This conference is set up to have Ohio State win the whole thing as often as possible, going as far down as the officiating. Yesterday's game reminds me of the 2014 OSU vs Penn State game. That game ended in a 2OT victory for OSU too and featured inexplicably horrible calls going the way of OSU. Penn State complained and it was so bad even the head ref had a press conference but ultimately nothing happened and the officiating is as bad now as it was then.

As I've said before I'm done with college football until either the refereeing improves substantially or we leave the B1G(which, I'm not delusional, there's not even a .00000000001% chance of that). |

These refs missed a lot. Many of you are complaining about the defense but look at the replays specially at the line of scrimmage. MSU could've stayed in the game even vs Bama with these refs. What's up with B1G refs this season? They cost Wisconsin their game vs OSU and could've easily cost us this game. They just don't call the obvious holds. We should get jerseys that rip easily to shame them into calling it. |

You can't... most people know this, but they're just slow playing it and hoping some miracle happens between now and signing day that makes the impending oversigning excusable. Brian and most of the fan base will just shrug and say "playing time transfers" as if that's not exactly the same thing Alabama does(and what this fanbase criticized Alabama for doing every single year.) It wouldn't bug me as much as it does if these people would just admit that the faux outrage in the past didn't really have anything to do with the kids and everything to do with Michigan not doing it too. Kinda like what Brian asks SEC and ACC fans to do regarding satellite camps. |

2 years 14 weeks ago | I'm sorry, but the whole |
I'm sorry, but the whole "playing time transfer" thing is indefensible when Brian has criticized Crean's Indiana and Saban's Alabama for doing exactly the same thing. Saban isn't yanking scholarships. He's telling players "you need to transfer or medical because you're not playing here anymore" and Brian has criticized him for it. I can link an article where Brian saw a report that Alabama was taking a class of 27 and that meant 8 is players had to be jettisoned from the program if that was correct. How many will we have to jettison if we take 30 and why is Brian not complaining about it? |

2 years 14 weeks ago | That's always been the |
That's always been the case. Again, when we talk about the oversigning controversy we're talking about what the schools do between NSD and spring to get under the 85 scholly cap. If NSD comes and you're over 85(counting incoming) then you're commiting yourself to jettisoning some players on the program. Some people argue this dynamic gets some kids pushed out the door. |

Alabama, Indiana, Tenn, OSU, Arkansas under Petrino, and many other schools could have made exactly that same argument. I've said as much on some of those occasions. When I make your argument on threads about Indiana bball or OSU/Alabama football oversigning I get negged to hell... The truth is Brian has never cared where that attrition is coming from. Alabama fans believe they will take 27 kids in this recruiting class, which means they'll have to eject eight guys from the program. Unless it's actually eleven, ie, the different between Michigan signing the 16 or 17 they expect to this year and a near-NCAA maximum class. At least Bama fans are no longer able to deny what's happening with sleight of hand, and have to admit they don't care:" I could go on and on and point at dozens of posts like this. 2 years 14 weeks ago | What do you think the meaning |
What do you think the meaning of oversigning is? No school stays above 85 after kids get to school. The controversy is about what schools do between signing day and spring practice to get under that 85 scholarship limit. |
2 years 14 weeks ago | I don't necesarily have a |
I don't necesarily have a problem with us doing it, although I certainly wish we didn't. What I do have a problem with is the faux outrage that's gone on over the past few years within some elements of the fanbase. (I could point at examples but just search for "oversigning" in the site search. Those same people who were angry about the "spring creaning" in indiana, or St Saban Memorial Hospital, ect ect ect are now doing the math trying to figure out who we should encourage to transfer. It's just embarassing. |
2 years 14 weeks ago | Even if we stay at 28, it's |
Even if we stay at 28, it's going to be VERY DIFFICULT to not be at over 85 the day after signing day. What this website and this fanbase ALWAYS criticized other teams for was what they did between signing day and spring practice to get under the 85 player cap. Every transfer and every medical scholly was seen as a coach pushing kids out the door. We'll see how that narrative plays out once we start getting our own surprise transfers and medical scholarships. |
2 years 14 weeks ago | Yup... I'll be waiting for |
Yup... I'll be waiting for Brian's faux outrage piece once signing day comes and we're over the 85 scholarship limit. (I know it won't come) This is precisely why I'm always slow to judge other schools when they do shady stuff. Too much egg on the face when your own team does it. |

Harbaugh coaching Michigan in 2011 probably gets to the national championship. The two games we lost that year were very winnable. |

2 years 31 weeks ago | So many players on that |
So many players on that recruiting class got paid... chances are eventually one of them (or someone involved with the bagmen) is going to get in trouble with the law. The problem with the NCAA is that it has no ability to gather evidence unless it is surrendered to them voluntarily. Law enforcement has to make the case for them. |

2 years 48 weeks ago | The truth is... and this |
The truth is... and this might be a tough pill to swallow for a lot of people... that we really can't compete with those programs anymore. At least not on a yearly basis. Hard to achieve recruiting parity when your home state has less than half the talent of Florida, Ohio, Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, ect. There's going to be years when things line up and we're able to be competitive vs those schools, but expecting to go .500 vs them (recruiting and on the field) is honestly unreasonable. :( |

For being such a math-centric sport, I don't understand how MLB owners/managers prioritize their payroll. It seems like they always pay players based on what they've done instead of what they'll potentially do. Every time one of those huge contracts comes around, everyone knows the player's not worth it.... except for the GMs. |

2 years 49 weeks ago | Yeah, pick the one or two |
Yeah, pick the one or two sports that are not supported by universities and focus your argument on those exceptions. 80% of American medal winners in the London olympics were NCAA athletes. A big portion of the money that went into train those athletes came from the universities they attended. If you take that away the government isn't going to step in to fill the gap and a lot of those athletes won't be able to afford coaching+going to college+feeding themselves+tutoring because they won't have any scholarships or special concessions at school because of their status as student athletes. I mean... if you don't care about USA's performance in the olympics that fine, it's a fair viewpoint to have; but to pretend that eliminating olympic sports from a lot of athletic departments won't heavily impact the athletes that will be left without a scholarship? Jeez... BTW, I wouldn't brag about figure skating if I were you, that's not a sport USA dominates. The Russians are much better, both historically and currently. Maybe colleges not supporting it has something to do with it. |
2 years 50 weeks ago | Well, it's fairly simple. |
Well, it's fairly simple. Take away the millions that the universities invest in these athletes, don't replace it with anything, see how it goes. I mean... where do you expect that lost money to come from? Congress? You can't compare our model to China's or Russia's because they fund their athletes directly from a very early age. Here that will never happen. |
2 years 50 weeks ago | Because it wouldn't be |
Because it wouldn't be basketball and football that would get cut. The first sports to go would be the men's olympic sports because they don't bring in money, and then the women's olympic sports because if you don't have the men's teams then you don't need the women's teams to balance it out. |
2 years 50 weeks ago | Academically, comparing |
Academically, comparing Rutgers and Maryland with Kansas and Mizzou is like comparing U of M with Western or State. They'd both be at the bottom of the conference with Nebraska by a comfortable margin. Also, I'm pretty sure Maryland is closer to Michigan than Nebraska and Kansas, but don't quote me on that one. |
