Call me a cynic, but it's easy to make this move when the football team's at the top of the mountain and their recruiting machine is bringing in top recruits on an annual basis. Also, was this Nick's doing or the University's? UA couldn't take the PR hit that would've accompanied keeping these guys on, especially if they only kept the guys most likely to contribute on the playing field. They don't want to actually confirm to the world that they have a win-at-all-costs mentality.

I suppose he has a reason to be salty. He built/is Duke basketball. Maryland, by leaving th ACC, has really opened up the possibility of UVA, GT, and UNC leaving as well. That would kill the academic cache of the conference.

Duke's fortune is tied to UNC. They will fade (even the basketball) into irrelevance if they're separated.

Not sure why you would take solace in this. Coach Wilcher is a Michigan Man and he's doing a great job with the CT program. He deserves a lot of credit for churning out more and more players that are garnering national attention. It will only benefit Michigan if these guys start to meet or exceed expectations.

It doesn't seem possible because it needs to stew for several years. Rants usually have short-term horizons because people wind up getting over it if they don't rant immediately.

I think we will feast on some home cooking and win by double digits. We'll see how good the Ohio defense is when they start getting called for blocking instead of getting charging calls. Also, if Craft gets called for some early fouls for his aggressive hand checking,this game won't ever be in doubt.

I believe Nike gets Tiger's forged muscleback irons from Miura. Endo forging is probably considered the best and I wouldn't be surprised if Nike gets Rory's irons from them.

This is why the notion that "Nike clubs suck" doesn't hold water here. Most of the top blade irons are coming from these Japanes foundries. There's only so much technology that can go into exactly where to distribute a limited amount of mass on the back of an iron. The most important factors are shaft and grind. I'm sure he will keep the same shafts and sole grinds.

Norfleet sounds like a wonderful young man. It sounds like he's got a plan and will do anything he can to execute it. He will be a productive member of society and make us proud to call him a fellow alumn. That's more than you can say about the bevy of "smart" students you get every year that get lost and flame out.

Craft had the support of a much better supporting cast. Ohio had and still has a great defensive team. I'd say Craft's job of defending was made a lot easier knowing he had good help behind him.

You're obviously so vested in ND Athletics that you'll eat up the company spin and ignore some troubling aspects of this case. Two things that stood out to me: 1) Four young college students are hanging out and Lizzy was the only one consuming alcohol. 2) An attractive young coed is sexually aggressive and giving a testosterone-filled young man a lap dance and he just decides he doesn't want any of it.

I've read that these are statements the player in question made to the police. I don't know about you, but they don't pass the smell test to me.

For me it was a quint, bacon, egg, provolone, onion roll, lettuce, onion, tomato, dijon, ketchup. Also had to have the fried veggies with cocktail sauce and a root beer. I must have a strong stomach because I never had digestive issues eating this once a week.

I don't agree that the ACC would rather have Louisville than Maryland. This was just a move made out of desperation/necessity.

Louisville offers nothing outside of football and basketball. Maryland is a national power in several non-revenue sports.

I think Louisville's success in football and basketball are tenuous at best. They lucked out with both Petrino and Strong. Strong is gone when the next high-profile job opens up. Then, most likely another long stretch of mediocrity. Basketball will probably always be second fiddle to UK. Fortunately, it looks like Petino stays for a while and they'll have continued success, but then?

Maryland has a much greater educated, monied population base. Read: larger, more influential fan base.

I'm assuming you're referring to football players. I have no idea if all scholarship athletes receive the same benefits.

I can't believe you'd begrudge the athletes anything they receive. If anything, football players are woefully under-compensated. Just think of their benefits as compensation for a job they're performing for the university. A job that has skill requirements that few in the student body possess.

As a former student I appreciated all the football players did for the school. They gave the school a great team for which to cheer.

They also subsidized part of our own education costs. Having the Athletic Department being financially independent and profitable allowed the University to not pass some of the costs to the students.

As for having to stress out about interviews, applications, and resume, that's all on you. If you're smart and motivated, opportunity will be there.
