If there is a banner, trophy or title to somehow be won by Michigan in pretty much anything from football to solar car racing to chess than I'm into it. That said, in the peckin order, I'd put the regular season title above the tourney title.
All that said, I'd certainly like to replace that MBB tourney title banner that was taken down due to the NCAA infractions.

Yeah but the University only uses 4.5% of interest each year ($450,000 a year) in actual disbursements on the coaches pay. They never actually cut into the principal. That endowment is just a piece of Hoke's pay a year.

What about that rumor that Red's contract and Mike Babcock's contract both end in two years. Perhaps that's what everyone's waiting for.
If that's not the case, who DO you take In if Red walks away at the end of the year?
|2 weeks 4 days ago||That happened||
That happened once to us. If you can do Week 11 you should call in ASAP and say you'd be willing to take that. I've heard that most years, but not all, there are spots open in Week 11 for another couple of weeks.

|2 weeks 4 days ago||Over yet?||
We get this?
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Fans||
At least two big window fans (one for each room). From there I'd check the weather report the week before to see whether to bring more. It all depends.
Since you have little guys... One other warning, you will do a crapload of walking. Camp is BIG and on a hill. If you have kids that are still in strollers bring a stroller that can handle "off-road" conditions. Maybe one of those big wheel jogging strollers, probably something with inflatable tires rather than hard plastic. The trails around the camp are not paved.
One other thing that we bring that u may want, waterproof walky talkies. You won't want to take your phones near water activities and the phone reception is somewhere between bad and none. My kids are both elementary school aged and we give them one each and my wife and I have. Helps coordinate when everyone is everywhere.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||I'll see you||
I'll see you on your way out and my way in. I'm a Week 7 camper.
1) At least two big window fans. No A.C. obviously and you'll be sucking wind if you're there on a week that gets hot without a couple of fans. if you're bringing kids, get them those clip on fans to put on their bunk beds.
2) A cooler. Good solid porch crew drinking scene once the kids go to bed and
3) stuff to put in said cooler. Lots of stuff.
Also, if you have REALLY little ones that still drink milk before bed, you may want to invest in one of those tiny dorm fridges. One of mine was 18 months when we started and still drinking a ton of milk. Dealing with remembering to bring it back from the mess hall every day and keeping it cold was a pain.

|2 weeks 5 days ago||THIS^^^^^^^||
Obvious answer. Offensive linemen are not doing a lot of 40 yard dashes in game situations so its not exactly a skill taught heavily at the college level. High school camps and the NFL combine might be the only times anyone ever bothers to time a lineman in the 40 yd dash.
Like watching pachyderms run an Olympic sprint event.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||No waiting||
There is no waiting list any more. To get tickets you have to pay the $500 PSD and they'll offer you tickets. Then you obviously have to pay for the tickets.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||As to your point||
As to your point, I'd say I'll believe it when the Regents approve it.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Influence or||
Influence is unlikely. What they likely get is access. When old J. Ira wants to bring his golfing buddies by the athletic department to meet the coach and see his name on his door, Brandon will have a small legion of employees, interns, student greeters and maybe the band ready to receive them.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||This is an endowed chair basically||
Endowiong a staff position is common all over the University, particularly in academics. Most of the academic units at most major campuses have not only some kind of endowed chair for their Dean but also for high level professors too.
That $10 million will sit in an account and the 4.5% interest the University will allow out annually will go towards paying a large part of Hoke's salary. The concept both here an on academic campus is to take the staff member's salary off the balance sheet and free up that money for other things (or in many cases on academic side with all of its funding cuts, provide that money to retain a professor we would otherwise lose to another University that is offering more).
I guess my only knock is that the athletic department simply doesn't need the money. That would do much more good elsewhere. Football is so deeply in the black off of PSD's all this does is take them another few hundred thousand into overage.
MORE MONEY FOR SKYWRITING!!!!

|3 weeks 3 days ago||Need more than one receiver||
You have to have more than one receiver. The rest of the receiving corp was the walking wounded (Burleson, Broyles) or practice squad guys. Teams were rolling two and three d-backs at Megatron. They HAVE to get at least one other receiver other teams will have to key on and very likely two. I just wonder how much money they'll throw at it and who is available considering Sammy Watkins likely won't be available in the draft.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Address in Draft or FA||
I wonder which ones they address in the draft versus free agency. Seems like the only guy available at receiver who is really worth the 10 pick is Sammy Watkins and most mock drafts show him long gone by the time the Lions pick. I wonder if they hit the FA market for someone like Hicks from the Giants or even Anquan Boldin from the 49ers for that compliment and then use that first pick on the best corner or safety available.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I mean||

|3 weeks 5 days ago||I guess||
I guess it's sort of possibly ok that Sparty didn't cut him loose until he was at least charged. you could make the argument about sticking up for your guys until all the facts come out. That said, now that charges have been filed they need to cut the cord and every day they don't rubs off worse on them.
Further, why the hell hasn't Cass Tech expelled him.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||They need to||
They to win a little first, maybe float a banner and get attendance up but if they start succeeding on the field and people start showing up, I agree with you. I think we're five years of at least more wins than losses from that happening though.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||Guess it depends||
I guess it depends on how you qualify what makes a sport rank #4 -
If its long term winning or titles: probably softball.
If its attendance then probably softball or maybe soccer.
Is there anywhere online that shows what attendance for non-rev sports is?

After the last few days and what the parents are saying about the crowd he hangs out with and his seeming disinterest in listening to his parents I'm wondering if we dodged a bullet with losing this kid.
EDIT: Just noticed....5000th point post.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||I don't think thats true||
First off, Dan Gilbert buying up a huge number of buildings and moving his literally thousands of employees down from the suburbs and into downtown has made a world of difference. With their presences other small businesses that cater to the employees have sprung up and other employers have made the jump downtown as they see that area is viable and vibrant again. I've been going to court down there for over a decade and I'd walk the street at lunchtime and see nobody. Now, its packed. Even the traffic on the Lodge had quadrupled in the last few years. So the point is the downtown comeback hasn't really been on the back of the sports teams.
That said, having the three big stadiums down there eats up a LOT of formerly blighted space. Again, on a day-to-day basis it isn't doing that much for the economy. Outside attracting restaurants and bars into that area, bringing money for parking pls property taxes and game day revenue the biggest value is in good attractive use of large areas of formerly blighted land that then makes the City look better.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Hopefully||
Hopefully you're not expecting M based surprises because it sure sounds like that isn't happening.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Considering||
Considering he didn't announce yet I'm guessing we're having a little Kid versus Parents feud right now with the old:
KID/Malik: Mom, Dad I know what I'm doing! I know how to handle fireworks.
MOM & DAD: Son, you don't know what you're doing, you could blow a finger off.
KID: Awww C'Mon....when are you going to trust me, the other guys all get to shoot off fireworks.
MOM & DAD: You mean Four Fingered Rickey and Boom Boom. I don't think so.
Obviously we're not getting this kid. At this point I'm just interested in the human drama of parents versus kid. I mean, they've made their point 100% clear but what do you do if your kid picks up that Sparty hat and chucks it on his head when he announces. How do you deal with that going forward when your kid basically slaps his parents in the face.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Agreed||
Agreed on some level in that I think whatever they do should be attached to Cobo if not an outright expansion of Cobo but:
1) Could put a hotel on it that attached to Cobo (I've always wondered why they don't just buy the Pochatrain Hotel across Washington St. and just build Cobo over Washington until the two connect.
2) I've heard the idea of an aquarium with convention/wedding/meeting space kind of like the Atlanta aquarium.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||NICE!||
We all heard mom wasn't happy because of something that happened during the visit but:
"McDowell's mother became turned off by the Spartans after she overheard her son have a conversation with current players about not going to class, according to a source close to the situation."
That's pretty bad. You'd think maybe someone would have at least TOLD the players to IXNEY ON THE NO CLASSESNE and that perhaps advertising their academic failure isn't the best selling point.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Not only||
Not only is it kind of a dump, apparently its in need of several million dollars of renovation just to get it up to code (most notably the supersteep incredibly scary stairs to the doors). Apparently the City hasn't been enforcing because its been known for about five years now that the Illitches we're angling for a new arena. Why put in the repairs on building they'll like blow up. It sits right on the river. Who ever heard of a giant windowless building sitting right up against a body of water? Makes no sense. There's a million better things that could be done with that location.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Its a land swap.||
Illitches had some other properties that they're swapping for the City owned pieces of real estate that essentially complete the literal puzzle of land ownership where the new arena is going. Illitches had already privately acquired much of the land in that area parcel by parcel but there were some big City owned pieces in there that were needed to create one big continuous parcel to build the arena.
Here's a map of what's happening. Pretty useful to understand what the deal today was about.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I appreciate||
I appreciate your point.. That said, I'm constantly in that area of Detroit and the area where this is going in has been a literally empty burned out roughly one mile square with NOTHING. If there are four or five occupied buildings in that area its more than I would assume from driving through it consistently. Further the property in its current distressed condition essentially creates a barrier between downtown and midtown to the north and the MotorCity Casino and some of the surrounding area to its west. The development of the arena and the planned development around the arena will bridge all that. I won't generalize stadium deals but this one is VERY VERY good for the City and area.

|5 weeks 2 hours ago||Funny you should say||
Funny you should say. While I was watching the game last night, it felt a lot like watching State's defense. Particularly the way both defenses move to the ball, keep everything in front of them and dare you to beat them deep. I think the big difference in my mind is that much of what State does revolves around completely shutting down the run. On the other hand, the Seahawks pass defense is so great, I think it forces the other offense to run or rely on short passes. Both rely on their speed but I think the big difference is the type of fear factor in what they take away.

|5 weeks 3 days ago||I was actually||
I was actually talking to an admissions officer two weeks ago about this exact subject. Different Universities deal with this differently. Some Universities average all of your ACT scores together. Some Universities create what they call a Super-Score where they take your best score from each section even if its different sections from different sittings and make up one Super Score. Michigan will take your best score from one sitting. So, using the OP's scenario. If he takes it again and scores a 31, his 29 on the prior test is ignored and the 31 stands. If he scores worse in his second sitting, the 29 stands.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||Reply||
Sorry, went to sleep early last night.
1) Yeah I know, but its true.
2)The old Pre-Prop 2 formula allocated points for that. In the current system I haven't gotten a clean answer from the admissions people about exactly what having alums in the family will do for you. However, if I could summarize the collective responses I've received to that question in the last few years I would say that if the child of an alum and the child of a non-alum have identical qualifications (which does happen often when you consider how many applicants there are), absent other factors the alum's kid would get the nod.
3) As far as becoming an ASR, it depends where you live. Based on your avatar I'm guessing you're somewhere in or around NYC. There are two ways to do this, each of the local clubs (Westchester, Connecticut, Northern NJ and NYC) have a board member in charge of coordinating their ASR efforts so I would contact that person. You can usually find that info by clicking through to the club's website here http://alumni.umich.edu/connect/club-finder?page=3 . Same is true if you live anywhere else outside of Michigan. If you live in Michigan, you should contact the Alumni Association's coordinator (her name is Phyllis) and ask about the Adopt-A-School program where you will be assigned a high school (or multiple schools) where you will be in charge of communications with that school's students.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||On a more serious note.||
I'm an Alumni Student Recruiter (a project between UofM admissions and the Alumni Association) and have been for the better part of a decade now. Depending on what state the ASR lives in we're either assigned to a specific school or county full of schools. On top of that we're called on to serve "college days" along side the actual admissions officers at schools in our regions and also some of us are called on to attend events in August for kids about to apply and then in the spring for students who are admitted.
We're kept pretty up to speed on acceptance standards. I would say you're definitely in the ballpark but it would benefit you to get that ACT up. Your GPA is clearly where it needs to be. A 29 ACT puts you somewhere below the bottom 25th percentile of accepted students. That said, the rest is pretty good. I think you get in, likely in the January or February cuts and not the December cut unless you get that ACT up. Michigan does NOT average your ACT scores if you take multiple times. Nor does it pick the best section scores from multiple tests and put them together. They take the best score from one sitting. Thus you crank it the next time, your 29 doesn't exist.
As far as scholarships, multiple answers. If you get that ACT up into the 32, 33 range you may get yourself into the running for some of the scholarship awards that are given automatically upon acceptance. Other than that, you should apply for a scholarship with the local alumni club. Further, Michigan applicants tend to do pretty well for national private scholarships so apply for everything you can.
As to UNC, unlike Michigan which currently has a 60/40 instate to out-of-state ratio, UNC is like 95/5 so it's ultra competitive to get in as an out-of-stater and will cost you as much going to a private school anyway where the state you come from doesn't matter.
Keep up the fight, I'm assuming you're a junior and have more chances to take the ACT. If so, try to take it if they offer it over the summer or close to the start of school so you're not trying to prepare for that and meaningful in-school tests. Obviously take a Kaplan class if you )haven't and even if you did, do it again. The trends are almost always positive for improvement the second time as long as you focus on taking it and don't have too much else going on.
Finally, you might want to contact the local or closest alumni club to find out who their ASR coordinator is and make contact with him/her. Never hurts to have someone like that in your corner.

|5 weeks 4 days ago||Hold up...||
Hold up a minute......two word reminder for you.....Brian Banks.
Look I have a daughter so I'm naturally very bothered by this but I'm also a lawyer and the concept of innocent until proven guilty is very meaningful to me. It's hard to not stand in judgment but only two people know what happened and for whatever reason the aggrieved one chose to not pursue this, he never had his day in a real court and none of us get to know what the University investigation found that made them believe that this was more likely than not true.
This is a shit sandwich but sitting around smelling it isn't going to make it taste better.

Example 1) jalen agreed to throw out the first pitch for the UofM night at Comerica Park this past fall. At the last second he bails. However, Jalen's reputation sort of preceded him so we had Jimmy King on standby and he made it to do it. Classy move Jalen.
Example 2) making a big fuss about the acceptance of the Fab Five during last year's final four run. Just couldn't let the spotlight be on the success of last year's team. He had to drag the spotlight back to him.
Example 3) the night before the big game, who goes grabbing for the spotlight....

|6 weeks 3 days ago||thats actually 100% false||
Under Brandon the Athletic Dept took their development staff from 6 to over 25 and counting and, instead of just hitting up an Al Glick when they need a building, they are now going after the nickels and dimes and everything else. Further, there are rules on campus about only being able to speak to your donors. IF you're an Enginieering grad/donor, no one else is allowed to make contact with you without Engineering's permission. Athletics threw those rules out and has deemed pretty much everyone as theirs. There are many people on campus who have intimated that Ross' entire $200 million gift was supposed to be for the B-School but Brandon snagged half of it at the last second. There have also been several other large donors around campus who traditionally give to academic units who are now being approached by Athletics.
I guess big picture, Athletics is ROLLING in money. The Football PSD's put them permanently in the black and adding the hoops and hockey ones just grew the pot. Brandon targeting academic campus donors is straight bullshit. Somehow he's forgotten that the athletic department though financially separate from the University, is certainly not the competition and supposed to be its partner.

|6 weeks 3 days ago||WOW!!!||
I'm pretty shocked. Dr. Schlissel is an ESTEEMED academic with both Ph.D. and M.D. and has a serious science background. Will be very useful in attracting faculty.
1) Never been a President/Chancellor. Provost is a #2 and its not uncommon to raise a Provost to a President but for Michigan, I'm surprised they wouldn't hire someone with sitting President experience or at least interim president experience.
2) NO ATHLETIC EXPERIENCE OR RELATIONSHIP ON AN NCAA FACULTY BOARD. If I'm David Brandon I'm watching my back CLOSELY.
3) Not that it really matters that much, no Michigan ties.
For our East Coast crew...he's a Brooklyn native
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Get real guys||
Get real you two. It has to be someone with serious academic credentials or the faculty would skewer him/her. It will be someone who was at least a Dean if not Provost or Chancellor from another (or maybe our own) University. This isn't like naming Bill Martin or Dave Brandon the Athletic Director. The President has to keep the Deans and faculty in line and you don't do that unless you're proverbial academic dick is as big as theirs.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||I'm still||
I'm still putting my money behind either Phyllis Wise of Illinois or Lou Anna Simon at MSU.
I also stand behind the fact that search wouldn't have been as secretive as it was if it was going to be an internal candidate like Dean Munson from Engineering or Martha Pollack, the current Provost. If it is one of them or another internal candidate, the press has a right to question because that means we likely struck out with bigger name candidates and I'd like to know why.

+1 for you sir!
That's two big wins this week. Two more to go.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Meant Phyllis Wise||
Weird autocorrect. Meant Phyllis Wise of Illinois.
I heard early on Phyllis Wise was a candidate.
I personally think Munson would only be in if they really struck out on a lot of other candidates. If they were eyeballing Munson either from the get-go or at some point after some others said no, I think they would have been more inclusive of students and staff on the search committee. The fact that it was so secretive and such a closed group leads me to believe that their intent from the start was another sitting President who didn't want it known they were a candidate. Dean Munson is a great guy, very impressive guy and in my and many others opinion would be a great President. Again, I feel like it doesn't make sense because of how secretive the search was.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||No doubt||
You'd have to be a serious higher ed nerd/professor/administrator to not have to immediately scramble to google to figure out details beyond whatever post the person currently holds.
I hope to be said nerd and scramble to google immediately.
Anyone dare to throw down some serious names (Beyond cartoon characters and Brandon)? I'm putting my money on one of three:
a) My hopeful: Earl Lewis, President of Mellon Foundation, prior Provost at Emory
b) My most likely: Phyllis Chin from Illinois
c) My darkhorse: Lou Anna Simon from State
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Still there||
Sullivan is still at UVA and I liked her very much too and she was the first name that came to my mind last year. Its possible but there are two prevailing theories on why it won't be (a) she only left about three years ago, will she really want to make another move that quickly, particularly to a school of equal academic standing (b) she was supposedly being groomed to take over for Mary Sue and bailed on us and there are still a lot of high ups who were pissed off about that and wouldn't take her back.

Interesting point, the Board of Regents had their meeting earlier this month in New York City. Very well could have been to have the final deliberation in private and out of the spotlight in Ann Arbor.......or was it to meet with a candidate in NYC?
Come on....I'm trying to provoke someone into saying Bollinger!
|6 weeks 3 days ago||I'm with you||
I'm with you Bando. Feels like a few weeks ago with the whole Borges/Who Will Replace?/Nussmeier thing except this won't get a fraction of the coverage and likely won't get the literal minute by minute leaks that led to the disclosure mere hours after the position opened.
Probably have to wait until the morning although for the Board of Regents to be meeting, its done, this is just to formalize so it could leak. Regents decide everything before the meetings actually happen so whomever it is, its done.

As a matter of fact, many University's do not consider the terms "alum" and "graduate" synonymous. I am pretty sure Michigan considers an alum anyone who has completed a semester of classes. So Iggy and Madonna are alums.

|8 weeks 1 day ago||Hold up||
First off, Drew Sharp is a raging ass. Lets make no bones about that. I despise that his writing style is basically to provoke, antagonize, and generally piss off. That said, it seems to work for him much the way it does for Valenti on 97.1. Frankly, I'll give Sharp slightly more credit than Valenti as Sharp never has much positive today about any sports team in Michigan UNLESS its used in some kind of comparison to put someone else down, Again, I despise the messenger. That said, to my original point of the post and, in secondary point to Sharps article beyond just getting a rise out of the M fanbase, does anyone see it at least distracting that Brandon seems to need to be out front on everything? This is a news conference on the Offensive Coordinator. This should have been Hoke and Nussmeier's show with Brandon hanging out on a wall in the back. Again, ad nauseum, hate the messenger but Its the point I'm asking about. This is a Michigan sports board and this is certainly on topic and while it may not be all sunny, I certainly thing it bears discussion rather than deletion.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||Yeah but truth be told||
Even if they traded back about ten picks and picked up a third rounder it would still benefit them. Might be a best offer kind of deal. If Watkins isn't there, they are pretty much reaching if they pick anyone at receiver or d-back
|8 weeks 2 days ago||I understand||
I understand how many people whose remaining contact with the University (whether they be alum or just a fan) love and respect and borderline worship Dave Brandon. The point of the notation above is that while he may be worshipped in those athletic circles he has a LOT of detractors elsewhere in the University. I think its that distinction exactly that has drawn Brandon the enemies. His actions leave many to believe that he has forgotten that our Wolverines are actually attached to the University of Michigan and that the rest of the University is not to be treated as the enemy or some kind of corporate rival.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||I think she's||
I think she's still out there. I have heard three knocks against her candidacy.
1) Some say she was being groomed for the M job and bailed on us for UVA and there are still people who are butt-sore at Michigan.
2) Not sure if you heard but shortly after she was named President at UVA she had to struggle through a very public political battle with some of their version of the Board of Regents. Essentially some wanted to push her out because they didn't think she was good enough. She survived and now has tremendous power having survived the coup attempt. She may not want to leave that.
3) She's only been at UVA a few years (three maybe), she may not want to leave that post so early. It's also sort of a lateral move. We're about the same academically.
I would be she's still under consideration IF she wanted it but I suspect there are others they would rather.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||Sammy Watkins||
Sammy Watkins and if he doesn't drop to them there aren't really any other receivers or d-backs who deserve a Top 10 pick so trade back to someone who has multiple first rounds or a first and second and pick up your best available receiver and corner.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||He played at High A ball (Lakeland)||
He played at High A ball (Lakeland). Guess it depends where he ends up this year. All that said, Tigers just acquired a 2nd baseman of the foreseeable future in Ian Kinsler as part of the deal that sent Prince Fielder to Texas. The report also says this guy isn't good enough to play short (not that the Tigers need that either since they have that Jose Iglesias guy). Maybe they season him slow in Erie and Toledo and break him in in Detroit in two years as the utility infielder if he hits the same at AA and AAA as he did in single A last year.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||WhoTF||
Who is Devon Travis? Obviously know Castellanos and Rondon since they should both be in Detroit much or all of this year. Who is that #2 guy though? Never heard that name.

In fact, someone who is a long time camper and on the Camp's leadership group told me its actually the opposite. They fill every spot during their 11 week session and when they need to build something they fundraise and get donors to build it. Pretty darn sure Michigania more than covers its expenses and actually puts money into the AAUM budget.
|8 weeks 5 days ago||delete||
|8 weeks 5 days ago||The one Up North||
The Michigania Up North (on Walloon Lake) is the original, the only one exclusively for M grads that runs all summer and has some fall and winter weekends too. They now also have availabilty somewhere out in California (I believe its Cal-Berkeley's camp and they let Michigan grads attend) and for a couple of weeks at the end of the summer in upstate New York at at a youth summer camp called Point-of-Pines that rents itself out to the alumni association after the kids have gone home for the summer. Never heard of one in Europe.
|8 weeks 5 days ago||I've seen||
I've seen people go with newborns. They do have daycare even for kids of that age. Personally I think the kids would get the most out of it at three but like I said, seen all ages.
|8 weeks 5 days ago||Maybe I'm naive||
Maybe I'm being naive regarding the win at all costs mentality but it still blows me away that any school would consider hiring Petrino after the crap he's pulled. I guess it's one thing for a WKU to hire him knowing full well they would never get a shot at a name like Petrino absent all the recent baggage. just surprised Louisville would stoop to that considering they have been a pretty damn good program and with their returning talent could probably attract a Narduzzi or other pretty decent name to come in.

|8 weeks 5 days ago||One other point||
I think spouses can be alumni association members even if they didn't actually go to Michigan. Maybe the AA is requiring that both spouses pay for memberships?
|8 weeks 5 days ago||I think you're reading that wrong||
I think you're reading that wrong. I'm a current camper and five year vet. I believe that every bunk needs an alum. No way they could fill camp if both spouses in every group had to be alums. I think this is to combat some large extended family groups that were signing up with only one or two alums in the group. This past year I met a group of about 25 to 30 related campers who were all getting in off the grandmother who was either the only alum or possibly one of two (think a son-in-law may also be an alum. That group took up three whole cabins.

To the year 2013.......
Good - F'ing - BYE!!!!! Can't really remember a year I wanted to be over worse than this one, many reasons being related to Michigan sports. I mean there was just no damn sanctuary unless you were a big Men's Gymnastics fan. I mean really...
Football ........don't think that needs elaboration.
Hockey....... blew the 22 year NCAA tourney streak
Basketball.....blew the Big Ten title, great run in the tourney but came up short, missed on pretty much all of the 2014 recruits, get McGary back and then lose him to injury and not exactly off to a great start for this season.
May 2014 be BANGIN' for the Michigan faithful. Can't get much worse than this year (wood knocked on incesantly).
|9 weeks 6 days ago||James Earl agrees.....||
2014 WILL BE BETTER FOR THE MAIZE AND BLUE!
|10 weeks 1 day ago||Agree||
Absent a sub .500 season Coach Hoke gets a fifth year. We'd have a difficult time attracting a quality coach after breaking off two coaches in a row after four years or left regardless of the circumstances.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||Anything is possible||
I could see 2014 falling either way. There is talent galore on the roster but the team was young all over this past year. That said, we'll still be very young all over the offense next year. With the exception of Gardner and a junior Funchess, we're looking at redshirt sophomores or younger pretty much everywhere else on the offense plus not much experienced talent at receiver and a running game that barely existed this year and three tough road games against our three biggest rivals. I must also admit, I've been really unimpressed with the lack of passion and fire. I'm not sure if that falls with the captains or the coaching staff but I read the article in the Freep today with multiple players saying they were basically not very motivated and Coach Hoke not really saying much to the team after the game. On some level I wonder if perhaps these guys need someone to light them up for failing the way Bo would have. The team obviously was revved up for Ohio but look at games like Nebraska, UConn, Iowa and last night and did it not seem like there was no fire, even coming out to the tunnel. So while the OP was clearly just letting off the frustration we all are feeling right now, when you pull back from it, does anyone really feel great going into next season, considering the three rivalry games are away and with the roster and coaching staff keeping the status quo. On the one hand, Sparty was 6-6 last year and look what they did this year. On the other hand, they returned a team loaded with seniors and no one will ever fault that team or staff for playing without fire.
So to answer the OP's question, I believe it's possible but something has to change from this year and considering everything is pretty much status quo, I don't know what element of change is going to be injected into the equation to get the better. Maybe another year of age will help but something has to change if there are going to be different results.
EDIT: Link to the article I referenced. http://www.freep.com/article/20131229/SPORTS06/312290124/K-State-31-U-M-... The quote by James Ross really bugs me and the comments from Frank Clark and the authors comments about Hoke's post-game speech don't help either.
