Watching Vince grinding out one to two yards per carry was used as a metaphor for the grueling emotional experience of watching this game as a fan. Not that watching compares to the emotion on the field. I have enormous respect for all of the guys who didn't give up, especially Smith. I'm sure Ace does as well.

Exciting to see more video of Devin getting WR reps (1:40), can't wait to see him on the field this season.

I'm a grad student at Minnesota now, after going to Ann Arbor for undergrad. One of the nice things about the Twin Cities that I've found during the couple of years I've lived here is the great beer culutre and abundance/availability of local microbrews at most of the bars. Now, this opinion may be confounded by the fact that I tend to go to bars catering to an older crowd than I did in MI, or by a national rise in microbrew popularity during my time here, but I honestly find myself trying all kinds of new beer more often, because there is such a wide variety available on tap.

For anyone headed this way for the game, Stub and Herb's is a bar right next to the stadium with a great selection of taps that change weekly. However, this place WILL BE PACKED and hard to breathe in around gametime. For a lower-key atmosphere a bit farther from the stadium, I recommend west-bank (across the river from the stadium) area bars such as Republic, Acadia, and Town Hall Brewery. All great choices with good selection. There is also a Michigan alumni group who meet for drinks in downtown Minneapolis during games. I think they used to meet at 508 bar but moved one door down (west) last year.

I've lived in Minneapolis for two years now as a grad student at "the other U of M." I live in south Minneapolis, which isn't super nice but not bad either, and rather cheap. I like that I can ride the light rail from my house to downtown, the airport, and the mall of America. Uptown is nice for going out to bars and restaurants, but full of hipsters as well. Dinkytown has lots of undergrads (read: Greek system) but also good food and decent bars, close to campus. Northeas is fairly near downtown, has good bars, and a nice art discrict too. North Minneapolis and midtown tend to have poorer neighborhoods, but midtown has some of the best ethnic food, especially Latin American. Eden prairie is kind of a rich white snooty suburb in my experience, but certainly nice enough... Hope this helps.

Actually Minnesota does have an NHL team (the Wild), they're just, well, terrible. Your point is totally valid though, they deserve a much better team than they have, given the popularity of the sport at the college level in the MN area.

Haha yes very true. To be fair though, nearby Howell High School has a very similar field.

They even have similar Packers-style uniforms.

However they're known as the Highlanders and play in the KLAA conference, while Harrison plays in OAA.

If you look close, there's a sign that reads "Go Hawks" on the fence at 5:20.

Let's hope that Aaron Burbridge likes the idea of catching passes from Shane and decides to go blue as well.

I'm also going to have to second (4th?) this. Clearly, we left a lot of points out on the field last season because of our kicking game. This not only changed how our offense had to play, but may have influenced the outcome of some of the games we lost (not that any specific missed kicks come to my mind here).

Posters above have made note of Thompson (and perhaps also Funchess) being people who will "create matchup problems" which will force defense to cover them differently. I'm wondering to what extent this could open up opportunities for our runners (Denard) to make plays. I admit that I'm no expert in X's and O's, so I apologize if this is a dumb question.

Conforth was one of the best professors I've ever had. I took Survey of American Folklore with him. Just a damn fine human being and fun to be in a classroom with. Played delta blues slide guitar for us in class and showed us a wide range of pop culture videos. His lectures were interactive, funny and engaging. David Moosman was in my class and Bruce gave him a bunch of shit every week (this is when he started playing at center). Bruce was very likeable and he seems like a great person to have doing this kind of community outreach.

I'm a current PhD student doing research in neuroscience, so I decided to share my experience on the basis that it seems rather relevant. I spent a month studying for the GRE several hours per day. I didn't take a class, just purchased the Princeton Review book, which came with a CD. I went through the whole thing in about 2-3 weeks, leaving myself some time to take the two practice tests allotted by EDS. When reviewing vocabulary, I spent time identifying words I was slightly familiar with but couldn’t exactly define, and words I had no knowledge of, reviewing the latter group more thoroughly. I also focused on the “tricks,” or common types of math questions that people tend to screw up. For the writing, I spent very little time practicing, just reviewing the structure of this section briefly and doing a couple of practice essays. I used one practice test 2 weeks in advance and the other four days ahead of time, in both cases shutting myself in my room to simulate a real test environment. Hope this helps.

Also, the point about Evans having good perspective seems right on to me. In my opinion, a lot of young people (myself included) do not realize what a boon a Michigan education will be until they leave Ann Arbor. If he can impart some of his wisdom on a younger group of players, then on that point alone I'm glad to have this guy back. If he can also step up an make an impact on the field, even better.
