The Athletic Department is making millions and fielding some of the best Michigan teams in a long time, and Michigan is currently 5th in the Director's Cup standings. Uniforms and silly promotions aside, Brandon is doing a fantastic job as AD. In this results based business, Brandon is doing just about as well as one could possibly do.

Everyone is overanalyzing this. The OP's point is that we should play the tournament before crowning a champion because that is the current format of NCAA basketball. Would it be more reliable to pick the best team by using advanced metrics accumulated over a long regular season? Probably, but it wouldn't be nearly as much fun.

There are many more people paying their way through college in this country than playing college athletics. Most of these students do not have access to the fantastic resources that student athletes do and will graduate with tens of thousands of dollars of debt. Student athletes walk away debt free with degrees that they may not otherwise have been able to afford, and the only price they pay is playing a game they love, often on a national stage, for four years of their lives. Pretty good fucking deal if you ask me.

I'm not sure that an ND fan is the best judge of how loud a stadium can be. My buddies and I went to Notre Dame game last year, and the crowd was really tame.

That being said, I do believe the stadium was the loudest it has ever been on Saturday.

When we finally won, the student section was essentially a giant mosh pit. I was hugging random strangers and...I can't even describe how awesome it was.

deserved every minute of coverage he got. He was the most dominating athlete in any sport for 12 years. It could be argued that he was the most dominating athlete in any sport ever. Even after he "fell off the wagon" in 2008, he was still regularly finishing top 5 in majors.

I'm glad to see that Payton is visiting for the Notre Dame game. That whole weekend should be a huge recruiting tool for Hoke & Co. If seeing Michigan play Notre Dame under the lights in front of 113,000 people doesn't convince a recruit to come here, then nothing will.
