|6 days 22 hours ago||Overall, very Harbaugh||
Overall, very Harbaugh. Fun and exciting and weird and sometimes awkward.
I liked almost everything about it, unfortunately the part I disliked most was having a Sklar as the emcee. Do not find him very funny at all...mostly cringeworthy.
|1 week 5 days ago||Damn||
Damn, beat me to it.
I'd also add James Earl Jones, the Grocery Bagger that Harbaugh watched do her job perfectly for an hour, the captain of the Peruvian national Peruball team, Kevin Van Dam, and Big from Rob and Big.
That group seems to be about as random as we've seen with the announced guests.
|1 week 6 days ago||More roster management...||
More roster management. Heard he was pushed out.
|2 weeks 23 hours ago||Yes, agreed.||
Yes, agreed. I guess we disagree on the level of which that may have occurred. When people really want something, they often delude themselves no matter what someone tells them. I am not taking a stand yet but I also think the stance most here are taking is too early, as well.
None of the kids' high school coaches have come out with outrageous claims, which at least makes me question the half of the story we're getting from the recruit right now. That's my a big point - everyone assumes we have facts when we do not.
|2 weeks 23 hours ago||I don't get it, Brian||
I don't get it, Brian. According to Steve Lorenz someone picked up the damn phone on October 5 when he wanted to go to Temple.
Even if he wasn't explicitly told he might not have a spot, anyone that can't read into that plus no contact is intentionally being dense. I would hope to talk to the place I'm going to be spending 4-5 years at least once in 3 months prior to signing the dotted line.
|2 weeks 23 hours ago||Yes pick up the phone||
Yes, picking up the phone would save the FANBASE some heartache, but c'mon, this is getting pretty goddamn ridiculous.
We believe one side on Swenson yet the Matt Falcon thing played out pretty much like you're asking and everyone is all on Harbaugh's ass?
I'm not necessarily picking a side but I do think it's absurd most of you are even with only half the opinion and almost none of the facts.
|2 weeks 23 hours ago||Disapppinted in you, man||
I'm disappointed in you, man. You follow recruiting too closely to either make naive assumptions or leave other major factors out.
I don't believe that these recruits with which we have parted ways were not given any sort of pre- and/or post-commitment idea of where things stand. Whether that was academic plans/goals (Enis, SPS, another?), intentions to keep recruiting the position over them (Weaver), or requesting an evaluation from a previous coach's commit (Swenson), each commit has more going on than what is being portrayed on twitter. Which leads to my major issue with your argument:
Your thesis "Harbaugh is burning bridges or ruining relationships that will hurt future recruiting so he needs to change something" has not been proven.
Glossing over these facts isn't fair to the reader or Harbaugh since you are considered one of the more prominent posters on recruiting.
I think it's ignorant to limit choices to those options. Option 3 for me is don't change a damn thing. Next year Harbaugh:
I don't agree with the premise that bridges have been burned or relationships ruined. Additionally, recruits have short memories - Harbaugh is not approaching the levels of things that happen in the SEC West and they still do OK there.
Will it be negatively recruited against? Sure.
Will Harbaugh's general personality and behavior be negatively recruited against regardless? Of course.
Is it a chink in an otherwise excellent Harbaugh armor? Yes.
Is the chink in the armor worth it if offering and accepting a guy like Antwain Richardson pans out into a good to excellent Big Ten starter? I say yes.
To say that Harbaugh needs to act more like "everybody in America" is insane and uninformed when, in fact, he is. I'll leave that ridiculous statement with this article by SBNation national/FSU writer Bud Elliott. He recently wrote something along the lines of "what is happening at Michigan, most teams call recruiting".
The only question you need to ask yourself to figure out what you think Harbaugh should do is this: do you want to compete at the highest level on the football field?
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Seems like both your points||
Seems like both your points revolve around future effects on recruiting. Time will tell if it backfires in the future, but Harbaugh has the 3rd ranked recruiting class in the country that should finish in the top-5 and may sign the number 1 prospect in the country in his first full year.
Beilein has come even within the ballpark once since he's been here.
People seem to want it both ways but are guaranteed to complain if the other slightly suffers. Hoke was controversy-free in recruiting but got worse each year.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||I think it's comical||
I think it's comical that there's so much handwringing about telling recruits to find another place to play before signing day because they hadn't done as expected.

|2 weeks 6 days ago||Eh||
Eh, I feel bad for Swenson but he hadn't officially visited yet and that has been a clear tie between the players that we've had decommit. I find it hard to believe he didn't have an idea this was coming further out.
I'm mostly happy we have people with some stones running the program nowadays. I want to fucking win.
|3 weeks 4 hours ago||Disturbing||
Might be the most disturbing GIF I've ever seen. Lots of weird in this one.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Honestly||
Honestly, I want to do everything within the rules to win at this point in my Michigan fandom. The past 10 years have changed how I look at Michigan football. If we want to be competitive in big time football, we're going to have to do things differently than we've done recently.
I'm not going to turn my nose up at letting recruits find another place to play before signing day when it turns out they aren't what the coaches expected
Academic scholarships can be pulled for bad grades during a senior year, I don't see how this is much different - except that for some reason people tend to see school grades as "objective" and athletic performance evaluations as "subjective" when they're both the same thing.
If true, I put this one firmly in the "good luck, sorry it didn't work out here" category.

|17 weeks 1 day ago||RE: Saban||
Do not misconstrue what I'm about to say as calling Saban a bad coach...
I've always thought Saban's success has been predominantly dependent upon talent and that his 'coaching' is completely overrated. That doesn't mean I think he's bad; look no further than last year to see that talent alone doesn't lead to wins.
But looking at his career:
Nick Saban is clearly a great recruiter and identifier of talent, but I've never thought of him as an outstanding X and Os coach and I think that is what is actually showing up against these spread teams. Unless he has a clear talent advantage, he has trouble. Repeatedly seeing this demonstrates he's not a 'great' schematic coach.
I'd like to think that Harbaugh and Durkin (and whoever our next defensive coordinator is after Durkin inevitably leaves) have shown an ability to scheme to their players' strengths, rather than rely entirely on a talent advantage. We'll see.

The On The Banks comment section was pure gold, Jerry.
While most understand Chip Kelly to Rutgers was pretty tongue in cheek, several of the commenters didn't like him because "he doesn't fit Rutger's style of football". HA. No words for that.
I also enjoyed the conversation about how the Rutgers coaching candidates look like the hodgepodge of Republican presidential candidates, and they want Trump for AD so they can get "MAKE RUTGERS GREAT AGAIN" hats. I would buy 5.

Some concepts and ideas have the opportunity for more but, in my opinion, there isn't much worse comedic writing than satire that goes beyond the good stuff and then the joke starts to fall flat. I notice that a lot on Clickhole articles; I find I feel like they're trying too hard to be funny, which isn't funny.
In other words, I would rather take short and funny over screwing up a good concept because it went too long. Maybe that's why I'm a HUGE fan of American Voices in The Onion.

I'm so happy my family doesn't try to do unique names. I am eternally grateful that my name is classically spelled and traditional for my heritage and the country I live.
I won't criticize others choosing "unique" names, although I do think to myself "what a bunch of fucking idiots to name their kid _________."
My only outward criticism is to people that name their kids nicknames or dumb spellings of conventional names. If you want to call your kid "Liam", fine, whatever it's your choice, but his name should be "William". Want to name him "Jack"? It should be John (or James or Joseph if you want to push it).
Additionally, if you've managed to pick a normal name, can you not manage to spell it correctly? Amy should be Amy, not Aimee; Katie should be Kathryn/Kathleen and not Kati or Caty whatever else terrible variation people come up with. James should not be Jaymes; Ryan should not be Rian or Rhian or something dumber than that.
People defying these conventions make me want to punch them in the face.

No reason to add "Michigan" to the seminal M in sports. The Mixzou anecdote above is a perfect example of why Michigan is able to stick to the basics and should take advantage of it.

I think there are some greater athletes that were left off in favor of overall sports stars. Maybe I'm splitting hairs but that wasn't the list I was expecting.
|45 weeks 5 days ago||No||
It looks great and sounds better.
|45 weeks 6 days ago||Yes||
Yes, I generally agree with your sentiment.
My problem stems from the fact that it seems like a large portion of the new topics in the past however-long are just people judging others negatively. It's like some posters on here watched a bizarro-world Lego Movie with a theme song titled "Everything Is Terrible".
The board is not as much fun/lighthearted and I find myself reading the comments less and less. As if the MGoBoard is SERIOUS BUSINESS for SERIOUS PEOPLE.

This is the only sticker idea that I can get behind.
Otherwise, no stickers. I hate stickers.
OP's idea isn't as bad as other alternatives if stickers are going to happen, though.

You've got a pretty nice website here, Ace. Does that Brian guy do anything?
|47 weeks 6 days ago||Full story?||
Also, I want to know the full story and what else he said. I mean, I'm guessing it was a pattern of really inappropriate stuff but the specific instances pointed out by the deadspin article aren't terrible. Didn't Mike Leach say something about losing because his players were thinking about their "fat little girlfriends"?

|47 weeks 6 days ago||Dominic Greene||
Agreed, Dominic Greene was a wimp who wasn't even really that powerfu, I mean, that whole secret organization was kind of a weird story building off casino royale...although I liked the storyline of how Felix Lieter came to be better buddies with Bond through the side angle of the douchey CIA agent.

|49 weeks 2 days ago||Internet Trolls||
The thing about people saying "don't take the bait" or "it's just Internet trolls" is that it really isn't people accepting or tolerating the behavior so much as the realization that one can't just police the Internet, find every dickhead, and do something meaningful about it.

|49 weeks 6 days ago||Random thoughts||
A. I just binge watched Twin Peaks on Netflix a few weeks ago and it's awesome. What a weird combo of soap opera, mystery, (mostly dark) comedy. Cooper is the best, but David Lynch as Gordon Cole cracks me up, too. "YOU ARE WITNESSING A FRONT THREE-QUARTER VIEW OF TWO ADULTS SHARING A TENDER MOMENT."
B. Shelly and Audrey are so hot. And Sherilyn Fenn is from Detroit.
C. Is your avatar a victim of the recent google ad policy crackdown?

|50 weeks 5 days ago||Reports vs. Essays||
I believe Brian has brought this up before, and I know I certainly view him this way - Brian is an Essayist and not a Reporter.
His game summaries are not pure fact or telling what happened. Ace typically does a fine job of that. Brian provides narration and emotion that connect the audience to Michigan - clearly something that is working well for him, especially for fans of something like the University of Michigan (rather than, say, the Pistons).
He has fact-based posts (UFR, Season Previews, etc.), sure, but he is generally not contacting sources and providing reports in the traditional newspaper sense.

Yes! I read that and thought, "Should I google this?...nah too lazy, it's Brian, he probably got it right."

Ah, got ya. Thanks. I suppose I would fire off some duds, too, if I had to come up with something each week for an opinion piece.
|50 weeks 5 days ago||What was the impetus for the first opinion piece?||
Maybe I missed it, but I never saw the reason for why "Relative Wealth" was written in the first place? Did I miss something?
Also - shocker! Someone who grew up in an extremely privileged area is out of touch with the way the thick part of the bell curve lives. OP is a little dramatic.

No sick days since 2009 and the several I took in 08/09 were hangovers. Now I will probably be sick by Friday...
Also - agreed with the above posters: You people (YES YOU PEOPLE) who go to work sick are the worst type of coworkers, right up there with egomaniacs, lazy people who don't follow-through, and OSU/MSU fans.

Comments like this are always talking about somebody's daughter, or wife, or sister, or mom, etc.
How is it worse?
|1 year 2 weeks ago||First of all, wrong...||
First of all, wrong - a hockey stick with too much curve or too long is typically a 2-minute minor penalty and you have to use a different stick. Page 16.
Second, wrong and not what I said - Scuffing balls is not pine tar and until 2007 resulted in a called ball. It is still at the discretion of the umpire if he deems there was no intention to change the characteristics of a pitch
Don't be sanctimonious and wrong.
Third, have you read the applicable part of the rulebook? I've already cited it in this thread - page 96 of the NFL rulebook. Ejection is not an applicable penalty. While Goodell can overturn the outcome of the game afterward, the rule clearly states it only applies to the portion of the game where the unfair act happened, and since the balls were replaced at halftime and the Patriots won the second half 28-0, I doubt that's a rational penalty. And if it's ejection you want, they were still killing the Colts at half when Brady/Belichek would've been ejected. Doesn't make sense to me as far as punishment fitting the crime but if that's how you feel...
I won't tell people they're wrong for thinking this should result in a suspension (and that is within the commissioner's power) but you're just being obnoxious about not getting a lot of these facts correct.

|1 year 2 weeks ago||This is a dumb take...||
This is a dumb take, much dumber than the one you criticize.
Equating underinflated balls to steroids is like equating driving 2 miles over the speed limit to drunk driving.
The punishment for the crime is in the rules. Just like scuffing baseballs, curving hockey sticks, and a bunch of other minor competitive offenses that can occur in sports. Page 96 of the NFL rulebook.
|1 year 2 weeks ago||Not an HR contributer||
Not an HR contributer but am a consultant who works in areas including corporate compliance, and the key to following the rules is to first read the rules.
Nowhere does it say forfeiture is the penalty. According to the rulebook below, the Commissioner has the option to punish as he sees fit based on severity of the unfair act. While you or others may feel that forfeiture is the right action and that's your perogative, the process for handling an unfair act is clearly defined...
"The Commissioner’s powers under this Section 2 include the imposition of monetary fines and draft-choice forfeitures, suspension of persons involved in unfair acts, and, if appropriate, the reversal of a game’s result or the rescheduling of a game, either from the beginning or from the point at which the extraordinary act occurred."
Considering the Pats won 28-0 after the balls were replaced, I doubt the severity would every merit forfeiture of the game.
C'mon doc, don't they make you read lots of books and stuff in school?
|1 year 2 weeks ago||Soooo....||
Sooo scraping up baseballs or curving your hockey stick should get you banned from the World Series and Stanley Cup, is that what you're saying?
What is your ideal punishment?
|1 year 2 weeks ago||No||
This is just because the media doesn't have anything to talk about but hockey, basketball, and college basketball right now and those sports aren't at exactly the most exciting part of their season.
The Super Bowl is the only thing going on and they know they can't just say "Are Tom and Bill the best evar?!" and "Seahawks DEFENSE" nonstop for 2 weeks.
