How is the number of Early Enrolee slots determined? How many will there be next year? Is it as many as you can back-date? As many 5-years leaving after the fall semester?
|1 week 3 days ago||Outliers?||
This is pretty cool to check out. One question: How did you decide which were outliers?
Kingston Davis, for example, has readings of : 2.75 - 3.0 - 3.25 - 3.5 I'm not sure why the 2.75 is more of an outlier than the 3.5.
Same with Nate Johnson. Two 3.25s, a 2.75 (only .5 below those two) and a 4.0 (.75 above those two.) It would seem that if there is an outlier there, it is the 4.0, not the 2.75. (The 4.0 is 0.69 above the average. The 2.75 is 0.56 below.)
Perhaps this all has something to do with you standardization formula which shifted those ratings a bit. Regardless, thanks for all of the effort!

|2 weeks 2 days ago||DaiShon Neal||
Daishon Neal is the kid who's family basically made up some bullsh!t about Mattison last year, so that would be the most likely bet.
I seem to remember Sam Webb with a quote which was something to the effect of "His high school coach can't really come out and say that the kid and/or his dad is an @sshole, but he is" (That wasn't really the quote, but the sentiment was similar.)
...Found Webb's info summarized HERE. "I was told by [Neal's high school coach] that the other side of this entire story is an utter fabrication. In the meeting yesterday afternoon was the kid, the uncle, and the dad. The part about academics was completely misrepresented. Apparently Mattison talked about how kids with 4.0s and high test scores get turned away from Michigan all the time. He did that to highlight how academically prestigious the school is and lead into what a special opportunity to he had in front of him. The whole "Mattison got thrown out of the house" comment is fiction too. The kid walked Mattison to his car and talked about how high he was on Michigan. Suffice it to say Michigan thought it was most likely going to get the kid afterward. That the visit was twisted the way it was came as a complete shock."
|2 weeks 3 days ago||No PSU||
The assumption (which has been floated out there already) is that PSU is out and they are aware of that.
He's still a heavy, heavy M lean, but not formally decided/declared at this point.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Who's argument?||
I have never stated, opined, asserted, or speculated that Swenson knew all along. I simply pointed out that it could be a possibility and also that numerous assumptions are being made (positve and/or negative) to fill in the huge information gaps at this point.
I'll also point out that your response to what you asserted was my logic/argument is based on yet another assumption (that I believed to be true the hypotheticals I mentioned as an alternate possibility.) While I have no way to know if your assumptions about Swenson are incorrect, I can comfortably say that those you made about me are off base.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||More info||
That would certainly appears to be a mark in the "learned more recently" column.
To give a hypothetical in the other column, he might have been told previously that this was a possiblity only if things really picked up with a number of top recruits, as has happened in the last few weeks.
I'm not saying you're wrong & I'm definitely not saying I'm right (particuarly as I don't have an opinion/assumption on what happened here.)
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Wait how long?||
I missed where it was reported that Swenson just learned of this recently, along with the rest of the public.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Unrealistic?||
I'm not so sure what would be unrealistic about a 4* athlete choosing to go to a school where the coaches expected he would play rather than one where the coaches (hypothetically) said they expect he would not.
Again, I am not saying that he was not pushed out, but it isn't like Michigan is the only place an athlete get a good eduaction and play high-level football. Perhaps it was his choice to look for an option where he could do both after he was told by the staff that they felt PT was highly unlikely for him at UofM.
None of us know what has happened. I'm not sure that either assumption is more or less realistic at this point.
Edit: Yes -- what Leaders And Best said.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Exactly.||
You hit the nail on the head.
The big problem here is that *we* are just now hearing about this. Clearly if there was some change in Swenson's status that occured more than a week or so ago, all of us should and would have been notified.
Because we didn't know before, this must be new information to Swensen as well.

|3 weeks 3 days ago||Agreed. Lots of assumptions in the OP's post||
Agreed. Way too many assumptions here.
How do we know this was just droped on him recently? Perhaps the staff has been very classy in letting him look around while remaining a commit (ala Dele Harding.)
How do we know he was told to look elsewhere? Even if something came from the staff, the message could have been something more like "Unfortunately, with the lack of progression over the past year, we do not envision you playing during the next 4 years." That is honest communication, and one which might prompt a player to decide, on his own, to look elsewhere.
I'm not saying the staff is golden here, but I don't see enough information to reach a conclusion.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||No chance.||
He will not receive an LOI, so there is no possibility that he will send one back.

|5 weeks 2 days ago||& can't pick the committed school, right?||
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but once a player has committed to a school, no one can crystal ball to that school anymore, right?
So, for example, while Quinn Nordin is committed to Penn St. people can only add new picks for a different school (eg Michigan) but not for him to stay with PSU..
Same with Evans. No one can put in anymore picks for Michigan, but can throw in a guess that he might flip to another school.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||Also this||
— CB Vernon Hargeaves III (-1.3) had a bit of a mixed finished to a not-great season by his standards. Out of the 28 targets that the Gators’ defense saw, only two of them went at Hargreaves. The negative about that was that he allowed both of them to be caught for 76 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown play was bad, as Hargreaves bit on a double move and was completely burned. On the other reception though, he had fantastic coverage that was just beaten by a perfect throw. Despite a season where he finished 54th among corners in terms of coverage grade (he was second last season) Hargreaves will likely still go in the top 10 of the NFL draft, and the team that picks him will likely not be disappointed.

I know that the instructions on the GoGo Inflight wireless service specifically mention that streaming services like Netflix, etc. are not allowed (blocked?) ...Unsure about WatchESPN. I've used their wireless, but have not tried streaming anything. You might want to chat with their customer service to find out if just a few select sites vs. all streaming is blocked before you fork over the money for it.
Then again, if you go with an "unofficial" stream rather then the WatchESPN app, maybe their software is not sofisticated enough to notice? It's probably worth the money to try. Worst case scenario, I would think that you would able to get a stream of the radio broadcast.
Good luck and Go Blue!

|35 weeks 5 days ago||Davis effect?||
I wonder how much of a factor, if any, Kingston Davis might have been in this offer.
I am in no way suggesting that Joshnson is not worthy of an offer on his own merits, but having both teammates committed (along with Washington already on campus) will only help our attempts to keep Davis in the fold as he fields more serious interest from many of the top SEC programs.
Clearly the coaches would not have offered Johnson if they did not feel he was qualified, but maybe the teammate factor weighed in a bit?

Malzone, Gentry, Speight, and Morris will all have 1 year in the system. At this point it, unfortunately, seems unclear if Speight and Morris' previos time in the previous system was helpful.
I expect a transfer before the 2016 season, but it could just as easily be O'Korn if he arrives this year and then realizes that any number of QBs already on the roster are in front of him going into the 2016 campaign.

Shane isn't a young player. He'll be a junior. Typically the younger quarterbacks develop via redshirt, practice, etc.

|1 year 8 weeks ago||Where is he now?||
I'm not sure how universally loved he has been by the fanbase, at least after the M academics-bashing while he was at Stanford.
I don't know if he'd fall into "hated" category, but there is bound to be some collective frustration/hurt feeling/sour grapes if he spurns such an aggressive offer.
EDIT: While I don't expect it, if he turns the offer down and there is an appearance that he is/was stringing Michigan along just to gain leverage for his next NFL contract, then I'd expect he'd move him more toward the "hated" category.

Looks like he has a new tweet with the same response. Your point is a good one.
|1 year 8 weeks ago||That's what I'd wondered too.||
That's what I'd wondered too. That quote, to my anxious over-analyzing ears, does not sound too reassuring. I read it as if they were not planning to consider the Michigan offer much, but now might be re-thinking that.
Hopefully that's not the case. Maybe it's more of a "we didn't think Michigan would give an offer that was significant enough to consider, but now we're talking!"
|1 year 8 weeks ago||Thanks.||
Thanks for the embed. I thought I'd actually figured it out, but no such luck.

|1 year 8 weeks ago||Confidence Booster||
I agree with the title.
The AD seems to be handling the Harbaugh courting as well as possible. It give me confidence that they are serious about fixing the many current issues. I hope Harbaugh will choose to be a part of that solution, but even without knowing what Plan B is, I have much more optimism now than I did several weeks/months ago.
|1 year 8 weeks ago||No.||
No one else is hoping that.
EDIT: or hopping, as you and the Easter Bunny might say. :-)
|1 year 8 weeks ago||This||
"THEY'VE DONE WHAT THEY HAD TO DO. Michigan assembled a kickass offer to come back to Ann Arbor and run the town. It is now highly public. If Harbaugh doesn't come, that's on him. No milquetoasty private conversations about how he flaked leaking out over the years; no debate about whether Michigan had a bonafide offer. They came strong and public in exactly the way they should have last time."
I totally agree, and that has been my feeling this whole way through. I've agreed with Brian's assessment all the way through that M/Hackett were doing this properly. If Harbaugh doesn't want to come back to Ann Arbor, I'll respect that, and I'll really respect how Michigan carried out the search.
...sure hope this is ItsHappening.gif!!!

I don't know how reliable that is, but the ESPN Playoff Machine has the tiebraker going to the Packers, not the Lions, in this scenario.

EDIT: Mercifully no.
|1 year 9 weeks ago||How long?||
Yahoo TV shows this as running from 12:30 to 3:00. Is this thing really 3.5 effing hours?
Anyone know when they will actually announce the teams/seeds?
|1 year 9 weeks ago||Not for him, for his new team.||
It's not leverage for Harbaugh's personal contract. It's leverage to reduce the amount that his new team would have to give up to get him. (As Brian mentioned in a front page post recently: the more a new NFL team has to give up to get him, the more difficult it makes it for him to win in that new location.)
The idea that he could leave the NFL entirely reduces the "asking price" the 49ers might have for other NFL organizations trying to get him. If he walks from the NFL, the 49ers get no draft picks in return. If he stays in the NFL, there would likele be some sort of compensation to S.F.

|1 year 9 weeks ago||Also interesting...||
Also interesting, it predicts the 11-2, 2011 team to beat this 5-7, 2014 team, but with just a 63.34% confidence.
I initially expected more confidence, but thinking back to the comebacks/close games in 2011, perhaps this is not so surprising.

Regularly compete for the conference title.
Occasionally (every 1-4 years) winning the BIG and make into the (by then likely expanded) 8-team playoff which will likely include most, if not all, of the Big 5 conference champs + 3 others.
In other words, consistently relevant.

|2 years 20 weeks ago||Your not Michigan||
If that's not ironic, than your not Michigan.
Boom! Poor grammar'ed & un-michigan'ed
...Drops the mic.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Reading comprehension?||
Two points for you. You clearly identified that it is not ironic to criticize the football team while making grammatical errors.
Here's what is ironic: Making assertions about what is or is not "Michigan" while doing so with verbage that indicates a lack of comprehension of junior high English.
It is fair to to say that if one wants to assert that "your not Michigan" then perhaps you're not Michigan.
...Also Ironic: me typing my intial reply quickly and missing the "e" on waste
|2 years 20 weeks ago||The Basics||
Speaking of not having the basics down: *we're (x2) *you're (x2) (kudos for the last "your" being correct. 1/3 isn't so bad...)
I'm not one to make to wast much time on here with corrections, but if you're going to make assertions about what is and is not Michigan, doing so with those mistakes is more than a bit ironic.
"Unrelated, but reading on ESPN that frank Clark said after the game that "were michigan, were going to stop playing down to our competition and get this fixed" while that's the right attitude, your not Michigan, your not playing like it at all, stop worrying about championships and start worrying about your play and blocking. We don't even have the basics down and talk about playing for titles."

|3 years 4 weeks ago||When?||
When did they say that the new division format will be released?
I'll be content with either option that puts M and OSU in the same diviison, though I think the East/West will give us better exposure for recruiting.
|3 years 4 weeks ago||On a blog?||
If we consistently adopted that philosophy there would certainly be many fewer things to read about on MGoBlog. Aren't most of us here much of the tim to do the opposite?
|3 years 4 weeks ago||No, loose.||
Maybe he was referring to injuries related to inflexibility. If you don't stretch enough (aka loose) then you get injured and have to leave the team.

|3 years 8 weeks ago||East-West for recruiting?||
Posted this on Brian's thread too:
I'm wondering if a stacked Eastern division is better. Recruits know they are guaranteed a number of big games each year. Also, playing at Maryland and Rutgers every other year probalbly helps recruiting.
I think the odds of winning the division are a bit lower in the East/West format, but it also makes for a great number of big games and might help recruiting in some hotbed areas. I'm going east-west.

|3 years 47 weeks ago||Walk on =/= 3-4*||
It seems to me that a prefferred walk on without a profile on Rivals or Scout (at least that I could find) =/= a 3-4 star 2013 prospect. Mandle is still a welcome addition, but if the coaches really think we need another top TE, they'll still take one. There is still a lot of time to evaluate prospects and give out offers.
Also, if the coaches really think we need another top TE, I hope we get one. They know far better than we what our needs really are. Perhaps they're expecting more attrition and know we'll be in the 23-24 range. Maybe everyone will be happy!
|3 years 47 weeks ago||Mixed feelings||
Normally I'd be pretty bummed to miss out on a target the coaches are high on, but given the feeling that we're rapidly running out of room for "best available" targets, and we already have 2 TEs committed, it doesn't feel quite as bad right now.
Also, if he's going to end up elsewhere, he's much less likely to come back to hurt us at Pitt.
|3 years 47 weeks ago||Or else, indeed.||
Or else we'll have picked up other well-regarded players, most likely.
