They should develop a mood helmet. When things are going good, it would look all colorful like a rainbow. When things are going bad (ie when they play anyone with talent), it would turn gray with a matte finish.

We all remember that situation.  I am much more of a reader than contibutor to this board over these years, but I think most of us would agree with you.  They certainly recruit well at USC, and I won't ever criticize a player for his choices.  I met a couple of the song-girls years ago, and they would probably have made the choice difficult for me too (that is if I had any football talent and the opportunity to be a local celebrity there).  We'll be fine, and so will USC; hopefully we'll have a chance to meet up with them again soon on the field.

More like Crowley's

I live in Durham NC now but grew up in Southfield. People down here in north Carolina are as nice as they come. Belk is kinda lame but still nice. It is nicer than Penny's or Sears but not quite as nice as JL Hudson's back in the day. Thus my comparison to Crowley's. All you youngins who can't remember Hudson's or Crowley's can shut up and get off my lawn.

1 year 31 weeks ago Just an average Sparty: hear me out on this.

I'm 42 now; as a high school senior, I visited my sister at Akers dormitory at MSU numerous times.. and should have become an alcoholic in the aftermath.  I have to say that I never met a nicer bunch of people who partied that hard in all of my life.  On one occasion, after getting completely obliterated and lost while trying to get back, I passed out under a huge low hanging spruce such that only my feet stuck out from under the tree.  I remember this: some completely random sparties pulled me out by my feet and asked me where I was supposed to be.  They carried me back to my sisters dorm and dropped me in front of her door.  As some of you know, I was a Michigan football cheerleader back in the acrobat squad days; I bleed blue,  and generally dislike Sparty football, but I think if that had been in Ann Arbor I might still be under that tree.

I do listen to WTKA on my iPhone from North Carolina every morning. I love Sam and Ira.  Today for the first time I listened to "the Big Show" and their callers.  I turned it off.  I don't live in Michigan anymore, and I am just disgusted listening to these no-nothing vomits (callers primarily) who claim to be Michigan fans.  Win or lose and whatever the ultimate fate of our current coaching staff, these people are an embarrassment.  If Coach Rod does not last at Michigan, I will always support the Michigan team 100% - just like I am supporting them now.  However, I beleive in this program and the coach and will give it the opportunity it deserves.  I will stay, and I'll feel like a champion when our time comes.  And it will.

2 years 31 weeks ago And sometimes when you're on...

You are really fuckin ON!
Go Blue

2 years 31 weeks ago Good Morning Blaze

You sound fired up.

I think you keep up the pressure and the look of the Dline.  Offense sticks with the system but hopefully adds in Tousaint.  The biggest changes (most amount of work) will go into defending the middle of the field.  I listened to Sam Webb yesterday and today, and I think he is right.  If we can't work through our deficiencies behind the defensive line, the run could kill us as badly as the pass.  What remains to be seen is whether scheme adjustment alone will work.  I personally think (although I don't attend practice) that we really ought to consider testing some of the younger players at those positions.

2 years 31 weeks ago That was what I thought too.

At the time, I thought it was a terrible hire, yet the guy is getting things done and has the team highly ranked.  Good for him.  I personally prefer our coaches, and I would not be surprised if they don't sustain this.

2 years 31 weeks ago I am on board.

I am on board, and have been all along.  Every now and then someone brings up another team going through a change so that we can contrast them.  I think that Brian Kelly's story is still too early.  However, am I the only one who is impressed with the Auburn transition?  I don't know much about them, but I think that their transition was quite good.

2 years 32 weeks ago Sam this morning:

Sam and Ira were discussing this issue today.  They said that a Michigan State player had made a comment that the scout team was killing the defense at Tuesday's practice consistently.  Tuesday's practice was live (full speed/contact), while Wed and Thursday were not.

2 years 32 weeks ago Bingo.

Bingo.

2 years 32 weeks ago Right on the money.

Reverse Troll - very nice!

That was entertaining.  SUCK it Trebek!  O'Doyle Rules!

2 years 32 weeks ago I agree.

If any other team tries it, they will not have the same success.  I frankly hope that someone tries to do it.  There is a reason Chappell had no interceptions since last year.

2 years 32 weeks ago Wrong in part.

It gives them lots of opportunities to rack up yards running many, many plays.  Some of these will end with scores, some will not.  Errors are going to happen to an opposing offense.  Indiana executed well and had few unforced errors.

Regarding rest, barwis says rest is for pussies.

2 years 32 weeks ago He is right, and there's are reason we are doing this.

The numbers are the numbers.  It is very clear to every opponent that the pass defense is a weakness. Every team, but especially pass-first teams, will try to expoit this.  If they have an accurate experienced QB, it will go well, but the drives will be long if the defense does not give up the big play.  At the same time, more (but shorter) pass plays are more opportunities for errors.  This is simple strategy on the part of the Michigan D to make up of our deficiency.  This approach - as distasteful as many of you all find it to be - is the approach that gives us the best chance of winning games right now.

Next season, this strategy will probably not be as necessary given the loss of nearly all of the  experienced Big Ten QB's.

2 years 32 weeks ago How do they compare though?

I am less concerned about Tolzien and Stanzi than I was with Chappell.  Not because I think those games will be easier, but Chappell is accurate (we knew that), and his receivers as a group are top-notch.  I don't think the same is true for the other two.  Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see any other team in the Big Ten hitting us with passing numbers like Chappell did.

2 years 33 weeks ago Sam: he formed a clot on anticoagulation

He was already anticoagulated.  He's going to need a filter.  That would a bit of an issue.

2 years 33 weeks ago I seriously would take your post down.

That was the first time I've asked a question like that on this board in the two years I have been here, and somehow, that was egregious enough to nail me for 250 points after yelling at me.  I got the message.

2 years 33 weeks ago Wait wait wait

So if Dee goes blue, then Ryles does too, but if Dee goes to another SEC school, but HA HA goes blue, then Ryles comes with him.  But if HA HA goes to Alabama and Ryles goes to another SEC school, then Dee goes blue?  Then what happens to Ricardo - is he in on this?  I don't know who this Dr Phillips is, but I really like him.

2 years 33 weeks ago close call...

I was totally thinking that you were going to post an question as to whether mobile qb's are injured more often.  I was going to try to warn you off before getting crushed by the ruthless MgoMob.

2 years 34 weeks ago Yep, I think you might be right.

If I were an unreal high school RB prospect, wanted by all of the power programs, Michigan would be my first choice based on the perspective of my experiences.  However, if you asked me to name another school that would be appealing for similar reasons (assuming no other emotional ties), I would say Alabama.  I will fly to Ann Arbor and jump off the Bell Tower if he chooses Alabama, but I would not fault him severely if he does.  neg away, boys if you need to.

2 years 34 weeks ago Dude:

Judging my your handle, I'm guessing I know where you stand.  For a second, think about this as a business person.  Blue Durham was being facetious; his point was that neither one of those things are going to happen this year.  We all hope so in the future.  You've been here way too long to make a comment like that.

2 years 34 weeks ago Oddly enough

2 years 34 weeks ago We must give this Rodriguez a wide berth.

We must give this Rodriguez a wide berth.

2 years 34 weeks ago You don't deserve a neg for that.

Troy is a great athlete, and if he does not fully recover to the extent that he can play corner, he may still be valuable at another role position provided he can get some significant portion of his speed back. Even with 90% of his speed, he might play a key role on special teams in a worst case scenario.

2 years 34 weeks ago Good one.

But - regardless of all the crap that goes around here, Kovacs makes plays.  If he gets surpassed by others in the future, fine.  But this is one guy I will not speak about negatively.  I am not telling anyone what they should and should not think or write.  In my opinion, this is one guy on the current roster who will make a play when needed or die trying.  The stripped ball last week sealed the deal in my mind.  Kovacs is on my list of personal favorites.  Just one man's opinion.

2 years 34 weeks ago Town Club

Is Town Club pop still around in Detroit?

2 years 34 weeks ago "pop"

I've been out of the midwest too long.  That took me back.  When I hear that word I think of Faygo Redpop, Rock n' Rye, and Grape.

2 years 34 weeks ago Kicking is a limited physical skill relative to other positions.

The problem is that it has an enormous mental aspect that all of the more physical positions do not.   SO - if a guy has the physical skill to kick a fricking ball far and with the right vector, then it should be easier for him to work out mental issues than a player at a physical position who is outmatched by an opponent.

That is, unless he is actually a total basket case mentally, which Gibbons is not.  I actually have faith in this guy.  Mike Gillette was not that good either when he arrived.

What we need to do is start sending recruiters to eastern Europe.  Homer Simpson says that immigration was invented to bring field goal kickers to the US

Correction to my prior comment:

Most of the time, the mascots did go along with it.  It was the Miami Ibis who actually did NOT agree.  That's why it was so entertaining.  That episode almost ended in a brawl.  The guy was yelling and swearing at us the whole time.  My buddy just corrected me on this one.

Looks like Patrick Peterson's mom told all her friends.

Jeeeeez

2 years 34 weeks ago You got me....

I am not sure when it truly started, but we were doing it in the late 80's.  In 1988, the two Michigan cheerleading teams merged - the long-standing all-male acrobatic team (mostly former gymnasts) and the co-ed squad which was started just a couple years prior.  The old male squad can still always be identified at homecoming by the all-maize sweaters.  The co-ed team was identifiable by their stereotypical cheerleader behavior and complete absence of sense of humor.  For the first couple years, the old men's squad filled the ranks on the new team, and the "crotching" tradition went on (along with many other fan favorites.)

But when those guys all graduated, many of the best traditions went with them.

2 years 34 weeks ago The "crotching"

The crotching was always staged.  (I was involved during 3 of those years).  Typically we did not meet the opposing teams cheerleaders until the actual game started.  The crotching discussion generally took place at half-time.  On many occaisions though, the crotching would be completely unwarned.  It was usually a decision of the male team captains, and these guys generally had a pretty good sense of humor.  I can tell you, when we were carrying those dopey mascots toward that pole, every single guy was laughing his ass off to the point that it hurt.

We would usually run them past the goal post once or twice for the fake-out effect.  Then the last one would be the hit.  Sadly, we generally were nice enough to lift their asses up just as we hit, so that we wouldn't completely destroy the goods.

Sebastian the Ibis was a good guy that year, and he definitely played it up.  He was one who agreed to go along with it.  Others did not agree, and many still got the treatment.

2 years 34 weeks ago You might be right here.

For me, this is the coaching watch hot seat for us after the season.  If they make a change with Gibson, it would confirm suspician.

2 years 35 weeks ago Oh to be young.

I also wish I were naive enough to agree....

2 years 36 weeks ago Wrong on your differential doc.

I can list a hundred things but here are just a few: epidural hematoma, subdural hematoma, and retinal tear.  These are all bad, and all require immediate evaluation and treatment if discovered.

2 years 36 weeks ago He had a visual change.

Could have been complete, partial, blurriness or whatever.  The kid should have been taken for a formal ophthalmologic exam to look at the retina, as well as a CT scan of the head.  This was handled badly unless the report of any visual change was incorrect.

2 years 36 weeks ago Respectfully

There were errors at critical times throughout the game, especially penalties.  Holding calls and personal fouls drive the coaches nuts.  When a personal foul occurs after a significant play for yardage, it's about the worst thing that can happen other than a score.  I cannot agree more with the OP on this.  When you can play below your abilities that much and yet still win, it says you are on track.

2 years 36 weeks ago Based on the fact

Based on the fact that the entire national media has this as a second thought story and barely mention it, I would say no.  That does not mean that it is not equal or worse (equal in my opinion).  But it says that Michigan is a program that is on a much higher pedastal than Va Tech.  So even though it's equal, NOBODY will care like they did with Happy Appy.  We're Michigan, that's just how it's gonna be, better or worse.

2 years 36 weeks ago This just in: according to QBForce.com

Mgoblog now has its own separate section on the Hall of Shame.

2 years 36 weeks ago I hope you are right

...but Texas Southern is at the bottom of the SWAC and lost last week to Prairie View by something like 16-14.  I am an eternal optimist, but it would be easier to read into this if TSU were even a reasonable team.

2 years 36 weeks ago Nothing against them?

(the following may not be popular - neg away if you feel you must)

That whole QBForce site is an embarrassment not only to their family but to the programs in which they are involved.  They obviously do not realize how ridiculous it makes them look.  They are analogous to a "pageant family" in the south.  I don't fault Tate for his attitude issues.  He was raised this way.  I wish there I could like him but winning or losing, he is not a likable guy at this point in his young life.  Kid needs to get some Molk wisdom stat.

2 years 36 weeks ago Unfortunately Don

I think you are right.  The reason I spend so much time reading this blog is because this is one place where clear thought prevails through dissemination of accurate information (along with a touch of homerism).  Michigan fans are generally smart about football, but so few spend time understanding the team.  They need more KNOWLEDGE.

2 years 36 weeks ago Big Boutros

Biggie:  I am listening to you right now.  You have a fairly bizarre affect, my friend.

But I like it.

2 years 36 weeks ago I appreciate what everyone is saying, but...

...you need to get used to the fact that this Michigan team is not the same type of team we knew in the past.  Almost any SEC team would walk into a matchup out of conference and know that they are the faster team.  The news flash here is that this Michigan team is as fast, if not faster than every team in the esss-eee.seee.  We're not playing Wisconsin on Saturday - we're playing another team that is transitiioning to a speed game.  The difference is that they are less of a complete team than Michigan.

So you can run and tell that, ho- ho- ho- ho- home boy

2 years 36 weeks ago No need to clarify

That one is so on-target that anyone who misses the reference can only blame himself.

2 years 36 weeks ago I think he would have an easier time

I think that guy would have better chances beating Denard in the 100yard dash than he would picking up a chick at Rick's on a Wednesday night.  (they still do 1 dollar pitchers, right?)

2 years 38 weeks ago Alive and well, actually

I just found it - I had never seen that video.  Go figure.  I was going to post it as a new board item, but this thread needed a lift since the title is going to draw everyone's attention and the content sucks so badly.  But I agree - that video is awesome.  I just watched it three more times.

2 years 38 weeks ago But HERE is something that makes this thread worthwhile:

For those of you needing a good hype video, try this one.  It's from last year, but it is fantastic (especially the very end).  I think it's fitting for this year.

Now everyone can make up his/her own mind, but I have to admit that I love Cox.  Can't get enough of Cox quite frankly.  If you haven't given Cox a chance, you really should.  I hope that Fred Jackson will too.

2 years 39 weeks ago Fran

I always sort of hoped that Tate would eventually be a maize and blue version of Fran Tarkenton.  If he could just turn the "happy feet" into something more consistently productive rather than fear-provoking, that would be nice.  Maybe experience will help make that happen more this year.  Then he can go on to host an updated version of "That's Incredible" and have many infomercials and entrepreneurial ventures after the Hall of Fame.

2 years 39 weeks ago Agreed

Not a big deal - I really don't care where he's going.  If it had been to Columbus, that would have been different.

2 years 39 weeks ago We don't know that for sure

I hear your frustration, but really, you can't know what is going on with him unless you wear his shoes.  We've all gone over this ad nauseum, but it really makes sense to avoid focus on the guys who choose not to play for Michigan.  I don't necessarily wish another WVU well or any other school other than Michigan, but why bother dwelling on him negatively.

...but I'd rather not see this question gather any steam.  The way he phrased it was not direct, yet many people are paraphrasing it as a clear pointed remark.  Personally, I would have prefered that he did not say it.  It's never good to send a message to a teamate or a rival through the media.  We see that all the time in professional sports.  With rivals, it serves as bulletin board fodder, but with teamates, it can be counterproductive to the team.  Whether anything was said or not, if there was a problem, it would get worked out in Schembechler Hall where it should.  Now, what we're going to get is a bunch more negative media attention - this time of our own doing.

2 years 42 weeks ago As much as it sucks for us everytime we go west,

It's like anything else, the more you do it, the more normal it seems.  If we played a PAC10 away game every year, then by the time a senior class came around, they will have been there multiple times.  This would help to remove the novelty of these road-trip games through familiarity.  All of us can remember the many games we should have won, but seemed not to show up with an attitude that we could.  Although USC and Oregon are possible teams to schedule, the rest of the field would be open too - UCLA, Washington State, etc...
