Russell Wilson is a successful NFL QB and you want a taller version of him for a college QB. People need to stop hating on Wilson for his height. I'll take the 5'11" version of Wilson as our college QB because he's doing a great job in the NFL right now. A taller version of Wilson is E.L.I.T.E and on par with Newton level prospect. Yeah that's the ideal, but I'm not ready to pass on a Wilson-type player because of his height

Russel Bellomy, although we haven't been able to see him play much, is supposed to have decent athleticism and mobility. Morris is reported to have decent athleticism and mobility. The coaches recruited both of these guys because they like their entire package, including their athleticism.
Obviously, neither of these guys are dilithium/dual threat/scrambler types, but they're also not Henne/Navarre statues (yes, I remember the Navarre QB screen).

Chiefs, Saints, Bucs, Lions all have a chance to make the playoffs.
Chiefs still have a above average defense and now they have a competent passer (not great) with a good supporting offensive cast. There's no way they beat the Broncos, but they could possible get a wildcard. Plus the Raiders are garbage and the Chargers are underacheivers
Saints and Bucs simply because the NFC South has a high turnover rate. Saints get back Payton and have a great O but will be limited by their D.
Bucs should have a good offense and a better D with Revis coming in. Both teams will have trouble beating the Falcons but should both compete for the Wild Card.
Lions will have a dynamic passing Offense but will be limited by their D. No chance they beat the Packers, but they could easily finish ahead of the Bears and Vikings. Chance to compete for the Wild Card.
I don't see anyone outside of the NFC south having a chance to jump from worst to first.

|24 weeks 1 day ago||Obviously neither of us||
Obviously neither of us personally know him, so this is all speculation, but I think that since "THE DECISION" there's been a clear shift in how he relates to the media. Much more adversarial and careful now than he was before he left Cleveland.
In regards to your comment about not feeling bad for the medai attention, these papparzzi photographers in LA would be considered stalkers if they didn't sell their photos to the press. I'm all for the First Amendment, but I think it's a travesty that we allow photographers to stalk celebrities when there's obviously laws against stalking for a reason, it's psychologically damaging to the victim.
|24 weeks 1 day ago||I'm not saying that||
I'm not saying that celebrities are free from any sort of agency or responsibility, but that if everyone remembered that famous people are still people, we might be more courteous in our interactions with them (not tweeting Ryan Matthews that we want his mother to get AIDS or taking pictures of celebrties inside their own homes). This isn't to say that they have a hard life and our deserving of capturing our bleeding hearts, but we need to be careful to make sure that we're not contributing to a system that causes people to have psychological breakdowns.
Just because someone has had an "easy life" by our standards doesn't mean they are somehow less deserving of "humane" treatment. That is a sort of sociopathic self-justification that opens us up to complete moral relativism.
When celebrities enter the public-sphere of twitter, they open themselves up to a certain level of scrutiny, that is their choice, but that doesn't make death threats and comments about people's mothers somehow justified.
We need to have a clear line regarding proper interaction between us and celebrities, for too many people the line is "well they sign up for this so they should take it all with a smile". We essentially take all culpability away from the mass of consumers and say that the masses can do whatever they want and if anything bad happens it's all on the celebrity.
The fact is that there is an entire industry in this country built around watching celebrities implode and too many people take joy in watching rich and famous people self-destruct. It's barbaric.
|24 weeks 1 day ago||There are people that are||
There are people that are "famous for being famous" and there are people that are famous for being artists. If someone truly love acting or making music or playing a sport they shouldn't have to choose between having their privacy invaded or giving up on their dreams.
For people like Kim Kardashian, they've obviously signed up for this. For people like Lebron James, you can tell they've grown tired of being in the limelight and just want to do what they love without constant scrutiny.
We place the economic value on these roles by cooperating in the system, so acting like their fame gives us the right to do this to them is self-justifying. Basically saying that we get to invade the privacy of whomever we choose to by valuing what they do.
|24 weeks 1 day ago||We Americans seem to have||
We Americans seem to have this idea that if someone is rich or famous we somehow gain the right to scrutinize every part of their life and invade their privacy.
I assume that Manziel wanted to play football because he loves football, not simply because he wanted to be famous for it. For us to put a 20 yr old under the microscope like this is utterly dehumanizing. It's easy to forget that famous people like Amanda Bynes and Lindsay Lohan are still actual humans, but our inhumane treatment of celebrities often leads them to have these sorts of psychological breakdowns.
If we don't "feel sorry" for people that live under this constant media surveillance, we're contributing to the problem that leads many celebrities to essentially go crazy.

IIRC, the average fumble recovery rate for a defense is around 58%. So you are predicting not just a regression toward the mean, but a movement well past the mean. While I would also predict a significant drop in percentage recovered, I'd still predict a little bit over the mean (probably around 60%) simply due to the fact that we have the grittiest gritty mcgritterson of all time (Kovacs), who simply by being on the field has to put us above average in this category.

I went to UCONN's stadium for a USA v. Czech Republic soccer game in 2010. The stadium was bad and the parking was awful. I drove up from NJ for the game and it took us 3 hours to get from the highway to a parking spot. It was so bad that we decided to just hang out in the stadium for the post game show (got Alexi Lalas' autograph) and to hang out around the team buses after that (got a picture with Clint Dempsey) (I know cool story bro).
Anyway, the stadium is small and not a good place to watch a game, and the gameday staff for parking was horrendous, a lot of the parking was in a neighboring Cabela's parking lot and the rest was on a big field that had one single lane running through it that they would let cars on. My advice is get there ridiculously early (7 hours before kickoff) tailgate and get a great spot and leave right afterwards, otherwise plan on staying there for 3 hours after the game's over.

I was born and raised in New Jersey, but my parents were both from West Michigan and my father was a season ticket holder for Football before moving east. I was born to be a Michigan fan and watching games was always something that my Father and I would do together on Saturdays. We've been able to go to a couple games together in the big house (including 2008 Toledo, a painful game that game that brought us even closer together), and I look forward to going to the UM basketball Pre-season NIT game with him this Thanksgiving in NYC and the 2013 football game at UCONN (hooray for UM trips to the East Coast).
Growing up in New Jersey, where College football is not a big deal, I always stood out for my die-hard following of the Maize and Blue. People in my school always knew me as "the Michigan kid" as I think I wore a Michigan shirt, hat, sweatshirt, or jacket just about every day. While my fanhood for the Giants, Yankees, or Nets never got much attention, my love for the Wolverines got the attention of others.
Although my mother is the only one in my family to have ever taken classes at UM (some grad classes for Education, she never ended up getting that degree) we are still a family of UM loyalists. I'm going to be a senior in Undergrad this year and UM will probably be one of two schools not on the East Coast that I will be applying ot for grad school.

Wieber was an amazing team leader today. After the difficult day she had in the individual qualifying and being heartbroken after being eliminated on a dumb rule, she was encouraging and leading her teammates throughout the whole day, always smiling and hugging them.
I was blown away by her leadership today.

Considering that going into last year he was an extremely out of shape and unmotivated Offensive Guard, the fact that he switched back to DT and got in decent shape was a very big step. He had flashes of good play and by all accounts he's in much better shape this year. ON top of that he should have a better handle of the defense and a better understanding of technique (year two of Montgomery, Hoke, and Mattison) now that he has some good position coaches.
In my opinion last year was sort of a rehab year for him, position switch, getting in shape, learning proper technique for the first time. While I don't expect him to all of a sudden be Mike Martin out there, I could see him being a pleasant surprise this year.
I still expect him to have a very rough first week, and for him to show himself pretty well for the rest of the year.

Of the top 13 players in Ohio in the composite rankings, 7 are going to UM and 4 are going to OSU.
UM has the top 3 players in Michigan and 6 of the top 12.
UM has the #4 and #6 players from Illinois and is the favorite to get the #2 player in the state (LT)
UM has the #4 player in PA
The composite rankings show just how well UM is getting the top midwest talent, especially in MI and OH.
|1 year 18 weeks ago||I was so bummed earlier this year||
I was so bummed earlier this year when we lost out on the number 1 RB in the country (Ty Isaac on Scout), turns out we might still get the number 1 RB (Green on Rivals). I think this should just serve to indicate how well this year is going for us.
|1 year 18 weeks ago||Yeah, like I said, I remember||
Yeah, like I said, I remember it happening once, back when they would do bullets and paraphrase recruits rather than just quoting what they actually said. I think LT was the one I remembered. I haven't seen it since they've been doing quotes over there, so I haven't really seen it as a pattern as much as a one time thing. I think they provide enough good content and I think they're getting better at reporting more honestly and transparently.
|1 year 18 weeks ago||If I remember correctly||
I think they (the pay sites) criticicized TomVH when he was here for how he dealt with recruits. They need to undermine the attempts of these free sites providing content in order to maintain their power and business model. Unless you see quotes or tweets from recruits (which I remember one recruit tweeting that Tremendous skewed his words and Steve corrected the error and apologized) don't buy it when the paysites just give a wholesale dismissal of their work.

And wow to the fact that we've lost 12 guys from that class. I know that you listed 4 as academic, and all four of them never showed up (maybe Kinard did, I can't remember). But does that mean that the other 8 all transferred in good academic standing and that no one on there should be an APR killer.

|1 year 19 weeks ago||RJS is really surprising||
He was listed as 215 on three sites and 228 on 24/7. Obviously a lot of these are self-reported, but 206 is way lower than anyone would have thought. He was pegged as a possible SAM, but he's 40 pounds away from sniffing PT at the SAM. That's a 20% increase in body weight!

Rawls seems to have lost 15 pounds. Might be a bit more explosive in his running.

Also down 15 pounds from last year.
|1 year 19 weeks ago||A couple surprises||
RJS (206) and Ross (225) seem to have reversed in what we had initially thought. Ojemudia at 223 is still very light for a DE, but a little better than the low 2's we've heard he might be at.
Wormley and Strobel seem to have enough weight to possibly contribute given their lofty ratings.
Both TE's seem to be about 20 pounds heavier than what we last heard with Funchess at a respectable 225, might be able to contribute.

We have this conversation every time a young guy get's offered by a big program. Personally I don't have a big problem with it, as I think it's up to the family to protect their kids from these pressures. I'm sure these kids want to be college football players and they've already made that decision by the time they are in 8th grade.
In Europe, kids are sent off to play for soccer acadamies as young as 12 or 13 where they go to school while simultaneously being semi-pro players for the academy teams of these big clubs. It's up to these kids' familes to make sure these kids are focused on doing the right things and staying grounded.
A college coach offering a scholarship to an 8th grader isn't that big of a deal in my opinion.

I was visiting a friend in College Park, Md on Friday and the wind started going crazy just as we were going into a liquor store, so much dust blowing we could barely see. The power went out while we were in the liquor store and the owner kicked us out so quick we thought we were gonna get shot. My friend still didn't have power as of 2:00 pm today when I left him. Driving around the area was crazy as all the lights were out, saw so many crashed cars that it seemed that just driving around in the outages was the biggest danger.
It was a pretty crazy situation to be in.

I'm an Arsenal fan, but there was a time where I would pay attention to West Ham to see how Spector was doing. I remember either last season or the year before that when he was suiting up as a CM for the Hammers, which showed you both how talented he is (he just can't play well consistently, too many costly errors) and how troubled West Ham was. I'm sure you were glad to see him leave though.
Anyway, I hope West Ham can stay in the premeirship next year, they're a likeable team.

|1 year 26 weeks ago||I have Germany winning it all||
I think Germany will win it all, but at the same time they may not get out of their group (they're with Portugal, Denmark and Nederlands, the proverbial Group of Death). Germany has one of the best GK's (Neuer), 2 of the best Defenders (Lahm and Badstuber), arguably the second deepest MF behind Spain (Schweinstiegger, Kroos, Ozil, Khedira, Gotze, et al.), and one of the best frontlines (Gomez, Podolski, and Mueller).
Aside from Germany, Spain is of course the prohibitive favorite, with the likes of the Netherlands, England, France, Spain, and Italy as the other traditional powers in the tournament. I expect England to exceed expectations and I don't expect much out of Italy. France will be a Wild Card as they are one of the most talented teams, as well as one of the most dysfunctional.
|1 year 26 weeks ago||Faster gamplay, little change||
Not a lot of difference in gameplay. LB's still have incredible jumps/range and better hands than WR's when thrown bullets. DB's seem to not always react to the ball as well, but when they do it seems more likely to be a pick. Passing feels pretty similar despite the supposed changes. Shouldn't buy, but I probably will.
|1 year 26 weeks ago||One solution||
One solution would be to measure ESPN rankings the same way as Scout rankings now, just going by stars, but it really bothers me how Scout's ranking system doesn't easily allow us to compare 4 stars against each other. Obviously there is a big gap between the highest 4-star and the lowest 4-star, which ESPN and Rivals account for with their supplemental rating system. I think the best option is to find an MgoStatistician that can figure out a good way to weight post-2013 ESPN rankings to make them more comparable.
|1 year 26 weeks ago||ESPN has changed their ranking system||
"Players in the classes before 2013 were ranked on a different scale with five-star prospects falling within 85-100, four stars between 79.5-84.99, three stars between 75-79.49, two stars between 68-74.99 and one stars between 55-67.99."
Old Scale v. New Scale
Someone smarter than me might be able to come up with a weight that you could apply to current ratings in order to better compare them to pre-2013 ratings.

Hoke is tough, but apparently WAY more loving as well. The prime example is the Will Hagerup muffed snap where Brady puts him arm around Hagerup and asks him how many he's caught in a row before that drop and how he won't drop one in the next 1,000.
That is not a Bo move right there.
|1 year 27 weeks ago||Re: Dawson not rising enough||
I've heard a couple of complaints about how Dawson didn't rise enough after dominating at the camps and how he should've risen more using the example of how much LTT fell. The truth is, it is infinitely harder to move up 1 spot than it is to be passed by 1 other player in the rankings. The odds make it far more likely to move down than move up as you are closer to the top (regression to the mean). It's like a high school class ranking (by GPA). One great semester can move you from 75th out of 100 to 50th out of 100, a big jump (25 spots). Getting the same great GPA the next semester will only move you up 15 spots, then 5, then 3. As you get closer to the top and the competition gets stiffer it gets harder and harder to move up.
Dawson's jump was huge and reflected a lot of hard work, be content with that.
