This is the chicken or the egg theory. Does the defense struggle because the offense turned the ball over, didn't sustain drives, and put them in bad places? OR did the defense struggle getting off the field, getting take aways, etc to help the offense like they did in 2012.
Probably a case of both sides of the ball being down from 2012 season.

I do believe there is chiling capabilities under the ice at both Comerica and Michigan Stadium in the case of warm temperatures.

Were unable to use amnesty on Sammy last summer due to his "injury." In Goal- Junior CJ Motte (brother of Tyler) 2.31 GAA and .925 save percentage. Is playing better lately after a slow start.
Scoring- Sophomore Matt Robertson has goals in 7 straight games. Senior Garrett Thompson leads the team with 20 pts. (9G, 11A). Although Ferris seems to have pretty balanced scoring with 9 players in double digit points through 17 games.
Defense- Senior Scott Czarnowczan (Captain) is an offensive puck moving defenseman who can score (4G, 10A). Junior Jason Binkley is a more physical defenseman who has 15 pts to go along with 31 PIMS.
Recently Ferris has been giving up a lot of shots, but not so much "quality scoring chances" it will be important Michigan gets into scoring areas and creates traffic to disrupt Motte.

Finally, good luck on your playoff run, small school playoffs are a lot of fun. D7 Espeically could be interesting with Harbor Beach moving from D8 (Defending State Champs) up to D7 this fall.

I thought the same thing, I assume that the Fed's would become involved if it can be proven that the guns traveled across state lines, or took place when Hernandez was in Massachusetts and Pouncey in Florida. Also seems like all of this caught Miami GM/Owner off guard and they were scrambling in the locker room.
|19 weeks 4 days ago||Geographics||
It's simple, cost savings you can't expect a school to travel across state (or down from UP) 2-3 times over a playoff run. The cost of buses, food, hotels (on long trips i.e. Marquette) for 80+ kids and coaches can really hurt schools who already are working on small budgets.
|19 weeks 4 days ago||Big difference||
I personally think there is a HUGE difference between "Hometown Pride" and following a local high school team vs following individual minors who are being recruited. I agree it is sketchy for grown adults to follow high school kids twitter/facebook/etc. Going to watch an alma mater or following a school where you live is different.
|19 weeks 4 days ago||Agree||
I would like to see 4-5 divisions this would be simply done by making 6-3 the required minimum record. Too many 5-4 teams make the playoffs. I know it's an opportunity for kids to have playoff games but honestly most of the time those teams are matched up with 8-1 or 9-0 teams and get simply hammered.

|23 weeks 3 days ago||Constructive vs Bashing||
I've seen plenty of comments regarding the need for certain recruits IF the commentor brings solid reasoning and/or statistcs to back their position. (i.e. "why are we bringing X number of smaller receivers in a class when we have Y already on roster with Z number returing). This is much different than the bashing of a recuit saying "this kid's film looks like he doesn't belong in the MAC why would RichRod ever think he could play at Michigan"
|23 weeks 6 days ago||Slight Difference||
In baseball and hockey though the contracts are regulated by either MLB, or NHL (Canadian Junior leagues also monitor junior contracts). If the NCAA had no collective bargining with the players than their would be no checks and balance like MLBPA or NHLPA has over underage signings.
|23 weeks 6 days ago||Quick Question||
If you are having high school seniors enter into contracts with agents wouldn't parents need to be involved? Most high school juniors (when recruiting really picks up) are not of legal age. So what measures would be available to protect underage kids and or uninformed parents from business savy agents.

On the contrary I think execution is more on the OC than you are leading on. If Borges is asking guys to execute things outside their skill set than that is squarely on him. It is on any OC to put his guys into the best possible scenario for success.
Personally I think there have been games where Borges has done very well at this (read: Notre Dame) yet other times where it looks as if he isn't giving the offensive guys a chance to execute within their abilities, and therefore has taken the majority of the blame. I guess what I am saying is "you can't ask someone to do something in which they are least likely to be sucessful", and expect 'execution' to carry them.

Why are you questioing Kentucky? The basketball fans down there are more fanatic than most college football fans. Yes the top 4 on the list are football programs but Kentucky Basketball is a major revenue stream for that univeristy.

In power house places like Chula Vista CA, or Robert Morris GA, they have "fed ball" or other leagues where they play against other "travel teams" then when Little League starts they have an advantage.

Known Shegos since 2004 and never seen him with facial hair at all. He is a smaller guy (5'7"-5'9").
|31 weeks 1 day ago||Sadly||
I spoke with Shegos last weekend at a golf course where he is a member. He has retired and has no plans on returning. He has told me in the past that the politics of the NCAA/CCHA became to much to handle. He did however say that the B1G Conference did contact him but he declined.

Everyone needs to take a mental break... This kid is a true freshman (yes very talented) but there is a ton to learn in the passing game before a true freshman is really ready to be an every down back. With Fitz, Drake Johnson, Hayes, and Rawls I see NO REASON to rush him onto the field. Get him healthy and then see if he could be an upgrade.

Fairchild for multiple seasons was part of what was the worst umpiring crew in the majors. It contained both Joe West and Angel Fernandez. He learned the art of self-promotion and having ZERO tolerance with players from those two fools.
Since MLB lets guys like Joe West, Angel Fernandez, and others to insert themselves into the game and become the storyline this type of situation will continue.

|33 weeks 2 days ago||Great Question||
Great Question and not knowing the NCAA rules well enough to know, I think it would be really hard exclude a player simply due to a meeting. I would expect a meeting with nothing exchanged (wink* wink* type deal) would be a "minor" violation. But if money, services, or any business agreement was exchanged then a "major" violation.
The question is if you are S. Carolina and it's a grey area do you play him risking violation of wins, or sit him and hope for the best.

|34 weeks 4 days ago||Couple Reasons...||
I think its a couple different reasons. First being needing to fill a starting pitcher spot with another starting pitcher so that eliminated Balfour. Shields was eliminated due to pitching today. As for Holland I completely agree guy has been about the only constant for Texas with all their injuries.
EDIT: Balfour was named a replacement also today during the A's / Red Sox game

|35 weeks 1 day ago||Disagree||
First a healthy Todd Bertuzzi is a guy you play in today's NHL. He's so big and tough on the puck that he causes all kinds of problems for opposing defense. As to you other point about the Eastern Conference, I think you are 100% backwards. The common belief is that the Eastern Conference is MORE Physical than the West. Teams like Ottawa, Montreal, Philly, NY-Rangers, Boston and now Columbus all are big physical teams rather than the "speed" teams you referenced.

Only the best wax for the twigs!
|35 weeks 1 day ago||Limited to two amnesty||
Limited to two amnesty buyouts. So Wings have to do this wisely. Bertuzzi isn't a terrible contract 1 year remaining $2.075mil. The ones that seem to be the "worst" are obviously Samuelsson 1 year $3.0 mil. Then Tootoo's contract, 2 years remaining at $1.9mil per.
Also I wouldn't be surprised seeing one or two of Tatar, Ferraro, Jurco, Sheahan being involved in some sort of trade to aquire a top pair defensman.
Edit: Also Wings already bought out Carlo Coliacovo and only have 1 amnesty remaining. So doubt it will be used this year unless Samuelsson gets healthy enough to pass the physical.
|35 weeks 1 day ago||Roster Issues||
With being limited to carrying 14 forwards, along with Nyquist and Tatar being out of options (not sure on Andersson) the Wings are pretty locked into what the roster will be.
Abdelkader- Datsyuk- Zetterberg
Alfredsson- Weiss- Franzen
Nyquist- Helm- Tatar
Then the checking line would be some mash of Andersson, Bertuzzi, Tootoo, and Samuelsson (if can't part with him due to injury). This is not signing any additional free agents. The only way I see more Griffins coming up next season is if Holand can swing a trade involving multiple forwards for a top defenseman.
|35 weeks 5 days ago||Would have to check||
Would have to check Nyquist but Tatar is out of options and will either be on the Wings or traded to a team who can put him on their NHL roster. I don't think you can compare Nill in Dallas to Holland. Dallas was a .500 team and NEEDED to make substantial changes moving forward. Wings are retooling not rebuilding.
|35 weeks 5 days ago||Brunner||
If rumors are true the offered Brunner multiple deals. Seems like he wants a 5 year deal, and wings didn't like that. Also thought at age 27 his ceiling is about what he's already shown.

Look for a guy like Tootoo or Coliacovo to be amnestied. Also could see Samuelsson if he ever passes his physical.

I know most thought he was strictly a punter coming in but the same Sailer's Kicking ranked him the #2 Combo kicker when we came in as a walk-on. Does anyone know of his progress since coming onto campus? I know he used his redshirt last season, but is he still kicking or just a punter now?
Here is his Hello: Post and the link to the sailer's write up.

|38 weeks 5 days ago||Two flaws in your statement.||
Two flaws in your statement. When Valverde was re-signed he had more than one pitch (forkball, fastball). Also some of the best closers in MLB history had 1-2 pitches, Eckersley, Rivera, Gossage, Billy Wagner, etc. It's not like you are facing guys 2-3 times so if you have a dominante pitch (like Valverde forkball cerca 2011) you can be an elite closer.
|38 weeks 6 days ago||Agree on most points||
I agree on most points, especially the Papelbon comments (I actually think the number is $15-16 million per season).
As for Rondon, the walks situation still scares me. Even in AAA he seems to really struggle with runners on base. Also, he is a young guy who most likely needs to develop a secondary pitch to be an effective MLB pitcher. Now the question is do you let him do that development in AAA or bring him up now and use him in spacific situations where you can try and build confidence? Honestly, I don't know that there is a right answer for this.
|38 weeks 6 days ago||Rondon||
Granted it's limited in limited appearances but the guy has a 42.00 ERA and and 19.3 H/9. Yes he has been very good in AAA but sometimes guys just can't make that jump. I think he's relied on a 100mph fastball in the minors and at the major league level it is "very straight"
On a side note, watching on the Minnesota Twins broadcast tonight they seemed pretty confident spreading the rumor of Jonathan Papelbon to Tigers happening.

I'm sorry but playing Army every year a combined 37-117 since 2000 is hand-in-hand with playing a FCS opponent. I think we all can respect the Army team but they are about as competitive as top FCS teams.
|39 weeks 1 day ago||Tomas Tatar||
Tomas Tatar has emerged as a pure goal scorer this season. Even while Nyquist and Andersson were up with the Wings Tatar lead the AHL Playoffs in goals. He scored again tonight to bring his total to 13. At 22 I think he has a really high ceiling as a goal scorer at any level.
|39 weeks 2 days ago||Beasley silly||
Beasley silly foul picks up a yellow card late, which rules him OUT vs Honduras next week. This is a little worrisome due to the lack of depth on the back line.

I think moving to the Eastern Conference will open some Wings fans eyes. Having been to ACC in Toronto, Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Belle Center in Montreal, and First Niagara Center I honestly think the Wings will have the worst arena outside of Florida.
Best Arenas: Air Canada Center, and Staples in my travels.
|40 weeks 1 day ago||Early in Playoffs||
Yes early in the playoffs the Griffins were doing well, and I agree about Jurco, really like his game. But OKC had a 2-1 series advantage with 2 home games in games four and five when Nyquist and Andersson came down. The next two games were 4-0 and 3-0 Griffin wins. I really think OKC wasn't ready systems wise to deal with what the Griffins were able to do moving Jurco on a line with Nyquist and Andersson.
The DeKeyser add for the finals will be a big help, assuming he plays as well as he did in Detroit.
|40 weeks 1 day ago||Really only 2 players.||
Really only 2 players. Nyquist and Andersson. Now it could be argued that sending those players down really helped Jurco and Ferraro because OKC couldn't put their top D-pair to shut down them like they did early in the series.
