I grew up in Pennsylvania, have been to State College a dozen times, but yesterday was the my first gameday experience. My wife and I were wearing maize and blue and _every_ interaction we had with PSU fans was positive. There was grumbling about some PI calls (wtf, every call should go your way?), but fans will be fans. I had several Penn State fans tell me to crush Ohio State next week (of course, I was telling them we'd be rooting for them next week).
Ice Cream from the Creamery on campus is delicious, and we met the Glascow brothers' grandparents there! All in all, a fun trip.

|4 weeks 10 hours ago||Okay,||
people over 40 can have eyesight, video skills and judgement just as good as people under 40. Mike Pereira was born in 1950, so he's older than both of us. There should be some objective screening of replay officials which involves candidates not currently considered.
I would not qualify, because I could never be completely objective about college football teams.
|4 weeks 12 hours ago||The targeting rule has problems,||
and these problems should be addressed.
But there is another problem, the replay officials in the booth need an upgrade, too. Often these replay officials are older refs who can no longer run up and down the field. I not sure they've watched too many games on tv this century, or are comfortable with the technology. Get some neutral observers in their late 20s / early 30s; they don't need to be on the site of the game. Mike Pereira always seems to get the calls correct (meaning I agree with him) when consulting on Fox. It is possible.

it's great to be able to see every Michigan game in HD, and clearly there's no going back.
We had Bob Ufer on radio; in many ways that was better than a modern telecast with "neutral" announcers. If you had ever seen a game in Michigan Stadium, you could picture the action as Ufer described it: "Two tight ends and a balanced line, Huckelby deep, Davis close, Ricky Leach under center, the ball resting 18 yards in, from this, the western sideline."

|5 weeks 1 day ago||Visiting team effect?||
You can count on a certain number of opponent fans who either live in the area or choose to travel to Ann Arbor. Seattle is a long way to travel for a game, especially when you consider the cost of air travel in 1969. But the next week attendence for Missouri was 64,476, just under 15,000 more than for the Huskies.
It wasn't weather, high temperature at Detroit metro was 69 degrees, no precipitation.
Possibly band day, which was usually the 2nd home game of the season, IIRC. Perhaps the high school band members and their chaperones weren't counted?

|5 weeks 1 day ago||Season Tickets influence||
It would be interesting to see the season ticket sales numbers, and not just attendence. It was the demand for season tickets in the early 70s which ended Band Day; Canham couldn't withold 30,000 seats for high school bandsmen after Bo got things rolling.
Before 1970, I think the size of the stadium itself was a factor, tickets had been plentiful for 20 years. You could wait and see what the weather was like and drive to the stadium if you liked the matchup. Once tickets got tight, fans (no longer just students, faculty and alumni) began to plan ahead and made the committment season tickets. Canham and Schembechler changed the gameday experience, attendance-wise.
And Boones Farm was sooooo terrible, it might have been recycled wine.

What parent in their right mind would sign their son's LOI after seeing the video of Shane limping, then concussed, and still on the field?

I believe you can wager up to $1000 in Single Jeopardy and up to $2000 in Double Jeopardy; i.e. the maximum dollar amount for categories in that round.

... the daily double!

only 29 FBS teams are giving up 436+ yds per game.

you're probably correct, sadly.
Over time, Dantonio goes to the NFL and MSU returns to the mean. UM recovers it rightful place.
With Penn State and Nebraska in the B1G, and stronger Wiscpnsin and Iowa, it's highly unlikely that two teams will dominate the conference for a decade like the 1970s.

Play-by-play announcer Pam Mowins was okay (except for misidentifying the Michigan Union as "Union Hall"); Joey Galloway was flat-out terrible.

The smokenator ( link ) is a nifty way to use your kettle as a smoker. I use mine for ribs, chicken and turkey. Remove the smokenator and I'm back to grilling for steaks and chops.

MSU has not won a regular season game against a PAC-n opponent on the road since they beat Cal 19-0 in 1957. A win over Oregon would be huge. Conversely, Oregon's 2nd year coach has much riding on this game, the Ducks were a disappointment last year and losing at home as a double digit favorite will only add to the pressure.

Your story bring back my memories of watching last year's ND at UM game under dire circumstances; watching with my father-in-law, whose health was clearly in decline. In spite of tiredness, he watched and cheered as the wolverines had a spectacular first half, followed by an uneven second half but managed to secure a 41-30 victory with a final Drew Dileo TD catch. We talked casually about the plays and what they might mean to the team down the road. But the following weeks' game agaist Akron could not be watched, due to his worsening condidition and, in fact, he passed away during the 4th quarter of tnat barely won game.
The rest of these season found me looking back to the high point, the victory over ND and the companionship I'd lost. Go Blue, Saul, wherever you are.
|1 year 12 weeks ago||Agree,||
Gallon's cloaking-device assisted catch and run stands out as just one of many spectacular plays in the last 2:00 ofUTL I.

No big deal to be an underdog in South Bend.
