3 years 44 weeks ago One More Time: Fielding Yost Said

"What you remember as the Michigan Spirit is still throbbingly alive. This spirit is based upon a deathless loyalty to Michigan and all her ways; an enthusiam that makes it second nature for Michigan Men to spread the gospel of their university to the far corners of the earth, and a conviction that no where is there a better university than this Michigan of ours."

In The Big House, p. 359.

Not Bo. Yost was simply using a common phrase, not coining one.

3 years 44 weeks ago The "Man" thing

3 years 45 weeks ago I Can Take Care of the Problem

I think it would be best and I would be happiest if I were to assign all points. I know that I have the insight and knowlwedge to do the job perfectly. I feel that if a post is satisfactory to me, it will be satisfactory to all and when I feel a post sucks, it sucks. I have devised a system to score posts that, in my opinion, is perfect. It allows me to objectively consider grammar, spelling, and such as well as the logic of a post from a humanitarian perspective. I have applied my system to several threads here and, if I say so
myself, the results are outstanding. I have agreed completly with them. I know that I will be happiest knowing that I am posting to a board that keeps me and my wants as a primary goal and thus it will make you happy, too.

3 years 47 weeks ago No

They didn't compete in an NCAA championship and aren't a varsity team.

3 years 47 weeks ago They caught us

Earlier today Michigan had 23.5 points for W-golf. However, they were counting 11 sports so they dropped the lowest one and now are correctly counting 10 women's and 10 men's sports. I need to get a life, as I actually looked at M's results closely enough to notice this.

3 years 47 weeks ago The title of special teams' coach doesn't

fit on a college staff. What self-respecting, hormone laced, eighteen year old football player on his way to the NFL wants to be recruited by one? Kids expect to deal with their position coach.

3 years 47 weeks ago Michigan has

a bunch of endowed athletic scholarships.

http://www.mgoblue.com/clubs/article.aspx?id=28414

I also have read that the women's gymnastics building has an endowment and there may be others.

3 years 47 weeks ago My thoughts, too

I think the 500 million was the AD endowment. Any ideas what Michigan's AD endowment is?

"What you remember as the Michigan Spirit is still throbbingly alive. This spirit is based upon a deathless loyalty to Michigan and all her ways; an enthusiam that makes it second nature for Michigan men to spread the gospel of their university to the far corners of the earth, and a conviction that no where is there a better university than this Michigan of ours."

Robinson had a 1.1 million dollar year left on his contract with Syracuse. I would think that his Michigan salary would be deducted from whatever his buy-out from Syracuse is and that Michigan will adjust his salary next year.

3 years 48 weeks ago Michigan does it this way

"NCAA rules permit institutions to provide required course-related books to student-athletes authorized to receive a book loan as part of their athletics grant-in-aid. Big Ten rules require institutions to provide the use (e.g., loan) rather than the actual cost of required course-related books. Michigan policy requires student-athletes to return their books from the prior academic term before they may receive their book loan for a new term. Student-athletes who fail to return their books in a timely manner will incur a charge on their student account in the amount of the market value of the books that were not returned."

"On Oct. 1, 1927, Michigan played Ohio Wesleyan in the first game at Michigan Stadium. The game was a success as Michigan started the scoring on a 28-yard pass from Louis Gilbert to tight end Kip Taylor and prevailed easily, 33-0. The new stadium was dedicated three weeks later against Ohio State on Oct. 22, 1927."

4 years 31 weeks ago Nice post. Learning how to

lose (really, how to deal with a loss) is very, very difficult. Learning how to win, that is, deal with a victory, is hard enough; dealing with a loss is harder because society has rigged life so we experience a loss so seldom and have less practice.

rule concerning numbers except that each player on the field must have a unique number.   On offense, the five interior linemen must have numbers between 50 and 79.  Non-interior linemen (those eligible to catch a pass) cannot have these numbers.  Each offensive player on the field must have a unique number.  Everything else is simply convention.

4 years 37 weeks ago Or, for the Blue Hairs

This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say, "To-morrow is Saint Crispian."
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say, "These wounds I had on Crispian's day."
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words,
Harry the King, Bedford, and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered,
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

4 years 38 weeks ago If it is just sitting there as a shrine,

Bill Martin should see that it is emptied and redecorated.   No one will forget Bo, his name is on the building, there is a painting of him on the wall, and he made a lasting impression on millions of people.  Maybe I need more sensitivity training, but whenever I see preserved labs and offices I think the organization needs reality training.

4 years 38 weeks ago So it is a tie.

However,

2.  Red would call it a sweater, not a jersey.

Nice writing. The new digs have certainly perked-up the out- of-town contributions to this blog--a case of build it and they will come. The Winged "T" presently used in many high schools is no more than the single wing with a player under center. Pop Warner is alive and well in Northern Michigan.

4 years 40 weeks ago Ahhh, John Kolesar

He left Michigan with a year of eligibility left to enter Harvard Law.  Bo said he had to go to Harvard because Michigan Law wouldn't admit him.  He was a player.  When asked why he was leaving early, he basicly said, "Been there, done that.  Time to move on."  I really enjoyed watching him.
