I'm not sure about that. One of my law school professors who is a friend of MSC but also a straight-shooter was very adament in his belief that she was not intoxicated. He explained that she does not drink very much when dealing with big-wig donors (for obvious reasons), and that was a big fundraising night. Also, apparently it is VERY difficult to speak normally when the stadium speakers are pounding you with the sound of your own voice. Usually they tell people who try to block that out, but apparently nobody gave MSC that warning.
As for the season.....no idea, since I'm only a recent Michigan fan. I WILL say that none of my teams has ever seen anything this bad.

As an Eagles fan, I have read A LOT about Chip Kelly, and everything I read leads me to believe that there is NO WAY he takes a college job again for the near future.
For one, he has complete control in Philadelphia. The roster is his to shape as he wishes (ex. DeSean getting cut), with the rest of the Eagles' organization helping him to execute his plan. Coaches work their entire lives for that amount of power.
Second, I've read that he doesn't like recruiting. What he enjoys about football is scheming, watching film, etc. Running around the country to convince kids that they should play for him was an aspect of the college scene that he liked the least.
Third, he just got the Philadelphia. There's no way he is jumping so quickly for a college situation that is precarious at best.
It just isn't happening.

Galloway's comments that a coach doesn't evaluate head injuries COMPLETELY misses the point. The head coach is supposed to be in charge. He is supposed to be watching his players (teenagers who have committed 4-5 years of their lives to him) and taking care of them. Once he saw Morris stumbling around and nearly collapsing, he should have called a timeout and pulled Morris. Morris may be "tough," but he's a KID. Then Hoke could have gotten him to medical personnel who could evaluate him.

|2 years 38 weeks ago||I'm not talking about||
I'm not talking about incarceration. Liberty is a fundamental right and is protected by the whole "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard.
What we are talking about, though is not criminal. And it's a HUGE difference. We let O.J. Simpson off the hook under the "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard (I know it's a loaded example, but bear with me), but he didn't get off scot-free. He was later found guilty in civil court.
We should absolutely conform to the highest standard possible before taking away a person's freedom, but there's no reason that a person should be legally immune from all consequences for his/her actions just because you can't prove they did it with 100% certainty.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||That likely wouldn't happen,||
That likely wouldn't happen, though, because the negative publicity from taking such action would be incredible.
And what do you mean by "straying" from the legal system? I'm asking sincerely.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||Are you OK with letting||
Are you OK with letting people get off scot-free who did do it?
Obviously the answer to both questions is "no" and misses the point.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||It's funny you say that,||
It's funny you say that, because an "unreasonable invasion of privacy" is dependent on having a "reasonable expectation of privacy." With a private school (like Duke), there's essentially no such thing, since they aren't subject to the constitution. But with a public school like Michigan, any court will tell you that you have little to no expectation of privacy when using THEIR lockers (which is what students at Michigan do).
All of this is missing the real issue, though, that sexual assault cases are routinely mishandled and swept under the rug by universities in an attempt to keep their statistics down. And now a judge is preventing a university from taking action when it actually chooses to do something about the problem. Perhaps this individual kid was not guilty, but the instances of unpunished rapists far outnumber the instances of falsely accused innocents.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||I actually think universities||
I actually think universities are way too lax in their handling of sexual assault cases. The universities don't want to investigate sexual assault cases because it adds to their statistics. And in fact, the DOJ is currently investigating 55 different colleges for mishandling sexual assault cases:
Additionally, there's the Brendan Gibbons situation. What I think many don't realize, though, is that the Central Student Government's report wasn't limited to Gibbons, but to widespread issues involving sexual assault reports by Michigan students:
I have a friend who helped in the investigation (they were interviewed by DOJ officials) after the school tried to sweep their case under the rug.
The idea that a judge would block an expulsion after the school determined that there was reason to believe that a student committed sexual misconduct is baffling to me. Unless Duke affords its students substantial contractual rights (usually such rights are non-binding on the school to the best of my knowledge), this seems like a bad ruling.
Also, this IS NOT a criminal investigation and students do not have a right to attend a specific school, so saying that the school shouldn't be qualified to conduct sexual assault investigations seems misguided to me.

I would say that the football team's failures should only be one factor in deciding whether or not to buy a copy. Michigan fans are lucky to have a very intelligent group of people producing our yearly preview, and the product that they produce is well worth $15.
In other words, one of the big reasons to buy the preview is to be fully educated about this year's team, and HTTV provides that value in leaps and bounds. I don't think I have ever seen a team-dedicated preview on par with what Brian and the gang produce.

Best comparison in my opinion is the Pistons drafting Darko Milicic in a year where LeBron, Wade, Bosh, and Melo all went Top Five, and all but LeBron were available (Cavs picked #1 AGAIN). The talented Pistons were given a gift with that pick and managed to miss on three perennial All-Stars -- choosing instead to draft a big man with big question marks.
Fortunately for the Cavs and Bennett, there wasn't enough talent in last year's draft to make the comparison more apt.

While rankings are certainly not god, I love it when our guys get recognition. It has a few huge benefits:
-1) Recruits DO look at the rankings, and seeing that Michigan is pulling great players makes them more likely to take a serious look at us.
-2) With stars/rankings come invitations to camps and events, which allows the players to recruit other guys of similar talent. It also gives us a snapshot of how they look against good competition.
-3) Related to #1, I think that recruits give a little extra oomph of motivation to raise their own rankings, which makes them work harder. Obviously they should already have good work ethics, but having more motivation is never bad.
-4) It's more fun to look at rankings and their changes than do bar review study (that's personal to me).

Anybody who takes offense to this video needs to take a chill pill. OBVIOUSLY there are a lot of white basketball players who are very good, but there's a reason that there's a well known movie called "White Men Can't Jump." It's a funny stereotype just like the overenthusiastic sports fans (Chris Farley and the Bears), the uptight church lady (Dana Carvey), and the ridiculous boy band (Lonely Island). Obviously this won't be a running joke because there's only so much you can do with it, but it's still funny.
EDIT: Also I love the bit about the white guy who "takes charges," and you can clearly see the ref in the background indictating that it's a blocking foul.

I would disagree. There are several factors to be considered other than just employment statistics. And I would argue that while employment may be very, very important, the way it is calculated for U.S. News purposes is flawed, and therefore it's importance to the rankings is appropriately discounted. What counts as "post-graduate" employment for a law student is a very manipulable concept, and Michigan MAY be at a disadvantage in how it keeps track of the statistic due to the scrutiny it receives as a public university.

|2 years 51 weeks ago||I think you could make a||
I think you could make a solid argument for Jordan Morgan. As was said in the JMo appreciation thread, he's a guy who wasn't supposed to get an offer, and yet has played a key role in Michigan basketball's return to prominence. Novak left before the program really hit its stride, and Burke grew what was already a growing wave to ridiculous levels. However, Morgan embodies a bit of each. He helped to start the wave, and is now making contributions WAY above his recruiting profile.
|2 years 51 weeks ago||What are you basing that||
What are you basing that assumption on? And do you have any legal background? Because "canned language" can be a scary proposition if a multi-billion dollar organization is the one that is producing the "canned language." I am taking Employment Law right now and, while most contracts are not on par with what Suh will be getting, I have no doubt that there is legalese and complicated legal precedent associated with NFL contracts that could spell the difference between a great contract and an awful contract for Suh.
For instance (and this won't be relevant to Suh's deal), did you know that a contract providing for "employment for life" is equivalent to "I can fire you at any time without repercussion"?
|2 years 51 weeks ago||As a law student who has||
As a law student who has taken a basic Contracts course, this seems like a terrible idea. NFL contracts are not just a matter of "I will pay you X amount for Y years." The legal field is a mess of jargon, disclaimers, and words that may or may not mean what you think they mean. Unless Suh has been studying NFL contracts since he made it to the NFL, this probably won't work out well. There is a reason that agents get a significant slice of the pie when contracts are signed -- their expertise is very valuable and can spell the difference between a fair contract and one that is "fair" according to an NFL organization's team of lawyers.

While he makes a bone-headed play every once in awhile (see the over-and-back tonight), Morgan has been playing exceptionally well. He has always been a plus-defender in the low-post, and now he has become a decent rebounder and decent finisher. For a guy who, as you said, was supposed to be third-string, he is now instrumental to our ability to function post-McGary.
Additionally, he would be even more valuable if B1G refs hadn't decided to stop calling charges. It seems like you have to camp out overnight to get a charge these days. That was Morgan's forte, and it's surprising that he is never in foul trouble despite still trying to take charges.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that he's also become very, very good in the pick and roll. He is now a solid contributor in all aspects of the game.

Why do you think he will be a fringe starter or 6th man his entire career? He did very well in playing Scottie to Trey's Jordan here at Michigan. As a short follow-up, I would also point out that Michigan is not just the football team. The fact that we have the winningest program in CFB history is just a side benefit.
Michigan is about all-around excellence. While some schools may win football national championships or basketball national championships more consistently, we compete in nearly every sport, every academic field, and every profession. Being a Michigan Man (or Woman) is about always striving for greatness.
I would not be here if Michigan was just about sports. The reason I'm here is because the law school absolutely blew me away when I came to visit. If prospective law students had a 247 profile, my Crystal Ball would have been 100% to other schools, and it would not have been speculation.
I will always carry my Michigan degree with immense pride no matter how our football team finishes. And when an employer looks at my resume, they will see a name that reflects excellence, hunger for learning, and a community that demands the best from the brightest minds in the nation.
EDIT: Ok, not so short. What can I say? I am passionate about my school.

|3 years 13 weeks ago||As somebody who had no||
As somebody who had no affinity to either state or school growing up, here are my 2 cents...
First, Ohio IS NOT the same as Michigan. I took a roadtrip to Ohio for community service reasons in high school. Went in with no preconceptions about the state because, frankly, nobody on the East Coast gives a damn about the Midwest. My only knowledge of the two schools was a video that they played endlessly at my job (Best Buy) of the App. St. upset. I did not care at all and thought it was funny.
Travelling throughout the state of Ohio, I can safely say that I HATED it. It was all flat, the people there were OK, but bleh, and Cleveland was empty. I was completely underwhelmed by everything I encountered. The only redeeming feature I found was the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Even Cedar Point (which the article takes time to focus on) was kinda shitty. There are a lot of roller coasters, but nothing else. The roller coasters were OK, but I'll take Dorney Park or Six Flags over Cedar Point any day. Cedar Point is iconic, but not that great of a park.
Michigan, on the other hand, has blown me away. I had no desire to go to the Midwest for law school and had decided on Early Decision to George Washington (I got in regular) or Georgetown. Those were my two schools and I visited other schools just because they paid for my trips (UCLA, Boston U, Alabama, etc.). Michigan didn't pay for my trip, but because they were the highest ranked school to accept me, I decided to check it out....knowing that I had already told Georgetown that I would attend if admitted.
Needless to say, Michigan DID blow me away. We talk about how we have a chance with football recruits if we get them on campus....I say that confidently because that is EXACTLY what happened with me. Michigan is an elite institution that is confident about what it brings to the table, but isn't filled with snobs (at least by East Coast standards). We are populated by people who are incredibly intelligent, know that they are intelligent, and still act like (relatively) normal humans.
Ann Arbor, meanwhile, has seduced every member of my family who has visited. When I moved in, my Mom flew in ahead of my Father and I (we were responsible for bringing my "stuff"). My Dad and I got stuck in traffic and called my Mom to let her know. Her reaction was, "don't worry about it. I'm fine here. In fact, you two stay in Pennsylvania, I'll just live here." Same reaction from all of my friends (including my best friend from NYC, who is the ULTIMATE New York snob, but yet still was OK with Ann Arbor....possibly the biggest compliment of all).
Then you have the fact that Michigan is competitive in a multitude of sports (nearly challenging Stanford for the Director's Cup), has elite graduate institutions in nearly every area of study, and continuously graduates leaders who go on to kick ass in all parts of the country, and to compare the two is just....silly.
