|38 weeks 21 hours ago||Love this||
I haven't commented in more than a year, but I had to say something after reading this post. Alex, this post about Spike is full of great writing. For example, I loved the following:
That’s it right there. That’s every suburban kid in every flyover state who rubs his hands together to keep them warm, who navigates the patches of ice in the driveway, who dribbles that ball outside, by himself, as he counts 5, 4, 3, 2… and throws the ball at the hoop as he yells 1. Spike was the unheralded recruit who managed to find his way to a major program, managed to find his way onto the floor at the freakin’ Georgia Dome, and just decided to go for it* instead of simply “managing” the game.
I'm looking forward to reading more of your posts. It's writing like this that separates this blog from other sports blogs. Keep up the good work.

|2 years 7 weeks ago||Not saying that at all||
I'm just saying this specific attempt at a joke is not funny. It's not clever either.
Offensive jokes can be funny. I like offensive humor, as long it is clever.
|2 years 7 weeks ago||Jokes...||
are also meant to be funny. Saying the kid is going to get a tumor again and die anyway is not funny.
|2 years 7 weeks ago||Beat Michigan!||
The only time I will ever say this.
Someone needs to make this kid a maize and blue shirt that says something like "Beat Michigan! Go Grant! M CLUB (or UM) SUPPORTS YOU!"
|2 years 11 weeks ago||Annapolis||
Beautiful town, and I love the campus. There is a great view of the USNA from across the Severn. There's a WWII memorial across the bridge that is pretty impressive in its own right. The view of the USNA from the memorial is stunning.
Also, if you ever have a chance, try to visit during commisioning week (their graduation week). They really spruce everything up (new coats of paint, etc.), and the spring weather is usually amazing. Plus, there is a lot of excitement as the midshipmen learn what they will be doing (subs, marines, seals, etc.).
As for Annapolis, there are good restaurants and some decent nightlife. I would recommend trying to get out on a boat on the Chesapeake and Severn River. There are various cruises that will take you around the area.
I think I just talked myself into taking a trip out there one of these weekends while the weather is nice.
With that said, Ann Arbor is better, but Annapolis is a close 2nd to me.

|2 years 12 weeks ago||Hoke||
I thought he was just supposed to throw up his hands and say, "I quit" whenever Urban offered a kid Hoke was recruiting.
I guess the MSM should start giving Hoke some credit.

Lou and Jordan.
|2 years 13 weeks ago||Plus||
Denard was injured for a good part of the season (although Nebraska might have been a win if Devin was ready).
Football is still a game that is won and lost in the trenches, and Hoke's D-line and O-line recruiting has been amazing.
|2 years 13 weeks ago||I was one of the many highly skeptical ones||
After Carr's last few years (minus 06) and Rich Rod, it seemed like an underwhelming hire. The first press conference sold me though. My God, that was a brilliant press conference! Everything since has kept me sold.
Hoke loves Michigan. He loves the kids. He wants to win. He doesn't make excuses. He doesn't punt every time he has a 4th and inches with the lead. He isn't flashy, but I bet he commands a living room when he recruits. AND, he seems to do all of this while remaining humble. Hoke is the threat, Coach Dantonio...Hoke is the threat!
Finally, he's a defensive-minded coach. I only like high scoring games when it's Michigan winning 56-7. I am part of a possibly dying breed that loves a 9-7 game, as long as it's because of great defenses and not incompetent offenses.
Super psyched about Hoke's recruiting. Go Blue!
|2 years 13 weeks ago||A Heisman, NC, 3 straight against Ohio, MSU interception, etc.||
Beat that! Seriously, please beat that (or at least lead the team to the NC).
I am excited about this kid. He wants to be better than Woodson and isn't too shy to say it.
Also, Hoke is the man.
|2 years 13 weeks ago||A question||
Of the people posting on this thread, who rowed for Michigan? If not Michigan, where did you row?
Rowing for Michigan was an amazing experience for me.
|2 years 13 weeks ago||Sam Webb||
Just retweeted Paramus Catholic's tweet that Peppers will attend Michigan.
|2 years 13 weeks ago||I agree that Vails was stronger than the ECAC...||
...which is why it was nice to see them rebound and perform like they did today.
|2 years 13 weeks ago||To be fair||
If Michigan had varsity status and had rosters with athletes from around the country and the world like this
they would be able to compete with the Olympic development level crews that the Ivies and Pac 12 schools put out on a regular basis. Also, it would be helpful if rowers didn't have to pay hundreds of dollars in dues and engage in fundraisers just to compete. As a former M rower, varsity status would be bittersweet because there is something special about the atmosphere at Michigan that would disappear, or change significantly, if they started recruiting and granted scholarships. With that said, I would still love to see it happen.
As for the Dad Vail regatta this year, they were the only crew in the final that was competing the next day at the ECAC championship and they vindicated themselves by beating two teams today at ACRA that beat them at Vails. Plus, Coach Hartsuff tailors his training plan to peak at ACRA, and he clearly did his job this year.
Finally, Michigan may have had faster crews in the past, but the level of competition at the club level is much stronger than it was 6 years ago. Thus, their streak is even more impressive because everyone else is getting faster by following Michigan's (and UVA's) blueprint for having a successful club program.
|2 years 13 weeks ago||M softball fever. Catch It!||
Exciting game! Just hang on. Three outs away from advancing.
I would love to see Coach Hutchins get one more NCAA championship.
|2 years 13 weeks ago||Steve Smith||
|2 years 13 weeks ago||Tough question||
Harbaugh was my childhood hero. Ricky Leach is the first Michigan player whose name I knew. Elvis had the best name. Griese led the team to the NC. Brady was underrated and has proved that. Denard was the most electric, and you have to love him attending other M sporting events on a regular basis.
After those six, I still enjoyed the careers of Henne, Wangler, Collins and even Navarre.
The best thing about this question is the reminder that we have been pretty blessed as fans when it comes to QBs. I hope Devin Gardner is part of the discussion in a year or two.
If you held a gun to my head right now, I'd go with Griese because of the 97 season and the 96 upset of OSU. If you held a gun to my head tomorrow, I might go with someone else.
|2 years 14 weeks ago||Awesome interview, Heiko||
Thank you for writing this.
And thanks to Coach Borges for agreeing to the interview.
|2 years 14 weeks ago||An explanation||
Each rowing team has several boats. The premier boat is the Varsity 8 (so 8 rowers, plus a coxswain who steers and motivates the crew).
So most teams have a Varsity 8 and a Second Varsity 8 (sometimes called a JV8). These are the top two boats. Then they have fours (four rowers per boat). They have a first and second 4.
Finally, there are the freshman boats...which are broken down the same way with the first Freshman 8 being the best.
Each race is assigned a certain # of possible points for first place through last. The Varsity 8 races are worth the most points and the fours are worth less. Think of how they score swimming and track and field based on total points for multiple events.
The OP didnt use the most clear language (but the OP just borrowed the horrible shorhand used in the Big Ten results pdf). Michigan winning the 0 II Varsity Fours F1 means the Michigan one the Grand Final (F1, first final), in the 2nd Varsity four event. So Michigan won that event, and is B1G champ in that event. OSU won the most points, and events, so they are the overall team B1G champ.
|2 years 14 weeks ago||Some other rowing info||
I also was going to point out that there are only 3 teams Michigan has not beaten.
Michigan men's rowing has competed with the top varsity programs for the last 10-15 years. The coaches are outstanding. They take mostly walkons who played different sports in high school, and turn them into real collegiate athletes. The team has produced three separate Olympians, one each at the last 3 Olympics. The team placed in the top 10 a few times at IRA before the varsity programs decided that they could not take losing to Michigan and a couple of the other top clubs. Michigan's varsity 8 finished in the top 10 to 12 a few times, and team finished in the top 7 or 8 a few times as well (if my memory serves me correctly). For those of you that don't know, the Varsity 8 is the premier event in rowing (and it's called the varsity 8 even at club programs), but rowing also has a team championship based on point totals for different events (kind of like swimming or track). They even had a freshman 8 finish second in the country about 10 years ago. In other words, they beat every varsity program's freshman boat at the IRA, except one.
I do not know if Michigan is next in line for varsity status (although they should be in my biased opinion as a former rower). There are a lot of factors to be considered, and who knows when or if the school will add more sports. Plus, the school would have to add another women's team if men's rowing were added due to Title IX issues.
Finally, for those of you who know nothing about rowing, it is the first intercolliage sport, and some of the first collegiate football games were opening acts for rowing races. I would highly recommend reading The Shell Game by Stephen Kiesling for an understanding of the history of collegiate athletics and college rowing (specifically the Harvard-Yale race). Also, Pulitzer Prize winning author David Halberstam wrote a great book called The Amateurs that follows the 84 Olymic team.

|2 years 15 weeks ago||Conspiracy theory||
That schedule makes it seem like Mr. Brandon knew this was coming.
|2 years 15 weeks ago||I agree||
I previously have advocated Brandon pulling the same move on them before this year's game because of the bush league stunt they pulled last year. Pay them whatever penalty there is for cancelling the game. I'm sure a marquee home game would make up for it.
|2 years 15 weeks ago||Farley sums it up|
|2 years 15 weeks ago||I agree with dumping ND in 2014||

BUT, they will call us chicken...and I really don't give a shit.
|2 years 15 weeks ago||Dr. Explosion||
I live out of state too, but I usually try to make it back for the MSU, OSU or ND game. In 2014, my best choice is PSU. No offense to them, but PSU just doesn't do it for me like our big 3 rivals.
This hurts all fans, not just season ticket holders.
|2 years 15 weeks ago||I didn't even think of the students when I saw this schedule||
AND neither did the B1G...then again, maybe they were only thinking of the MSU students.
Maybe they should stop this scheduling shit show if they want students to stay interested in college football. Just a thought.
|2 years 15 weeks ago||The B1G||
Honoring nothing and building meaningless footprints.
Michigan should always play MSU and OSU home games on alternating years. This makes no sense and is a big F you to M fans.
I am so happy that we lose Iowa, Wisconsin, etc. on a regular basis to play MD and Rutgers every year and to not see MSU or OSU at home every other year.
At this point, let's just join the fucking ACC with ND.
|2 years 15 weeks ago||MD and NJ also top cursing states||
Is this the hidden agenda behind the B1G's expansion?
|2 years 15 weeks ago||I hope no one...||
calls Marty McFly chicken.
|2 years 15 weeks ago||If I recall correctly||
When the series resumed in the 70s, the plan was for the Michigan v. ND game to be the first game of the season for both teams. However, ND started scheduling a game before the UM game to work out the first-game kinks. Michigan then started doing the same, so the game eventually became the second or third game for each team.
|2 years 15 weeks ago||A2 is such a dump||
That's why it's on so many "best of" lists. Also, A2 actually has a decent job market.
Ugly girls? Yes, Michigan is not Arizona State, but there are plenty of attractive girls. The douches who make comments about ugly UofM girls probably wouldn't have a chance with an attractive girl who is also intelligent.

|2 years 16 weeks ago||You're welcome||
The beauty of radio was the necessity for colorful and descriptive language. Ufer, Harwell and the other radio greats had the task of making the game come alive in their listeners minds. They didn't used canned terms like "trickeration"...they made their broadcasts their own.
If you like Harwell on baseball, here's Ufer on college football (first 4 minutes of this clip):
I would love it if ABC/ESPN used this as an intro to a Michigan game some day, but 4 minutes without an ad might be too much to ask. Some of it may be a little dated, like the reference to women's figures, but that's part of it's beauty.
|2 years 16 weeks ago||Wrote it in 55||

I'm not sure when this one was recorded though.
|2 years 16 weeks ago||Ernie Harwell||
I remember summer vacations in the UP and picking up his broadcasts of Tiger games, or driving around Metro Detroit with the game on, or sitting in Michigan Stadium in September watching a football game while listening to Ernie on WJR. Talk about a legend.
College football is my favorite sport, but Ernie Harwell's "Baseball" always makes the room a little dustry. I am too computer illiterate to embed, so here's a link:
|2 years 16 weeks ago||Totally different, yet beautiful in their own way||
Keith Jackson's voice was golden. His understated excitement is part of what made him great. One of my biggest gripes with Musberger is that he acts like every play is the biggest play ever, instead of just announcing the game. Keith Jackson just told it how it was.
I only had Ufer around for my early years as a UM fan, but his excitement and love for Michigan is what made him great. He was a homer, but I think he was respected outside of UM (maybe some of the older guys know more about this).
To answer your question, I would prefer Keith Jackson for any non-Michigan game, but Ufer for a Michigan game.
Keith Jackson also called a lot of sports outside of football and did an amazing job with those sports as well.
|2 years 16 weeks ago||100% increase||
Brandon is going to use that as an excuse for his ticket increases.
"Well at least I didn't raise ticket prices 100% like Don Canham did in '75!"
|2 years 16 weeks ago||Luckily, somewhere between 125 and 150ish||
I was lucky enough to have a dad with season tickets as a kid and went to almost every home game growing up, and then had student tickets for 5 years. I actually did the math on this, and the only reason for the range is that I do not know how many home games I went to each season before I was 8. When I turned 8, I went to pretty much every home game until after I graduated from U of M.
My favorite season was 97. I had just graduated from UofM and went to every home game, except for the Minnesota game. I also went up to MSU and witnessed the greatest interception ever. I topped it off with the only bowl game I have ever attended...kind of a good choice for a first bowl game. 97 was also the last season I attended a majority of the home games since I unfortuntatley have lived on the East Coast since then and have only made it back for 1 or 2 games a year.
As for favorite section, the student section was fun back in my day, but section 8 is where my dad has had season tickets for years, so it's my favorite place for nostalgic reasons.
Finally, I have only been to three road venues, plus one Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl was by far the best experience. Beautiful place to watch a game. I also have been to MSU, PSU and ND. ND is a nice stadium, but it's in the middle on nowhere. PSU was okay. The fans were actually nice, but I was there for victories in 93 and 99. Spartan Stadium is a concrete monstrosity.

|2 years 17 weeks ago||Agreed||
I called her an idiot in a comment above. I do not think she's an idiot for being raped or for carrying the emotional scars of being raped. She's probably an intelligent woman, but her letter is idiotic on several levels. One, as I stated above, a university's decision to change an athetic department's logo is in no way related to rape. Two, she attacks the university for low APRs and a few criminal incidents involving athletes and assumes that the university is doing nothing about its problems because it created a new husky logo. Three, she is projecting her horrible experience onto all of the male athletes in the athletic department.
I was involved in intercollegiate athletics as a coach of an Olympic/non-revenue sport years ago. I coached men and women. Most of the young men I coached were wonderful young men who would not tolerate a rapist on their team. Although my sport was not an "agressive" sport, some of these young men played "aggressive" sports like football, basketball or hockey in high school and some did not. I did not look at some of my athletes and think, "Look at those potential rapists over there who played football growing up." That would be a generalization, and thus wrong.
Blanket generalizations about any group (athletes, Christians, Jews, Muslims, blacks, whites, etc.) are unproductive and harmful towards members of those groups. See Duke lacrosse.
Also, my background as a prosecutor has showed me that rapists and abusers come from a wide variety of backgrounds. The only thing they have in common is that they are pathetic losers.
If the university covered up this young woman's rape, then that is a huge problem that she should publicly speak out against. However, there are better ways than writing an article filled with innuendo about a husky logo. Regardless, the people who are threatening her are the biggest idiots here.
|2 years 17 weeks ago||Some perspective||
I am a prosecutor, and I exclusively prosecuted domestic violence cases for a couple years. Violence towards women is a serious problem that is often ignored in our society. Rape victims are ostracized and often are judged more harshly than defendants at trial. Domestic abusers control their victims by threatening to take away or harm their kids. Many, if not most, homicides are the result of domestic violence.
I could go on, but my point is that a fucking new husky logo is not the problem. This woman is an idiot.

THANK YOU for this.
I swear I did not realize this existed (if I did, I would have noted that this movie deserves more than 4.8 stars out of ten on imdb), except maybe on a subconcious level. I originally pictured just the Rock in this role, but then was trying to think of someone else who makes ridiculous movies. Please don't tell me there are also scenes with makeup and Martin Lawrence singing with the girls.
Hollywood is a beautiful place because the suits in Hollywood predicted the fall and redemption of Mike Rice 8 years ago. Amazing.
Someone needs to photoshop Mike Rice into this movie poster btw.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Movie plot||
This sounds like the plot of a cheesy feel-good comedy starring The Rock or Martin Lawrence. Coach needs anger management. Coach volunteers with preteen girls. Mean coach makes them cry at first, but the girls make him realize that he's a softy at heart. There is definitely a scene where they put makeup on him and one where the coach and girls all sing a girly song together...maybe something like a Katy Perry cover of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.
If Hollywood makes this movie, I'm getting a cut.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Horrible||

|2 years 20 weeks ago||I've seen some crazy shit on the internet||
But Burke transferring to Penn State might just be the craziest. Wow.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Your dad sounds a lot like mine||
My dad was at UM from 56-60...some pretty bad sports years by Michigan standards. He was a young kid during the 47-48 national championships. He never lost hope that they would reach the mountaintop again. He was in Pasadena for the 98 game (I was too but was sitting with friends), and I'm so happy he was able to experience it.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||I do not live in MI anymore||
I also work with several Buckeye and Penn State grads and recently worked with an obnoxious Florida/SEC fan.
Losing definitely hurts more when you have to hear about it all day.
OSU fans really shouldn't talk. At least Michigan beat a Florida team in this tournament.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||What more could I ask?||
Am I the only fan who is disappointed our team lost last night? Am I the only fan who wants more than 2 national championships in the two major sports since 1948? Is it such a crime to be honest about the agony of watching another team come up just short?
Nowhere have I been critical of this team's effort. I love this team's chemistry. The photo of Trey Burke dejected and being pelted by streamers breaks my heart. I am proud of them and might be more proud of them than the 89 team. That doesn't mean it doesn't suck to think about what might have been.
But, life goes on, which was kind of the point of the last few sentences of my post.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||The Team The Team The Team||
The one thing that has impressed me most about this team is that they truly were a team. Vogrich went from starter to garbage time player, yet he still jumped up and down and played air cello during every big play. Morgan went from season long starter to a few minutes per game, but he hustled his ass off to prevent Johnson from getting to the bucket against KU and to take the game-winning charge against Syracuse.
There was a story about this year's five freshmen beating the upperclassmen in an early scrimmage. The best part about that story was that the upperclassmen were excited about the new talent on the team. Some of them lost the chance for playing time and others lost actual playing time. They might have been pissed off behind closed doors, but they didn't let their personal disappointment become a cancer.
The seniors deserve a lot of credit for this magical run...even if they did little on the court. Burke and the five freshmen deserve credit for respecting the experience of those who had been on the team longer.
This was my favorite Michigan basketball team because of their selflessness. The Syracuse box score was the most beautiful reflection of team basketball I have seen. The top 5 to 7 scorers were all between 7 and 11 points. Everyone stepped up and made plays against that zone.
I hope Beilein can foster this chemistry on future Wolverine teams. I hope the underclassmen who stay remember the leadership of these seniors (and do not forget Novak and Stu).
|2 years 20 weeks ago||And Next Year||
The Pistons can get Trey in the first round.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Not basketball||
But Jim Joyce did the right thing after screwing up a perfect game.
I cannot think of anyone else off the top of my head though.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Neither would I want to be fan of those schools||
I also would not want to be a fan of the schools mentioned in my post.
And of course losing is an integral part of sports, maybe even more so than winning, which is why it's okay to focus on the pain of losing a close game. At the same time, it is important to retain the hope of a six year-old, and it's okay to want more than second place while still remaining proud of your team.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Of course||
I am happy about this run, but it still hurts to see another Michigan team come up just short. This team fought so hard for each other, and I wish they could hang a NC banner in the fall.
I saw someone mention on a post game thread how losses like this actually hurt more as you get older. I agree with that sentiment because 40 years of near misses makes the next near miss just a little more painful. It's a lot easier to believe in next year when you are 22 than it is when you are 39.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Holy shot||

|2 years 20 weeks ago||Refs took McGary and Burke||
Out of the game. Louisville should have had 3 guys foul out, but the refs let them get away with A&B's all game long. If Louisville won by 10 or more, I would accept them as the better team. Our team played their hearts out and deserved better.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Because the refs...||
were in charge of the confetti button, and they fucked up that call too.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Fuck||
Is the word that keeps repeating itself in my mind. Fuck, if the refs give us back 4 points (the goaltend that was not called and taking away Burke's clean block), maybe M pulls it out. Fuck, why can't we hit FTs? Fuck, why is Burke called for breathing on Louisville when two of their starters and Hancock should have fouled out? Fuck, why was Hancock so damn open so many times? Fuck, fuck, fuck!
I am proud of this team, but this fucking hurts.

|2 years 20 weeks ago||I've had a bad feeling about every game||
But I have little hope for this one.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Fandango?||
Seriously though, "proud" for me too. So proud of this team because they are a true team. There could be infighting due to lost playing time and competition for headlines, but they just want to win.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||There is a game tonight||
That can do a lot more for M basketball than a reunion of the fab 5.
I believe in redemption and hope and believe Webber can become part of the M family again. However, his attendance at the game isn't going to fix anything that this year's team cannot fix with a win, other than some personal relationships.
Go Blue! Beat Louisville!
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Also||
I am not questioning Jalen's love for Michigan. He clearly loves the school.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Everyone can neg me||
for having a different opinion and questioning Jalen's motives, but he has been pushing for this nonstop all year. He may say it is not about him, but this clearly is very personal to him.
If Webber wants to show, fine. If not, fine. I was a student at U of M when the fab 5 was there. I loved them then and would be happy to see them support this team any way they choose (and I am not saying they do not support them).
The Fab 5 are an important part of M basketball's history, but M basketball is not defined solely by the fab 5.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||This year's team||
That's all we should care about right now. The fab five had their time. Why does Jalen need to keep making this about him? I don't see the 89 team trying to steal the spotlight.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Louisville has mismatches at every position||
In other words, I like our odds.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||THE TEAM THE TEAM THE TEAM||
Just beat the 2-3 zone.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Free throws||
|2 years 20 weeks ago||I'm effing nervous||
Why do I do this to myself?
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Funny||
Guess I could have worded that better.
Let's hope Syracuse, Louisville and Wichita State are content tonight.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Keith Jackson||
Keith Jackson in his prime could make any sport fun to watch.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Yep||
But Bobby Hurley's hair is beautiful, AND it's a win over Duke.
This Michigan team was talented. They really should have been better than they were.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Congrats!||
Baby Wolverines are lots of fun.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Or did I reverse jinx it?||
I'm so confused.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Another jinx||
Never change the banner during a tournament run.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||PR stunt||
This article is a PR stunt by the agents named in the article. They are just getting themselves some free advertising by having someone leak this as a "news" story.
This article is not telling us anything that we don't suspect about Burke, and it wouldn't be a complete surprise if THJ left too.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Burke should go||
Unless he really, really wants to stay.
THJ should go only if he has good info about being drafted in the first round.
I just hope each one makes the right decision for himself.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||If he quickly shoots out a Wichita State preview||
Then we will be okay. Right?
Somebody please tell me this is right?
|2 years 21 weeks ago||WE ARE DOOMED!||
And so is Louisville.
Wichita State v. Syracuse for the National Championship because of this jinx.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Great!||
Now Kwame is going to ask for bond so that he can attend the Final 4 with his family.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Putting aside whether Webber should be forgiven or not||
I would not like to see them show up in ATL because this Final 4 belongs to the current team, not the Fab 5. If a reunion happens at an M game, there is a better time and place for it.
Just one man's opinion.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||An apology||
I often go on other threads and tell people to be nice and to chill out, so I apologize for not following my own advice. I wasn't trying to attack you, but I was trying to point out the insanity that was yesterday. I honestly wanted to know if people thought various OPs (not just you) were being serious yesterday when they were posting content that was still visible on the front page. Yesterday was a rare day for mgoblog, and I could have used a much better choice of words to point that out.
Also, I probably could have made my point without the bitchy comments about Mitch McGary and Michigan being a top 10 dream school, and I apologize for that as well.
Finally, looking back on it, your thread does point out that Pitino was actually hired, instead of just being an expected hire. I guess you did not violate the posting rules.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||This is the third or fourth time today||
...that someone has posted something that has already, and very recently, been posted on the board. Are these people being serious?
Has anyone heard that Michigan is Top 10 Dream School and that Hoke would love McGary at TE?
|2 years 21 weeks ago||This study||

Thanks for sharing this.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||April fools?||
Are we celebrating it on the 2nd now because this post cannot be serious?
|2 years 21 weeks ago||The questions you are asking||
...are the same ones Withey is asking himself. That's what makes #17 so beautiful...in addition to seeing Withey eat crow after trash talking Mitch's game to the media.
I honestly do not think Mitch had this earlier in the year and that he has just developed these moves through practice and game experience.
I just cannot wait until he becomes a shutdown defender too. It will happen. He works too hard for him not to do it.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||#17||
Withey's body language after McGary scores is priceless.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Celebrate these Meechigan men today||
Listen to The Team speech.
Listen to some Ufer calls.
And watch the YouTube video of the candlelight vigil for Bo with the glee club leading the students singing The Yellow and Blue.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||But we just beat an SE....||
Oh, I see what you did there. Nice.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Our guys||
Will "politely" ask their opponents to get off our court.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||UMHoops Blog||
Has a video of a great interview with Coach B in the locker room. I haven't watched the other postgame videos yet, but the Coach B interview is awesome. The guy is nothing but class.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||You're right||
Let's save the subs for next Monday night.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Where are the subs?||
Pretty lame party.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Good||
I am flying to Florida for vacation that morning. On the off chance that I have a 10 hour delay on my flight, I will still be able to catch the game.
Plus, I get to watch the game with my dad, which I was not expecting when I booked this vacation a couple of months ago. He taught me to love Michigan, so it will be special to watch at least one more Final 4 with him.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||My Four-year Old Daughter...||
Loves Michigan. She doesn't understand everything that's going on, but she loved her first two games at Michigan Stadium this year.
She loves the Muppets too and watched this with me, but I think I enjoyed this even more than she did.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||I would put Mitch as MOP||
But it's a very close call with Trey. Cannot go wrong either way.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Spike||
Florida was threatening when he made that steal and basket. Heads up play.
Every Stauskas three is tied for second.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||This absolutely is bigger||
Cap One was a nice sendoff for Carr but it was bittersweet because it showed that team did not live up to potential.
This was pure sweetness.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Vogrich||
So happy for him. He has been such a good sport about losing his role on this team. THE TEAM THE TEAM THE TEAM!!!!
|2 years 21 weeks ago||AGAIN||
|2 years 21 weeks ago||SPIKE||
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Helmet sticker for||
Spike. He has been clutch.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Wtf||
Wake up. Florida is not going away easily.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Should be up by 20||
Not happy with the last minute.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||No Mercy||
So far, this is beautiful.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Keep pushing||
Don't let up. Go Blue!
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Agreed||
I don't understand the need for some people to shit all over others beliefs.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Pretty sure he meant that too||
But I suppose I team could commit 5 flagrant fouls, each time before the ball is inbounded, and the other could sink a 3.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||That's Crazy||
I bet UM faced tougher defenses, and it would interesting to see UM's stats if the Wolverines did not play in the grab, hold, hack and no foul called B1G.
I hate Florida. They have won enough titles in football and basketball recently. They must be stopped.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Loved that gesture from Cal||
Loved the Go Blue chant between the team and the fans.
Love Olympic/nonrevenue sports. These athletes work extremely hard for almost no glory.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Also||
Whether it's 19 or 12, Michigan has more NCs than any other school in swimming. Go Blue!
|2 years 21 weeks ago||The NCAA cannot...||
recognize blatant cheaters, so who cares if they cannot recognize some of our champions.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||19th Team Title in M swimming history||
That's more NCs than any other M team, and just one less than football and hockey combined.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||I posted that||
Because the network had just said they were skipping ahead due to time restrictions.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Just beat me too this||
Looks like they are not showing the entire game though.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Go Blue!||
Bring it home!
|2 years 21 weeks ago||I agree with Vitale completely and did the same dance last night||
Michigan did take this game. Those who say KU gave it away are wrong unless they agree with the argument that UM gave it away for the first 37 minutes. Go Blue!
|2 years 21 weeks ago||CREAN IS NOT A PRICK||
He's a fucking douchebag asshole.
I also love that Marquette is in the elite 8.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Beilein AND the players||
Both deserve credit. Beilein has coached them up, and they are executing.
Contrast with MSU at the end of last night's game. They were down 10 points with 2 to 3 minutes to go too, and made the same boneheaded decision twice. They decided to go for a stop instead of a foul twice when they got the lead down to about 7, and let the shot clock get to about 5 to 7 seconds both times before making a boneheaded foul. Duke sank all four FTs and put the game away. Izzo obviously did not tell them to foul in those situations...they just didn't execute.
Our guys listened to coach and made some great plays. They forced some great stops down the stretch. Great team effort. Last 2:30 was all heart.
With that said, anyone who does not give Beilein the credit he deserves apparently slept through the Ellerbe and Amaker era. Beilein has put our program back on the map. A B1G championship last year, 4 out of the last 6 against Izzo, the Elite 8 for the first time in 20 years, and wins over top programs like KU. Plus, his recruiting is still going strong. I hope we get at least another 10 years out of Coach B.
Go Blue! I'm having a sub for breakfast.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Mitch||
He is UM's tournament MVP right now. He kept his team in the game tonight and destroyed VCU last weekend.
If he played like this all year, Michigan would have been B1G champs. Not knocking him...he just needed to develop...I would never question his effort. Talk about picking the right time to peak!
Go Blue! 3 down. 3 to go.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Trey||
We've been spoiled, but I want at least 3 more games from him.
His game is like poetry.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Windsor Trip||
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Trey||
Deserves one, but not yet. No jinx.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Go Blue||
Hope they bring it home. Are their remaining races their stronger events?
|2 years 21 weeks ago||I respect KU||
Former coworker of mine was a distance runner for KU. Class guy. I have met many other KU grads and they are generally good people.
Plus, they couldn't hold onto Coach Yost back in 1899, so I cannot hate them too much.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Play fucking||
I love Trey!
|2 years 21 weeks ago||They make their||
|2 years 21 weeks ago||zero timeouts||
Don't like it
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Shit call||
Mitch deserves better
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Mitch has really developed||
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Down 8||
8 missed FTs
|2 years 21 weeks ago||7 for 15||
From the line
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Free throws||
|2 years 21 weeks ago||I guess tackling Burke||
While rebounding is not a foul.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Free throw||
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Free throws||
Killing UM again.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Playing like crap||
But let's not jump ship yet. It's early.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||McGary||
Needs to learn how to shoot FTs.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Paper Eraser||
|2 years 22 weeks ago||Totally agree||
But Crean is still an ass.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||I want||
6 out of 16 now.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||Seeing Crean||
Makes me angry.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||Another great finish||
Hope UNC/KU goes down to the line too.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||And||
He's getting bitter because the B1G keeps winning.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||I understand the hate for Craft||
But that was a clutch shot.
Third B1G team in the sweet 16 and still a chance for 3 more.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||This team lost its mojo at the end of the year||
And many of us lost our faith in them.
However, when they are clicking, there is no team in the country they cannot beat. They need to remain confident.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||Clear the bench||
|2 years 22 weeks ago||Spike!||
He's not just a ball handler.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||UM||
Is on the express train to the double bonus and that is huge. Keep fouling VCU.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||Mitch||
Is the man.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||McGary||
Is the Havoc!
|2 years 22 weeks ago||SDSU is not a B1G team||
But it's refreshing to see everyone else step up and put this one away.
Trey's cold shooting tonight may have been exactly what the doctor ordered for everyone else.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||Mitch||
|2 years 22 weeks ago||Mitch isn't perfect||
But his effort has been tonight.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||That had to hurt||
Hope Trey is OK.
|2 years 23 weeks ago||My first reaction||
I looked at my calendar with the hope that today was April 1st.
This just sucks, especially for Jake.
|2 years 23 weeks ago||Why no Ann B. Davis?||
She was the coolest member of the Brady Bunch.
|2 years 23 weeks ago||MSU is a football school first||
They just have not been very good at football traditionally.
|2 years 23 weeks ago||Not angry about the seed||
I think this team deserves a 3 based on the totality of its season, but they really do not deserve it based on their inability to finish the season strongly. They only have themselves to blame for losing to Wisconsin twice and Penn State on the road. A few shots go the other way and this team is a two, or maybe even a one, seed, but they just could not win when it counted most.
Oh well, at least they are in Auburn Hills. Maybe a 4 seed will give them a chip on their shoulder to go out and prove others wrong.
