Ninja Gallon. |
| 1 day 10 hours ago | I like it |
But it also means that Hoke and co have a lot to live up to. Historically, Michigan's generally done better when they were ranked lower, or when nobody really expected much of them. It does mean that the rebuilding days are over. No more of the "we're three years away" phrase that we've been using since 2008. The next couple years will determine Hoke's legacy and where he'll stand in Michigan history. Does he live up to the hype that ESPN and the others are gifting us, or does Michigan join the ranks of the perpetually overrated? |

| 1 week 1 day ago | Not what I meant |
I meant that when people think of U of M, they generally forget North Campus. I was amused that that seems to be the case here. |
| 1 week 1 day ago | Clearly |
They excluded North Campus. That's okay though, because North Campus is inherently exclusionary. |

He was roughly ten times more productive than the rest of our backfield combined. I mean, you can't NOT put him at running back. |

I guess I joined after this points system changed. So I've never known it any other way. The old way sounds exciting. |

Depends on how good Cleary is, which, let's face it, only the coaches know. |

I don't understand. How can they make a BCS bowl when they have a guaranteed loss on September 7? |
| 5 weeks 1 day ago | But Seth |
But Seth, if we give Gallon the #1 jersey and draw attention to him, does that counteract the cloaking device? |

There's something very unnatural about seeing him in a #29 jersey. |
| 7 weeks 1 day ago | Anecdote |
When I was younger I loved John Navarre, so I got a #16 jersey in an adult size that was hilariously large on me. Nowadays it fits just fine and it also came in handy as another #16 made his magic happen. |

What do the Jets have now, six quarterbacks? |

As the key to any strength and conditioning program lies in the heart of recovery, cold showers or baths are a useful tool. Athletes in the Eastern Bloc were very fond of the contrast bath method, where they would submerge themselves in hot water for one minute and transfer immediately afterwards to a tub of cold water, repeating the cycle as necessary. Crazy, but it works. This is also why many D1 football players take ice baths after practice. The sooner, the better. |

| 9 weeks 5 days ago | Probably unhelpful for the majority, but |
Whenever my parents came down for gamedays or what have you, I told them to avoid Central Campus like the plague. So they'd park up near the School of Music and then bus down with me to the stadium. Guaranteed free parking, little hassle, and easy to get out of as well. Of course, I wouldn't really recommend that to anyone not familiar with North Campus, as it'd be ridiculously easy to get lost. |

Sometimes after a loss one might go crazy, blame everybody, call for someone's head, be generally mad at the world. Last night wasn't like that for me and it hasn't been like that for a lot of people from what I can tell. Afterwards people talked of what a great season it had been and what a game it was. That's not always the case. Last night was something very special, and as a Wolverine, win or lose, it was incredible to be a part of.

| 10 weeks 1 day ago | Refs |
Refs weren't as bad as everyone's been saying. The Burke block was unfortunate. Other than that, they were fine. We got a lot of calls our way mid-second-half. On an unrelated note, Burke really gave his body to the game. How many times did his face eat the ground? |

Monday night I had a dream that I woke up and Michigan had lost to Syracuse. I was sad that we lost but also seriously miffed because the sports world had promised me that it would take place on Saturday, and I'd missed it. It felt so very real. I've consulted a number of witches and wise men and gazed into the crystal time and again, but I am unsure of what it means. Are we now guaranteed to win, or lose? |
| 10 weeks 6 days ago | Makes me sad. |
He's been the Lions kicker for longer than I've been alive. It'll be so strange seeing someone else kick for them. |

Spike scoring twice in like three seconds was AWESOME. In other news, transition buckets = money, especially when you can throw no-look passes around like whoa. |
| 11 weeks 3 days ago | Good god. |
That is truly horrific. I hope he can play again. |

I cannot WAIT to see this week in gifs. There were so many awesome giffable moments in this game. |

I was at UTL so I'll always be biased in favor of that. Then again, this game was the first Michigan basketball game I'd watched beginning to end that we won, so it was nice to break that curse. |

Last year I caved to peer pressure and created a bracket, but just to be contrary I had us going out in the first round. Needless to say, I have not blasphemied since. |
| 12 weeks 1 day ago | Eh. |
Being favored makes me nervous whether it's football or basketball, whether we're horrendous or #1. |
| 12 weeks 1 day ago | Also a heartbreaker. |
Those were a rough few weeks for the team. It wasn't really until the fourth quarter of the Minnesota game that they got their heads on straight again. |

Hulk would be the Avengers, not the Justice League. Get yo' comic heroes straight. |

The picture of your kid with the football and oversized football helmet is adorable. Congrats, mate. |
| 13 weeks 2 days ago | Heh. |
I remember the day I discovered that not everyone in America was a Michigan fan. We were in Florida and there were no John Navarre jerseys to be found in stores anywhere. It was that day I learned what regional sports were. |
| 13 weeks 2 days ago | Minority view, maybe |
Minority view, maybe, but I root for State when they're not playing Michigan. *Shrug* |
| 13 weeks 2 days ago | Well |
Well, I damn well don't have them going out in the first round again, that's for sure. |
| 13 weeks 3 days ago | It's a trap! |
Trick question. They are all fact. |
| 13 weeks 4 days ago | Good stuff. |
I hope this is but the first of many Devin-to-Devin connections that we see. |
| 13 weeks 5 days ago | On the bright side |
it's nice to be leading instead of playing from behind for once. |
| 13 weeks 6 days ago | Bellomy |
I like that he gave Bellomy a shout-out. Unexpected, but nice. He's not one to throw players under the bus, that's for sure. |
| 14 weeks 16 hours ago | O-line |
I doubt the O-Line is going to set the world on fire, since the spring practice is a glorified open scrimmage/practice. So don't get too excited. |
| 14 weeks 1 day ago | Awesome |
Awesome, good for him. Now that he's on the cover and everyone knows what he looks like, can EA include his dreads in the game this time? |
| 15 weeks 4 days ago | Eh |
Pretty sure it's just unfortunate lighting. |
| 15 weeks 5 days ago | Hmm. |
This seems oddly specific. |
| 15 weeks 6 days ago | 2011 |
2011, now that was supposed to be the start of something new and grand. Hoke came in and magicked the team to a BCS bowl. The basketball team suddenly started winning and made it to the playoffs for the first time in ever, sharing the B1G championship along the way. Fate had smiled upon us. Things were turning around. The arenas and stadiums were rocking as they hadn't for years. Then suddenly this year happened. Neither the football nor basketball teams it seems could win when it mattered. Even hockey fell. So yeah. We were there, and then we lost a step somewhere along the way. Hard to say where. Ah, whatever. It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine. |
| 15 weeks 6 days ago | Well. |
We lost to OSU this year, exactly because our offense didn't work. Should probably find something else to say as well. |

| 16 weeks 6 days ago | Similar story |
I spent my whole life in Michigan, then went to school in California for a bit while keeping Michigan as my permanent residence. Took months to sort out even though I was living in Michigan at the time of my application. |

I'll laugh like a hyena if this proves to be true. |
| 17 weeks 2 days ago | Idea |
Give them the dorms. Meanwhile, the students clear off to Florida for the weekend, bringing with them all their prize possessions. Classes cancelled Monday. Everyone parties. Whattaya think? |
| 17 weeks 2 days ago | Lots of hate in this thread. |
Lots of hate in this thread. The prevailing theme seems to be that it's beneath us to allow these dirty immature WWE fans into our totally pure and clean Ann Arbor and loan to them our crown jewel, the Big House, which has NEVER seen a rowdy crowd or a drunk person. Ever. I get where it's coming from, kinda, but really, we have a kickass stadium - the biggest in the US - and it only gets used a single-digit number of times per year, and not at all for the majority of the year. I really don't see it being as big a problem as others seem to. |
| 17 weeks 3 days ago | Hmm. |
Think he'll still be able to dunk at 100? |
| 17 weeks 4 days ago | Well |
Everyone's covered the basics (UTL, Ohio State 2011, Penn State, etc), so I'll add my first trip to the Big House - 2002 against Western Michigan. This was one week after Phillip Brabbs and Washington happened, not that I knew it at the time. For me, a wide-eyed nine-year-old in a dorkishly big Michigan hat, walking into that gigantic stadium with all those people was just incredible. Some things you just don't forget. |
| 17 weeks 5 days ago | ...huh. |
Interesting... |
| 17 weeks 5 days ago | Hmph. |
This damn well better not be the surprise everyone keeps talking about. |
| 17 weeks 6 days ago | Nope |
We stopped the clock at 1 second with an incomplete pass, not a spike. The rule wouldn't apply in that case. |
| 18 weeks 8 hours ago | ... |
...so now they'll paint their field orange instead, I suppose? |

I didn't realize Lloyd Carr was with Hoke at the game. Makes it worse, somehow. |

| 20 weeks 3 hours ago | Actually |
Actually, me too. After Ben Wallace left and that whole lineup sort of drifted apart, I lost interest. |
| 20 weeks 9 hours ago | Untrue |
Rich Rod cared deeply about every player on the roster, starter or star or no. The defense quote went along the lines of "You could get Vince Lombardi in here and it wouldn't fix some of the problems we have on defense," referring to the lack of experience and leadership on that side of the ball, compounded by the fact that the defensive coordinator was being asked to run a scheme he'd never run before. The RR era may not have ended well at Michigan, but don't spread falsehoods about the man. |
| 20 weeks 1 day ago | Right |
I was wondering this as well. You can't pay just football players and ignore every other sport. I know football is placed on a higher pedestal than most other things, but that's a step too far. |
| 20 weeks 2 days ago | I'd be down. |

| 20 weeks 5 days ago | My question is |
When you get more teams in a conference than there are games in a season, to the point where one ten-team half is the Big Ten division and the other half is the ACC/Other Teams division... I mean, what's the point? |
| 20 weeks 5 days ago | Damn |
2005 was not a good year to be a 5-star. Also, California's had some good backs. |
| 20 weeks 6 days ago | Funny |
It's been in my head ever since they used it to introduce the Cowboy Classic jerseys. |
| 20 weeks 6 days ago | Dennison? |

| 21 weeks 2 days ago | Perhaps |
Perhaps we could do a doubleheader with Appalachian State in 2014. |
| 21 weeks 3 days ago | Correction |
Alabama was #2 at the time of our slaughtering, not #1. That would be USC. Preaseasons are funny that way sometimes. |
| 21 weeks 5 days ago | No idea |
Lewan, yeah, probably. Quite honestly though, there's more to being a captain than who we fans think happens to play the best on the field. It's about who leads in practices, who coaches the underclassmen, who gives it their all every day - as Bo once said, they "have to be me on the field." And frankly, only the coaches who are with the players every day know these things. There's more to a player than what they do on Saturday. |
| 21 weeks 6 days ago | Time |
How many minutes of real time did the last 7 minutes of game time take? |
| 22 weeks 2 days ago | According to Jim Brandstatter |
According to Jim Brandstatter, the tradition was started by accident. Way back in the 50s or 60s or so, the PA guy read a bunch of scores off the ticker tape, and when he got to Slippery Rock, the bored crowd gave a big ovation for the school with the funny name. So they started doing it every time. |
| 22 weeks 2 days ago | He does have a point |
He does have a point - if the divisions aren't geographic, then you can't have geographic names, and then what are you left with? You can't convince me that "inner" and "outer" are good names for divisions of a conference. I'd be fine with Leaders and Legends if Michigan was in the Leaders division as they should be. |

I'm aware of a "rivalry type thing" between us and Duke, I was mostly amused that it was considered big enough to have its own Wiki entry. |
| 22 weeks 3 days ago | Interesting |
I was utterly unaware that they even kept records of those kinds of things. |
| 22 weeks 4 days ago | Same |
I was at last year's spring game. It was enjoyable in that it was FOOTBAW, which had been missing from my life for far too long, but it was average on the whole. Hearing Carl Grapentine leave his mic on and say things like, "Oh wow, that was a pretty nice run" was funny, though. |

| 23 weeks 2 hours ago | Not at all |
Doesn't change my expectations at all, I had 12-0 from day one. Now we shall win the twelve games by a slightly higher margin. |
| 23 weeks 6 hours ago | Ahhh. |
What. A. Man. |
| 23 weeks 1 day ago | Because |
To a point, it's not about ranking the "best" teams. Bama's clearly the best team in football, but they still managed to lose a game. It happens. Notre Dame is ranked high because they are 12-1. We are ranked low because we lost five games. That also happens. |
| 23 weeks 6 days ago | Hmm. |
Another lifer in the making, perhaps? |
| 23 weeks 6 days ago | Yost |
Bo revived the standard, but Fielding Yost set the standard. |
| 23 weeks 6 days ago | Hell no |
Roll damn Tide and may they win by a larger margin than the Cowboy Classic. |
| 23 weeks 6 days ago | Bo |
Didn't Bo's teams go something like four or five years without falling out of the top 10? |
| 23 weeks 6 days ago | And now |
If only Rutgers had pulled it out, the Big Easy would have a clean sweep. |
| 24 weeks 11 hours ago | Uniformz |
They really didn't look as bad as I thought they would, but the numbers absolutely should have been blue. |
| 24 weeks 1 day ago | I'll admit |
I'll be the first to admit, I've knocked Borges a fair amount of times. I didn't have much faith before the game, and not much at the beginning of the game either. But in the end, he called a very fine game. Reminded me of OSU last year - offense bailing out the defense for once, but this time it didn't quite work. |
| 24 weeks 1 day ago | Timing |
Look at the timing, though. Eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, Michigan's ball, threatening to put together a long drive, possibly score, and give the ball back to USC with much less room for error. They needed a big defensive play, and they got one pretty emphatically. |
| 24 weeks 1 day ago | Ace Sanders |
If anybody was an MVP, it was Ace Sanders. Dude was all over the place. |
| 24 weeks 1 day ago | It was good yes |
It was good, yes, but of course the first play we take Lewan off of guarding Clowney, the man goes and kills Vincent Smith which earned him MVP honors and will probably be replayed incessantly on ESPN. Lewan-Clowney matchup of the ages? Check. Clowney with the game-changer? Also check. |

| 25 weeks 3 days ago | Possibly |
Possibly, but the way I see it, the jerseys have been given to only very good players. Perhaps in the future if a standout player has a real shot of becoming a Legend, he'll keep his normal jersey number. As to your final question, Denard, as much as I love him, will not have his jersey become part of the Legends program. |
| 25 weeks 4 days ago | Eh |
If we've ever had a player worthy of having "facts" written about them, it would've been Zoltan. Lewan, not so much. |
| 25 weeks 5 days ago | Borges |
That makes Borges the highest-paid offensive coordinator in the B1G. Which is... interesting. |

Please. |
| 26 weeks 1 day ago | Indiana |
I will go on record saying that Indiana will be the Detroit Lions. Always on the verge, looks good on paper, but never quite gets it together. |
| 26 weeks 1 day ago | Eh, I liked the Cowboy Classic ones |
Eh, I liked the Cowboy Classic ones. They were shiny and new-fangled while still being Michigan. Haven't liked any of the others. "Parade" is a good word to use. This is Michigan fergodsakes. |

Unless you live on North. Not to mention it makes getting home easier. |

Shutout central today. Hasn't anybody heard of offense? I long for the golden days of no defense and the spread n' shred. The current generation is inferior. /s |
| 26 weeks 3 days ago | Well... |
Shit. |
| 26 weeks 4 days ago | What I did |
Frankly, I got chummy with the admissions people. Not pushy or anything, but just sent them a note saying how Michigan was at the top of my list, how I'd go if they accepted me, and the obligatory "Go Blue!" (They like that.) Well it worked, they accepted me after I got deferred. For further reference I had a 3.12 GPA, 2160 SAT, and through a colossal oversight left the extracurriculars section of my application blank except for football, so it appeared as though I did basically nothing outside of school. |
| 26 weeks 4 days ago | I was deferred |
Deferred is not bad at all, it just means that they need a bit more time. I was deferred and was accepted a month or so later. It's actually better than being waitlisted. So chin up, wot. |
| 26 weeks 5 days ago | See: dream |
A man can still dream, yeah? |
| 26 weeks 5 days ago | Aw man |
There goes my dream of him being our De'Anthony Thomas/Percy Harvin type player. |
| 26 weeks 5 days ago | No superlative? |
No superlative for Nebraska? "Most hated apart from Ohio State except you can't really hate them because they're all so nice and oh fuck it I hate them anyway because obviously," perhaps? |
| 26 weeks 6 days ago | Defense |
That's a formidable-looking defense. Fast, aggressive. And Clowney - very impressive. Where's Chris Perry and his precision screens of doom when you need him? |
| 26 weeks 6 days ago | Garmon got injured himself |
After the starter (Bullock) got injured in the Northern Illinois game, Garmon went in and also got got injured immediately after. |
| 26 weeks 6 days ago | Well |
Dunno what you all are talking about, I'd love to take a golf course instead of an engineering one. |
| 27 weeks 4 hours ago | Garmon |
This is the same man who scoffed at AIRBHG in March, right? The poor fool. AIRBHG will always have his revenge in the end. |
| 27 weeks 2 days ago | Almost looks intentional. |
Almost looks intentional, though I wouldn't know why. Right? I mean, surely no real basketball player could fail that badly... right? |
| 27 weeks 5 days ago | Rugby concussions |
I played rugby here at Michigan, and while I'm no expert on the subject I can tell you that out of the 59 or so guys on the team this year, I think about six got concussed during the season. They teach you to tackle completely differently in rugby, actually - instead of putting your head across the ball carrier's body like in football, you aim to put your head more towards the back of his hip and wrap your arms around the back of their knees. The thing is that a hundred years ago with leather helmets, the problem was not with concussions, but rather skull fractures. After an increasing number of deaths in football a motion was put forth for a better helmet, which evolved into the helmet we know today - it doesn't do much to stop concussions, but it will stop your skull from splintering. At the time, that was seen as a pretty fair tradeoff. |

Some of the heads are rather comically large. |
| 28 weeks 39 min ago | TWIS |
Should've had a TWIS concerning fans' reactions to coaching changes. |

Yes. You said it. |

Wisconsin manhandled them in every possible way. Give them a little bit of credit here. |
