Probably bad timing on my part. No worries.
|20 hours 14 min ago||I sort of agree as well||
The purpose of this thread (as opposed to the others) is to give us a somewhat positive outlet for thinking about the recruiting. It seems like everything is negative; let's remember that lots of awesome recruits come here and love it even if they aren't 100% sure about it at first.

If anybody is interested, let me know. They are going for about $200 to $250 on Law Open right now.
Of course, they are student tickets, so you have to get them validated or have an MCard that isn't expired. Also you have to deal with the GA.
|14 weeks 4 days ago||Kangaroo Boxing Club||
I'm not the biggest Buffalo Billiards fan, so I've been seeking alternatives for a while and found what might be my favorite restaurant in DC: Kangaroo Boxing Club, in Columbia Heights.
Ridiculously good BBQ, started by Michigan people (so they show all the games and a good Michigan contingent is there watching), much smaller than BBs and I think a lot more fun, especially for basketball games. Order the gorgonzola bacon mac and cheese. Best I've ever had.
Edit: Beat by seconds! Obviously this is the place to be.
|14 weeks 6 days ago||I've done it||
I wore a mich snuggie at the 2009 osu game. It can be done.
|14 weeks 6 days ago||Not incredibly surprising||
To be honest, I'm not surprised. When you drop that much weight from your freshman to senior years of high school, it's probably pretty difficult to keep it off. He didn't have the same level of structure this summer, so he put on a few pounds.
A year with Wellman and the nutritionist people should bring him to exactly the weight the coaches want. I think everyone would have preferred he could have come in and played like a stud immediately, but in retrospect that's a little unrealistic of an expectation.

From previous interviews it seems like these were filmed a few days before they air (for example: the Countess one had the same clips as the practice video the day before). So don't make any Green conclusions from the vid.

I chose Michigan (in-state, with a large scholarship both times) over Harvard for both undergraduate and law schools. I'm not out of law school yet, but so far in life the undergrad choice was a great one.
I think feel is one of the most important things you can take into account when choosing a place to go to school. So much of life is about the relationships you develop, and you can learn much better in an environment where you are comfortable and feel supported. Now, she might definitely get that at Harvard; I thought it was really snooty and annoying, but that's a personal opinion.

We haven't offered any 2015 QBs, and it took us until the beginning of this year to offer a 2014 guy (and we only offered one).

Stauskas shot it twice. One went in.
Honestly, I thought Caris should have been in there more minutes to check Siva. His length and quickness would have helped, and neither Spike nor Stauskas were doing anything offensively in the second half so it wouldn't have been a drag at that end of the court. I thought Spike played great but was just not big or quick enough on D.

And hell yes. Trey deserves this 100%.

Agreed on the jumper lift aspect. I predict Burke (who I'm assuming will match up on him) gets 2-3 blocks. Wolters still outscores him, but Michigan wins comfortably.

I actually wouldn't mind too much being the 5 seed and playing PSU and then Wisconsin and just kicking the crap out of them.
That said, I'd prefer a B10 championship. But if there's a silver lining to a loss to Indiana, that's it.
|39 weeks 4 days ago||Valid point||
I guess I called it fluff because it doesn't contain any specific news (like, Beilein hits X wins so here's a profile!).
|39 weeks 4 days ago||Um...nope||
Robinson doesn't play the 2 or 3. So that is a completely invalid statement.
We only played two bigs when Robinson was out. Stauskas being out meant more minutes for Levert and Spike.
Edit: confirmed on Statsheet. Two bigs and Robinson were never on the floor at the same time.

|39 weeks 4 days ago||Are you kidding?||
He puts his best players in a position to make plays. Now, I'd prefer that Burke doesn't settle for a long three as well...but setting him up on an island with a single high ball screen is what we do best on offense.
I think the latest example is when he won the timeout at the end of the first half against State with that matchup zone call on D. Excellent, excellent coaching.

|40 weeks 1 day ago||I think the video||
I think the video is much better than the song itself. The video is amazing. But many of his other songs ("Wings" and "10,000 Hours" are my two favorites) are better.
Death Cab for Cutie has a bunch of songs that I think are superior to their radio played ones, especially old stuff. I feel like a hipster now.
I listen to Lupe when I'm pissed, generally. Or old school Eminem.
|40 weeks 3 days ago||There are scouts||

But that was clearly kind of a fluke. It was like hitting your funnybone, except a couple degrees of magnitude worse (so about funnybone equivalent for a normal person who isn't running into 300-pound people at 10mph on a day-to-day basis). I wouldn't call myself injury-prone if I hit my funnybone on my desk once and it bugged me for the rest of the day.
|40 weeks 4 days ago||WR corps||
I think he'll be much improved this year simply from an improved WR corps. He's already got great chemistry with Gallon and Dileo, and I think one of Darboh/Chesson/freshman will give him a nice third option that helps keep the defense playing honest on the others (and possibly open up better matchups for Funchess).
In my mind, the play of the WR corps will be his make-or-break, and I think it'll fall on the "make" side of that.

|42 weeks 2 days ago||Yeah||
Ferns has been tweeting at Mason Cole a bunch:
|43 weeks 2 days ago||I think the concern||
with his arm strength is more with what you said at first: he throws a lot of loopy stuff that college-level DBs will be able to eat up.
That said, towards the end of his film there were a few 10-15 yard throws on a rope that made me feel much better about the arm strength. I think once he learns to throw off his front foot he could be excellent.
Also, he's definitely not a DG in terms of speed (no need to even think of comparing him to Denard) but he's just as definitely not a John Navarre either. He looked fairly agile for his size back there on some of the plays.
|43 weeks 2 days ago||I sort of assume||

I vote Morgan all the way. While McGary has the higher percentages at blocks and steals, I think Morgan plays much better all-around defense. McGary is more of a high-risk, high-reward defensive player and is still lacking in certain fundamentals.
The stat I'd like to see (did UMHoops put this up at some point?) is the field goal percentage of the players each of them are guarding.

|1 year 10 weeks ago||New DC Michigan bar||
A new bar opened up relatively recently in DC called the Kangaroo Boxing Club. Used to be a food truck owned by a few UM grads, they made enough money to turn it into a fantastic BBQ bar/restaurant. It has big Michigan flags outside and enough fans turned out that I think I feel comfortable calling it a michigan bar.
Caught the Notre Dame game there, and the only thing keeping me from hurting myself was the ridiculously delicious bleu cheese mac and cheese (with free bacon!). They've got a couple of TVs and a projector. Pretty small place, and it definitely got busy during the game, but not to the extent I thought it would.
$3 312s and $5 two hearted during the games, which is pretty cheap for DC. http://kangaroodc.com/
|1 year 11 weeks ago||I'd take him||

|1 year 12 weeks ago||I think||
The point of the jerseys shouldn't be to reward a player, they should be to motivate. I would prefer to give it to a freshman who might be a leader on the team someday (even if he doesn't become a star) than give it to a player who is a star on the field but maybe hasn't taken as much of a leadership role in the locker room.
|1 year 12 weeks ago||Cool, thanks.||
Have we ever had a fullback wear a number in the 80s? Since I'm already asking questions of people who know more than me...

I actually like that a lot. Is he allowed to wear 87? Jersey number rules always confuse me.
|1 year 12 weeks ago||Kevin Koger||
In all seriousness, though, I wouldn't mind if Funchess gets it. I think having legends numbers for all four years could really get kids motivated to become early leaders on the team. I see them less as a reward and more as a motivator.

Unfortunately, I think the series will take a while to come out...I believe the author is going through some pretty serious personal stuff (sickness in the family?). So best of luck to him.

Are pretty great. Not too deep, great plot and funny characters.
|1 year 18 weeks ago||I was going to write this.||
Obviously, beaten to the punch.
This is an awesome deep reread of the series so far, if anyone is interested. Written by Jo Walton, who wrote a pretty good book called "Among Others." http://www.tor.com/features/series/patrick-rothfuss-reread
|1 year 18 weeks ago||Seconded||
Terry Pratchett's books are fantastic, and you definitely don't have to read them in order or anything to enjoy them. He is basically the Douglas Adams of the fantasy genre, brilliant satire.
|1 year 18 weeks ago||Definitely||
The Magicians is great, and the second book in the series (The Magician King) is also fantastic. Third book will be coming out in the next year or so, I believe?
|1 year 19 weeks ago||I have that exact same memory||
Sitting on the hill, watching foul balls hit cars driving past...

Why can't football season be here already?

I recommend never listening to Pachelbel's Canon, ever.

28-26 about halfway through the second.
Three bullshit foul calls on Chandler so far.
|1 year 19 weeks ago||True||
Not meant at all as a "this guy isn't very good" statement, I was just trying to info-dump so people could get an idea of what the recruiting services think right now.
Personally, I'm a fan of the re-offer. If we were recruiting him before he committed to Penn State, I don't care what any site says about him...the coaches know their business.
|1 year 19 weeks ago||FYI||
He's a low four star on most sites, three star to Scout.

His reason for repeatedly misusing the word "nor." Come on Freep, hire some copy editors.
|1 year 21 weeks ago||Exactly!||
That's what I immediately pulled out of this. If she's drunk enough to do what she did, how the hell did she drive them home? And even if Sarah doesn't want to press criminal charges, isn't that grounds for arrest itself?
|1 year 21 weeks ago||What about the||
Builders Square Alamo Bowl? Anybody remember the commercials for that? They were fantastic.
If someone can find a video, I'd be forever grateful.
|1 year 23 weeks ago||Weird||
Does anyone else think this is a weirdly structured list? Are they ranked in order of how good they will be in college? The projections seem very different from the rankings in many cases.
I don't have insider, so it might be explained better on another page. I just don't really get it. Also, isn't Chad Ford not very good at this like right before the draft? Why is he doing it a full year in advance?
|1 year 25 weeks ago||I think||
Herm would enjoy that neighborhood
|1 year 25 weeks ago||Yes.||
Yes. Nuff said.
|1 year 25 weeks ago||Profit||
Can you do a sort of the Revenue/Expense/Profit table by profit instead of revenue? Be interesting to see where we fall there.
|1 year 26 weeks ago||Fantastic||
"Michigan under Brady Hoke. Denard Robinson spinning plates and a defense made up of fishing line, happy thoughts, and guys playing eight miles over their head. Oh, and Time Traveling Bob Seger at kicker thinking about brunettes."
|1 year 26 weeks ago||Actually not||
You can see it pretty clearly on Scout without any fancy pants database manipulation. I noticed that he was in there twice a while ago and was curious about it then, so I figured it out. Interestingly, his two profiles are actually ranked differently...one is a three and one a four star.
|1 year 26 weeks ago||Illustration||
That illustration is amazing.
|1 year 26 weeks ago||Stauskas||
He switched high schools, which may be the reason he's on there twice.
|1 year 26 weeks ago||Sort of||
Some people don't like computers, some people don't like human polling, some people don't like the idea of a committee deciding...the point of changing to a playoff is that if more teams have a shot to prove they are the best, it's more likely that the team who is crowned champion actually deserves it. There is always going to be controversy, but hopefully the eventual winner is pretty clearly superior.
|1 year 27 weeks ago||That's not it||
You aren't determining or comparing overall conference strength at any point in his plan...you compare the ratings of all teams (using computers, polls, etc), and then the three highest-rated champions from any major conference are included. Then the next highest rated team out of everyone else is also included.

"The Wolverines left Ann Arbor, Mich., for Detroit's Metro Airport around 5:15 a.m. CT Wednesday, and then flew through Minneapolis before arriving at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, Calif., around 11:20 a.m. PT."
I believe ESPN thinks Michigan is in the central timezone. Nice one, guys.
In other news, this trip seems like it will really give our seniors something to build on going into the year. I'm pumped.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||Exact opposite||
My buddy from high school grew up a diehard Michigan fan, went to state (due to similar reasons, scholarship and programs) and never switched over to the dark side. In fact, the State marching band had to vote a new rule into their constitution so they could kick him out for not participating in their anti-Michigan cheers.
Basically what I'm saying is A) It's possible to hold strong in enemy territory and B) My buddy is a badass.
|1 year 30 weeks ago||I agree.||
Until there is actually some quote from a coach or player saying they even recognize this as a slight, this guy is just making stuff up. Manufacturing controversy = more hits on your site, but isn't good reporting.
|1 year 30 weeks ago||Great.||
I love watching them interact with each other. They are going to be so tight when they get on campus (especially important for Shane and the O-line).
I also liked how cryptic and then complimentary Taco was when they asked him about Caris. Anybody know what time that announcement is supposed to happen today?
|1 year 30 weeks ago||Love the wolverine.||
I know a lot of people were hating on those big chill jerseys, but I'm a huge fan. Love the wolverine picture.
|1 year 30 weeks ago||Well...||
My friend's roommate, a Michigan student, actually made it on there a year or two ago. It was appropriate. She was pretty excited at the time.
|1 year 31 weeks ago||Beat Sparty and the Buckeyes.||
Definitely. Beating Alabama would be nice, but not nearly as important.
|1 year 31 weeks ago||Exactly!||
"Too big to fail" is used to describe a financial institution the government believes it needs to bail out to keep the economy from crashing. (No politics, that's just what the original meaning of the phrase was).
While the meaning Rittenberg is using is different (Ohio failing certainly wouldn't be disastrous for the college football system we are used to, although things would certainly change...he uses it more like "they are so big they will bounce back quickly" than "their demise could cripple college football forever") I think the original meaning sort of actually applies in terms of the actions of the governing body. All the usual caveats here of course, but I think many of us would agree that the NCAA punishment for last year's transgressions was a little bit light. If OSU wasn't "too big to fail" in the Lehman brothers sense, why didn't the NCAA come down harder? If they were a smaller school would the punishment have been harsher? Interesting to think about.

This whole situation is reminding me of when Jeremy rigs the "Who is cooler: Dan or Casey?" poll so Casey wins like 8,000,000 to 150.

Not really sure why we should pay attention to Buffalo State College's playoff proposal.
