Oh, I wasn't saying that he played better than the +/- showed, I just think that stat line is a bit misleading (Thompson's stat line is proof of that) as there are four other guys on the court at the same time that all had those -43 points collectively. I wasn't going to say anything like that until I looked at both Curry and Thompson's +/-. All three guys generally play together, so I figured they had to be close. Curry had a pretty off game as well.
The worst thing Green did for the Warriors was kick Adams in the nuts for the second time. Crowd went berserk after that play as did the whole Thunder team. If he is sidelined for the next game, that will obviously hurt the Warriors even more. Dumb, dumb play.

If we think Beilein is going to turn down another Stauskas for an athletic guy who can't shoot, then I'd say we are taking new "recruiting profile" too far to the extreme. Stauskas all day - that's Beilein's main asset that he targets.
That being said, I think the trends are for more athleticism on the team, and I do think that's a good thing. Let's just not get carried away and think he's going to completely change his whole offense.

If you have the time and are looking to cut weight/add lean muscle, P90X will kick your butt and works fantastic. I did it for two years or so as my workouts at home until I finally made myself start going to the gym after getting married (hard to get a workout in with my wife at home). To save time from being away from home, I usually go to the gym over my lunch hour. Sometimes I'm gone for an hour and a half as it's pretty difficult to get a full gym workout in the time span I need to, but it's worth it and hopefully isn't discouraged by your employer. I understand that's not an option for everyone though.
All that being said, if your only option is to work from home, I would again highly recommend P90X or one of the shorter video options like Insanity or some of the others the commenters above recommended. I'm not as familar with most of those, but they work great. Invest $100-$150 on some dumbbells, and you'll be good to go.
#1 thing I would recommend though is to just start eating healthy and drinking healthy. Drink lots of water, cut the soda/sugary crap if that's something you partake in, drink black coffee and eat healthy. While exercise is important, you will find yourself feeling crazy good just by watching what you eat and drink. I was forced to start eating/drinking healthier because of stomach issues, and it's made a world of difference for me.
Here's to whoever read my book!

My business is full of obese lazy people (at least when it comes to exercise), and health isn't ever a topic of concern among those that are further up the food chain. Bet it would stir a few laughs if I brought the idea up, but I think businesses that require a lot of desk/meeting time should start getting involved in more open-minded ideas that encourage activity and good health while on the job.
Great concept. Thanks for the idea.

If Penn State wants to start cleaning up the reputation of that school and convince the public and the media that it's changed and headed in the right direction, it should stop the legal process fighting these claims and settle on an amount, willing to help out the victims as an act of acceptance for what happened and take responsibility for the enabling the university created.
It's not enough that they fired everyone they knew were involved - they need to start taking responsibility. After all, the university hired the people who hired the coaches. You can't just blame the individuals in this situation. The reputation of the university will be forever impaired, and the extent of the damage at this point fully depends on what responsibilities the university takes from here on out. If you live with an understanding of what took place on this campus, unless you're a son or daughter of someone who is a part of the Penn St cult community, I'm not sure why you would want to be associated with this place and place enrollment. This is Penn St's worst nightmare.

"Limit the dates." I believe I agree with this. Only issue is that you may be battling with coaches to come up with THE camp for kids to go to since they would only be able to attend camps over a short period of time. Just an initial thought I had, so it may still be the best option.
I will reiterate that I don't believe that camps necessarily need to be limited, but the concern is spread across all conferences. Because of this, I think their voices should be heard as well, and maybe the best outcome is a happy medium.
Just because Harbaugh can't do 30 satellite camps over a span of two months doesn't mean he can't come up with plenty of other fantastic ideas/events for the summer months.

|6 weeks 4 days ago||I love Bill Snyder's comments||
I love Bill Snyder's comments in particular. The reason he sees it as a good thing is that he's afraid it's going to get out of hand with too many camps. So you ban satellite camps in order to prevent 20 different major college coaches from doing 30 different camps a piece... Well the problem is now every single college in America is forced to run their own camp instead of just attending an already existing camp, which will bump up the numbers all in itself. And maybe most schools already do that, but still... How is that fair to schools like Eastern Michigan or South Alabama who now have to compete for campers with Michigan and Alabama?
It's a joke.
However, I think there are enough schools across the board that are concerned about satellite camps in general given the trend it looks like they're headed towards. And because of that I feel that it could be logical to limit the scope of satellite camps to a certain number (5? 10?) per school and it should at the very least be a MUCH better and fairer proposal than a complete elimination. In no way should there even be the option to completely eliminate camps, however. It's a crime against student athletes who are praying for scholarships. The kids who need the scholarships are the same ones that can't afford to go to a bunch of camps seeking offers. Not to mention schools will have to put on camps on the same day as other schools and compete against each other not just for their money but also for their time. Are we going to need a satellite camp recruiting position now?
All that being said, I love Mike Leach for what he said. He's hilarious and spot on.

Well Xavier Sinpson would be considered in the same exact class as Thornton after the transfer redshirt. And you make this comment as if he's not that good of a recruit. He's coming in as a future PG starter. That's what both Beilein and Simpson expect. Not sure how you can't given the current roster (1 senior starting PG then a walk on and a Non-true PG/SG in MAAR). You're risking pissing off Simpson and running him off as well. All guys should want competition, but whoever is the starter of those two wouldn't be the starter for the duration of their careers unless the other gets injured. That would more than likely result in one of those two transferring anyway, wouldn't you think? And I'm pretty sure Thornton wouldn't want to transfer twice.
I'm just saying that I could see why Simpson coming in could affect his desire to go to his past #2 school of choice. Thats all.

I agree with where you're coming from here. When you think about the concerns about OL depth and how three of our O-Line starters will graduate after this year, THAT is concerning to me.
Also, another LBer is gone. Jourdan Lewis is gone. Peppers more than likely gone. There are a lot of fantastic players that are leaving after this season, so I have a hard time not seeing a few bumps and bruises on the 2017 roster.
That being said, I think we are going to see a VERY exciting team in 2017 with a bunch of young talent with excellent potential. May not be a championship team, but I wouldn't put it over Harbaugh's head to turn that team into a championship quality team by year's end.
The one worry with 2017 is will everyone be patient enough to see that team develop. I could see a hickup or two early, and I think we need to understand that Harbaugh's guys will only really be sophomores/freshmen. 2018 is where I believe we truly will see where this team is going to be under Harbaugh regardless of how 2017 ends up.
This season has a LOT to do with the current staff's ability to develop Hoke's recruits. We saw that development last year, so I think there's a lot of reason to still expect a very fun 2017 with some challenges but also successes.

|9 weeks 2 days ago||If it gets to the point where||
If it gets to the point where Harbaugh has to play "boss" then I think we're in trouble. Harbaugh knows Manuel is his boss, but the thing for Manuel to do is to let Harbaugh do his thing and offer his input when asked, check on things every now and then, but NOT try to run the show like Dave Brandon. You can be a boss and still let your subordinates run the show. It would take Manuel overstepping his position on the football team for Harbaugh to have to play "boss," so again if that happens then Harbaugh won't be here long because Manuel more than likely won't react positively to that.
I will add that I don't see this happening.

I actually think it may have the reverse effect if other schools like Valpo use this same strategy. |9 weeks 3 days ago||I kind of agree with you||
I kind of agree with you there, but if you read the article and the comments here the thoughts are directed towards Calipari taking advantage of a rule that had not been taken advantage of publicly until now, creating a "recruiting advantage," and therefore his name is now attached to it. Some might call that a "loophole" in some sense of the word.
|9 weeks 3 days ago||Despite how my comment above||
Despite how my comment above may come across, I completely agree with what you're saying. And of all the things that Calipari has done in the past that have the potential to be frowned upon, this is definitely not one of those. This only benefits the kids.
I guess my main "argument" was over the article written that explained this as a recruiting advantage. I don't see it as that unless you're just arguing the point of "hey, look at me, I'm always ahead of the game," for which I think is a good/logical argument just as it would be a good argument for Harbaugh.
|9 weeks 3 days ago||The difference between what||
The difference between what Harbaugh has done the past two offseasons compared to what Calipari did in this situation is that Calipari did not have to do actual "work" to give him this "advantage." And because of that, what is stopping all the kids from Kansas and Duke and North Carolina and, well, any other school from doing this now that it's out in the open? This isn't exactly a recruiting advantage when all that it requires is to make sure you sign the proper paperwork to get your name in the system - you do not have to be a "Kentucky" player.
Calipari can always be given the name of the one that found the loophole, but that's all this is. And because of that, I think that this loophole could very easily be exploited to the point to where a rule change/exception will be put in place in order to not blow up the system.
All the hoopla with what Harbaugh has done has to do with the fact that it actually does present somewhat of an advantage to Michigan for being able to set up camps/practices at these locations and therefore presents a threat to other schools. Not only that, but it takes a LOT of preparation and hard work to make those things happen, which has been a known argument by particular coaches as to why they should be outlawed (absense of free time/vacation).
I do think Calipari is one to take the Harbaugh approach of discovering loopholes and using them to his advantage, but this is one that I have a hard time calling a "recruiting advantage." If it is today, it won't be tomorrow. Props for figuring it out, though.

Hard to argue a lot more when the dude had four fouls at the end of the game, and Wagner made some dumb decisions that got him benched earlier that game and deservedly so.
I say all this to say... Beilein is a much better coach than most are giving him credit for, and I do believe a lot of the issues on this team stemmed from guys not hitting their shots. He's got two bigs who struggle to perform to the level he expects them to, and another kid who's still 18 with a lot of potential. Next season could be a special season if Irvin finds his shot again and X shows up as a "guy." Oh, and if Wagner continues to develop. We will be better than how this season ended, but how much better depends on development and of course injuries.
Also, I'm not sure Duncan got off more than one 3pt shot in the second half when he was clearly feeling it. If he had athleticism closer to Stauskas then maybe he could have created some more shots for himself, but he found his stroke again during the tournaments. It's unfortunate he hasn't been getting as many opportunities to shoot.

He's still teaching him, so I wouldn't say he's really mismanaged the team. Not been perfect but he also did the same thing with McGary until the light turned on for him. And every other game he is the only guy making nearly every layup, so what's your point? That he wasn't his usual near perfect self at the rim? The dude is a magician near the rim. He makes difficult shots against much taller players. Dude is at his best driving to the basket, but I love that he's added some confidence and actual skill from 3pt as well. Continue to develop that and he will be fantastic his next two years - especially after Walton and Irvin leave as he will be one of the top go to guys if not THE go to guy.

Walton's 0 rebounds is the exact antithesis to Wagner's four blocks. Never happens. And Walton has been dishing out a lot more assists lately. This was an off game for him through and through. Do not use this game to make a point regarding his progression. He's a much better player offensively especially.
Super pumped about Wagner's coming out party. Reminded me of McGary's tournament progression his freshman year but with a lesser overall talent. The overall increase in game impact is very similar, however, and hopefully his continued progression these past few games is a sign of things to come for the future. Next year could be real fun if Wagner can push for starters minutes. He plays with a lot more bounce and aggression/enthusiasm. Love watching him play.

I will say this. Barring injuries, you return everyone and get a few additional talented players as freshmen (one in X who will certainly play and is regarded as quite good at playing).
With that in mind, and again barring injuries, there is no way this team doesn't improve next year. Since only a small improvement would result in a tourney appearance knowing that one is still in sight for this season, I don't see any chance Beilein gets fired unless the team gets worse and again doesn't make the tourney (which I don't see happening at all knowing the natural progression of players).
Beilein 100% deserves another season. And I don't really see a way Beilein will get fired unless there's a tire fire of a season next year similar to Hoke's last year. Beilein is a good dude who is well respected at the University who has had very recent major success including B1G titles. That doesn't scream hot seat to me, and I still have faith that regardless of how this season ends that he will lead this team to success next year. Not saying a B1G title, but I expect we will be a lot less grumpy towards the program. The following year will be the real test once Irvin and Walton graduate.

He's not going to be a "random 3 star" by the end of this recruiting cycle, but I see your main point and agree with it. The kid's more than likely going to play, and you know the media will not let the "Ann Arbor kid signed with rival" headline go as long as he sees the field.
Michigan is on some big timers, however, and you can't change up your linebacker priority list based off of location. That being said, Simmons may have been a good option down the road if the guys at the top don't pan out. I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't the end of his recruitment.
|12 weeks 6 days ago||If Beilein wasn't||
If Beilein wasn't "interested" in defense then he wouldn't be talking about it consistently in his pressers. The problem is that defense is not his forte. All head coaches have strengths, and that all coaches hire assistants to help coach up their team (especially in areas that they are not strong in). Do you think year 1 of Harbaugh would have been as effective if he didn't have a Greg Jackson, Greg Mattison, Jedd Fisch to help coach?
Invest in your assistant staff and you will see improvements. Beilein is an offensive genius - everyone who has a meaningful foot in the game knows this fact. He is not known as a defensive guru, and hiring a top of the line assistant who can work on Beilein's weaknesses on defense could provide a major benefit to this team. All you have to do is be willing to let your coaches coach and not pretend that you know everything when in fact you do not. Good coaches know how to do that.

Actually, I will rephrase my statement. Yes, of course they competed. Every team competes when playing another team. You don't have to compete well to compete. To go along with this, MSU may have competed but they didn't win at a rate you are implying. "Win" was the word you were looking for but couldn't say because it would then be a lie. Therefore your argument further supports the notion that at least Beilein can still win games without his best players. Maybe not every game, but enough to warrant a (more than likely) tourney bid.
The seasons Izzo played with the "weird guys," the "weird guys" were back on the bench by the time the tourney hit.

I agree with you there. I always thought his strengths were areas that are lacking overall on this team, so I do think he has a spot. My point was that I just doint see a 25% 3-pt shooting Chatman playing a lot at the 3. He apparently has shown the ability in practice and obviously had some good makes yesterday, so I do think the potential is there, I just think he needs to be given more back-up minutes.
I loved seeing him get those few minutes in the first half, but Beilein for whatever reason didn't give him any minutes in the second half despite his good play. It's hard for guys to improve with comfortability on the court when they can't get game minutes.

Chatman's only real shot at legit minutes is in his senior season after Irvin graduates at this point. He's only a four-position player unless that shot continually develops into a 40%+ 3-pt number to warrant spot minutes at the #3 spot, but I don't really think that's ever going to be his game.
The question is whether he is willing to wait until his senior year to get those minutes or if he wants a shot at starters minutes somewhere else. Barring an Irvin injury, he won't be playing much.
|14 weeks 15 hours ago||Last comment then I'm||
Last comment then I'm closing'r down for the day. This is not the loss that is going to keep this team from making the tournament. If your perspective was that they were probably in before this game (which was the perspective of most experts) then they should still be in after. Michigan does need to steal one more win besides Northwestern to feel comfortable, however, and this was nearly that win. You could even make an argument that this loss actually helped.
That being said, still have a chance at home against Iowa who hasn't been playing as well as earlier this season as well as at a really hot Wisconsin team. If those both end up in losses, probably need two wins in the B1G tournament. Still plenty of chances. I have confidence they can get it done if they play like they did today.

|14 weeks 15 hours ago||Irvin usually makes up for||
Irvin usually makes up for his defensive mistakes. Duncan not so much. The real reason to have Duncan out there is to shoot the ball, but right no he's been playing like that #7 guy who comes off the bench to give the offense a spark. Teams have found a way to stop him, and that's really taken him off his game. He needs to find that in-game confidence again, and a great way to do that is by giving someone else (perhaps even Chatman) a chance. Robinson hasn't proven that he's a 100% starter in big games yet, and for that reason his play should be more performance driven than it has been.
|14 weeks 15 hours ago||Sadly they probably won't||
Sadly they probably won't even want to celebrate because a win is still a loss somehow.
|14 weeks 15 hours ago||Just as annoying are the fans||
Just as annoying are the fans that trash their program with every loss. The real picture of this game is that yeah, the loss sucks and could have really provided a boost to not only their confidence but the Tournament picture as well. However, there are plenty more chances to continually improve and fight. This game was an obviousimprovement over recent losses. This was a close away loss against arguably the most talented team in the B1G and one of the hardest arenas to steal a win, so there is a little pride that is earned in a fight like this.
Again, no reason to leave with a smile on your face and give hugs and kisses claiming "moral victory," but they don't need to be telling each other how bad they suck and how they can't win big games and how they might as well quit this season. More likely than not, this team is going to have a big win before the season is over and then those with the glass completely empty perspective are going to look like a bunch of quitters that don't even deserve to celebrate with the rest of us.

|15 weeks 5 days ago||I agree that it's not a huge||
I agree that it's not a huge question mark. That was my point. But it is a question mark, and Alabama has four+ #1 recruiting classes in a row - we do not. We ended the season strong, but claiming to be the #3 team in the country when the reason our season ended strong was mostly due to QB play is a bit of a stretch when we have to replace said quarterback. I'm not concerned about the QB position, but it would be a reach to assume O'Korn ( or whoever plays QB if for some reason O'Korn doesn't start) will not be a drop off at all, especially at the start of the season.
I expect Michigan to end up as a top 10 team, but I can't roll with the expectations of getting to the playoffs in Harbaughs second year when our toughest games are on the road. I will stick to the conservative 8-10 spot and let Harbaugh do his thing. I'm not saying we can't make the playoffs or finish that strong, but I don't expect it to go that route. Improvement definitely.

... That's five more tourney years than the previous 10 or 15 or however many seasons we were left out in a row. I'd say two of those four misses can be blamed on the terrible state of the program he inherited at the very least. Possibly three.
In all honesty, the one season that I see as a somewhat anomaly as far as performance on the court is this season, and that's with a hurt LeVert even. I don't think Beilein is getting measured fairly at all. Last season's miss involved essentially our top five players (and starters) from the previous season either being hurt or exited via NBA Draft.
I want to see what happens when we have some veteran bigs playing with the addition of some more talented wings/guards coming in with next year's class. The team that has been playing on the court from the start of the conference schedule is the same team that will be on the court next year PLUS Xavier Simpson and Ibi and two actual big tough guys from the 2016 class. While I don't expect the new bigs to be able to contribute much next season, everyone else will be another year stronger, and Simpson looks like the real deal.
If you can't get much improvement out of a team that returns everyone on the current healthy roster plus those new kids, then go ahead next year and start rocking the "Fire Beilein" chants and I won't complain so much. We have already improved quite a bit from last season (in my opinion - see overall record). I expect that we will be a top 25 team next season when all is said and done. I do agree though that the 2017 class needs to have some immediate starters in the fold. Losing Irvin and Walton is going to be a big hurt to this team if Beilein can't win some of these recruiting battles.

Not 100% sure, but I am guessing that the focus has been on football recruiting. Now that the hoops season is closing out and the 2016 football class is signed, I have a feeling we will be hearing about more ranking shifts. This is just my theory though.

Awesome. I was already starting to google search some of these. Thanks! +1 for doing the work for me.

I really do have a feeling that for some reason Jim is loving coaching more than he ever has, and his enthusiasm is coming out. Not to mention he just signed a killer class including Mr. Gary, so I'm sure that's carrying over to today as well.
Then again, I'm not sure we will ever truly understand what's going on in Harbaugh's head. He's one of a kind.

Self-imposed bans have nothing to do with the NCAA's sanctions. They can still laugh in their face over their so-called "ban" and send them to Bolivia if they want to.

I think this is a really big deal. If the NCAA can come up with evidence of all the testimony thrown out there, I think the NCAA might actually lay it on them vs. just giving them a slap on the wrist and accepting this one year ban.
I'm usually skeptical of the NCAA and their discpline tactics, but I see this being viewed a lot closer to the Penn State discipline factors than your standard "money tactics" discipline. This could actually get interesting.

Jehu to me was a bigger surprise than Rudock's progression. Jehu went from a speed guy only to a legit #1 WR who will most definitely get drafted, probably mid round if not earlier depending on how well he does with a new QB... Which to me is insane because expectations were not high at all for him. Without him our offense wouldn't have been near as explosive. He's so much fun to watch. So friggin fast.
