The mgoboard has been making this loss worse for me. I'd rather move on, but the depressing "I give up" atmosphere here since the end of the game is just plain awful. Thankfully you're all not running the program or this season would be a complete tire fire. Way too reactionary.
I hate losing just like the rest of you, especially the way the game ended, but I'm looking forward to seeing how this team will perform under adversity with a fanbase screaming for their coaches heads. At least you know the players love this coaching staff, so I hope this will motivate them to work even harder and beat the piss out of the B10. I'm going to support this team AND coaching staff until the end - Give Nuss time to work on this o-line before you crucify him as well.
On a side note, I actually saw some improvements in our running game. We all knew the O-Line would be a work-in-progress with improvements over the course of the year. Hopefully they improve enough by the time the MSU game comes around.
Looking forward to Saturday's game.

I'm not sure who I like more, but they both looked a lot better than last year. Green in particular. He really seems to have found that burst to hit the hole that was missing last year with that added weight. There was a bit more explosion in his runs. It's one game. I'm much more confident in those fellas running the ball this year.

Not to mention this fella named Serge Ibaka who they drafted late first round, stashed overseas for a year of development, and turned him into a star. They haven't been perfect with all their acquisitions, but they've built an excellent championship caliber team despite their small market stature.

I was sitting on my couch watching that game via ESPN GameCast on my dang computer that whole fourth quarter. I will never forget my reaction to reading the captions on that final play after refreshing the crap out of that thing just praying that freaking field goal would go in.
I can't imagine that it would have been more difficult and heartaching to watch that game live compared to how I was forced to keep up with the stupid game.. having to refresh the page over and over again in frustration while waiting for ESPN to update the dumb thing.
At least this time it's on TV! Ha.

I'd respect him too if it wasn't such a ridiculous thing to throw a "temper tantrum" over. It isn't like Dave Brandon changed the helmet or rose prices 100% or put a Domino's pizza ad in the middle of the football field - He scheduled a football game... with a team that this guy can't stand because of a previous terrible outcome.... Uhhh... I'm sorry, but to me that's just his loss if he chooses not to watch it. It's not that he's a terrible person for doing this, but it does sound exactly what he described it as... a "temper tantrum." In other words... an immature reaction.

|5 weeks 4 days ago||The reason I stated this as a||
The reason I stated this as a "religious discussion" is because religion defined the culture in which this country was founded for which still influences our nation to this day, which resulted in a particular known judgment towards homosexuals. It is because this nation was first a Christian nation that homosexuality has been such a hidden topic for so many years. Over time those viewpoints have been challenged and we are now seeing a rise in acceptance of homosexuality.
That is why this is a religious topic, because if it wasn't for conservative religion this would never have been the hot button issue it is today. Not all Christians or religions see homosexual behavior as immoral, just as not all non-religious people view it as moral. But the fact is that Christianity has always been a reason for why this is now newsworthy because of the culture it helped define, which is what I meant by a religious topic. I didn't mean anything by that other than I just wanted to help make aware the fact that the issue really shouldn't be whether or not we agree with the life he lives but that we should commend him for being real with who he is.
I meant to stop before but I felt like I was being misunderstood, so I apologize if my statements offended anyone. Again, my main point is to bring unity to the idea that no matter what beliefs we have regarding homosexuality, we need to feel compassion for those who feel they need to live in a dark hole to protect themselves from "haters" and acknowledge that this is a very bold and embraceable motion.
Mods, feel free to delete my comments if needed.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||I have learned over time that||
I have learned over time that you are correct about homosexuality not being a choice. The actions are choices, and that is where my moral beliefs kick in. This is where I wanted to stop the discussion because of the boards standards.
All I can add is that I have made an insurmountable amount of immoral choices in my lifetime, so I have no judgment towards sexually active homosexuals. And I will not pretend to understand homosexuality because of the scientifical aspect of it; I am not a homosexual, so there's no way for me to grasp what it's like to be homosexual or to feel a sexual attraction towards another man. And this is the case for every heterosexual male or female regardless of your viewpoints on homosexuality.
I apologize if I stepped overboard the religious discussion, I just wanted to clear that up. This is all I will say from here on out about this. This is such a sensitive topic, and rightfully so. I wish extremists from both sides could choose love over hatred.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||The thing that I don't like||
The thing that I don't like about topics like this is that they become heated and result in a lot of hate towards particlar thoughts/beliefs regarding homosexuality as well as the particular individuals they involve. "Religion" is the main reason why this is such a big deal in the first place, so to say "no religion" should mean that these things should probably not be brought up on the board in the first place only because it restricts comments to one particular viewpoint and prohibits others from expressing themselves.
That being said, despite the fact that I am a proclaimed Christian and have my own views on the subject of homosexuality, one thing I can say for sure is that I am proud of him for allowing himself to come to terms with his homosexuality in that he is not afraid of the decisions he makes and what people think of those decisions. I truly believe that if you make decisions that are regretful and are morally against them yourself, you should do everything in your power to correct those behaviors. If you like the decisions you make and find them moral and just, it is sad to think that you would be forced to contain those beliefs/life choices within yourself and "hide" from the world - So many negative consequences come from that, and I imagine that must be an extremely tough world to live in.
I respect and love those who are real about who they are, and I truly wish those who do not agree with his life choice would still love him for being real about himself and love him for who he is as an individual. Unfortunately, this is not the case most of the time. And that's truly sad and hateful, which is not what "we" are called to be.
I will only go this far in the discussion since this is not a board for "religious discussions," but I do wish those who see this from the other extreme realize that those who have differing opinions on "homosexuality" are not terrible people just like those who practice homosexuality are not terrible people - When it's an issue of hatred towards a particular individual, then it becomes inhumane and unjust regardless of the viewpoint.
I, too, wish for a day where these things don't have to be a huge media event any longer.

If Drake Johnson turns out to be the starter, I'd say that has more to do with his actual skill than the lack of skill from Green and Smith.
The only position group that I feel is questionable is the O-Line. I don't know why, and maybe this is every year and I'm just too excited for the season to start, but I feel like the coaches seem to be a lot more positive about their team as a whole this year. I see that especially from the defensive side, but I feel like I can recall a lot more "need to step up" talk from the O-Line throughout the preseason and during the season last year. Hoke seems to speak positively about specific players on how they're doing, which to me seems to be an improvement.
Not saying we have an All-Big10 line this year based off of what I'm reading, but I'm becoming more optimistic about where things could be. Wait and see I guess... *sigh*

I had similar thoughts. From how I took it, Nuss had limited control of his offense because of Saban, so I think him having full control over our offense might bring a different tempo/style than what we're used to seeing at Alabama.
Also, Borges was given pretty much full rein of the offense at Michigan. Hoke may have taken a little bit more control/guidance at the end, but he always gave Borges his "full trust" in how he ran the offense. I think this is why Nuss was so attracted to Michigan in the first place - He was going to get his shot at running things how he wants to run them.

So what you're saying is... Devin can't predict the future 100% accurately and that upsets you? This wasn't an "I promise I'll take out the garbage today" kind of guarantee.
Question... Would you rather have him say something to the effect of "I don't know what will happen but I will try to make sure we win" or would you rather have him show confidence and drive with a "guarantee" being that he has more control over the offensive performance than any other player on the field?
The thing about that "guarantee" with the win over OSU last year told me that this dude is going to do everything he can to win. You don't guarantee something will happen without doing your best to give it your all because you know the risks of what you're saying. Watching that game, I have no doubt in my mind Devin gave it his all. I honestly couldn't believe he was still going at the end of that game - It was a remarkable game for him.
Him making claims to push Hoke off the hot seat tells me that he is working really freaking hard to improve and make this offense the best it can be. Therefore, I LIKE.

|15 weeks 4 days ago||I frankly don't see how it||
I frankly don't see how it would be so difficult for the NCAA to audit schools on a semi regular basis and take control of academic related problems with "student athletes" if they actually cared about it. To me the NCAA is just as much to blame as the schools themselves.
Money matters too much to the NCAA and college institutions that the fear of losing star athletes due to academic reasons prevents full accountability towards keeping each student athlete under the same kind of academic restrictions and guidelines as other students at those institutions. If the NCAA really wanted to take care of this problem, then do audit testing on actual random players (especially when evidence actually exists in the world that it occurs) and test these academic standards placed on athletes.
I just think this is really bogus and just enhances the reality that college sports is a huge cash cow for schools and the NCAA and only enhances the arguments placed for paying players since money is obviously what drives both organizations.
One of two things needs to be done. Either you start treating student athletes as students first both by the NCAA and each individual institution and be punished for a failing to do so, or you can no longer pretend that athletes are actually students when their money-generating abilities take precedence over their academic potential.

To be honest with you, if there is one team in the NBA that is not only really good but also plays with a plentiful amount of youth minutes.... OKC would be that team.
GRIII may not be a potential starter anytime soon for them, but he could definitely find a role in their rotation. Athleticism is really important to that team, which GRIII most definitely has.

|1 year 10 weeks ago||I used to work with this||
I used to work with this chick who had a major crush on me. One night I decided to hang out with her despite the fact that I knew bad things could happen and could result in an awkward work situation, especially since I didn't find her as marriage material which means it would be more of a one and done situation. (Some of you might still question my hesitation, but when you have a career job and are looking to keep said career job, messing around with random chicks in the office is the worst thing you could do).
So I invite her over, we put on a movie, start talking... I decided that instead of making regretful decisions, I would just talk about making those regretful decisions with her and see how she reacted. Well.... let's just say I about got raped. I finally told her that she needed to go, and the night was over.
Get to work Monday morning (the event happened on a Friday night), and I look at my desk and there is a piece of paper sitting there which I did not leave on Friday. Now I knew this chick liked writing poetry, but I never really knew how much until I read what was written on that paper.
This poem was seriously the most provactive and sexually-explicit poem I had ever written, and it was sitting on my desk and was written about me. I nearly pooped my pants. She even signed off of the poem as "Wild Honey" if that paints any sorta picture.
I still have the poem in a keepsake box, and my wife is even cool enough to not force me to burn it in the fireplace.
I would share the poem, but I have a feeling I'd get banned from here.

Burke to OKC.. I'll take it... coming from someone who essentially lives in OKC.
However, Reggie Jackson is a very solid back-up PG who could probably start for some teams. I'm not so sure the Thunder would be a good home for him only because I'm not sure he'd be guaranteed even the #2 PG job.
Also, on that note, OKC needs a Big. PG should be set if Russell stays healthy, so I just have a hard time seeing them going PG with their pick. I have a harder time seeing him even available at #12, so maybe they just go for the best available if he's still there.
I also wouldn't be surprised if OKC trades up to fill a bigger need since they have another late first round and second round pick.
I just don't see Burke in OKC, even if I like the idea.

I think tragedies like these just put things in perspective as far as priorities. Not just as far as the difference between a new roof and a new house, but also the difference between having a family who's alive and safe and losing a loved one. As you said, houses can be rebuilt, but you can't replace a child/mother/friend. I think the best thing to do in situations like these is to count our blessings, and instead of complaining about the little things in life that seem to not be going our way, find joy in what we've been blessed with and try to learn to not take those blessings for granted.
|1 year 17 weeks ago||Yeah, they are going to||
Yeah, they are going to rebuild. Moore generally has lower property taxes and a much cheaper cost of living than a community like Edmond north of OKC. It also doesn't have the crime of South OKC, so people tend to like the area more for those reasons.
|1 year 17 weeks ago||I live in the Edmond/Oklahoma||
I live in the Edmond/Oklahoma City year - moved here about 4 years ago. It seems as if every "devastating" tornado that has hit the metro area since I've lived here carved a path right through Moore. Not growing up here but living here long enough to know a bit about Oklahoma's tornado history, I would never move to Moore. It's just one big bullseye.
On a side note in talks of damage/lives lost, Moore had about a 20 minute heads up that the tornado was coming. News feeds and weather updates are heavy and frequent in this area when it comes to tornadoes, and my crew at work was already watching the TV even before the tornado hit outside of Moore. Almost everyone should have known it was on its way, and more than likely 100+ lives will be lost from this one tornado. Back in the day, they had no warnings; if they weren't looking up in the sky, they probably had no clue one was coming. I feel that if we still lived in that age today, the lives lost today would have been WAY worse - possibly hitting that #1 spot for most lives lost. The damage from this thing is unbelievable. Everyone who lives in this area can feel this one, and we all know someone who this has affected. It's just crazy.

OMG PEPPERS IS COMMITTING TO UM AHHHHHHH
|1 year 19 weeks ago||Not exactly the same||
Not exactly the same situation. The state of Oklahoma has a pretty solid base of recruits every year, almost comparable to Michigan. Then there's Texas, its border state, which is one of the 3 biggest recruiting states in the country. Texas may be large and spread out, but Michigan's recruiting spread is very comparable to Oklahoma's spread. Nebraska is literally in the middle of nowhere.
Here's a list of Nebraska's border states:
South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming.
You could maybe include Missouri, which is probably the best recruiting state among those remotely close to them (Missouri or Colorado). Not to mention that the state of Nebraska isn't exactly known for it's elite football either. Sure, some eliteish guys can pop up here and there, but not near as frequent as even states like Michigan or Oklahoma.
Short story: The current recruiting trend does not assist Nebraska in any way.

|1 year 22 weeks ago||The reason I wouldn't worry||
The reason I wouldn't worry about this is the fact that Beilein is really good at making changes if necessary. If his initial plan isn't working as he'd hoped, he won't just sit on it and hope the team improves individually if better options are available. College basketball is a game where multiple lineups work, particularly situational lineups. Some games might work best with McGary at the 4 while other match ups might ask for more athleticism, and Beilein has proven to understand this (especially this past season). Not worried about it at all.

If you had troubles focusing on the game because they were in attendance and were getting too much "attention" (in your opinion), my guess is you are taking this situation way too personally. Those of you who are freaking out that this will steal Treadwell's spot, well if you don't friggin' remember..... Treadwell just announced last week(?) that he's taking an OFFICIAL to Michigan. I highly doubt the coaches would give up on Treadwell after that announcement, and if this commitment would really hurt our shot with him, I feel like the coaches maybe would have held off a little longer before offering Da'Mario. We still could snag all three elite recruits, and this hurts them none.
So just shut your traps, and welcome our new friend, Da'Mario Jones. He could be The Threat 2.0 but 6 inches taller, you never know. I have high hopes for the kid, especially if he's a slot type; fyi WE NEED THOSE.

OK, Gerg, We're the freakin' Wolverines, are we not? Why not use a wolverine instead of a beaver while acting as our d-coordinator at least? If you personally believe beavers are better, then I can't blame you for using them while coaching for any of your other teams. However, if I was a wolverine.. I'd take it very harshly that you used a beaver instead of one of my own while coaching the Wolverines. I mean, it doesn't make sense really. If we were the Michigan Ducks, I'd understand. I'm sure a beaver could kill a duck quite handily. But a wolverine would absolutely DESTROY a beaver. I honestly think more people would have understood him if he used a wolverine instead of a beaver to help motivate our defense, and honestly.. he might have even received some props for that.
EVERYTHING MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE NOW.

My girlfriend has epilepsy as well (controlled through medications), and she was forced to take anxiety medications since stress was a major reason for why her seizures came back a few years ago. From what I understand about coaching... stress would seem to be quite common in the industry. So between fatigue and stress, I would say being a NCAA Division 1 BCS-level coach is probably not the most ideal job for someone who has problems with seizures. Not saying he should quit, but I wouldn't expect his condition to get much better while he remains a coach. Pretty sad, indeed.

FYI, Dave Brandon played this one right. From a marketing perspective, this was pure gold and essentially handed to him. Not to mention that it was quite the charitable thing to do (and extremely cool).

|2 years 1 week ago||From what I could see...||
From what I could see... Frank Clark didn't start last week. It's possible that instead of just suspending him for game after game, you could slowly give him more playing time as he earns it. I'm not saying Hoke will use this method, but I think this method could work on certain occasions.
And whether he plays or not, Hoke is clearly disciplining the kid. He's earned my trust enough to know that when he says something, he means it. I personally feel like the fact that Hoke benched both Touissant and Clark for the Alabama game and not a UMASS type game is definitely telling that not only did he take both of their situations seriously (and put teaching them in front of his own desire to win games), I think that there is probably more to the story than any of us knows with Clark since both suspensions were for the one game. We know Touissant's story; Clark's actions are the ones that are unclear. I'm not saying you can compare the two either way, but I am saying that you can compare the suspensions - both one game - and maybe come up with a conclusion that it might not be as severe as it first sounded. But again, it's hard to conclude with much without the full story.
No matter what, I trust Hoke. He's legit. It shows through what recruits and players have to say about him, and it shows through his interviews. I have a hard time believing anyone can look at Brady Hoke and just plain dislike the guy. He's classy, and he's highly respectable among other coaches. In fact, I've heard OSU fans say good things about him. You won't hear Michigan fans saying things like that about Tressel or Dantonio too often.
Point being, I'm not concerned about this at all. Let him do the coaching and the teaching, and we will most definitely see his discipline structure as time passes. Players will continue to make mistakes. It happens to everyone. Let us judge when more evidence is available.

I will honestly say that the few occurrences post-slaughterdome where I had a smile on my face involved Norfleet returning the ball. That was the only up-side to Alabama scoring A LOT. And Brian did very minimal to help with my giddyness over the kid. It's mostly due to my current fixation on recruiting and the fact that he was the one kid who was offered and committed on national signing day. He instantly became famous because he was "that guy" as well as the fact that he's a "local." AND that he's essentially Darren Sproles, who of course everyone loves.

Treadwell has consistently claimed Michigan as his #1 and has yet to change his stance on that matter, and it seems the only competition we have for Green is Auburn (also must note that Dawson has tweeted consistently that he thinks Green is coming to Michigan, most recent being this weekend). AND Mcquay, the only dude who doesn't have Michigan is his top three (who did before we sort of told him we were full at the moment), well... his top 3 is currently USC (presumably full at 18), Vandy (5 DB commits), and FSU (the team who replaced Michigan). I think that of the three, McQuay is the least likely to commit, but I still think there's a pretty good shot at that one, especially since he is planning on an official to Michigan per Tremendous today.
