Only problem I have is that we essentially will have to go undefeated to get into the playoffs. Terrible non-conference slate does that for you when compared to other top teams around the country.
And while that makes it easier to go undefeated, and while our toughest games are later on in the conference schedule (and therefore once individual improvements are made ie QB), I still have a hard time seeing us go undefeated. If the Ohio St. game was at home with this same schedule, I could be more confident. I just can't call that game a win regardless of the turnover at OSU, and therefore I do not expect to make the playoffs let alone the national championship game. I DO, however, expect to be in the conversation and part of a playoff controversy that ultimately ends in being left out due to strength of schedule.
Either way, it should be a fun season.

|2 weeks 17 hours ago||Here's a list of 3 shows I am||
Here's a list of 3 shows I am either into right now or haven't seen talked about much...
1) Daredevil on Netflix - Talked about a little, but it's fantastic. In the middle of season 2 right now.
2) Luther - One of the best crime dramas I've ever seen. Has a little bit of 24 in it in that Luther (the main character) straddles the fence quite often with how he handles his police work. MUCH darker than 24, however, and a lot more in your face. Very dark British crime series. Only a few episodes a season ala Sherlock.
3) Longmire - I have not seen this one discussed AT ALL, which to me is a shame. The wife and I are currently in the middle of season 4, and each season gets better and better. Starts off in season 1 almost like a Western CSI set in today's time where each episode is just a "case of the day" type show. Similar to other shows like this, character development grows throughout that first season and a sort of "theme" develops, but you can almost watch the episodes in random order. Starting in season 2, however, you see that there's more of an actual storyline that plays out throughout the season, and it carries forward all through the series. There tends to be a "case of the day" pretty much every episode, but most of the time they intertwine with the main theme of the show. I believe Netflix took over in season 4 (maybe 3), and you can start seeing the change towards a more dark and intense drama.
All that being said, even though I make season 1 sound boring compare to the rest, it's really not. The characters are fantastic, and there's a lot of unknown/mystery to Longmire's character in particular that isn't revealed until really season 2. It all meshes well together even though you can see the changes throughout the series. It's a fantastic series, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys crime/mystery dramas. I find that season 1 is definitely the weakest, but seasons 3 and 4 are incredible in my opinion.

And not because of anything explicit or male hormone-inducing crap that turned her off and me not, but I just happened to find it hilarious and she didn't as much. I expected torture and instead received a boat load of laughs. Love it when that happens (not often with shows involving the wife, which is probably why she stopped watching anyway).

|2 weeks 18 hours ago||I'm slowly scrolling through||
I'm slowly scrolling through the board, so this might already be touched on, but Warde's reason for dropping Arkansas involved assuring that there was a balance of 7 home games per season (otherwise it would have been 8 in 2018 and 6 in 2019).
This is another reason why despite the understanding that Warde also wants to re-balance the MSU/OSU games as far as home/away goes, I doubt it will occur by the 2018 season.

This is just further proof that the Dave Brandon Era is behind us. He did everything he could to squeeze as much dollar bills into the program as he could. Breathe of fresh air to see Manuel not look at the $$ on this one. But in all honesty, there's a good chance that the $2 mil is generated just because it's the revival of the series. Might honestly be the most talked about game in 2018.
Also, I think you are forgetting that 2018 is still two years away. You may feel a bit differently in two years when the game actually occurs. A lot of time will pass before then.

|2 weeks 4 days ago||I am not disagreeing with you||
I am not disagreeing with you at all. Westbrook just never had that same name here, which I knew would ultimately force him to leave when the time was right. Westbrook had to work harder and prove more to get the attention Durant was receiving, but he never was looked at in the same light. When the Sonics came here, Durant was THE GUY and the only guy. Noone expected Westbrook to turn into the player he has become, and because of that he was never seen as the face of this city with Durant. It's pretty sad now that Durant is gone. I wonder how Presti will keep the fans at the stadium and recover the lost momentum from Durants exit. Theven Thunder are still a playoff team and a good one as long as they keep Westbrook, but as others have said, I wouldn't be surprised if he's trade bait this season as hope is pretty small that he would stay even if he is THE guy at OKC.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Kevin Durant was the face of||
Kevin Durant was the face of Oklahoma City. Having lived here for his entire playing career in OKC, this is hard to believe and won't be taken kindly to his lifelong fans. He obviously wasn't born here like Lebron in Cleveland when he left, but I expect that the reaction will be something at least similar. He was expected to at least give it one more year until Westbrook's contract expired, especially after nearly making the Finals this season. Really shocked to hear this.

|3 weeks 1 day ago||Agreed. Perry was a true||
Agreed. Perry was a true freshman WR last year, and as has been discussed frequently the WR position is one of the toughest to lock down and contribute as a freshman.
Perry really came on near the very tail end of the season, especially in the bowl game. Again, as a TRUE freshman. Dude still has three years left to play and will assuredly get better over time.
If Perry starts over these highly talented freshmen, that will not be a knock on the freshmen. I no longer expect Perry to have any games similar to Utah. He also showed promise as a blocking WR, and that was the one thing he did extremely well at times in the Utah game. I think we will see Perry play with either a McDoom or Johnson on the outside if all pan out as top options. I wouldn't expect Perry to just all of a sudden hit the bench unless he does something dumb that requires disciplinary actions or shows a lack of motivation/toughness compared to the other guys. Again, Perry seems to be a guy who impresses coaches based off his freshman contributions and probably means that he is a "hard work" kid Harbaugh in particular covets - I think Perry will be a name we hear a lot before he leaves.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Someone correct me if I'm||
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he retracted this statement a bit from his first blow-up "no night games" comment.
If I remember correctly, he mentioned that he was only referring to the 2016 season as if to say that in the future there will be night games again at the Big House.
His "retraction" may have been mostly due to the high amount of criticism from his comment, but this would be a good example of how Warde is listening to the fans a bit before pulling a Brandon and doing what he wants to do just because he wants it his way. Even if he meant what he said initially, to see him possibly go back on that due to the realiztion that his wishes may not be in the best interest of the school/fans is a major plus. I was really happy to hear him say what he did even if he did intiially mean 100% of what it sounded like (no night games ever).

He had a conversation 1-on-1 with Lawrence Marshall, and he made it clear that he's known him since his Sophomore year of high school.
Essentially Sam threw out a comment to Marshall about how he looks different or something like that, referring to his weight gain (up to 270+). Marshall then proceeded to say something like "yeah, but that's not all that's changed. I'm a grown man now" - again, not referring to weight but maturity.
Sam said he could tell that something was different about Marshall with how he talked as if he learned from what put him in the dog house. I'm guessing that the "Marshall on two-deep" bit actually came from the coaches or he wouldn't have used the "gut feeling" on that one. Sounds like the coaches are seeing a difference in him as well.

Regardless, they still have plans for their incoming freshmen before they arrive. They have a pretty good idea of how talented they are, and for the most part use fall camp to test that knowledge/verify their assumptions. Yes, every position is under fire, but that doesn't mean they go into fall camp blind as to what they'd like to accomplish. Harbaugh prepares for everything - You know their depth chart is always current and edited as no information comes in regardless of the time of year.

|5 weeks 2 days ago||Not really. And by "not||
Not really. And by "not really" I really mean "your assessment is incorrect."
He specifically mentioned on his show this morning that this "gut feeling" was the result of conversations he had with coaches/players at all the satellite camps he attended (which he attended probably 10 so far). He has excellent relationships with essentially the whole coaching staff and current/former players, and therefore has verifiably legit sources.
For those who don't know, whenever Sam mentions a "gut feeling," that means that he has received information first-hand from usually either the individuals themselves or other first-hand sources (i.e. coaches/players/parents/recruits). It's not actually a feeling based off personal observation but instead known facts through legit sources.
Obviously they haven't had fall camp yet, so no this isn't set in stone, but this is up-to-date current information.

It was a crazy few years, but sadly my wife doesn't have the same passion for movies like me. I barely get a chance to watch anything anymore, so it's hard to come up with new favorites when I usually only catch 10 or so films a year now and only get to watch them once.
My best friend who helped me discover that passion (and who I used to write a little with) lives far off from me now, so I don't really have a "movie buddy" anymore. That doesn't help at all. Even started selling off my collection. Sad stuff.

Oh, I wasn't saying that he played better than the +/- showed, I just think that stat line is a bit misleading (Thompson's stat line is proof of that) as there are four other guys on the court at the same time that all had those -43 points collectively. I wasn't going to say anything like that until I looked at both Curry and Thompson's +/-. All three guys generally play together, so I figured they had to be close. Curry had a pretty off game as well.
The worst thing Green did for the Warriors was kick Adams in the nuts for the second time. Crowd went berserk after that play as did the whole Thunder team. If he is sidelined for the next game, that will obviously hurt the Warriors even more. Dumb, dumb play.

That being said, I think the trends are for more athleticism on the team, and I do think that's a good thing. Let's just not get carried away and think he's going to completely change his whole offense.

If you have the time and are looking to cut weight/add lean muscle, P90X will kick your butt and works fantastic. I did it for two years or so as my workouts at home until I finally made myself start going to the gym after getting married (hard to get a workout in with my wife at home). To save time from being away from home, I usually go to the gym over my lunch hour. Sometimes I'm gone for an hour and a half as it's pretty difficult to get a full gym workout in the time span I need to, but it's worth it and hopefully isn't discouraged by your employer. I understand that's not an option for everyone though.
All that being said, if your only option is to work from home, I would again highly recommend P90X or one of the shorter video options like Insanity or some of the others the commenters above recommended. I'm not as familar with most of those, but they work great. Invest $100-$150 on some dumbbells, and you'll be good to go.
#1 thing I would recommend though is to just start eating healthy and drinking healthy. Drink lots of water, cut the soda/sugary crap if that's something you partake in, drink black coffee and eat healthy. While exercise is important, you will find yourself feeling crazy good just by watching what you eat and drink. I was forced to start eating/drinking healthier because of stomach issues, and it's made a world of difference for me.
Here's to whoever read my book!

If Penn State wants to start cleaning up the reputation of that school and convince the public and the media that it's changed and headed in the right direction, it should stop the legal process fighting these claims and settle on an amount, willing to help out the victims as an act of acceptance for what happened and take responsibility for the enabling the university created.
It's not enough that they fired everyone they knew were involved - they need to start taking responsibility. After all, the university hired the people who hired the coaches. You can't just blame the individuals in this situation. The reputation of the university will be forever impaired, and the extent of the damage at this point fully depends on what responsibilities the university takes from here on out. If you live with an understanding of what took place on this campus, unless you're a son or daughter of someone who is a part of the Penn St cult community, I'm not sure why you would want to be associated with this place and place enrollment. This is Penn St's worst nightmare.

I agree... But Breaking Bad doesn't seem to me like a show that would disappoint while given high expectations. Everyone has their thing, but it's literally a near consensus opinion that it's one of the best all time shows ever put on television - with that much evidence, it truly must be a great show. I'm not sure how you could expect more than that to the point where it disappointed you. I watched it because it was talked up by friends as the best thing ever, and I still loved it.
But then again, everyone has their thing.

2017 defense will have some growing pains and will probably be a little more mistake prone, but we have some crazy talented youth that will be playing a lot of minutes (which will be fun to watch by the way). I've seen MSU defenses do great things with less top end talent and just as much youth thanks to coaching. Our coaching will bring these defenses to at least that level even with the youth. We are no longer at a coaching disadvantage.

"Limit the dates." I believe I agree with this. Only issue is that you may be battling with coaches to come up with THE camp for kids to go to since they would only be able to attend camps over a short period of time. Just an initial thought I had, so it may still be the best option.
I will reiterate that I don't believe that camps necessarily need to be limited, but the concern is spread across all conferences. Because of this, I think their voices should be heard as well, and maybe the best outcome is a happy medium.
Just because Harbaugh can't do 30 satellite camps over a span of two months doesn't mean he can't come up with plenty of other fantastic ideas/events for the summer months.

|14 weeks 2 days ago||I love Bill Snyder's comments||
I love Bill Snyder's comments in particular. The reason he sees it as a good thing is that he's afraid it's going to get out of hand with too many camps. So you ban satellite camps in order to prevent 20 different major college coaches from doing 30 different camps a piece... Well the problem is now every single college in America is forced to run their own camp instead of just attending an already existing camp, which will bump up the numbers all in itself. And maybe most schools already do that, but still... How is that fair to schools like Eastern Michigan or South Alabama who now have to compete for campers with Michigan and Alabama?
It's a joke.
However, I think there are enough schools across the board that are concerned about satellite camps in general given the trend it looks like they're headed towards. And because of that I feel that it could be logical to limit the scope of satellite camps to a certain number (5? 10?) per school and it should at the very least be a MUCH better and fairer proposal than a complete elimination. In no way should there even be the option to completely eliminate camps, however. It's a crime against student athletes who are praying for scholarships. The kids who need the scholarships are the same ones that can't afford to go to a bunch of camps seeking offers. Not to mention schools will have to put on camps on the same day as other schools and compete against each other not just for their money but also for their time. Are we going to need a satellite camp recruiting position now?
All that being said, I love Mike Leach for what he said. He's hilarious and spot on.

Well Xavier Sinpson would be considered in the same exact class as Thornton after the transfer redshirt. And you make this comment as if he's not that good of a recruit. He's coming in as a future PG starter. That's what both Beilein and Simpson expect. Not sure how you can't given the current roster (1 senior starting PG then a walk on and a Non-true PG/SG in MAAR). You're risking pissing off Simpson and running him off as well. All guys should want competition, but whoever is the starter of those two wouldn't be the starter for the duration of their careers unless the other gets injured. That would more than likely result in one of those two transferring anyway, wouldn't you think? And I'm pretty sure Thornton wouldn't want to transfer twice.
I'm just saying that I could see why Simpson coming in could affect his desire to go to his past #2 school of choice. Thats all.

I agree with where you're coming from here. When you think about the concerns about OL depth and how three of our O-Line starters will graduate after this year, THAT is concerning to me.
Also, another LBer is gone. Jourdan Lewis is gone. Peppers more than likely gone. There are a lot of fantastic players that are leaving after this season, so I have a hard time not seeing a few bumps and bruises on the 2017 roster.
That being said, I think we are going to see a VERY exciting team in 2017 with a bunch of young talent with excellent potential. May not be a championship team, but I wouldn't put it over Harbaugh's head to turn that team into a championship quality team by year's end.
The one worry with 2017 is will everyone be patient enough to see that team develop. I could see a hickup or two early, and I think we need to understand that Harbaugh's guys will only really be sophomores/freshmen. 2018 is where I believe we truly will see where this team is going to be under Harbaugh regardless of how 2017 ends up.
This season has a LOT to do with the current staff's ability to develop Hoke's recruits. We saw that development last year, so I think there's a lot of reason to still expect a very fun 2017 with some challenges but also successes.

Drew Sharp should be blasted for plagiarizing another author, and we should spread that article like wildfire out for public consumption until the Freep is forced to let him go. I wish there was a much deeper accountability for media writers than I've seen happen with Drew Sharp, and if anyone has the right to call him out on it then I'd say it's most definitely the original author of the content that was plagairized.

Then when your short stint is out, they have your phone number and annoy the holy crap out of you by calling from 18 different numbers (all from different area codes) until you decide to either give in or change your phone number.
I mean, if you have to resort to those tactics to increase paper subscriptions, it's probably time to start moving in a different direction.

|17 weeks 8 hours ago||If it gets to the point where||
If it gets to the point where Harbaugh has to play "boss" then I think we're in trouble. Harbaugh knows Manuel is his boss, but the thing for Manuel to do is to let Harbaugh do his thing and offer his input when asked, check on things every now and then, but NOT try to run the show like Dave Brandon. You can be a boss and still let your subordinates run the show. It would take Manuel overstepping his position on the football team for Harbaugh to have to play "boss," so again if that happens then Harbaugh won't be here long because Manuel more than likely won't react positively to that.
I will add that I don't see this happening.

I actually think it may have the reverse effect if other schools like Valpo use this same strategy. |17 weeks 1 day ago||I kind of agree with you||
I kind of agree with you there, but if you read the article and the comments here the thoughts are directed towards Calipari taking advantage of a rule that had not been taken advantage of publicly until now, creating a "recruiting advantage," and therefore his name is now attached to it. Some might call that a "loophole" in some sense of the word.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||Despite how my comment above||
Despite how my comment above may come across, I completely agree with what you're saying. And of all the things that Calipari has done in the past that have the potential to be frowned upon, this is definitely not one of those. This only benefits the kids.
I guess my main "argument" was over the article written that explained this as a recruiting advantage. I don't see it as that unless you're just arguing the point of "hey, look at me, I'm always ahead of the game," for which I think is a good/logical argument just as it would be a good argument for Harbaugh.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||The difference between what||
The difference between what Harbaugh has done the past two offseasons compared to what Calipari did in this situation is that Calipari did not have to do actual "work" to give him this "advantage." And because of that, what is stopping all the kids from Kansas and Duke and North Carolina and, well, any other school from doing this now that it's out in the open? This isn't exactly a recruiting advantage when all that it requires is to make sure you sign the proper paperwork to get your name in the system - you do not have to be a "Kentucky" player.
Calipari can always be given the name of the one that found the loophole, but that's all this is. And because of that, I think that this loophole could very easily be exploited to the point to where a rule change/exception will be put in place in order to not blow up the system.
All the hoopla with what Harbaugh has done has to do with the fact that it actually does present somewhat of an advantage to Michigan for being able to set up camps/practices at these locations and therefore presents a threat to other schools. Not only that, but it takes a LOT of preparation and hard work to make those things happen, which has been a known argument by particular coaches as to why they should be outlawed (absense of free time/vacation).
I do think Calipari is one to take the Harbaugh approach of discovering loopholes and using them to his advantage, but this is one that I have a hard time calling a "recruiting advantage." If it is today, it won't be tomorrow. Props for figuring it out, though.

|17 weeks 6 days ago||I wouldn't call it an A+||
I wouldn't call it an A+ game, but you are right on the money when you say the players didn't execute that second half. Is it Beilein's fault that guys hit their shots one half but not the other? That's on the players. That being said, Wagner could have used a few more minutes. Hard to argue a lot more when the dude had four fouls at the end of the game, and Wagner made some dumb decisions that got him benched earlier that game and deservedly so.
I say all this to say... Beilein is a much better coach than most are giving him credit for, and I do believe a lot of the issues on this team stemmed from guys not hitting their shots. He's got two bigs who struggle to perform to the level he expects them to, and another kid who's still 18 with a lot of potential. Next season could be a special season if Irvin finds his shot again and X shows up as a "guy." Oh, and if Wagner continues to develop. We will be better than how this season ended, but how much better depends on development and of course injuries.
Also, I'm not sure Duncan got off more than one 3pt shot in the second half when he was clearly feeling it. If he had athleticism closer to Stauskas then maybe he could have created some more shots for himself, but he found his stroke again during the tournaments. It's unfortunate he hasn't been getting as many opportunities to shoot.
