My desire to see turncoats posing as concerned citizens suffer is starting to overtake my disappointment in the football team's performance.
|1 year 46 weeks ago||Before the great concussion witchhunt||
I had really lost confidence in Hoke(because we failed to compete against ND, Utah, and Minnesota), but the longer you drama queens obsess over this, the more and more I'd like to see what Hoke and DB could do with a couple more years of player development.

Tickets are more accessable than they've been since before I was in school(mid 90's). There will be people going to games, taking kids to games who have never been to the big house.

Let's call up Tommy Amaker. We can compare today's Crisler with the one Martin promised to Amaker...in 2001. That computer model he showed Daniel Horton has to be around somewhere in the archives, right?
|1 year 46 weeks ago||He's a better man than I||
I love Michigan football too, but I honestly can not understand why he puts up with this crap. I would have walked up to that group of idiots and given them the "Alright, F-you. Good luck" speech. Taken the family someplace warm for 6 months or so, maybe take the grandkids to Europe. FInd a cozy spot on the beach to watch the rest of the season and laugh at the poor sucker that was dumb enough to take this job. Kick back and watch the world burn. Come back refreshed, maybe take over a division of Apple or Microsoft...Get some nice floor seats at Crisler...maybe next to the governor, and enjoy the house that I helped to build. Sounds about right.

|1 year 46 weeks ago||This week changed my opinions plenty||
But mostly it was the getting owned by Minnesota bit that did the changing.
Now if you asked me how the incident changed my views of the press and the major contributors to this blog...If you all are on fire, you had better hope I've had a lot of diet coke. I mean a lot.
|1 year 46 weeks ago||This. So much this.||
Hoke probably wont survive this year because the team hasn't produced on the football field since his first year.
I feel myself wanting to push back hard on this particular point though, because outrage has been amplified to a ridiculous and insincere level to serve the "Fire Hoke, Fire Brandon" agenda. Makes me a little ill.
What's more, I want this team to succeed. I want this program to succeed. When I see michigan "fans" taking such glee in the team's failures(serving as petty victories for their petty agenda), it makes me pretty angry. It makes me think maybe all those people who say Michigan fans are spoiled and entitled and deserve what they get...maybe there's something to that.
|1 year 46 weeks ago||Game doesn't matter||
It would take a Darius Morris flipthescript GTFOMC win over MSU to save his job now. And it would. But when Hoke's post-mortem is written, there will be 2 bullet points.
1. Winning 11 games was a bad idea. Everyone assumed then that the roster was sufficient for BoMoCarr expectations. Clearly it was not.
2. Guy never recruited a QB(necessary) or a running back(helpful) capable of playing at a B1G level(and that aint what it used to be either).
You can identify a QB. You can recruit a QB. You can develop a QB. There are 3 ways to get there(usually its a combination, but those Mike Hart/Kirk Cousins guys are out there like winning lotto tickets).
It's ugly, but the next guy(whoever it is) should consider stockpiling QB's. Maybe grap 3/class and sort them out 'Bama-style. You're not always going to get lucky, but there are ways to hedge your bets.
|1 year 46 weeks ago||Whether they bring in a new coach or not||
9-4 is a great year for Michigan now. Maybe the new guy brings a quarterback with him, that would cure a lot of ills, but this team is not good at football. Regardless of who is coaching them, they're probably not going to be good for a while. You may want to adjust your expectations to the new normal.
A great year UNDER LLOYD CARR was probably 2 losses or less. That is no longer the case. I believe that may have been the point of this whole thread.
|1 year 46 weeks ago||How much better||
Was Toledo? Didn't they finish 2008 at 3 and 9?
|1 year 46 weeks ago||And what was his record||
Cooper was there for a couple of Moeller years, but I know he was 2 and 10 against Michigan.
|1 year 46 weeks ago||The horror||
App State gets blown up as the worst thing ever for no apparent reason. Plenty of good programs have lost to worse teams. Michigan finished up a 4 year sweep of MSU that year and beat Tebow in a bowl game. That was a damned good year. We may not see its like for a while.
|1 year 47 weeks ago||You've got a great blog||
But your blatant hypocrisy evinces a total lack of self-awareness. This is EXACTLY the type of overblown press coverage you RAILED against when it was coming at the expense of Our Lord and Savior RR. So Bellamy couldn't find his helmet, and Shane was sent in to hand off the ball ONCE under the gun as the playclock was expiring. What terrible harm befell Morris that I missed? Is he suffering terrible PTSD that he was so blatantly put in harms way? For all the coverage there's been, kid must be dead right? At least in a wheel chair for life?
You've become the problem.
|1 year 47 weeks ago||The team is not good||
And I hope like hell they can find a better coach. But who was he supposed to put in? Do you really want to risk Gardner(who for better or worse gives Michigan the best chance to win games in the future) down 30pts? Do you want poor Bellamy to embarass himself further? Poor guy couldn't even find his helmet.. It was a bad situation, granted it was caused by Hoke failing to build a good team, but Brian and Ace have really dragged Hoke's name through the mud. Trashed the man's character. Possibly without cause.
|1 year 47 weeks ago||Meta||
If/When it comes out that Morris was never concussed, do the Mom's basement crowd publish a retraction/apology, or do they hold themselves even less accountable than the toxic mainstream media they so despise? There is a chance that the torch and pitchfork crowd come out looking pretty stupid on this one. The stink of it is, if Michigan keeps losing nobody is going to hold them accountable anyway.
|1 year 47 weeks ago||Agreed||
There is nothing worse than a frontrunner. You support them when they win. You support them when they lose.
"We're gonna believe in each other, we're not gonna criticize each other, we're not gonna talk about each other, we're gonna encourage each other. And when we play as a team, when the old season is over, you and I know, it's gonna be Michigan again, Michigan."
Some of us have forgotten the face of our fathers.
|1 year 47 weeks ago||Warde Manuel is a good guy||
With a really nice family. I think he played for Bo too.
|1 year 47 weeks ago||You don't think you all are overreacting a little?||
Let me preface this by saying I think Brandon should be (covertly) making calls to find a new head coach based entirely on the team's performance this year.
I saw the hit and aftermath on 70 inches of flat panel LED. The television coverage was excellent, if by excellent you mean brutal. But Brady Hoke didn't have access to that. What's more, he was probably a little preoccupied with getting his arse kicked by Minnesota to run down the sideline making sure that every one of his players was hunky dory. We don't know what he saw.
TV coverage also showed Bellamy scrambling furiously trying to find a helmet that fit. Was Hoke supposed to hold his hand too?
Pointing out that Hoke thinks it was targeting, now that he has undoubtedly answered 25,000 questions on the hit, and implying that he meant that he thought that AT THE TIME without that specific knowledge is flat out libelous.
I'm with you guys that if there is a better coach to be had, Brandon needs to find him, but this blog has cried wolf one too many times here, and your credibility is fading.
|1 year 47 weeks ago||Absolutely||
Devin is a great quarterback in something like 1 out of every 4 games. We wont talk about the other three.
|1 year 47 weeks ago||I like it||
It feels like a reset. The team badly needs one of those. Hopefully they rally behind the kid. First team practice reps can only help Shane. It was pretty obvious that Gardner was never going to "get" it. Michigan wasn't headed for the Rose Bowl, so why not build for the future? I like the move regardless of Devin's health. It also shows that the coaching staff cares more about the program(and the kids) than their jobs. Because it could get worse before it gets better.
|1 year 48 weeks ago||WTF||
When did Leonard start dating Ellen Degeneress?
|1 year 48 weeks ago||News flash||
Season tickets don't make economic sense UNLESS you want to support the program.
You can get priority access to OSU and MSU tickets for next year by paying $40 per to see Utah or Minnesota. And fake Dhani Jones sends you email.
It's kind of great. There are now options for big spenders and the middle class. Don't be a hater.
|1 year 48 weeks ago||He's probably coming back. Period.||
Unless a great candidate presents himself(Harbaugh) there is no way Brandon breaks up this coaching staff. With this OC, this DC, and Hoke's recruiting, given time this thing is going to work.
Now to get the fans/media off his back, Hoke has got to get to "10" wins. "10" with the understanding that OSU and MSU count for 3 wins each.
|1 year 49 weeks ago||I bet you couldn't wait||
I bet you couldn't wait to get rid of Lloyd either. How did that work out for you genius?
This is a very talented coaching staff that hasn't put it all together yet. Thank God David Brandon is smarter than you are.
|1 year 50 weeks ago||Well, perhaps the score doesn't tell us much||
But I'd guess that the Notre Dame game tells us more about the quality of various position groups than playing say Eastern, Western or Central. I for one will be watching the line play on both sides of the ball. In most seasons, this is the first game in which Opponent Caveats don't so much apply. If our O line(and receivers) is/are manhandling ND like they did App St(which I certainly don't anticipate) it's going to be a really good year. Hence the intrigue.
|1 year 51 weeks ago||I've got Aaron Rodgers in my ten man||

Michigan's basketball twitter has been off the hook lately. Did I hear that Tom Wywrot was running it? There was a great exchange with Wisconsin's basketball twitter yesterday. I started with Michigan's twitter announcing the Wisconsin game date and that "It's on" and devolved into the faux Prince "Assemble your squad" .gif. And some Shaquille shimmy action. There's some soft-core sparty trolling with the "Take it away, Burke" vine a few posts down. Whoever runs that account needs a raise.

Others of note: Rupp Arena (Kentucky) #1
Phog Allen Fieldhouse(Kansas) #6
Breslin Center(sparty) #17

Here is their write up of Crisler
I wasn't sure if it was already posted or I would have started another thread, but it's nice that other people have noticed how far the facilities have come.

|2 years 4 days ago||A little more info||
"Tomorrow, Friday, August 22 at 19.00, the Stings face the first friendly of the 2014/15 pre-season preparation. For the occasion, the opponent of Mantua will be nothing less than the men's team of the prestigious American University of Michigan.
Among the ranks of Mantua will add the Italian-American Ryan Amoroso, who arrived in Italy in the late morning today.
Michigan is simply one of the best and most constant teams in the history of NCAA Division I as demonstrated by the results obtained in the last two years under the guidance of Coach John Beilein: Final NCAA Tournament in 2013 and victory in the Big Ten (regular season and tournament) with reaching the Elite 8 in the NCAA Tournament in 2014.
The Basketball Valance would like to thank the group of College Basketball Tour who has worked with us in order to better organize the spectacular sporting event between Stings and Wolverines. College Basketball Ball Tour is a partnership program that friendly matches between teams in the American College visit to Italy in the summer, all militants in the NCAA Div 1, organized in important locations on the peninsula.
The event not to be missed is therefore for Friday evening at 19.00, at the Palace of Poggio Rusco, via Giuseppe Garibaldi, to offer free admission. "
--Stings official press release
|2 years 4 days ago||Per Dylan of UMhoops||
"The Stings have recently signed several players with more experience including Aristide Lande, a power forward loaned from top Italian club Virtus Bologna and who played with Italy’s U20 Gold Medal team in 2013, Italian-American center Ryan Amoroso, who averaged 15.3 points and 11.2 rebounds per game last season, and Riccardo Moraschini, an Italian international who played for Virtus Roma (the team that just signed Jordan Morgan) last season, and Robert Fultz, a 32 year old guard with years of experience.
One of the biggest challenges for Michigan will be battling against Mantova’s leader in the front, Johndre Jefferson. Jefferson graduated from South Carolina in 2011 and while he only averaged 2 points and 2 rebounds per game in college, he’s blossomed in Italy. He’s 6-foot-10 and averaged 12.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, shooting 60% from the floor.
Jefferson’s size, experience and athleticism should give Michigan’s frontline all it can handle overseas. " --Dylan, umhoops.comD

MSU previous 4 years(before hire): 22-26
UM previous 4 years(before hire): 24-26
You can START judging the man this year. But building a program takes time.
|2 years 5 days ago||Did you start watching football 3 years ago?||
""8-5 followed by 7-6 is the equivalent major *redacted* for a coach at Michigan"
This statement is devoid of both context and reason. I'll agree STARTING NOW with Hoke's first recruits coming to maturity, back to back 8 and 7 win seasons would be very disappointing. But you can't blame a coach for treading water with guys recruited after 3 and 5 win seasons. NOW there are no excuses. The last 3 years, the good parts(okay, his influence on the defense is debatable) and the bad, reflect Rodriguez's recruiting as much as Hoke's.

Michigan can take it's team to Europe. How many of these kids have been to Rome before? They'll get some practice, see the sights, and finish up with one competitive game(in which I am hoping our post players dont get utterly destroyed). You'd think it would be a pretty great opportunity to point out to a kid on a recruiting trip. And a lot better than NOT practicing at home(the other option).

|2 years 1 week ago||How did Mark and Ricky look?||
Is that a typo, or did Doyle seriously not record a rebound? Did Perugia have any size/skill in the post?
|2 years 1 week ago||Dylan has a great writeup||
He breaks down the competition in Italy here
And talks about how the Basket Academy All Stars game went here
Of particular interest to me:
Mark Donnal pulled down 3 offensive boards. Ricky Doyle had no rebounds whatsoever.
Doyle however took 7 shots and hit on 87% of them. I'll try to get a boxscore with the BAAS stats too.
The bigs are the unknown to me(as is the competition) but that game on the 22'nd against the Mantova Stings should give us some idea of where Michigan stands in the post(Well, without big Max anyway). They've got proven bigs. It should be a good game.
|2 years 1 week ago||Post defense||
Post defense is B-ball's offensive line. If by some miracle it doesn't turn out to be the weakest link, we're looking at another deep tournament run. If they can't keep the post in check and secure their share of boards it could be bubble city.

But yeah, if you Go Blue someone and they are not eating something or talking on the phone(and even that had better be a pretty serious conversation) they are pretty much required to Go Blue you back. Leaving a Go Bluer hanging is a dick move, and will bring nothing but karma driven misfortune not only on that person but the fanbase as a whole.

The secret is swapping between the three.
You can always get economy internet from Comcast for $40. That's regular price. There may be a difference between that and their premium internet, but I cannot tell the difference. Netflix and PS+ still function the same and most of the shadier stuff(front row, losmovies, ice films, etc) are bottlenecked by the website's servers anyway. Then you can switch between the dishes two year agreements every 2 years and keep your total bill under $100.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||From what I can tell||
Basket academy started out as the equivalent of a training center for AAU basketball coaches. Now they run camps and hold tournaments and whatnot(per website and google translate). I was mostly impressed that the video existed at all. I am hoping that minimum I can get a box score for the game to get an indication of big Mark Donnal's game.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||$70||
Internet and the basics are going to run you $70 for a promotional period. Bumping up a tier or two to get the B1G Network may cost you another 10-20.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||Yes and no||
Borges certainly could have put them in a better position to succeed. But Gardner threw a lot of bad picks last year before he turtled. And that O line was terrible. But hey, Mattison and Hoke were able to cobble the defense together with duct table and bailing wire that first year. The D should be legit now. If Nussmeier comes close to that kind of magic with the offense it could be a special year.

3 and 5 win seasons are pretty extreme circumstances. You don't fire a guy without letting his recruits mature. Especially when that coach nearly equalled the win total of his predecessor in his first year. Frankly Your post causes me to question your intelligence. There, I said it.

You're looking at this
|2 years 3 weeks ago||While I agree with your general tone||
Basketball is much, much more disruptive to studies than football.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||You probably should||
If you're strictly looking at the economics of it(and not so much worried about supporting the program) season tickets probably don't make a lot of sense. It's basically a guarantee. If you're willing to spend some time on the internet(and vary seat location), you can probably beat that mgoblue price, even in good years. If you're willing to wait till kickoff, you can get those seats for pennies on the dollar. You're buying security.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||Wow||
Season tickets for $414? That's approaching reasonable. I'm not a (football) season ticket guy. What is the current price point for minimum donation + cost of tickets?
|2 years 3 weeks ago||I see this as a good thing||
Prices and mandatory donations were getting out of hand. At current prices, supply exceeds demand. Hopefully they notice this and scale things back a tad.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||Meh||
Complaining about empty seats is pretty dumb until they're...like...actually empty. Am I the only one that sees 8,000 fewer disinterested students as a net gain? It's not brain surgery, the U will email deals until they sell out(look at basketball $5 promotions, they still pop up despite all the success). Football will still be profitable. The stadium will still have 100k plus, and the world will go on.

I am saying that it is not accurate. And that repeating the meme can do nothing but lend credibility to it, potentially hurting recruiting. And no, things don't have to be true to be used against you by integrity-challenged weasel coaches in ohio.
Hoke is probably a bad year away from being on the hot seat. This also happens to describe about 90% of coaches in revenue generating sports.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||I don't so much have a problem with this post||
But I think this has almost become a meme similar to "Craig James killed 5 hookers". The Brady Hoke Hotseat meme. We all know the dude's job is safe(despite what several reactionary/hyperimpatient idiots are trying so damned hard to make you believe). Even bringing this up is promulgating the meme.
I move for swift and harsh punishment for those who would bring this up in the future(at least until the guy has a losing season).
|2 years 4 weeks ago||Every year there are question marks||
But I dare say there are fewer of those than there have been for the better part of a decade. I don't think "business as usual" (beating ND and splitting OSU/MSU) is an unreasonable goal.

It feels so bizarre that I can't take beating state for a recruit for granted. Looking forward to the day when the "what just happened in sports will always happen" shifts back to the brighter side of the force.
|2 years 6 weeks ago||No Manny or Deshawn?||
That's too bad. Still shaking my head wondering why Peedi isn't in the league.
|2 years 6 weeks ago||Let me address some of your issues||
Your complaints fall under several different headings. The first of which, Petty, covers the noodle, skywriting, seat cushions, and Buttercup. If these things are really important to you, you've got bigger issues than I can address in this forum, though a little Xanax might help.
The second heading would be First World Problems, namely student seating, student pampering, etc. I kid you not, there were kids complaining that they couldn't cheer because they were too far from the field and everyone else was too busy texting. And this was justification for giving students MORE benefits? The sense of entitlement is staggering here. You are not God's special snowflake Timmy. Take your ridiculously underpriced student tickets or don't, but shut your spoiled mouth.
The third, Out Of His Control, comprises the B1G scheduling. Brandon didn't schedule All the decent games on the road this year. He had no say in the matter. I tend to believe most of the issues with selling season tickets stem from this fact(as well as somewhat disappointing football performance over the last two years). Acting like this is Brandon's fault reduces your credibility and weakens your argument.
Oh...and the band didn't go to Jerryworld? That's news to me. Oh wait they did. So you're complaining that you ALMOST had something to complain about. Seems legit.
Actual rational complaints: unjustified price increases, stadium rental ads. I don't like this either. Renting out the stadium feels...commercial. Like renting out a church. And the price increases are painful. I go to fewer games because of it, and while I respect people who support the program with season tickets and seat licenses, it doesn't make sense to me economically, and hasn't for years. For people getting priced out of their lifestyle...yeah, that sucks and I'm not going to try to justify it.
Finally, let me just say, when I read, "God dude, wipe your mouth off already." It makes me think that you're probably not a very good person. It also makes me think that you're probably not all that intelligent. Further, it makes me wonder if you have any knowledge of the concept of irony or indeed hypocrisy. You may want to look into that.

I'm sure firing Dunn, Mahoney, and Jackson all at once was 100% Beilein's idea.
|2 years 6 weeks ago||Let's revisit that again||
At the end of the year. Call me optimistic, but I think this is the year the rubber hits the road. Hoke has brought in some very talented players who are just now reaching maturity.
Also...he's been there 3 years. Whose recruits were he supposed to have used?
|2 years 6 weeks ago||And I would be more sympathetic to your argument||
Had I not stood helplessly as the hypothetical post-nuclear moonscape doomsday twisted hellish alternate universe unfolded before my weeping eyes.
holy freeking balls, dude
I've learned not to take anything for granted.
|2 years 6 weeks ago||I'll admit this||
Borges is a MAC level OC. But he was a guy that Hoke trusted. And he was able to fake competency enough for a year for Michigan to win 11 games. Stop for a moment and consider where another 3 win transition year would have left Michigan football. Don't think it couldn't have happened.
|2 years 6 weeks ago||How so?||
Where exactly is the bias, and which facts have been twisted?
|2 years 6 weeks ago||Maybe this is the time to milk the cow||
There is reason to believe that the current model for revenue sports is about to end. Maybe Brandon is positioning Michigan to succeed in the brave new world to come. Is it possible that funds for the facilities that Brandon is upgrading like gangbusters could dry up in the future? I don't know. I think there is a very real possibility that he might have a better grasp on the situation than we do.
As far as the price increases go...Yeah. Premium basketball games at $60 minimum is pretty ridiculous. But when it comes down to it, I'd rather watch them win on 70 inches of LED than watch them lose in Crisler.
|2 years 6 weeks ago||In truth||
In truth Beilein's staff has changed considerably(from when the heat was on). It has been a VERY positive change. And I tend to believe that turning over his entire staff probably wasn't Beilein's idea.

Thanks for throwing this misinformation back out there, just in case the recruits might have missed it the first time. Gold star for you. Paint chips sure are tasty, no?

Izzo is returning (on paper) http://mgoblog.com/diaries/tom-izzo-and-more-less-fallacy his worst team ever. If they think Michigan dominated them for the last four years(6 out of 9), wait till they see the next four.

I have to admit that soccer previews are about as interesting to me as my fantasy football scores are to you, but what kind of bank are we talking about? How do their salaries compare to the NFL? (I picked them because I think hey probably employ he most professional athletes)
|2 years 16 weeks ago||I used the "fired" metaphor||
But is a deeply flawed one. We are talking about a seizure of property. A seizure that is occurring in the absence of a crime or any admissible wrongdoing. You talk about the NBA "losing profits" but you fail to realize that they are HIS profits. Someone said that he might have lost 10% of his profits when their sponsors pulled out. They're still raking in money, that argument just doesn't hold water. What percentage of that does the NBA even get?
I am curious about who is paying Blake Griffin's salary in the interim. They can really just seize his business and spend his money as they see fit?
|2 years 16 weeks ago||I am going to guess||
I am going to guess that it protects against prosecution for beliefs too. The difference being that while we may not agree with Judaic beliefs, we at least respect them. That is not the case with Mr. Sterling. But who decides which beliefs we are going to protect? Do we appoint a Ministry of Religion? Maybe a catch all Ministry of beliefs to decide for us? Just so we're clear, are we going to force the thought criminals into re-education camps, or just disappear them?
|2 years 16 weeks ago||So let's say I own a restaurant||
Unwittingly I move to an anti-Semite neighborhood. Business has really slowed since the local patrons found out that the majority of my staff is Jewish. My establishment is suffering because of the local perception of my staff's beliefs. So you're saying that if I fire them, they don't have a case for wrongful termination?
|2 years 16 weeks ago||An association can make all the rules in the world||
They can be spelled out to a T. They could demand in writing that all owners wear red polka dots on alternating Tuesdays. But if those rules infringe on a person's pursuit of life, liberty and happiness they will be overturned in a heartbeat. You cannot punish a person for what they think. There is not a chance that this holds up in court. God help us all if it does.
|2 years 16 weeks ago||I don't like Sterling||
I don't feel even a little bit bad for him. But I really don't like where we're heading here. This is straight out of 1984. Thought police. He didn't violate anyone's rights .
You cannot punish a person for what they think,
no matter how vile you find those thoughts.
Do you have any friends? Do you ever "give them the business"? Are any of your friends black? I can tell you that I have said(in fun) some vile, vile things to black/hispanic/asian friends in response to some vile, vile things they have said about people of my race/occupation/upbringing. Those were some of the largest belly laughs we've had. Now what if that bar had been wiretapped.
All that surprise and relief we shared because we could laugh about this stuff...That gets taken out of context, we could find ourselves out of a job and ostrasized. How would you like it if everyone who had an axe to grind with you wiretapped your home, your locker room, the bar you hang out at? That is the precedent we're looking at.
People should and CAN only be judged by what they do. Just as an example...I can think of at least one couple of importance in this country who...Let's say it's not very hard to find evidence that they don't think much of white people. Let's say that these people were long time followers of a known bigot. That said bigot married them and baptized their children. Should that couple be removed from their place of importance because of how we interpret what they think? Can we?
The answer is no. I am no lawyer, but common sense tells me the guy is going to sue the NBA and win. He'll probably fire the payroll department and declare that everyone in the organization be paid by personal check signed "Donald Sterling, your Daddy".
The NBA probably had to do what they did as a PR move so the players wouldn't strike and the media can just blame the Legal System when they give him his team and privelidges back. People seem to think the guy is an "employee" of the NBA, and that he can be fired. Thing is, its his team. He owns it. This is more like getting evicted by your homeowner's association. I'm pretty sure if he wants to run the team back into the ground that's his perogative.
|2 years 17 weeks ago||Yeah...||
I'm rather doubting you will ever again hear that about Max again either. Trey was unguardable. I cannot recall another Michigan player who fit that bill.
|2 years 17 weeks ago||Max is a pretty decent defender and rebounder||
I remember he had a nice game against Illinois(last year). He just seems to lack confidence in his bunnies and put-backs(this year). I guess he hits a lot of 3's in practice. I'd just like him to get comfortable around the basket, maybe work on rolling hard to the basket and finishing. Short Graham Brown is what we need from him, and he may be able to deliver.

|2 years 17 weeks ago||Some dude||
Some dude said Mitch told some girls he knows that Mitch said he's going to declare for the draft mid-week. Some other dude said Mitch wasn't there for his psych final. Some other people excited to see Mitch enjoying Ann Arbor night life...The last of which I took as a good sign. All you hear from Nik and GR3 is who they are training with and how they are preparing...Mitch doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would just pee away a semester of work for no reason...But who knows.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||One thing is for sure||
If I hear one more brain-dead 12 year old spouting off that "1 More back injury and his career is over" I am going to vomit. Dumbest thing I have ever heard. If you can help an NBA team win, you're going to make a roster. Period. A second round pick is basically a camp invite(and usually a ticket to the DL). And as a worst case scenario, there will be one of those waiting for Mitch whenever he gets out no matter how many procedures he undergoes.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Anthony Wright||
Anthony Wright thinks he is gone. Does Ant even talk with Mitch? Good question.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||The thing with Mitch||
All the secrecy about his back is pointless. NBA GM's are going to want to see X-Rays and medical reports before they draft him.
Whenever Mitch jumps, where he goes will be determined by A. What he has shown(an excellent tournament) vs. B. health risk factor(which we wont know but NBA GM's will.)
The argument for staying is that you can boost A substantially. We don't(and wont) have a value for B unless things go very very badly.
Things going very very badly is the argument for going.

|2 years 19 weeks ago||This would've made a lot of sense last year||
But Deshawn Sims hasn't been able to crack a regular season roster. I can't think of a single thing GR3 can do better than Deshawn. He could've cashed in last year, but without some development(and without a guaranteed contract) he is at a great risk of washing out and ending up in Europe.

|2 years 19 weeks ago||Yeah...||
You watch the video...Those put backs all have one thing in common. #15 standing around not boxing out. I didn't want to say anything but that was the difference in the game. Wish the officials hadn't kept JMo on the bench.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||If Mitch comes back||
If Mitch comes back Horford's departure really won't matter. Last week Mitch said he wasn't "ready to compete on that next level" yet. That may be referencing his injury(in which case he wasn't ready to compete at THIS level) but it makes me think we might be alright here.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Well...||
People who COMMENT on her twitter as if they know her are indeed a little different...But seriously, you're on a Michigan blog. How much time do you spend here? People start public twitter accounts to see how many followers they can snag. Otherwise they'd keep them private(and some people have both). You don't think Brian(or someone on the staff) has been monitoring friends and family twitter accounts?

|2 years 19 weeks ago||Judging from his sister's tweet||
He has been considering this at least since the 30'th. I guess Jon's trainer said he wasn't thrilled with Jon's playing time. Lots of possibilities now. Does Booker stick with Kentucky if Calipari leaves? Does Beilein take another late bloomer?
|2 years 19 weeks ago||What makes you think||
What makes you think it was JB's decision? It seems unlikely...but could that mean that JB thinks EVERYONE is coming back? Because if your premise is true, that's really the only thing that makes sense.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Horford's sister||
Horford's sister tweeted out something like "I hope you'll root for John what ever colors he is wearing next year" like a week ago, so I'm not that surprised. I wish him well, but I don't know if his existential angst was ever going to provide the necessary motivation to eat, lift,(box out) and battle at this level.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||I don't get it||
Mostly he makes me think of Kentucky putback dunks. That makes me think about Jmo officiating anger. Then I think about chocolate cake. Always with ice cream. French Vanilla.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Yeah I don't get that||
"Pay no attention to what I am about to say" raises some questions about your motivations for tweeting
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Fairly standard||
I don't think you can read much into this. There are many, many tea leaves in twitter that suggest Nik is gone. But you don't know until you know.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||It's tough to say||
If this really is his first time playing organized ball, it's tough to say what he could become. He'll be a project wherever he goes, but I certainly wouldn't declare a ceiling for the young man.

|2 years 19 weeks ago||You may be right||
But I don't really see the benefit in you spelling it out.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Did you even read my post?||
"The idea that they don't play defense in the NBA is one of the single worst sports myths that exists. It's totally embarrassing every time someone pushes this tripe"
First off, a cursory glance at statistics shows the nba's decline in defensive efficiency(points per 100 posessions).
Year Defensive Efficiency Best Team Worst Team
2013 97 109
2012 97 109
2011 95 107
2010 97 110
2009 100 110
2008 99 112
2007 82 96
2006 82 95
2005 84 97
2004 82 96
2003 79 94
2002 81 93
The numbers tell the story. The best defensive team today(97 points per 100 posessions) is less effective than the worst defensive team(95 points per 100) from when Shannon Brown was drafted in 2006.
And yeah, 2010 will go down as one of biggest coaching failures in program history(2010: 4* 5 *(RS 53) First Round ) but they still had a TON of talent on the roster. I believe they gave Izzo B1G coach of the year the next year based entirely on how totally inept he'd been the year before. Looking at next year...there's just nobody left. Do you really think playing Trice for 30 minutes is going to work out? Who is he going to guard?
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Hatch could very well be JBart part 2||
I don't want to lose Nik, but I really hope Hatch doesn't have to medical. I think he's capable of coming in and being a leader on the bench right now like Josh was. And would anything be sweeter than watching Austin drop a 3 in garbage time at the Breslin? I think not.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Interesting article||
Glad he went with JBart's dad(if true). Interesting about the summer snub. I LOL'd when I read he was snubbed for not changing his body in prep for the NBA
They might want to rethink their position. Sounds like the decision burned them pretty good in competition too. Good.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||That is a fair question||
I think it was the Adreian Payne bit at the slam dunk contest that put this particular itchy sensation behind my eyeballs. Just the huge and widening gap between media perception and reality. Payne is quite the humanitarian. Lord knows a college athlete has never befriended a kid with cancer before.
And yes, the general level of Izzo fellating that goes on in the media has a cumulative effect. I understand that in the past Izzo's teams have exceeded their seed. In the glory days, it worked like this: Non-conference MSU lays an egg. MSU rallies in conference by mugging players on the perimeter, not allowing teams to run conventional offense. Middling seed. Whistles swallowed in tournament, MSU thugball advances over more skilled teams. Rinse and repeat. Fortunately, the game just isn't played that way anymore.
Thing is, the media didn't get that memo. And we get talking heads predicting an MSU championship every year for no other reason than "Izzo is magic". You've got local media proclaiming MSU teams(who haven't done anything) that Michigan has swept as being better for the same reason. It wears on you after a while.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Golf and bowling||
Golf and bowling are great sports to play for several reasons:
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Aside from Kansas||
I feel like Michigan has had enough to win the whole thing for the last two years(Some of you scoffed at the idea before the tourney last year, but 5 points is pretty darned close). But aside from Kansas, the ball just hasn't bounced our way. I feel like if McGary stays(a big if) Michigan would have as good a shot as anyone to bring home the hardware. In my opinion it would be Michigan's best shot yet.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Very sad||
Not to thread jack, but I haven't heard anything about Rory in a while(The kid Josh and JMo kind of adopted from Mott)? I haven't heard any updates since Bartlestein graduated and the blog ended.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Ba on senior night||
I remember Ba battling with a heralded OSU(were they ranked#1?) big on senior night(Oden maybe?) and being surprised by his efforts. I think that might have been the game where Courtney missed the dunk that would have saved Amaker's job.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Nope||
One is your very attractive fallout shelter-er-concourse(taken before one of MSU's 3 victories unfortunately). Two is a shot of my actual seats at said event. Three was stolen from a Buckeye posting board, entitled "Singing the fight song in the Breslin tunnel". I can remember a shot of Beilein getting interviewed in the same "abandoned warehouse" tunnel post-game, but I just couldn't find it. Hence the theft.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||If I had a dollar||
If I had a dollar for every time a talking head has pointed out that Izzo is "Doing it without NBA talent" I'd buy out the Breslin and pay homeless people to root for the other team. Thing is, they sure look like NBA talent when they get on campus. What happens after that?
Gary Harris is your exception, and he is a great, great basketball player, but his growth under Izzo can best be summed up as "Push off before you shoot and you wont get the ball spiked back into your face". I feel fairly confident that I could have coached Gary Harris to the NBA in two years. Might have been less prone to foul out on the next level too.

|2 years 20 weeks ago||"Msu went S16, S16, S16, E8||
"Msu went S16, S16, S16, E8 the last four years" Well no, in Payne's freshman year(one of the most talented teams Izzo has had) they went out in the first round. And seriously, look at the teams they beat to get to the Sweet 16. Before Virginia, they hadn't beaten a ranked team in 4 years of NCAA tournaments. And Alan Anderson is considerably older than Shannon Brown.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||I brought that on myself||
I started the little project as a simple analysis of recruiting numbers...But that sparked up the leftover whenstatewasgood hate. People around here expect fair and balanced. They're not going to get that from me when it comes to Izzo(Or anywhere else really).
|2 years 20 weeks ago||That's kind of the point||
Izzo has never had a poor talent year. I dont think he'll do well with it, and if history is any indication I doubt any member of the current team will see a Final 4 in a non-spectator fashion. This was also the point.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Nah||
It's a tad on the controversial side to go into a diary. Obviously if people dont have time to read it they dont have to.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Amaker had those two great classes back to back||
(Horton, Les, Graham, Hunter, Courtney, Dion, Petway) but then his recruiting really dropped off. That led to a non-existent bench. If he'd just hit on another of his point guard targets I feel sure he would have broken through. Amaker wasn't great at teaching fundamentals(Watching Michigan's turnovers in the era would surely turn Beilein's hair white) and when Horton was injured or suspended or getting a breather there was just nobody to put in for him.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Does that mean||
Does that mean Dave is paying his salary out of pocket? That would be pretty nice of him.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||On a more interesting note||
Can anyone help me out with twitter emoticons? What does two hands making a field goal post mean? Or the red "100"? Strictly context driven?
