|41 weeks 4 days ago||The last paragraphs are||
The last paragraphs are fascinating. We're fine with sex now, but death, disability, and race are the new areas of high offense? I tend to believe that. Fuck fuckity fucking cunt. But dare somebody say "nigger", "chink" "polack", "retard", etc, people get offended.
Not to say which of the above words are right or wrong, but it is fascinating that, even as our language gets more free in some areas (sex), it gets more constrained in others (race). Does swearing cease to be swearing if it ceases to be offensive? And if so, do people who think "yeah I'm fine with swearing" really mean it? Would they be OK with talking about "niggers"?
And it gets even more interesting. In some languages and cultures (I'm thinking particularly of peninsular Spanish), you can use pretty much any word you want (,"mierda" is pretty fucking mild), and swearing consists of obscene descriptions. "I shit on your mother's grave" is a fun and horrifying one. Here in the states, references to crapping on a grave would be considered vile and tasteless, but not "swearing" per se, unless you used the magic "swear word" referring to defectation, shit.
Language is fun, is it not?

Fun fact: it actually isn't required to offer you a sweet deal. They normally do so they can get volunteers and avoid an awkward situation. However, if nobody wants to bump, and they have to play "Uncle Sam wants you", you get nuthin.
The part I don't like is the fact that if you miss two games you said you'd go to, you forfeit the rest. Doesn't that seem a bit vindictive?
|42 weeks 3 days ago||The question is: given that||
The question is: given that 57% of season ticket holders attended any given game last year, what are the odds that students will actually be turned away? To make it even more specific, what percentage of the season ticket holders attended the marquee games last year? If they never got more than 66% (3000 of 4500) attendence at a non-MSU game, then it's not really a problem.
I don't see any difference between this policy and the airlines' policy of overbooking (although don't we all just love airline service?). Say they sold 3001 tickets for 3000 seats. Nobody would have a problem with it, because the odds that every single season ticket holder (or the person they sold it to) will show up is basically nil.
What people are enraged about, therefore, is the scale of the overbooking, not overbooking per se. I would hope that the AD has done some statistical analysis to ensure that 3000 seats is in fact above what we can reasonably expect student attendence to be, even for a marquee matchup.
If I'm wrong, however, I'll gladly raid Ann Arbor Torch and Pitchfork with everybody else.

The whistle clearly sounded before the ASU player flopped on it. By rule, if the whistle sounds, you're down, and that can't be overturned IIRC (no "continuation rule"). So at about 15ish seconds, the officials had made the final decision that he was down right there. From there, it's simply a matter of they taking forever to spot the ball. Yes, the Wisconsin actions were odd and not advised, but if the officials had, you know, done their job, there would have been zero concern over time.

|47 weeks 3 days ago||Illegal streaming isn't||
Illegal streaming isn't stealing; it's copyright infringement. There's a difference.
I really just think it's a matter of time before a la carte programming becomes the norm, and for a reason nobody has yet mentioned: the illegal streams. It is certainly true that DirecTV and others are going to fight tooth and nail and pay top dollar to keep their oligopoly, but as more and more of the sports consumer base grows up in the technology era, fewer people will pay for those TV packages, opting instead to watch illegal streams. That's especially true because the most technologically proficient individuals will always be the ones with the least disposible income (younger people).
In economic terms, there will be less demand for TV packages as more and more people find a competitive product (bootleg streams) to be a viable alternative. If the offering is more palatable (i.e. cheaper, with less crap on it that you don't watch), demand will increase.

|50 weeks 2 days ago||Counterpoint||
I'm not saying the gif isn't doctored; it definitely has a kind of different tempo or "feel" after he leaves his feet. However, I could see someone making the following reasonable argument: At first when he leaves his feet, we focus more on the upper body. However, as the legs go over, they have the greater radial velocity as the torso stays closer to the center. Hence the legs look like they're moving faster. It appears to me that until we recognize the velocity's radial nature, we don't appreciate how fast he's going.
That's just my take on it, though. In the end it's about is conclusive as that rapture guy video with the girl supposedly getting touched inappropriately. We could sit here and Zapruder the shit out of it for hours and never agree.

I also can't be 100% sure Brady Hoke isn't using his position as a Michigan head coach to run an elaborate money-laundering scheme, but let's be serious here.
The day Jim Thome gets a not-laughable steroids accusation against him is the day I buy everyone in this thread a steak dinner. By the way, StraightDave still owes us all.

|50 weeks 4 days ago||Regarding Miggy:I absolutely||
I absolutely refuse to accuse a guy with a clean record of any sort of PED use. However, I don't have the same kind of rock-solid confidence that he isn't/wasn't juicing as I do about, say, "My Wife Is My Rock" Jim Thome. I think that's why Thome seems so outstanding to me. Thome, unlike Miggy and even Pujols, played for 3/4 of his career in an environment where there was absolutely no deterrant at all to steroid use.
Thinking about it further, I'm not even sure that Thome belongs in the same era as the best hitters of the mid-late 2000s. By time Pujols and Miggy were in their mid-20s, Thome was past his prime. That being said, Cabrera and Pujols are both excellent hitters for average, which does set them apart from hitters like Jimmy.

But don't worry guys. Now that we've [started testing for steroids; spring training screenings; broken up BALCO; increased suspension length], we've FINALLY ended steroid use in baseball. Pinky Swear.
I have this funny feeling that, 30 years from now, we're going to see Jim Thome as the best hitter of the generation. Albert Pujols, too, as long as he stays publicly clean.
|50 weeks 5 days ago||Time for a Fred Jackson||
Disclaimer: I've only seen Fournette's highlight films.
That being said, my mind leaps to a bizarre-sounding comparison, but I think it's accurate. Fournette reminds me of Mike Hart. It really looks like he has good vision and instincts, knowing exactly how to slow up, turn the defender around, etc. That's one thing you can't teach very well. Thomas Rawls' lack of relative success thus far is just one of many examples. Of course, Fournette has a lot more physical tools than Hart does, but to me, vision and instincts trump the rest when you're looking for a running back. Take this with a grain of salt.

1) Cold. Like the texture a bit firmer myself. That said, Taking the cake out of the oven, waiting barely the requisite time to avoid burning yourself, and consuming immediately and voraciously is a very solid plan of action
2) Up. Otherwise you're making lots if little tiny greenhouses in your cupboard for the formation of nice juicy bacteria.
3) I'll be the oddball on this one. I've always considered the Midwest to be more of a cultural region, and is only defined incidentally by geography. I see the sensible midwest farmer as a different demographic than the yee-haw cattle rancher type. That divide occurs roughly at the Missouri river. So the high plains, home of wheat and cattle, is a very different place than the eastern great plains, home of corn and soy farms. Iowa would be part of the midwest, most of Nebraska would not. Incidentally, the "midwest" as far as I'm concerned syncs up almost perfectly with the traditional footprint of the Big Ten (with the exception of far eastern Ohio, which is almost like the urban, industrial northeast, and southern Ohio, which is basically West Virginia.
4) When I was a kid, my mom would always buy Oreos at the sketchy food emporium full of expired and/or oddball products. So the only kind of Oreo I ever ate was the stale kind. Consequently I didn't like Oreos all that well, and enjoyed myself playing with the cookie more than actually eating it.
TL;DR: make the GIGANTIC SUPER-STACKER OREO!
5) Nuclear reactions, kind of like Bikini Atoll...

Boy, if we only cared about the bottom line, MGoBlog would be an awfully boring place. "Yay we won!" and "Crap, we lost!" would be the only content you'd ever see here. Are we including BTCG and/or bowl games in this? I see us going roughly 9-3 this season, and a bowl game is always a crapshoot. I gotta take the under, given the fact that if we're 9-3, that will most likely not include a Big Ten championship (2 in-conference losses), which means we'll be playing LSU or some nonsense like that on New Years.
