Hats off to the kids who worked their tails off for several years to get to this point. It was an awesome, unexpected ride that didn't deserve to end like this. One team loses, one team wins, this is true. We lost by 6 points to a damn good basketball team. Just sucks that the "Patino to the HOF the same day he wins Nat'l title" is too good of a story line to allow anything else to happen. Even if calls were missed, obvious calls have that game letting the players on the floor decide who wins. That game had every right to be within 2 points at the finish, and someone on either side deserved to be able to make a play, make a shot, make a defensive stand to win the game.

Relying solely on denard to win in the non conference means death in the big ten. Maybe unleash him a bit more against ND, but I like what they are trying to do in the non conference. It makes him that much more potent w a developed offense where he can scramble, throw, and run play action from power formations when the box is loaded because they have to respect the RBs.

Offense returns essentially everyone, minus schilling. If Borges is a good enough coordinator to adapt his offensive style to denard and play at a similar level to last year, we will be golden. Defense should see huge strides, so think top 20 offense and hopefully a top 70 defense. If we had a defense and special teams last year we could have won 9 or 10 games. Hopefully that number is actually reached this year. My prediction 12-2 with a bowl win. Optimistic? Yes. Reachable? I think so.

|3 years 43 weeks ago||IF||
If we fired rr I hope he takes the Indiana job and beats our ass in a few years. Most o the fan base wanted him to fail from the beginning, but let's face it, he is a Michigan man. He makes the right decisions on player health and discipline over doing whatever it takes to win ballgames. He pulled denard against Illinois in a pivotal game when he showed concussion symptoms, and he made hagerup stay home for the biggest game of the year. That prick from east Lansing would have suspended him after the rivalry game. My point is that I hate the way rr was treated from day one, I think it's bullshit the way this fanbase has treated him. Is it too much to ask to support your team and your coach and not hope for Michigan to lose so that we have an excuse to fire a guy who was never given a fair chance? Bring richrod back in 2011. I'll be the first one to tell to admit if we have a bad year he should resign, but he deserves one more shot. He might just (unpleasantly for some haters) surprise you.

|3 years 44 weeks ago||And I know we are young Which||
And I know we are young Which is part of the reason tackling has been bad, but it's no excuse for Wisconsin running 32 of 33 times and still scoring 24 points on us in the second half. Thats all because wisconsin was bigger and more physical than our 3-3-5. 8 guys under 240 versus 7 guys over 285. I'll give you one guess who wins that battle in the ground game. I support richrods fully but he needs to give up on the scheme. For those of you who want him gone, think about what happens when our d is competent and we out up 40 points a game. We have won six of seven games with nothing but an explosive but young and mistake prone offense. That offense has a full year under their belt and the defense returns nearly everyone next year. The future is bright. Buck. The. Fuckeyes.
|3 years 44 weeks ago||None of us know||
What's going on with the defense. Is it gerg or is it richrod constantly in his ear about this 3-3-5 nonsense. We saw how the 3-3-5 works against Wisconsin. I'll be nice and call it ineffective. Bottom line we need a scheme change 4-3, 3-4, multiple, as well as a total defensive overhaul and richrod needs to stay away from our d. Tackling had been bad, reads have been awful, Guys aren't developing (Ezeh, etc.), which is on Gerg and the d staff. And can we please get a special teams coach and find a kicker?

|3 years 45 weeks ago||INJURIES INJURIES INJURIES||
Does no one think that playing @ND, @OSU, @Nebraska, neutral Alabama, MSU, IOWA, B10 Championship is hard enough? That's going to result in a lot of injuries. Schedule some patty cakes so guys have a chance to heal before big games. Trust me that schedule right there with 2 cupcakes is a top 10 Strength of schedule. Why add another top 25 team and make it No. 1 SOS. Does no one want to play for a national title when denard is a senior and we have a veteran group?
|3 years 45 weeks ago||EXACTLY||
Don't forget this will be Denards senior year and we will finally finally finally be a veteran group!
Why schedule 2 (Maybe 3 if ND improves by then) OOC games??? The big ten slate is hard enough. We will be playing AT LEAST 5 top 25 teams, @Nebraska, @ OSU, @ ND, MSU, IOWA, neutral ALABAMA, B10 championship. 3 of those teams will likely be in the top 10 (NEB, OSU, Bama). Even with a veteran group it's highly unlikely that any team could get through that schedule unscathed. Why add another and make it virtually impossible? Not to mention the injury situation. Healthy teams are a must if you are going to win in the big ten, and scheduling 2 or 3 top 25 OOC teams is a great way to get players hurt and give them no time to rest before the long haul of the b10 slate.
|3 years 45 weeks ago||I see your point, but with a||
I see your point, but with a veteran group in 2012, I would love to have a shot at a national title. Lose 1 of these games and you are ok, but lose 2 and you are out of the picture. playing 5 top 25 opponents is enough to jack up your strength of schedule (especially with the road games and an additional road game @ ND who i am not counting in the top 25. Look at BSU, they play cupcakes all year and 2 top 25 opponents and they are #3 in the nation. Granted, they won't be playing for a Nat'l barring a miracle. Play 5 top 25 teams with a 6th in the B10 Championship game and you are almost guaranteed a spot in the Nat'l title with a B10 title win and 1 loss throughout the regular season. Another top 25 team does nothing for you if you lose, other than hurt you. Schedule a cuppy cake and get an additional easy win. Also, think about INJURIES that come from playing good physical teams. We could use a cuppy cake or 2 with the brutal schedule we have to REST.
|3 years 45 weeks ago||Athletic Trainer perspective||
I'm an athletic trainer, and the doctors saying the surgery was successful is obviously a good sign. I believe (and correct me if i'm wrong) that T-Wolf had ligament damage after a dislocated ankle that had to be repaired. Think of it like an ACL surgery, where the ligament is replaced, but it's in a less crucial joint. The acl is tough to come back from because of confidence in cutting and loss of quad and hamstring muscle after surgery. It takes a while to get those muscles back, no matter how hard you work. With the ankle, the muscles surrounding the joint are much smaller and less powerful, which means that they can be restored to full strength in less time. Vincent smith tore his acl in the last game of the year, and he was back approximately 9 months later, and seems to be almost at full strength 1 year later. Troy was injured in August, so he will have a full year to recover from a lesser injury. Another aspect to factor in is that with the knee, the bracing system is less than perfect. Some docs believe the knee braces help, while others do not. For an ankle, tape and or bracing can significantly strengthen the joint. Troy's biggest challenge is getting full range of motion back in the joint, which should already be done at this point. WIth the medical staff at UM and his attitude, he should be back for spring practices and we should see minimal evidence (other than a taped ankle) that the injury ever occured next fall.
|3 years 45 weeks ago||Agreed||
I would really love to see this team take care of the ball this week. 5 turnovers in the last 2 games has to stop.
- b/c of denard turnovers - will cause me to question why RR isn't encourage him to scramble more when the pass plays aren't there (and switch the ball the outside arm when running), and think about how short of a leash he will have next week vs tOSU
- in a close game, will cuase me to think about what could have been
-in a blowout will cause me to be sad for the rest of the evening, and be very scared of tosu
A win will cause me to kick myself in the ass for not spending the 5 or 600 dollars to fly into AA and watch the most important win for this program in the RR era.
|3 years 45 weeks ago||Ummm||
a couple top 10 teams would consist of @ Nebraska, @ OSU, neutral vs Bama. Not to mention we play MSU, Iowa at home. I would rather not play 3 top 10 and 6 top 25 teams in on season. 5 top 25 teams is enough, not to mention we will have to play the B10 championship game if we get that far. So potentially, if we schedule another OOC top 25 team, we could play 7 ranked opponents in one year, including 3 in the top 10 on the road or at a neutral site. No thank you, give me western kentucky and eastern michigan please.

We should fire Richrod so we can lose Denard and everything our offense has become. I would love to have 2-3 more miserable seasons while we install a new system, which would probably be the exact system Michigan used prior to RichRod (towards the end of the Lloyd Carr era I believe everyone wanted to kill our O coordinator). The University chose a direction for the program to go, stick by it. Our offense is YOUNG and they are already a JUGGERNAUT. The defense is YOUNG and INEXPERIENCED and TERRIBLE. The D can't get any worse, therefore they will improve each year, and we should see a significant improvement next year. Not to mention our schedule next year consists of OSU, ND, Nebraska, @MSU, @IOWA. With another year of experience this is a VERY managable schedule. And if I'm not clear I'm talking a legitimate shot at getting to the Big Ten Title Game. When is the last time we had that type of expectation? Freshman grow most with game experience and SPRING PRACTICE. Most of our secondary has the game experience, but have never been through a spring practice. If I told you all we were 5-1 at this point in the season 7 weeks ago you would have came in your pants with joy.
|3 years 49 weeks ago||Recruiting||
I want Denard pasted all over ESPN. It's MICHIGAN MICHIGAN MICHIGAN and DENARD DENARD DENARD AND IT'S GREAT GREAT GREAT for our recruiting.
|3 years 50 weeks ago||Bottom Line||
I think RR needs to stay, as long as we won't completely collapse the rest of the season. If we can get to 8-4, or even 7-5, I think RR HAS TO STAY. I know some of you probably think going 3-5 in the big ten and 7-5 overall is the doom of RR, so here are some reasons for my opinion.
1) Offense. We have pretty much won every game this year (minus UConn) solely on the shoulders of our offense. They have been incredible this season (minus TOs versus state). Everyone seems to forget how young our offense is because of the success they've had. Next year we return EVERYONE but Schilling and Dorrestein. Excited? Hail. Yes.
2) Dilithium. Another year under his belt + another offseason of working his balls off to improve as a passer + infectious work ethic = ridiculous success next year. I love this kid and his mental attitude toward the game. True team player.
2) Defense. Our defense can only get better next year (IF Martin doesn't jump to the NFL). Christian, Avery, Talbott, Carvin should all be redshirting, but because of the MIchigan Secondary hating God, they are getting significant playing time. We get Woolfolk back, we lose Rodgers, Mouton, Ezeh, Banks. Enter Jibreel Black, Sophomore CBs with game experience/a year under their belt, and PLEASE GOD an assignment sound LB core. I would love to see Kovacs at LB next year. If Martin stays, out defense should be at least average next year, which sadly is a BIG improvement.
3) Schedule. Next year we play @ State, @ Iowa, @ Northwestern. Those are our 3 most difficult road games. States D loses some key players. Iowa loses Stanzi, Clayborn, others. Northwestern is northwestern and I expect a win there. Home games include, OSU, Nebraska, ND. No Wisconsin or Penn State on the schedule.
4) Set Back. This offense is ridiculous. We have seen the success it can have. The defense will only improve with the kids we have recruited. The coaches are working hard to get tons of good defensive recruits. If we hire a new coach with a new system, players leave, recruits decommit, and the program faces a setback.
The rest of the Year. Penn State game looks more winnable every week. Illinois is showing vast improvement, but I believe that is a game that we can/should win. Purdue showed signs of life last weekend, but they have too many injuries to beat us this year. Iowa/Wisconsin are games that we can win if we play well and protect the football. OSU is a toss-up, probably a loss, but no one ever knows with this game. I think the advantages of keeping RR far outweight the disadvantages. We chose the direction of this program 3 years ago. The spread is finally installed, and half of our team is complete. Think about what happens when the defense can hold their own in 2 to 3 years (hopefully next year as well). I get wood just thinking about it.
* I know this should be its own thread, but i'm new to the board and haven't figured out just how to do that yet*
