Specifically said that unless you are a fifth-year senior, you have no idea what the last few years were about. There was not one person that dared even make a noise at that point of the speech, because no one-not fan, nor former player, nor "Legend"-could question his experiences, and we were all taken to task. The collective "Michigan" had put themselves before the needs of 132, and it was a remainder of what the focus of college athletics should truly be.

I understand LOOKING for tickets at face value or cheaper, but the Michigan game is often the biggest ticket on the NW schedule (due in no small part to the relatively close distance from A2 and the huge number of UM alums in Chicagoland) and, seriously, this is Chicago--nothing is "cheap." If you want cheap away-game tickets, try a Purdue or IU game one year, no advanced purchase necessary.
Looking at stubhub, there are still tickets available for under $80--I don't know how you'd expect to pay less than that for an undefeated Michigan team at NW. That said, where there is a will, there's a way...so good luck to all. I'm sure some of you will have stories of scooping up tickets dirt cheap, somehow!

I, too, was worried about this. So I emailed UM Ticket Office 7-10 days ago (deleted the email so I don't have the exact timeframe) about this issue of ordering NW tickets with my UM season tickets. They responded that those tickets have not been mailed out yet and it is not unusual that I would receive them a week or two before the game.

I found a lot of general nastiness from the Redskin fans, at least in the concourse (I was in the UAH section, for whatever reason, so didn't have problems in the stands). It also didn't help that liquor was sold in "lounges" around the arena, and the MU fans were getting well-sauced while watching NCAA hoops. I'm not obnoxious (except in the stands, while watching the game) but I did fear things escalating...there is a lot of hate out their by the 'Skins fans against us. Not that I care, it's just funny considering their incredible lack of championship hockey over the last 60 years.

After 15 years of watching UM Hockey at Yost, I FINALLY took a road trip to MSU for Friday's game. I recommend that every UM fan make the trip once. The place was empty and crowd anemic (as has been mentioned previously), but even at its finest green-and-white hour, I think the overall crappiness of the hockey environment at Munn would make us all appreciate Yost and our own program much more. GO BLUE.

Basically, Internet Guy, you just pointed to the endzone and chanted "Scoreboard". I think you are exactly right. I understand people having problems with this coach or that coach, but I just can't take it seriously when any True Blue would have any problems with Miles's results. Jeez, we'd be creaming our shorts for the International Bowl this year.
I had wanted Miles, but after we signed RR I committed to not looking back. I just won't accept someone saying we are better off without Miles, because I haven't seen the guy do anything with LSU that we wouldn't be proud of in Ann Arbor.

I think it would be nice to take a Yost-like approach: photos of key players over the years displayed in a concourse area. Yost has A LOT of players and coaches, and it doesn't diminish the team concept nor does it cheapen our tradition--if anything it creates a 'living museum' to UM Hockey within Yost. I prefer this to any number of 'retired' jerseys or names & years of All-Americans, etc., painted in the bowl or on the suites.

After attending the game, I was left with an appreciation for the hustle our team put in. Quite a few Wolverines were buzzing tonight--Hagelin, Vaughan, Rust, Lynch, Brown...a whole lot of guys racing around the ice. Some of the goals were lucky-ish, but it was great to get some bounces go our way. This was a HUGE improvement over last Friday against BGSU. Looking forward to the Badgers tomorrow.

Yeah, "much worse." I felt that OSU was sticking to a slow-and-steady game plan and that they were capable of doing a lot more damage. I expected them to open it up and and take it to us. Our D impressed me because I thought it could be much worse. What I learned after PSU, Illinois, Purdue and Wisconsin is that our Defense can be torched. I guess that's not the lesson you took out of this season.

Nuck, I envy you. I'm glad you took so much positive out of today. Maybe I'll be there in a day, a week, a month. After watching the first half, I thought it would be much worse, so I will give credit for that. It was not our worst performance of the year, and I can't say that a full effort wasn't given. It must be really hard to be a player right now, because it ain't easy being a fan. I just can't get over the fact that our only conference win was against Indiana.

There's no way anyone can fault our QBs, but they are excellent examples of why freshmen QBs should not be thrown into the starting lineup. Of course there wasn't much alternative for this season. It's just been so difficult to watch, even if our QB play was far improved from last year.

|7 years 9 weeks ago||The only thing amazing to me||
The only thing amazing to me is that so many people are SHOCKED and AMAZED that rules of economics apply to Michigan football games. When you feel less-than-enthused by the prospects of your team (the team you pay $125 - $500 per seat license PLUS ticket price) actually giving you enjoyment, your selling price will come down, thus making more tickets 'available' for resale. Yes, I used to get upset as a student when my friends would sell the OSU ticket and pay for their whole damn season's worth of tickets, but I understood it.
This was a game that i could not GIVE a ticket away to. No joke. I used up two seats, the whole time envying my cousin that got $500 for the pair of 10th row seats he sold. I enjoyed the $20 I spent on a 1/2 gal of sangria after the game more than any damn aspect of today's $130 investment of a game.
Expect much more red, and green, and scarlet in the years to come. I wonder what the season ticket renewal rate will be this year. I don't expect that we will stop having 100k plus attendances if for the only reason that opponent's fans will flock to our stadium to watch their team have a chance of kicking our ass.
That said, I will never sell tickets to opponent fans (actually I give them away to friends when I can't attend) or on websites. I will always keep my season tickets. But a lot of people need to come down from their perch and recognize the realities of our Michigan universe. (Especially with a state unemployment rate of 15%.)
And o-h-i-o was very loud, but not as embarrassing as what Michigan football has been for 2 years.
|7 years 9 weeks ago||Kudos to Oregon--watching||
Kudos to Oregon--watching them click on all cylinders is amazing. I felt a twinge of hope at a RichRod-led UM offense after watching the OU-USC game.
But as much as I've enjoyed watching "Duckball" this season, I cannot get over how ridiculous the OU football 'tradition' is. I'm sorry, maybe it's the UM snobbery or something. But they ARE "the ducks", whose mascot was a not-so-subtle play on Donald Duck, whose fans blow duck calls, whose colors are those awful yellow-and-green (and if they weren't AWFUL why else would they use grey, day-glo yellow, black, and any other colors to dilute the crappiness of the colors?), who've produced like one decent NFL player, who have "duckprints" etched onto their shoulder pads.
I hate to be negative on such a fun team, but out of all the college programs out there Oregon makes me chuckle the most. Even if they are the loudest group of 30,000 (or whatever) fans any duck could ever hope for.

It won't be popular here, but I STILL say all B10 teams drop ND from schedules unless they join. Let ND do home-and-homes with ACC opponents and see if that helps them.
I love hating ND, and UM-ND is usually a good game, but we could do just as well finding other top programs to do home-and-homes with (even in this day and age) and still send the message to ND that they need to join the B10.
And, no, I don't think they ever will join B10. And, yes, I realize we have a contract good for the next 100 years to play ND. But I'll still whine about it.

And I'm quite sure Andrews is a woman, not a girl.
"Leave the girls out of it" reminds me of the OSU coach going nuts a few years ago against that reporter.
Agreed that their should be limits for signs--I can't believe ESPN doesn't screen them. But how can anyone be surprised at vulgar signs? ESPN milks all the other "atmosphere" of college football, how could it escape the drunkeness and juvenile behavior that often goes along with football Saturdays and college campuses in general? But doesn't it mean something when everyone in America points out that ND "aired it out" at that point in the game, and no one labels it "failing to convert"? The clock management became the story, not the inability to get a first down.
What do I know? RR is 2-0 this year!

Should ND lay a total egg this season and we have a 4- or 5- win season, I might remember this differently. But there can't be too many fans out there (at least that didn't get showcased as the 1964 Big 10 Champ team) that can remember getting heaped on by so...much...crap.
All I could think about in the last :11 seconds was sitting in those same seats during the Oregon game 2 years ago. Forget AppState; it was the utter pounding we took from Oregon that left me deeply disturbed and unsure about the fate of our program. That game was a wake up that things were NOT right. That wasn't Donovan McNabb coming into our House in '98 and shredding us with his world-class abilities. Oregon was a coach and a system and some very good athletes that just would not stop leaping off the top turnbuckle and elbow dropping us into submission. At that time I felt as if Rome burned around me.
Today banished those demons. Today showed that another visionary coach, anchored in his belief in a method of coaching players and instilling a system, was again at our helm. For much of my life I had lamented the fact that I had missed the greatness of being at Michigan in Bo's early years and watching that man create the program I loved.
Today, I felt that I was "in" on the ground floor of another amazing span of Meeeeechigan football history. This is going to be a great ride.
So, yeah, I was waiting for the students to rush the field. My old, fat ass is done running onto fields!
|7 years 19 weeks ago||hate the damn stupid jerseys||
but since they ran their little webbed footings all over us 2 years ago I can't muster up the brimstone and fury to complain much.
ND's damn Statue of Liberty play today reminded me of Duckies.
|7 years 19 weeks ago||i biffed and forgot to DVR||
so just checked ESPNU listings: UM/ND on at 9pm tomorrow night. Unfortunately for me, HBO has season finale of TrueBlood at same slot. DAMMIT.
Game replays are TBD during the week thus far--it should be shown again during the week.

Amusing and I wish you all good luck in your pursuit of a maize n blue IL plate. I would just like to point out that the current Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives, Andy Dillon, is a proud Golden Domer. And I'll be damned if we pass a law allowing ND plates in Michigan. But look for Red Wings, Pistons, Lions and Tigers customized plates on the horizon.
|7 years 19 weeks ago||Not for Profit||
this status is conferred to a university/college/school the same as it is done for a corporation: if you do not have ownership of the school in the form of shares and excess profits paid out as dividends to "ownership" of the institution, you are a non-profit. That doesn't mean someone isn't making money.
|7 years 19 weeks ago||Guess I missed ticket offers||
damn job getting in the way of UM football. Again. Lemme know if any offers still out there.
|7 years 19 weeks ago||Michigan section||
do you know where the "Michigan Section" is located? I'm sure I've never run across that info.
|7 years 19 weeks ago||heh heh||
well, if the "3 for 2" deal was the coupon you got in your season ticket package, you aren't going to be happy to learn that the deal expired at the end of August AND they had to be purchased over the internet (per salesman in stadium). They sold me a "2 for $30" deal; yes, they are 30cents worth of plastic and metal. No, i don't like paying for it. But it really adds to my gameday experience, I HATE the six-to-eight second delay of radio headsets, and Michigan Football Saturdays are a few of the most important afternoons of the year to me...so it was worth it.
|7 years 19 weeks ago||nice||
good for a laugh! you are right--you can't drink enough sangria for the food to taste good because you'd spend so much time just waiting for the single-use bathrooms. But god i love that alcoholic kool-aid.
and for all you smokers: you cannot beat ashing into a tuna can.
|7 years 19 weeks ago||A few observations||
Waiting for the first serious rainfall to see how many people actually fit under the covered concourse area--I got a feeling it will be packed, but then again where did we all fit for some of the downpour-filled halftimes of past?
Cherry Coke at the game was a gift from god.
Concessions lines seemed much shorter/non-existent.
Men's urinals will take some getting used to; there was a lot of lingering near "in" door while spots were visibly available near the end of the line. It does feel more like "musical urinal" than it did with the troughs, for some reason.
And, most glaringly, the art deco-styled letters of "MICHIGAN STADIUM" look so damn puny now. I bet it's posted somewhere, but do they plan on recreating that (at twice the size) atop the suites? While I'm at it, is the press box coming down? That looks so puny, as well; I'm not saying it should come down, but I somehow missed those details in all the talk of stadium upgrades.
|7 years 19 weeks ago||I respect that viewpoint; I||
I respect that viewpoint; I used to share it. But now have a desire for scorched earth. This was cemented in my mind after the Oregon game in AA. The glee that so many of our "Big 10 Brethren" had over our 2007 season (not to mention the 3-9) causes me to always root against Big 10 schools. I know that it's stupid, childish, and hurtful to my school...but I can't stop. Maybe I'll get therapy one day...
|7 years 19 weeks ago||i know people felt||
i know people felt "bamboozled", as I watched a salesman getting chewed out as i waited to purchase a radio. Maybe I'm in the minority that actually EXPECTED my prior year's earpiece to not work? I don't have a problem paying every year--it is far superior to a standard radio signal in my opinion.
|7 years 19 weeks ago||probably out of the reach of||
probably out of the reach of most students (financially), but Zingerman's Roadhouse is an amazing restaurant. Absolutely All-American menu (every item is domestic, with many items locally produced) and they focus on regional american cooking. This is an absolute jewel we have in AA that people travel to from around the globe.
It ain't cheap, but should be memorable if you want to learn a bit about the food you consume.

For Dominic's, the trick is to drink enough 1/2 gallons of sangria that the food is actually great! Just get there early after a game, and don't wait until late-season games: they are a seasonal business.
|7 years 20 weeks ago||Evidence?||
Glad so many people here have viewed the "evidence". Some kind of special access to SD County Sheriff's files, I guess. I mean, the "evidence" is there that UM just practices too much, too. Obviously, no one is crying for a professional athlete with a bad track record ('roids) that lives 1000 miles away. But there is ALWAYS more to a story than you will get in one sound-bite, the man has not been convicted of anything, and the fact that he is a professional athlete makes him neither more nor less likely to be a douche than anyone on this board, IMO.
Trust me, there are enough abusers living in our neighborhoods to keep us concerned plenty. Check out your local domestic violence shelter and see how much abuse ISN'T committed by an athlete.

...but is Coach and Four on State, next to Mr. Spot's, still the scalping hub? I think when I was a student the barber in that place was nothing but a front for all the tickets that moved through that guy.
Interesting stories about scalping--I have never tried it, except for the occassional single ticket as I was walking into M Stadium (usually for like $20), just to get something for a ticket that someone never showed up for. I will never have the guts to show up for a Michigan game without a ticket in hand--with the fear of both not getting in and missing kickoff on TV.
|7 years 20 weeks ago||We are discussing a post||
We are discussing a post titled "Suckeye Band" regarding a song entitled "I Don't Give a Damn About the Whole State of Michigan". I wholeheartedly apologize to you and any other reader that I may have offended either in my choice of words or the passion which by which I express my displeasure for The Ohio State University in particular and State of Ohio in particular. Please, just send me the master list of all rules and regulations so that I might strive to follow whatever expectations each blogger has for this site.
|7 years 20 weeks ago||i would be ashamed if that||
i would be ashamed if that broke out at M Stadium. Seriously, it would be "cool"? there is a whole nation of gimmicked-out arenas to play this stuff. How does my team dancing on the field improve my football-watching experience, or more importantly, the buckeye-fucking experience?
|7 years 20 weeks ago||in the Lloyd years||
i think the Wave was ALWAYS too early. LOL (OK, OK, i'm done writing revisionist history about L-L-oyd...i still love the guy.)
|7 years 20 weeks ago||Fuckeyes||
i was shocked about this history of this song when i researched it a few years ago. It is kind of cool in a way because it shows our absolute mind-rape of their entire state. No, it's not a new song that the recent crop of shitkickers has thought up; it was actually created for a Broadway play.
The sentiment of the song reminds me of Spielman's bullshit pep rally line of how residents of Michigan are fans of UM, or MSU, or Western, LSSU, etc., but in Zero-HI-Zero everyone is a Buckeye. Yes, I think that is one of the factors that makes the State of Michigan superior--we are not automatons.
|7 years 20 weeks ago||intimidation||
i can't imagine an opposing player has EVER been intimidated by "Welcome to the Jungle." We've won 42 conference championships, and been one hell of an intimidating homefield, without "keeping people excited" by using bullshit. I understand if you actually like the music to be played, but I think you are fooling yourself if you think our crowd will be louder, more "into it", because of music. 1997 squad would've intimidated the opponant if it played in an empty stadium. 2008 squad wouldn't have intimidated OL St. Mary's had it been played in a warzone.
|7 years 20 weeks ago||"Awesome" as it may be||
...it's not like their have been any improvements or even changes in like 20 years at M Stadium! Which is why I'm still amazed at it's popularity. It IS, however, an excellent barometer of a blowout.
|7 years 20 weeks ago||Fire Lloyd||
Reminds me of the times in seasons past I would mock certain season ticket-holders around me and bust out with a "Fi-ire Llo-yd" chant whenever a great offensive call would pan out. Re-education is key (often through a measure of belittling).
|7 years 20 weeks ago||Pretend Fans||
Ha! So are the "pretend" fans the ones that buy season tickets for 20+ years? Or are they the ones that wanted to but never did attend UM? Or maybe transferred out and didn't get the degree? Or the ones that travel from out-of-state for a game and act as ambassadors for UM in their little scarlet-n-gray shittowns?
|7 years 20 weeks ago||I think the new urinal stalls||
I think the new urinal stalls in the Mens Room are a direct response to your desire for dick slapping. Troughs posed too much of an opportunity.
|7 years 20 weeks ago||OT giving up tickets||
does anyone know if there is still a "waitlist" for season tickets? I assume there is some kind of list, since it wouldn't be sold out without a waitlist. But i wonder what the last few years have done to the demand.
|7 years 20 weeks ago||Bo and Rich||
your thoughts are what I'd felt, as well. I know that AANews, I think, did a huge connection piece between Bo and RR with amazing info on Nehlen and his program at WVU and time with UM. RR is definitely rooted in Ann Arbor.
|7 years 20 weeks ago||Good point: I can relate.||
Good point: I can relate. When I was in the student section the band played directly across from us. I sat in the student section again after they had moved the band into the section, and I remember not being able to hear much. Never understood why they never mic'ed the damn band.
|7 years 20 weeks ago||No idea what those singers||
No idea what those singers (?) sound like, but I know that Slipknot and Ramones would not make me any happier to hear at a UM game, even if it's what I listen to elsewhere.
|7 years 20 weeks ago||The Wave||
I always have to chuckle when I see the "wave" for the first time in a season. The fact that it remains not only popular year-in and year-out at M Stadium, but that it always starts at the student section blows my expectations. Seriously, the wave is about as old-school crowd antics fun as you can get---think waaaaay before LED screens showed crystal-clear replays and ads (sorry, PSAs, no ads in the Stadium, right?) during breaks--but it remains popular with the trendiest and most fickle of all fans--the student section.
Hard to believe that the same wave I learned about during those awesome days in Tiger Stadium in 1984, and the same wave that I thought was played-out by my UM days in the 90s is still done with boos, cheers, and laughter in 2000-freakin-9. I still don't ever do it, but I guess I can respect it a little more now.
|7 years 20 weeks ago||If it were a night game I'd||
If it were a night game I'd be even more pissed off than the piped-in music made me today. Neil Diamond, Journey, AC/DC? All fine for games, when played by the BAND. I'm not a particular fan of marching bands, but they practice enough and put in a lot of work with few opportunities to showcase. I'm sure we could have a big-f'n-singalong to the band playing that shitty Neil Diamond song.
touching me, touching you indeed.
|7 years 20 weeks ago||OT have to mention it||
The original story that spawned "The Shawshank Redemption" was a Steven King novella entitled "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption." Time for "Rita Rodriguez and the Pasadena Redemption"!
BTW I highly recommend the book "Different Seasons", even if you've seen the "Shawshank" movie a thousand times. Two of the other three stories in the book were the basis for the movies "Stand by Me" and "The Apt Pupil".

|7 years 20 weeks ago||It will be great to look back||
It will be great to look back at this and do a comparison between Bo and RR in a few years (preferebly after the Return to Domination). I've shared your feelings since RR's hiring. Look back at the year-over-year records and try viewing the Bump Elliott years through a UM fan's eyes of that era: one conference championship but overall disappointment. And Bump was "one of them", a Michigan Man that had played and coached in Ann Arbor before taking over the head coaching position from Oosterbaan (one of the greatest Wolverines in history and head coach after Legend Crisler).
Imagine hiring an OSU coach after having decades-long lineage of former players-as-coaches!
I admire Carr greatly; yet I am SO ready for an attitude to accompany a winning percentage. God, bless us with scorched earth!

Does anyone out there think that writers rub their hands with glee at us peons getting our panties in a bunch over this? Now, the big-game donors, those guys they pop a boner over the thought of causing THEM trouble. These writers are looking for a paycheck, looking for exclusive deals and cross-media coverage. Please.
The only way to combat this is to research and be ready to respond when your fuckhead neighbor/co-worker/busboy starts about how great Moo U is and how in trouble UM is.
I need to hear that Rosenburg interview...
|7 years 20 weeks ago||WVU doesn't support RR||
This article merely shows WVU taking the stance of "that stuff never happened HERE." Nothing can be read into this article beyond WVU saying that no violations occured at their program. This doesn't help UM one bit. The argument is that we brake the rules, that we don't want to abide by how NCAA dictates a program should be run and that we've cheated to get what we have (well, cheated more WITH RR than with other coaches) at the expense of our Student-Athletes' precious summer vacay.

|7 years 21 weeks ago||Thanks for info on Jolly||
Thanks for info on Jolly Pumpkin--they have great stuff.
I think Packard/State is an awesome location due to proximity to Yost as well as Michigan Stadium. As a hockey season ticketholder who drives into AA for each game, I know that I would spend a ton of money at a location within walking distance of Yost that had food, beer, TVs and (usable) toilets. Remember, it is often 20-40 degrees in the winter, and that spot would be a great meeting place before heading to the game and close enough to wait out the post-game traffic.
Do NOT underestimate the importance of parking. This is the State of Michigan-people will walk to a place, but there needs to be an assurance of parking within a 5 minute-walk radius. This location does not offer ANY parking-it's probably the worst business district in Ann Arbor for parking, actually. You cannot survive with an upscale place (i.e., anything fancier than Rick's) without attracting non-students; you need parking for that.
Shameful as it may sound, some of my favorite "tailgating" moments were spent at Leopold Bros. No, it's not tailgating at all. But after years of spectacularly huge/expensive tailgates, my buddy (former UM roomie) and I decided to just start meeting at Leopold Bros. instead of putting on a tailgate. AND WE WERE NEVER HAPPIER. Parking for games was $20-30 across the street (on asphalt--not wet sod). The walk was equal (or shorter) from Golf Course. Beer was cheap and good, liquor was awesome, food was above average, plenty of seating, outdoor area...it all added up to everything we wanted. Plus we could camp out there after the UM game and watch as much football as we wanted. It was also a great starting point for a night of downtown AA frivolity.
I miss you, Leopold Bros.
|7 years 21 weeks ago||cold gin||
BEST DAMN GIN I've ever had. I HATED gin until giving Leopold's a try (bad memories of a fifth of tangueray being downed around a bonfire in the mountains of Romania). The gin was as close to some of the awesome "genever" I had in the Netherlands--stuff that is not sold in the U.S.
I miss sipping my gin n' marrionberry n' tonic during the late games...
