I thought subbing out a cold shooting Stauskas for Levert and his defense against a hot shooting Fair helped turn things in the first half.
I had questioned many times during the conference season why Spike and Levert were getting minutes in pressure situations in "big"games. I see the brilliance in those decisions now.
|3 years 43 weeks ago||I agree||
Though this appears to be an unpopular stance, posting this kind of information here is a bit of a boundary violation for those coming to a Michigan blog as an escape from the world's challenges. Clearly losses in the Michigan sports community should be addressed here as this blog community is connected in a sense to our players, staff, etc. but I personally would prefer not to be exposed to traumatic news such as this when it holds no relevancy to the blog's content. I do understand the need/desire to connect with others when exposed to such traumatic news, but consideration should be given to the audience and their needs as well. For example, one probably wouldn't share this bit of news with someone who themselves are dealing with a significant loss- and given that we have no idea what other readers are going through, it would be prudent to assume there are other readers experiencing losses themselves, or just don't want to be exposed to this kind of news for whatever reason.

I, too, am impressed by Denard's loyalty, and wonder how many others might have chosen to leave if Denard had left.
I also believe (I haven't heard this anywhere, just a gut feeling) that the coaches have been loyal in return in developing him as an NFL prospect at quarterback. They have used all of the nonconference games to do so, and I believe this will continue into the B1G season, but with a shorter leash, resorting sooner to utilizing his running skills if the passing game is a detriment.

Why is missing game time the standard punishment for criminal behavior? I would rather see a player lose driving privileges and have mandatory substance abuse counseling for drunk driving, and perhaps do some community service educating incoming freshmen on the dangers of alcohol abuse (at least for first time offenders). For situations like Mr. Clark's, I would like to see him make reparations of his own, compensating the victim of theft for his/her loss and then addressing the larger dorm community as a whole. The community service aspect might include an educational piece on dorm safety or some such.

No, no one is saying that it can't happen here. In fact, before the OP, no one was even discussing the matter as it pertains to each of us individually and collectively at all- which I believe was the intent of the OP.
What I took from the post was the value in taking a step back, recognizing my own potential for making a similar mistake to those at PSU, and figuring out how to prevent that from happening in my own life and work place.
There is a lesson to be learned from this ugly situation, and if I get too caught up in flaming with righteous indignation it could very well be missed.
This is definitely one of the best OT posts (the original post, that is) I have read on this blog.

I found these in the write-up after the video. He was apparently thrown at four times in zone allowing 3 receptions, one a touchdown. In man he was thrown at 13 times, giving up 3 receptions with the interception and 5 PBU's.
Also, it appeared that they were not throwing any underneath stuff in this competition, which might explain the cushion he was giving at the line of scrimmage, though it was also apparent he was comfortable allowing receivers to break away from him a bit too far at times. I wonder how much of this is a result of fatigue from chasing deep routes all day? Or from rarely being thrown at and trying to bait the qb into giving him some action?

|4 years 19 weeks ago||It seems to me that at this||
It seems to me that at this point, in the interest of "fairness," we should just do away with naming a "national champion." Clearly there is very little interest on the part of the conference commissioners to come up with a way to develop a system that removes any doubt from the fans' minds who the best team in the nation is any given year. How can we possibly identify one team, from a college system that permits individual institutions/conferences to operate under different guidelines, as being better than the others? Until all conferences and schools have the same guidelines and restrictions "fairness" will never be an option.
I would prefer we just leave things as they were "back in the day" when the games were played for competition's sake and the rewards were the bowl games themselves.

"If it truly was a significant factor why would he have left Michigan in the first place?" It is possible that his father's condition worsened. Or he may have been convinced that going to UT was in the best interest of everyone for the long term and came to recognize that he was needed at home immediately.
"Why would he really care where he transfers if his dad's health was his number priority?" Because he is also interested in his own future, which I imagine would also fall somewhere very high on his list of priorities.
"If it were me I'd leave no matter what the conditions were." It is my understanding that DeAnthony intends to leave regardless of the terms of his release. He is just asking that he be allowed to attend the university that will afford him the best education and opportunity to further develop his skills as a football player.

"Calling someone a "faggot" or a "queer" wasn't as big of a deal at that time." Perhaps this is true in the sense that society as a whole has become more tolerant of homosexuality and has labeled those terms as offensive or politically incorrect, but being called a faggot or a queer in a derogatory sense has never been well-received interpersonally. And even ten years ago I believe that whoever you called a retard would not appreciate that either. Belittling people is not (and never has been) ok, regardless of whether the term one uses to do so is PC or not.

I am going to reserve judgement on the offensive line until the regular season, but pre-season I would place the blame for a poor running game on the RBs as much as the blocking, and pass protection has been very good.
In regards to the secondary I share your concerns without an apparent elite corner and a question mark at one safety spot, but the play that broke Welker free was against our second team. I would add that I am not feeling too confident with our linebackers to date as they seem to still be shuffling their positions. Thankfully our D-line is so imposing that they can cover up some of our weaker position groups flaws.

It appears to me that Hoke and co. have decided to offer a lot of players that they want on the team and that whoever commits first gets the spot- placing an emphasis on both the players talent level and their passion to play for Michigan, with both of those attributes being near equally important in the coaches eyes. I believe there will be a couple spots left open after all the team position needs have been met for special talents that are taking their time.
Note that in positions we only have one open spot for, or in which there is no "need" (ie. quarterback), the coaches are being very selective.

I was hip to the use of the royal we, until you followed it up with "our" asses, and now we are completely lost........ But yeah, I would say you deserve it as much as anyone else on this blog.
|5 years 47 weeks ago||The Big House is rockin'||
I was able to return for the Iowa game and was very impressed by the volume in the stadium, which I accredited to the renovations as well as what I thought was a new found (revived?) passion in the fans. Even some of the more "mature" fans whom I had become accustomed to seeing planted comfortably on their seats were standing the entire game. In regards to the changes in the physical environment, it was great to hear our collective cheers and singing echoing back to us off the boxes.

Not only is he a beast of an athlete, he represents the university extremely well. I wonder how badly his shoulder really is injured as his accuracy seems to have dropped off considerably. And while I realize this may be hard to quantify, it appears to me that the loss of Odoms and his tenacious blocking on the outside may be impacting the run game more than one might expect from the loss of an outside receiver. Denard is a class act that deseverves every ounce of recognition he gets, be it a thread on our beloved blog or a front page cover story.

Fresh of the front page of Mgoblue.com.
Thanks for the update on the volleyball team. Great work.!

Great win over an Illini team that recently took down PSU. Look forward to another nice run in the tourney.

I appreciate the effort to stifle the bashing of student athletes. I would further appreciate it if language that denigrates anyone based on sexual orientation, gender, age, race, or is supportive of any other "ism," was moderated as well. I love this blog because the vast majority of the comments made are thoughtful, intelligent, and well (enough) informed (or at least amusing and only slightly offensive to people who are sensible). My thanks to everyone who makes these contributions.
P.s. all these damn rumors are making it hard to sleep at night!

"I had the best hamburger I've ever had at the Brown Jug." A man after my own heart. Sadly he went to the Jug instead of Casey's Tavern. If he had one of Casey's steak burgers he would have committed on the spot (or shortly after waking from his food coma)! Check it out when in town my fellow burger lovers, across from the train station.

I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you were making a funny. If only because I really enjoy seeing Bruce kick the snot out of that weird thing with the red O hat.

Thanks for all the time and effort. You took on one hell of a song!
May I request a revision of Alice's Restaurant next?
|6 years 10 weeks ago||Must be exhausting||
Must be exhausting to be so full of hatred. I mean, what could make someone so hateful that they would resort to burning stuff in public, make derogatory sweeping comments about people they don't know, and spend every waking moment hoping for something tragic to beset them or those/that which they love?
|6 years 10 weeks ago||Why not move him to tackle?||
Why not move him to tackle for his senior year to help him get ready for college? I am trying to think of reasons- such as having someone better at tackle in front of him, or a great need for tight ends- but they just don't make sense to me. Any insight is appreciated.

Given the recent news about the passing of George Steinbrenner I began thinking about what I consider a truly great man (in the world of sports or elsewhere). I think David Brandon's quote about Lloyd summarizes my beliefs pretty well "Coach Carr is a man of integrity. I admire and appreciate his love for all of our student-athletes and his many contributions to not only our university, but his work on behalf of numerous charitable causes throughout the state of Michigan." He brought Michigan a National Championship and positively impacted the lives of those around him. Sounds like a great man to me. I sincerely hope that Lloyd's values will be carried on by all of our future coaches.

If Ash (wisely) reads these posts then he should get all the motivation he needs to excel from it. I don't work in a profession that requires any level of fitness. But even so, if I was referred to as the "Fat Elvis" version of my predecessor I would be cutting the King Dons and doing some roadwork like it was my second job.
|6 years 11 weeks ago||What is the value||
Out of curiosity, what is the value of having recruits visit when our coaches are on vacation? Who does the "hosting" in these situations and what does this look like? I would think if recruits were interested in visiting over the summer then our coaches should be around to show them the program. Maybe give them two weeks vacation after a bowl game?
|6 years 13 weeks ago||Fearless||
I like how Kevin wasn't afraid to take a hit, either in the pocket or while running through the opponents' defensive backfields. Just hope he learns to step out of bounds instead of plowing through defenders for two more yards after a big gainer.

With the pot belly making waves in New York last summer, Jack exhibits a fashion forward stature while keeping his hair in the present. The man's an innovator. Try to keep up.
|6 years 13 weeks ago||The guy with the yellow shoes||
Ok, so I don't follow soccer very closely either, but didn't it seem that other than having fancy yellow shoes that Altidore was awfully hard to find on most balls going through the box? Not sure if it was a matter of poor anticipation or just plain laziness (not hearing tired legs, not from a 20 year old in an elimination game- not to mention it doesn't take a lot of energy to hang around offsides) but I found his inability to connect with those passes just as frustrating as Cherundolos crosses to the opposing team or well out of anyone's reach.
American football anyone?
|7 years 1 week ago||Rourke is a BEAST||
I had the "pleasure" of watching Rourke and five other women spank Colorado State in their house a couple weekends ago. I was hoping M would fair better against a one-player team given M's hitting balance and what appeared to me to be a superior passing team. Hopefully the injuries played a huge part in this and the injuries are not going to linger.
Blowing a ten point rally scoring lead is flat out embarrassing/demoralizing.
Michigan OH hating god??? No. I can't believe in a god that hates spandex clad women.
|7 years 1 week ago||Agreed||
I have two problems with RR's reaction.
The first being that our players need to be held to a high standard of conduct, representing the University as it should be- with integrity and class. The suspension was appropriate and should have been given by the University, that was a punch, and Michigan Men don't resort to cheap shots. The ND lineman deserves credit for not reacting and getting penalized as "the guy that reacts and always gets caught" thereby hurting his team.
Second, it is petty to pick fault with other teams' conduct. RR's time would be much better spent developing our players' characters, recruiting/developing a playable MLB, and getting ready for the B10 season.
I am a little concerned about the way that RR has represented M so far.
|7 years 3 weeks ago||Really f'in on!||
Not sure about the live blog. But M was really F'in ON for the first half. Gotta love the effort, and the defense against a reputable WMU offense was outstanding! Feel free to correct me, but I believe Tate cemented his position as starter. Gotta love M's heart today!
|7 years 4 weeks ago||Clutch transition game=Lexi is a baaaaad woman||
Lexi Zimmerman showed why she is considered one of the best setters in the country. She made solid decisions all night and amazing athletic plays to not only save potential over-passes, but place them near perfectly. The stuff block on the over-pass was just ridiculous. This team is clicking from the start. Another performance even close to this and KSU is going down in three!
|7 years 5 weeks ago||Thank You!||
Thanks for the volleyball coverage. Please keep it up throughout the season. I am seriously contemplating making the drive to Omaha from Denver for the Saturday match- if only it wasn't in Omaha. I always make it a point to attend a volleyball match when in town. Time and money (5$ or so for non-students) very well spent!

Really looking forward to the 2010 class. Nice to have another great recruiter in Florida.
RE: Beaver- if he isn't comfortable with large crowds then he was right to commit elsewhere (like Tulsa).
