There are some irrational fans that have lashed out against Herman unnecessarially. Should he have run Hyde more against MSU? Probably. But would we have been undefeated playing MSU in the B1G Championship game without him? Probably not.
I have no complaints about OSU's offense under Herman/Meyer/Warriner. And I think Herman is a huge part of that. The tempo is what Meyer went to Herman for. Herman was Meyer's hand picked guy and made him promise to stick around 2 years knowing that Herman would get job offers and want to take them. Herman stuck around this year because he wanted to finish what he started with Braxton.
|1 year 33 weeks ago||Urban made Tom sign up for at||
Urban made Tom sign up for at least 2 years if he was going to be his OC. Tom stuck around this year because he wanted to finish what he started with Braxton. I don't know if Braxton will actually come back next year or not, I'm still skeptical. But I'm even more doubtful Herman sticks around, even if Braxton does.
Several teams have made a run at Herman in the off seasons. I think he probably needs to go be a HC somewhere a bit smaller first, then work his way to the Power 5 level. You might be able to get him cheap because he has no HC experience.
I'd be very scared of Michigan being run by Tom Herman because I think he's going to be a great HC. I see what he continues to do with our offense and he has great connections in Texas that has gotten us some great Texas recruits, including JT Barrett. I do wonder how much of our offensive improvement is do to the Co-OC Warriner, but I know Herman is the QB coach and Braxton and JT have both improved greatly under him.

|1 year 39 weeks ago||Buckeye POV||
So J.T. Barrett...
I don't expect him to be as good as Braxton, but I don't expect the offense to be much different. Braxton is quicker and obviously more experienced so there will be more mistakes/TOs/etc. and fewer broken plays that turn into 15 yrd gains because our freak RB of a QB took off running. But it will help that he's been taking snaps in place of Braxton all summer. He red-shirted and was an early enrollee so he should know the offense.
We had some games on the schedule that scared me with Braxton: Navy is a test for any team because of their option offense and blocking schemes; Cincy is an in-state one-sided rivalry with them having everything to prove and nothing to lose, new coach, etc.; VTech has a good defense and plays Beemerball, mistake free and capitalize on other team's errors.
We could still ride the season undefeated, honestly. But we could have lost 2 games with Braxton. I'm still excited for the season.

|1 year 45 weeks ago||What the Hell||
So I'm an MSU grad and an OSU fan and I've only attended two games at the Big House and after I tell you which ones, you'll be lining up to give me your tickets to attend many more.
'04 MSU - 3OTs, Braylon Edwards, 17pt comeback. I was actually getting a ride from a Michigan fan who forced me to leave early at the beginning of the 4th. I ditched her mid-walk to the car and said I'd find my own way back home as I ran back to the stadium. A very kind security guard let me back in and I found my way to the lower bowl endzone to watch what I have to admit was a magical game. I love the first hand experice of watching the fans in those kind of games.
'08 Wisconsin - Never thought I'd see a bigger comeback than I did in '04, just kept repeating that in various forms as the game unfolded. Not sure this one is a good memory for Michigan fans or not, beginning of the current slump and all on one hand, great game and great coming out party for Rich Rod though.

I went to Europe in the summer of 2004 from late May to the end of June and didn't even know what EuroCup was until a week into the group stage matches. Every night, no matter what country we were backpacking through at the moment, you could find a bar/pub (most likely an Irish one, run by Irish immigrants) that was full of people watching. The Irish Pubs had the added advantage of having lots of English speakers inside. Every night we made friends to become fans of a team. We sang the Polish national anthem with some old drunks from outside Warsaw in Rome. We had an English lass flash us to get our support for The Three Lions over the Germans while we were in Madrid. I was hooked on soccer from then on. I watched the 2006 World Cup in my dorm room while taking summer classes. I watched 2010 games while I should have been studying more for the bar exam. What a fabulous ride it's been and I look forward to 2018 with the bright future it appears we have.

I think Fickell would be perfect for the Miami (NTM or YTM I'm not even sure around here anymore which Ohio or Miami is ever being talked about) head coaching job. Go to a MAC school for a few years, cut your teeth, go to a BCS school and get paid, then come back to OSU when you have some good experience as a head coach.
I believe he was kept on when Meyer came in because a) he was being rewarded for stepping up in 2011 b) he helped keep some consistency and information about the current roster and c) he and Vrabro were pretty much a package deal, which I'll be interested to see if Vrabs leaves with him when he goes as I think Meyer and Vrabel have developed a bro-mance now too.

I just want to throw it out there that talking to a recruit on a message board or tweeting at him, especially with "GoBlue" could be considered a secondary violation under NCAA contact rules. I say this because we had a recruit visiting the 11W forums and getting lots of upvotes and comments and it raised a call from the compliance office. Just something to keep in mind, I know there is a fine line.

As a frequenter of both sites I find things I like and don't like about each. It is true that you have to keep up around here with the inside jokes or you will be lost reading not just the comments but the front page posts. 11W does have a point system now, you have to be a registered member to see it and you have to have 100 pts to vote and up/down votes do effect your totals, unlike here where only mods can move your points up or down.
I think both sites have their good and bad commenters and I think it's way more easy to notice the worst of the worst, especially the less time you spend on the site.
As to Hoke vs. Meyer, I feel like it's in your group of friends who get married and the one guy has a super hot model type wife, and your other friend has a girl next door nice pretty wife. All the guys openly know and have to admit they're totally jealous and are attracted to the super hot wife, but the other guy is happy in his marriage and really everyone kind secretly finds her attractive too. If they both are happy and satisfied, great, everyone should be jealous of both of the guys.

As an OSU fan, you guys scared me coming into this game, and really going out of it too. I think you'll curb stomp us in Ann Arbor. That said, you guys need to grow up a little to make a deep tourney run. Winning away from home and closing out games is an aquired skill of experienced teams. You guys aren't very deep, but you don't foul and it doesn't become an issue. If you can stay clean even in aggressive games on the road, you'll do very well.
If some of your guys that are Sophs and Juniors decide to come back next year, look out. Unfortunately I think the NBA will be quite the draw and Burke almost left last year (which I'm not sure makes him more likely to go after this year or not.)

I agree that I prefer my team to wear consistent uniforms throughout a season. But I know the reality of the situation is that Nike and the school make a lot of money from sales when you change the jersey up even a little bit. Also, the players seem to like it and recruits love it. However, I absolutely hate with a burning passion that we wear them against UofM. I want to see the winged helments clashing with the silver bullets full of Buckeye leaves earned throughout the season. Any other game, I'd be 100% behind these "alternative" "uniforms" But I guess that's part of the marketing plan, to rile up fans like us on blogs and message boards to get people talking about it more.

Why don't we get a seat at the table man. The fans are the ones getting F'd the most. They ought to appreciate us, because without us there is nothing. No one would pay you to play hockey if no one watches it. And you can't make money off the players if the fans hate you.
I have told myself up til now, maybe naively, that they'd settle this thing by now. "The Winter Classic means too much to everyone to let it die" I thought. Now it's really sinking in that we may go another year of my life without hockey. The NHL continually shooting itself in the foot. Hockey fans are die-hards, and it's hard to get new people involved in it. The Winter Classic exposes the NHL to so many new potential hockey fans.
GOD! Can you tell I'm upset about this?! Detroit-Toronto Alumni game...GONE!

|3 years 40 weeks ago||I'm a Buckeye fan who lived||
I'm a Buckeye fan who lived my high school years outside of Ann Arbor, worked for the city during the summers and spent a lot of time on and around campus. I used to wear my Archie jersey to Mr. Spots and would joke with the guys that they were going to spit on my sandwhiches. I've seen it all from the crude to the cordial. I think it varies across many factors, but the biggest are the people who went to school, are planning on going to school and the ones who never could have gone to UofM. I never attended OSU but I am a lifelong Buckeye fan because of several of my family members having gone there and I grew up in Ohio before moving to MI my freshmen year of HS. So I don't judge the so often dubbed "Walmart Wolverines" because I could be considered by some as the OSU equivalent. I think there is a difference between "Walmart" fan-hood and fanhood of someone who didn't necessarially attend the school but cheers for them, like my situation. It's not like I jumped a bandwagon only because of proximity or apparel at a department store.
I think there are students and fans in Ohio that grew up much more influenced by the Woody Hayes legendary mentality of violent hatred of, not just UofM, but all things from "That State Up North." The stories of Woody punching a ref over a call in The Game and even more stories of him screaming at his own players when they lost or were losing to the Wolverines inspired a generation of fans to also act out violently towards Michigan and its fanbase. Then my generation grew up with that generation as their parents. Therefore a lot of them have a violent hatred instilled in them from birth.
I think I grew up with a hatred, not so much so violent, of UofM because of my family all being from the Woody and post-Woody generation. When I moved up here, I was knowledgable and I have a good sense of humor. So I was able to hold my own against real fans and difuse the more crass ones by being able to take a joke and dish a few of my own out. My hatred has certainly waned in the past 10-15yrs of living in MI. I've learned to separate the State of MI and even the university itself from the sports teams. This is because a) I have lived here and therefore can't hate the state too much, b) have degrees from other schools and cheer for OSU, thus I understand the separation from the teams and the school (which I hope we can all learn in light of the recent PSU scandal) and c) the UofM hospital has saved the lives of a few of my family members and friends.

I mean, we need a lot of offensive talent, but RB we are pretty solid, so that's my only explanation is that Urban wants another WR more than he wants the #1 RB. I wish the kid the best of luck. Bringing back Cubans, if you must, is a risk but like others said, it is possible. If you take the wrappers off, there is no way to know they are Cuban and can't be taken from you. I've brought back some before and told customs I had them and not gotten a second look, of course once was the time they were fake and maybe the customs people assume that more often than not that they are fake.

You gotta admit that there are UofM fans out there that are the same way, saying, "Well look at the overall record," even in years we won. But I will respect those fans a hell of a lot more than the ones (talking OSU and/or UofM) that disappear in a year of a loss to the rival. You still gotta represent your fandom and support your team, even when they lose. Suck it up and admit you were bested on the field on that fateful November Saturday.

In the case of the sign, a kid interested in OSU who will play football and wants to major in engineering would think, there are more engineering majors on this football team than the one at UofM. And he would be correct.
This sign makes no assertions, it simply states a small sampling of the listed majors of the two schools. Obviously it implies that OSU doesn't have as many General Studies majors as UofM, but that's all. And some kid may view that as a good thing or a bad thing.

No, I didn't say it was wrong. It's spin. It's not lying. Nothing stated on that sign is false. And OSU didn't put on that sign, anything along the lines of: "And therefore we are a better school academically" Obviously it is meant to have recruits or their parents infer such a premise, but it does not assert one.

So my piece on "The Sign" is that the information doesn't seem to be a lie or innaccurate, just simply not fully explanatory. Which, like duh man. It's a PR sign made to put OSU in the best light possible. So it's a half-truth yes, but isn't all PR. I mean it's not made up numbers. It's just not all the numbers and not the final numbers. I think the whole thing is stupid and shouldn't have been done in the first place.

This sign is bull. This is one of those internet blowing it out of proportion things. But yes, A) I'm glad someone else quoted Tate in rebuttal to Washington's quote already, good work, B) OSU has had a few Katzenmoyer's who take AIDS Awareness and Golf 101 to stay eligible as I'm sure every Div. 1 football program has these guys, but also has had Craig Krenzel win a MNC while earning a 3.8+ GPA in micro-biology/pre-med.

Good for him. Gotta jump at the oppurtunity.
|4 years 14 weeks ago||This||
I have accepted that losing out on Burke was necessary. Craft is a four year guy, and I'm not sure Burke is (I like to hear some of the MGoThoughts on that). So we have Craft and Scott already which meant getting Burke would just be a wasted schollie. I'd trade Burke for Scott right now, but let me see more of Scott over the next season or possibly two before I really decided there.
Craft's defense can hardly be quantitized, but Luke Winn has tried with the Turn-o-meter: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/luke_winn/12/01/power.rankings/index.html His impact is one of those intangilble, unmeasurable things. He's a winner. He lost on his home court last weekend for the first time since middle school. He leads, he competes, he hustles, he does the things you want your PG to do. When he's a junior and senior (if he stays around, which I think he will) he'll be looked up to by the entire roster and everyone will be better because of it. Not that I don't think Burke has some of these qualities and I'd probably say a lot of the same things about him if he were wearing a Buckeye uniform.
So it's a tough call. Both kids are great players. I do feel bad that things just fell the way they did and Burke and Sully couldn't grace the Schott as teammates, but I wouldn't give up Craft for it.
|4 years 15 weeks ago||We aren't over the limit now.||
We aren't over the limit now. Guys who have signed LOI are not scholarships until classes start, and guys on scholarship from last year aren't necessarially garunteed on scholarship for next year until classes start. So I'm no say we are being allowed to exceed the maximum. I'm saying we aren't over maximum at all. It's accounting. You don't credit or debit the account until the money is given or received (on cash basis method).
Listen, you can make me eat my words in August if we are at 83+. Because that would be against the rules and I'd be one of the first ones with a pitchfork outside the Woody. There would be no excuse for it.
|4 years 15 weeks ago||Get back to me in August when||
Get back to me in August when the count actually counts. I trust Urban when he says we are at 81. I think, like Berry's case, there are others who will leave at the end of this semester. We only know Berry is gone "officially" because he has legal trouble and his attorney told us he's no longer on the team. There will be other "official" anouncements later, I can promise you that.
|4 years 15 weeks ago||This||
Everyone in the know knew Berry was gone weeks ago. For whatever reason they decided not to go public with this and I'm willing to bet at least 2-3 other cases of kids who are gone. I don't know if it's to let the kids find new schools to transfer to first, or to let them finish the semester out, whatever. It makes it look like they have an oversigning problem.

At discounted tutition!
|4 years 16 weeks ago||I'm not sure, I'll look into||
I'm not sure, I'll look into that count. But currently I think the plan is Berry is gone, which has been assumed for awhile, and Adam Griffin (Archie's son) will convert to a walk-on, his dad can afford to pay for tutition, especially discounted. Tressel had a habit of giving walk-on's schollies after a few years to reward their dedication and hard work. Meyer may have other idea's for those schollies now.
|4 years 16 weeks ago||Well, a kid comes and says||
Well, a kid comes and says he's gonna transfer, privately to the coaches. The coaches say ok, we won't have a schollie for you next year then. And then they don't go public with it until the kid figures out where he's transferring. And maybe he doesn't figure out where he's transferring until after signing day when teams know they have spots/needs/etc.
But I do agree, it should happen, for the school's PR purposes more than anything, before NSD.

Ha! I forgot about that. You're nobody until Lane Kiffin falsely accuses you have cheating.
|4 years 16 weeks ago||We are concerned about it too||
We are concerned about it too as fans of the team. I trust him when he says they will keep it under the limit. I also trust he isn't doing it by forcing kids out. Well, I take that back. He's forcing Jamaal Berry out, but because Berry has broken the law and team rules recently. There are some other players we all know are going to transfer that are probably waiting to decide where they are going before they announce that they are leaving.
|4 years 16 weeks ago||This is why I like this site.||
This is why I like this site. It's biased, but fair minded. Bret is heavily implying a lot in lately, but has yet to actually say or accuse anyone of anything. It might be because he has no clue what Meyer is doing, it might be because he has never seen some of Meyer's tactics and thinks they are therefore illegal, and it might also be because they are illegal. But I haven't heard him say anything specific so I think it's all just sour grapes. Dantonio is the same. He won't get his Tressel tree treatment anymore, and he's not happy about it. I have loved Hoke's responses to it so far as well. By the way, Meyer will be in the same room as these guys later today. Could be interesting (probably won't be).

Ok, BB's interview and quote never says Meyer said that "difference between B1G and SEC" comment. Bret says that he was offered a coaching job several years ago in the SEC and was told that as a reason why he should come down the SEC from the B1G and it turned him off. He says it in an ambiguous way that it was some, possibly even former, SEC coach who offered him a job.

We OSU fans still have no clue what NW did to piss Tress off, but they were the only team he would ever run the score up on. He had bigger margin of victory against NW than he did against most MAC schools. They must have rejected him on prom night in high school or something.
|4 years 17 weeks ago||The sketchiest thing I've||
The sketchiest thing I've heard so far is that one of the current scholarship players is Adam Griffin, considering his father, two time Heisman trophy winner Archie, is a faculty member who presumably makes enough money to afford what I would also presume would be legally discounted tutition, that they might take his scholarship away.
|4 years 17 weeks ago||I think some people were||
I think some people were confused. I know Urban and the staff know that what's going on with the 82 limit. They will be close though, that is for sure, but that is his intent. He wants to get as many of his players in here to get the team to what he wants, running his system, ASAP. Everyone already counts Berry as gone, and I've heard rumors of several other players hunting for transfers (non-spread players worried about PT, trouble makers that Urban won't put up with, friends/loyalists to the Tressel regime that is gone, etc.).
I understand the interest here and on OSU blogs, because like I said before, they are going to push it, but they have reasons and won't be doing it at the expense of anyone who wants to play and can play a la Saban's forced medical waivers, etc.
|4 years 17 weeks ago||Also, EE's count in last||
Also, EE's count in last year's class. We will be at our max of 82 scholarship players even if they signing class is 25+ (which again if it goes over 25 it's because of the 6 EEs). But next year's class will be more like 15-17 signees, but I expect them to be 15-17 of the best recruits in the country.

Apparently something soured OSU on Diamond. I hope that after Dodson flips to OSU it doesn't matter who dumped who, because we've moved on. OSU and UofM clearly are head and shoulders above the rest of the B1G in recruiting this year, and I like it that way.

I had read (from the opposite prospective) that Brewster owned Martin yesterday, but Michigan Mike claimed most battles today. I love watching OSU/UofM battles. OSU fans don't go to hockey games. It's a shame since they are very good this year. I would expect the stadium to be half empty and UofM should be able to overwhelm the OSU fans no problem. I live up here and I only get to see OSU when they play at Munn or Yost, unless I want to drive 6hrs.
|4 years 19 weeks ago||First off, nice work. Now||
First off, nice work.
Now on to my poking holes in your OSU synopsis.
Offense: Remember that offense w/Posey that scored 34pts on you and was a few over throws of said Posey from beating you? Well now they have a QB that won't be a freshmen again, an actual OC, and a HC with HC experience (and oh, by the way 2 NCs). Now, I understand that Posey is gone, but he will be replaced with WRs that now have experience. The OL will be a work in progress but it should be good enough to buy Braxton enough time to throw and/or dash for first downs. He shredded your LBs and DBs pretty easily.
Defense: Luke Fickell goes back to coaching just defense full time. He returns a lot of starters. Ryan Shazier and Bradley Roby were all-B1G caliber as freshmen, should he deadly as sophs.
Not to mention that game is in Columbus, where I will remind you that you haven't won since 2000.
|4 years 19 weeks ago||I don't think there is nearly||
I don't think there is nearly enough outrage this year to make this happen. 2004 there wan't the climate for it quite yet. And I think there will be a change towards a more playoff like format that will prevent this from ever happening, which is good. But I think, if there were the perfect storm: three teams went undefeated, high profile teams = lots of fan interest in an extra game, money/venue/etc provided by wealthy almuni, I was just wondering if the outrage could have fueled something to actually go down.
|4 years 19 weeks ago||That's the way I figured it||
That's the way I figured it might actually happen. Someone sponsor it, but I figured they'd have to give the NCAA a cut. I'm sure the NCAA would allow a waiver if they got a big enough cut. I'm just upset it wasn't Arkansas that was screwed over because Jerry Jones would have opened up his monster stadium to host his beloved Razorbacks against the BCS champion. There'd be enough money to go around, I'm sure.

|4 years 23 weeks ago||To me it's a gamble either||
To me it's a gamble either way, but I guess maybe less so one way over the other. It's a question of 1)get the best pieces to fit my system vs. 2) get the best pieces possible and plan a system around them. Either way, guys can be a bust, so that's a wash. 1 is a gamble in that you have fewer recruits to work with if you must get ones that fit, and therefore may end up settling for lower rated players. 2 is a gamble in that you might be forcing together a rag-tag group of superstars that will either mesh and dominant or clash and fail.
|4 years 23 weeks ago||They don't have two staffs.||
They don't have two staffs. They have one staff that has so far 3 new guys, only one of who has actually started working for OSU and doing recruiting only. The staff also includes several guys who will coach the bowl game that won't be around next year, those guys aren't recruiting at all. The waiver by the NCAA allows us to go over the limit of 10 coaches, but only allows that 7 at any given time to recruit. BTW, UCLA just got approved for it too, Illinois will likely soon, Miami got it last year. And apparently Michigan didn't do it when they hired RR only because they hired him a month too late to qualify for it.
|4 years 24 weeks ago||Having two staffs is kinda of||
Having two staffs is kinda of an editorialization of the facts. We have been allowed to go over the normal limits, as long as the coaches over the limit don't do any actual coaching of the players or bowl game prep. So Urban and Mike Pantoni are doing recruiting only, and Fickell, Drayton, Vrabel, and a few others are doing both. Guys like Jim Bollman, Jim Heacock, and Dick Tressel are probably not doing much of either to be honest as they are gone come Jan.

“This is not a waiver that is out of the ordinary,” he said.
“If you look at NCAA case precedents, there are a handful of these that go on every year, depending on football coaches or whatever spot it might be across the country. It tends to be more typical in football because of the gap between the end of football season and the bowl game, and institutions hiring coaches before the bowl games.”
We saw a similar situation at Michigan when Rich Rodriguez was hired on Dec. 17, 2007 to replace Lloyd Carr in Ann Arbor. Carr and his staff coached the Wolverines to a 41-35 win over Meyer’s Gators in the Capitol One Bowl.

Apparently Luke helped recruit Urban to OSU. Luke is on record, early this season as saying something along the lines of, "I hate dealing with the media part of the HC job, you do all the same work as a DC or Asst Coach, you just don't have the media obligations." Plus Luke isn't your ego maniac type that he has to keep the HC job to save face or whatever. It's plausible.

Ya know, Desmond doesn't call games. He just comes in for short scripted, or at least pre-meditated, comments in the pre/post-game situations. I think the best word to describe him is diplomatic. He avoids saying nice things about OSU if he can, and avoids saying negative things about Michigan if he can. But not to an extent that he's biased. He does better than Herbie, because Herbie seems to go out of his way to seem un-biased, to a point that it's obvious and people see through it.

You said Michigan (as a team) has beaten Urban (as a coach) before. Therefore you were logically suggesting you would do it again. So I was saying, it is because your team, with a new coach now, is more important to the fact that you won than the who is coaching, because now Urban would be coaching a team that has beaten Michigan 9 of the last 10 times, but then I suggested jokingly that maybe it was because of the coach (Tressel).

Luke knew he was head coach for one year only. He's a great Buckeye and will be a great head coach, just not ready for the OSU quite yet. This year was a great little internship for him though. Some rumors flying that he's heading to Illinois, which I doubt highly.
But, regardless, any hiring by OSU would have been discussed with Luke first. I'm in the camp that wants Luke to stick around and be the HC sometime down the road when he's ready, because I like the guy, he recruits well, and is a great coach. Just not quite ready to be our head coach. I think there Urban and Gene Smith would at least talk to Luke about the possibility of staying around as an assistant.

I certainly wasn't ever in the "spread doesn't work in the Big Ten" camp. I felt that if RR was given a little more time, and apparently support from Carr, he could have been dangerous. November in the Big Ten is rough, and OSU/Tressel always had planned every week specifically for Michigan. But if RR could have fielded a D with a pulse, he'd have won 8 games this year no problem. OSU struggles mightly against spread offenses, so UoM running one scared me. I was shocked when we held you guys to 7pts last year.

Comment from the originator of we 11dubsters going all flightaware:
An update on the flight: I was told by my source that Urban was NOT on that flight. There was a man and a woman who got off the plane. My guess is Urban's wife went house shopping while Urban's lawyer ironed out the details of the contract. I believe Urban was in Kissimmee, FL yesterday. For all interested, the plane is returning to Gainesville this morning. Timeline fits. If it is Urban's lawyer, he'll probably have the contract in hand and ready for Urban to sign, which would fit the description of it being a "99.7% done deal".
|4 years 27 weeks ago||FWIW, 11w tweeted it, but||
FWIW, 11w tweeted it, but hasn't posted it on their website. I think this probably has legs, much like Miles to UofM had legs, but the reports coming out could turn this thing south in a hurry.
The other rumor spreading around, and I don't have links, just comment posts here and there from commenters I trust, are that Urbs is coming in and keeping Fickell on staff. Luke knew what this was, a fling. He will stay around for the same pay he's making this year to be the DC, we get a new offensive staff, and a HC with actual HC experience who knows how to use his timeouts, how to get the team prepared for big games AND games against teams from Indiana (not named ND). So, again, rumors, some of it probably aspirational more than truthful.

I remember that weekend I made my first post on here. I had been a lurker on here and I felt compelled to comment for the first time so I created an account on the Sunday and expressed respect. My Buckeye fandom centered around my family's connect to Woody and tangentially a lot of them really admired Bo too. I was taught that the "hate" could be respectful. I cried when I heard Bo died and I remember that made the long wait to watch the game that much worse. I just wanted the kickoff time to come so I could escape into the actual game. I lived just outside of A^2 at the time and threw a party every year with all my high school friends who were 90% UofM fans, but would invite up my Ohio buddies to even the party out and we'd play a flag football game at halftime every year. We sat around that day, and talked about Woody and Bo, one kid's dad played for Woody and Bo at OSU, another kid's uncle had played at UofM for Bo. We still played the flag game at halftime in the dark.

Rumor has it Urban only wants 2-3yrs at OSU, in which case he keeps Fickell aboard as HC in waiting/DC. Which is a rumor soley because it is most of our dream scenario to have an NC experienced HC show our unexperienced Buckeye legend how to win a few BCS games then he takes it from there for the next 15 yrs.

Yeah... I tried to stop it. Mainly because I knew I too would join in and get addicted. But here we are.

peak\peek\pique is a pet peeve of mine. Also, I almost posted this as a thread yesterday, I wondered how long it would take you guys to find it. I tried to stop this because I knew I would slip down the slope of addiction. I tried to warn them, but they didn't listen. It will be a long next several months.
|4 years 27 weeks ago||I said I would judge||
I said I would judge Fickell's one year experiment not on how our team prepared and played against Nebraska, Wisconsin and Michigan, but how it looked against Indiana, Purdue, and Toledo/Akron. Obviously he proved he's not ready to be our HC going forward. He will have the best Buckeye possible ready to show up in Ann Arbor, to which I look forward. It's gonna be a slobber knocker boys.

Thankfully your O coordinator isn't saving those bubble screens for us? Right? He wouldn't do that would he?
|4 years 28 weeks ago||How about this scenario: OSU||
How about this scenario: OSU gets a bowl ban in the next two weeks, Wisky loses to PSU, whoever wins OSU/PSU game =>PSU and OSU are 1a and 1b in the Leaders division, PSU decides to not parade the old man to a bowl game and forfeits the post season. How would that look in the B1G record books? A third place in a division team goes to the first ever championship game, not to mention what if they win.

I don't think that he might have been murdered. I think he might have known something, had proof of it on his laptop, and was put in a rock-hard place situation so he took his own life instead of making the decision to save children's lives by arresting a molester even though it made a big football program look bad. Coward.

|4 years 28 weeks ago||So to add to the whole tin||
So to add to the whole tin foil hat thing, apparently the AG working the investigation in State College originally was recently declared legally dead after he disappeared mysteriously in 2005. His car was found near a river, his laptop and hard drive were separately recovered from the river, his home computer had searches for "how to clear a hard drive" and "water damage notebook" in the history...

Yeah, I only have made the trip twice in a 10yr span, I thought there were more tolls than that, but maybe it was because I made a pit stop in North Chicago that I had to do more once and it's tainted my memory.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||With Dunn and Ball expected||
With Dunn and Ball expected next year, and Hyde and Hall coming back, we were already looking to convert Smith to an LB, where we might end up thin next year. Berry was a primary kick return option this year, but can be easily replaced with several other, possibly better options.

Sorry to double post, also sorry to thread jack.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||I have no idea how many||
I have no idea how many schollies we will have, one because I don't follow that kind of that specifically enough and two because I personally think we will lose some when the hammer drops.
The mood is that we all know the hammer will drop and no one knows when or how. I think the vast majority think it won't be too bad.
Personally, I think we avoid LOIC and FTM so no bowl ban. I think we lose 5-10 schollies tops over a 1-3yr span. I think I probably have a rosey outlook though. Gene Smith, while a PR nightmare, knows what he is doing with handling the case before the committee because he is very involved in the NCAA (not because he has connections that he's exploiting, but experience). I also think Gene will step down at the end of the saga.
One prediction I am certain of: Whatever we get, OSU fans will be out raged that it's too harsh, UofM fans will be outraged that it's not harsh enough.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||See I think the two biggest||
See I think the two biggest pet peeves on a roadtrip for me are traffic and tolls, both of which are featured prominently on the Chicago route. I-69 is wide open, fewer cops, higher speed limits, less traffic, less construction, just driving.

I second this. Lots of speed traps on 57.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||Little known to anyone,||
Little known to anyone, including fan bases of the teams themselves (especially young OSU fans), OSU and Illinois have a long rival. The Illi-Buck trophy is one of the league's oldest, we obviously can't compete with the jug though. The two teams don't play each other annually anymore, and have had as long as a 6yr lay off.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||Berry will likely be done at||
Berry will likely be done at OSU. He was already occupying a full bench of RBs, but next year we have (or hopefully will have) several RBs lined up to join too. I think Berry has some problems going on that we don't quite no about. I don't think we are getting the full story here and I don't think we ever will, but I hope the kid gets well and moves forward in life.

Yeah, if you are going to stop for food along the way, do it in or around Indy. There are very few other options.
|4 years 29 weeks ago||Go via Indy. I drove from||
Go via Indy. I drove from Lansing to Champaign last year to the OSU game and went one way, came back the other. It took no time at all to get thru Indy, but Chicago always has traffic. Plus you can avoid some Illinois tollways.
As for campus recommendations, I got very few, but you should go to campus hit up Green street, that's where everything is. There was some bar that some pretty good burgers, that probably tasted better because as the wait was long I drank a lot while I waited on it. Long wait didn't bother me and I used it as a signal that it must be worth it/popular.

|4 years 29 weeks ago||Actually we have to beat PSU||
Actually we have to beat PSU and have PSU lose another game, (they have already played Illinois so they have Neb at home and go to Madison to end the season) which is plausible. I'm hoping for a The Game prt deux in Indy. It's a long shot, but I'd love nothing more than to see a rivalry game again and the Big Ten's most storied programs showdown for the first ever Championship Game.

Storming the field is a hard to define kind of thing. Some ppl think you should never do it, some want to do it so badly they'll jump at any chance.
For OSU this past weekend, it was for many reasons. One it was a rowdy night game against a new almost rival for revenge. We had this, "we're back baby!" moment. We realized our freshmen QB, while still a freshmen, is going to be a future star. We have Big Ten title hopes still alive. Bret Bielema just got nut-punched for the second week in a row. All legitimate reasons if you ask me.

Yeah, everyone can take the night and read some 3 and out anyway. I've been convinced I should read the book to be an informed opposing fan. I fear I run the risk of feeling pity for Denard and the boys.
