Looking at the fact that we had the #2 offense last year with our record is pretty depressing. With that output, you'd thought we were in the championship game playing against Auburn...
Now I haz tearz!
|3 years 18 weeks ago||Denard Is Excitement!||
I am confident in Denard for two solid reasons:
1. His talent as a football player: You can't teach the things he's able to do on the field.
2. His work ethic: This is a very overlooked characteristic of Denard. His off-season leadership and workouts with the team helped attribute to his success on the field. He'll put in the work in the summer (as well as the rest of the offense) to get better running this new offense.

I am wishing for Mike Martin to move to the 3-tech, which is the scenario in a perfect world...however, I do think that the latter is what we will be stuck with, which is Mike Martin staying as a 1-tech : (. The D-line is really hanging on the development of a Big Will, Quinton Washington, and a bunch of redshirt freshman. If they step up, I will smack somebody like I just got Oprah pregnant (I'm rich bitch) and youtube that ho!

|3 years 28 weeks ago||What we need...||
We need a meeting between Hoke and Brian and someone one on hand to snap the picture of the handshake with Brian cheesing like Denard...
I love/ed RR and his offense! I even argued with my kids principal (a WVU alumn and husband coached the secondary under Nehlan) who said, "Aren't you glad their going to fire Rich Rod"? It was a school day with kids around and I put her in her place...but just like "facts are facts", Brian, RR just didn't pan out against the big boyz and we struggled against teams like IU and Illinois. It was time for a change and it just seems like you're bitter that we didn't get your hire, I understand. I was a Les Miles supporter...and felt a deep pain when we didn't get him (again). I even felt another "sting" when he did an interview with College Football Live yesterday and sounded like he was about to cry that he wasn't offered.
But...life goes on! Brian, we bleed maize and blue! We don't want to root for another university or team. Our kids know the victors and look forward to enrolling even though their still in diapers. These past 3 years have been the roughest years of our fandom and our heads have been hanging quite low for sometime. We are all hurting because we are not accustomed to losing...well, at least losing like this. This is the time to be more united than ever. Give this ball coach a chance and support Michigan even more! I don't give a damn who agrees with this saying or not...THIS IS MICHIGAN! We will return (however you define that) and we will be fine. I don't care about Oregon, USC, Stanford, whatever the hell is going on at Auburn, SEC, Big 12, yada, yada, yada...I only care about Michigan! So, we got your point and you have made those points clear on this blog and on the radio....NOW IT'S TIME TO MOVE ON

Response OSU: This is the most important game on the schedule!!!
I love you, Hoke--no homo!
|3 years 28 weeks ago||Good Post!||
I will be the first to tell you that I absolutely hated this hire for these reasons:
1. Wanted Harbaugh, then we missed.
2. Wanted Miles, then felt we missed (again).
3. Felt like Desmond Howard felt when Hoke name was mentioned by Kirk..."Hoke? Where'd that come from."
4. I don't know much about Hoke, even though I live in Indy (not too far from Ball State) and remember the talk about the BSU run some years ago.
Now that I've had a chance to check out the only game that seems to be on the internet (Poinsetta Bowl), I've really warmed up to our new coach and am excited about seeing a full utilization of all of our talent. If you don't like the guy, it's probably because of one of the reasons mentioned above and you really need to at least check out the bowl game.
I was a huge RR supporter and wanted a 4th year for him. Other than the defense, the only criticism I had off RR is that Denard was being used in a way that no QB should be used...that is he was being ran too many times. I've been playing football since the age of 3 and I know that being hit like that play after play will eventually catch up to you. I do not believe a qb should run the ball 29 times in a game and I cringed everytime Denard would get hurt because one injury could be your career. I'm sure someone talked to him about this before, so he might be more welcoming to the fact that he don't have to be utilized like he was last year. Also, I'm anxious to see how our receivers (who are a solid group) will perform in our new offense.
Go Team, Go Coach Hoke, and GO BLUE!!!

|3 years 35 weeks ago||My Source...||
My source told me that Gerg had a hair appointment during the meeting times. He could not push his appt. to another time. Since his hair is the strength of our defense, I think we should give Greg "Samson" Robinsn a break.
|3 years 35 weeks ago||The Problem...||
The problem with comparing our losses by point margin this year to last year is that you fail to take into consideration that the teams that we played last year will also imporive or like in Purdue's case, due to injury, will actually be a worse team. It's obvious that Wisconsin, MSU, and Iowa (to an extent) have all gained experience and are much more mature teams. I'll take those losses. So out of the 4 games we've lossed, 3 have been to teams that were (are) serious big ten contenders. I'll take that record over the one we had last year and if we can put together a servieable defense, we will have a lot more wins to add to the bunch
|3 years 37 weeks ago||I've been...||
I've been tossing that play around in my head (didn't DVR) all night long...
If I'm not mistaken (have to check the replay tonight), the corner and safety played that one correctly. The flats were covered and Mouton should have read the RB out of the back field. It was actually one of the best offensive play calls I've seen all year and is tough to defend, but not impossible to defend. Scheelhaase can throw it to the flats, corner bites he can throw the post, safety bite he can throw the deep post, bite on the qb in the wheel route is wide open, or if everyone is covered Scheelhaase has open field to run.
Also, on the play where Roh noticeably did the "basketball" shuffle to the inside on the zone read, I think Mouton was supposed to scrape and play contain. They both were moving in the same direction (to the inside) and were no where near making a play.
|3 years 38 weeks ago||WHAT!?!?||
In all of my years of football, I have never heard of a receiver going for 246 yards in one game and is magically ignored by defenses for the rest of the season.

|3 years 41 weeks ago||I seem to always have to||
I seem to always have to explain your above points every football season...just because someone runs a 4.3 or can lift 300 lbs does not translate into a great football player. It's about what you do on the field. A 4.3 - 40 time is straight line speed, but does not translate to quickness or playing fast and decisive football on Saturdays (or whatever day you play the game). That's why I like to pay attention to a players clocked time in the shuttle drill as well as their 40 time.
I expect a "year two" jump for our secondary. They have the talent and the game will slow down for them drastically as they get more playing time and confidence.
|3 years 41 weeks ago||"After 13 years of sweeps to||
"After 13 years of sweeps to the short side...
Amen! I also don't miss the WR screen then punt senario either (single wideout and corner in man that didn't have a high probability of success).
We have a historical offense that is consistently putting the offenses of Michigan's past to shame. Seriously, the things that can be done in this offense are numerous. If the safeties play run, we can kill them with a seam. If they play deep, we can kill them with the legs of Dillithium. If the DE wants to crash, we can kill em with the iso. If the DE tries to anticipate that, the bubble screen is wide open. It's the same concept as the triple option, but the options are all over the field.
|3 years 41 weeks ago||We had a bad defense last||
We had a bad defense last year, too. Since you seem like a fan that doesn't pay much attention, let me spell it out to you.
We lost BRANDON GRAHAM on the d-line...and Woolfolk, Warren, Turner, and Vlad in the secondary. You cannot sit there with a level head and tell me that our defense is not what we all expected. How can you say this team is not improved? Is it all based off of an already expected defense performance?
Our offense has vastly improved with added depth and experience. Do you realize we possess a potent offense or do you just look at a MSU performance of 17 points and base the season off of that? You are the first person that has said that this team has regressed from 2009 to 2010...you sir are an idiot!

|3 years 48 weeks ago||Speaking of Pat White...||
I had the opportunity to check out D-Rob's high school highlights (again) this morning and decided to check out WVU highlights from 2005 and 2006.
I'm not going to lie guys, I am still happy that we have two qb's we can with, but I get EXCITED about what Denard can do in this offense. On some of those Pat White runs, he had a wide open field to run because defenses knew he can get the ball (even with his not so perfect mechanics) to his receivers. The little spy that the D was putting on him was pointless, he would just run right past him.
Denard was predictable last year and still rushed for over 5 yds per carry with 8 in the box. Now with defenses having to rush four or a fifth man off the end or up the middle, we can finally have Denard inflict some real damage as he eats up yards in their vain zone coverages.
|3 years 48 weeks ago||Wow||
I think people keep forgetting that Denard, though not as much as Tate, did get reps last year in actual games.
Stop treating him like he's a redshirt freshman. He didn't redshirt last year, made freshman mistakes, and clearly wasn't fully comfortable with the offense. Don't sit at the computer and act like he didn't show us flashes of a great talent. That TD run during the Western game was just plain sick. The TD drive in the Iowa game also showed that Denard can make the throws (he made some good passes during that drive and made a freshman mistake to seal our fate).
A statement like "Not sure anyone has said he (Denard) is faster than last year" is absurd
|3 years 48 weeks ago||All Indiana Tour||
I am going to all the away games here in Indiana because I want REVENGE!
I already have my Notre Dame tickets (was able to get 4 good ones) and working on the rest. Living here in Indianapolis is not fun when Purdue fans walk around with amnesia
|3 years 48 weeks ago||Or...||
How about a QB that can both run and throw (meaning full package)? I think in our qb gang bangin' (The Tate's on the left with the red rags vs. the Denard's on the right rockin' the blue) we tend to denote one qb's ability to boost our favorite qb for the job.
The reality is that we now have two good qb's on this team that we can win with. I'm confident that both Denard and Tate can lead this team and bring us W's. Be sure of this: Our quarterback battle will not be decided on the first snap of the U-Conn game.
Oh, I have to be honest...I'm with the grey rags that are bangin' "Gardner to redshirt". I just don't want to do the freshman qb thing all over again and I don't care how much you state, "but Henne was a freshman".

You just can't ignore the next line, "It's not just in completion rates and all that stuff." I think what Coach Magee just said, along with all of the talk since spring, clearly points to a shift to Denard. Not saying he's the clear starter, but obviously Tate does not have the qb position on lock.
|4 years 13 weeks ago||My Dream...||
My dream I had was totally opposite...though maybe a little more weird
Our team had a "swag" that was amplified beyond measure. We were in our home jerseys and our offense was explosive. In the dream, our opponent (don't know who it was) could not keep up with us at all. It was a short dream that had only one play, so I'll describe the play.
I was in the endzone and I could see the play begin on the other side of the field...in a literal blink of an eye I could see about 7 offensive players (we were on offense) coming straight towards me. They crossed the endzone together for a touchdown and that's when I noticed that these kids weren't even wearing helmets. Of course, that was the weird part.
I only remember Odoms and Koger, but no one was tired and had a look of "let's take it to these bums". This is what happens when you mix Michigan Football obsession with late night entrees.

|4 years 45 weeks ago||Agree||
Yeah, some of the info can easily be debunked by a defense that shows blitz and drops to zone or show a cover 2 and roll to cover 3.
We won a minor league football championship last year by doing a lot of "roll" coverages. It confuses qb's and causes a lot of mistakes. Our defense was similar to Michigan's with hybrid OLB that brought plenty of heat

|5 years 13 weeks ago||There Will Be||
Tate has great upside and I see him, at this point, having a great future at qb unless somebody comes in better. There will be sacks and bad decisions. Now, it's in the coaches hands of how are they going to prepared for the season. Hopefully, we learned a lot from last year's debacle and are not trying to put too much of the burden of the O in Tate's hands. We have some good running backs that can do damage and an O-line that is showing promise. What Tate does bring to the table that we didn't have last year are the ablility to make an accurate throw and the ability to run. Trust me, even though Tate is a true freshmen, defenses will have to respect those abilities and won't run a 5-5-1 defense.
In baseball, if we knew someone couldn't hit it out the park, we would all scoot in so far that in my opinion we could be call in-fielders. In the OSU game, everyone became D-lineman and linebackers.
|5 years 13 weeks ago||Not too worried||
I'm not too worried about the defense...I've been playing defense my whole career and can tell that the defense will catch up. It's not that thick of a playbook for the defense and they'll settle in. A cover 3 will always be a cover 3, it just maybe called something different in the playbook.
I know a lot of people in our fan base believe that 8 wins is too much optimism, but I think we can all come to a couple of agreeable points:
1. We don't want our savior doing too much. (He can save us from the sins of 2008 in 2010)
2. We need to rely more on the supporting cast, which are the REAL saviors of 2009! That is the OL, our deep running backs, and a couple of talented receivers that we expect to be able to get open in a spread offense.
3. Graham is a beast! He will be double teamed all game, which will allow Martin and Van Bergen to step up. Martin was a stud last year as true freshmen and I expect more this year. Also, this can open up some blitz packages that provide pressure from the outside (nickel back, i.e. Harrison).
4. The million dollar question for 2009 is our secondary
Remember Iowa in 1990...they were a run heavy (maybe even run-only) type of team. I can't even remember the qb's name. M needs to rely on the run this year to transition whoever is behind the center. Hard pill to swallow is that we have 2 true freshmen quarterbacks, DEATH, M.C. Lil' Threet (CONE), and that other guy*

|5 years 23 weeks ago||Yeah...||
We forget that Sheridan beat Threet for the job and started against Utah. Threet looked bad in practice according to most beat writers before the first game.
I will not become the mop (on those commercials) singing "Baby Come Back" on Threet's porch. I don't have amnesia...I remember seeing the obvious disgust in RR's body language with the QB's, which was confirmed by Magee's statment. The difference between Sheridan and Threet was pounds and height. An NFL ref told me after hearing about my semi-pro career that the difference between "them" and me is a couple inches in height and the fact that they run a 4.3 and I run a 4.5 (Darn Gene-Hating God)!
RR was just honest with the kid and Threet isn't ignorant. I believe it was a combination of the Tate fest on campus and what young Tate showed in drills that prompted Threet to go to coach to ask some tough questions.
He's gone, now let's move on.

I was about to ask a question about ND's O-line. Thanks for the answer.
"our offense will improve on the execution front.."
Yeah if we get back into the power-I. But, hey, I'm like you...a little naive and forever optimistic

I really hope RR makes it so that the qb's don't have to do too much too early. Maybe they should use the whole "Ryan Mallet" approach where we depend heavily on the running backs for the first couple games.
Just give it to Sam so I can hear..."See Sam! See Sam run! See Sam hurdle! See Sam score!
Saturday is not coming soon enough
