I would be leery of going into a non-STEM grad program no matter what the positives were unless your parents are loaded; take it from a guy married to someone who just got a humanities PhD and ended up in a really good spot--adjunct at M--against all odds. It is rough out there for grad students who can't turn their degrees into industry jobs.

I'm not sure what happens if Michigan has to find another tackle. They usually go with "best OL comes in" no matter what, so that seems to be Braden. Whether he or Kalis moves outside is unknown. FWIW, the pushing from behind list isn't ordered.

I was there for every game except the opening playoff series because I had made plans under the assumption Michigan would not finish between 6th and 8th in the league. I just didn't write about it, because what was I going to say?

war daddy is basically slang for any really good player. At the clinic last year Mattison referenced some defense where you could pull a safety down into the box but said "you'd better have a war daddy at field corner" if you did so.

Jack Miller's brother committed there but I don't think M showed any interest. 

Michigan doesn't want to deal with Levenberry's helicopter dad, and he's only so high on Rivals because he gives the scoop to Farrell. Everyone else has him a borderline top 250 guy. He's not a slam dunk.

UConn's home field is a boondoggle and the legislature will freak if they move the Michigan game. Brandon must know this, but he's got to create the future so he keeps talking shit about UConn's inability to understand his grand plan.

The latter bits: there is no one assigned to the safety on the first play from scrimmage, and whatever Denard's reading on the option play does not appear to be the right thing to read. There is literally no one to block the LB on that. 

I agree that the line's not blocking well but that Lewan block is tough though since at best you're going to be pushing a guy from a crappy angle; same with Mealer.

Even if he picks the right guy, what are the chances he gets a block that keeps him out of the hole? I don't think they're good. It seems like M does not much faith in their ability to combo block DL and as a result puts their OL in tough spots on plays like this.

I feel that we've crossed some sort of Rubicon when the Reading Comprehension Fail faction in the comments is taking me to task for not blaming Hoke and Borges enough and ripping on Rodriguez.

I will hand out plus minus for blocks like that, but the one Roundtree got wasn't relevant since as you guys note that guy wasn't catching Dileo. I didn't minus him because it's a lot ot ask Roundtree to know which of the various guys he can block is the right one.

OSU short circuited with some Miller turnovers or it would have been a lot uglier in that game -- Borges may be playing to prevent the INTs but can't do anything about fumbles, really, of which IIRC OSU had two painful ones. They did do a better job overall of moving the ball, and they're in year one of a Meyer offense with a sophomore. 

Of course, they had to because they never know when their defense is going to punch itself in the face. I don't think the criticism of Borges in this post is particularly harsh -- I mean, the first section is all about how they, you know, won. Instead of lost like against ND.

2/3 is the protection points awarded. so they got 2 out of 3 available points because it was a five or seven step drop with a blitz. 1/1 is usually a quick throw or a three man rush.

If you look at the guy's head, Johnson is looking right at the #2 until he breaks out, then turns his attention elsewhere. he's not looking in teh backfield at all. 

Yeah, he's moving towards the strength of that formation because he senses that numbers advantage and knows he can't get caught inside.

On each of the first four interceptions there is an defender in the thrower's face. Three of them are unblocked, the other was a very good pass rusher against redshirt frosh FB Kerridge. That's a failure. The alternatives there are sacks.

Denard screwed up. Borges did too. You don't have a "fine" game by putting Denard in a position no QB excels in over and over. 

The converse of all the people criticizing me for not criticizing Denard enough are the people who think Borges was "fine" in his fifth complete debacle in 11 attempts. But it's all on Denard, okay. Ron Zook had a fine game, you guys. John L is fine, you guys.

If you ignore him entirely it's difficult to block a screen out there, and you may expose yourself to the formation changing into something where both those guys are eligible, and then you're scrambling.

It's tough for Demens because there is absolutely no delay at the LOS for that guy. Even if he doesn't get cut he still has to go around that guy and will be delayed long enough to be out of the play. Last year, Michigan would punish that because you just singled up Martin or RVB or whoever. This year (against this opponent) Roh and Ryan get annihilated. 

I do agree he shouldn't get cut that easy, thus the minus, but this is by no means all on him.

Generic donations on the OSU side are donations to the "Buckeye Fund" and clearly should be added to ticket revenue. Most of the generic donations on the Michigan side are mandatory seat PSLs. A small amount is not specified; my assumption is that those are people raising their victors points levels to get seats or get better seats. In any case, the difference in ticket revenue alone between the two schools is negligible.

It's not hard to be missing core class A or core class B and have to jump through a lot of clearinghouse hoops. You pretty much have to have a plan if you're going to be a recruitable athlete, and that sort of plan is not one that CHL teams are going to encourage.

With the USHL in place there's no reason for college to open itself up to former junior players. You want to be Jack Campbell, be Jack Campbell. Don't come crying back to us after you get traded to the Soo.

Your opening paragraph seems to invalidate all of college football. Yeah, the games are random and there aren't enough to actually make a determination. That problem is intractable; I don't try to address it.

What the playoff proposal does do is give you a team that definitively had the best season, something that the BCS basically never does. The ideal number of teams in a playoff this year is one: LSU. But usually it's not so clear cut and even when it seems that clear cut you get things like OSU-Miami or OSU-Florida that totally invalidate your RANDOM STUPID GUESS as to who the top team is, let alone the top two.

You don't want to get too aggressive taking on that block because it can go badly if the RB bounces and you don't have any support. Black's play is stanard when the LBs aren't shooting behind you on a specific playcall.

When in doubt, assume the defense wants the player to go inside of the EMLOS.

That's actually Toussaint. Even if it was, you just know the corner is going to hop outside, so you should threaten outside and then cut right behind your blocker.
