|3 hours 16 min ago||Well they expanded||
the field to 24 teams for this years tournament so that helped. But they ended up runner-up in their group so they may have still made a 16 team field.
For Qualifying they happen to be in the same group with a really down Denmark squad along with terrible Serbia and Armenia. They finished runner-up to Portugal and in fact won at Portugal to open qualifying.

Then The Palace hosted for four years, Breslin hosted its first semi's and finals weekend in 1994. Breslin hosted some of the semi-final games but not the finals for the first couple years it was open.
The MHSAA home office was on Trowbridge Rd about two blocks away, it moved the finals to EL (mostly) for convenience and its central location. The MHSAA offices are still only a couple miles further North in EL.
|2 days 1 hour ago||I'm as homer Michigan fan||
as anyone but the Breslin is the perfect location for the MHSAA finals being centrally located in the state and can handle those rare games that everyone wants to see. I'd much rather have them in EL than AA.
The only thing I wish would happen is a separate floor without the Spartan logos for the MHSAA.

is a very balanced baseball league. Very little difference between the 1-10 teams. Even #11 Rutgers is holding on to a .500 overall record.
Minnesota, leading the BIG, lost a mid-week game to South Dakota St.
Michigan is hurt by not playing Purdue in the Big Ten schedule, though they benefit by not playing Indiana. Still I'd rather have 3 games against a truly awful Purdue.
Michigan is essentially tied with Ohio State, Michigan State and Nebraska, All 3 of those teams have played Purdue.

the Colorado administration made recruiting the kind of "athletes" McCartny brought to Boulder a lot more difficult. Colorado being the power they were for that brief decade plus ever again is unlikely.

avoiding certain games when a pair of announcers is doing a game. If the game is lopsided or kind of meh to begin with I'll just skip it and go watch something else. I am particularly not fond of Ed Cunningham who I think is just an absolutely horrible color guy. Brock Huard isn't very good either.
The pairing of Fowler and Herbstreit has definately cut down on my late ESPN/ABC watching. Herbie is great, Fowler not so much. He was a much better studio analyst.
Back in the late 80's and 90's if Keith Jackson or Ron Franklin were doing a game I would watch just because they were doing them.

Also should help explain why it was so damn easy for ESPN to can Schilling. Gave them a reason, boom, gone.

Oregon was worse than Rutgers as a program. If you work at it and give the head coach great resources, anybody can be good.
Will Rutgers (or Maryland) get to that point? Probably not mostly because of the obstacle of their division. Doesn't mean they can't become respectable.
If you'd told me State would be where they are now 20 years ago, I would have laughed at you.

That some of the names involved would "shock you".
There was also a rumor that tried to tie the murder of a Penn. attorney to this.
Starting to believe this is way way bigger than just a PSU thing.

Relax man its baseball, stuff happens. In the Big Ten the most important thing is making the tournament and doing well there.
|4 weeks 9 hours ago||Michigan relievers||
just couldn't throw strikes. MSU got good balls to hit on good pitch counts and drilled them in the 8th.
The two miscues on fielding by the pitchers were costly, twice the UM catcher couldn't keep a poor pitch in the dirt in front of him that took them out of potential double plays. Caused a lot of stress on relievers that weren't throwing strikes.
Those are two good baseball teams.

talent has no part in the discussion
|7 weeks 4 days ago||that is completely false||
only schools themselves can petition the MHSAA to move up a division, but only in those sports that use A, B, C, D. The MHSAA does not move teams up or down based on success or dominance. If a team bounce between divisions in football its due to the variances in their own enrollment and the numbers of qualifiers above or below them based on enrollment.
The Division allignments for football are not pre-set like in Baseball or softball. In football its playoff qualifiers first, then enrollment.
|7 weeks 4 days ago||important to note||
the Divisions 1-8 are based off the number of playoff qualifiers, THEN enrollment. Berrien Springs is a small Class B school for most other sports with 495 enrollment.
Football Divisions are different every year. There can be a boatload of Class A programs making the playoffs driving some A teams into Division 3, and B teams into Divison 5.
You generally would get Division broken down like this
Class A-----Division1 and 2
Class B-----Division 3 and 4
Class C-----Division 5 and 6
Class D-----Division 7 and 8
With the introduction of 8 man football you tend to see more teams dropping down a division as the number of Class D schools that play full 11-man football and qualify for the playoffs continues to erode.

Hackenberg is that he's been told how great he is all his life and simply can't handle disappointment. Including the fact that he just isn't that good and consistently makes terrible decisions.
No moment got that point across to me than in the Michigan game when he was sacked on 3rd down inside our 10 yard and immediately ran off the field not even allowing his team to consider going for it when they really should have thought about it.
He had no confidence in his coaches or offensive line and it always looked like he was upset at everyone else except himself for his incredibly slow reactions and poor decisions.
I would guess Franklin promised him he would get the oline fixed and it simply didn't happen. Hackenberg probably feels bitter about returning and potentially leaving money on the table.

|21 weeks 1 day ago||1 great||
damn first year thats for sure. Think of the pure misery after that Maryland game in 2014. Complete 180 in direction and excitement for the future of Michigan football.
|21 weeks 1 day ago||Defense played||
"great", but lets not kid ourselve that Florida offense was as advertised. How they won the SEC East with that monstrosity is a real mystery to me. Tenn and Geo are both much better overall teams.
|21 weeks 1 day ago||when the oline||
dominates, this is what a Harbaugh offense looks like, and it can be even better
|21 weeks 1 day ago||This is not||
a violation of NCAA rules.
|21 weeks 2 days ago||Well||
had the ball bounced our way this year and we somehow beat OSU and Iowa that could have been us getting emaciated tonight, or worse next Monday.
So cool it.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||ugh||
I hope this isn't another Hand situation
|21 weeks 3 days ago||remember||
when Michigan won 9 of these in a row. At the beginning of that era they were calling it the Ron Mason Invitational.

would be terrible to follow if they had to report every traffic violation an athlete committed. Some people are just bad drivers and happen to be athletes.
|22 weeks 2 days ago||Charles was simply||
the best I ever saw. Will never forget his game vs Ohio State in 1997. Big time players make big time plays in big time games.
|22 weeks 3 days ago||The thing that actually||
upsets me the most is the way MSU had Payne befriend a dying blonde haired white girl to paint a different picture of a kid who pretty much raped a co-ed.
Disgusting piece of works over there in EL.
|22 weeks 3 days ago||college athletics||
is really just another toy of the wealthy now. That's just the sad truth.
Don't think so, ask yourself where Michigan Football, or for that matter, Michigan Athletics would be without Mr. Ross's contributions.
In return for those contributions the big money guys expect a level of control and access to programs. They become defacto professional sports franchise owners.

and Brady Hoke

ncaa rules are if you are suspended at one school for any reason you must sit out the suspension at your new school
Otherwise kids who received suspensions would just leave and go play at another school right away.
|23 weeks 4 days ago||the both have long||
hair thats too long and root for Michigan, clearly twins.
|23 weeks 4 days ago||Michigan has||
such a great track record with 5 star running backs out of high school
|23 weeks 5 days ago||Lets take the Tigers for example||
who had a rough year last year and would have been a candidate for relegation to the next level down of MLB.
Well, can't afford Verlander or Cabrera anymore so we'll have to trade them, probably won't get great value because everyone knows we have to let them go.
Free agents? Can't afford any because there is almost no TV money at this new level.
Attendance and concessions will probably tail off so we'll have to cut payroll a little more, see ya Kinsler.
Oh you don't want to play at this level of baseball Castellanos and Martinez, ok we'll trade you.
So are you Tiger fans looking forward to playing against Rochester, Toledo, Louisville with players you've never heard of?
Don't worry we have a plan to get back to the MLB by 2020, that is if we don't go broke by then.
In a nutshell thats what its like, it would be awful for American sports leagues to do this.
|23 weeks 5 days ago||Its||
the English Premier League, but the league sold naming rights to Barclay's Bank, so its referred to as the BPL, Barclays Premier League.
|23 weeks 5 days ago||to be fair||
11,000 is all their ground holds. They are the smallest club to ever compete in the EPL just edging out Blackpool who used temporary seats to hit 16,000
|23 weeks 5 days ago||I latched||
on to Liverpool because of Michael Owen after watching a 16 year old kid play for England in the World Cup in 1996. Over the years just tried to learn as much as I could about the club, the league and competitions with the help of Fox Sports, ESPN and now NBCSN.
Besides that I try to pick one of the promoted clubs to cheer for every year. Last year it was Leicester, this year Bournemouth.
The thing about the EPL is between matches among the top 4 and great rivalries like Liverpool/Everton, Arsenal/Tottenham, Newcastle/Sunderland there is almost always a really compelling game to watch each week. At the end of the year you get the title chase and Champions league chase and a number of crucial relegation games. Hardly ever a completely boring week. Then you have all the cup games and European competitions, fascinating some times.
I'm definitly not emotionally invested but I just find it entertaining and it usually kills off a Saturday or Sunday morning.
|23 weeks 5 days ago||Leicester City||
were in the Premier League 15 years ago played at a wonderfully quaint English stadium called Filbert Street. You could see the row houses over the roof of the far side stands with their dark brick chimney's and white trimmed windows. Relegated in early 2000's just as they built a new stadium and found themselves in the lower leagues with an expensive team and expensive stadium bills to pay. Relegated again to the third tier of English football and have battled back to be in the BPL.
You've glossed over Leicester a bit. Last year they were dead last in the league for most of the year and looking at relegation again but went on an incredible end of year run to remain safe. Now first place. A great story for sure.
Despite being able to buy any player they want Chelsea brought in almost no one this summer and its as if all of their players aged beyond their years in 3 months. Crazy
|23 weeks 6 days ago||Do not and never will||
understand how kids can risk the millions they'll make in the NFL for one night of partying.
|23 weeks 6 days ago||you do realize for most||

of that kind of football, its just crap

At a D1 school followed by nfl head coaching experience is pretty much the definition of over qualified to be a college coordinator.
I'd be very surprised if Schiano doesn't capitalize this into a major D1 job after 1 or 2 years
|24 weeks 1 day ago||I don't think||
this is a home run hire but its a good one. Schiano's being brought in because Urban's two primary rivals run NFL type offenses. Good move by him I think.
|24 weeks 1 day ago||first of all||
I never dragged Rich Rodriguez into this, but since you did I don't think he's a great leader of men either.
Second, you have not offered any evidence of his "great leader of men" other than 4 recruits committed to him. He might be a very likeable guy, in fact I did like him, but he simply wasn't a good head coach and has nothing on his resume to suggest he is other than basically two succesful seasons over his entire head coaching career.
|24 weeks 1 day ago||STuff like this||
is coming out in the open because the NFL is doing their homework on a potential draftee.
I don't care either way. It was pretty telling to me that he wasn't voted as captain by his teamates but even that can mean nothing.
I've never met the kid and he makes very rare appearances for local TV interviews, so there isn't much public interaction to go on. It is weird though the winningest QB in your programs history isn't used more as the face of your program. Keep in mind this is the same damn program that paraded around Jeff Smoker like the second coming of Brady Quinn as a Heisman candidate before he'd even done one thing to deserve that.
|24 weeks 1 day ago||asking a serious question||
what proof is there of his great leadership of men? His career record is mediocre at best.
He might be a great position coach, I'd be fine calling him that but there is little eveidence is a very good head coach.
|24 weeks 1 day ago||Seemed about right||
until I started thinking about it, I'm not sure there is a level within FBS where Brady Hoke should get a job.
|24 weeks 2 days ago||With the due respect||
#1 is terrible.
Without the play MSU isn't even in the conversation for playoffs and wouldn't have even made the Big Ten title game.
|24 weeks 2 days ago||We blocked it wrong||
with a split end having no one to block. We made it 11 vs 6 on the line. MSU overloaded to one side and the inevitable happened once the ball was dropped.
In my recurring dream, O'Neil gets the snap clean and lofts a beautiful spiral in the flat to the wide open end who waltzes the final 55 yards backwards for the stake in heart TD.
|24 weeks 2 days ago||Good news||
is Florida doesn't run the read option.
Bad news, they have a running type QB and will likely install some of the same looks because of our Indiana and Ohio State games.
|24 weeks 2 days ago||I watched||
FSU-UF game the other day. Their defense is terrifying. FSU eventually wore them down and scored two late TD's via the run but we simply don't have FSU's running game. Going to be tough to move the ball if Jake isn't given good protection.
Fwiw, their offense is just woof. I was reminded of Maryland.
|24 weeks 3 days ago||I call bs||
because when it works its a thing of beauty to watch and tough as hell to beat
|24 weeks 3 days ago||different era||
though. Those kinds of kids are one and done, or two and done now. They had to stay 3 years back then. Michigan basketball would be fine this year if McGary were still around, yes?
Guys who left early have forced Michigan to play younger players who aren't ready yet and it shows.
|24 weeks 3 days ago||Beilein||
Inherited a mess of a program, none of his predecessors except Amaker had it worse
