I was wondering when you would starting putting content on YouTube! Unless it's there and I've missed it?
|27 weeks 6 days ago||Dissapointing||
I am totally bummed about this and yes this is one of the main reasons I invested in a Lifetime membership. I am a season ticket holder and have always used this program to get additional tickets to the home games that other friends and family wanted to attend. I can't imagine there's a benefit the AA provides that is/was used more consistently and by more people than the Football Saturdays program. How many people could possibly be using the job board or the True Blue travel program each and every year?
Also I cannot believe he said the demand for tickets has declined. First off, isn't there a waitlist again now? Demand is not declining for Michigan Football. Second, for all but the garbage can games, I cannot imagine StubHub prices will ever beat Face Value as long as Jimmy is at the helm.
His point about exclusivity probably means they are seeing a lot of these tickets resold on StubHub. Probably true, however, IMO not a reason to cancel the program. Every ticket in the stadium could potentially be sold on StubHub! No different for the AAUM tickets, it's just a fact of life. And by the way, the Athletic Department ENDORSES THE USE OF STUBHUB!! Unless they ended that relationship and I missed it.
So to me the justifications given for canceling are total horseshit.

This is a much better holistic tribute to Spike and his value to the team. Honestly I thought Brian was mailing it in (something Spike would never do) by just copying and pasting a single game column from last year. Thanks for this. There's too much tape out there of Spike being Spike to not create this post.
|1 year 7 weeks ago||ANSWER||
We were in the same situation last season. Go to the crisler ticket booth a couple hours before the game, hand them your normal tickets, they will hand you tickets in ADA seating in your same section. So for us, this meant sitting in a folding chair at the top of section 20 with all the space in the world, and easy access to bathrooms.

You didn't care enough to do anything about this "problem" until it threatened your revenue. Enacting change in the name of Protecting and Maximizing The Dollar is typically criticized around here. That said, this change is for the better clearly
|1 year 35 weeks ago||You are missing the point||
This interview is not your opportunity to make someone listen to you talk, as you put it. The applicants are not interviewing for something that you have the power to give them. You don't make the final admission decision, you don't define the criteria that is used to evaluate the applicants. You play one specific role in the process and the manual is very clear about the types of things to ask and why. As great as the suggestions might be, I don't think crowd sourcing questions from the mgoboard is what the people who designed the alumni interview program had in mind. I've done several of the interviews myself and I've read their manual. In my opinion, your job is to ask the applicants how you can help them better understand Michigan by answering whatever questions they may have while representing Michigan well. You also need to uncover any significant things about the applicant that they feel weren't adequately conveyed in their application. A kid's college choice is not something to play around with. The kids should be asking more questions than you.

Thanks for a great post - this type of informative hard working content is what mgoblog should focus on more, in my opinion at least.

They literally had a question at the end where you could write about anything you wanted.
Do you expect they read your mind and craft a question specifically for you?
|2 years 43 weeks ago||Agreed||
That was my immediate reaction to the post. DB gets criticized for making a decision that will appeal to a subset of fans that don't normally get to go to games... then DB gets criticized by ... fans.
Last week he was unfavorably compared to Mark Hollis because Hollis (w.r.t. Rose Bowl tix) wasn't making decisions based soley on money...
Some people just can't be pleased.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||A few reasons...||
I agree with other posters. This may not be ideal (compared to a home and home with a high quality opponent), but given the circumstances this move is not bad. Some possible motivations:
|2 years 44 weeks ago||DB bashing per usual||
It would indeed be nice to have a band. However you could also view this move as a way to get as many fans into the game as possible, which you deemed favorable when mark Hollis did it with rose bowl tickets. I mean, we are so desperate to bash DB that we are actually using Mark Hollis as the poster boy? As in, mark Hollis, from "lol mark Hollis" fame? The guy that that gave Glenn Winston a vote of confidence and gave trey Burke unsolicited twitter advice? I will never think Hollis is a better option than Brandon. Deep down I bet you feel the same.
|2 years 45 weeks ago||It's a ploy||
Michigan, K-State, Duke and Texas A&M players arrive in Tempe and Atlanta only to find out they've been duped. Instead of playing football, they all must travel to Cheyenne to observe and judge the annual cattle air show, where the BW3 Flying Buffalos will compete against the Chick-Fil-A Parachuting Cows.
The players will later be bused to BW3 headquarters to play with the buttons that control all the sprinkler heads in stadiums hosting all the other bowl games.
|2 years 45 weeks ago||Playing is voluntary||
If at any time Devin Gardner does not like his arrangement with the university, he can end it. My guess is that he won't do that, because he perceives value in being a student and an athlete. He probably assumes an investment of his time now will pay off later! Same reason anyone pursues higher education, or in his case perhaps college football, right? Without the UM providing a platform, he does not become a million dollar man.

If you buy season tickets, you are entitled to:
What am I missing here, regarding Loyalty? You're complaining about "access"? Why do you deserve access to watch the team practice??
|2 years 47 weeks ago||Good examples||
The old versions of the posters were free and were posted everywhere, but I'm guessing they were much cheaper to produce. I think they had ads on them too right? So maybe they were free (for the AD) to produce. The 3-D posters are cool and they don't have ads ... that's why they are $5.
The stadium open door policy was nice while it lasted, but I understand discontinuing this perk due to the new structures they built. There is more at risk now, if they were to just let people in and run the steps and explore: Break-ins, vandalism, overall security of new spaces. Plus the $10 tour allows you to see the luxury boxes that you can't even get access to on gameday.
I see your point here. I also understand the AD point of view, the $5 posters and the $10 tours.

Like anything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. I enjoy the stadium experience. I don't have a problem paying money for things I like. Tickets and concessions have never been free, have they? Water is free at the Hydration Station. I'm wondering what it is that used to be free, which was bought up, then sold to me?

So what you're saying is, a current high school kid was aware of Michigan's history in football even though this blog's board would have you believe he is too young to remember last time Michigan was relevant.
How does that work?!?!

I guess we know why the board has become overloaded with negativity and complaints recently - that attitude is set by the site owner.
Your team plays 13 times a year and you find a way to write an entire intro about how it was dull and not good enough in a homecoming game that ended in a 29 piont win. Come on man.
I'm also confused by "Am I a bad fan for wishing something interesting would happen?" ...You complain about anything that can be categorized as a "wow experience". After UTL2 Ira asked you what you thought of the stadium environment that night and you just said "I'd rather talk about the game"

I think Walt visits his partner from Grey Matter, because he wants people to know it wasn't just the company name he contributed to. I don't know if the huge gun in the trunk is for Grey Matter or the Nazis. Does Walt care about avenging Hank's death anymore? Walt essentially turned himself in before getting reincentivized by the Grey Matter thing. He knows his family hates him.
The ricin... I could see him using it in a way that isnt revealed to us until later.
Marie won't be able to do much while she's in protective custody. I guess she may no longer be in protective custody since at least 4-6 weeks have passed while Walt was in the cabin. Marie still loves Skyler and the kids. If she does get an opportunity to kill Walt she would do it.
Jesse has been slaving away for the entire time Walt is in the cabin. Maybe Walt seeing his blue stuff on the market makes it obvious Jesse is cooking it. Walt might think that is fitting for Jesse and leave it alone. Jesse knows the Nazis will kill Brock if he tries to escape, so the only way he gets out is suicide, or someone else rescuing him. Maybe the Feds find it? It would be great to see Jesse get himself out with Chemistry ... like how they gassed the two guys in the RV in season 1 or how they killed the guys down in Mexico. If Jesse has an opportunity to kill Walt, he kills Walt.
Fe - Iron (Blood)
Li - Lithium (Meth)
Na - Sodium (Tears)
I would end the series by showing that home video clip shot during Holly's baby shower where Walt sincerely tells Holly that her family loves her.

Not going to conjecture about whether it was rape or not. For those of you who are totally rejecting the entire story ... Gibbons did say that he was with the girl.
The fraternity (that Gibbons was not a member of) that it happened in was put on probation by its national organization.

If you're talking about Saturday night, then you'll be required to buy a single ticket that covers both games. So consider face value of $120 ... not $60. You can't split it up.

|3 years 28 weeks ago||Face Value||
I know face value for my seats on Saturday night is $120 ($60 * 2 games). I have some of the worst upper bowl seats in the dome though, and I know that better seats have a higher face value.
Likewise, face value for Monday is $60.
Tickets acquired through NCAA lottery.
|3 years 29 weeks ago||Yes||
Now that I think of it, when I logged in, there was an option for selling tickets that I did not explore. So maybe there is a safe way to exchange money built into Flash Seats. Like I said, my friend just sent me the tickets via that site and we are settling up later.... so maybe he had to indicate the sale price was $0 or something on his end. He initiated the transfer. You will have to create an account and register that account with a credit card, then that credit card is used to pick up tickets at the venue.
|3 years 29 weeks ago||Yep||
Flash Seats is how I got mine. Very legit. There's a way you can send your tickets to others via email. Not a great way for money to change hands though. I am paying my friend via check, not via flash seats. Flash seats seems to be a ticket management tool after the tickets are paid for.

If mgoblog was a retailer and the front page posts were its products, would this "product" be pulled from the shelves for not complying with the blog's core values / best practices. There is no humor or wit in the post. There is no deep statistical examination of data (the extant bullet points are misleading and don't tell the whole story). There is no brilliant prose capturing the visceral effects of a game we all watched.
This rant is of the same "quality" you can get at other blogs. This blog is better than other blogs. Come on Brian, stick to your bread and butter!
Side Note: Some people out there make a ton of money. Some even dictate their own salaries. That's just how it is.
Side Note 2: Lifetime economic benefits associated with a university education are undeniable (for everyone, not just athletes). One could argue that athletes have an additional leg up in the job market because an employer can reasonably assume candidates that are former college athletes are coachable and goal-oriented, work well in teams, and have the ability to commit to a cause.

|3 years 49 weeks ago||game theory disagree||
Fitz should be able to keep 75% of his big points earned from the 4th down, instead of giving half of them back on the punt. Rugby punt is still the incorrect choice, but saving the timeout is not the incorrect choice.
Taking the delay of game penalty backs NU out to the Mich 49 yardline. The NU long punt of the day was 53 yards and they already pinned Mich inside the 10 twice. Moving the ball back to the 49 from the 44 is OK if it means you save your last timeout. You've already blown several leads in B1G play this year, and you want that last timeout in case Michigan surprises you with a trick formation during the last 0:18.
I also think it was wise to NOT USE the timeout to ice the field goal kicker after the roundtree catch, because Michigan just had to scurry the length of the field to set up the 1st down spike and 2nd down FG. Icing the kicker just gives M a chance to catch their breath. (See 12-10 victory over MSU where The Threat has to be the FG holder moments after getting blasted, but Dantonio's timeout allows him to recover). Fitz also possibly knew that Gibbons can't be iced

The ND game I went to was the Sam McGuffie rain storm RichRod loss of 2008. The rain cut my postgame experience short, but pregame the ND fans were mostly friendly with a few people yelling BOO as you walk by. The thing that ND doesn't have is a city like Lincoln or Ann Arbor next to the campus with all kinds of food/drink/entertainment available.

Ironically, there were about ~30-40 Michigan students in my section staying enthusiastic the whole time and doing all the chants as if it were Michigan Stadium... and after Bellomy's third INT one of the Nebraska fans said "Aren't you guys happy we don't have a You Suck chant?"
