I really don't see the argument for Wisconsin jumping us even if they win on Saturday. Assuming that they do, their best win of the season will be that win over a three-loss PSU team. Wisconsin hasn't beaten anyone, and is getting WAY too much credit for good-looking losses to Michigan and OSU. Their resume doesn't compare to ours, they lost to us head-to-head, and the only reason they'll have won the conference championship is because they had the luxury of playing in the easier division.
|1 week 4 days ago||Root for Colorado and Penn||
Root for Colorado and Penn State. Wisconsin would jump Michigan.
From a resume-comparison perspective, isn't a Wisconsin win better for us? They'd have the same record, yes, but our overall resume would be better, plus we beat them head-to-head. Yes, they'll have a conference championship, but only because they played in a weaker division.
If Penn State wins, I think the committee will have a hard time putting OSU in but not PSU, given than PSU beat OSU.
Also, why would Wisconsin jump us when we already beat them and have the same record?

If Wisconsin wins this week, they'll be conference champion solely because they had the luxury of playing in the easier of the two conference divisions. Beyond that, there is no credible argument that they have a better resume than us, to say nothing of the fact that they lost to us head to head. Being wedded to the idea of conference champions having to go is silly.

In reality, without Curry, the Warriors wouldn't stand a chance against either San Antonio or OKC. (And I think a Curry-less team would struggle against a completely healthy Clippers team.) What the Warriors did when Curry went down was very impressive, but the Rockets were a team that was desperate for its season to be over. If the refs don't understand what "targeting" means, they should be calling penalties for it.
|1 year 7 weeks ago||MSU has still completely||
MSU has still completely dominated Michigan since Dantonio arrived.
Six of Dantonio's wins against Michigan have come against Michigan coaches named Rodriguez and Hoke. Congrats on dominating them. So did everyone else.
His seventh win came on arguably the flukiest play in college football history. I could not have any less respect for Dantonio's accomplishments against Michigan. He benefitted from taking over during the weakest stretch of UM's recent history. He is also a petty and hypocritical little man, and I am terribly excited about his comeuppance, which begins next year. I think Michigan State fans know that as well, which is why they're so desperate to thump their chests in front of any Michigan fans they can find. Just like little brothers do.

I legitimately have less respect for the program now than I did prior to their victory. Their constant need for validation is pathetic.

They CLEARLY care, which is why half of the comments from MSU fans I've read following the game are about how they deserve respect and this felt great after all the Harbaugh hype. (The other half: "that was no fluke!")
|1 year 7 weeks ago||Amazing||
So, that sucks. It sucks that happened. It sucks that the kind of trash program that would run all the way across the field to taunt the Michigan student section after being handed a gift gets to feel like they earned something this morning. They're planning on nicknaming it, as if they earned something. That is why Michigan State will always be Michigan State. That is why "little brother" stuck: because it is the truest thing ever said about the attitude of that program.
But I've seen worse. I've felt worse. I have a big ol' callus. It's clear the direction this is going, and it's not a loss to Rutgers. The juggalos will get theirs as soon as Harbaugh flips the QB matchup. That's the undercurrent of their relief. They're already celebrating like underdogs who fluked it out.
See you next year.
This is so fucking awesome. Thanks Brian.

Agreed. His perpetual victimhood is pathetic and the worse. It kills me that it's been validated the way it has been. Of his 7 wins, six came against Michigan coaches named Rodriguez and Hoke, and his seventh was the result of arguably the flukiest play in college football history. I don't expect him to be getting any more.

I think M has a strong showing regardless but would rather not give every team "lack of respect" billeting board material.
I mean, screw Sparty, Dantonio, and their unending need to act as if they're being persecuted at all times. They're still ranked the #4 team in the country despite a series of wholly-unimpressive wins over very mediocre teams. Trying to tiptoe around them because they'll turn any comment about them into an unforgivable slight is stupid.
Harbaugh knows the significance of this game, and the importance of re-establishing dominance against our in-state rival. He's not going to let Michigan come out flat, and unlike each of the other games in the past seven years, he's not going to MSU come in and punch his team in the mouth, regardless of Dantonio's ability to convince his team they they're being disrespected.
Here's hoping that after we roll MSU next week, Harbaugh gives Dantonio the same slap on the back he gave Jim Schwartz.

"okay Seth you have to drop Draft Kings as a sponsor now because ESPN took $40 million or whatever to let your sponsor eye-fuck everyone who consumes ESPN."
Dropping DraftKings as a sponsor is certainly not what I was suggesting (apologies if that was implied), and I don't want you to be unable to write for the blog as a living. Like I said, I love his blog, and you guys are great. Whatever it is you decide, I appreciate your thoughtful responses here.
|1 year 10 weeks ago||I can control what we put on||
I can control what we put on this site and how, but I think it'd be unfair for us to stop doing the thing we've been doing for four years because our sponsors got huge.
I've been a reader of this blog since the Haloscan days (Gnarls Woodson for the win!), and I certainly don't begrudge you guys from relying on advertisers to maintain your livelihood and to keep this blog great. (And in fact, this exchange has caused to me to make click the beveled guilt link and make a donation.) But I don't recall posts that look like actual content but that are, in fact, little more than a lengthy advertisement for one of your sponsors being a "thing [you've] been doing for four years." Was the first sentence of any post four years ago a link to a "daily fantasy game?"
I have no problem with Brian now starting the UFRs with a word from your sponsors. (Nor do I have any issues with banner ads on the page.) This feels very different. Most (though admittedly not all) posts on the blog have something to do with Michigan. This clearly doesn't, and does nothing but pimp DK's site. I'd have no issue with a banner or a notice on an actual post about Michigan stating that it was sponsored by DK, and that we should go check the site out. This clearly isn't that. Put another way, Brian would post the UFRs whether or not there was a sponsor for them. Would this post have been written but for the fact that DK is a sponsor?
Finally, the fact that DK "got huge" is relevant. Its commercials are obnoxious, they're everywhere, and that fact that DK is influencing content here prompts the same visceral reaction on this site as the commercials do everywhere else.
Love the blog, and Go Blue!
