Your point is well taken, but this legend isn't actually true. "adidas" is a combination of the letters from the name of its founder, Adi Dassler, after he split the company off from his brother. (The company is also German, so it would be highly unlikely that the name would have such a convenient English translation.) Dassler's brother took the other half of their joint company and founded Puma.

In reality, without Curry, the Warriors wouldn't stand a chance against either San Antonio or OKC. (And I think a Curry-less team would struggle against a completely healthy Clippers team.) What the Warriors did when Curry went down was very impressive, but the Rockets were a team that was desperate for its season to be over. The Blazers are a decent team, but nowhere near the caliber of the Spurs or the Thunder.

He benefitted from taking over during the weakest stretch of UM's recent history. He is also a petty and hypocritical little man, and I am terribly excited about his comeuppance, which begins next year. Harbaugh knows the significance of this game, and the importance of re-establishing dominance against our in-state rival. He's not going to let Michigan come out flat, and unlike each of the other games in the past seven years, he's not going to MSU come in and punch his team in the mouth, regardless of Dantonio's ability to convince his team they they're being disrespected.

|46 weeks 5 days ago||I can control what we put on||
I can control what we put on this site and how, but I think it'd be unfair for us to stop doing the thing we've been doing for four years because our sponsors got huge.
I've been a reader of this blog since the Haloscan days (Gnarls Woodson for the win!), and I certainly don't begrudge you guys from relying on advertisers to maintain your livelihood and to keep this blog great. (And in fact, this exchange has caused to me to make click the beveled guilt link and make a donation.) But I don't recall posts that look like actual content but that are, in fact, little more than a lengthy advertisement for one of your sponsors being a "thing [you've] been doing for four years." Was the first sentence of any post four years ago a link to a "daily fantasy game?"
I have no problem with Brian now starting the UFRs with a word from your sponsors. (Nor do I have any issues with banner ads on the page.) This feels very different. Most (though admittedly not all) posts on the blog have something to do with Michigan. This clearly doesn't, and does nothing but pimp DK's site. I'd have no issue with a banner or a notice on an actual post about Michigan stating that it was sponsored by DK, and that we should go check the site out. This clearly isn't that. Put another way, Brian would post the UFRs whether or not there was a sponsor for them. Would this post have been written but for the fact that DK is a sponsor?
Finally, the fact that DK "got huge" is relevant. Its commercials are obnoxious, they're everywhere, and that fact that DK is influencing content here prompts the same visceral reaction on this site as the commercials do everywhere else.
Love the blog, and Go Blue!

Is that merely concidence or does it give his offense an extra level of physicality that it doesn't have with a Leak or Miller?
What?. Meyer did win a title with Leak. You're acting like that season Tebow was the every-down guy and Leak was the change-of-pace QB. It was the other way around.
In any event, all of Meyer's teams have won as a result of a complete dominance in the trenches. OSU was no match for Florida's defensive line in 2006, and Oregon could do nothing against OSU's offensive line on Monday. Meyer would have won with a Denard-type at QB on either of those teams.

As seen by Miller's mauling by MSU it doesn't work quite as well(although still extremely successful) with a slender, less bruising QB.
Didn't Miller only lose two games total in his two years as QB of that offense? I'm not sure you can draw the conclusion you do based upon one game. Meyer's system works because it works.

Harbaugh had one good year at Stanford, and so did Hoke at Michigan.
If you honestly think that Harbaugh only had one "good year" at Stanford, after inheriting a program that went 1-11 the year before he arrived, or that his time at Stanford is in any way comparable to Hoke's time at Michigan, you should go ahead and stop watching college football. You're obviously not getting it.

|1 year 34 weeks ago||You're free to have any||
You're free to have any concerns you want about Harbaugh, but to the extent those concerns are based upon Hoke's history here, they are absurd. At every prior stop, Harbaugh has demonstrated he's a tremendous football coach (including, most importantly, in the NFL, where his tenure with the 49ers can only be characterized as a resounding success notwithstanding their record this year). Hoke's entire pre-Michigan body of work suggested he was, at best, a mediocre one, which he confirmed when given enough time. If Harbaugh trends towards his historical mean, as Hoke ultimately did, we'll be in great shape.

Hoke took a 7-6 team with the reigning Big Ten offensive player of the year and a offensive line chock-full of NFL players and went 11-2 with it, and then watched the program disintegrate around him over the next three years. So no, not remotely comparable to what Harbaugh did in his four years at Stanford.

RR's 2009 recruiting class was hamstrung by the bullshit FREEP allegations. 2010 was undone by the fact that his job was in question pretty much in question after the first month of the season. Had he gotten a clear vote of support from Brandon the way Hoke did last year, his recruiting would have been fine. The only class he was able to recruit without a cloud over his head - 2008 - was top 10.
|1 year 38 weeks ago||Thank you, now can we please||
Thank you, now can we please STOP pointing to Rodriguez' current success as evidence that we should have kept him?
No. We should have kept RR, which his current success confirms, but his prior success at WVU suggested at that time. Especially when the alternative to Rodriguez was Brady fricking Hoke. RR with a new defensive coordinator made infinitely more sense than any of the other options available to us at the time. Brandon blew it.
|1 year 38 weeks ago||A real leader overcomes the||
A real leader overcomes the "mountains of shit" and perseveres.
That's what RR did. His teams improved record-wise every year, and notwithstanding everything he had to deal with, he was able to build a team that, in what would have been his fourth year, was so talented that not even Brady Hoke could screw it up on the way to 11 wins and a Sugar Bowl victory (yes, Mike Martin, RVB, and David Molk were awesome, and were recruited by Lloyd Carr). Brady Hoke has had, from the outset, far more support than Rich Rod ever did, an extra year to recruit, no bullshit "NCAA allegations," and has built far far less.
It's okay to admit that firing Rich Rod in 2010 for anyone other than Jim Harbaugh was a collosal fuckup from which we still haven't recovered.
|1 year 38 weeks ago||I am beginning to believe||
I am beginning to believe those who hate RichRod have forgotten that he had a coaching career outside of 2008-2010. Now living on planet Earth and with access to both the internet and basic cable, let me explain another common theme of Rich Rodriguez: when he's not facing the mountain of shit he had to deal with at Michigan, his teams win a lot of games. That 2007 WVU team you reference won 10 games with him at the helm, and an 11th (a BCS bowl) after he left. (Yes, it suffered a disappointing defeat when its best player got injured.) His Arizona team just won 10 games, the best for that program since 1988, when they won 9. He's had success everywhere he went except for Michigan, but yes, please keep telling yourself that the problem was him, and not the program, notwithstanding the fact that Hoke received far more support than Rich Rod did, inherited a better team, and has still driven this program into the ground.
This season's performance, relative to expectations, is far more disappointing than 2008's.
|1 year 38 weeks ago||I don't think she was giving||
I don't think she was giving RR's teams "a break." I think her point was that the circumstances surrounding the two are relevant to a comparison of their overall records. And she's 100% correct. Hoke's failure's in year four are far worse than RR's in year 1, which serves as the basis for her conclusion.
|1 year 38 weeks ago||RR won more each year because||
RR won more each year because it's nearly impossible to not win more after winning 3 games in year 1.
While that's true, the weight of the evidence from both before and after his Michigan tenure confirms that RR's teams were also winning more games each year because he, unlike Hoke, is a competent football coach. What do you think Hoke's record would have been after three years if he'd faced the headwinds that RR did in 2008? Conversely, what do you think RR's first-year record would have been had he inherited a junior-year Denard and an offensive line chock-full of guys who'd go on to play in the NFL?
|1 year 38 weeks ago||If you honestly found||
If you honestly found anything Denard did on the football field (both good and bad) "pretty damn boring," you should probably go ahead and stop watching football.

As of Micihgan is the only University in the county that cares about its student athletes. If Michigan Men had understand that winning is difficult and not a birthrite, and it's alright for a football coach to curse, Rodriguez would still be a Michigan Man.

Yes, his first year was terrible. But so what? It was going to be terrible given the roster no matter who was the coach. And his teams were getting better, and the guys he recruited could actually play. We lucked out and hired an awesome coach, and then chose not to give enough time to do what we asked him to.
|1 year 38 weeks ago||Good thing we replaced him||
Good thing we replaced him with a coach who was exponentially worse! What do you think Rich Rod's record would have been if he'd started his first year with Denard Robinson at QB and 4 NFL-caliber offensive lineman, like Hoke did?
