Honestly, I'll be somewhat disapointed with fewer than 9 wins (with bowl) including an upset against OSU or MSU.
Sky's the limit on the upside. I think we have a ton of untapped talent that's ripe for a breakout. I don't think it's crazy to think Harbaugh could "shock everyone".

I feel detached in third person, like I'm controlling a puppet. Where I feel like first person actually puts me in the shoes of the character and is far more immersive for me. I'm also not a fan of the camera and sightline issues third person creates (mostly talking shooters now). I prefer first person for just about everything... Shooting, flying, driving, fighting.
I wish I could get into that type of play. Those games look amazing and I really enjoyed them both... For about an hour.

I agree with most of your post. I do think it's worth pointing out that even though the PS4/One aren't as cutting edge as some past consoles were at launch, they're still far more powerful than their predecessors. The 360 was 8 years old and the PS3 was 7 y/o when the PS4/One launched. I'm not sure if I agree with the ".5" comment with that in mind... Relative to say, the original Xbox to the 360 only being 4 years apart and the PS2 to PS3 being 6 years apart even with the PS2 being a sales monster... The leap from last gen to this one is still large.

Mayweather will dominate this fight (unless he's hit the wall since his last fight) and he would have won decisively years ago before the Pac losses (though back then I could have at least made some easy money betting on Floyd). My take is pretty much the same as if this fight was happening back when it would have been interesting...
When two elite fighters meet the edge always goes to the superior defensive fighter and technician. That's always been Floyd (arguably the best ever in that regard). I don't think people realize how much bigger Floyd is going to be in there either. Forget the stats... Just wait until they're in the ring. Pac will look strikingly smaller. Floyd made Mosley and Oscar look like they were fighting up a class or two. Those same guys made Pac look small and would have manhandled him in their primes.
FWIW I can't stand Floyd and I'd love to be wrong. But I think the smart money was on Floyd even before Pac's recent woes.

|1 year 38 weeks ago||"Good ones don't" Really? Do||
"Good ones don't"
Do I need to compile a list of all the great linemen who didn't play until they were RS SO (or later) and then we can have a theoretical argument about how good they would have been in year one or two?
Just because you can name a lot of exceptions doesn't mean they're not exceptions. You have a massive pool to draw from. I'm talking about a handful of players and 3 positions. See any problem with comparing those sample sizes? Any at all?
The guys we're talking about aren't even done with their first/second years! It may be too late to salvage anything from this season (aside from some potential moral victories and improving perceptions), but it's not out of the question things could still start clicking for them this year and we could see improvement. I see it with various squads, on various teams, at various points in the season, every year.
If you really think it's reasonable to write them off or make it out to be some systemic failure?... It's time to just agree to disagree. I personally think that's insanely pessimistic and/or shortsighted.
|1 year 38 weeks ago||My god...||
Let me make this really simple.
The vast majority of offensive linemen need years of development at the college level. Even highly rated recruits.
Naming a bunch who had success early doesn't change this fact. It's simply cherry picking. It doesn't prove there's a problem with coaching and/or recruiting.
It's a numbers game that thus far hasn't worked in our favor in a "better than expected" manner. Shit happens. In your own example the USC "blue chips" are the ones who aren't panning out and they got hits with two "lesser recruits" (to be honest I'm skimming at this point) no?
Luck of the draw man. Looks like we may have to be patient with those linemen who ALMOST ALWAYS NEED DEVELOPMENT. My god, the horror of it.
|1 year 38 weeks ago||I honestly don't even know||
I honestly don't even know what point you're trying to make anymore. Your last two posts (above and below this at the moment) are either way out in left field, or my ability to digest this stuff has reached it's limit. Coaches who had success early (below)? RRs 2010 team?...
I've been avoiding the forum/comments since Saturday evening... I think that was a wise choice.
|1 year 38 weeks ago||Yeah, you're right...||
Our highly rated O-line classes haven't blown up in their first and second years on campus. It's definitely time to panic.
Nevermind it's typically one of the last positions you ever want to play guys early and all that. The coaches clearly suck.
Besides, if things look great a year or two down the road who's gonna remember all this negativity anyway?
|1 year 38 weeks ago||Considered a long point by point reply...||
But it's just not worth it.
Yes, you're still cherry picking. Now you're picking out star players from various teams who had early success? Or teams that have had success with arguably (I'd put this in italics for emphasis if I knew how to format) similar youth in various positions? This proves what? That youth doesn't matter?
That's the epitome of cherry picking. You're throwing out random exceptions when an even moderately large sample size would demonstrate just the opposite. If I had the time/desire I'd look into dominant teams (or O-lines even) over the last decade or so to see how experience correlates to success... Wanna take a wild guess on how that'd look? I know where my money would be.

Hoke & co have their first real class in the middle of their second year and they're transitioning from a completely different system/style. That's not "clouding the issue"... It's stating the obvious.

I was actually browsing a couple places trying to decide where to pre order a PS4 yesterday when the news broke. Glad I didn't... I'm happy to able to stick with the Xbox.
|2 years 7 weeks ago||Having not read the books yet...||
I'm glad to hear they're not following them too closely. I plan to wait until the show is over before I start the books (hopefully they'll be done by then as well) and I'd like it to be a new experience to some degree.

You either haven't watched it or you're not very bright.
|2 years 8 weeks ago||I haven't read the books (yet)...||
The complaints here are completely lost on me. One of the things that makes the show so great is that it can elicit such an emotional response. It's not simply "shock value" when it makes so much sense. I suspected there would be repercussions and the whole wedding made me nervous. Not that I seen THAT coming, but I had a nagging feeling of dread from the time they had arrived.
After having a day to digest things... I feel it would have been "cheap" for things not to happen the way they did.
I think some people would be better off watching The Avengers again... Or basically every other movie/TV show where the good guy wins/gets the girl and there's always a happy ending. I personally think GOT is the best show I've ever seen and last night only reinforced that for me.

If your performance isn't up to par in class or on the field you suffer the consequences. If you're not directly harming others and you're able to handle your responsibilities, you shouldn't have your life messed with based on other people's ideas of morality or assumptions about what you may not be able to handle.

If they can't, their grades suffer and they don't get PT? Rather than making assumptions based on generalizations and stereotypes we could base these decisions on... Oh, I don't know... Actual performance?
He broke the rules he agreed to and he suffers the consequences for breaking them. I don't have a problem with it so far as that goes. But that doesn't apply to the asinine laws or all of these silly justifications and mental gymnastics for why it should be a rule in the first place.

Yeah, I don't remember the specific scene where the king's mom gives the order (forget her name). But I'm pretty sure there was one because I wasn't surprised when it happened. I do remember the conversation in the final episode of season two.

I think that could take a big swing by mid-season with as backloaded as the schedule is. If they handle ND and he has a good game, I'd say to look for him in the top 3s/5s on a lot of Heisman lists. Whether he can bring it home in the second half of the season is a whole different animal.

I apologize if I'm not being clear (I'm trying).
I'm not saying that geography SHOULD (sorry, don't know how to format for italics) be an issue. I'm saying that it's a deal killer for the inner/outer model even if only as a misguided matter of perception ("right or wrong" etc).
|2 years 23 weeks ago||The two of you apparently||
The two of you apparently missed the "right or wrong" and "not arguing it's merits" bits? All I know is my first thought was "not a chance". Then I seen how popular the idea was and read all of the arguments about why it was such a good idea and my only thought was 'not a chance". Call it coincidence if you like, but it looks like it won't be happening and this is my unsurprised face.

It never had a chance because of the geography and I'm a little surprised that wasn't clear to everyone from the first time it was mentioned.

|2 years 35 weeks ago||You guys are crazy if you||
You guys are crazy if you think the jury is in on a Soph RB who had the blocking Rawles did this year. Could it be that Fitz also suffered greatly/primarily because of the same?... Wild stuff I know.
My money says that even if we get a big time RB in this class that they'll redshirt next year or at the very least be 2nd or 3rd on the depth chart.
BTW- Yeah, I seen Rawles run through some guys this year. I also seen Fitz make some nice moves and do some hard running. Only to lead to them consistently getting swallowed up anyway. I hate to bash the O line any more than they've already got... But I have a hard time being too negative on our RBs considering what they were tasked with this year. I'm certainly not writing anyone off this early in their careers.
|2 years 35 weeks ago||Yeah, that's what I was||
Yeah, that's what I was trying to get across in a tongue in cheek way. I guess it didn't come through as intended.
The point is...
I'm sure you can make good arguments either way for what may be "best" for Lewan. If the "most significant" piece of evidence that he's going pro is that Hoke "wants what's best for him"... I find it to be a stretch of an assumption to take that as a sign he's going pro. My guess (if I were to) is that Hoke would take the other perspective.
I think most players in his shoes would go pro and that's the only reason I can see to be pessimistic about the chances of him returning (that and the typical defense mechanism/CYA pessimism so common around here). None of the quotes provided give a clue to his leanings as far as I can tell.

The Nebraska game wasn't exactly a blowout for Ohio until late in that game. I don't recall all of the specifics, but it was a shootout and a one score game until late in the 3rd quarter IIRC. Sometime after that (and Burkhead getting hurt) Nebraska's offense seemed to stall and Ohio pulled away from them.
I thought the Penn St and Wiscy games were more impressive wins.
... They also squeaked by Indiana and Cal FWIW.

K St hasn't squeaked by 3 or 4 teams with losing records (the closest is a 6 pt win over a .500 Iowa St) or gotten several gifts from the refs to steal games against mediocre to decent teams.
