Not as bad as it seemed. On a couple of PSU runs, they got neither open looks at the rim nor from the 3pt line, but managed to just hit every single 2pt jumper and floater from about 7 feet out. You can't prevent EVERY shot, and most of the time, a team isn't going to shoot 52% on those opportunities like PSU did, more like 40-45, which would've made this a 20-30 pt blowout, instead of 13 pt very very solid win.
There were a number of posessions the D strung out till the very end of the clock. I thought they were definitely improved. Not great, but definitely better.
And the offense... when they get moving, wow...

The key, as I see it, is that if you map out Nuss' career, you see progression nearly every year, and no BAD offenses. With Borges, you had some truly great years, but they were interspersed with regressing years, and with truly bad years. The argument was that the "bad" years weren't really his fault, being hamstrung by the coach. But now we know that's not true. Brady won't touch the offense.

Here's what I saw on a review of the thread:
You all need to take a freaking breather, folks. Seriously, 2014 is over. Step back from the ledge. Here's the truth of the matter.
1: Fouls were almost even for and against, 17 to 18. That's almost exactly par for the season.
2: In his first Big Ten game, our FRESHMAN PG had a 4 to 1 Assist to TO ratio, pulled down more rebounds than anyone save our C, shot poorly but did anything but hog the ball, and hit 66% on FT's, his only two misses coming in big time pressure. He also had a lights out steal.
3: The Morgan/Horford 2 headed monster was never supposed to play this kind of minutes, so excuse me if I think a 7-for-10, 3-6 FT, 11 Rebound, 2 Steal, 1 Block, 17 point combined performance isn't too shabby for what approximates a single player. I find it hard to believe McGary's overall numbers would've been that much better.
4. Seriously, people? You're going to criticize Stauskus? The guy, who, should he get hurt, you can pretty much wrap the season up and toss it in the trash? He does everything but make breakfast. If he has the occasional miss on an open look a FT or makes a bad foul, well, who would you RATHER have in there?
5: Beilein, the coach who took Zak Novak and Stu Douglass & gang to the NCAA Tourney, who schemed out a way for a bunch of midgets to beat a bunch of California Redwoods, and he doesn't learn?
6: At least get your criticisms straight. In one game, every guy on he team was both awesome and horrible at everything!

|10 weeks 6 days ago||It was bad||
And looking at the box score, I still can't figure out how we won, except that Stauskas had ice-water at the line, and Irvin could finally shoot. Heck, he was about the only one that could.
I WAS surprised to see that spike only had 5 points and 2 assists. It seemed like he did a lot more. I guess a three from the parking lot will do that.
|11 weeks 4 hours ago||Thanks all!||
I don't trust BA's reviews more than simply identifying if a particular beer is BAD. So long as it doesn't rate below a 2.5, I presume it's palatable and I consider it. For instance, Arcadia's Whitsun is one of my favorites, but it only ranks about a 3.5 there.
We usually have 25 or more people for our dinner, so asking for a sample, trying it, and then deciding to order one usually means I'll get my beer just in time for my entree to arrive. Plus I'm not sure if it's tap or bottles.

Now, imagine for a moment that you've got a team that can execute like that, but flops around like a pack of slovenly idiots on normal offensive plays. I think the blame there falls squarely on the guy responsible for coordinating these well trained athletes into a capable pack.
In conclusion: FIRE BORGES!

|18 weeks 20 hours ago||For the record||
I was there, and these are the things I can report:
Lohan will be out a couple of weeks at least. He left for the locker room shortly after going off the ice. He was keeping all of his weight off of his right leg, AND seemed to be favoring his right shoulder a lot. He's not just hurt. He is injured. two teamates had to help him off the ice.
Hyman SHOULD be injured, but is evidently fine. He got nailed by a tech player a few inches bigger htan him right on the corner of the boards at the north end ofthe Michigan bench. If the padding weren't on that coner, he'd have spit his face open. Nasty.
Red made a TON of line changes. I was questioning it, becauseit seemed we had trouble getting anything going offensively with all the changes, but it paid off in OT big time.
Tech is way more talented and skilled than their record indicates. HOWEVA, they didn't do much creation. Their shots came on effort plays to get breakaways or catch a puck in front of the net. They rarely got into an offensive set.
Clare should get some freedom to come up more on O. He won several foot races for pucks or to get into a defensive position, and definitely has speed.
Racine is a little rusty if his pregame practice means anything, but his glove is lightning and he's still your starter when he shakes off the rust.
|18 weeks 4 days ago||S'keepers||
Definitely has a Plague, but not just out front.
|18 weeks 6 days ago||There you go||
You actually answered my question! Thanks!
So one year for player development, and no specific cut off date for that development to take off, so long as the development is evident SOMEWHERE in production.
|18 weeks 6 days ago||Hmmm...||
I can't argue with that one.
|18 weeks 6 days ago||That's kind of the point||
Although I'm not nearly so negative on him (he single handedly won as many games as he single handedly lost), you just said exactly what I said. He was too good to take off the field (plus we had no other options), but because of the way he was built, as a QB, our offense had to be the DENARD OFFENSE. It takes time to make a paradigm shift from the DENARD OFFENSE to something else. How long?
|18 weeks 6 days ago||Yeah||
I think we all agree they tried it about a game and a half too long. But that makes more sense than assuming our coaches are idiots that have been running the wrong offense all season.
|18 weeks 6 days ago||Okay||
That's fair. However, I'm not sure I would agree that taking over mid-season for a player that everyone expected to come back within a week or two (initially. Remember, nobody thought he'd be out through the end of the year.) counts as much, because I don't think they spent much time adapting the offense. They had fewer QB runs, but overall, they still ran it like it was Denard's offense, under the assumption that he was coming back.
Remember, I'm not talking about Gardner improving (which he has, albeit in fits and starts). I'm talking about finding the right formations and playcalls to get the most out of the players you have now.
|18 weeks 6 days ago||And...||
How long does it take to figue out how to best compliment players? How long does it take to figure out what offensive style will be the best for a team for the season. I mean, you can score an instant touchdown with a good hook and ladder. Should a team make that their base play?
|18 weeks 6 days ago||I actually agree||
But since Denard left, do you think it makes sense to give more traditional, I-Form power running an honest go? And since we haven't done it in years, do you think an honest go is half a game, or half a season, or what?
|18 weeks 6 days ago||Let me play parrot||
I'm just going to say the same things everyone else has said in this thread, but here it is:
If you think that the rush (biggest point of contention last season) hasn't improved this season, look at the numbers.
If you think the offense is worse this season than last season, look at the numbers.
If you think this TEAM is worse this season than last season, look at the numbers.
If you think that some of the game plans, especially offensive, have been questionable, you're entitled to that. The sure are infuriating sometimes.
If you think that some close wins against obviously inferior teams and a reak type loss in Happy Valley are a HUGE PROBLEM, look at the entire history of college football.
If you thinki bitching and moaning because your favorite team is 6-1 in a way that displeases you makes you look cool, look at yourself.
I swear to god, half the fanbase is like Minny fans when Glen Mason was coach. "Sure, we're winning, but not how I WANT us to win! GRRR!!! I AM ANGAR!!!"
Truly, why are you on this site if you aren't looking at the numbers? There are other sites where you can bitch and moan about things you don't understand. Here, our generous authors are numbers acolytes. It is what they believe and know. It's what we readers believe and know. They don't lie.
|19 weeks 1 day ago||It's rarely luck||
RPS is a way of controlling player point values.
If a D has been blitzing all day, you don't wanna give a reciever +3 every time a screen goes for 30 yards.An RPS call in this case demonstrates that the O Coordinator recognized that a blitz was likely and called the appropriate play to make them pay for their blitzing.
Occasoinally, especially early, an RPS can be luck if a team is doing something they haven't shown a lot of in the past. If a team enters a game playing a very soft D that they've not run before, kind of like our ND defense was, the O coordinator might get a "luck" RPS for an early short field throw. However, as the D keeps doing that, more and more of those plays can be attributed to the coordinator putting the offense in the right position to take advantage.
|19 weeks 1 day ago||Yeah||
That sounds like a herniated disk or something. Those things never quite go away. Hopefully, it's muscle spasms or something instead.
|19 weeks 1 day ago||Rock Paper Scissors||
An RPS +1 Means a play was just the right call by the O or D coordinator to take advantage of the opposing team's O or D. A +2 or +3 means they did that really well.
An RPS -1 -2 or -3 means M's coaches made a terrible play call that was just what the opposing coordinator wanted them to do.

The next person to suggest that fans of a team shouldn't own/wear team jersies is getting smacked upside the head.
|21 weeks 2 days ago||Good deal Timmy!||
Seems like good starts for THJ and Trey (Trey especially considering his Summer League issues). Good to see Sims finally getting some NBA run as well.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||Eh...||
Lose the attendance record because a game is played in a place that's not even a sports arena? Fine, whatever.
Secondly, this is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. You won't even be able to see any of the players!
|21 weeks 3 days ago||No choice||
It's interesting you would say that. I never said or implied that we NEEDED another presence at RB. Just that it would be interesting to see and I hated wasting his athleticism. When you say "no choice", it sounds like you're very dissatisfied with the talent we have at RB now. If you really are dissatisfied with it, why would you not want to try other bodies there?
|21 weeks 3 days ago||Bah!||
|21 weeks 3 days ago||Oh yes||
DB is his position, for sure. But with his RS burned, it just seems sad to leave that athleticism off the field.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||Specifically||
I didn't recommend that it SHOULD happen. Simply asking what people thought. It probably would be a bad idea. At the same time, I dare you, DARE you to watch Jibreel Peppers highlights and not have "Instant Charles Woodson" flash in your brain. And he's a long way till he's even a freshman yet.
I would think you would know me well enough to know that I'm not screaming, "STAHR RANKERNS! PURT HIRM IN THUR GERM!"
|21 weeks 3 days ago||He does?||
I don't think two TERRIBLY SURPRISING REVERSES per game really qualify as a few carries.
|21 weeks 6 days ago||You just know||
If it was a 55-3 win, they'd all say, "Well, Minny sucks hard, so that doesn't prove anything." Iowa's play against MSU today shows that they're a damn good (for Iowa) team, and Minny was 4-1 with some solid wins. This was an EXCELLENT 29 point win.
Georgia just needed OT to beat Tennessee! Georgia is #6 and Tennessee sucks worse than Minny by far.
|21 weeks 6 days ago||There you go||
8 Posessions - 5 TD's. Fantastic.
13 of 17 passes were at least catchable. 14, really. That one was over Dileo's head, but he had two hands on it. Your WR's need to make plays. QB's are rearely going to be dead on for every throw.
When we weren't running into a stacked box, we got penetration and holes to run through.
Remove the sack, the bad snap fumble and the rushes from the 4th quarter clock kill drive starting at 7 minutes, and suddenly we rushed for 4.6 YPC. I'll take it up down left and right.

I try to try as many craft beers as I can, and I really enjoy most of them. But if you have the following beers, you have everything you ever need:
Goose Island 312
Bell's Two Hearted
That's it. Drink and be merry.
|22 weeks 3 days ago||I wonder||
Have we had a QB since that could see and make that little toss at the :55 second mark? Of course, Devin would just run for it (correctly). The caverns that were opening up in the middle on pass plays were hilarious.
Also, not this game, of course, I can't think about Navarre vs. Minny without thinking about the Transcontinental in 2003. Best Transcontinental ever.
|23 weeks 1 day ago||Correct||
But many people have a problem with that, because they view it as a sort of servitude. Students sign an agreement to plaqy a sport in return for their scholarship that the university CLAIMS as a certian value, but in actuallity costs them much less than that. Most people feel that the athletes should be earning something more presently tangible, and that's what this would fix without making them actual pros.
If they're smart, they'll use it to pay their tuition and it will work out exactly the same. If, however, they choose to do otherwise, they would be able to. (Not to mention this would encourage talent to stay closer to home, thereby leveling the playing field, because now, in-state tuition discounts would come into play.)
|23 weeks 2 days ago||Many will be sad||
And yet, this is the way it should be. Things like this game should never have existed. Then we wouldn't be in the current crap house we're in.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||Why not?||
Three is easy. They're working under the coaching staff, and they're not displacing anybody.
Four is harder, but colleges have been trying to convince us for years that they don't get an advantage from the sports. What's new about that?
As for six, I know we had paid interns, so I'm not sure what's up with that.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||Maybe not now||
But in Ep1, he tried to shoot himself after gassing Emilio and Krazy-8. Safety was on, but he pulled the trigger. It shows that when he can't come to terms with all the bad he's done, that's his way out.
I think Jesse is simply going to find Walt lying dead in bed one morning from the lung cancer, and everyone is going to go "WTF!?! SEINFELD!"
|23 weeks 2 days ago||My SID Internship||
It was year long. In my case, unpaid, but I got credits for it. Upper classmen had the same internship, but instead of credits, they got paid (I think minimum, but it was a pretty easy internship).
|23 weeks 2 days ago||That's just it||
The value of the scholarship already affects where students go to school. Why should intern pay be any different. You have employees, you're entitled to pay them what you want. If they don't wantto work for that money, they can go somewhere else.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||It is similar||
It is only intended to fix a few things.
1 - Remove the sham of "amatureism" without making them pros.
2 - Remove any shred of legitimacy to the small schools' whining about the costs of paying players. Nobody can tell anyone else what it's okay to pay employees.
3 - basically tell the NCAA to go screw itself. These students aren't amature athletes. They are student-employees in a student-study program. I mean, I worked for the athletic department as a Sports Information intern in school. Nobody said I was less a student at the school.
|23 weeks 3 days ago||Indeed||
People, this isn't hard. If you want to argue about something on the internet, fine, do it (just not here). But if you EVER think that trolling sounds like a good idea, you need to step away and take a few deep breaths.
|23 weeks 3 days ago||Prayers for everyone involved||

For the team in their uncertianty.
For the criminal, that his heart might soften.

He is either a zombie or an extra from Planet of the Apes. I mean in real life.
|24 weeks 6 days ago||Geeze||
We know the team is unhappy. We know they're better than they looked today, but not as good as we all would hope. Beyond that, we don't know anyting. But still, lets have a hundred and fifty post thread about it!
|25 weeks 1 day ago||Frank Clark||
Alright, so, he's been decent, but NOT living up to the hype to date. I agree there. But now you've got a 278 lb DE with incredible athletic ability... Someone taking snaps for Akron is going to be made of bruises Sunday.
|25 weeks 1 day ago||LSUFreek||
He's not a man. He's like a piece of iron.
|25 weeks 3 days ago||Right...||
But now add drunken Juggalos to the equation.
|25 weeks 4 days ago||"Well, son...||
You're gonna be handling single-teams on Hand tonight. We have faith in you, you know."
"No, Coach, you just hate me, don't you."
"Well, yeah, but I didn't want to say it in front of the team."
|25 weeks 4 days ago||Holy||
Schnitt! That's terrifying.

May they remember him with an elite performance in each game.

Play this while watching.
|25 weeks 5 days ago||Guys||
I know EXACTLY how this happened.
At a press conference:
"Coach Brown, some fans have started asking, 'Could the defense possibly be any worse?'"
"You know son, that's a good question. I wonder... *Mack Brown begins rubbing his chin in speculation.*"
|25 weeks 6 days ago||Looks like||
He maybe tweaked a hamstring. At first, I thought it was his back, but then he wouldn't be back in. Probably be sore and stiff this week. He might do well from a week off against Akron (speculation only, here).
|25 weeks 6 days ago||It is||
It is a thing of beauty, isn't it. Gallon going all "Nike Football Commercial" with his highlight cuts there, and Chesson just blowing them up BOOM! Dude never needs to make a catch to be a favorite as long as he keeps doing that.
|25 weeks 6 days ago||Cam||
Cam Gordon laid a couple of big licks tonight, but they were at the end of plays, rather than at the LOS or in the backfield. He was dropping rather than charging. Mattison really showed a LOT of respect for Rees arm tonight, to the point that it opened things up big time for the ND Rush game.
|25 weeks 6 days ago||Something like this, but happier:||

The members of this blog should be put to work in diamond mines. Not as an insult, mind you, but because they're just so good at unearthing gemstones!

Check out the whole stadium because there's lots of great signage and what not. BUT, eat and drink before you go, because that stuff is EXPENSIVe in there. Once the game begins, he should WATCH the game.
Apart from that, anything is good. May I recommend pre-game giant german beers at Metzger's? A one liter stein of Warsteiner light is just the thing.
|27 weeks 1 day ago||This just proves||
The giant noodle will cause problems. I mean, seriously, is there a better stoner magnet than giant mac & cheese?
|27 weeks 1 day ago||Well||
I contacted Kraft to bitch about it. They won't care, but I feel better.
|27 weeks 1 day ago||Seriously||
Dear Kraft -
Neither I, nor my extended family, will buy ANY Kraft products (or Kraft family brand products) until this noodle is gone. I'm not even kidding.

|27 weeks 5 days ago||I was extremely excited about Stribling||
I just recall that shortly after his offer and commitment, it seemed like he blew up. The sort of guy Beilein would get for the BBall team.I figured I was probably putting more stock into my expectations than I should, but after seeing the video and hearing the practice reports, I'm thinking they got in on a 4 star kid when he was a 2 star.

In non seriousness:
|28 weeks 6 days ago||Redshift||
I wouldn't mind it if Green were running away from everyone so fast that he was redshifted.
|28 weeks 6 days ago||Indeed||
And it's not like there were NO HOLES at all.
|28 weeks 6 days ago||Dude...||
PRACTICE jerseys. Chill.
|28 weeks 6 days ago||Hmm...||
I will offer my take, which, as a critically uninformed and over excitable fan, is clearly absolutely essential reading.
Pass Blocking may be pretty good, or Pass Rush may have great potential but be spotty.
Run Blocking may need some work yet while showing flashes. I don't think there's anything wrong with the D-Line's run defense.
Gardner can flat out throw that ball.
Saw good things from all over the recieving corp.
Fitz looked great running and did some nice pass-pro.
Fitz is probably definitely our #1 back. (Really strong statement, isn't it? Probably definitely.)
Cam Gordon could have a very nice year.
Hayes will see increased playing time this year.
|28 weeks 6 days ago||It's not possible to know that anyway||
The only way to tell is to look ahead to November 16th and see if the Wildcat in the box is alive or dead.
|28 weeks 6 days ago||Two||
Both time,s he hit a wall. He can power over LB's, but not 300 lbs DT's.
|28 weeks 6 days ago||I did too. That's not right.||
Sigh... so sad. But at least he died doing something he loved. If we let fear rule what we did, life would be depressing.
|28 weeks 6 days ago||But||
Without that quality down-home racism that made Ty a fan favorite. Yeesh. Guy was a great baseball player, but... not a good human being.
|29 weeks 4 hours ago||Magnus||
Used to say that he didn't think Wormley was as high a level prospect. However, as I recall, we determined that had something to do with Wormley being injured as a senior in HS.
|29 weeks 4 hours ago||Too bad it's not Toledo||
When OSU led off against Toledo, they almost bought it. There are a few MAC teams that could pull it off. Toledo, NIU, maybe Ohio or WMU. Other than that, nope.

He'll probably start at G this year, but just to season him. His future is probably at LT, with Magnuson at RT (They may flip for non LH QB's).

But I had a couple of things I noted:
1: Loved the hig by Rawls, then on his other runs he kept trying to go around and I kept going, "NO! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?" I fear he will never develop. The wood laying power is there, but he seems afraid to use it. You're not a homerun threat! You are a battering ram!
2. I wish Gunderson had developed skill wise. Just massive.
|29 weeks 5 days ago||Wait...||
Really, after everything else in this thread? Still? Wow.
|30 weeks 2 days ago||Nah||
They were spending the day practicing out in front of the frat houses. He landed on the BOX house.
