Getting that FG just shows me that Hoke is getting it done. Poorly coached teams don't execute like that.
Now, imagine for a moment that you've got a team that can execute like that, but flops around like a pack of slovenly idiots on normal offensive plays. I think the blame there falls squarely on the guy responsible for coordinating these well trained athletes into a capable pack.
In conclusion: FIRE BORGES!
|3 weeks 2 days ago||You guys I just thought of something...||
Holy crap... what happens when we get this guy back?
At that point, do we go from Balls to full fledged big boy testes?

What?! Are you serious?!? Man... :(
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Seriously?||
STst player with the floor slap. LOL.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Observations||
Horford is really improved.
Morgan may have regressed. Or maybe not regressed, but it kinda looks like Michigan's game is just a little too athletic for him now. He seems to be running hard just to keep up.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||I know you're kidding||
But seriously, SCst has been pretty good from very deep. They'd be minus 9-12 most nights.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Hot damn...||

If Stauskas and LeVert shoot the lights out, we should have an easy season? I never would've guessed it.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||For the record||
I was there, and these are the things I can report:
Lohan will be out a couple of weeks at least. He left for the locker room shortly after going off the ice. He was keeping all of his weight off of his right leg, AND seemed to be favoring his right shoulder a lot. He's not just hurt. He is injured. two teamates had to help him off the ice.
Hyman SHOULD be injured, but is evidently fine. He got nailed by a tech player a few inches bigger htan him right on the corner of the boards at the north end ofthe Michigan bench. If the padding weren't on that coner, he'd have spit his face open. Nasty.
Red made a TON of line changes. I was questioning it, becauseit seemed we had trouble getting anything going offensively with all the changes, but it paid off in OT big time.
Tech is way more talented and skilled than their record indicates. HOWEVA, they didn't do much creation. Their shots came on effort plays to get breakaways or catch a puck in front of the net. They rarely got into an offensive set.
Clare should get some freedom to come up more on O. He won several foot races for pucks or to get into a defensive position, and definitely has speed.
Racine is a little rusty if his pregame practice means anything, but his glove is lightning and he's still your starter when he shakes off the rust.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||S'keepers||
Definitely has a Plague, but not just out front.
|5 weeks 5 days ago||There you go||
You actually answered my question! Thanks!
So one year for player development, and no specific cut off date for that development to take off, so long as the development is evident SOMEWHERE in production.
|5 weeks 5 days ago||Hmmm...||
I can't argue with that one.
|5 weeks 5 days ago||That's kind of the point||
Although I'm not nearly so negative on him (he single handedly won as many games as he single handedly lost), you just said exactly what I said. He was too good to take off the field (plus we had no other options), but because of the way he was built, as a QB, our offense had to be the DENARD OFFENSE. It takes time to make a paradigm shift from the DENARD OFFENSE to something else. How long?
|5 weeks 5 days ago||Yeah||
I think we all agree they tried it about a game and a half too long. But that makes more sense than assuming our coaches are idiots that have been running the wrong offense all season.
|5 weeks 5 days ago||Okay||
That's fair. However, I'm not sure I would agree that taking over mid-season for a player that everyone expected to come back within a week or two (initially. Remember, nobody thought he'd be out through the end of the year.) counts as much, because I don't think they spent much time adapting the offense. They had fewer QB runs, but overall, they still ran it like it was Denard's offense, under the assumption that he was coming back.
Remember, I'm not talking about Gardner improving (which he has, albeit in fits and starts). I'm talking about finding the right formations and playcalls to get the most out of the players you have now.
|5 weeks 5 days ago||And...||
How long does it take to figue out how to best compliment players? How long does it take to figure out what offensive style will be the best for a team for the season. I mean, you can score an instant touchdown with a good hook and ladder. Should a team make that their base play?
|5 weeks 5 days ago||I actually agree||
But since Denard left, do you think it makes sense to give more traditional, I-Form power running an honest go? And since we haven't done it in years, do you think an honest go is half a game, or half a season, or what?
|5 weeks 5 days ago||Let me play parrot||
I'm just going to say the same things everyone else has said in this thread, but here it is:
If you think that the rush (biggest point of contention last season) hasn't improved this season, look at the numbers.
If you think the offense is worse this season than last season, look at the numbers.
If you think this TEAM is worse this season than last season, look at the numbers.
If you think that some of the game plans, especially offensive, have been questionable, you're entitled to that. The sure are infuriating sometimes.
If you think that some close wins against obviously inferior teams and a reak type loss in Happy Valley are a HUGE PROBLEM, look at the entire history of college football.
If you thinki bitching and moaning because your favorite team is 6-1 in a way that displeases you makes you look cool, look at yourself.
I swear to god, half the fanbase is like Minny fans when Glen Mason was coach. "Sure, we're winning, but not how I WANT us to win! GRRR!!! I AM ANGAR!!!"
Truly, why are you on this site if you aren't looking at the numbers? There are other sites where you can bitch and moan about things you don't understand. Here, our generous authors are numbers acolytes. It is what they believe and know. It's what we readers believe and know. They don't lie.
|5 weeks 6 days ago||It's rarely luck||
RPS is a way of controlling player point values.
If a D has been blitzing all day, you don't wanna give a reciever +3 every time a screen goes for 30 yards.An RPS call in this case demonstrates that the O Coordinator recognized that a blitz was likely and called the appropriate play to make them pay for their blitzing.
Occasoinally, especially early, an RPS can be luck if a team is doing something they haven't shown a lot of in the past. If a team enters a game playing a very soft D that they've not run before, kind of like our ND defense was, the O coordinator might get a "luck" RPS for an early short field throw. However, as the D keeps doing that, more and more of those plays can be attributed to the coordinator putting the offense in the right position to take advantage.
|5 weeks 6 days ago||Yeah||
That sounds like a herniated disk or something. Those things never quite go away. Hopefully, it's muscle spasms or something instead.
|5 weeks 6 days ago||Rock Paper Scissors||
An RPS +1 Means a play was just the right call by the O or D coordinator to take advantage of the opposing team's O or D. A +2 or +3 means they did that really well.
An RPS -1 -2 or -3 means M's coaches made a terrible play call that was just what the opposing coordinator wanted them to do.

|8 weeks 1 day ago||Eh...||
Lose the attendance record because a game is played in a place that's not even a sports arena? Fine, whatever.
Secondly, this is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. You won't even be able to see any of the players!
|8 weeks 1 day ago||No choice||
It's interesting you would say that. I never said or implied that we NEEDED another presence at RB. Just that it would be interesting to see and I hated wasting his athleticism. When you say "no choice", it sounds like you're very dissatisfied with the talent we have at RB now. If you really are dissatisfied with it, why would you not want to try other bodies there?
|8 weeks 2 days ago||Bah!||
|8 weeks 2 days ago||Oh yes||
DB is his position, for sure. But with his RS burned, it just seems sad to leave that athleticism off the field.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||Specifically||
I didn't recommend that it SHOULD happen. Simply asking what people thought. It probably would be a bad idea. At the same time, I dare you, DARE you to watch Jibreel Peppers highlights and not have "Instant Charles Woodson" flash in your brain. And he's a long way till he's even a freshman yet.
I would think you would know me well enough to know that I'm not screaming, "STAHR RANKERNS! PURT HIRM IN THUR GERM!"
|8 weeks 2 days ago||He does?||
I don't think two TERRIBLY SURPRISING REVERSES per game really qualify as a few carries.
|8 weeks 5 days ago||You just know||
If it was a 55-3 win, they'd all say, "Well, Minny sucks hard, so that doesn't prove anything." Iowa's play against MSU today shows that they're a damn good (for Iowa) team, and Minny was 4-1 with some solid wins. This was an EXCELLENT 29 point win.
Georgia just needed OT to beat Tennessee! Georgia is #6 and Tennessee sucks worse than Minny by far.
|8 weeks 5 days ago||There you go||
8 Posessions - 5 TD's. Fantastic.
13 of 17 passes were at least catchable. 14, really. That one was over Dileo's head, but he had two hands on it. Your WR's need to make plays. QB's are rearely going to be dead on for every throw.
When we weren't running into a stacked box, we got penetration and holes to run through.
Remove the sack, the bad snap fumble and the rushes from the 4th quarter clock kill drive starting at 7 minutes, and suddenly we rushed for 4.6 YPC. I'll take it up down left and right.

I try to try as many craft beers as I can, and I really enjoy most of them. But if you have the following beers, you have everything you ever need:

|9 weeks 2 days ago||I wonder||
Have we had a QB since that could see and make that little toss at the :55 second mark? Of course, Devin would just run for it (correctly). The caverns that were opening up in the middle on pass plays were hilarious.
Also, not this game, of course, I can't think about Navarre vs. Minny without thinking about the Transcontinental in 2003. Best Transcontinental ever.
|10 weeks 17 hours ago||Correct||
But many people have a problem with that, because they view it as a sort of servitude. Students sign an agreement to plaqy a sport in return for their scholarship that the university CLAIMS as a certian value, but in actuallity costs them much less than that. Most people feel that the athletes should be earning something more presently tangible, and that's what this would fix without making them actual pros.
If they're smart, they'll use it to pay their tuition and it will work out exactly the same. If, however, they choose to do otherwise, they would be able to. (Not to mention this would encourage talent to stay closer to home, thereby leveling the playing field, because now, in-state tuition discounts would come into play.)
|10 weeks 1 day ago||Many will be sad||
And yet, this is the way it should be. Things like this game should never have existed. Then we wouldn't be in the current crap house we're in.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||Why not?||
Three is easy. They're working under the coaching staff, and they're not displacing anybody.
Four is harder, but colleges have been trying to convince us for years that they don't get an advantage from the sports. What's new about that?
As for six, I know we had paid interns, so I'm not sure what's up with that.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||Maybe not now||
But in Ep1, he tried to shoot himself after gassing Emilio and Krazy-8. Safety was on, but he pulled the trigger. It shows that when he can't come to terms with all the bad he's done, that's his way out.
I think Jesse is simply going to find Walt lying dead in bed one morning from the lung cancer, and everyone is going to go "WTF!?! SEINFELD!"
|10 weeks 1 day ago||My SID Internship||
It was year long. In my case, unpaid, but I got credits for it. Upper classmen had the same internship, but instead of credits, they got paid (I think minimum, but it was a pretty easy internship).
|10 weeks 1 day ago||That's just it||
The value of the scholarship already affects where students go to school. Why should intern pay be any different. You have employees, you're entitled to pay them what you want. If they don't wantto work for that money, they can go somewhere else.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||It is similar||
It is only intended to fix a few things.
1 - Remove the sham of "amatureism" without making them pros.
2 - Remove any shred of legitimacy to the small schools' whining about the costs of paying players. Nobody can tell anyone else what it's okay to pay employees.
3 - basically tell the NCAA to go screw itself. These students aren't amature athletes. They are student-employees in a student-study program. I mean, I worked for the athletic department as a Sports Information intern in school. Nobody said I was less a student at the school.
|10 weeks 2 days ago||Indeed||

Cam Gordon laid a couple of big licks tonight, but they were at the end of plays, rather than at the LOS or in the backfield. He was dropping rather than charging. Mattison really showed a LOT of respect for Rees arm tonight, to the point that it opened things up big time for the ND Rush game.

I will offer my take, which, as a critically uninformed and over excitable fan, is clearly absolutely essential reading.
Pass Blocking may be pretty good, or Pass Rush may have great potential but be spotty.
Run Blocking may need some work yet while showing flashes. I don't think there's anything wrong with the D-Line's run defense.
Gardner can flat out throw that ball.
Saw good things from all over the recieving corp.
Fitz looked great running and did some nice pass-pro.
Fitz is probably definitely our #1 back. (Really strong statement, isn't it? Probably definitely.)
Cam Gordon could have a very nice year.
Hayes will see increased playing time this year.

2. I wish Gunderson had developed skill wise. Just massive.

Someone comes to police and reports a crime. If there is not immediate evidence (like a dead body or a stolen item recovered with prints), the crime is logged and the suspect named by the claimer, if any, is put on the list of interest/suspects/etc. This tells that person, "You're not arrested, but don't leave town."
Then, the police will begin the investigation to find out what crime, if any, actually took place based on evidence, eye-witenss reports, etc, and at that time can make the decision whether or not to go out and arrest one or more suspects in an attempt to interview them, gain more evidence, hold them to protect others, etc.
|19 weeks 2 days ago||JHe could have||
But for a co,lege football coach to say, "My athletic specimen of a young man who is trained to react quicly and with force, and is at the very least held high in esteem by most that he meets was struck by a woman and it's all her fault" is ind of inviting guffaws and some serious 'blame the victim' hate, true or not. Stopgap technology at best. Of course, batteries aren't sustainable either, with the limited quantity of LI-On available (most of it Chinese). People jumped the gun on Fuel Cell tech, which was a long way off when it first hit the public eye 5 or 6 years ago, but it's coming. That's renewable, clean, fast to fill and cheap. Best of all, your "current" electric vehicle could be easily refitted with fuel cells instead of a battery pack.
|19 weeks 2 days ago||Yeah, I never liked this case||
"Barking at a police dog" is the stupidest thing I can think of. You've had too many. You see a dog. "Hey, man! Look at that dog! Woof, Woof, dog! Woof! Oh cool. He barked back at me." This is not an arrestable offense. Then there was the resisting arrest, but I swear, that gets tagged on to every single arrest I've ever heard of.
"Excuse me, Officer, but why are you arresting me?"
"QUIT RESISTING, YOU!"

|19 weeks 2 days ago||Good||
I hope this is true. I hope that nobody was seriously injured and that if innocent, Mr. Hyde is restored to full and active status with the Buckeyes as he should be. I furthermore hope that if the woman in question did, in fact, make a false statement against him, as it seems, that she is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
I can, in fact, see that being quite likely in that, if she is a policeman's daughter, she could be angry at him for whatever reason, and she could simply decide to go 'crying to daddy' to get him in trouble. It's becoming more and more frequent as women quickly look for ways to give back all the headway honest feminists have been building over the years. I don't deny taking great joy in OSU's pain here, but I never said one bad comment about the individuals involved.

I think if you've got a 300+ pounder that is extremely good at DT, you're probably okay with him losing half a step speed wise. That's not a planet. That's Unicron.

|26 weeks 3 days ago||XKCD||
XKCD has turned me on to innovative statistical graphing, but I never really thought about where it all originated.
At any rate, this is the cylical result of SEC dominance, but as I said, it's cylical. History has shown that highly successful organizations eventually end up headed by people who either assume that success is their birthright, and so do not try, or by the truly overzealous, wherin they cannot sanely lead the program as they adhere to bygone ways with a nearly religious bent. In either case, this eventually leads to organization backslide. Schools like Kentucky are cleaning up not because of their own successes, but because they offer student athleetes the chance to play on the biggest stage, against the cream of the crop.
In truth, the poor recruiting of the rest of the big ten can be placed somewhat upon the shoulders of failure at Michigan and, to some extent, OSU. Kentucky ain't winning any more BCS games than Minnesota is. Tennessee is still in tatters (SHOWER DISCIPLINE!). But the continued success of Bama, LSU and their incredibly high profile conference mates makes them more attractive by extension.
"Okay, we're not 'Bama. But by god, we play them all four years that you'll be here, and EVERYONE will be watching to see if you can stop their steamroller."
Coaches used to be able to say the same things about Michigan and OSU. Then OSU lost national title games in horrifying fashion. Michigan lost to A - ENTRY NOT FOUND. Now the chance to play against those schools is less attractive. I hope there's a new 10 year war. It puts attention right on the Big Ten where it needs to be.

|27 weeks 1 day ago||Hmmm...||
He was considered a pro style QB coming out of HS, but somewhat short (6'1") and decent speed (4.57 40). It'll be interesting to see what happens. he might be a good fit, as Toledo loves to air it out, but runs a spread, so the QB still needs to be an anklebreaker wherever possible.
On that note, since 2009, they've only recruited 4 QB's. A 2-star in '09, nobody in 10 OR 11, a 3-Star in 12 and two 2-stars this year. That's a situation that a guy can find playing time in. Sitting out a year is fine anyway, because this year's team belongs to Senior Terrance Owens.

Personally, I think the best way to introduce scotch drinkers to scotch is to start with a Rusty Nail made with Dewars or JW, then buy them their first bottle of single malt, preferably a 12 year GlenLivet, for a birthday.
Ideally, get them the bottle on their 21st birthday, help them ease into and appreciate scotch, and crack the GlenLivet on their 22nd (or 20th and 21st, if it's a responsible house.)

Yeah, but you gotta remember that the calf is subject to a ton of flexion and stress, and it's not a high scar tissue problem area. You need to stitch it strong so it can handle stretching during the healing process, and it's not a big deal if you get a gangly scar on there.
Plus, if that's cotton stitching, it'll heal into the wound a bit and hurt like hell to remove. In that case, you want as few stitches as possible.

But it would really confuse the plot to some extent. As soon as you potentially take away some of the power from Ender, his decisions, evolution and emotional turmoil become less important.
I won't say any more than that, because THPOILERTH!

|30 weeks 2 days ago||Eh...||
It was good through Shadow Puppets. It fleshed out the universe a bit (especially the conditions on some areas of earth), and I felt like he had more to say about the development of some of the characters and their evolution. After Shadow puppets, it definitely got a little cookie cutter, but meh. Write 5 or 6 good books and you'll probably end up following a pattern as well.
I was not aware of the Worthing Saga. I will check that out!
|30 weeks 2 days ago||Eh...||
Yeah, but I can re-read that book and enjoy it just as much as the first time, so I'm not too concerned.

You fail at punctuation. The correct phrasing for that sentence is, "So Ender's Game is a good book."
Read it. Then read Ender's shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon and Shadow Puppets. Read Speaker for the Dead and Xenocide somewhere in the middle there if you want, though they're quite different books.

|31 weeks 4 hours ago||That's not really true||
My wife is a teacher at a charter school in Toledo. They are REQUIRED to accept any student in their service area who wishes to transfer in there (and most that do transfer because they were doing horribly at the regular public school), and management lashes out at the teachers when special ed kids, SPECIAL ED KIDS, aren't able to close the gap with the regular students.
So, your information sucks.

Twitter didn't make it a hashtag. Computer programming did that. Twitter just had the great (and simple) idea to set that up in their user inputs. That's a really easy rule to code. I never thought about that before. The modules for making things trending and so on are difficult, but shoot, you could probably code that with about 10 lines of PHP.

Yeah, it looks really cool. HOWEVA: It does bring up one important question. Doesn't anybody go to football games to WATCH FOOTBALL anymore?
Oh, heck no. We need screens EVERYWHERE. Fireworks. Moving parts. A 100 yard long bar!
I have had the best football experiences of my life in Michigan Stadium and the Glass Bowl in Toledo. In the bleachers. Sometimes while getting rained on. The amenities at each game were "hotdogs and pop".
|31 weeks 2 days ago||Indeed||
This is just bad PR. I have NO problem with them telling a kid who is transfering, "Alright, but your athletic scholarship is only good so long as you're a member of the athletic team." None. That's just logical.
However, coming out with it seems pretty foolish. Maybe they assumed it would get out anyway, so why not do it first? But if so, find a better way to frame it! Something like this:
"Purdue University has reached out to basketball star Sandi Marcius, hoping that he will return for a final season in Black and Gold. Marcius, a fan favorite, is considering transfering for his final season, and the university wanted to ensure he was aware of all the benefits returning might hold as he considers his final-year decision."

These are fantastic! Just one more thing Toledo does well.
Two days (and about $600) in Toledo, OH:
Arrive early at the Toledo Farmer's Market, downtown:
Then, grab breakfast at BleakHouse Coffee:
You're already downtown, so head west on Monroe and spend a couple hours at the TOledo Museum of Art. Have lunch in the cafe.
Now it's early afternoon, time for that day-game Mudhens first pitch. Head back down Monroe Street into downtown to 5/3rd Field, and grab yourself a Maumee Bay Brewing Broken Bat Ale, available only at 5/3rd.
Were the kids good all game? Walk (no need to drive) one block over and one block north on Summit Street to Imagination Station! You can kill the rest of the afternoon/evening here.
Stay the night DIRECTLY across the street at the Park Inn hotel
The next morning, you can have breakfast thereat the hotel, or you can head around the corner to Glass City Cafe if you had too many Broken Bat's, which is the best place for a morning hangover-cure breakfast.
Then spend the REST OF THE DAY at the Toledo Zoo. Yes, you can easily spend an entire day here.
Finish your trip with a dog at Tony Packo's, there's one pretty much right on your way to 75, 475 or 23, on your way out of town. An absolute must.

That's not a reasonable reaction. By your logic, if she were assaulted by a black man, she should hate and fear black people and anything that promotes or exemplifies black culture.
A group is only defined by the members that make it up in as much as those members embrace the rules, regulations and charter of the group. Unless you can show that UCONN athletics in some way supports sexual assault, then holding any sort of grudge, resentment, or even mild fear, aggravation or negative sentiment towards UCONN athletics because of the actions of one person whom was dismissed is hate, not rational fear.
This woman may not realize it, but her fear of assault has turned her racist.
|31 weeks 6 days ago||Yeah||
Goodness knows, when you can find the gumption to write a formal complaint over a university athletics logo because somebody associated with university athletics once committed sexual assault, you're really a tortured soul exposed to the absolute worst times of humanity.
