Continuing the Defensive UFR will be a good exercise for the year. You should dump the offensive one, but I would suggest at least tracking the shot chart if it is not too much effort. I'd be curious to see the trends during the year. Pairing the shot chart with some explained advanced metrics and key plays should provide guidance for people watching basketball and looking for something different information-wise. Also, I'm glad to see you remembered scacchoops.com. I have noticed some issues with their possession statistic during games lately, though. |

Sadly, I still think she was better this year than the UM/IU game from last year...
And by better, I poked by eyes and ears out by the 3rd quarter instead of the 2nd. |

sorry to all. Posted the Mallet question to another thread (even though I think it belongs there...). Arkansas is the perfect team to expose the young defensive seconday of Alabama. The Crimson Tide will still excel, but it's a good matchup for the Razorbacks. Now, for UCLA beating Texas...I can't explain that... |

Seriously, did you just respond to your own comment. I admit, there are stupid people that are loving on a 2nd string vs a first string, but give the kid credit for taking a game that was in question and putting it away without assuming that the people supporting him are negative to the starting QB. |
| 2 years 34 weeks ago | I count 18 |
Looking at the Depth Chart, I count 18 available scholarships available if one is allocated each to Grady, Leach, and Kovacs and Woolfolk gets another year. If a scholarship is not provided to each of the walk-ons (Grady, Leach, Kovacs), then I count 21 available. |
| 2 years 36 weeks ago | DC Bars |
I've not noticed any true M Bars in DC. I currently live in Centreville which is a bit West of the city, and there is a Velocity 5 there that I would not mind creating a pro-UM atmosphere. It was empty this past Saturday, and I'm sure a little business would make them happy as well. |

In true Zooker fashion, this Sheelhaan (sp?) kid at Illinois is like a Juice Williams with a shorter skill set. On 1st and 10 he throws into double coverage right into the hands of a Missouri Safety. Looks like that MSU turnover people are calling for is happening in St Louis right now... EDIT: Scheelhaas is the name |

Very, very interesting way to look at offensive trends over years. I'd like to see something similar done for the defense in yards against per play as well? I am wondering if we could see similar trends. |

Ah, how I don't miss my hometown sometimes. Although, it is not surprising. There always seems to be a overabundance of knee-jerk reactions that occur in Brighton from time to time. In fact, if anyone remembers the show 30 days, there is an somewhat embarrassing portrayal of Brighton (and Howell) at the 35 minute point of the episode. The video is long so I won't embed, but here is a link: |

Completely agree with the tackling comment. Good CF, perfect form tackles, and pretty good instincts. He is a little stiff and I noticed that on run support he does get sucked into the middle a bit. Solid reaction to make the tackles, but a better back could burn the corner and trap him. Still, his potential looks better than any other deep safety M have on the roster right now. |

how are those 3s treating you now. There is a time and a place for it, and a good three will lead to a better eFG% which has been shown to be a truer measure of a team's shooting performance. It's all about selection, and the past two or three have been spot on. |

| 3 years 16 weeks ago | Ugly Offense |
It is an ugly offensive game. Both team Off Efficiency are under 90 at the half. MSU = 80.6 and UM = 89.4 State turning the ball over on 35% of possessions. Michigan eFG% of 32.3. It'll be interesting to see if Michigan can get a few more shots to fall and if MSU can break the 1-3-1 a bit better. |

This is the best I've seen the 1-3-1 all year. It's actually extending state out and that is where it's effective. It looks Mich has gotten away with a few calls so far. EDIT: n/m. Right as I wrote that, the And 1 in the lane... Boooo! |

An official walked off to the locker room hurt. Looked like it tweaked at random. Who knows what's going to happen with the officiating now... |
| 3 years 18 weeks ago | Have to disagree |
He will not hit the home runs, but he has lit up CoPa (yes, I still call it CoPa) in his career: .363/.412/.550 with a .961 OPS. So, I think his numbers will be fine there. That said, I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the move. The team is better with a rangey defense in that outfield, and I'm not convinced his range is that great anymore. As for the arm, that goes without saying but it's really a wash because Granderson et al were not gunning many runners from CF either. |
| 3 years 20 weeks ago | Momentum has shifted |
The two threes shifted the momentum to Indiana. Wright had a chance to shift it back, but that was an incredibly weak move to an open basket leaving the block wide open for IU's Pritchard. |
| 3 years 20 weeks ago | Flu is gone |
Looks like his flu is finally gone and he can function as he normally does. That foul was a make-up for the missed travel a few possessions ago. As for Morris, if he can develop that in a set offense, then he will get better and give the offense another dimension. For what it's worth, the refs have been typical Big 10 awful today both ways. |
| 3 years 23 weeks ago | Don't forget the fridge |
Don't forget about Ralph Friedgen in Maryland. The only reason he still has a job after a 2-10 year is because Maryland can't afford to pay the buyout. Also, supposedly, he barely recruits anymore. Let's just be happy we don't have to deal with that at least.

| 3 years 24 weeks ago | Odd Study |
I'm not sure how much stock I would put into this. The participant pool could be large, but the time of study, i.e. one game, will skew the data depending on how exciting the game is. His two separate studies (one of the amazing 06 UM v OSU game, and the other of a decently played Super Bowl) really should be combined into one and spread out over the course of multiple games. Additionally, results of fans of a team should be compared against each other in at least 4 separate game situations: big win, close win, close loss, big loss and results of the questions need to be better compared during the course of the game. I guarantee you that a fan base will not be happy if their team is losing by 20 points if they expect to win. Honestly, I think this study, from a social science scope and method point of view, is very poorly done and should be reconsidered in the light of the sheer fickleness that a fanbase can present on any given day. |
| 3 years 27 weeks ago | Conditioning? |
I hate to question the great shrine that is Barwis, but might this have something to do with conditioning? After watching the Wisconsin game it seems that the further the game went along the more the lines got blown off the ball. This may be another way to explain the youth on the team. I imagine young players are not conditioned quite to the same level as upperclassmen due to time with the program. Not sure how to think about the rough second halves the past few weeks; however, conditioning and momentum call out to me. |
| 3 years 27 weeks ago | Agreed |
I agree. This Roh-post needs to be be diffused to the other UM Football blogs floating around the net. Just a thought for y'all that float around all of the blogs. |
| 3 years 27 weeks ago | Tressel giggle? |
I don't SweatVest knows how to giggle. I imagine anything close to it comes out in raspy, shortened chortles. Imagine a smoker trying to breathe after running a few miles--that is how I imagine a Tressel laugh/giggle. |

There is little to be gleaned from the Friday night Showcase this week. The o/u is 39, and I'm seriously considering the under. |
| 3 years 30 weeks ago | I think I may have cried at |
I think I may have cried at the end of this one. I was a boy, and I had just come back from a Pee Wee football game. I still had my football pants on, in fact. I remember laying stomach down on the ground and banging my fists over and over wondering why, why, why??? From that day forward, I always had a bit of venom in my heart for Kordell Stewart and Michael Westbrook from that day forward. |

| 3 years 30 weeks ago | AD Role |
The real questions I have regarding a new AD are as follows: 1: Will he or she be amenable to pushing Lacrosse into Varsity status? I think football will be fine. It is Michigan, so it will always have top dog standing. A true AD candidate will really have to be measured how they reconcile the might of the football with the rest of the program. |

| 3 years 33 weeks ago | Block a little late |
Not a knock on Huyge because that's a solid pull through the hole, but Huyge was just a step behind on getting to the block before Minor was on him. One more step and Huyge can stabilize and seal the block opening up Minor for the cut to the outside. Instead, Huyge and Safety dive for block and tackle nearly simultaneously and the shoestring tackle is made on Minor. |
| 3 years 34 weeks ago | Exactly |
Exactly! It was the MSU fan and the closet PSU fan in the corner talking about it with their backs turned to me at one point. It was cute in that MSU pathetic sort of way with the PSU fan humoring him by nodding and smiling. I grew up in an area that was primarily MSU fans so it's nothing new to me, but it's always makes me smile and makes me feel good about a Sparty, No! moment. |
| 3 years 34 weeks ago | Sparty, No! |
I'll be keeping an eye on the MSU/Wisky game hoping for another Sparty, No! moment. I put up with a snotty MSU fan last night talking about how only UM and OSU fans root against other Big Ten teams last night, so I'm a little bitter today. The NC and GT game should also be solid, and I'm sure I will pick it up on something in my area (No. Virginia). |
| 3 years 36 weeks ago | TB Draw |
The defense got extremely exposed on the delay plays, specifically the screens and draws. ND gashed the LBs on the same seal draw to the right side every time. There is an issue with over pursuit with this defense currently. It's not necessarily a problem--just a factor of young players that want to make a tackle. This hopefully will be countered by the MSU game. Other than that, the coverage is as good as one can expect, Forcier is a kid that understands the game of football beyond his years, and the running game will continue to develop. It was better this week. Also, Hemingway is important to this offense as a deep threat. The lack of a deep threat allowed ND to focus their defense 10 yards from the LOS. There was not much of a threat beyond the yard marker. The team needs a deep threat to make the bubble screens more effective. |

| 3 years 36 weeks ago | WMU Defense really that bad? |
Has anyone else noticed that Indiana is thumping Western 17-7 with 231 yards of offense with 4 minutes left in the 2nd Quarter? Here's to hoping that Michigan's Offense really is back and not just a byproduct of a bad opponent. |
| 3 years 36 weeks ago | UCONN v NC |
I'm watching the UCONN game, and it seems that the Huskies have a decent little bend but don't break defense. The offense is young and prone to turnovers though. From the looks of it, the UCONN defense is quick and engages in pretty good ball pursuit in the open field, but is vulnerable to larger, more athletic teams right now. |
| 3 years 36 weeks ago | Current PED |
I was curious of that as well, and took a look at the current ratings. Michigan is currently 56th in the country in PED. I imagine that long TD from Hiller took that number from about the mid 30s to the 50s. On the flip side, Nevada is currently last after their debacle last week. |
