kicked the ball on purpose. I remember being home from BG for the weekend, having watched the PSU game at my folks house and dozing afterwards. I woke up right around the end of the Nebraska game because one of my bussies called me and told me Nebraska was about to lose. Its a good thing I grew up on a farm, because no one was able to hear my profanity laced tirade when they allowed that TD

there is reason now to wonder if Paterno was also hiding something, and it warrants investigation. To continue to say "ehh thats how it was back then" is the same mistake over again. All I said was "maybe". Whats wrong with taking a look?
|2 weeks 11 hours ago||right||
but in 1976, when Paterno had been there 8 years and didnt have much of a legacy to protect,and he coul've axed Sandusky without anyone paying much attention to it at all, why keep him around? Something stinks. Its not as if Sandusky were some defensive savant who ran schemes that no one else could have dreamed of. DC's are fairly replaceable. Why keep this guy on at the risk of your own career? The more that comes out about the longer Paterno knew the more I think theres some kind of skeletoon in Paternos closet that maybe Sandusky knew about, so they traded silence for silence
|2 weeks 11 hours ago||point of clarification||
I said "maybe" and at this point, its worth investigating. Thats all. It's a question worth asking. To continue to say "nope, there was just a mindset back then" naah, not now, not anymore. Not in the face of 30+ years of knowledge. There just very well may be a reason beyond "thats just how it was".
My Grandfather was older than Paterno, and he wouldn't have turned a blind eye. My Dad once though one of his coworkers had ripped my shirt "horsing around" one day and was about ready to kill him (and really, he was born in the 40s so not that far remvoed from Paterno).
Im not saying Paterno was a molester, but perhaps he had some weird predilection. Maybe something Sandusky knew about and Joe traded silence for silence.
Amd again, MAYBE. But its worth asking. Im no longer willing to accept Paterno was silent for all those years "just because". It could very well be the case, and there may not be anything more to it than that, but at this point, assumptions are no longer good enough.
|2 weeks 12 hours ago||knowing what we now know||
back in 1976 Paterno hadn't been there that long, didnt have all that much of a "legacy" to protect, it seems very odd that he wouldn't have just gotten rid of Sandusky. UNLESS there is something sickening about Paterno as well. Maybe Paterno was a monster too

Hue jackson is above Marvin Lewis. Not sure how that works, exactly. Under whom he was the OC last year? The guy who has 10x the head coaching experience? Makes no sense

|8 weeks 6 days ago||worse for whom?||
For me, the Pats losing was worse becase: A- Brady (in the pre-internet days, id fight nayone who thought Henson was better than Brady, but I dont have the stone tablets I chiseled my words into to prove it. I wanted to Browns to take Brady, instead we got Spergeon Wynn). and B: have always wanted to see an NFL run the table (ever since i was a kid, its been a fascination of mine, dont know why)
If the Warriors lose, I'll will revel in the schadenfreude. You can tell a lot about teams/players when things are going really weel, and these guys were some smug sunzabeaches. They really thought they were the cats ass, and had it all figured out, from ownership on down. Every time people were metaphorically blowing Steph or talking about how they were "ZOMG best team EVAR!!11!!!1!!11!!" I was hoping theyd get punched in the mouth, have to deal with an injury or whatever to see how they responded.

The first Taurus was bought by her parents so she'd have a reliable car to drive to and from college, the first Escape was her law school graduation gift (I financed) and the2nd Escape we got because the first Escape had 98 k miles on it, was 4 years old (driving to political events all over the staes adds up the miles), and she had a job where a candidate for Lt. Governor rode in her car a lot (and she put 40k miles on it during that campaign alone). I had my F-150 for 9 yrs
(and dont talk to me about using her personal (and brand new) car as a mule for those slimy motherbleepers. I love my wife, she has a passion, end of story.
And if we're being hyperspecific it was 2001-2015 (when we sold Escape 2) and 4 cars for 2 people in 14 years...Im sorry, what was the question again?
|10 weeks 11 hours ago||We were a Ford family as well||
when I was born we had a Ford van, then we got another Ford van. The farm trucks we had were Fords. My Dad (who grew up in Ferndale in the 50s and 60s) HATED GMs for many reasons (he was a believer in built in obsolescence).
As I set out on my own, my wife and I became Ford people. We had a good relationship with a salesman at a nearby Ford dealership, who was friends with her Father. I didnt trust him, but he also knew I wasnt a sheep. we had a mutual respect. From 2001-2011 we went through 4 different Fords purchased from him (2 Escapes, a Taurus and an F-150).
With my wifes last Escape (a 2011) we had problems with the AC system. Apparently, on those models, the method for removing the mositure from the system produced by the AC was a "desscant bag" which amounted to a heavy-ish cardboard "bag" full of dessicant crystals (similar to the silica crystals you might find in a shoebox). Welp, because the made the "bag" out of cardboard, and its main job was to deal with moisture, the cardboard eventually molds, and then breaks. This releases the dessicant cryatals into the AC system, and rots the entire system out from the inside. The repair job was anywhere from $1800-$2600.
In my research, i found out a number of people had this issue. Ford knew about this issue and didnt issue a recall because it didnt affect safety. This issue affected us in 2014. We had purchaed the vehicle 42 months earlier. Unfortunately, my wife had a job for a couple of those years that required a lot of drivving 9which is why we got her a new car, safety, reliability etc), and we also moved from Cleveland to Columbus and did a lot of shuttling back and forth, so we were already knocking on the 100k door. We were wout of warranty due to mileage.
I went to the dealer. I went to corporate. iIargued that the mileage doesnt affect the AC system, and since we were withing 48 months, and were loyal customers, they should at least cut me a break on the repairs. They wouldnt budge.
I will never buy a Ford again.

James Posey went to another school in our conference. It wasn't even fair. He whooped up on us all the way thru HS (my career ended after 8th grade)
Crazy thing was, he wasn't even the best player at the time. There was another player, a year older, who was considerably better than Posey. He would've made the Association as well, but some poor choices, bad grades and multiple baby mommas derailed that train. So, at the end of the day, it was Posey.

Steph Curry, and the media fawning over him as if he's the greatest player ever, already
|11 weeks 1 hour ago||all I can think||
is that on 50 years someone new to NBA fandom might see this and think Steph was better than Jordan, at least for 1 year, and that's hogwash. Malone in 1997 only happened because it was a cute story. In 1990 Magic won over Jordan even though Jordan went for 34/7/7. In 1987 Jordan finished third to Magic and Larry who both submitted career years, mainly because Jordan "didn't know how to win yet". That's three Jordan didnt win on top of the 5 that he did. All this vote means is that media members have more accountability now than they used to have and are less able to hide behind lazy tropes to give votes to less deserving candidates.
The most egregious example of this, and the year Jordan came closest to being unanimous MVP was 1996, when two voters rated Penny Hardaway MVP for keeping Orland respectable after Shaq left, even though it was Jordan's first full season back from baseball and he elevated the a Bulls team that won 55 games the year prior by 17 (!) victories, and led the first 70 win team in NBA history.
Another dirty little secret, outside of the top 4 teams in the West, the conference was no where near as tough as it has been in recent years and I'd say the East in 1995-6 was deeper and tougher 1-8 than the West was this season.
Full disclosure: I grew up a Cavs fan. There is no player I "hated" more in my youth than Jordan. I still like the Cavs now, but when LBJ left in 2010 it turned me off of the NBA as a whole (still watched every game of the grueling 2010-11 season), and my NBA fandom is no longer at the level that it used to be, even with LBJs return. Now I follow along on Twitter mostly, hope for good things, but don't devote much time or effort to my fandom. LBJs departure opened my eyes to How little regard NBA players have for fans, and more specifically I realized that, for the most part, unless you happen to root for a team in a "glamor" market, your ceiling is hoping to catch lightning in a bottle every 10 years or so. Randomly this realization has also increased my level of respect for Tim Duncan, but he's an anomaly.
Tl;dr...just because it was unanimous doesn't mean it was historic, and I'd take quite a few of Jordan's MVP years over Stephs 8 days a week (and even some of the ones where he didn't win)

By the time I got it is was 18 years old and leaky. Every time I stopped for gas I had to check the oil. One time it was close to 2 AM and I was driving my girlfriend (at the time) home after a night out. I stopped at the gas station nearest her house before dropping her off (probably shouldve waited until after, but she wanted to get some gum or whatever as well).
Old people like me may remember those cars had the gas cap behind the rear license plate. So, I put the hose in, locked the latch, and proeeded to pop my hood to check my oil. My oil was a bit low so I went in to buy a quart. As I was putting the oil in, my girlfriend started talkinig about how she was going to be late, lets go yadda yadda. I finished with the oil, closed the hood, tossed the paper funnel and got back in the car. Started 'er up and drove away. About 3 feet later there was a big "KA THUNK" and I felt a jerk coming from behind.
I forgot to take the gas hose out of the back of the car. Luckily it was a breakaway hose and gas was not spewing all over the place. I took the hose out of the filler neck, set it on the ground, looked around and made sure no employees saw me, and GTF outta there.
My girlfriend was howling. For the rest of our dating life, every time I got gas, she mentioned it.

Michigan jersey came from Moe's. We were in Michigan for a family 2 week camping epic, going up one side of the state and down the other with stops in E. Tawas, Mackinac, Charlevoix, Torch Lake, Sleeping Bear, etc. I was 9 and told that if I wasn't a complete P.I.T.A for the trip, i could get the jersey I had been pining for since the previous Christmas. A few times during the trip I was "reminded" that we could easily pass Ann Arbor by on the way from Grand Rapids to Oak Park, and that straightened me right out.
We first went to the M-Den and they didnt have the exact jersey I wanted. They were nice enough to call over to Moes, who said they had a bunch of "last seasons" jerseys left over, just not on display. They'd be happy to search what they had for us.
For some reason I still remember the sales lady having to crawl around on the floor opening those huge (at least they seemed to be at the time) wooden drawers they have below the shelves, trying to find me #23 (or, as I called it, "a Jamie Morris jersey").
God bless Moe's.

I was at student at Bowling Green at the time. Most of my fraternity brothers were from Ohio and OSU fans. They had all talked themselves into 1997 being their year because Michigan had ruined so many National title dreams for OSU in the 90's that it was their turn for some payback. They all decided to get a keg and watch the game together in an off campus house. I was alone in our fraternity house with my roommate, who was #NFLOnly guy.
After the game, I heard the guys start filtering back into the house, doors slamming, expletives being shouted down the halls, and I decided to have some fun. Ran through the halls singing "The Victors". Ended up at the bottom of a dog pile with about 50 brusies. And it was worth every damn one of them.

my first attempt at college, thats what I did, and I spent 10 years working real jobs to pay it all off and get myself back to zero. Then,during all that time working real jobs, I learned I HAD to go back to school, because there wasn't much opportunity for advancement without a degree. I was lucky enough to worki in operations for regional banks, so I was fortunate there (can always be worse), but after my 4th layoff in 6 years (all part of wide spread layoffs), I decided enough was enough.
I got back into school. My wife was working, but her Law School debt was enough to give Scrooge McDuck heartburn, so there wasn't much loose cash to pay for things upfront. The latest company I had landed with didnt offer tuition reimbursement. But, had to do it.
And now I'm buried...and my wife is buried. Maybe it would be different if you didnt need a freaking degree to get a job that makes 35k a year. Thats part of the problem. An employer shouldnt be allowed to require a degree for a job unless that job pays a commensurate amount of money.

if this were the old days where once a recruit was "committed" other schools would lay off, thinking the race was over, that'd be a different story, but from what I gather every school recruits whoever they want, verbals be damned, all the way until the fax machine warbles

I got a call at work from my sister (who was hysterical) and the first thought in m head (as it was the beginning of April) was "this is a really bad April Fools joke."
He used to stop breathing in his sleep many (in the 20s or more) times a night. As a fan, the same story coming from players in both cities adds credence to their unhappiness, as it serves as independent verification to each other. I'm hoping the Browns find a new staff and there's a Mattison-esque turnaround next year. At the same time, the Browns go through regimes like paper towels, and I really want them to try continuity, if only because its something they haven't tried before.

this sucks because it means one more opening that's light years more attractive than the Browns job, which means fewer candidates available that are a step up in class than Pettine, which increases the likelihood Haslam sticks with the status quo

Best gift ever was the 50cc Honda MiniTrail bike I got when I was 12. My folks found it in the auto trader and I learned a ton about basic engine maintenance and repair keeping it running. I probably put about 10000 miles on that sucker over the next couple years.

the recruit has control over what they put on their Twitter page/timeline/bio.
On the other hand tweets from adults to recruits are generally unsolicited, but come with the implication that the person tweeting the recruit feels that their opinion should somehow impact what a minor is thinking.
Now if the recruit posts a question and/or asks for feedback? Fair game. Re-tweets/likes? Again, this is information the recruit put out for public consumption (they may even want the attention). But the moment a stranger is offering unsolicited advice/commentary, that's creepy.

the Schiano hire speaks volumes. New Jersey has become a fertile recruiting ground and my hunch is Urban hired him mainly because of his existing relationships in that area.
Any time tOSU is reacting to what Michigan is doing is a good thing. Schiano's record on the defensive side of the ball isnt mind-bending by any stretch of the imagination. He might be a good coordinator, but I think the main reason for his hiring is more about recruiting than x's and o's.

Mack is gone and they drafted Erving to be his heir apparent but that's not working out too well. The right side of the line isn't great either. The WR corps will be better than average if (humongous if) Josh Gordon can come back and stay on the roster. Benjamin and Hartline are serviceable. Could use a blocking TE. Barnidge is a great receiver but they could use a better blocker for the run game. For RB's, Duke Johnson is going to be an excellent 3rd down/ change of pace guy. I like Crowell but he doesn't seem to be able to get to the second level with any consistency. Not sure if that's on him or the line. Also losing the o-line coach because he's a dumbass didn't help, I'm sure.
The defense? I just don't know. On paper they should be a whole lot better. Haden had been in the concussion protocol for at least a month and was dinged before that. He wasn't playing up to his standard before that anyway. Not sure if it was just a bad start to the season or what. Justin Gilbert will go down as an all time bust. Letting TJ Ward go to sign Whitner was a mistake. Danny Shelton might end up being OK but the constant shuffling of the D line and scheme continues to be detrimental. Mingo is a freaky athlete without a position. Paul Kruger was a 2 down LB in Baltimore that Joe Banner gave 8 million a year to, and he can't set an edge to save his life.
Assuming they don't get a qb, and assuming they have a top 5 pick, they have to get the best WR or pass rusher they can. If Fournette was coming out this year I'd want him. I know RBs are fungible but there's an exception for AP level guys. And they make a qbs life soooo much easier when they average 4 yds a pop.
I wish they'd have stayed with the shanahan zone running scheme, but unfortunately they did not. Doesn't matter, they're cleaning house. The most important thing is whoever they pick better not be a bust and better be on the field and contributing from game 1

Simmons stated that they were only featured on the ESPN main page an average of 2x per month, and toward the end it was less than that. he also said (I believe, dont have the time to scroll through the podcast to fact check) that something like 65% of their traffic was unique and not from ESPN's main page. It appears ESPN's main page was not the conduit many expected it to be, and yet the honchos at ESPN tried to use those smaller traffic numbers (versus projections based on the full on ESPN firehose treatment) as fodder for their argument that Grantalnd (and by association, Simmons) were not worth what he was asking

But, lets not let the facts get in the way of a good story. Damn you corporate interests. BIG MEDIA is ruining our lives.
Anyhow, the good news is Simmons will get a lot ofo these writers back together under the HBO umbrella. Some have already gotten new jobs, and Im not sure if there are non-competes or anything, so some may get lost in the shuffle, but I expect something similar sometime soon. I dont think Simmons will be as hands on as he had to be at Grantland though. He will be more of an EIC Emeritus, rather than the day to day Chief Cook and Bottle Washer. That way he has more time for podcasts and his new show.

The Big Chill was directed by Michigan alum Lawrence Kasdan. Its IMDB page states: "The characters were based on people Lawrence Kasdan lived with in the Eugene V. Debs co-op in Ann Arbor, MI, while attending the University of Michigan. Co-ops are co-ed housing in which the residents share household duties like cooking. This explains why the characters are so comfortable sharing the house and cooking, and are so attached to the Michigan football game."
so, for that mistake to be in that movie with that director is surprising. I'd bet it was a fumble/ ad lib by the actors.

We wnt there a lot when our son was In utero and an infant, then the baby fog lifted and we realized how awful that place was. |50 weeks 8 hours ago||Ive had UVerse for most of the past 5 years||
The only time I did not have it was in 2011 when I moved to Columbus and it wasnt in my area yet. For that time I had Time Warner (which is basically the Comcast of Ohio. Id sit my bare ass on a hot cast iron stove before I went back to Time Warner).
The service with U-verse is fantastic, and you can get promotional deals ALL THE TIME. I currentyl have 300 channels (but not HBO/Cinemax, because I already used the freee HBO promotion), 15GB upstream, 2 GB downstream, 1 wired box and 3 wireless boxes for $125 a month plus tax.
Here are the caveats for AT&T: You have to work to get the promotions. They don't tell you about them, you just have to call every couple months and tell them you want to go to a cheaper plan and they'll find whats available. Last time I had to do this is because my 6 months of free HBO expired and all of a sudden my bill went to $160. I called them to tell them I wasn't paying for that month of HBO (they removed the charge) and told them I wanted to go down to the 100 channel package (U100). They looked for promotions, and bumped me up from U200 to U300, and somehow my bill went from $130 a month to $125 a month.
So, you have to actively engage them to get the deals, and if you have a promotion on your account, they will not tell you when it is expiring, so you have to watch your bill like a hawk.
But, as far as the product goes, I have no complaints whatsoever. I work for a Managed Services company and routinely have to conduct remote support sessions from my home office. I never have any issues, even if everyone else is home and using bandwidth.

because I had a '92 Cavalier in the very same color. Oh yeah, it also had an aluminum head. The problem with the aluminum heads was that if they'd get too hot, they'd warp, and not even replacing the head gasket would help. I remember being stuck in traffic in that POS, watching the temperature gauge climb towards the ionosphere, and turning the heat on even though it was 95 degrees outside to try and keep it running long enough to escape whatever traffic jam I was in and put more coolant in.

My best friend in Elementary school (in Ohio) was also a U of M fan, and he had one of the old Champion M jerseys that had "MICHIGAN" emblazoned across the front, but otherwise looked just like game day jerseys (survivors of the 80's you may remember these). He had #23 because he loved Jamie Morris (didnt' everyone?)
I wanted one of those jerseys so, so badly. Living in Ohio made them pretty tough to come by. At Christmas that year, my Aunt and Uncle tried to get one for me, but they weren't willing to drive to AA from Sterling Heights to get one, so I got my very first piece of licensed M gear, a sweatshirt with the seal.
Finally, the next summer, we spent a week up at Sleeping Bear, Mackinac, Charlevoix, Torch Lake etc, and on the way back to Grandma's in Royal Oak we stopped in AA at Moe's. I ended up with Gerald White's #22, which was fine by me, because back then I played fullback in Pop Warner.

tax (8%) - 128
dealer "documentation" fee- $175 (they showed it to me the previous day)
title/plates - $42.50
So when I offered $1800 "out the door" I was not offering more than the advertised price. Also, keep in mind this was a car I determined the day before was worth $2k to me, so I wasn't trying to negotiate for every last dime. At the time it seemed about the best I'd be able to do for the money I wanted to spend and actually get to keep some of my planned budget in the bank long enough to pay other bills with, so I was ok with that

Next day, I was still thinking about the car and went back on their website. i was considering calling the dealer back and upping my offer to $2200. On the website, I noticed that the price had dropped overnight from $2500 to $1600. I called the dealer and verified it was the same car. And he says "now we can do the 2k you offered, out the door. do you want it now?" I said sure, but Ill only pay $1800, I had to spend some money last night on Thomas the Tank Engine playsets. big car community there, lots of advice and articles
|1 year 1 week ago||cool story time||
For most of my life Ive driven "beaters" (for lack of a better term). What I mean is a car I buy outright that might need a wrench turned here or an alternator swapped there, keep them for a couple years and repeat. Recently, I sold the only vehicle I ever had a payment on, a 2003 F-150, that had been paid off for close to 5 yrs (bought it used. Never buy new!)
Anyhow, Im scanning Craigslist and Auto trader and the local fishwrap classifieds and here is a piece of advice you may or may not want to incorporate into your own search. I found I had more luck dealing with a dealer than a private seller.
On the face this seems odd, as dealers would upsell their mothers if they're given the chance, but let me explain my reasoning. I had 2 main reasons for this (and if things hadnt worked, I wouldve tried another dealer, or gone back to the drawing board). This isnt meant to be gosepl set in stone, more "suggestive". First thing- most dealers just turn and sell the vehicles they take in on trade (especially if theyre over 100k on the odometer) to a wholesaler or auction and make a couple hundred a unit and dont deal with whatever problems they might have. However, there are some dealers out there (you can find them) that will keep a select few of their traded in vehicles and sell them off of their lot. Generally these are the "better" trades that either have a higher resale, or are in pretty good shape. For the most part, if a dealer thinks the car might be a lemon that could end up in negative press they'll jettison it, but if they think its decent enough (from a low price high mileage car perspective), they will keep it and try to see if they can make a grand or so. Lots of times you'll get a free carfax too.
The second reason you may want to see what a dealer has on the wholesale lot is because instead of having to bum a ride of a friend or realtive to go look at a car 20 minutes away only to find out the reason there was no picture of the right rear quarter panel in the ad was because there was no right rear quarter panel, and having wasted all that time, you can go to one place and see 5-10 cars all at once and increase your odds of finding something decent before youre friends start ducking your calls.
Now, the dealer is going to try and make a few hundy off you, and they may say they cant deal with you too much because their margins are already slim, but you can still make an offer. I find the "Ill give you xxx, out the door, including tax title and plates" the best angle. It helps make their silly dealer fees vanish in a hurry.
3 weeks ago, I did exactly this after selling my truck, and I ended up with a 2003 Taurus with 117k on the clock. The car is as loaded as Taurus' got in 2003, and I paid $1800 for it, from a dealer, who had the price listed as $2500.
So, do with this info whatever you like. Merely relaying whats worked for me in the past

Also I'm willing to bet lots of the people who give him shit are jealous that they don't have that kind of free time. In the 80s I uses to add stats up with a USA Today and a calculator. Now I have a job and a family and a mortgage and "free time" means I got to poop without someone knocking on the bathroom door.

I had the chance to see LeBron's SVSM team when he was a senior in high school. LeBron and his teammates grew up together and basically considered each other brothers. Those guys LOVED playing with each other and they were essentially indomitable.

I thought his name was Roscoe Picotrane. Also, a little later in life my Parents bought a Bassett Hound puppy and I campaigned for his name to be Flash (my sister won, and he was named Crawford) That is all I have to share. RIP Mr. Best

|1 year 19 weeks ago||just curious||
what is the general state of the Lions fanbase these days? Is the torch and pitchfork crew out to get Mayhew? Is Caldwell still too fresh to be under scrutiny? Is there truth to the rumors that some of the guys in the locker room don't think Stafford works hard enough/ he is coddled by the front office?
Im a Browns fan, and Lord knows we have plenty of our own issues, so I am by no means trying to point fingers and laugh. I am honestly curious. Since half of my family lives in Michigan, I guess you could say the Lions are my 1b NFL team. The Browns certainly dont have my attention right now, what with their ongoing impression of a hibernating bear, so what say Ye, Lions fans?

now Im not a denier and I definitely think that corporations are tearing this planet out from underneath all of us in the name of the almighty dollar, but there is no denying Al Gore has a stake in a number of "green" companies and stands to make a metric fuckton of money out of this.
Just like no one gave a shit about drinking and driving until there was enough money behind MADD to make politicians nervous, so it will be here. The golden rule is whoever has the money (or stands to make the most) makes the rules, or is at least keenly interested in how they're worded when they are made.
The system is bought and paid for, and we're all screwed.

that they made way too big of a deal about this (they should've just done the updated logo the same day they rolled out the new uniforms), this doesn't really move the needle all that much. Whoop-dee-doo. Maybe they might try, you know, winning more often than they lose one season.

|1 year 23 weeks ago||in a perfect world, sure||
unfortunately, in the real world, there often come times where even though there is a method of operations in place, and "service level agreements" that we all must adhere to, management will tell you to ignore those agreements in an effort to improve their bottom line. My example came from my time in the mortgage industry where I was a loan processor. Generally we had to have certain items for a file to be submitted to underwriting (paystubs, W-2's, signed disclosures), but at the end of the month, when the sales managers were pushing to try and make their numbers as shiny as possible, the rules were tossed out the window, and exceptions would be made in the name of expedience.
Then when you take a sick day and they want to let you go, they forget all of the things they told you, and say things like "you're performance has really fallen off lately, you've been submitting incomplete files to underwriting..." and they know that you cant really afford to hire a lawyer and fight it.
Best part of that was they tried to block my unemployment and the State hammered them. In the decision handed down they were told that "generalizations without any specific evidence" were not "acceotable forms of proof" and also that "it seemed" to the Deptartment of Job and Family Services "that the employer was attempting to compile documentation post ipso facto to support a decision which was pre-determined". So, that was awesome.
Also, with my last physical paycheck, somehow only the stub got mailed to me, so I had to go to the office and pick up my last check (and of course, I had to wait until the next week, which caused some heartburn with the bills I had set up on auto pay). The HR person I spoke to (smaller company, less than 100 employees) told me that she saw the Sales manager who didnt like me (he was the kind of guy who thought going to church on Sunday meant he could be the douchiest of douch bros the other 6 days of the week) fiddling with the checks the week before, but she didnt think anything of it. Essentially, he pulled my check off of the stub just to screw with me and make things more difficult. Again, not worth hiring a lawyer.
So, if you've never had a bad job like this, just be grateful
|1 year 23 weeks ago||sure, sounds great||
if you have a good job with a good company and a boss who isn't a dick. Some of us don't have that luxury (I do now, but Ive been at jobs where you feel like any absence at all could lead to your ouster. I've seen it happen. Hell, it happened to me, and they laid me off the day after I took my 3rd sick day in 4 years, knowing that I was saving for a wedding 5 months in the future)
So yeah, yeah, we're looking for a gold star. Maybe you just need to be thankful you haven't had the pleasure of having to work in such an environment.

grip it and rip it. He's become waaaaay too technical over the years, thinking he should be able to control the golf ball the way we can when we have controllers in our hands. It's just not possible. He's thinking too much, trying to be too perfect. He just needs to go out there and "Nuke LaLoosh" it. One of the best things my golf coach ever told me was that I needed to stop "paralysis by analysis" trust my game and "see ball, hit ball". ESPECIALLY with the short game. The short game is more of a feel than anything else. If you're specnding too much time in between your own ears, you'll be spending a lot of time swearing after chunked shots.
He should ease up and try and have some fun. Quit worrying about the major record. He has enough money to last 100 lifetimes. He should go out there and play with "house money" because at least then if he shoots an 82, he can have a sense of humor about it.

well sonny, let me tell ya a story about Chris Floyd, all everything fullback and destroyer of worlds. Loved him because I was a blocking (slow,fat) TE when I played and I always gravitated toward guys who gave themselves up for the betterment of the team, the team, the team. Chris Floyd was one helluva fullback and watching him blow dudes up was always a good time.

We had to explain to her that those ladies were in their "office"
