If Im married to Giselle and there are things on that phone that could be embarrassing or damaging to her, there's no way on Gods green Earth I'd give that phone up to ANYBODY, consequences be damned. I know that in theory all they care about is the NFL stuff, and the rest of it is protected or whatever, but thats only in a court of law. If something gets leaked illegally into the court of public opinion, it doesnt make a damned bit of difference how it ended up in public.
What a shitshow
|18 hours 45 min ago||I grew up on an Apple Farm||
one of the "farm trucks" was an '82 Chevy LUV truck. Starting when I hit 14 or so, my Dad used to bring it to our back door every night and ask me to go park it up in the barn for him. I'd usually be gone for about a half hour, since there were 600 acres available for joyriding. It had a 5 speed and a 1.8 liter Isuzu diesel engine. Went from 0-60...eventually. And I hope to buy another some day.
Literally, one day it got out run by a Deere. It was THAT slow

my rant wa not directly related to the situation at FHH and I interjected it where it may not necessarily belong because as I was reading through the comments about charter schools and politicians etc etc my blood proessure started rising, and this has been something on my mind for some time, so I figured I'd let it fly.
But, you are correct.

people my age and older like to bitch about how stupid kids are these days. How selfish Milennials are etc etc, and yet those same people dont support schools while in city after city there is at least one shiny (relatively) new sports arena built on the backs of taxpayers at the request of billionaires. Of course they're stupid, you closed their schools and took their (likely outdated) books! (just kidding kiddos, dont get upset, im working towards a greater good here)
Seriously, people have to wonder about this kind of crap? How is this possible? Why do we let our politicians be bought and sold by corporations like chattel? Everyone says the system is broken, yet no one seems to ever be able to do anything about it.
If anyones got any ideas, Im all ears. We cant just let this country get run into the ground.
|1 week 20 hours ago||I remember that color well||
because I had a '92 Cavalier in the very same color. Bought it used, and they had the typical GM rotting floorboard allows water to seep in issue, so when I got that car (It had been parked for about a year) there was moss growing on the INSIDE of the windows because with the moisture and the heat of the summer the car had basoically truned into a terrarium.
Oh yeah, it also had an aluminum head. The problem with the aluminum heads was that if they'd get too hot, they'd warp, and not even replacing the head gasket would help. I remember being stuck in traffic in that POS, watching the temperature gauge climb towards the ionosphere, and turning the heat on even though it was 95 degrees outside to try and keep it running long enough to escape whatever traffic jam I was in and put more coolant in.
When I took it to the junkyard, I asked if I could push the crusher button on it, but insurance and safety and blah blah blah

|2 weeks 13 hours ago||Gerald White||
was my first favorite Wolverine. My best friend in Elementary school (in Ohio) was also a U of M fan, and he had one of the old Champion M jerseys that had "MICHIGAN" emblazoned across the front, but otherwise looked just like game day jerseys (survivors of the 80's you may remember these). He had #23 because he loved Jamie Morris (didnt' everyone?)
I wanted one of those jerseys so, so badly. Living in Ohio made them pretty tough to come by. At Christmas that year, my Aunt and Uncle tried to get one for me, but they weren't willing to drive to AA from Sterling Heights to get one, so I got my very first piece of licensed M gear, a sweatshirt with the seal.
Finally, the next summer, we spent a week up at Sleeping Bear, Mackinac, Charlevoix, Torch Lake etc, and on the way back to Grandma's in Royal Oak we stopped in AA at Moe's. I ended up with Gerald White's #22, which was fine by me, because back then I played fullback in Pop Warner.
Cool story bro
|2 weeks 16 hours ago||ok here is the math||
tax (8%) - 128
dealer "documentation" fee- $175 (they showed it to me the previous day)
title/plates - $42.50
So when I offered $1800 "out the door" I was not offering more than the advertised price. Also, keep in mind this was a car I determined the day before was worth $2k to me, so I wasn't trying to negotiate for every last dime. At the time it seemed about the best I'd be able to do for the money I wanted to spend and actually get to keep some of my planned budget in the bank long enough to pay other bills with, so I was ok with that

|2 weeks 17 hours ago||totally weird when I bough my car||
the first day I went to look the sticker said $2500, and their first offer was 3k including title and fees and tax and whatnot. After checking the carfax and talking to the mechanic who filed 32 service records, I told them I could go to 2k total. They came back at $2500 and we parted ways for the day.
Next day, I was still thinking about the car and went back on their website. i was considering calling the dealer back and upping my offer to $2200. On the website, I noticed that the price had dropped overnight from $2500 to $1600. I called the dealer and verified it was the same car. And he says "now we can do the 2k you offered, out the door. do you want it now?" I said sure, but Ill only pay $1800, I had to spend some money last night on Thomas the Tank Engine playsets. Dude paused for a minute, probably annoyed that I was still chipping away at him, but I got it (also, it WAS month end, definitely helped. Im no wizard, nor do I claim to be)

big car community there, lots of advice and articles
|2 weeks 17 hours ago||cool story time||
For most of my life Ive driven "beaters" (for lack of a better term). What I mean is a car I buy outright that might need a wrench turned here or an alternator swapped there, keep them for a couple years and repeat. Recently, I sold the only vehicle I ever had a payment on, a 2003 F-150, that had been paid off for close to 5 yrs (bought it used. Never buy new!)
Anyhow, Im scanning Craigslist and Auto trader and the local fishwrap classifieds and here is a piece of advice you may or may not want to incorporate into your own search. I found I had more luck dealing with a dealer than a private seller.
On the face this seems odd, as dealers would upsell their mothers if they're given the chance, but let me explain my reasoning. I had 2 main reasons for this (and if things hadnt worked, I wouldve tried another dealer, or gone back to the drawing board). This isnt meant to be gosepl set in stone, more "suggestive". First thing- most dealers just turn and sell the vehicles they take in on trade (especially if theyre over 100k on the odometer) to a wholesaler or auction and make a couple hundred a unit and dont deal with whatever problems they might have. However, there are some dealers out there (you can find them) that will keep a select few of their traded in vehicles and sell them off of their lot. Generally these are the "better" trades that either have a higher resale, or are in pretty good shape. For the most part, if a dealer thinks the car might be a lemon that could end up in negative press they'll jettison it, but if they think its decent enough (from a low price high mileage car perspective), they will keep it and try to see if they can make a grand or so. Lots of times you'll get a free carfax too.
The second reason you may want to see what a dealer has on the wholesale lot is because instead of having to bum a ride of a friend or realtive to go look at a car 20 minutes away only to find out the reason there was no picture of the right rear quarter panel in the ad was because there was no right rear quarter panel, and having wasted all that time, you can go to one place and see 5-10 cars all at once and increase your odds of finding something decent before youre friends start ducking your calls.
Now, the dealer is going to try and make a few hundy off you, and they may say they cant deal with you too much because their margins are already slim, but you can still make an offer. I find the "Ill give you xxx, out the door, including tax title and plates" the best angle. It helps make their silly dealer fees vanish in a hurry.
3 weeks ago, I did exactly this after selling my truck, and I ended up with a 2003 Taurus with 117k on the clock. The car is as loaded as Taurus' got in 2003, and I paid $1800 for it, from a dealer, who had the price listed as $2500.
So, do with this info whatever you like. Merely relaying whats worked for me in the past

Just like no one gave a shit about drinking and driving until there was enough money behind MADD to make politicians nervous, so it will be here. The golden rule is whoever has the money (or stands to make the most) makes the rules, or is at least keenly interested in how they're worded when they are made.
The system is bought and paid for, and we're all screwed.

|23 weeks 6 days ago||in a perfect world, sure||
unfortunately, in the real world, there often come times where even though there is a method of operations in place, and "service level agreements" that we all must adhere to, management will tell you to ignore those agreements in an effort to improve their bottom line. My example came from my time in the mortgage industry where I was a loan processor. Generally we had to have certain items for a file to be submitted to underwriting (paystubs, W-2's, signed disclosures), but at the end of the month, when the sales managers were pushing to try and make their numbers as shiny as possible, the rules were tossed out the window, and exceptions would be made in the name of expedience.
Then when you take a sick day and they want to let you go, they forget all of the things they told you, and say things like "you're performance has really fallen off lately, you've been submitting incomplete files to underwriting..." and they know that you cant really afford to hire a lawyer and fight it.
Best part of that was they tried to block my unemployment and the State hammered them. In the decision handed down they were told that "generalizations without any specific evidence" were not "acceotable forms of proof" and also that "it seemed" to the Deptartment of Job and Family Services "that the employer was attempting to compile documentation post ipso facto to support a decision which was pre-determined". So, that was awesome.
Also, with my last physical paycheck, somehow only the stub got mailed to me, so I had to go to the office and pick up my last check (and of course, I had to wait until the next week, which caused some heartburn with the bills I had set up on auto pay). The HR person I spoke to (smaller company, less than 100 employees) told me that she saw the Sales manager who didnt like me (he was the kind of guy who thought going to church on Sunday meant he could be the douchiest of douch bros the other 6 days of the week) fiddling with the checks the week before, but she didnt think anything of it. Essentially, he pulled my check off of the stub just to screw with me and make things more difficult. Again, not worth hiring a lawyer.
So, if you've never had a bad job like this, just be grateful
|23 weeks 6 days ago||sure, sounds great||
if you have a good job with a good company and a boss who isn't a dick. Some of us don't have that luxury (I do now, but Ive been at jobs where you feel like any absence at all could lead to your ouster. I've seen it happen. Hell, it happened to me, and they laid me off the day after I took my 3rd sick day in 4 years, knowing that I was saving for a wedding 5 months in the future)
So yeah, yeah, we're looking for a gold star. Maybe you just need to be thankful you haven't had the pleasure of having to work in such an environment.

He's thinking too much, trying to be too perfect. He just needs to go out there and "Nuke LaLoosh" it. One of the best things my golf coach ever told me was that I needed to stop "paralysis by analysis" trust my game and "see ball, hit ball". ESPECIALLY with the short game. The short game is more of a feel than anything else. If you're specnding too much time in between your own ears, you'll be spending a lot of time swearing after chunked shots.

His offenses with the Rams were below average, his tenure with the Browns was an abomination (horrible playcalling, couldn't handle game management situations, tons of formation/procedural penalties, countless timeouts burned because it took too long for him to call a play, etc. etc) AND he only got the job because his Uncle Fritz was Mike Holmgren's DC in the past (cronyism is bad everywhere). simple assault is a class 5 (minor) misdemeanor, which doesn't require disclosure on applications while and domestic violence is a class two and does require disclosure in many instances, and as another poster said, those words paired together often make a hiring managers mind up for them before they bother vetting the details if the incident

Nice guy, knows some offensive football, knows how to utilize the talent on hand (except, oddly, Cam Newton when he was in Carolina...another reason for pause). Not really sure how he'd fare as a HC, his time was too short in Cleveland. On the plus side, he was humble enough to hire strong and experienced coordinators, and didnt hire underlings who would easily bow to his authority, which means he is not afraid to be challeneged if it is in the best interests of the team. On the minus suide, his best years as OC came with Norv Turner at his side (either as the HC or the OC). Not sure if thats causation or correlation
One point of order- 2007 was about the best season the Browns have had since they've come back. Went 10-6. 5 Pro-Bowlers (DA, Braylon, Kellen, JT and Cribbs.

|42 weeks 1 day ago||agreed on Niners dysfunction||
During Harbaughs first season (and beyond) everyone talked about the miraculous turnaround and Harbaugh got most of the credit. Problem was, most of the roster had been compiled before Harbaugh arrived and Baalke resented the fact that there was no mention of this in any story praising the quick turnaround of the franchise. I think Baalke's ego was damaged by this and I can also imagine JH acting as if he were the reason for it all, which likely rankled Baalke as well. Now I think Baaalke wants to prove that the Niners can sustain success without Harbaugh so he can garner some of the credit.

is some phenomenal knowledge. Thanks for sharing. I dunno, I'm certainly no Rockefeller, but I see it another way. Brandon was also at the helm while the product devolved to the point that it was rated so poorly. Credit him for realizing the need for a change I guess, but giving him credit for starting the comeback from the doldrums that he helped lead the company into seems like my Parents giving me ice cream for putting out the fire on the living room carpet that I started in the first place. But the fact that I dont know when the downturn started, nor do I know the specific dates of Brandon's tenure tells me that I should listen to those who know more than I do about the situation, since they would have already made this same point if there were anything to it.
tldr; I stand corrected
|43 weeks 4 days ago||regarding the Bacon quote||
about fans who ponied up for season tickets being upset about others being able to get in for a Coke...this is something that has plagued the Cleveland Browns for a number of years now. The Browns ask for season ticket deposits in the spring, before the draft. (and maybe even free agency). The loyalists who pony up the bread have often lamented the fact that the extreme cost covers 2 preseason "games", and then by the third or fourth home game they are surrounded in the stands by folks who have taken advantage of Stub Hub to get tickets at a significant discount.
I think this is the most damning thing about Brandon...he's supposed to be this business wizard and yet he can't even learn from the blueprint NFL fans have demonstrated time and again. You can't abuse your foundation in the pursuit of every last dime. Brandon has done enough to turn gameday into NFL-lite, I would have hoped he could have at least learned some lessons from NFL teams.
Oh, and wasn't Dominos in a death spiral before Brandon left and only began a resurgence once he was replaced? How did that fact get lost on so many people (full disclosure: including me. I knew Dominos was in a race to the bottom in the pizza wars with Brandon at the helm but I kept squashing that thought in my head because I was happy to have someone in charge who "got it". In one way or another we are all partially to blame. oh well, nothing left to do but root like hell and hope for the best (tm- every Browns fan ever)

and the Commish asks the lowest returning member from the previous season to pick a number between 1-12. The commish takes whatever number selected, and runs the random draft order generator that many times, and broadcasts the results of each drawing to each of us via email. Whatever the order is on whatever the prescribed number was (4th drawing, 7th drawing, whatever) is the order we end up with.
It actually works pretty well, insofar as this league is pretty competitive, and over the years loopholes have been exploited and repaired, and people eventually will find fault with every thing under the sun, but no one has any qualms with this system.

where fans at the game matter less and less to the financial well being of a team due to insane levels of television money, you would hope some team might eventually realize that they dont NEED to maximize ticket revenues anymore. Back in the day where maybe 2 games a year were on national TV and the large portion of a team's budget was made up by gameday receipts, finding the sweet spot in the ol' supply and demand curve was a good idea. Now, teams get so much from TV that the difference between $60 seats with no PSL fees and $85 seats with PSL's isn't worth it to be pricing your most dedicated fans out.
And the decision makers should also keep the players point of view in mind as well. What I mean is, what do they think makes more of a difference to a player on game day: Having 115,000 screaming fans helping a defense make a stand by making it impossible for an opposing offense to call a play, feeding off the fans' energy and using that to help spur them on to victory? Or, the knowledge that even though the stadium might be 25 percent empty, each person must be a "real" fan because they paid a hefty price of admission? Perhaps it'll be quiet enough in the near future someone might be able to ask during a timeout?

and while Sherman has a point for those people who actually believe the media when they imply that this gang nonsense had anything to do with getting cut, that isn't the reason he was cut. It makes a nice story for the media and gives them something to flap their gums about, but the reality is whe the Eagles signed DJax to his new contract, it was widely known the Eagles would be looking to restructure the contract well before it expired. This year, the Eagles wanted to re-structure, and DJax was apparently looking for a raise. The last time DJax wanted a raise, he dogged it so badly for so long that many of his teammates were unhappy with him. I'm sure this played into the Eagles thinking more than anything else.
And for Sherman to compare this to Riley Cooper only proves that Sherman is as much of a sheep here as anyone. Riley Cooper is an idiot. Full stop. However, the reality is that DJax's social circle had almost nothing to do with him getting cut. For Sherman to say it's not fair for DJax to be cut because of "gang ties" while Cooper isn't cut for the indefensible things he said perpetuates this lazy media story. So, to me, Sherman is the guy trying to prove to us all how dumb we are and how smart he is, which is ironic because he was dumb enough to be a willing sheep for the media.
For the record, I was of the opinion that the media blew Shermans post game comments after the NFC Champ. game WAAAAAY out of proportion. Again it was the lazy media looking for an easy story to fill column inches and airtime between the championship games and the Super Bowl. I never had a problem with Richard Sherman, but right now, I'm tired of hearing from him.

Harbaugh's personal assistant is Mick Lombardi, son of Mike Lombardi, who worked with LaCanfora at NFL Network. The whole time Lombardi was the "GM" of the Browns, LaCanfora ran articl after article puffing up his boy, and then tried a takedown of the Browns as soon as Lombardi was canned (when, not even a week before he was supportive of the Browns moves, a total flip-flop).
I'm sure Harbaugh wants more money. He was never coming to the Browns. It may have been a plan cooked up by Lombardi and Harbaugh to make Lombardi seem heroic to Jimmy Haslam (word is that toward the end, Lombardi and banner were trying to cut each other's throats to save themselves) and save his job with the Browns, while Harbaugh uses the levarage for a raise, while Jason LaCanfora gets the scoop.
In my opinion anything coming from laCanfora that is even slightly related to Mike Lombardi is pure hogwash.

seriously, Modell became majority owner in 1961. He fired Paul Brown in 1963. The Browns won the 64 NFL title with a team (led by Jim Brown) built largely by Paul Brown. Then he "fired" Jim freaking Brown. The next 30 years, zip. zilch. Nada. The, he took the team to Baltimore. Then the NFL granted the new Browns to Al Lerner, the guy who was unsuccessful in obtaining an NFL franchise for Baltimore when the league expanded with CAR/JAX, who also intorduced Modell to his Baltimore partners to work out a stadium deal on Lerners plane.
Seriously, you can tie everything bad that has ever happened to the Browns back to Art Modell. Burn in hell, Art Modell

a knee jerk job by Haslam. It has been in the works for a little while. Pettine is Haslam's choice, and Farmer was consulted via telephone (he was in Mobile). While Farmer hadn't been told he was in line for a promotion (allegedly), Haslam had already been discussing Banner's exit from the team with Banner a couple of weeks ago (again, rumor). The rumors of Lombardi being forced out have persited on Twitter for a couple of weeks at least. Apparently, he all but promised he could deliver McDaniels before Chud was let go, and, well, that didn't happen. Once that blew up in Lombardi's face, Haslam strted to get the idea that no one around the league has much respect for Lombardi, and that set things in motion.
|1 year 23 weeks ago||This is good news||
no snark intended. Today is a good day for Cleveland Browns fans. Lombardi and Banner could have been replaced with a bent 7 iron and a two-legged tripod and the Browns still would have performed addition by subtraction. Replacing them with actual, honest to God, know what they're doing in their roles people who have the respect of others around the league? Yahtzee! Scheiner and Farmer are both rising stars with a bullet, and I'm glad Haslam didn't futz around and risk losing them because he was worried that the mainstream media would make fun of him.
Rumor is Haslam never wanted Banner to begin with, but Banner was forced on him by the NFL. Ehh whatever, it's all revisionist history now, but at the end of the day, the Browns are better today than they were yesterday.
The only "negativity" you will see/hear about this will come from national media types who are "friends" with Lombardi. Of course they're going to have to take up for their boy. And not for nothing, but they all just lost a good source as well. So, there will be sreeches heard from the national level, plus everyone loves to swing at low hanging fruit.
Good luck Lombardi, maybe your pal Bill Belichik will give you a job in New England like he did after Al Davis fired you. Oh wait, not even Belichik would hire you, BECAUSE YOU SUCK

was definitely the high water mark of the year for me.
Although, as a Browns fan, I must say when they hired Rob Chudzinski in January, that was a good moment as well. He is obviously building something for the Browns and will surely lead this team to a sustained run of successful football. Sure the first year was bumpy, but with the way the Front office traded away picks and players to stockpile assets for 2014, that was to be expected, especially when having to play QB roulette most weeks. Some people have said he might be"on the hot seat" but only an complete and total moron would fire a guy less than a year after hiring him.

I had the head re-sprayed so that I would not have that color combination anywhere near my golf bag. And I havent put even 1% as much into Michigan football as Taylor Lewan, so it does seem rather unlikely. However, just because they may have wanted to ameliorate their story by adding these "details" it may not change the fact that there could be some substance to this.

I can make it from Columbus to Grand Blanc in about 3:45, and thats 50 miles north of AA. 3 hours from AA to CBus, tops.

box wine and watching Mount Union lose to Whitewater. I was rooting from Mount Union because I've had a number of friends attend class (*note:not graduate from, lol) there, and I always had a good time when I went to visit Alliance. Why anyone stays in Alliance permanently, though, is beyond me.

if there's any construction on 23 between the MI/OH border and Grand Blanc? I checked the MDOT website but am not seeing any updates. I dont want to take the long way around through the D, but I'd rather drive 260 miles in 4 hours than 215 in 5 because of delays.
Happy Holidays everyone!

that at least 3 if not 4 of the top five picks are going to be QBs. Especially now with the rookie contract slotting, QB needy teams are more willing than ever to jump up for their guy, and with the rule changes the past 10 years or so, QB is more important than ever in the NFL.
Last year was a bit of an anomaly, and this year the media has been pushing QB depth for so long that they're going to build up 4 guys whether they deserve it or not. Their narrative has already changed quite a bit since mariota dropped out, and Murray and Mettenberger cot hurt. Now Blake Bortles is a top 5 guy? I'm skeptical

and bravo to you for all your hard work in getting this worthwhile project up and running. I grew up on a farm and I learned a lot about life through all of the work I had to put in to help my Dad out. Don't sell yourself short, it is most definitely not "just a garden". You are teaching those kids about patience & the benefits of hard work while at the same time helping bridge the generation gap. This is no small undertaking. You should be extremely proud of your effort and achievement. People like you make it easy to be proud to say I am a Michigan Wolverine fan.

a Browns fan like me, I wasn't sure if you saw Jackson's takedown of Eric Mangini from a few months back in Scene Magazine?
Interesting story, albeit a bit one sided. Basically blames all the ills of those Browns teams on Mangini being a control freak. Still, some interesting nuggests on how things work in the NFL.
