Some mother's day schadenfreude: Completing the hat-trick, news reports are beginning to trickle in of Titus Young's third arrest this week. I think it is safe to say, however, that this has quickly moved out of the realm of schadenfreude and into the category of just sad. |

Completely agree with you. If a Ducks player did this to a Wings player everyone in hockeytown would be irate. I actually love Abby as a player despite his Sparty roots, and I am certainly a Wings homer, but I do believe Abdelkader left his feet - which is a big no-no these days. As for Abdelkader being a border-line AHL player, I'll respectfully disagree. He can be a big impact player for us when he is on his game. Bottom line is losing Abdelkader and DeKeyser could spell our doom. The wings simply were not that good to begin with, which should be clear to anyone who has followed them this season. Losing two guys certainly won't help our chances. |

My only problem with the "drunk sorority girl" stereotype is the stereotyping of Greek life in general. I know this board is generally anti-Greek life, but that stereotype is just not accurate - as all stereotypes are not a good portrayal of groups. There are plenty of undergrads not associated with Greek life who overdrink and don't make it to the games or only show up at half-time; the problem is not limited to drunk sorority girls or drunk fraternity guys. And there are sections of Greek life who comprise the most vocal portion of the student section. A lot of times they are the ones in the front row cheering loudest and celebrating with the players after the game. |

I hate to advocate the Freep, but they actually had a pretty cool article on Spike Friday (didn't know his name was Michael until I read that, or that he got his nickname because he always wore his baseball cleats everywhere). It discussed how he had only one offer (from App State) and how he didn't really believe his coach when he told Spike Michigan was interested in him. I don't think we are where we are without Spike. It's easy to forget that a lot of these guys are only freshman, they're really going to blossom. |

100% agree. My friend and I were actually talking about this at the game Sunday. The atmosphere would benefit tenfold if we could even get some Rage seats behind each basket. The atmosphere suffers greatly from the large majority of the lower bowl - the so-called blue hairs who don't get much into the game. It's pathetic that the lower bowl was half empty during the rededication Sunday. If he were in the Wings organization he probably would have been playing in Grand Rapids the last couple years; you can't really blame him for some of his play the last couple years as he was forced into the NHL because of the lack of talent in Montreal. This will be a shitty day if Brady loses. |
| 18 weeks 12 min ago | Positives |
On the bright side, I think it is a testament to this team that we could play that awfully yet still be in a position to win at the end. Everyone knew the B1G would be a gauntlet. Beilein will be able to use this game as a teaching point, and we will get better as the season marches on. |
| 18 weeks 16 min ago | We lost entirely due to |
We lost entirely due to execution. There were endless opportunities for us to take hold of the game, the young team just couldn't do it. Stauskas & Robinson having their worst games of their young careers has nothing to do with coaching. |

Exactly what I was thinking. GRIII is critical to our teams success. Also, Stauskas? |

Tootoo is going to be an interesting player to watch this year. A lot of hockey fans don't like him, but he's a great guy so I'll be rooting for him to be at least a productive player. |

Nyquist in Grand Rapids is a bit of a head-scratcher for me. Granted, they can call him up at any time, but in my opinion he should be practicing with the Wings. The Red Wings are no longer a Cup-threat and are, for the first time in a long time, at a bit of a rebuilding stage. So why not get your top young star playing at the top-level? That said, I fully expect him to be called up relatively soon. Feels good to have hockey back! |

1:30 game on a Sunday certainly helps your cause. Shouldn't be too many people drunk off their gourds that early on a Sunday. But maybe I am underestimating those folk down south. |

| 18 weeks 1 day ago | Grantland |
Grantland is the best thing to happen to sports journalism in a long time. Michael Weinreb (Michigan-disdain aside) wrote some excellent pieces on the Penn State saga and generally writes really interesting pieces on college football. And occasional contributor Wright Thompson is one of my favorite writers around. |

"Anyone trashing the decision doesn't understand that there things other than money that might be important." Well said, Brian. Not that I can compare Lewan's situation to my own, but I honestly feel that there isn't a thing in the world I would trade my 4 years at Michigan for. It's truly a once in a lifetime experience that will mean far more than my bank account ever will. My guess is that a lot of Lewan's critics never got a big-university, college town experience. |

I can't figure out Pittsburgh. Lose to a fairly lousy Rutgers team a couple days ago and now are killing a good Georgetown team. OSU looking like mediocre at best again. Will be tough playing in Columbus but if we play our game I think we should win Sunday. |

I think I might root for Notre Dame if the national championship was between ND and Ohio State. But that is just about the only scenario in which I would root for them. I put 35 confidence points on Bama. Not because I am that confident in Bama, but because I don't even want to picture the media reaction should Notre Dame win. |

Discovering that you could carry an alcoholic beverage wherever you go was just like being a kid on Christmas morning. Don't think I left the hotel without one. I cannot say it resulted in a pleasant drive back to Ann Arbor, though. |
| 19 weeks 4 days ago | Not Play-Calling |
I'll stay away from the coaching commentary. Anyone else feel like the karma of the game/ momentum was just completely screwed up by that bad first down call on the measurement? I don't know if the game would've resulted any differently, but that bad call fired up SC. And it was right when the momentum pendulum was starting to turn our way. |

10-6 is a pretty damn good season in the NFL. Expectations can be way too high for teams that have been spoiled with success (although maybe my expectations are just so low as a result of being a Lions fan?). I remember when people were calling for Tom Coughlin's head in New York before he won 2 super bowls. |

As others have suggested, it's honestly worse than a typical Thurs/Fri/Sat night in Ann Arbor because all of the students are gone. And I would agree that Main Street would be the place to go. The undergrad scene on South U pretty much shuts down over Christmas break. That said, I have been to some great house parties for NYE in Ann Arbor, but I'm sure that's not what you're looking for. |
