Date Title Body
45 weeks 5 days ago Family

There's just a sense that he was part of the Michigan 'Family' which is so cool to me.

I love how he switched positions, earned respect, and from all accounts did everything the 'right way'.  And that respect earned him some amazing compliments and cool little stories at a tragic time.

Sad to see a life pass at anytime, but especially one so young.

I hope God blesses him.

46 weeks 2 days ago All of These

There are so many more memorable individual pictures from this past year than I can really remember in the ten or so years since I've moved to Ann Arbor.

The only other clear cut memories for me were all of the pictures after The Game in 03' and the pictures from the celebration after the 02' Washington game.

Thanks everybody for posting these pictures!

51 weeks 10 hours ago Misspoke

By apology I should've said explanation.  When he explained that he loved the rivalry and would've been proud if LTT was a Buckeye and did it.

All I'm saying is that I think he's been sufficiantly and appropriately been chastised for his mistake.  He deleted his twitter.  And he's being made fun of on this blog, which I have no problem with.  I just don't think there's a need to take it past that point like some people were saying needed to happen.

He can now go away from my life and live his own miserable one as an obscure ohio fan (they all live miserable lives) whom I hope to never see or hear about again.

I promise to step off the soap box now... I just didn't like the tone this thread was starting to take.

51 weeks 10 hours ago Punishment

I'm going to go ahead and say that deleting his twitter and having a hate thread about him on a college sports blog is right on par with the punishment he deserves.  He said something extremely stupid, but there's no way it was serious in any manner.  He made a very poor joke in very poor taste.  That's it.

If you've never done something similarly stupid, go ahead and google bomb his name and whatever else you guys want to do.  But it's really sad that some people on this blog are so determined to make his life miserable.  I guarentee you it's already bad enough right now.

51 weeks 10 hours ago Are you serious?

The internet does not forget?  Give the man a break seriously.  He was really really really stupid with what he said but seriously?

Can we please not try and ruin a guy's life?  Everybody does incredibly stupid things in their life.  This is far from the worst thing I've ever heard someone do.

As long as he deleted it and apologized, let him live his life.  No need to go and ruin a guy's life.

51 weeks 10 hours ago This Thread

This thread needs to be taken down in my opinion.  This man did an incredibly stupid thing, we've all given him all the shit that he deserved, but there's no need to try and ruin a guy's life for all of this.  He deleted it, there's no need for people to be saying things that have been said on this thread.

Everyone makes mistakes, even grown men.  This is a mistake that warrented us making fun of him and calling him stupid and all of the regular things we do when the ohio stereotype is played out in real life.

But the guy is a real person, and I just don't like the fact that this could linger for him.  It was a tweet, it was really really stupid.  He deleted and apologized.  Lets please all move on and let him live his life.

1 year 1 day ago Kent State's Head Coach

Scott Stricklin is the guy Michigan fans should hope and expect to get.  They guy knows how to recruit and develop stud pitchers.  And he can recruit with the best of them.  In a lot of ways he is kind of like Maloney.  I'm not sure about Maloney's track record at BSU before he came over other than he had a #1 overall pick in the MLB draft... but Stricklin just finished winning his fourth straight MAC tournament.

The last time a coach won a MAC tournament other than him was Coach Boss, who then took the job at MSU.  Stricklin can recruit and develop talent.  He is the guy all Michigan fans should be cheering for to get the job!  I was pleasantly surprised when he didn't get the OSU job a few years ago.

1 year 4 days ago Jaron Stokes

Hopefully Jaron Stokes can help mentor him in some way.  BGSU is probably a good fit for him, they'll get him eligible and ready for 2013 I hope!

BG has turned a few JuCo recruits into real talent over the past couple of years, and I'm sure Greg Brown can do the same.

1 year 4 days ago #12

The #12 was just for the year 2012 I believe because that DT we just offered got the same letter and tweeted something along the lines of... "I think I got a letter Shane was supposed to get".

1 year 6 days ago SuperSim

The SuperSim is sooooo bad and that's why I can't stand to play NCAA 12.  I've been an OC for Michigan for four years in NCAA.  And the clock management issues/missed extra point rates are both so bad.  I don't understand how EA still hasn't fixed it after so many years :/

1 year 1 week ago In-State Kids...

The roster is littered with in-state kids... like it should be...

But I think maybe coach maybe fooled himself by believing the Ann Arbor area is always filled with top notch recruits.

When he came to Michigan Zach Putnam was a local legend and the rest of that roster was filthy.  I really believe that was a once-in-a-generation group... That Ann Arbor Braves team was stacked from about a decade ago with Putnam, Avila, and a few other top ballplayers.

Just a thought.

1 year 5 weeks ago The cover is very sweet

The cover is very sweet looking!  I am a fan of both RG3 and Barry... just kinda looks a little off that's all.

1 year 5 weeks ago RG3's Head

Is it just me or is there a bit of a bobblehead effect with RG3 and is head?  It looks really disproportionate to his body.

Video Game people always photoshop those pictures so oddly, I can remember in NCAA Baseball 07 (I think) when the U. of Texas "T" on the batting helmet was no where near where it was supposed to be.

1 year 10 weeks ago Woah.

That was amazing... I'm pretty sure I'm going to go show this to my girlfriend now.  I think she's actually going to be able to understand this.

Nice job!

1 year 10 weeks ago Scoreboard 'maize'

Shouldn't the 'maize' on the brand new scoreboard tell us what Dave Brandon is thinking?  Obviously that thing looks like the 'maize' basketball uniforms we've been wearing and is a pretty good indication of the maize we will be looking at for all sports moving forward.

Am I right?

1 year 20 weeks ago Thanks

I guess I'll wait until after the game and zoom in on pictures because I'm just having a hard time seeing them even when there are close ups.

I'm still a fan of stamping big old Roses on the shoulder pads.

1 year 20 weeks ago Question on Wisconson Jerseys

Are they not actually wearing the 'Rose-Pedel' numbers on their jerseys?  If they are it is literally not noticable.  I'm kind of dissapointed I keep looking for a difference on the jersey and I just don't see it.

Am I just crazy?

1 year 22 weeks ago What a crazy game.

There is so much bad football being played to begin this game right now.  It is brutal.  And holy cow is it just me or does Dan Hawkins sound/look like Frank Caliendo?  Dan Hawkins and Pam Ward are almost impossible to listen to!

But at least it's still cool that Wayne State is on ESPN2.

1 year 33 weeks ago Awesome piece...

This is why I love mgoblog... anyone who reads this post has to like Michigan... at least a little bit.

Go Blue!

1 year 40 weeks ago Bowling Green also has a new look....

Another MAC school also changed... this is the first year they've fully transitioned to the new logo as compared to the old one they used when they won the hockey national championship back in 1984.

Here's a commercial showing off the BG uni's...

I figure not too many people will be interested... but just in case lol.

1 year 51 weeks ago I wish I was good at all this

I wish I was good at all this photoshop and .gif stuff.....

That being said... anyone wanna stamp Jim Tressel's face onto this guy right here in this video?

2 years 4 weeks ago News Like This?

I will never ever neg anything like this.  If we want to make 100 posts about someone recovering from cancer it will never get old!

Phil Brabbs started my love of the Wolverines, he was from my dad's hometown and we had just moved to Ann Arbor the week before the Washington game.  I remember as a kid thinking it was soooo cool that some guy from Midland just hit the game-winning field goal.

I really hope everything goes great for him.  He's truely taken a scary thing and made nothing but positive out of it with the whole 'Dominating Cancer' stuff.

He is what a Michigan Man is all about!

2 years 9 weeks ago I Love This Thread

It's awesome seeing all these fans.  Goes to show you that all Michigan fans are not all Detroit fans.  It's amusing because if we were on any other blogsite you guys would all hate each other.  But we gotta play nice because we all love us some Brady Hoke and Lloyd Brady =)

2 years 19 weeks ago My Bad

I didn't mean to spew my annoyance about this at you... I copied and pasted that remark about the texting from another thread.

2 years 19 weeks ago Major?

I mean... I don't know how old you are... but 234 text messages to 45 prospective athletes by one coach?  I know people in college probably send and recieve at least 100-200 texts a day if not more.

Thats... 5.2 texts to each person? Over how much time I wonder? And some probably responded so there was a quick conversation...

To be fair... I'd probably say on an average day I send about... 150-200 texts a day?  It's really not a lot at all.

I know it's illigal... but it's not exactly like texting is an obvious thing that Mike Leach would definitely know about, especially if it's only 234 texts by one coach.  If that's the reason we didn't hire him I'd be concerned about our program/fan base/decision makers.

To cross anyone off for something like this is stupid.  I'm not a Leach guy, but goodness... this is just stupid.

2 years 19 weeks ago Agreed.

I'm not on the Leach bandwagon...

Just stating that the texting thing isn't a big deal IMO... in no way should that ever be "Major".

2 years 19 weeks ago I Want To Neg

I had to hold off on negging this... because I was really just wanting to neg his face... then I realized he didn't write this. lol.

2 years 19 weeks ago Major?

I <3 this post.  Thank you TPryor for giving us your research and skillz!

I don't get why anyone would not like this thread lol.  With all the CC business isn't a little break from reality what we all need?

2 years 20 weeks ago Good News?

You guys want to be happy???

Right here kids.  Look right here.

2 years 21 weeks ago Lets not forget...

Any school that taught John Wooden how to play the game of basketball automatically gets +100 in the "tradition" department.

2 years 21 weeks ago Really...

Stay classy Ron Burgundy...

2 years 24 weeks ago coolrom.com

place has so many emulators and such... I don't know if it has any legit ps1 versions...

But it got me pokemon red on my macbook for winter break last year... me and my roommate went back to our own hometowns for break and had a compitition to see who could have better pokemon when we got back.

And btw NBA 2k11 is currently killing me with the finals stuff.  The "My Player" is too awesome to pass up.

2 years 25 weeks ago Underdogs

Underdogs still win big games when they have a great coach.

I'm not asking Michigan to win every rivalry game while the team is young...

But 0-6 against OSU and MSU is unacceptable.  End of story.  No excuses.  There's a reason why we are the leaders and best.... we've never let this kind of thing happen.

2 years 25 weeks ago Woohoo!

Bowling Green!

2 years 25 weeks ago To communist football...

That is one stupid arguement... lol...

Oregon's team has been sitting in a MUCH better position than Stanford's for a while... so the fact Harbough even got one from them in that four year stretch... is a great coaching feat...

Harbough actually occasionally won a game he wasn't supposed to win at Stanford... actually he did it quite frequently... with a lot less talent... something that Rich Rod has done... what?  Once against Wisconson in 07'?

And Harbough was the beginning of USC's decline... kicking them in the arse when they were #1... that was such a huge victory... it showed that USC was vulnerable for the first time in a while.  Harbough wins big games.  He did it at Michigan once, and he can do it again...

About a decade ago OSU hired an Ohio guy that promised big things because he understood OSU football... maybe it's time Michigan did the same...

2 years 25 weeks ago 3rd String

Our 3rd string quarterback is Devin Gardner... That's how kick ass our qb position is right now.

2 years 27 weeks ago Kentucky vs. Louisville

That would be an awesome under-the-radar matchup during bowl season.

Imagine playing Notre Dame during a bowl game?  That's pretty much what that will be like in the state of Kentucky.  That would be pretty awesome.

2 years 27 weeks ago BooBoo

Boo Boo Gates is the man!

2 years 28 weeks ago Colorado?

Would a cash strapped, average institution like Colorado really be an upgrade over a place like State?

I dislike State as much as the next person on here, but Dantonio seems to have a pretty good track record around these parts and I don't see him leaving until Mr. Tressel leaves osu... I think he's going to hold out for that job.  Unless a Tennessee does come along.

But not Colorado. lol.

2 years 29 weeks ago We could do that too...

"Does...

4 conference championships in 7 years, 3 Top 10 finishes, and 2 BCS bowl appearances (both wins, however he left before the second bid) hold any water with you then?"

It doesn't hold any water with me because he was in the BIG LEAST.  Does anyone remember when the conference had to play all their games on Wednesday and Thursdays to get any national attention?  And Louisville and Rutgers actually somehow bloated to the #1 and #2 spots?  That conference is nothing but 7 completely mediocre football programs with no football tradition and 1 school that had Pat White and Steve Slaton for a few years.

Michigan could win 4 conference championships in 7 years if we got to play UConn-esque teams over and over every year... and the Voters always will put the Big East conference champion in the top 10 just to get a tv rating for the bowl games... Give me a break.  The Big East is the worst AQ conference in the nation.  The MWC is a better conference... albeit the best teams are all leaving for greener pastures... and by greener I mean more money.

2 years 29 weeks ago Upset or two?

By saying they still have an upset or two left in the tank... that would imply that they actually have given us an upset win in recent history... I mean unless 08 Wisconson or 08 Minnesota count still....

2 years 29 weeks ago Great Post

I find posts like these to be really interesting... if only we could make the pictures a little smaller.

Thanks for the information!  And I lol'd at the girls dress code because it's such a northeast thing with girls right now.  Every girl dresses like that.

2 years 31 weeks ago Jim Abbott T-Shirt

I found the Jim Abbott Michigan baseball shirt that they gave out at Ray Fisher when they retired his number at the salvation army this summer!

I wear the shirt at least once a week down here at my college, and I love talking about him every chance I get!

He's embodies what a Michigan Man is.  And why the people down in Columbus will never be as special as the men they make in Ann Arbor.

End of story.

2 years 32 weeks ago Fair Enough

But if he doesn't beat OSU this year or next he will have lost to OSU 4 years in a row and will be 1-3 or 0-4 vs. MSU.

As a Michigan football fan that should be the end of story.

2 years 32 weeks ago Anyone Else Think This...?

Michigan Football is built upon beating our rivals.  We hold it next to our heart that we've dominated the OSU and MSU rivalries....

Well Rich Rod is 0-3 against MSU and 0-2 against OSU.  He needs to beat OSU this year or next and has to beat MSU next year.

If he doesn't win 2 of those 3 games then I think he has to be done.  End of story.  You can't lose to OSU 8 years in a row, no matter the coach.  Can you?

2 years 32 weeks ago Who are the "better teams"?

Wisconson, Iowa, and Michigan are the only potential "better teams" they'll play.

TCU still has to play the Air Force and Utah, both are ranked, and Utah could potentially be undefeated and a top ten team when that game happens.

I don't really see how OSU could jump an undefeated TCU team.  Maybe Boise, but all in all the Big Ten really isn't that good this year, and OSU doesn't have to play the second best team in the conference this year.

2 years 32 weeks ago I Will Support

I will support... but we HAVE TO, let me repeat, HAVE TO beat MSU next year and we have to beat OSU once in the next two meetings, either this year or next year.

Michigan football is built off of beating our rivals.  This is getting rediculous.

2 years 32 weeks ago To a Point

First off I totally agree with you.

All I know though is that Michigan has to.  Has to beat MSU next year and OSU either this year or next year.

2 years 33 weeks ago OSU?

Why does it only say Michigan has only four wins on OSU?  Did that shock anyone else?

2 years 35 weeks ago I'm Sorry

This is the last post I'll be posting on MGoBlog.  It's time for me to stop spending my time doing things like this and focus 100% on school and working to build my trust up with the Bowling Green fans.  Since I haven't been able to post on that site and apologize I'm going to use this as my place to go apologize.

I was just trying to have a little fun and prepare Michigan fans for the Bowling Green game this upcoming weekend.  It did not occur to me that anyone would be offended by my words, and I when I work I always work without bias to try and do the best job I can.  What I said was wrong and I really am sorry.

I have been volunteering in the Bowling Green Athletic Department for over a year and a half waiting for any job to come up.  I was given a minimum wage job working on game days at various events, and I have been very, very proud of that job.  I've been bragging whenever I could because it's always been my dream to work in an Athletic Department, no matter how big or small the role is.

I shouldn't of said what I said and I'm sorry.  It will never happen again.  I really hope the people at Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba read this because I never imagined what I wrote would end up tearing down what I've been trying to build up for the past year.

I've had fun on here but it's time to leave, and focus on being a student and worker.

You can read my blog about Bowling Green baseball if you guys want to see a little bit of the work I've been trying to put into this school.

2 years 35 weeks ago To BG Fans

I'm still a BG student, fan, and employee and I'll see you guys at various events while I continue to work for the athletic department.

I love BGSU and I love Ann Arbor too.   I am thankful that I get to participate at sporting events, it's not something I take for granted.

But lesson learned.  No more jokes coming from over here, I promise.

2 years 35 weeks ago lol.

Am I not allowed to still like Bowling Green?

2 years 35 weeks ago No Prediction

I don't think I should predict a score, but I think Devin Garnder will have a big day.  Lol.

For the good measure of rubbing it in a little bit, I'm predicting Michigan misses an extra point while Bryan Wright makes a field goal... that will be fun for the BG fan in me.

Although he's virtually a lock to kick at least one kickoff out of bounds, as he does that pretty much once a game, even when he played for Michigan if I remember correctly.

Personally I'd like to see Kamar Jordan get like 18 catches.  And have Denard run for like 200 yards.

2 years 35 weeks ago What's the injury?

Did they say anything about why?

2 years 35 weeks ago lol.

They ain't paying my bills, I'm paying all my bills to them!!!

My undergraduate degree is going to get me next to nothing without my graduate degree... which will probably not be at BGSU.

And I love Bowling Green, but when you grow up in Ann Arbor your whole life you gotta cheer for the team you've invested 18+ years to.  Ideally I want Bowling Green to go 12-0 every year... except when they pay the team from Ann Arbor.

Nothing about that makes me a traitor.  Maybe a "Wal-mart Wolverine" to those idiots from MSU... but I'm Go Blue through and through.

It'd be nice to see them demoted so they could actually... you know... win a game...

2 years 35 weeks ago FBS vs. Non-BCS FCS Schools

I find it interesting that the FCS schools are almost on the verge of being better football schools than most Non-BCS FBS schools.  It makes sense though and should've happened a long time ago.

A lot of FCS schools have a lot of things going for them now.  Better academics, better campus, and the chance now to compete with FBS schools.

In 25 years in my fantasy world I would like to see FBS and FCS combine and just become Division 1.  With it being a playoff like scenario.

Think March Madness on a whole new level.  Oh sweet Jesus.

2 years 35 weeks ago Thank You!

2 years 35 weeks ago Lame.

Was really hoping this was going to be about some stud found at the tryouts...

Does this kid really have a shot at ever kicking at Michigan?  Why would you need a 5'5" 4th string kicker?  Guessing it's probably because he went to Pioneer and had some connections.

2 years 36 weeks ago Don Nehlen

The next time someone from West Virginia whines and moans about Rich Rod leaving his alma mater to go coach at a more prestigous school make sure you mention Coach Nehlen and how West Virginia took him away from Bowling Green, where he was the head coach at the time.

Nehlen was a star quarterback in Bowling Green during the fifties then went as was an assistant coach at a bunch of different places (including Michigan) until landing the head coaching gig at Bowling Green.  He was there for eight years before West Virginia thought to steal him away.

2 years 36 weeks ago Dude.

2 years 36 weeks ago Only Complaint

Why is Georgia out of the MGoBlog top 25?  They absolutely steamrolled UL-L without A.J. Green and are going to get him back this weekend against South Carolina.

They looked really impressive.  I'd put them in and kick Pitt out personally.

Otherwise looking good!

2 years 36 weeks ago Why?

I guess from my point of view one big factor in the championship formula for teams is winning the first big game of the season.  For example OSU, Texas, LSU, USC, Alabama, and now Boise. They all have played huge, huge games at the beginning of the season and when they won it put them in the national eye and on the fast track to the national championship.

05: Texas beats OSU, never looked back.

06: OSU beat Texas, put them in drivers seat for NC game (lost to Fla.)

07: LSU beats Va Tech, loses two games but still ends up in Nat. Title game.  W/out that extra quality win do they end up in game still?

08: USC beats OSU, makes statement, sets themselves up with #1 ranking until the other OSU wins a wierd game up in Corvallis two Thursdays later.

09: Alabama beats VaTech in first game of season, makes mark on national scene.  Ends up in national championship game.

10: Boise beats VaTech, LSU beats UNC, OSU vs. Miami.  What are the chances Boise, LSU, or OSU/Miami makes the nat. championship game?

Conclusion?

VaTech is to season openers as tOSU is to national championship games.  Also, if you want to secure a spot in the national championship game you need to win a big out of conference game, because that's the most secure way into the championship game.

So... looking into the future...

2012: Michigan beats Alabama, earns #1 ranking and never looks back!

2012 National Champs baby!

2 years 37 weeks ago Saw Boise in Bowling Green

I saw Boise State last year when they traveled to Bowling Green.  They are a freaking event, up there with 'Strasmas' and things like that.  When they come to town EVERYONE comes out to see them and they all cheer for them.

Boise State filled a niche that was previously not filled.  They were the underdog that consistantly outplayed bigger teams with consistantly lesser ranked players.

Simply amazing.  I love it.

2 years 37 weeks ago What are YOU doing?

If Tate came in under Lloyd his career would've turned out just like Jason's did.  He grew up in a family that bred him to be a quarterback from the moment the sperm hit the overies.  He was as polished his freshman as most D-1 quarterbacks after two years.  That being said, preparation doesn't make him great.  There's only so much that can do for you.  Part of it is genetics, and while Tate was polished, he didn't have the skill set needed.

It was pretty obvious during the Iowa game Rich Rod wasn't a fan of Tate's... but Tate was literally his ONLY option.  Devin Gardener is a much more skilled player, and with the help of spring practice has been able to refine his talent to much better suit Rich Rod's system than Tate's talent ever was.

Tate should always be remembered positively by Michigan fans for helping bridge a gap that was the lowest talent level ever to step foot on campus in Ann Arbor.  But unfortunately his time (tentatively since Denard could get hurt and Devin really truely might not be ready) is up when it comes to being a consistant on-field contributer.  But he also could work harder from this point on and try to be a leader and impact this team off the field too.  I hope that's what he does.

I love Tate and I hope nothing but the best for him.  But what's the best for him isn't what's best for the on-field performance of Michigan.  It's just the flat out truth.

2 years 37 weeks ago I was just thinking that.

My roommate played hockey with him in high school and was super pumped because his first real PT was going to come against UConn (Mike Cox went to Avon Old Farms in Connecticut).

I couldn't believe I never saw him in there :(

Saw him play at Independance High (N.C.) when he was a freshman and sophomore in high school...

I lived in a small town and our team (Richmond Senior High) hadn't lost a home game in something like 71 games.  He came in as a 9th grader and took us out behind the barn and gave us a whooping.  We had won back to back state titles at that point... and he went on to win like three or four in a row.

He was simply incredible.

2 years 37 weeks ago Tradition

I just did a quick search of the helmet history... I was going to say they just need to wear the damn helmets Woody had them wear his whole career... but apparently as recently as 1967 they had red helmets...

You can find the helmet history here.

I still don't like it.  I think it's ruining The Game by making it a cash grab and wearing the jerseys for the Michigan game.  Wear the freaking jerseys against Miami.  Or find another adidas school.  Just not against us.

I just am ready to see this again.

2 years 37 weeks ago Disgrace.

Alright.  My feelings on Ohio State.  I want to beat them every year.  I hate it when they win.  And I love it when they lose.  As a school and program though, I respect that they are our rivals.  The rivalry is the greatest in sports.  I respect that they have a great thing going in Columbus right now and are the most consistant program in the Big 10 right now.

That being said.  It disgusts me that they choose to lessen The Game (or the game however you want to type it) by allowing nike to totally redesign their jerseys for our game two years in a row.

The Michigan v. Ohio State game is supposed to be the winged helmet vs. the buckeye stickers.  It's supposed to be a winged-Charles Woodson fighting with a David Boston who is covered in buckeye stickers.  It's what makes the game send chills down your back.

Nike tries to create tradition.  You can't create tradition overnight.  Tradition isn't supposed to be marketed.  This sucks.  I hate this so much.  Win or lose against OSU, I want them to be wearing their grey helmets with stickers on them.  I want the tradition.

Braylon Edwards website says this about his foundation... this is one of his goals...

"The goal of the Braylon Edwards ADVANCE 100 Program is to provide 100 eighth grade students (from Cleveland, OH) with academic scholarships upon the completion of their senior year of high school.

I think that is a pretty kick-ass thing to do... it basically gives kids a reason to do good in school and anytime your giving kids incentives like that so they can improve their life...

Good job #1.

Dear Lord help me.  If Michigan doesn't beat Bowling Green in football this year I will never hear the end of it.

I work in the athletic department at BG and during home games I'm in the press box.  Last year I got severly reprimanded by the Athletic Director for having a bias in the press box because I screamed in horror as Tate threw the overtime interception against sparty and then pronounced to the press sitting around me,

"Just wait until Denard's quarterback."

I'll be in the BG section rocking my Michigan gear no worries.  By the way if anyone is selling BG-Michigan game tickets I'm looking for two for my Dad and sister!  It'd be her first time in the big house.

2 years 39 weeks ago Respectfully Disagree

I think Theo's just trying to get all the pieces back and survey the scene to make a run at 2011.  If the Rays picked him up they'd probably have a decent chance at re-signing him next year.  I think Theo has quietly thrown in the towel for this year... not to mention Johnny Damon hates Boston.

lol.

We'll see though.

2 years 39 weeks ago Bowl Games

A few years back the NCAA lifted a requirement saying that bowl games had to pay a minimum to each school... so that means that smaller bowls dish out less to smaller teams...

Bowling Green for example got paid $250,000 to go to the Roady's Bowl Game in Idaho (against Idaho) and it cost $200,000 just to get the players and 60 marching band members to the game and back.  We ended up losing way more money than we gained on that end.

More publicity though... and for two hours they got their commercials on ESPN2.

2 years 39 weeks ago Red Sox

The Red Sox have no interest in Johnny Damon!  If anyone thinks they actually want him on the roster then you're crazy.

It was just to make sure no one else will take him.  No trade is going to happen.  And if it does the DD is a genius for turning a profit from signing an older guy like Damon to a one year deal.

I personally love Damon and would love to see him in a Tigers uni next year.

I was watching the 1997 OSU v. UM game yesterday thanks to WolverineHistorian (Along with both 38-0 beatdowns of ND) and watched in amazement as Charles Woodson burnt the defense as a wideout, shutdown David Boston as a cb, and returned punts... and my immidiate thought was that Denard could totally do it.

I wish wish wish he could do both QB and Corner...

Just like in NCAA 04 with Desmond where you could be the my player mode for the first time and after like three years your player was always 99 ovr. speed and could play QB AND CB.  Yeah.  Please Denard?

2 years 40 weeks ago Clock Management Brah

Lloyd Carr is telling you to run the ball at least 3 out of every 4 downs... and take the play clock down to 2 seconds on every other play!

Giving up 40+ points a game means you gotta throw in a run play here or there and actually watch the clock. lol.  I beat a guy online the other day 12-10 using Michigan and he was Arkansas.  It was the most satisfyingly frustrating game I've ever played online.

2 years 40 weeks ago 5-2

Line up in the 5-2 defense but have your de's drop back in coverage or man to man and squeeze the middle three in towards the middle.

That way you take out the middle and if your doing zone the de's will still be in the area to be able to clog space.

Also occasionally guess which side they're running and do a cb blitz play on that side in the 5-2... running is hard to stop in general this year but if the guy online sees a 5-2 and you luckily stop him a few plays he'll be inclined to pass it... but with the de's dropping back still it's not any easier for him to pass.

What's your GT on Live (I'm assuming your on 360)?   I'd be happy to beat you just using passing plays :)  VA Tech and Michigan are my two teams this year.  Good luck!

I don't see how a program like Bowling Green could survive without the B10 schools in the CCHA.  Even with having one of the more dominant programs of the 80s and early 90s (Ron Mason and Jerry York) the school almost cut the program 2 years ago due to financial difficulties.

If schools like Michigan and OSU aren't there, I don't see how they could survive.

The lyrics to "Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba"

Ay Ziggy Zoomba Zoomba Zoomba

I think it was Pasta Padre that said they are actually going to make it so the quarterbacks don't fumble as much, but it might not be until the actual patch gets released in a few weeks.

I know in my Michigan dynasty it was always the backup quarterbacks that fumbled constantly, whether it was Denard or Devin Gardner after his redshirt year.

My favorite part of the Dynasty pre-progression fix was that Devin Gardner was the highest rated QB in the game his RS Senior year.  But I also had to put it on hold after 5 years so I'm glad it's fixed.

By the way, copy and pasted Terrelle Pryor's research essay too.... I guess a blooming David Foster Wallace too lol.

2 years 42 weeks ago Moved

I moved to Ann Arbor from North Carolina the week before the Michigan v. Washington game, and also Phil Brabbs is from my Dad's hometown.  So it was my first real exposure to The University of Michigan and I was completly sold from that day on.

Before that I was a fan of Mack Brown's University of North Carolina.

2 years 42 weeks ago Washington 2002

Phil Brabbs Dominates that field goal!

2 years 42 weeks ago Thank You!

Thank you for your service!  I personally want to thank you!

And I'd personally like to ask, "Who's the better pitch man, Rod Smith or Ricardo Miller?"

2 years 42 weeks ago Spring Sport!

I still think it'd be a kick-ass spring sport.  And I think the ratings would be astronomical if you could get a weekly tournament of a lot of big time teams playing against each other.

It'd also allow smaller school QB's the chance to show their stuff on a more regular basis.  And it'd create a lot of hype for the fall.

2 years 43 weeks ago kick-ass

And it totally made the game kick-ass and memorable!  I don't understand sometimes how features get lost when they upgrade video game counsoles.  So sad.

R.I.P.

- Interactive Celebrations (After winning big games)

- 1-AA teams being in NCAA

2 years 43 weeks ago Barack Obama

Haha.  That was awesome seeing the president at the end.  I've always lamented about how lame and non-satisfying the endings are after you win something in sports video games.

Maybe it was just my imagination but I feel like in some NHL game for the SNES you got to skate your guy around the rink with the cup after you won.  Maybe I was just six and wanted to do that really badly.  Anyways I wish you could do something interactive after winning a National Title in NCAA or a Super Bowl in Madden.

2 years 44 weeks ago Nice Job

Evokes memories of Shawn Crable chasing down Javon Ringer a few years ago (couldn't find a video clip of the tackle).

Normally I'd laugh at you... but since you have a baby I feel bad for you and am happy you chased that bastard down.

2 years 44 weeks ago For what he did to Detroit

May he never see daylight again.

2 years 44 weeks ago Spring

How about we just make 7-on-7 its own sport in the spring... I think the ratings would be insane!

It'd be so sweet to see top QB's go head to head week after week in tournaments.  And because you can have multiple games you can see players more extensively... and I'm sure the NFL would love that.

Think if last spring you had a Tebow-led Florida 7s squad vs. a Colt McCoy-led Texas 7s squad one Saturday... It'd get big time tv ratings.  And while ESPN shows some college baseball... after March Madness I think the public would really enjoy this.

2 years 44 weeks ago Baseball

I definitely thought this was some story about the Minnesota Twins adding another player to the team before the trade deadline.

Thank God its not.

2 years 45 weeks ago Beating osu

My greatest memory was when in my dorm room there was a two week stretch when I became obsessed with my Michigan dynasty... I would use Tate for the 1st and 3rd quarters and Denard for the 2nd and 4th against the bad-average teams and then use Tate during the big games.

But when it was their senior year we ended up playing OSU and both were undefeated... I had woken up at 8 am so I could play the game before the Michigan-Notre Dame game.  My roommate had gotten massively drunk the night before so he was sleeping while I played below the bunk beds...

Game went into 4 OT's and I barely... barely escaped with a 52-46 win by stopping the osu quarterback on a 4th a goal on the two yard line... and when I did I screamed and startled my roomate who sat completly up banging his head on the ceiling (the bunks were close to the ceiling) and started screaming "FUUUUCK". My RA comes over and is like "What the fuck is going on?" and I respond "I just fucking beat fucking Ohio State!" and he gave me a high five and walked right back to his room.

Good times.

Needs to buy the Lions.

He is one of my favorite people in sports.  He truely loves the Wings and Tigers.  And he truely loves the city of Detroit.

I just wish he sold his pizzas in CoPa for $5.  Although the Hot Dog value meal is about as good of a stadium deal as you'll ever see.

2 years 47 weeks ago Bowling Green

Go BG!  Wahoo!  66 overall!

2 years 47 weeks ago It's cool

It''s awesome that he threw a no-hitter... but I think it's even more impressive that he allowed a baserunner per inning and still came away with a shutout.

Also with how many perfect game/no-hitter's this year how many no-no's and/or perfect games does Stephen Strasburg throw in his career?  Without steroids or greenies in the game I feel like barring injury Strasburg could rack up one a year... lol.

2 years 47 weeks ago FYI

Sam Cleary might be a RS freshman next year... but he's been on campus a few years.

2 years 48 weeks ago Moneyball

As a huge baseball geek this is the standard answer... But it's just fascinating to try and peer into a man's mind like Billy Beane...

I just don't understand how a man can run a baseball team and never watch any of their games.  Even if he is trying to take an objective look at a subjective game...

And also, he's pretty much abandoned the moneyball approach and is way into soccer now, but it's still a great read.

2 years 48 weeks ago Unfortunately

The Ohio State hire is an awesome one.  Just like how Maloney came from Ball State to put Michigan back on the map Greg Beals will do the same for Ohio State, and he also comes from Ball State.

While OSU hasn't been "off the map" they have been underperforming... a la Michigan football the last few years with Lloyd.  The teams had tons of talent, were supposed to dominate, yet failed to capitalize (OSU didn't even qualify for the B10 tournament this year).

Beals always has his teams ready to play and he always, always gets the most out of his players.  He had two players selected in the first two rounds a few weeks ago (Vitek and Perci Garner) along with a later round pick.  The man develops talent.

Notre Dame on the other hand is just a mess.

3 years 1 week ago Went to the game...

Today... Galarraga didn't have good stuff... got in a 2-1 count almost every batter... but he's a smart pitcher and was able to eat up 5 2/3 innings today.  He actually ended up pitching great.

He's a servicable pitcher this year.  He's not the answer for the future (that's why we have Turner, Satterwhite, etc.) but he's servicable right now.

Can anyone say Luke French people?  I went and saw French outduel Zack Grienke last year, he was good enough for a few starts and then the Tigers got rid of him.  We just need Galarraga to do that this year, throw 5-6 innings every outing and not lose the game.

I have the faith.  162 game 2010 AL Central Champs baby.

3 years 1 week ago Defense

Dembrowski could care less if the middle infield can hit or not... he just wants defense from those positions...

Adam Everett literally transforms the lineup from an AL one to an NL one... the only difference is the our 9 hole hitter bats every single day... Adam Everett looks and hits like a pitcher when he's in the batters box.

He's got a nice glove though.

3 years 1 week ago Holy Cow

It's okay though... Sizemore is still young... but man I wish Scherzer could've started the year better.

I have faith in Dembrowski though because everytime I doubt him it seems to work out.  Austin Jackson's going to go 4-5 tomorrow!  Mark my words.

3 years 19 weeks ago I Have a Reason to Hate Idaho

They stole my joy and made me cry over the way my Freddie Barnes-led Falcons lost to them this bowl season in Boise :(

3 years 19 weeks ago Did you watch....

How they beat my Bowling Green State University in the last 30 seconds of the game? I was over at Banfield's Westside throwing a fit after that game lol.

That loss in the Humanitarian Bowl perpetuated my hate for Idaho, nothing else. And the only thing I know about Idaho girls is that they wear too much clothing....

http://www.neatorama.com/2008/09/23/cheerleaders-ditched-uniforms-becaus...

3 years 19 weeks ago Hate

I don't doubt Idaho is nice and all... but they beat my school I spend my money to attend in a rather heart wrenching fashion. lol.

Freddie still smashed the all-time receptions record that day though. :)

Does Wyoming have anything going for them in sports?

3 years 20 weeks ago True

They are in a great place right now and I wouldn't blame them if they wanted to just stay in the WAC right now... and maybe they couldn't compete every year for the pac-10 championship... but competing for the rose bowl once every two or three years I don't think would be out of the question if they moved over.

They beat everyone they play. Anyone and everyone who wants to challenge them. Also they'd be able to recruit better athletes with the move, although their players are doing very well for them right about now, just ask Legarrette Blount. lol.

I think it'd be an interesting experiment if nothing else. I wish it would happen.

3 years 20 weeks ago Boise State

I saw them come in to Bowling Green and sat next to Pat Forde the whole game, and he had just come up from the Cincinatti v. Fresno State game. After Boise's beatdown of my beloved Falcons Pat Forde predicted to me that Cincinatti would go undefeated in the Big East and Boise would go to the Fiesta Bowl this year.

As much as I disagree with a lot of his stuff, I gotta give it to him on that one.

As for Boise, at one point they scored 21 points in 2 minutes. This team is scary good, they could compete with any team in the nation. I think it's about time they join the Pac-10, because if they were they could legitamitally compete to play in the Rose Bowl on New Years every year. That program is in a very good place right now.

Go Boise!

3 years 20 weeks ago Left Hand!

He's unstoppable whenever he mixes it up and takes it to the left side. Thank you Jesus.

3 years 20 weeks ago Left Hand

Is it just me or does manny never dribble with his left hand? Never drives down the lane with his left.

It drives me crazy he always goes to his right, at least from my casual fans perspective....

3 years 21 weeks ago Emotion!

Urban Meyer AND Tim Tebow's last college football game at Florida?

Florida is gonna whoop up on some Cincinatti next week......

3 years 21 weeks ago In an attempt to save this.

This has a nice little graph of the playoff picture for both conferences.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/standings/playoffrace/seeds

It boggles my mind that there are seven teams with either 8-6 or 7-7 records in the AFC.

I don't know who's gonna play who the next two weeks but man this tiebreaker could be rediculous....

3 years 24 weeks ago Why?

Why is everyone hating on Jamal Crawford so badly? lol

I know he probably is that Nick Saban guy... but why dont we just not give him neg or pos points for a while until he actually proves he's legit? Why take him out so fast?

Either way I just think this would be epically amusing if it actually wasn't Nick Saban. Call me an optimist. In my general studies writing class here at Bowling Green I wrote a paper on a why "Michigan Will Win a National Championship in 2011", "How to Turn Around the Detroit Lions So They Win a Super Bowl by 2013", and finally for my final this weekend "Why Rich Rodriguez will be Michigan's Greatest Coach" lol

I've actually enjoyed Jamal Crawford's statements so far.

3 years 24 weeks ago Hey hey hey!

Can we not pick on Bowling Green! We do have Freddie Barnes, leading reciever in the nation!

lol. I'm just messing around, but hey at least I actually get to drive to a bowl game to see my college play... Even if we're projected to play in Boise and it will take me 234234 hours to get there.

3 years 26 weeks ago What in the world

As a BG student who works at BG's home games with the athletic department I can tell you one thing.

BG SUCKS AT HOCKEY.

They stink in every fashion of the word except for the big black guy Samuelsson. We are bad bad bad. During the football game tonight we were joking about what the final score would be. We predicted a solid 5-1 loss would be the outcome.

What the heck.....

ps. I'll be working the game in Toledo tomorrow for BG but cheering for the Blue.

3 years 27 weeks ago Alabama's Schedule

Is way tougher than TCU's...

but Florida, for this year only, hasn't played as tough of a schedule as people think...

Tennessee, Arkansas, and LSU are the only above average teams they've played so far, and only LSU was/is ranked.

Alabama is gonna roll over Florida in a few weeks... as much as it pains me to watch Nick Saban win, they have the best team in America. Hands down in my opinion.

3 years 27 weeks ago Dude...

Cincinatti and TCU have played against the same number of ranked opponents too (until Cinci plays Pitt in two weeks) and Cinci's opponents were ranked 21st and 25th...

Just saying with quality wins... TCU has put a whoopin on the best teams they've played against while Cinci has put a whoopin on all the unranked teams they've played against.

3 years 27 weeks ago If only...

They played another top 25 team instead of Texas State in that second game of the season I would say that they should be a legit Title contender...

But lets look at the numbers...

They beat #16 (at the time) BYU 38-7 (btw BYU did beat Oklahoma)

Just killed #16 Utah 55-28....

Also beat a should be heisman candidate in CJ Spiller and Clemson and also beat down a horrible Virginia team...

Texas on the other hand...

Their only two ranked wins this year came against #20 (at the time) Oklahoma 16-13 and #14 (at the time) Oklahoma State 41-14...

Looking at the resumes Texas hasn't had that much harder of a schedule than TCU... and I'm confidant in saying that if TCU was in the Big 12 this year... they would have run the table and would win the Big 12 too.

3 years 27 weeks ago Dave...

Is an amazing GM who almost always finds a less known player, plugs him in after trading a superstar for 2-4 amazing prospects, and sits back and watches as the lesser known kid becomes a star.

He's a GM in a big market that thinks like a small market GM from all his years in Florida. Besides the Edgar Renteria trade, I really can't think of any other trades he's completely missed on. Even though Jerrod Washburn didn't work out, he basically brought up Luke French for a few games, watched him beat Zach Grienke once, then shipped him off for at the time an all-star pitcher.

That being said....

Inge is such a HUGE part of our community, especially those of us in Ann Arbor, he's done so much for the childrens hospital here. And the same goes for Granderson. These two players stand for what all great baseball players should strive to be off the field, and they've done pretty well on it too, except for the fact Inge will never hit over .230 for the rest of his days.

And god.... don't trade Edwin....

3 years 28 weeks ago I'm pretty sure

It was Drew Nietzel's senior year when they lost to Grand Valley.

3 years 28 weeks ago Not really uncommon...

Findlay beat OSU either last year or a few years back...

And I was on the campus of GVSU the night they took down Michigan State! It was amazing!

If only these things counted for real.

3 years 28 weeks ago Freddie!

Freddie Barnes for Biletnikoff!

3 years 28 weeks ago Looking to next year...

I will be working the BG-Michigan game next year for the BG athletic department...

We're allowed to wear any polo we want to the games as long as there are no logos of other schools on our shirts...

I've worn my striped Maize and Blue polo to every home game we've had here so far lol.

Is it unprofessional to be wearing it at next years game? I will definitely be cheering for Michigan secretly and praying I get a glimpse at Devin/a more improved Denard at some point during the game. lol.

btw, both Freddie and the QB are seniors this year so nothing to worry about in regards to BG having any sort of hope next year.

3 years 28 weeks ago Lets compare Michigan's D with a MAC teams D then cry...

Michigan is 81st in Total D and BG is 88th in Total D.

Michigan is 70th in Scoring D and BG is 87th.

Now Bowling Green does have the 22nd best Pass D compared to Michigan's 63rd.

Rushing D BG is 110th compared to Michigan's 85th ranked Rushing D.

I'll take Donavan Warren and then trade secondaries with BG.

So... ya take that however you want.

3 years 28 weeks ago Bowling Green

I'm a student at BG and I work in the press box during the home football games.

BG's offense is on par with Central for best in the MAC, hands down. It's just the defense that is beyond horrible.

Dave Clausen came in after that atrocious year at Tennessee and made the QB Tyler Sheehan a beast and turned Freddie Barnes into the top WR in the nation.

I would be exaggerating except for the fact that he has 99 catches going into the game tonight (now 102) and the person with the second most receptions is some WR from Kansas who has 65 and Jordan Shipley from Texas is tied for third with 64.

He also leads the NCAA in recieving yards, recieving yards/game, and is second in recieving touchdowns with 9.

The only downside to him is he has a bit of the Braylon Edwards syndrome, where he has a case of the dropsies from time to time.

3 years 32 weeks ago Jake Long

They were also drooling about Jake Long and the offensive line in the last part of that game. Jon Gruden is in love with the Miami Dolphins,

And also no wonder Gruden had so many qbs in tampa, all he talked about that last drive was about how much he loved the fact that Miami kept on switching QB's... calling it, and I quote "the most exciting thing to ever happen to him" watching the QB's switch in and out

The Muck Wolverines!

3 years 32 weeks ago Thank God
