Fixed, anyway —  thanks for pointing that out. At least it doesn't totally ruin the premise of the post, and only confirms that I'm kind of an idiot.

4 weeks 1 day ago He did not.

He did not.

4 weeks 4 days ago I'll say this—I have no idea

I'll say this—I have no idea if Gerry Hamilton is privy to information that nobody else has, and it's certainly possible given his position (he's 247's national scouting director). I do know that him making that prediction got a lot of people to click on Jabrill Peppers' 247 profile.

Unless another expert or two flips their pick to Rutgers, I wouldn't worry about this too much.

4 weeks 5 days ago Yikes, I must've hit a wrong

Yikes, I must've hit a wrong link somewhere. Thanks for the heads up on the RPI—going through and fixing those now.

5 weeks 3 days ago Yeah, that's partially my

Yeah, that's partially my fault and partially Rivals'. If you look at Watson's recruiting profile, they list him as being from Southfield but left the data field blank for his high school, so he didn't show up in my database search. So Marshall is the second-highest ranked Southfield High player and the highest since Watson in 2002.

5 weeks 3 days ago Yup. I've said this

Yup.

I've said this elsewhere, but I don't think Robinson was ever under serious consideration. He's 6'2", 230 pounds, and plays more like a strongside end than a weakside end. Given Marshall is the more explosive athlete and has a longer frame, he's a much better fit for what the coaches want—they're building a really big D-line, and Marshall could end up packing on the pounds like Frank Clark did. I'm not sure Robinson could do that and still be effective.

5 weeks 4 days ago I'd be pretty surprised if

I'd be pretty surprised if Robinson got an offer. Yes, he's looked good at camps, but he's a 6'2", 230-pound defensive end. Take a look at the size of the guys Michigan currently has on the roster at DE and the prospects they're recruiting there. Frank Clark is still a WDE despite pushing 280, and at 6'2" he's the shortest DE on the team—and he's a more explosive athlete than Robinson. Taco Charlton is a 6'6", 265-pound true freshman and he'll be a WDE. Depending on how the class shakes out, Da'Shawn Hand could even end up there, and he's a high school defensive tackle.

Michigan is clearly building a massive D-line. I don't think Robinson fits that vision, even though I think he's a decent prospect.

5 weeks 4 days ago Brown is still a long way

Brown is still a long way from narrowing things down (he just named a top ten a few weeks ago) and making a decision, and he hasn't visited campus, so until either of those things happen I'm having a hard time entertaining him as a serious possibility.

That said, if Brown showed interest he'd be making a decision late in the cycle—he hasn't visited several of his top schools, after all—and by that time the coaches would have a better idea of the final class numbers (and likely know the destinations of McDowell and Marshall). They could look at Brown as a potential alternative to Hand, should he go elsewhere, or if there's room for both I doubt they'd turn down any interested five-stars in this class—again, there aren't enough pressing needs for the coaches to turn down the best players available late in the game.

At this point I'd consider Brown quite a longshot, though, so this probably won't be relevant.

Tacopants has managed to remain invisible for nearly a decade, so I think this should work out quite nicely, actually.

64 colors didn't look any better with these—think the bigger issue was the lighting at the game.

[EDIT: Also, these are taken from a 360p video, and normally I'm starting with at least 720p. Guarantee they'll look better come football season, or I'll switch up how I do them.]

9 weeks 1 day ago Unless one of the programs in

Unless one of the programs in contention has a particularly great (or terrible) season, I doubt 2013 wins and losses are going to make a huge difference in Hand's recruitment. He seems very serious about the academic side of things and how well he connects with the coaches—Bud Foster is the reason VT is on top, and Greg Mattison is developing a similarly-strong relationship with Hand—and I think those will be much bigger factors than how each team does this fall. These guys are looking at the next 4-5 years, not where the team is the year before they get on campus.

9 weeks 1 day ago Yes.

Borges says he tells TE recruits that when their offense is running the way it can they'll think they've died and gone to tight end heaven.

I understand the sentiment, even if I don't agree with it in this instance. As a kid, when I woke up on Sunday mornings after Michigan football losses, I'd try to recycle the Ann Arbor News before my parents could lay it out on the kitchen table.

We'll have plenty of football coverage, don't worry.

It means a lot to me to know that this has reached someone else in the CFS/ME community, buddhafrog. I've been around a couple people who also were diagnosed in the very early days, and I know that must have been very, very difficult, and I completely understand your decision not to tell anyone. If, as you said, this helped you get through that in any way, that's the best thing that could've come out of writing this.

On a personal note, if you ever feel the need to talk to someone who knows (at least some) of what you're going through, don't hesitate to send me an email.

I just want to thank everyone again for their comments—your understanding and support make me think I could've done this a long time ago, though this really felt like the right time to post this.

I should probably thank Trey Burke for that.

Thanks for pointing me in that direction—here's the direct link for those wondering. Trust me, I have.

First of all, in light of the above you can see why I'm not exactly searching for the next job—I rather like it here. More importantly, future employers are far more dangerous to me if they don't know what's up.

10 weeks 5 days ago Brian is out of pocket

Brian is out of pocket because he's in the midst of a move, I'm attempting to write a longform piece today, and other outlets were running with the story. I'd agree that, in light of what's been revealed about Heitner, his report didn't deserve the attention it received. But it also received a ton of attention, and at least this way a more complete version of the story is on the front page for those who have come across the original report and want to know more.

But yes, it turned out Heitner isn't front-page material, and I apologize for any unnecessary consternation posting this has caused.

10 weeks 5 days ago I'm honestly not sure what's

I'm honestly not sure what's going on with that—Heitner is supposedly based out of Florida, while Adelson lives in Florida and covers Michigan sports, per his Twitter bio.

Don't get me wrong - I came here and stayed largely because I liked Brian's writing style. But as he has incorporated more people into writing for the blog, I just hope for a little more variation and originality from the other contributors.

I don't think it's a conscious choice—in fact, I make a concerted effort to make sure I don't sound like a (dime-store) copy of Brian. In my case, however, I've been reading MGoBlog since I was in high school, and Brian's writing style has obviously been an influence. I don't think that's a bad thing.

10 weeks 6 days ago http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Webber#Charity

I'm a pretty big NBA fan. The only people I've heard say bad things about Chris Webber are Michigan fans—a certain set of Michigan fans that feels personally betrayed by the Ed Martin scandal—and I'd love to see those fans give the man a chance to prove he's grown up and moved forward since he was 18 (or, if you'd prefer, in the decade since he lied to a grand jury). There's a whole lot of positive that could come out of the Fab Five reconciling with Michigan, and the only negative I see is bitter fans who don't want to be reminded of an era that the program has obviously moved beyond.

10 weeks 6 days ago Yes, let's forever ostracize

Yes, let's forever ostracize an otherwise upstanding person who accepted a large sum of money when he was 18 years old. [EDIT: And going back to the eighth grade!] In case you haven't noticed, Michigan's last and current coaches are (1) the head coach at Harvard, and (2) the head of the NCAA MBB ethics coalition. I think we've learned some things.

Pretty sure that's the only angle CBS showed—there wasn't a timeout until well after it happened, and they didn't show a replay going into or coming out of the next break. Haven't seen another angle in the highlights, either. Definitely disappointing, since I'd like a wide-angle look at it, too.

12 weeks 2 days ago (No subject)

12 weeks 4 days ago This is not a McGary/Horford

This is not a McGary/Horford vs. LeVert/Vogrich proposition, though. Beilein's offense is designed to have four players who can shoot from the perimeter. Playing two bigs is something he's been more open to this year, but it still bogs down what he can do offensively. In a system designed around spacing and outside shooting, having two big guys who can't shoot isn't ideal.

Meanwhile, Michigan's guards need the occasional break, too, and LeVert is one of the team's best perimeter defenders. Vogrich really isn't part of the rotation, so I'm not even sure why he's being mentioned here—the guy has maybe played 10 meaningful minutes since conference play began.

12 weeks 4 days ago Totally agree—it's only an

Totally agree—it's only an easier look if you have post players with a strong back-to-the-basket game. Right now:

  • Jordan Morgan can't hold onto the ball, let alone make a post move.
  • Mitch McGary is an energetic freshman with little in the way of a refined offensive game.
  • Jon Horford alternates awkward-looking post moves that surprisingly work and awkward-looking post moves that unsurprisingly don't come close.

This is a perimeter-oriented team. They're very good at that. Post scoring would be great and all, but it's not something you conjure out of a few new plays in March.

Jack's actually a pretty huge sports fan himself, and talks about being at that game much the same way I do.

He did, however, hate to be photographed as a kid. This hasn't stopped him from complaining about how there aren't any good pictures of him in the family photo albums.

As for my thoughts on Trey coming back—well, I felt like I'd be missing a huge opportunity if I didn't write this piece now. I certainly don't expect him to be back, and I think he'd be making the right choice.

Hatch hasn't returned to game action since the crash—he's made a lot of progress and is doing everything but full-court five-on-five at this point [LINK], but it's still unclear whether he'll be able to play at Michigan. Regardless of whether he plays, however, his scholarship will be honored, and he'll almost certainly be granted a medical hardship if he's unable to play.

I'm assuming three is the number they've got in mind if the class stays at a very limited number of scholarships—until the coaches get a better idea of how many roster spots they'll have come Signing Day, they've got to be very careful about how many spots they say they have open.

Keep in mind that the coaches said they'd stand pat at five offensive linemen for nearly the entire 2013 recruiting cycle, only to take a sixth when it turned out they had room in January.

If this is the case, then why did you first say, "I keep seeing complaints like this and I don't get it." when replying to me?

I figured it out. All the complaints I saw were yours.

14 weeks 6 days ago I'll skip the part where you

I'll skip the part where you completely ignored most of my initial post and say a few things:

  • Yes, I'm aware of what can be done with video. I happen to have made a few myself.
  • These posts are actually quite popular—we've had a ton of good feedback on these. I'm pretty sure you're very much in the minority.
  • Workplaces blocking YouTube is an extremely common occurrence and therefore, yes, a rather big issue. I'm glad it's not a problem for you, though.
  • I'm fully aware that these load slowly for some people. I've made a very concerted effort to cut down on the size of the files, including recently changing my gifs to 64 colors, which significantly decreases size and loading time. Unfortunately, not every post is for everyone. People who are only here to read about football will skip our basketball coverage. People with slow internet connections should probably skip these. This is why we try to post a lot of content.

I think I answered your initial post with some very valid points, most of which you ignored. Answering with a threat to remove your support for the blog—you know, the one that I rely upon for my very modest living, and the one that provides its content entirely for free—is something I don't appreciate. I think my record of being very civil and reasonable in my interactions with readers speaks for itself.

14 weeks 6 days ago I keep seeing complaints like

I keep seeing complaints like this and I don't get it.

1. Every outlet—including us!—posts video highlights. They are not hard to find.

2. Using gifs allows people whose workplace blocks YouTube and the like to see these.

3. The gif format has its own merits—I can edit them (see: Hardaway's trollface), for one, much easier than I can with video. Also, the fact that they loop allows one to get repeated viewings of a play without having to reload a video over and over.

I'm sure there are more reasons, but I guess my main point is that if you don't like gifs, don't click on a gifs post.

I'll admit to some trepidation (on both my part and Brian's) over posting that gif—there's a reason it's below the fold. In this particular case, the quality of the gif outweighed the nature of its content.

The guy who runs it (Coach Brown) is a little rough around the edges at this point—so were Tom and Steve when they started, and I cringe re-reading some of my old stuff—but it's free info and legit. If two places have the same info I do my best to link the free blog over the paywalled content.

16 weeks 3 days ago Ross Douglas is another guy

Ross Douglas is another guy who fits that mold. Given Crawford's impressive athleticism, I wouldn't rule him out for an offer at all—could fit in very well as a nickel corner, which is a position the coaches are specifically recruiting for these days (see: Douglas).

17 weeks 7 hours ago There are over 11 months

There are over 11 months until Signing Day. Westphal hasn't had the chance to visit any other school more than once outside of two in-state schools (Northwestern and Illinois). He also has offers from all over the country and a good chance at picking up many more.

I'd hold off on calling him indecisive. He's one of the few guys who's even given a decision timeline.

17 weeks 11 hours ago No idea why they'd have that

No idea why they'd have that for Westphal—if he's got a leader, it's definitely Michigan. Often profiles on recruiting sites have outdated information, since nobody can maintain a database that keeps up with every change in every prospect's recruitment (247 is the only site that really even tries). I wouldn't ever put too much stock in the list of schools on a player's Rivals/Scout/ESPN profile.

I'll agree that this is not the ideal forum for such a discussion. I'm not trying to imply that the guy committed a crime nor that he needs to be thrown in jail or anything of the sort. That's up to the girl to decide what to do, which is what I tried to express.

It's possible what he did was in part an accident, but he still grabbed a woman he doesn't know in an area that he shouldn't be grabbing. I don't think that's up for dispute at this point.

They didn't lose a single one, though David Dawson briefly left the class. The rest of the guys were:

Kyle Bosch
Wyatt Shallman
Taco Charlton
Chris Fox
Jourdan Lewis
Jake Butt
Logan Tuley-Tillman

17 weeks 5 days ago Of the guys I think Michigan

Of the guys I think Michigan has a legitimate shot at, here's a quick list (I'm writing this off the top of my head, so any glaring omissions are likely exactly that):

1. Da'Shawn Hand — Top prospect in the country has M in his top five, so he's a clear choice for number one.

2. Malik McDowell — If he played against better competition in HS I think he'd have a great chance at being a five-star. As it is, he's still very close.

3. Drake Harris — Getting a top-flight wideout would be big. Getting a top-flight in-state wideout from State (and OSU, and the rest of the country...) would be bigger.

4. Jabrill Peppers and/or Adoree' Jackson — I'm cheating here, but grabbing an elite corner would be great, and both of these guys have expressed legitimate interest. Still just an outside shot for both, IMO.

5. Damian Prince — Ditto for this five-star OL.

6. Mason Cole — Top-100 offensive lineman who Michigan may very well lead for.

7. Alex Bars — Ditto.

8. Tyler Luatua — I'd love to see Michigan continue to stockpile talent at TE, and he's the best in the country.

9. Parrker Westphal — Getting him would ease a lot of the hurt from losing Damon Webb to OSU (Webb would be high up on this list, but he seems firm in his commitment).

10. Artavis Scott — Cole's HS teammate is a hell of an athlete at WR and they could be a package deal.

I'm sure I left out several worthy candidates, but that's a rough list. All of the above guys have at least mentioned Michigan as being in contention. Of the above, they've got the best shot at landing McDowell, Cole, Westphal, Bars, and Scott, IMO.

17 weeks 6 days ago Want to know why Kentucky's

Want to know why Kentucky's freshmen were better at rebounding and defense? Kentucky's effective height last year was #12 in the country, per KenPom. Michigan's is almost exactly average at #150.

Also, Kentucky had an Anthony Davis. Michigan does not have an Anthony Davis, and that has nothing whatsoever to do with effort.

The trouble here is minutes—you can ask a guard to go 35+ for a game, but a big man needs to catch a breather more frequently. Michigan is going to need more minutes out of Morgan's replacements than State will from Trice's. Also, while Bielfeldt held his own for stretches at center against Wisconsin, State's two bigs make it unlikely that Beilein will be able to get away with that look for long.

The other trouble here is you believing that Blake McLimans, who hasn't played a meaningful minute all season, is a viable option to play.

Norfleet was a four-star Detroit kid with great film who was committed to Cincinnati and his lack of an offer was inexplicable. There isn't a guy out there like that this year. Not saying there won't be a surprise offer, but it'll be much more of a surprise than Norfleet's.

19 weeks 1 day ago If something is on Twitter,

If something is on Twitter, and only on Twitter, proceed with great caution.

Honestly, my way to deal with these rumors (there was the "MLK trip" thing last week, too) is to ignore them entirely. If something is being reported by Sam Webb or TomVH, it's legit. If you're hearing word based on a recruit's Twitter feed—especially if it's about a name that hasn't come up before—that should raise some major red flags.

Everybody loves being the first to share the news, and I understand the feeling. But please, please try to make sure it's actually news first.

This is very true, and should probably have been mentioned. I am in no way advocating for a reduced role for Morgan—think there's too much noise in these numbers to take away anything definitive, and he best fits Beilein's defensive philosophy.

I'll say this: Beilein has repeatedly indicated that there's very little chance he changes the general distribution of minutes, let alone the starting lineup. And given that he's John Beilein, and the results thus far have been pretty good, I think that's the right move.

20 weeks 5 days ago Cornwell and Caleb Henderson

Cornwell and Caleb Henderson (out of Virginia) are the two main ones. Michael O'Connor could be in the mix as well—Michigan was recruiting him as a 2015 prospect before he reclassified.

All the buzz around Cornwell makes me think he'll be the first one to get an offer and then the coaches will go from there if he doesn't commit.

20 weeks 5 days ago Yup. There's so much

Yup.

There's so much recruiting hype these days that people get anxious to see the Next Big Thing, forgetting that the Current Big Thing (in this case, Gardner) was once in the exact same position and almost always is the preferable option.

20 weeks 5 days ago As the Cornwell thing

As the Cornwell thing suggests, I think you'll see at least one 2014 QB offer go out soon. If you're only going to take one or two QBs, you have to minimize the chance that you get a guy who's a bust—I think the coaches are doing the right thing by taking as much time as they need to evalutate the available prospects. Remember, there's still a year before signing day, and unlike the 2013 class there's no obvious blue-chip in-state prospect.

Along those lines, I wouldn't expect Jayru Campbell to get an offer in the imminent future. He's still got a ways to go as a QB, especially with his accuracy; Michigan is looking for strong pocket passers, so he's got to prove he can stand in the pocket and hit his targets. With more than two years before Campbell can sign, they've got a lot of time to evaluate him before they need to make a choice about an offer.

20 weeks 5 days ago More of a chance for that

More of a chance for that than anything happening with Morris next year, but I still think it's extremely—extremely—unlikely. When was the last time you heard about a successful quarterback in his third year as a starter being displaced by a redshirt freshman?

20 weeks 5 days ago That's simply not going to

That's simply not going to happen. I think Morris has a ton of potential but he needs time to develop. Gardner proved himself to be very capable against Big Ten defenses last year despite practicing largely at wide receiver; there's no way the coaches are going to want to start a true freshman over a proven commodity.

The only way I see him starting next year is if Gardner gets hurt, and if that happens it's going to be trouble. That's not a knock on Morris; it's just extremely difficult to step right in as a freshman—enrolling just a couple weeks before the season starts, no less—and be anything but overwhelmed.

21 weeks 13 hours ago I mentioned this to Brian and

I mentioned this to Brian and figured I'd also post it here: If Michigan is looking for a shot-blocker, I think it's Mitch McGary. After starting the season out of shape (he missed a lot of preseason conditioning with, IIRC, a foot injury), he's got ten blocks in the last six games and generally looks more explosive than he did at the beginning of the season.

21 weeks 5 days ago I think Michigan has a decent

I think Michigan has a decent shot, but I'm worried they won't be able to capitalize on Minnesota's big offensive weakness: turnovers. They usually cough up the rock a lot, but Michigan is second-to-last in the conference at forcing turnovers. Throw in the fact that the Wolverines have struggled with the more athletic teams they've faced, especially in the pick-and-roll game, and I think the KenPom line is a fair one.

21 weeks 5 days ago Not to be a killjoy, but

Not to be a killjoy, but unless Foster visits campus at some point—which seems doubtful—there's about a 0% chance of that happening.

21 weeks 5 days ago Very doubtful, in my opinion.

Very doubtful, in my opinion. Hunt and Dan Skipper both had high interest when Samuelson committed, but neither were on the verge of a commitment; I don't believe that's changed, nor do I think the coaches would tell Hunt one thing and Skipper another.

22 weeks 1 day ago There's no way the staff

There's no way the staff doesn't leave room for Green; if they have to hold off on accepting other commitments until he makes his decision, they'll do so.

22 weeks 1 day ago The offers that have gone out

The offers that have gone out have still mostly been to national-level prospects, so there are still only a couple of guys I think Michigan has a very good shot at landing who also hold offers: Parrker Westphal and Troy Vincent have serious interest while Jabrill Peppers has M in his top five. The other offerees seems like long-shots to me; we'll see how things shake out when the coaches start targeting more Midwest recruits. Landing any of the above guys would take a lot of the sting out of missing out on Webb.

22 weeks 4 days ago There's something like that

There's something like that in the works—a gif depository of sorts so there's a permanent home for all the mgogifs. I like the idea of adding a HoF section. This likely will happen post-basketball season so I have the time to get everything organized, and I'm guessing you'll see some sort of SBNation-style gif tournament as well during the offseason—perhaps that can have some bearing on the HoF nominees.

22 weeks 4 days ago Just wanted to jump down here

Just wanted to jump down here and thank everyone for the input. I'm no basketball coach, and I learn a couple new things every time I do one of these—for instance, my assumption that the freshman McGary was at fault more than Burke for the gap above the pick appears to be wrong.

I'll do more of these as the season goes on. If anyone sees something during the game that they think deserves a closer look, hit me up on Twitter, shoot me an email, or leave a comment in my game column—I'll be on the lookout.

If a player has an offer from Michigan, they can commit whenever, as far as I know. That's why the coaches have shown serious interest in some players—James Crawford, for example—but haven't extended an offer; in Crawford's case, they're waiting on McQuay.

If Cameron Hunt decided to commit before Dawson was ready to do so, he'd get the last O-line spot. As for the other top targets, if it becomes clear Michigan needs to find a backup plan, you'll see more offers go out.

28 weeks 1 day ago Let me put it this way:

Let me put it this way: Michigan has done all they can do within reason to try to land Treadwell. He's been on campus six times, including visiting with his mom. They've shown him plenty of love. They've had him as the top wide receiver on their board for the duration of the recruiting cycle.

It's possible the staff hasn't been pushing for a commitment as hard as Ole Miss/Oklahoma/Oklahoma State in recent weeks. It's also possible that Treadwell is looking for more than Michigan is willing to offer, whether that's guaranteed playing time or whatever.

If Treadwell ends up elsewhere, and that appears likely, it's not because the staff didn't do their best to land him. And if they've backed off, they have good reason to do so. You don't just stop recruiting the #1 wideout in the country when there's a huge need and he's shown great interest.

EDIT: And it would be nice to get some details about what browser you're using and if your computer is usually slow loading gifs. Because, hate to break it to you, sometimes you're just SOL if you have a slow connection. These kind of posts can't accommodate everyone, unfortunately.

I don't have the torrent from that game and couldn't find the clip in a cursory look. If somebody else can locate it, however, I'm more than happy to make that gif.

EDIT: Found where it happened—LINK—but unfortunately you only see the very tail end of the run up in the corner of the screen. Bummer.

31 weeks 5 days ago Nope—way too time-consuming

Nope—way too time-consuming compared to their value (questionable, especially compared to football and considering the relative wealth of advanced basketball stats). I might look at other ways of charting games, but I'll also be pretty busy since I'll be attending every home game (and hopefully some road games) and also covering my fair share of pressers—we'll see how it shakes out once football season is over and I have a little more time to focus on hoops.

EDIT: To clarify, I will probably do the shot chart for both teams that I had in the UFRs last year, but I won't be doing a full play-by-play chart.

Haven't heard anything since what was reported on Tuesday, but I'd keep expectations for Tunsil about as low as possible. There's very little chance he leaves the South, and I'll believe he's serious about a visit when he's on campus.

Haven't seen an explanation; at that point in the rankings, though, a 30-place difference doesn't mean a whole lot—it's the difference between a solid four-star and... a solid four-star.

I should probably note that you can hit 'escape' to stop the images from animating, then right-click and hit 'view image' to open it up in its own window. I realize these posts are quite bandwith-heavy but there's really no way around that with a post full of gifs, which is why most of them go below the jump.

At this point I'd be surprised if Conley sticks, but I think they can make it work taking both him and Treadwell if that scenario plays out. There'd have to be zero attrition from the current team for another couple spots not to open up; we all know that's unlikely even in the best of times.

32 weeks 5 days ago I largely agree with you, and

I largely agree with you, and think this program is set up for a long run among the elite; my point is that there are few guarantees in today's college basketball, and shots at a national title can be fleeting—it's not every year that experienced returning talent collides with a special recruiting class, which is necesssary for a title run unless you're recruiting like Kentucky. This is one of those years.

33 weeks 11 hours ago This is true. I'm not going

This is true. I'm not going to bother correcting it, however, because that nomenclature is outrageously stupid. I'm not going to pretend a couple of play-in games actually represent a real round.

It's these kind of strong moral stances that keep you all coming back to mgoblog, I'm sure.

There was a rumor of him decommitting on a message board that was summarily debunked by multiple outlets. Nothing to see here, thankfully.

33 weeks 1 day ago I saw first-hand LTT

I saw first-hand LTT receiving a lot of one-on-one attention from Darrell Funk at the SMSB camp this summer; I'm sure he picked up a few things there, which bodes well for when he's coached by Funk at Michigan.

33 weeks 1 day ago There's a fire going on

There's a fire going on either way. Are you being deliberately obtuse?

The Dawson news wouldn't be on here if it was just an issue of him being interested in MSU and OSU, granted. Combined with the fact that it's still a major point of discussion being handled very poorly on the board, however, it was very much worth mentioning and making my/the blog's stance on the matter 100% clear, especially since I'll be quick on the trigger for banning/Bolivia-ing those who continue to make it an issue.

33 weeks 1 day ago Because (1) it's still an

Because (1) it's still an issue being discussed on our board in an entirely appalling matter, so I think it needs to be addressed for the sake of future discussion on this site, and (2) a highly-rated prospect strongly considering Michigan's two main rivals is relevant to Michigan regardless.

33 weeks 1 day ago Cass Tech's coach, Thomas

Cass Tech's coach, Thomas Wilcher, made it very clear that Michigan no longer will recruit Dawson. Considering it's very likely he contacted Florida to set up visits multiple times without informing Michigan's coaches, I'm not at all surprised that's how they're handling the situation, and I think it's the best way to go about it for the sake of the team, the current commits, and the prospects they're going after.

33 weeks 1 day ago Unless there's news about

Unless there's news about Dawson and Michigan reconnecting (as said above, highly unlikely) this is the last I'm speaking on him aside from a passing mention if he commits to a Big Ten school.

33 weeks 1 day ago The thing is, in both cases

The thing is, in both cases where Michigan has parted ways with a recruit due to this policy—Pharaoh Brown and David Dawson—it was clear that there was contact with other schools going on without the knowledge of the coaches, which may be the reason why neither had/has the option of returning. Conley has been very up front about his intentions; it's possible that because of his situation (committing without visiting other schools) and his being so forward about his plans, the coaches treat his matter differently from Brown/Dawson.

33 weeks 1 day ago It's also not fair to other

It's also not fair to other prospects interested in Michigan for a commit to hold a spot and still be looking around; I think that's the main reason for the policy, both for the sake of Michigan (make sure their commits are completely committed to the fullest extent they can) and interested recruits.

33 weeks 1 day ago I'd be very, very surprised

I'd be very, very surprised if Michigan reconnected with Dawson.

C&P'd from three weeks ago, because apparently this conversation needs to happen every other time I post these:

Number of times Michigan plays Notre Dame over the next two seasons: 2

Number of times Michigan plays Wisconsin over the next two seasons: 0

Do we really need to have this debate every week? Not only are they a great barometer about how Michigan is recruiting in the Midwest, and not only does Michigan go up against ND for far more of the same recruits than they do most of the Big Ten, but including them gives you more information... for free. Deal with it.

Just my inexperience—I've been doing these for a week now, and certainly don't have it down pat by any stretch. For the straightforward gifs I'm using a program that allows me to set frame delay, but I might start saving those as frames and doing that part in Photoshop, where I have a little more control. With a little more practice I should be able to smooth these out.

For space purposes—given the amount of pictures I upload, I need to pay for a premium account—these have to be on Flickr. If an enterprising mgoblogger wants to save the originals, upload them to imgur, and post the link here, I have no problem with that; I'm certainly not trying to deprive our deployed friends of being able to see them.

They're pretty easy to do (the Ryan one took about an hour and a half, but that involved extensive photoshopping). The plan right now is to do a Monday gifs post, so they'll be a regular feature from here on out.

Suggestions are always welcome, by the way. If people notice something particularly interesting or funny that happens on the broadcast—especially during home games, when I don't have the benefit of watching on TV—please email me or hit me up on Twitter. This includes stuff like "sad fan is sad"—especially so if there are sad Juggalos on Saturday.
