Better than a Fairley happy ending. Which of course is where Nick Fairley massages you to a full release or injuries himself trying.
|33 weeks 6 days ago||So...||
he should show flashes of being a great offensive perimeter player while being on a team where he is the fifth option? The four guys a head of him are all-stars or potential all-stars. The beauty about KCP is he pressures the ball and has some height and athleticism. I actually think Dumars made the right move here.
Your starting 5 if you drafted Burke is
Burke, Stuckey, Smith, Drummond and Monroe.
I personally don’t like having a 6’5 Stuckey (really about 6’3) being my tall guard or a starter.
The starting 5 with KCP drafted is
Jennings, KCP, Smith, Drummond, and Monroe with Stuckey finding a role as a versatile of the bench guy. That lineup has 3 extremely athletic defenders on it with excellent height and length. The only real defensive weaknesses are Monroe (which is a bit overblown) and Jennings, who is going to finish the year as one of the top assists guys in the NBA.
Also the eventual test to see if Burke reaches his potential is how his style translates to the NBA. I kept hearing draft analyst worry that Burke’s style and size put him at high risk of injury sense he creates so much contact. Over the next 3-5 years let’s see how Burke holds up. I hope he is a great pro, but I am pretty happy with KCP.
|33 weeks 6 days ago||I agree, but...||
it would all depend on two things with Dillman.
1. I think they want to get an established passer committed to the program before they take a gamble on an athlete who has a very awkward release (not sure on arm strength). They get a solid passer I can see them trying to pull that kid in as an athlete.
2. How does the kid feel about the possibility of changing positions? If he feels that he must be a quarterback, he might be disappointed if there isn’t room for him there.
I would agree that he looks like such a strong runner that you want to get that type of kid in the program and it gives you another commit from California. Personally I would want to offer him just to make sure he doesn’t sign with Urban Meyer or Rich Rodriguez. They have a history of taking poor passers that can run and making them excellent college players.

From what I understand there is a magical formation that uses ninjas and rainbows but no tight ends. We could always use a variaton of this offense. The concern would be that it is basketball on grass...the positive is Michigan is getting better at Basketball!
I just wish we could find an example of this offense working at the college level, it would be cool if like 8 of the top 10 college offenses were one of these magical ninja teams. Alas no such luck.

I think there was some anger from the whole F5 on the amount of money that they generated for UofM and companies like Nike. It must have seemed so completely unfair to a group of 19/20 year old kids. So maybe Webber does feel like UofM "owed" him something. I'm not saying that he is right but you could make the arguement.
If it was legal what would UofM be willing to pay Webber and the Fab 5 for the exposure they received and product sales?

135 on cleans...that is sad...HIT training does not have to be done on machines. It is just an overload technique that goes to muscle failure. If you ever look at the Barwis Method everything is based on your Max output. Sets, Rep range and percent of max changes daily for 10 weeks to reach a desired result.
|3 years 27 weeks ago||Gittleson had decided to use||
Gittleson had decided to use more machines than free weights and few/no olympic lifts. That is where he fell behind. The reason why Michigan was "manhandled" is they are one of the youngest teams in D1 ball. No matter who the trainer is it takes time to develop players.
|3 years 27 weeks ago||I have no problem with Buddy||
I have no problem with Buddy Morris. He is another guy who really develops a complete player. I like some of Barwis's splits better but they are similar programs. I have seen the prehab work that they do in the offseason and for the most part it is just basic rehab exercises that they would do at any clinic...not sure how they could not help with injury prevention...unless they have changed some things in the last year.
In an 8 month period my players do 3 months of Barwis offseason training (1 Week Testing, 2 Weeks Size, 8 Weeks Max Strength,1 Week Testing) 10 Weeks of an adjusted Westside Barbell program (1 Week Prep, 8 weeks power, 1 Week Testing) Finished with a 10 week Strength/Cardio Training before the season begins (Alternating weekly between Strength and cardio workouts)
The next 4 Months is in season training...Lift Heavy 2 days a week with prehab and Functional.
As a coach we don't just use Barwis Methods but it is a staple of our program...I again believe that there are many great trainers out there who do can do amazing things at the D1 level. Barwis is just damn good.
|3 years 27 weeks ago||I have had this argument way||
I have had this argument way too many times. I attend 3 or 4 S+C clinics each year. I am have been around the midwest and the south looking for "new and improved" techniques in building athletes and the Barwis was by far the most complete trainer I have seen.
He breaks down every area to the science, balance, core, explosion, injury prevention, strength, speed and so on. Also his staff was impressive...his underboss was the strength coach for the Ravens...He did a great job. I am not saying that the next S+C guy will not do a good job...I am saying Barwis is an industry leader, not just another name in the pack.

I do think it is a good offense to run as a change up. It puts a lot of stress on the secondary to come up for run support and still remain pass sound. I think going to a 4-3 could be just what the doctor ordered for us. Roh and Van at the ends, Martin and the corpse of Will Campbell at the tackles...could be a nice mix.
I think the hybrid guys could be helped by being in a more defined position. The problem is some of them need to drop weight and get faster and others need to gain weight and become true linebackers. I think it is possible but gaining weight and learning to play a position fast takes a time...we may see this pay off in two years with the hybrid guys (the problem is in two years we will have 0 D-line players and will be forced to run the first 0-6-5)

That is my point, people don't want to give Barwis his due. Talent is Talent. Barwis just takes that talent and makes it faster and stronger. Also he got our players back to doing free weights and olympic lifts (no snatch...lol snatch). Every major program in the counrty is doing olympic movements...Michigan during the Pizza Monster era moved to Machine based lifts...we had fallen behind the science of training powerful football players and currently we are catching up .
I counter the dumb Jake Long argument with my dumb "Denard rushed for more yards than any QB in history" argument. Does this mean that Barwis is the greatest S+C coach in mobile QB history?

Lol yes I know nothing about S+C conditioning. The football/powerlifting coach who is a member of the NSCA and goes to 4-5 S+C clinics every year.
Barwis trains in all areas as they relate to football. When we talk about injury prevention, dynamic flexibility, core traing, strength/power, speed training, balance and funtional training...we see someone who gears his programs toward winning football games. I guess the reason why I know this is I have seen his workouts. It is really difficult to find an area where our players are lacking in training.

I think numbers do matter when judging a S+C coach. His job is to make players fast and strong, so the measurables do matter for his job. All he can do is max out a kid’s athletic ability. Please don't tell me we are expecting Barwis to coach football techniques? Barwis has had a bunch of freshmen and sophomores. LC's teams under the Pizza Monster's regime seemed to always underachieve the last 5 years or so. If RR goes Barwis will go with him and whatever school gets him will be the better for it.

what leads you to believe that 3-3-5 can't work? Please don't tell me it is from 1 year of freshmen running the system? I think any system can be effective if run right. It all depends on how the coach wants them to take thier first step. I have always lined my players up between 4 1/2 and 5 yards. My LB's read step is a forward-angled step, so I want them farther off the ball and to get down hill. From having watched Hobson's drill tapes his LBs take a flat shuffle read step...I know that Robinson is the coach now but for the guys who have worked with Hobson for 2 years it would seem that this is something that is carrying over. Also with as much blitzing as Michigan did the last couple of weeks it could just be reflective in the way he has sent his ILBs.

Herbie was on ESPN talking about that unless ND makes a BCS bowl that BigTen teams out earn ND by 10 Million a year...If they make a bowl then the B10 still out paces them by 5 mil or so. How can ND look at their current deal and feel good that Indiana and Northwestern are making more in Football TV revenue? If a strong 14 or 16 team Big 10 can earn an estimated 30-40 Million then it seems that ND is not in a position to demand a sweet deal. If they had any leverage then NBC would be paying them Big Ten Network money and that isn't going to happen when you’re pulling 2.2 and 2.4 rating draws the last two years and that 2.4 represents the best ratings for ND in 10 years. Now ND is not desperate even with an outdated and terrible TV deal they still pull in a ton of Money for the football program (60 Million or so) but it still seems like better business to join the BigTen with or without a Sweet Deal.

Witty is not returning he is enrolled at Cincy. He starts there next semester...or so says the Bearcats introduction packet that they send out to high school coaches.
oh and I will bet that Rich Rod called his buddy Butch Jones and told him that the kid didn't qualify and tried to help not only Adrian out but his former assistant.
|4 years 11 weeks ago||Warren I guess just did more||
Warren I guess just did more with less and people respect him for it. I mean if you compare Junior seasons of both players Warren is the better player...with 4.6-4.7 speed and only a loose grasp of the english language he still out performed the uber athlete that was one Morgan Trent.
Oh and I am not bashing Trent but any idea that the guy was anything besides an ok player is just wrong...he was an ok college player and ok college players go in the 6th round...I think we can all live with that. 3rd round pick corners are top 10-15 corners in the country...I don't think anyone wants to include Trent in that conversation. That does not mean he sucks, it just means he isn't on that level.
|4 years 11 weeks ago||Yes he is a Nickel corner||
Yes he is a Nickel corner (the 5th best DB) He was inconsistent his whole college career and had to be moved to a position in the NFL that better suited his talents as a marginal corner at the NFL level. He was drafted in the 6th round because he had a very good workout...which we all knew he would have. If he had performed better during football games he would have been a 2nd or 3rd round pick...he didn't and he wasn't. These sure seem like facts when you look back.
4.47 - 40
23 - Bench Reps
4.01 - Shuttle
38 inch Verticle
He was a top performer in almost every drill he participated in, except the "on-field performance drill"
Here is Nfl.com pre draft analysis
“Trent had a lot of starts in college and he runs pretty well. He's fast in workouts but does not play to his timed speed. He's not a good tackler. There have been questions about his backpedal and he struggles in route recognition, but his athleticism gives him a chance.”
Where is the part where it says...he was really good but his D-Cord and Head Coach fucked him? I must have missed it.
|4 years 11 weeks ago||I was saying that there were||
I was saying that there were so few Nickel situations that teams wouldn't have to carry as many DB's. Since there would only be 5 snaps a game that would be nickel situations there would be fewer nickel corners in the league. I guess I never got around to making that connection...sorry.
|4 years 11 weeks ago||I wish someone would write an||
I wish someone would write an article about how much his draft stock would have improved if he had not been burned continually throughout his career.
Also the guy is a Nickel. He didn't go into the league and lock people down like Champ Bailey. He is the 5th best DB on his team...maybe worse. At Michigan he was expected to shut guys down and could not do it. This seems like an indication that Trent does not have the skill set to be a top DB at the next level. 6th round seems about right for a Nickel corner. Oh and if it wasn't the emergence of more Spread packages (Thank You Spread Pioneer Coaches Like Rich Rod) he would be out of a job. If teams still ran more power football sets teams would go with an extra linebacker not a nickel corner. 10 years ago Trent would play about 5 snaps a game.
Also I would have drafted him in the 6th round just to have his mom at our games.

where is this "Shembechler" you speak of?
|4 years 19 weeks ago||your not damaging JT Floyd's||
your not damaging JT Floyd's development because he is probably a backup or nickle when he is fully developed. So Having Woolfolk, Dorsey and Turner as your corners in important since you will probably have to start all three of them at some point. Also in a 10 person list of safties you have to have one guy that can cover. I hope Cam Gordon can be a deep safety for us...I know some people saw him developing as a LB but coming over from Wideout you would hope he has enough speed to not get beat deep.

|4 years 19 weeks ago||Yes education is good...but||
Yes education is good...but 250,000 that can be used to not only pay to finish your degree but even in a simple money market account be enough to payoff your kids college. If he was able to find 5 percent in returns he would double that money in 15 years which would be 500,000 to give to his kids or a charity. No one said not to get your degree, but to leave that type of money on the table because you are finishing up a degree that you are in pace to have in the spring...1 semester....he could finish the damn thing in a year and have a degree. I mean he does plan to play this season right? Well what about having some loyalty to your current employer who is paying you MILLIONS of dollars. My point was he can have both and not only be a good example to your children but add to their financial future.
I think that this is a terrible decision based on timing not on intent.
Also when you consider that the average American will work for 50 years with a degree and barely break a million for his life time...a 250,000 bonus represents 8-10 years of average american pay. We can't just be seals and mindlessly clap that he got his degree. The smarter/wiser decision is to get both.

Man I could have sworn someone invented online classes a few years ago. I must have been wrong. Also how long would it take for his ag degree to generate the 250,000 he just passed on. To understand why the SS is the deep safety imagine that there is a run power and a pass power call.
Your SS (deep safety) goes with the Pass Strength of the formation. Not the run strength.
This is how I always assumed they broke it down.
SO if you have TE right and Trips left, you may want your run strength to the TE but you need your pass strength to the trips...I could be absolutley wrong but I have seen others do something similar to this.

As an outsider looking in, it looks like he just didn't work the way he should have before the combine. I hope his pro day is much smoother and he can impress some people. The difference for most of these runs is technique and start. If improves those two things he can run a 4.4,4.5 in two weeks. He won't be any faster but he'll time better. If that makes any sense.
Maybe there is some injury we don't know about or he made a HUGE mistake coming out early.
|4 years 21 weeks ago||It's not a matter of who. He||
It's not a matter of who. He is a lefty specialist. I watched him pitch a ton last year and he really doesn't have the stuff to go through a rotation more then once. Also he makes a lot of mistakes with pitches that end up being home runs and don't think that will change because of comerica park. He was pitching to righties and giving up homers to a very deep left field.

Cromartie for that price is a no brainer. Even if he can't tackle he is a pretty good cover corner in a division with Farve, Rodgers and Cutler. He could have 10 interceptions in division games alone, or hell maybe only games against the Bears.
|4 years 21 weeks ago||Galarraga can't reproduce his||
Galarraga can't reproduce his 08 numbers unless he is the luckiest pitcher in baseball again. His flyball rate is really high and unless people hit them at people he is going to struggle. Don't get me wrong he can be that #5 starter for you just don't get your hopes up that he can be a 2 or 3 pitcher in the Majors. Willis and Bondo have the most upside but also seem to be the biggest question marks. If Bonderman bounces back to his 07 form (thats a big bounce) Detroit will win the Central. If not they may still win the Central but will get shit hammered by NY,Bos,Tampa, or whoever shakes out from the west.
Also it seems more exciting to be a Tiger's fan this year since you guys have the young kids competeing for time...like Jackson and Sizemore. As a Yankees fan I am really glad we arn't depending on rookies to produce but it would be nice to see some more young talent getting a chance this year like Detroit has.

|4 years 21 weeks ago||I'm not sure...our defense||
I'm not sure...our defense has Big Ten level talent with MAC level depth. He will get the blame if they fail but some of this situation is out of his control. I personally feel that the defense is still a year away from being an average B10 defense.
|4 years 21 weeks ago||I think that it also depends||
I think that it also depends on how the offense plays. If we are scoring 30+ a game but only win 6 or 7 due to our defense still being in shambles I could see Rich Rod getting another year since we are still sooooooo fucking young on defense. I can already feel Gerg getting set up as the "Oswald" like fall guy if we struggle at all.

So the question is what is Mr. Lawson's Core GPA

It has to be Dantonio. From what I've heard we kinda negative recruit against him as well.
Remember when Dantonio was pulling for Ohio State to beat UofM even though if Michigan won State would go to the Rose Bowl?
Well it seems that gets brought up to recruits who are seriously considering State. In some form of "How do you play for a guy who would rather win personal grudges than see his team play in the BCS? Does a guy like that have your best interest at heart?".
I have heard this from multiple people but it could all be bullshit. Personally I think it is true and it really doesn't bother me since it is a fair question to ask a recruit...but still a little dirty.

|4 years 28 weeks ago||Oh and as far as shutting||
Oh and as far as shutting down coaches that has to do with pacing. They want the pace to be hellish. So they don't want coaching on the field, they want it off to the side. Get a fresh body in there and coach the offender somewhere else. I think this goes back to my earlier point that Gerg wanted to be the guy to coach them not his assistants. So coach Rod had to move things along.
It isn't because the defense doesn't matter it is more about recreating game conditions on the field
|4 years 28 weeks ago||Having attneded 3 practices||
Having attneded 3 practices last year the practices were always divided up evenly. Whenever there are drills both the offense and defense are going. When they scrimmage everyone has a chance to work. The things I did notice is that Gerg is usually the only voice the defense is hearing while they are on the field. While the offensive coaches are constantly chirping at offensive players. I believe this is because Gerg brought in a new defense and tackling system. He possibly did not want the wrong information being conveyed to the players.
This was consistant last year during spring and fall practice. I have a feeling this year will be different since the staff has learned his ways as well as the players.

|4 years 30 weeks ago||the difference is how this is||
the difference is how this is done...I bought a manual and transfered it to excel sheets for my high school players.
Everything is based on a percentage of your max. So the first thing you need to do is figure out your 1-rep max in all of those exercises.
There are basicly 85 individual workouts going on every day...there are 4 different workout plans "Backs Hypertrophy", "Backs Max Strength", "Line Hypertrophy" and "Line Max Strength". Each player may stay in one of those types of workouts for a different amount of time based on their needs.
As an example the first week Backs Hypertrophy you are doing 56% of your 1 rep max...usually for sets of 10 or 12 with limited breaks 45 seconds to a minute. The pace can be brutal when you do things like...
That means Upright Row, Clean and Jerk, Push Press, Push Press and Bent Over Row...you do this for a set of 8...which if you have lifted weights you can imagine how brutal it truely is.
After you have completed the weight portion of the day you go in to prehab, core, and balance and functional...you do this three times a week. Each of those other catagories is an addtional mini workout.
It is the combination of all of these things that make Barwis's Workouts so intense and effective. Everyone lifts weights, he puts a little more science behind how to create better football players.
Oh and just so you know after 1 year of these workouts the team I coach went 10-1 our first loss coming in the state playoffs. Not bad for a 6-4 team the year before. It did make a difference.

Man the 21 (now 22) year old who got promoted to AAA this year struck out 123 times and still batted 300...Crazy.
When Granderson was 21 he was still in Single A ball...(also he only hit 3 HRs there)I am not saying that Austin Jackson will be better then Grandy but he has the potential to be a great player for the tigers.
Also considering that they just got a player who is younger and has played better then Cameron Maybin it seems like a good deal.
I think Coke will be a good fit in Detroit and I believe both the pitchers from Arizona could be number 2 or 3 starters in MLB given some seasoning.
Please also consider that Detroit just got 10 times the value then Minny got for Santana.
Granderson is a very good defensive outfielder and it will allow the yankees to sign Damon as a DH.

Maybe the coach from Utah...probably Not
Jim Harbaugh...I think that ship has sailed.
Really you want to bring a MAC coach in? I mean be realistic. The program can be good but I truly believe that national relevence will not come around again for a very long time.
I know I am being crazy...it isnt all doom and gloom, we can be better the Michigan State again just not better then Ohio State or USC or Florida...if your happy with that then fire him and watch it unfold...we may have to schedule Navy to make it to a bowl but whatever.
|4 years 36 weeks ago||It isn't that we couldn't be||
It isn't that we couldn't be a top tier team...we are saying to be a successful coach here...you better be damn good year one or two...or we will make life miserable for you. I don't think you can build a program like that...ever. Some schools get lucky but not with the lack of talent we have here. Also we are committed to the spread because of the talent we have brought in...not just a spread package but 100% spread team...so for us to not go through another hellish rebuilding we need to hire a spread coach...that cuts your possible hires way down...also lets be real who runs this offense better then RR? Meyer runs his form of it pretty well...Mouse Davis, Butch Jones...Hell Butch Jones is from Rich Rod's coaching tree and I will tell you that the blocking between the two systems is completely different.
We can bring in a more traditional coach but then we have 3 year slot ninjas transfering because they no longer fit the way Mallet didn't fit Rich Rod...I think it is the cycle that kills us. I hope I am wrong but I have watched ND become footballs laughing stock and we can become that again.
Also all the teams we mentioned that bounced back into National programs are in recruiting hotbeds. Will Nebraska be a true dominate power again? Probably not, will WVU ever really be relevent in the National title hunt? Unless they find a top coach and give him time I really doubt it.
