|18 weeks 11 hours ago||Play-by-Play on the radio is not rocket-science||
Assuming someone has a smooth delivery and a pleasing (not grating voice), then there are only a few keys. Having done play-by-play and color on radio in my younger days, I learned quickly what the main keys are.
1. THIS IS ESSENTIAL: Remember you are the EYES of your audience, PAINT A PICTURE with words.
2. Know your sport.
3. Don't talk TOO much, but describe what you see, clearly.
4. Let the Color guy explain WHY something worked or didn't. P-B-P tells what happens and the color tells why.
Brandy will be fine and Dierdorf knows the game and can explain it well. I think the choice is great. Two Michigan pals that know each other and love the Uof M. I'm looking forward to listening again. Now if they could just fix the delay issue when I'm on my couch.
|19 weeks 4 days ago||DG gets a pass right now, he's been in a boot for||
His timing was off, his accuracy was well...atrocious and he didn't seem to have much feel for what was happening with the defense. Much of that is attibutable to being disconnected since the OSU game.
That aside, with it being the SPRING "game" err...practice, no one looked game ready except maybe Frank Clark.
If the Oline doesn't make significant strides between now and Aug 30 and DG doesn't find some consistency near the level of the OSU and ND games, the defense may be the only thing to get Hoke to 2015.
It wasn't pretty, it wasn't even encouraging, but it is only April. I remember Urbz saying his team was terrible last spring and they looked it, but they won 12 before losing to MSU and then Clemson. It is possible to get better.
If DG plays inconsistently for the first four weeks and Michigan loses a couple of games early, I hope and expect that Morris will get a shot and DG can go back to WR. With the very little evidence we have, it looks like this season will be a struggle give the stateof the OLine and the QB position, but the sample size is incredibly small.
I'm glad I didn't go the Spring 'Game'. It's not a game, it's a practice and the B1G network probably isn't very happy about it. The 1-11/2 hours of whatever that was wasn't really broadcast worthy.
BTW, any word on who will be the radio voice for Michigan Football in 2014?
|28 weeks 6 days ago||I wrestled with the decision for months, before deciding||
late in the season that I would not be renewing. This upcoming season will be the first in 58 years when my family has not been a season ticket holder. Old habits die hard. If I go, it will be at the hands of scalpers.
Sorry Dave, just can't justify the extortion any longer.
|30 weeks 3 days ago||Respecting Sherman's skill is easy, the overall person||
not so much. I get the being amped up thing and being excited that you just made the play to go to the SuperBowl, but his "excitement" seems a lot more like anger to me.
My biggest problem with him is he seems to always insult someone personally in each interview. He calls Crabtree "mediocre", he calls Skip Bayless "ignorant".
I am certainly no judge on who is the best corner in the league, but I can tell you one thing...
If someone is the best, truly THE BEST at something, they shouldn't have to tell anyone. Because, if you are truly the best at something, everyone else already knows. If you have to keep telling everyone in every interview that you are the best at your job, then you must not be the best because you think you need to announce it all the time.
Calvin Johnson is the best example of this. He is virtually regarded as the BEST receiver in the NFL right now. The only player that would strongly disagree is Dez Bryant (enough said there). Calvin Johnson has never done an interview where he says, yells or even hints that he is the best. He proves it on the field and everyone ELSE is saying it.
THAT IS CLASS. If you are truly the best, you skill and performance will prove it, you don't need to tell everyone.

|31 weeks 2 days ago||As a college head coach his theory||
was to play field position, try to pin the opposition deep and capitalize on their mistakes. That might work against 18-22 yr olds, but in the NFL it's a QB driven points-scoring league. You won't win many games 17-3. Gotta score points to win.
Didn't Tress say 'the most important offensive play is the punt'??? If so, and the Lions make him the OC, they are DOOMED! Tressel scored big numbers on weaker opponents. You don't get to play YSU and Troy in the NFL.
This entire hiring fiasco is so typical of the Lions - don't get your first choice and take what's available and hope you can at least compete. WCF just wants butts in the seats. When they go 18-30 over the next three years you will all see how bad of a hire this whole thing is.
|31 weeks 2 days ago||By the end of 2014 Calvin Johnson will demand||
to be traded. The offense is officially dead and if it's true Tressel is coming also, possibly as OC, this team will never win more than 6 games per season.
You can't play ball control/field position offense in the NFL. The league is built for offense and the Lions are officially doomed for another 50 years.
Worst organization in Professional sports. Period. End of Story. No one wants to come to Detroit.
|33 weeks 5 hours ago||I have thought about this as well.||
Hoke always emphasizes the B1G Championship as the main goal. Well that goal is short-sighted now that the Rose-Bowl will be part of the playoff system no the end all-be all for the B1G. Teams in the SEC, USC and Texas only taslk about National Championships. Michigan has always talked about conference championships.
You have to set your sights higher than you want to go just to have something to shoot for.
|33 weeks 1 day ago||I am praying that the Lions hire Whisenhunt.||
What he did in Arizona and has been doing with Phillip Rivers is just what the Lions need. Lovie Smith was only good in the NFC North when he had a dominating D. I think he'll be a career .500 coach.
I see things going down this way: Schiano goes to PSU, Lovie Smith goes to Tampa Bay, Whisenhunt to Detroit, not sure who goes to Washington, and the unluckiest of them all ends up in Cleveland. The Browns have replaced the Lions as the worst job in the NFL.
|33 weeks 1 day ago||The Texas HC has to do a lot of ass-kissin' to those very||
rich boosters and a lot of glad-handing ans SMILING! Dantonio is a very good coach, but he's not an ass-kisser and he only smiles twice a season.
Texas will hire Fisher, Malzohn or Briles. That job is probably the best in the country and requires a coach that can adapt to that way of life and the style of football that Texas highschools runs, which is predominantly a spread attack. Is it any wonder that virtually every school (college) in that state and most of the ones around run a spread attack?
Texas may find that Mack Brown was the perfect Texas coach and they might hire/fire a few coaches before they get their 'Saban'.
|33 weeks 3 days ago||Get Fred J to retire, hire Mike Hart to replace him||
And let Hart light a fire under these guys. He would make sure the pilot is lit and these kids wanted hit someone. The team seems to take on the personality of their coach and Hoke is WAAAYYYY too laid back.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||If Michigan doesn't make any changes||
to the staff (which is most likely) and the results of player development remain the same, and Hoke's road record and record against ranked teams remains the same, a 7-5 seaosn is about right.
ND, MSU and OSU will be ranked and heck MInnesota might be ranked by then. Based on the horrible preparation and execution this season, I don't see any guaranteed wins except maybe App State and possibly Miami. All the rivals on the road, plus no top Olinemen returning and no pass rush...I'm scared.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||Hard to see the future, always so much emotion in||
it. Seriously though, based on how this year went with everyone thinking 9-3 or 8-4 and the both sides of the ball struggling, if Hoke doesn't make some changes, I don't see much different than this year. Not trying to be negative, but there isn't much evidence that anything will be markedly better than it was this year. No studs on the O line, the secondary still slow and weak, the Dline gets no push...
If Borges calls games the same way and the defense is swiss chees like it was this year, then I say 7-5. Minnesota is getting better and Indiana can push our defense. I just don't see a lot of change from this year.
If Hoke goes 0-3 against the rivals in 2014, then by DB's standards he should be gone after next year because he is no better than RR was. This program has been losing ground to MSU and OSU for the last three years at least and the gap is wider now than any time in the last 20 years.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||ghost, open your eyes, no matter||
how much you hate to admit it, MSU has a better program right now and a much better coach. His players develop and produce and his defenses are light years ahead of Michigan's. Yeah MSU lost 6 games last year, but they won 11 this year and 11 two other times and they compete for the B1G championship almost every year. Michigan hasn't been remotely close to B1G championship worthy in seven years.
MSU has the best football program in the state at this point whether you want to admit it or not. If Hoke doesn't make some serious changes and fast, Michigan will be starting a coaching search after next season. The alumni and donors won't give DB much more rope.
If this was Texas or Alabama, Hoke would be gone already. DB took a chance on Hoke because of his love for theUniversity and the program. The problem is, the results point to him not having the coaching ability to go along with it.
We are at year three of RR all over again. Regardless of the overall records, the end result is about the same.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||If you go by the results of the events||
both sucked. Both fights were over in 2-3 rounds. The Silva match ended ugly I guess. The bowl game was a yawner and UM never showed up, much like the fans that DIDN'T go to BWW.
UFC fans are probablygonna buy more, drink more and party harder than football fans. So I get that, but to down play your own corporately sponsored event is bad PR and marketing. Just sayin'.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||SwordDancer, I have less faith in Brandon||
than in this coaching staff, so that's a resounding -1. If you are correct, he would force Hoke to clean house. That won't happen. Maybe Fred Jackson retires and maybe one small coachin change happens, but Hoke for some unknown reason believe this staff can fix this.
It's a dumpster fire (or a couch fire) and it's gonna catch ther Big House on fire soon. There will be a lot of unsold tickets going into next season. Brandon probably lost another 1,000 season ticket holders tonight. He lost me after MSU. I wouldn't pay those ridiculous prices to watch that pathetic display. At least at home I can turn the channel.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||crickets...||
No one has much if any faith in this staff. Except the staff themselves. If they look in the mirror and are HONEST, they know they are in over their heads. Which should be rolling , but won't because Hoke would walk to AA for the job blah blah blah.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||Can we move to the MAC||
The East divison of the B1G is going to be too tough for this program next year. Michigan will struggle to finish fourth in the B1G East next season.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||Borges, Mattison, Funk, Jackson, Mattison and...||
maybe even Hoke need to go. The first four definitely. This program is a mess and spiraling down the drain. We are looking at MSU as something to aspire to and OSU is a galaxy away.
It doesn't look good. If hoke retains this entire staff, he will be gone after next year.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||we got out-coached AGAIN||
All three phases and all four quarters. This staff is in WAAAYYY over their heads. NO MORE MICHIGAN MAN crappola. It just doesn't matter. Get a coach that knows the game and develops talent and can recruit.
At this point all Hoke can do is recruit. Let's see what the attrition is and we'll have a better idea where this program is headed. I hate to look.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||Why does Mattison get a free pass??||
The defense sucked all season. They were RR bad in the last two games. Just cuz he was at the Ravens doesan't make him great. The evidence of the regression of the defense says he is as bad as Borges if not worse.
Not one coach on this staff is doing a good job. It might be time for a true NON-MIchigan coach. Someone who knows football and doesn't care about traditions and history that DON'T MATTER WHEN YOU DON'T WIN!!!
|33 weeks 4 days ago||Is this program ANY better than it was when Hoke arrived??||
Not saying RR should have stayed, but it looks like things are the same or worse three years in.
I think Hoke is in over his head, his coordinators are only good when they have superior talent, which they don't. This whole staff is guessing and grasping at straws. The program is in real trouble and will be third or fourth in their own division next season.
There is very little hope as things stand.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||Shane played well. He will be fine||
He could be great if we get a true QB coach and an OC that has a clue. I worry about the results though with the schedule and the new conference alignment. I just don't see Michigan competing for the division championship next year much less the conference championship. And if next year goes badly, whoa.
No matter what, I thought Shane did fine tonight, much more poised than I expected and should be a fine QB in the future.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||This staff proved yet again that they||
have no idea how to make in-game adjustments. They can't adjust to what the opposition does and take advantage of a situation. Mattison seemed good at it his first season, but has gotten worse the last two years. Borges just seems lost. It may be execution also, but that still comes back to coaching. The kids aren't prepared to play and don't learn from their mistakes.
It's very sad to see what Michigan football has become. This program is a middle of the B1G program and beginning next year with the new division splits...Holy Shit this program is in trouble. Michigan will be at best, third in the division when the season starts and probaly worse than that by year's end. I think after next year the program starts all over again and it'll be five years before Michigan truly COMPETES for the B1G championship.
We have become MSU and they are us. This is sad.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||Sean McDonough said it all just before UM scored it's last||
TD, he couldn't believe that Michigan's offense only gained more than 175 yards in one of the last 5 games and that OSU. They barely got 200 in this game. Borges, Funk, Jackson and the enitre S & C staff need to go. This team is weak (compared to competition) and they get pushed aroundby everyone, including UConn and ... everyone.
If massive changes doon't happen soon, Hoke and the entire staff will be looking for new jobs after 2014. I've lost my faith in this staff.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||It seems very evident that if Mattison doesn't have great talent||
he's no better than any other DC. This defense has no studs except Ryan and as a result, the secondary ist STILL terrible and SLOW, the D line gets no penetration and the LBs miss their gap assignments routinely.
In other words this defense SUCKS! Changesa need to be made.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||I have lost 98% of my faith in Hoke and this entire staff||
They regressed massively after ND and played well against OSU because it was OSU. This whole staff better take a long look in the mirror because they were terrible this eason.
Most of the Offensive staff need to go and the defense isn't very good either. Maybe Mattison isn't the answer. There isn't one facet of this team that was good this season. Brandon better have some hard conversations with Hoke about this staff.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||At this point, the only good thing about 2014||
is the football season is a long way off. Hopefully some massive changes happen because if they don't, next season might be worse. Hopefully we hold on to all our recruits. This program needs them to rebuild this program.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||Has one coach prepared their group for this game??||
Shane Morris was OK in the first half, but the entire offense has been pathetic in the second half. The offense looks like RR year 1 and the defense looks like RR year 3.
Hoke needs to be honest and ADMIT they have done a terrible job and changes need to be made. If at least three changes don't happen in the off-season then Hoke has truly failed. And Fred Jackson doesn't count. The rumors of his retirement make that change necessary and the performance of the RBS just piles on that idea.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||The only thing clicking is the clock winding down||
on an otherwise horrible Michigan football season. The bright spots are few and far between. If there is great talent on this team, I haven't seen it. Whether it's infinitely young or horribly coach or both I don't know, but based on the current amount of evidence, the future looks very bleak. Aside from Morris, but a couple of years under Borges and he'll regress probably.
|33 weeks 4 days ago||Fuck. Someone needs to be fired after this shitty||
season. You just get the feeling this entire staff has an immunity necklace and we'll see all the same jokers on the sideline next season.
Basketball won't even be a relief without McGary.
God this sucks.
Schwartz better get canned after Sunday's game.
|33 weeks 5 days ago||7-6 Book It!||
Changes need to be made. But they won't be.
|33 weeks 5 days ago||MaizeRage, while I appreciate your positive attitude||
I have little to no faith that this staff can come up with a defensive answer, if they have had a month already and don't have one. Hoke better figure out who the good coaches on this staff are, because if he goes to battle with this exact staff on both sides of the ball, next year might be THEIR last.
This defense looks RR worthy. And the O line still can't open a hole. Apparently they play better against big rivals and not against anyone else.
OSU must have a terrible defense.
|33 weeks 5 days ago||Is it Mattison or the execution? This defense is terrible||
I understand Lockett is a great Talent, but this defense is SWISS CHEESE so far. And again, Michigan cannot run the ball. Where is Derrick Green? Morris has been pretty good. I knew he had a great arm, but he has shown great touch.
I never thought I would be more concerned about the defense than the offense. Right now, the secondary looks awful.
|34 weeks 4 days ago||What's one more week? Finish this||
dreadful (typical) Lions season and clean house (AGAIN).
I think Mayhew is doing a good job assembling talent, but this staff does nothing with it.
Schwartz is a boob, his endless poor decisions and the inability of the defense to make a critical stop or the offense's inability to hold onto the ball (EXECUTION) is why this staff needs to go. Maybe keep G. Cunningham, but the rest are questionable at best. This team as much talent as anyone in the league and they can't get above .500.
|35 weeks 4 days ago||DB has done some things right and several wrong||
He should have found a way, any way to get Harbaugh to come here. The Student ticket/general admission thing is a HORRIBLE IDEA.
I don't think on a national scale that Michigan is seen as one of the top jobs. Probably top 10, but not mich higher. For the things said earlier, prickly fanbase, stuck in the past and unusually stubborn toward old traditions and ways make this job a little less appealing .
|35 weeks 4 days ago||I said it earlier this week and I still think there is a||
strong chance Urbs goes to Austin. I also thought Saban would go to the NFL to replace Shanahan, but all that seems to be dying out as Saban says he's staying and the Shanahan quiting/getting fired talk has died down. I still think he's leaving for Houston, but don't as sure now.
|36 weeks 1 day ago||There is a huge difference between||
what Brandon would do and what my expectations are. If Hoke wins 9 in '14 and 10 in'15. Brandon will give him anextension and tell everyone "we're on the way..."
Problem is, at that rate, Michigan will still be third at best in the East Division and likely fourth at best in the conference. If Meyer stays at OSU for at least 2 more years, OSU wins 11-12 games each year possibly more. MSU with Dantonio will get better and Hoke will at best be .500 against Michigan's main rivals over the next two years.
We need to face facts, Michigan is not competing for a National title in the next two years, maybe a conference title, but not a national title. OSU is already competing for it and MSU is a year or two ahead of Michigan right now.
If Hoke goes 7-5 or 8-4 in '14 and 9-3 in '15. Brandon better be looking because the elite of the conference and certainly the country will have pull way ahead of Michigan.
|36 weeks 1 day ago||It has been said, but OSU is not in the same class as the Texas||
job. Texas is probably the No 1 job in the country. The best recruiting bed in the coutry and they will beat down the door to play at Texas. The only place that outdoes football in SEC country is Texas. It's more than religion down there. OSU is the best job in the B1G and certainly in the top 10 in the country, but even with Texas? No way.
I have no facts, just word from someone I know that has contacts in visible places that Urbs went to Austin on Sunday after the Michigan game. If he flew on a buddy's jet and met at someone's house and met several big time people there, it's possible.
The boosters at Texas run that school they have BIG money and they buy what they want and usually get it.
It may not be Urbs, it won't be Saban, he's not enough of an ass-kisser. Saban's mountain to climb is a Super Bowl. He'll get a Parcells type job coach GM and build the roster he wants and see what happens.
|36 weeks 1 day ago||I think Saban will leave Bama, but||
not for Texas. I think he's going to the NFL. Just can't see Saban sucking up to all the rich folk at Texas. He's too much of a total control freak and I think all the ass-kissin' he'd have to do to the boosters that pay him all that money would get in the way of coaching.
Austin is a sooo much better place than Tuscaloosa, but if Saban ain't happy there, he'll be less happy in Austin. He just isn't the cowboy boot lickin' type.
The only thing Saban hasn't accomplished is win in the NFL. He's competeitve ego-maniac. I think he sees Pete Carroll's success and Harbaugh's and wants to prove that he can win anywhere in any league. The NFL is the destination. My guess is Washington and it will happen at the end of the NFL regular season.
Shanahan will end upat Houston and the Texas job...not sure.
|36 weeks 1 day ago||"Dream jobs" only exist until something better comes||
along. It's all a theory, but Cousins is gonna start this week in Washington, Shannahan has been trying to leave Washington since last year and Saban is an egomaniac, he has to be moving forward and Bama is coasting for him. He has two MNCs in a row and is always in the championship mix.
He needs a new challenge and Texas won't be it. It's a latteral move for him.
Just my .02. So basically worthless, but fun speculation.
Narduzzi on the other hand, can do much better than UConn. Could the Rutgers job open up? Or maybe WF or something on that level. UConn doesn't care about football, they are a basketball school.
|36 weeks 1 day ago||None...yet||
Urbs reportedly met with Texas Boosters the day after OSU beat Michigan. And the only mountain left for Saban to climb is the NFL. He failed miserably at Miami and he can see what Carroll has done since his first stint in the NFL and how Harbaugh has done.
What else is there for Saban to prove in college? He doesn't need the money and why rebuild again when you have a dynasty. The NFL is the only place left besides Bama for 3 more years and then TV.
|36 weeks 1 day ago||He's waiting for all the big jobs to open||

I'm not a fan of the Godfather series. I made through the original and never watched another.
I find Colin Cowherd entertaining.
I can't stand the Dan Lebatard show on ESPN Radio and the "narrator" voice that introduces it coming out of breaks. The show is rude to guests and provides to informational value or entertainment for that matter.
I hate doing IT work (17 years in IT and HRIS) and want to be a Storm Chaser.
I think Mark Dantonio is a really good coach(still can't stand him, although never met him).
The NBA has been crap since Bird and Magic retired
The Lions will NEVER win the Super Bowl as long as a Ford owns them. They are soft and Schwartz is a knucklehead.
I'll keep my UM opinions to my self.
|36 weeks 1 day ago||This speculation is the most entertaining stuff right now||
I heard a great and plausible theory.
Brown out at Texas
Urbs to Texas (He allegedly flew to Texas and met with Boosters the day after the Michigan game)
Saban goes to NFL to coach Redskins (only mountain left to climb and Harbaugh and Carroll are doing very well)
Shanahan goes to Houston Texans (He's tried to leave Washington since last season)
That leaves Bama and OSU open. All of it is hilarious to me.
|36 weeks 2 days ago||ESPN says it will happen by the end of the week||
The successor will probably not be Saban(my thoughts). Don't know who, but I bet it's someone a little younger and someone who has been building a resume working up through the ranks of head coaches.
|36 weeks 2 days ago||What about Brian Kelly to Texas?||
He wouldn't have the academic restrictions he has at ND and he would be able to recruit real speed for his offensive style. Not saying he would be the best coach, but to poach the ND coach to Texas would be a fine feather in the 10 gallon hats of Texas.
Of course, if not Kelly, why Jabba? He would have a decided schematic advantage at Texas and could finally recruit the athletes to the level he needs to be successful.. After all he won Super Bowls.
Personally, I don't see Saban leaving. He is the KIng of Tuscaloosa and he can right his own ticket there. The only advantage would be much less competition to an undefeated season if he went to Texas. With WVa, Kansas and TCU in the conference, the Big XII would be much easier than the SEC with LSU, Auburn and whoever else rises up.

He was in favor of the Tat 5 playing in the Sugar Bowl and wanted to let Tressel of the hook. He also was OK with all the crap that Geno Smith said as well as Gorden E. Delany is all about the $$ and he knows OSU travels better than any other team in the B1G and they are more polarizing than any other team in the conference. I was surprized (slightly) that OSU had about 70% of seats last night. That fanbase travels very well.
|36 weeks 4 days ago||I would totally burn a couch or two to win the B1G title.||
Mine are leather so I would buy a couple from Goodwill or Salvation army and burn those. I hope we are in the position to burn some in the near future.
As BrookTrail said in #7 to put together a team like that, they are justified in burning a few couches. For as much crap as we give Sparty, they have an excellent team, a smart coach that develops his players and he gets the most out of his recruits. I still hate Dantonio, but I recoginize that he is an excellent coach.
Congrats to Sparty. Now go Stanford!
EDIT: "Smart coach, not couch"

Gus can make a snoozer of a game seem interesting. I'd rather listen to him and Charles Davis over Spielman and his partner or Thom Brennanman any day of the week. Gus knows his stuff better than Brent M. and freely says "Little Brother" on National TV.
Gus even started the broadcast with a "You're looking live..." stealing Brent's opening schict. You could tell he caught himself but kept on going.
Every time I hear Gus I think of BWW and that can't be a bad thing.
|36 weeks 4 days ago||Things fell into place for Auburn||
They did what they had to do to get there and then MSU helped them out. The are crazy good running the ball. They made Missouri look bad while running the ball. I think the MNC game will be very entertaining.
The only thing I'd like to see is Saban against Meyer in a bowl game this year. I think Bama would beat down the Buckeyes.
Urbs looked very stressed on the sideline. Wonder if his ole ticker can handle it.
|36 weeks 4 days ago||Why is it such a crime to give credit where it's due???||
State had a great season and won when it counted most. I hate Dantonio also, but he is an excellent coach and his staff is developing talent into great football players. They play with an edge, like Michigan used to before 2007.
I rooted for OSU to lose and when Langford ran up the middle to put the final nail in the coffin, I did tha quiet "YES!" State deserves the credit.
But, I will still root for Stanford in the Rose Bowl. And for whoever plays OSU in a bowl game, or any game, anywhere, any time. I fuckin' hate OSU with every fiber of my being.
|36 weeks 4 days ago||Burn all the couches you want, you deserve it||
State played a great game and when it seemed like OSU was imposing it's will, Sparty took it right back. A tough, well-coached team with some great players. That staff is developing some really good talent into great football players.
The RoseBowl may not get the greatest ratings but it will be the best played game of the BCS games. The National Championship game witll be a track meet. Someone might score 60 in that one.
|36 weeks 4 days ago||I'm glad MSU won and I love that Urban lost and isn't gonna||
play for MNC.
ESPN projects OSU v Clemson in the Orange Bowl. I think OSU should play Bama in the Sugar and Oklahoma and Clemson play in the Orange Bowl. Then both games would be interesting. If ESPN is right, both games will be blowouts. Clemson can't hang with OSU and Oklahoma will get drilled by Bama.
FSU v Auburn will be a scoring fest, the O/U should be about 78-84. The Rose Bowl will be an awesome game, much like the Bo and Woody era hard-nosed smashmouth football. The bowls games should be fun.
If Clemson and OSU, I probably won't watch, OSU should beat Clemson fairly easily. Should ber a fun bowl season.
ONly thing that sucks is we have a long way to go to get to where MSU is right now.
|36 weeks 5 days ago||When you win a lot against everyone you play||
you eventually get hated. I think having more rivalry games is an advantage. It makes it much harder to mail it in - no opportunities to go through the motions. We haven't handled our rivals very well in the past 7-10 years. Our easiest rival ND is going away to find an easier schedule. MSU and OSU have our number over the last 7+ years.
Michigan has to get batter in the trenches and get meaner if they want to strat making these rivalry games true rivalries again.
|37 weeks 2 days ago||Hire Nick Saban and openly admit that he's the greatest||
coach ever. You have no idea how hard that would be, I might burst into flames before finishing a sentence.
I would condone over-signing and maybe a gray shirt or two. At least do what everybody else is doing.
Tara Reid from 15 years ago, maybe, THAT Tara Reid in the picture??? No WAYY in HELL!
|37 weeks 4 days ago||My expectations are about the same||
Obviously this team has the potential to go 10-2 or 11-1 next year IF the OC coaches to the players strengths like he did yesterday. I still think Borges and Funk are the weakest links in the chain and I'm not sold on Wellman and the S&C team.
I am hopeful and will be more optimistic by next season. Ideally Funk is gone after the season, but I fear this staff will be exactly yhe same next season and we'll struggle in places we shouldn't and REALLY struggle with our rivals. 7-5 or 8-4 at best I fear.
|37 weeks 5 days ago||If I felt Borges would call that strong of a game||
every week, maybe. Problem is he lays too many rotten eggs against very beatable teams. If Borges is as good an OC as he showed today, Michigan wouldn't be 7-5.
I still think Funk needs to go. And WEllman the S&C coach needs to go also. Michigan isn't strong enough.
The body of work over the last two seasons, more weight on this year, grossly outweighs one game against a rival. If this team is as good as they looked today, how does anyone explain Akron, Uconn, Nebraska, NW and Iowa??? In the ned, I'm tire of the Borges Funk debacle.
The team played well today, but Michigan still lost. Michigan is 7-5! That has to play a role.
|37 weeks 5 days ago||Credit to the players, the fans and the coaching staff||
The kids played their hearts out. They were great. The fans represented well and the Red wasn't too bad on TV. The staff had a strong gameplan and yes, Borges called a good game. Not sure where that came from.
I sold my tickets to a UM Dr so I didn't help the RED cause, but I will be honest, I had very faith in this team going toe-to-toe with OSU and competing for 60 minutes.
I WAS WRONG. I thought they had about a 10% chance. I was impressed. I still don't like Borges, but the game was entertaining as hell.
My buddy and I watched on my couch (he's an OSU fan and the one I was going to take to the game. He thought OSU played terribly and I think Michigan played like we all thought they would have all season long.
Changes still need to be made, but the game was fun and I hope D. Hand was watching.
|37 weeks 5 days ago||OSU has been exposed||
They aren't that good. FSU and Bama would wipe the floor with them. Hell, I think MSU might beat them next wekk. The B1G is a BAD conference this year. If you put MSU's defense wnd OSU's offense, they would be the best team in the country by a stretch.
|37 weeks 5 days ago||Borges and Funk and Wellman need to go||
F Jackson needs to retire. The team played well today, like this one mattered. It begs the question, what the hell were they doing against Akron, UConn, PSU, Nebraska, NW and Iowa?
This game proves OSU isn't as good as everyone thinks and that BOrges can't be very good because it only called three good games all season.
Credit to the kids! They played hard and executed very well. They played toe to toe with a senior laden team that the media thinks is a top 5 team.
|37 weeks 5 days ago||You kick the XP and play for OT.||
You give your team a CHANCE to win. Running that play you are either a hero or a goat. But I think Brady dod what he wanted to do today. He proved Borges can call a good game when his players execute, and they did execute for the most part today.
Devin played well on all but two plays, so he played VERY WELL. I watched it at home with an OSU that I would have taken to the game and we both agreed OSU's D played terrible today, but Michigan's offense did play well.
I'm not sure what happened, but Michigan wanted this game more than OSU I think. It would have been nice to break that streak. Unfortunately, I think the entire staff come back next year. So it will be much of the same. This was a 'moral victory.' If there is even such a thing.
|38 weeks 1 day ago||Profwoot, it is so much more than a few bounces||
It's the ridiculously negative rushing yards (yeah, sack # are included), no progression in the offense over the course of the season. Repeated poor decisions from players and coaches that don't get "corrected" and barely beating severely down-trodden programs and losing to teams that are much less talented than Michigan.
Definitely more than a few bounces. I don't see the need to sugarcoat the truth.
|38 weeks 1 day ago||I'm one of those that is relinguishing my season tickets||
I have explained why in other threads so I won't repeat myself, but it has nothing to do with my support of the this team or the program. I am still 100% behind this team, program and Brady Hoke.
I want the team to win, the kids to graduate and be successful. I have simply decided that the stadium atmosphere is not worth so much $$ any more.
GO BLUE! BEAT Ohio!
|38 weeks 2 days ago||Just wait and see, with the debacle looming Saturday,||
a probable beatdown and then maybe another in the loser bowl game and if Hoke remains "loyal" to his staff, there will be many empty seats next season. Al Borges is a black hole to this fanbase. The prospect of forcing some manball crap down everyone's throats will be the undoing of this program.
His stubborness to implement his "system" has cost this team at least three wins this season and who knows how many more next season. I-formation is ancient history. What Bama does and Stanford does, is purely the result of better athletes at positions of need. Each of those schools gets by different means, bu they get there.
Mgrowold, WOW! 40-36 is horrible. OSU has pulled away, MSU has passed Michigan and the BCS elite are so far out of site, it will take years to catch up. The ever-rising cost of sporting events versus the results and take-away for the average fan is an unsustainable model.
Look at the college football landscape, schools all over the country, including Georgia, Florida, and even Bama can't sell all their tickets, students have better things to do and the average joe can't afford it anymore. There are too many things competing for our dollars and .500 football is the first thing to go.
|38 weeks 2 days ago||Rational Fan B||
Been going for over 40 years. Done. The RAWK Music, the cost, the constant noise for 4 hours for a big game. The ever-shrinking parking availability. And on top of it all. The program has regressed over the last 10 years. I can watch every game on my 55" LED w/ Surround sound and never wait in line for anything.
And I can always save my nickels and by tickets to a big game. I'm good with that scenario.
|38 weeks 2 days ago||Well, a little frustration, a little, very little||
emotion from the most stoic coach East of the Mississippi. Finally he is unhappy about something. TOO DAMN BAD IT ISN'T YOUR OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR!!!
MY family has been buying season tickets in that stadium since 1956. After watching the farce of an offense for the last five weeks, I finally said enough is enough.
Yeah, I sold my OSU tickets. Sold them to a Dr. at UM. Didn't cover my ridiculous PSD, but it covered the face value and a little more. The reasons I sold them has nothing to do with supporting my team, or the program or the hard-working players on the team.
It has everything to do with going and having a bunch of drooling mouth-breathers heckel, berate and abuse Michigan fans for for their crapfest of a season. Why suffer through the cold, the wind, the high-priced EVERYTHING to listen to those Columbus assholes and watch Michigan get man-handled for 3.5 hours.
If I felt Michigan had a 50-50 shot at winning and Borges wasn't the stubborn I-formation, play-action OC that he is I might have gone. But why, how in the world can this enimic, punchless offense stand a chance against OSU? Michigan gained 158 TOTAL yards against Iowa.
I will support the team and root from my couch, but I will not spend my hard-earned money to be verbally abused AND have to watch that miserable game plan.
All I can say is, Brandon, you better watch out, the wave is coming and it might just wash away your golden meal ticket. Nothing is guaranteed in this economic environment, but those of us that work for a living and are trying to save a few our $$ so our kids can go to college don't want to watch a stubborn OC ruin a bunch of college careers in an effort to implement "his" system.
Good luck at New Mexico State or wherever I hope you end up next year, Mr. OC.
|38 weeks 4 days ago||The bowl game is only good in one respect||
the team might figure something out that works and have a few plays the opposition doesn't already know is coming. Like the Cap One Bowl against Florida. No one expected Michigan to run a spread passiing attack. I doubt this will happen, Borges is wayy to stubborn. Maybe he's stuck in a time warp and thinks this is 1973.
I will watch and most likely be disappointed by middle of the second quarter, but it will still be football, Michigan football.
|38 weeks 4 days ago||I haven't checked out yet||
I don't get as up or down as I did earlier in the year. I guess I have resigned myself to the fact that this team will more likely lose than win. I think there is a 1% chance that they could even keep it close next Saturday. Like it was said above, at least when RR was here, with Denard and that spread attack, you felt there was always a chance something exciting might happen.
That flame is out now. I have absolutely no faith in Al Borges or this offense to produce anything resembling a "drive". This feels like the RR's first season here. There will be a sign in the stands that OSU loves Brady Hoke. That will be the low point. Dave Brandon will not have a fun day next Saturday or beyond.
|38 weeks 4 days ago||Ummm..Markusr...NO! Bo's first signature win was his first||
game against OSU in 1969. OSU was 22-0 when Bo first team upset OSU. They hadn't lost a game in two years. I believe Woody said it was the best team he ever had, when Michigan won.
Bo had many signature wins and losses (mostly bowl games), but no matter how you stretch it out, Hoke has one big win and that was the Sugar Bowl game with RR's players. This program has gotten worse with every season and the future only looks bright if you believe that recruiting stars actually matter. There is no evidence that this staff is developing its players or that this staf has a clue how to plan for a game. Aside from a few lucky breaks, this team would be 4-7 right now.
There is no truthful description where this team or staff can be described as "good". There is talent on the team, but there is no coaching, not game-planning, no player development that suggests this team will improve.
Next Saturday will be ugly and the stadium will be red, and next season might not be much better, based on the evidence.
|38 weeks 4 days ago||Raback, no offense but you are being an apologist||
for one of the most inept coaching staves in college football. You say they need time to build a roster and time to get uppercalssman in all the positions and blah, blah blah. I say BULL SHIT!
Nick Saban walked into Alabama in 2007 following Mike Shula's failures, where Bama was 6-7 in 2006. In Saban's first year he went 7-6. In 2008 he went 12-2 (8-0) in the SEC, lost the SEC Championship game to Florida and lost to Utah in a bowl game. In 2009 Bama won the National Championship. (His 3rd year as coach).
In 2010 they went 10-3, beating MSU 49-7 in the Cap One Bowl. Bama has won the last two NCs and might win a third in a row.
The problem here is not time, the problem is seeing, developing and working with the talent you have to succeed. Al Borges and Brady Hoke seem lost. They are trying to put a round peg in a square hole. Just like RR tried when he got here. An OC or HC can't force players to play a style they are simply not able to play. Nick Sheridan was not a spread guy and DG et al are not "ManBall"(hate that term) players.
The main reason this team is losing to teams that have much LESS talent is because the coaching staff refuses to scheme to the players strengths. Borges has said it in pressers that they changing the scheme to what they want in the future. "We are two years behind where we want to be and can't wait anymore" - paraphrasing AB.
This staff would rather lose game for the sake of a scheme, than to play to win each game however they have to. Coaches have one main job - WIN! That is it. If they lose consistently, the get fired, plain and simple. Recruiting character players, graduation rates and minimal legal issues are all greatly desired, but those won't keep their jobs.
This staff is in over their heads and most likely will be gone if they are not 8-4 or better next season. Borges is a BAD OC, Funk can't seem to teach lineman how to block and Fred Jackson I think needs to retire. The RBs can't block either and due to the Oline problems, have nowhere to run.
This team desparetely needs a quality QB coach and Hoke needs to understand what the offense is doing. He is just as guilty for the offense as RR was for his lack of defensive understanding.
I can predict two things confidently: there will be a significant drop off in season ticket sales for next season and if this staff remains in tact for next season and this team goes 7-5 or 6-6, they will ALL be gone.
|38 weeks 4 days ago||Salvatore, Michigan is struggling||
because the media, the administration, the fanbase and the frickin AD want the second coming of Bo to walk through the doors and save the program. There is NO MICHIGAN MAN! He died. He's gone. He was a great man and a great coach, but he's gone. "The Team" speech/concept is great, but without coaches that can teach and prepare and players that can execute, it is all just words.
This program will never improve until they let him go and move on. Nick Saban is not any kind Bear Bryant, but that program found a coach that wins everywhere and proved it BEFORE he showed up. Michigan chose a Bo 'type' of guy and it's not working. He and this staff are in WAYYY over their heads.
If Hoke doesn't fire at least four staff then he will fail ultimately as head coach. This program is on the brink of disaster and if he doesn't see it and do something soon, it might be too much to overcome.
|38 weeks 4 days ago||The Game hasn't been a "rivalry" for a while now.||
Michigan has won once in the last 10 years and twice in the last 13. I doubt there will be any mercy Nov. 30. Aside from RR's first trip to Columbus, I have never been more certain of a beating in this series.
I will root and hope the kids play well, but I have zero faith in this staff's ability to prepare the team or create a winning gameplan. It WILL be ugly.
|38 weeks 4 days ago||I always root for Michigan, but the reality is||
Michigan is gonna get smoked next Saturday. Urbs now is "third alone" with no Baylor to scare him. The only way he gets into the BCS Championship game is if 1 or 2 lose. It ain't happenin'.
Michigan needs to move into the 21st century of college football. Michigan needs to remember Bo and say thank you and MOVE ON!. This program is stuck in the 70s. After next Saturday's 53-10 loss, there needs to be a referendum on this staff and this AD. I don't know who could possibly fix this mess, but from Brandon on down, they all need to go and bring in someone with a young fresh approach.
I love Michigan, but this program is going down hill and the empty seats by the third qtr next week will prove it. I sold my FINAL season tickets to a Dr at UM and I will root for MIchigan from my couch. The only thing I am sure of is, it won't be pretty. And I will be rooting hard for MSU Dec. .
|38 weeks 5 days ago||What coach did a good job today???||
...crickets. It was bad in all three phases. The defense didn't tackle well and got run over on the last scoring drive by Iowa. The offense is still horrible. Borges needs to go, but Touissaint really has no strength. He gets taken down by extended arms, not even tackles. Gardner has regressed every week since Indiana. He seems to play scared and I understand that, but then the coaching doesn't help him either. And Special teams gets nothing going, the punting is awful and the kick coverage today was the worst it's been all season.
In, pooprly executed game, and being the 11th game of the season, that's due to terrible coaching. This staff needs to only look in the mirror to see where the problems lie. If Hoke doesn't make major changes, hie job security will be very weak next year.
A REAL OC and a REAL quarterback coach and an OLine coach are a must.
And, byt the way...get rid the legends jerseys, these kids are just not earning them.
|38 weeks 5 days ago||Well Brandon, this is ALL on you. You were better at pizza||
that's not sayin' much.
This is an unprepared, undisciplined and poorly coached team. The ONLY thing they have done right in the five weeks is the FG to go to OT against NW. Other than that both sides of the ball are weak and look lost. If there aren't some major changes after the season, Hole will be coaching for his next job next season.
Gardner should voluntarily give back #98 and go back to #12. It couldn't hurt.
|38 weeks 5 days ago||It's the 11game of the season and these kids||

And the fourth: COACHING. This is a marginal team at best. Next week is going to be ugly.
Asusal, there needs to be some changes on this staff or next year could be worse.
|39 weeks 3 days ago||I have next to nothing to say here||
EXCEPT: Don't mess with the helmet AND no stripes!
Please Dave Brandon: put down your thinking cap, Michigan doesn't need gimmicks. Michigan needs to WIN. Get us an offensive identity and an O Line coach and a real QB coach.
Bama, Oklahoma, USC. These schools don't need gimmicky unis to draw attnetion. Winning will get all the recruits you'll ever need. Helmets that look like Christmas ornamets are for schools with no class.
Stay Classy DB

This staff is being stupid. Borges is so stubborn, he'd rather run an offense they can't run than win games running something other than thel long term plan. He is costing this team any chance to win games.
|40 weeks 1 hour ago||9-3 should be the WORST we have almost every year||
With the facilities, the stadium and the best helmets in the game, we should be be able to get our fair share of top talent. I don't expect a Bama type run either, you can't unless you grayshirt. Which is point. If the B1G limits recruiting to 25/yr while Saban get 30 and 3 of them are 5-stars, we will all fall behind, including OSU.
Michigan can't even compete with OSU right now. Urban has the success and pedigree and the school has a win at all costs mentality. Michigan talks about B1G championships and OSU talks National Championships.
I'm happy with Rose Bowls and the occasional MNC game, but this program needs more of a killer instinct and Hoke needs more of an attitude. I hope things turn around by end of next year, but things look very tough right now. We have to beat NW Saturday or we'll lose recruits and things will start to slide. Borges better have a good game plan, Michigan needs to score at least 30 in Chicago Saturday.
|40 weeks 2 hours ago||Really, moronic? Name a top program that has NOT||
passed us by? Alabama, LSU, Florida, Miami, Texas, USC, Oregon, Stanford, Oklahoma, OSU and most recently MSU. All these programs ahve had a lapse somewhere, but they have rebounded and competed for national titles(except MSU). Michigan, much like ND gets by on it's history and tradition.
The "on a Michigam Man can coach Michigan" meme is a dinosaur. RR made many mistakes, but being a spread coach and offensive genius weren't among them. He wasn't given a chance and the torch ande pitchfork crowd ran him out before he could establish anything.
I hated the defense (or lack of it) that he had, and the smallish O Lines, but he certainly could find weaknesses in opposing teams defenses and exploit it. I think he would make the perfect OC. He was too honest for the media here and they crucified for it. It was a bad fit, but due to MArtin's screw-ups he was the only choice they could get.
Michigan used to be one of the premier jobs in college football, I think now it doesn't make the top 8. If Hoke and his staff can't turn this around in the next two years, this program is in serious trouble. Coaching changes make recruiting bvery hard and the SEC's hold on the south and OSU's success makes the midwest a gamble as well.
|40 weeks 2 hours ago||Carson, why is the worst post of the year?||
because it's not puppy dogs and rainbows?
because it is reality based as opposed to some blind optimism?
I am a true blue Michigan fan and always have been. My dad took me to my first game when I was 3, 44 years ago. I took my son when he was five and we have been going for 57 years. I still get mad and frustrated when they lose.
Through all this, I'm still a realist. The ruling body of college football always leans toward those that are currently succeeding until something forces them to change. Alabama and Nick Saban are working the rules to their advantage and everyone else is falling farther behind.
The B1G as a conference can't compete against the SEC's lack of rules and enforcement, whey do think Urban left. He knew he couldn't compete against Saban and Miles in the long run. Urban unfortunately has a stranglehold on the B1G right now and MSU is his toughest opponent right now.
Michigan and all it's traditions is falling farther behind. As much as I revere Bo and the history of the program, 18-19 yr olds don't care. They listen to Hip Hop and ear-splitting volumes and want crazy bold helmets and uniforms. The game and the culture have changed and the Michigan's and the Notre Dames are struggling to keep up.
The unfortunate truth here is that to keep up with the Bama's of the world you have to look the other way on some things. And you have to be willing cater to the trend of the day, moreso than clinging to the tradition that got you to this point.
I hate the current state of college football and the business it has become, but I love Michigan and will root for and cheer for the Wolverines until I die. That makes seasons like this and truthfully's decades like this very hard to deal with.
|40 weeks 6 hours ago||We can all whine and cry about irrevelancy.||
The facts are simple and they indisputable:
The vast majority of kids don't remember Michigan ever being near the top.
The vast majority of 4 and 5 star players want to go to the NFL
The vast majority of h.s. football players want to play in warm weather and not ever in snow and cold.
The vast majority believe the SEC is the ONLY conference worth a crap.
The vast majority see one or two teams in each of the other major conferences can compete with the SEC. I.E. OSU, Oregon, Stanford, FSU and maybe another I can't think of.
The B1G is OSU and then everyone else and it's REALLY obvious.
The media pushes all these 'facts' and the NDs and Michigans of the world slip deeper into the background.
Warm weather, cute girls and a fast track to the NFL doesn't include Michigan and ND anymore.
Let's face facts, unless the NCAA or some governing body levewls the playing field, it's the SEC elite, OSU and whoever else wants to skirt whatever rules they can to get ahead. If you play by the rules, you can't win anymore. Gray shirts, green handshakes and 'perks' make it almost impossible to field a competitive team to what Bama is producing every year.
Saban would be an IDIOT to leave Bama! Why leave, you have a perpetual motion machine. They sign more highly rated players than anyone else every year. Do the math, as long as 1-year schollies exist, Bama will always be in the top 2 or 3 in the country.

My brother gave his up three years ago and I am giving mine up after this season. Between the PSD, parking and the high cost of simply going and enjoying the day, it's not worth it.
I don't have to fight to keep my space everytime I sit down, I can go to the fridge during a timeout and not miss a thing, never wait in line for food, drink or the bathroom and I will save over $2,000. Can't beat it with a stick.
I'll go back when there is a game worth going to. The OSU game will be a beatdown and I won't put them on StubHub.

whichever you're using is starting to cause drain bamage. Unless something truly miraculous happens between now and Saturday, this team is pretty much toast. I like optimism as much as the next guy, but in this case, realism makes much more sense.
Michigan has a very slim chance to beat Northwestern. There is very little chance of winning at Iowa. The OSU game is a forgone conclusion. It should be a beatdown of epic proportions. When Tressel was there he wouldn't run up the score, Urbs might try to score 70.
There is no evidence that anything with this team is improving. The Oline is a mess, the QB is constantly running for his life, the RBS can;t even get to the LOS. The secondary seems to be getting depleated and those still in there can't cover much. The best play of the game was Wile's 70-yard punt.
What if anything mentioned above gives you the idea that Michigan can win the next three games? It looks like 6-6 and a crappy bowl game. After that, cleaing house of a couple of assistants is mandatory.
|40 weeks 4 days ago||Does Brady give Coach Speak to the other coaches too?||
That would explain a lot. I'm really starting to think that this staff is in waaayyyy over their heads. Hoke gives the same answers to every question. Which leads me to believe none of the coaches has a clue how to fix what's wrong with this team. This is so much more than youth.
This could end worse than the RR era. This is starting to look like the perverbial train wreck that you want to turn away from, but can't help looking and watching in dumb-founded awe.
|40 weeks 4 days ago||I don't want the 100,000+ to go back to sitting||
on their hands either. But,the constant barrage of sound and noise from the speaker system is not really the solution either. The pre-gmae music is for the kids, by the kids, I get that. But the band used to be the way to get the crowd fired up. I certainly don't want some video of a player screaming at me telling me to "get up".
I know it's tough to get everyone screaming throughout a game, but when the game is intense the crowd doesn't need much help. UTL 1 and 2 proved that. Like I said earlier, going to games and screaming for 3 hours is for the younger crowd. I'm 49, I don't drink before the game. I root for my team and cheer the action, but I don't yell throughout. So I'm not really the type of fan they are going for. I'm not a down in front guy - my dad certainly is, but I realized my favorite part (aside from a victory) is when the bad marches on the field, the Drum Major bends over backwards and the band plays The Victors. I get chills every time I see it.
|40 weeks 4 days ago||The obvious answer is 'they' are trying to keep everyone||
amped up and energized. I'm one of many who have grown tired of the contstant barrage of noise from pregame warmups to the final whistle.
I am a huge AC/DC fan and I want our stadium to be the toughest place for the opponent to play, but not at the expense of the enjoyment of being there with family or friends. I sit in section 44 and there were times where you couldn't hear the person next to talking to you. The new atmosphere at games of almost any sport is to get the crowd loud and engaged from beginning to end.
Sorry, but Seven Nation Army, Eminem and some of the others are going to engage a crowd during timeouts and when the game is super dull. Now I don't scream and yell during the game so I am one of those that doesn't contrbiute to the atmosphere much. Honestly, I go to watch the game.
All this and the skyrocketing cost is why I am giving up my tickets after this year. The guy who sits next to me and has had his seats for many years as well is giving up his also. He is a ENT doc - Ears/Nose & Throat guy and he says they decibel levels break so many OSHA rules it's not funny.
It's just not that much fun anymore. Iunderstand the need for a loud crowd and to intimidate the opposition. I was there when it was the quietest 100,000+ fans in the country. I think I have just outgrown the 'experience'. I had 4 Nebraska guys around me and they all said it seemd not loud at all from a crowd standpoint. They said it seemed like the noise just leaks out of the stadium. So I wonder if the new structures actually do their job.
During UTL or when we beat PSU on the last play with Manningham, it was crazy loud, but it's not possible to have that noise level for 3 1/2 hours. Trying to match the intensity of the SEC is an uphill battle. The program needs to improve dramatically before the crowds will be that raucous all the time. -69 yards rushing for two games and a head coach constantly repeating that he needs to do a better job of coaching is not helping either.
After this season, I'll watch from home and go to an occasional big game.
|40 weeks 4 days ago||mGrowOld, if you're on Stage 6, I'm on 7||
My family has had season tickets in that stadium since 1956. I decided after ND that I was not renewing again. Every game since has only further documented why my decision is sound.
Initially it was based on cost, drunken obnoxious fans and too much loud obnovious music to artifically jack up the fans. Now it is also based on the reality that this program is in true decline from the top down. The prospect of next season's home games is atrociious and playing App State AGAIN, Utah and PSU at home while having to go to MSU, ND and OSU in the same season is a receipe for disaster.
I refuse to pay these ridiculous prices for what I get out of it. I'll gladly stay home and save my $2000 a year for two seats on the 33 yardline.
|40 weeks 4 days ago||For Hoke: Anyone else that is wrong as often as Borges||
would have been fired weeks ago, you are the CEO of this program, how can you continue to let Funk and Borges fail epically every Saturday and keep their jobs? Anyone else aside from weathermen would get fired for being wrong 90% of the time.
|40 weeks 4 days ago||No. And here is why:||
This coach has talked about championships and every season this program is farther away from winning one. No one game can make up for, or erase the simple fact that this staff cannot adjust in-game to the situation. The offense has had at least two(probably more by then) negative rushing yard games. That is completely unacceptable.
RR got a little better every year. This staff has gotten worse every year. outh and inexperience are not the only, or even the main reason anymore.
Beating OSU would be nice, but read this twice: IT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN!
|40 weeks 4 days ago||For Borges:||
Do you know that Michigan cannot run the ball up the middle?
If so, wy do you drop the QB straight back when the defense is coming straight up the middle every time?
Have you ever thought of rolling the QB out to move the pocket away from the middle of the O Line?
Do you actually watch game film?
Have you thought about retirement? If not, you should.
Every week you talk about how the gameplan is not succeeding and that is on the coaches and that ends up being on you. Please explain with specifics what YOU are doing about this mess.
Does it hurt you emotionally that you and your staff have put Michigan in a position to end with negative rush yards two weeks in a row?
Do you ever yell at someone? There are a couple of people you need to yell at.
Is your seat getting warm?
|40 weeks 4 days ago||The only good thing are the preactices||
everything about playing in a bowl game is pointless as things currently stand. At the rate this offense is regressing, they will have negative total yards by the end of the bowl game and be penalized for un-football like play in a bowl game.
I don't think the extra practices under Funk and Borges would do any good, they might actually do harm. Definition of Insanity!?!?
|40 weeks 5 days ago||I understand your frustration, and spoke out||
against the booing at the game today. You don't boo kids! Go boo the Lions or the Tigers or whatever, you don't boo college kids. I know it was directed at the play-calling, I get that, but no one on either sideline under the age of 23 knows that.
I also understand the frustration of the fanbase. I decided on the way back to the car that I'm not going to the OSU game, there is no point. This staff is in way over their heads. They can't coach the talent they have. The decision-making by the OC and the HC is terrible. Timeouts on a 2nd and 25 and then to run the play-action and get sacked. Borges has learned NOTHING from last week. He calls running plays with 9 in the box?!?!?
I don't want to see Hoke fired, but Borges and Funk MUST go. They can't handle it. Every pundit with a microphone says the same thing - this team has no identity. ONe play we're I-formation, the next spread, the next hybrid. Borges doesn't seem to understand that the interior of the O line is the weakest point, yet he runs right to it or drops Gardner back behind it. ROLL OUT the QB and trying something away from the pressure. Try a bubble screen.
It's frustrating as a fan to watch a team that scored 59 on CMU and beat ND go two weeks in a row with negative rush yards. I have been going to games for over 40 years and I have NEVER seen that in Michigan stadium. Again, this staff is in over their heads.
|40 weeks 5 days ago||The demise of this staff's ability to improve over the course||
of the season, not mention their entire tenure here is very disturbing. I'm sick and tired of the Michigan Man BS.
Bring in a coach that can develop talent and win and win now. I don't give a rat's ass where they have been in the past. This staff is in so far over their heads, they're drowning. They get out-coached every week and this team has regressed ever since ND.
Gardner is terrified to scramble and gamble, the O line is what it is and there are no adjustments at halftime. Neither side of the ball is producing, special teams is marginal at best. Another timeout with 2nd and 25 - WTF?
I have lost all faith in this team's ability to win again this season. I'm probably selling my OSU tickets as I can't imagine being in the stands to watch that mess, OSU will win by 5 TDs. The non-shutout streak is in serious jeopardy Nov. 30.
|40 weeks 5 days ago||I'm also over the Miles issue||
Back up the truck, bring Les, Cam and Chavous and fix this mess!
|40 weeks 5 days ago||Four things||
Gardner give back 98 and go back to 12.
Teach Gardner to ROLL OUT of the pocket to throw passes, the pocket = DEATH!
If these things don't happen Hoke needs a much hotter seat.
Brandon is in trouble. He's gonna have a see of red in the stadium Nov. 30. Who wants to watch OSU win that game 56-0. Meyer will have two goals, get a shut out and embarrass Michigan as much as possible.
|40 weeks 6 days ago||tylloyd34 - There are 3 components to developing||
top tier talent as you describe it. One is the talent, the second is time and third is the ability to do develop it. (Not in any particular order)
Time is somewhat subjective, but anything less than three years with any give player doesn't allow for much proof either way.
As for talent, I believe talent is something proven over time given a certain measuring stick. High School "stars" 3, 4, 5 don't really make for an accurate measuring stick. I believe it's more about how soon a player makes the field and then develops over the course of his time in the program.
So being able to develop talent requires both the time and talent and the proof will be in the pudding. Hoke has the necessary ingredients to make said pudding, but hasn't had enough time to mix all the ingredients and let it stand long enough to see if it'll be pudding. Also, he may need a better utensil to mix the ingredients, which may happen after November or January, we'll see.
Either way, you're wrong. Hoke needs the time to prove or disprove his ability and the talent. Relax.
|41 weeks 1 day ago||I think career starts by the o line is the best||
experience. I found this chart without looking too hard. Phil Steele seems to know is stuff pretey well and according to his research we have the 73rd rankled O line based on games started. Check this out: http://www.philsteele.com/Blogs/2013/JUN13/DBJune08.html
|41 weeks 2 days ago||It depends on how we play going forward||
If we win the next three in strong fashion and play OSU close, I'm OK with a Cap 1 or Outback bowl against a no 3 team from the SEC or Big 12.
If we win out and beat OSU (dreaming here) an at-large BCS game would be fun, but not a one-loss Oregon or Alabama. I'm still not sleeping from last Saturday.
I want a game that is competitive and one where we match up well with the opponent. Unfortunately, Michigan isn't as good as I'd like us to be.
|41 weeks 3 days ago||High side 8-4, middle 7-5 and 6-6 low.||
The more wins, the tougher the bowl game gets, so it's not an easy thing to call.
|41 weeks 3 days ago||Let's be Honest, if Saban was in the B1G, he wouldn't be||
such a god. Not because he's not a good coach, he is.
He wouldn't win as much in the B1G because he couldn't recruit around the rules like he does there. He signs 5 more high 4-star and 5-star talent every year than every team in the B1G. That's 15 juniors or possibly 20 seniors that are better than most programs have. The grayshirting and stripping of scholarships he does is why he's such a 'great' recruiter.
If he had to sign only 25 players a season like the B1G he'd be just ike every other top-25 coach. Forcing all schools to give 4-year scholarships would balance the playing field also.
Incidentally, that's why the B1G is so far behind the SEC and PAC-12. We have rules and follow them. The only rule in the SEC is don't get caught.
|41 weeks 4 days ago||Remember Saban wins with Manball because he works the||
system to his advantage. He cuts the bottom 5-7 guys from the previous years recruiting class and signs 30-32 players every year, with at least two 5- stars and mostly high 4-star talent. The B1G limits class size to 25 with some exceptions to 28. You can't compete against a program signing 3-5 more guys thatn you and each of them as good as your top guys and expect to win.
Skirting the rules and having so much more talent with 300 miles of your campus (and SPEED) is a huge advantage. Ohio has the best talent(the state, not the university) in the midwest and we're competing against ND and OSU for it. Saban own Alabama and many other top kids want to go there to get to the NFL. They have 3-5 first round picks every year. Michigan is lucky to get three players drafted. The talent level isn't even close.
The B1G is light years behind the SEC and many years behind the PAC-12. This game is about SPEED, SPEED, SPEED and the corn fed boys of the midwest don't have southern speed.
If the SEC schools had to play in the cold and wet in November and travel 3,000 miles to bowl games, they might be as successful either.
|41 weeks 4 days ago||No, Pope, I don't expect Brian Kelly antics||
but there seems to be a lack of sense of urgency in this coaching staff. In pressers, Hoke and Borges are very calm and collected, especially Borges, it's like he reading a childrens book. But when you're wrong, you admit it and move on. This bullshit that this whole country has adopted to deny, deny, deny and when all else fails...deny again. All that proves is you can't be trusted.
This team may be young and may be inexperienced, but how do you defend the play-calling against Penn State in the last 3 minutes of regulation on defense and offense, or any of it in OT? How do defend the lackluster play of the All-America play of Lewan the last several weeks. Why not roll gardner out to the right and throw a quick swing pass. A bubble screen with a stacked formation at receiver. Those plays don't require the O Line to block that long. This staff doesn't seem to adjust to the circumstances. The secondary routinely has no idea where the ball is because they are always chasing the receiver with their back to the QB.
When I question the passion of this team, it's a comparison to how MSU approaches this game. Since Mike Hart opened his big mouth about the stupid Little-brother crap, MSU has had a chip on their shoulder and have been attacking on the field, Michigan has been reacting. This O Line doesn't fire out and hit the defense, they seem to wait to be hit. They remind me of the Lions O Line when Barry Sanders was playing. They rarely opened a hole, he had to do all the work himself.
I know this team is young in spots, but the coaches are well-seasoned and they don't seem to be learning from their own mistakes.
|41 weeks 4 days ago||Well Denardogasm, a few non-stupid, non-mindless||
questions were asked, like the one about the gap between the two programs. Hoke answered by saying there isn't a gap...REALLLY?!?! REALLLY?!?? There is a HUGE gap. This program has ergressed from the 11-2 team from 2011, not only in record but in 'execution' and it attitude. Mostly ATTITUDE. That's what this team lacks, is attitdue, just like it's coaches. Hoke and Borges are soooo calm all the time, the players seem too calm. There is no passion, no fire, no fight in these guys.
I know the kids play hard. I don't question their effort. But Dantoni and the MSU players HATE Michigan and they play like it. They play like it's their Super Bowl and we play it like it's just another game. That's why they have won 5 of the last 6.
The coach doesn't have to ewxplain everything, but this isn't National Security stuff here. We can see what happened. If Michigan has an inferior team, admit it. They are better and their coach is better right now.
When this season is over there needs to be some changes. I can tell you this, if they go 7-5, 6-6 or worse 6-7, Brandon won't be able to give season tickets next year. Raising prices for that crap-ass schedule and putting out a team like that against an in-state rival, won't sell any tickets.
Who the hell decided that Michigan should travel to MSU two years in a row??? Playing OSU and MSU and ND on the road with a young offensive line and other holes? Wow.
|41 weeks 4 days ago||we're not a top 30 team at this point||
If we win the next three maybe top 20.
|41 weeks 4 days ago||We would have almost no chance against Georgia||
and only slightly more against Texas. We don't have the speed at corner or safety to cover either team's outside receivers and our O Line couldn't slow down either team's pass rush. It might be like RR against Miss. State all over again. Not trying to be negative, but this team has very little upside right now.
Our secondary plays the receiver no the ball and our O Line is swiss cheese. If Devin gets hurt in the next few weeks, I pray for Shane Morris, he might get killed.
I'm not going to worry about bowl games, I'm more concewnredn with slowing down Nebraska. If we can beat them by more than a touchdown, the NW game gets easier. Iwoa could be bad, they play well at home especially against Michigan.
|41 weeks 4 days ago||Replace Funk, the S & C team and take away the "Legends"||
jerseys. Get someone to teach Hoke to get mad, get really frickein' mad and YELL at somebody. I can't say these kids aren't tough. I can't do what they do, but they don't seem to play with any passion. They play with the same overly calm demeanor as the head coach and OC. They talk calmly, they don't get fired up. There is no passion, no hatred, no anger.
Jamie Morris talked about how the players who played for Bo feared film room time to the point they made sure they executed because they what would come if they didn't. This staff may care deeply about their players, but there is no sense of urgency. No sense 'have to', only a sense of 'we'll try.'
MSU hates UM and goes on the field and proves it. Michigan seems to go on the field hoping to play well and win. They don't seem to go out there and MAKE it happen.
THERE IS NO PASSION! Borges and Hoke are way too CALM!!!
|41 weeks 5 days ago||If Michigan continues to lose this season||
the effect will be that "hot seat" questions come up and then kids doubt the stability of the program and the staff and they go elsewhere. It will be a very tough three months coming up. Especially November.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||Apparently, he doesn't like getting bullied||
He looked like a cheap-shot artist today. He didn't do himself any favors for his draft stock today. He should have gone last year.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||I never thought I'd say this...||
Bring in Miles and Cam Cameron and some SEC attitude. Hoke is too nice. He's a great character guy, but all these coaches are too soft spoken. Nobody gets mad, angry or passionate. The most passionate thing any of them have aever said was Hoke's welcoming presser, "This is Michigan Fergodsakes". Itbeen all downhill since he went 11-2 with RR's players.
I'd rather have Harbaugh, but that ship has sailed.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||Great more bad news||
I want Gibson. Maybe the Lions might make the playoffs. This fall is sucking ass right now.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||What OC could do anything with the crap-ass blocking||
this team did today. There were no holes to through or around, the QB never had time to set up and the receivers weren't really open. All those issues are not the OC's fault. The line is weak and slow. They try hard, they just aren't very good.
Also we don't have a very good QB, from a game decision standpoint. Borges may not be ideal, but who is going to call the plays if you fire Borges now??? Hoke??? HA HA
He won't wear a headset. Right now the whole coaching staff looks lost. 7-5 is the ceiling for this team, with 6-6 looking like the number.
Next year won't be much better even though all the home games are weak. Curious to see what Brandon does. Heck, they could all be gone in two years, including Brandon.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||Our O Line is young, but the coaching is worse||
Our kids don't seem to learn from their mistakes (they keep making the same ones) and they can't stop anyone or push anyone off the ball. I see Lewan getting beat all the time, putting him and Scofield on the same side does nothing. They don't open any holes either. I think it comes down to coaching and strength and conditioning. Our guys are weaker, slower and out of position way too often.
Funk, Weller and their cohorts need to go.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||Borges was not the main problem today||
The simple fact that the O line cannot block anyone is why we we're competitive in this game. Fitz couldn't run, because no one (including Lewan) was holding their blocks. Gardner couldn't set up to throw because he had no time. No offensive scheme will work if you can't block at least for 1.7 seconds. Play action was pointless, because they knew Michigan couldn't run.
Bill Walsh couldn't devise a scheme to succeed with blocking like that. The O Line coach needs to go and maybe Borges down the road, but the execution on the field was miserable and it all begins with the offensive line.
AND, we still put no pressure on the QB, Cook had all day to throw. If he was accurate, it would have been 50-6. I think the O Line coach and the D Line coaches and the S/C coaches need to go. We get manhandled on the interior lines and can't penetrate on either side of the ball.
Either way, Borges is not the MAIN problem.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||In the first place, Michigan is NOT an elite team||
and has not been for many years. To truly face reality, the program is not elite at this point. Is it a classy program steeped in tradition and have a great history? Most definitely, yes. But Alabama, LSU, OSU, Oregon, Stanford, maybe even USC and Oklahoma are elite or close to it. Michigan is not, and hasn't been in that class for a while now.
OSU is so far ahead of Michigan at this point and Alabama status is a dream for programs like Michigan that we may never get there again. I'm not trying to be a downer, but looking at it realistically, if Michigan remains stedfast to doing IT the RIGHT way and staying tied to it's old school tradition and history, it cannot keep up with the elite programs.
I'm not advocating cheating or breaking rules, but the coach being a Michigan Man or having to truly "understand" the tradition and history may keep us from getting back or even near the top. To compete at the level that Bama, LSU and even OSU do, we might have to leave some things in the past. OSU changed coaches and had one bad season and haven't lost a game in almost two seasons and they aren't even in the MNC talk.
Bama is probably going to win it all again and that is because it is the ONLY thing they strive for. Michigan talks about B1G Champtionships. This conference is at best, fourth among the top conferences. And Michigan is not even in the top four in its own conference.
We have a long way to go and Michigan may have to embrace the horror of another search for the coach to bring them back to true relevance in the next couple of years. UNtil we get one of the elite coaches and find a way to get some elite talent and speed and DEVELOP it, we will be watching the best play from our living rooms while Michigan plays somewhere else.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||Can we please never mention the "Little Borther" crap||
ever again. WE are the one's who are little brother the last five years. They have the better program at this point. They do more with less 4 and 5-star recruits and they produce the kind of defense we USED to have.
They played a tough, clean game and proved they are soooo much better than we are.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||7-5||
no New Years day bowl game. Hoke an Co should be on the hot seat. They as a group aren't doing their job. I don't care how good Mattison is, the DBs never look for the ball, they get beat too often and we don't pressure the QB anymore. I'm thinking we are recruiting the right players or they aren't getting developed because this program has gotten steadily worse since Hoke's first season with RRs players.
Next year will not be fun. The strongest program in the state is MSU by a long shot. The only we beat them is if Dantonio and Narduzzi leave.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||Devin makes a lot of bad decisions, but||
most come from an OLine that cannot protect him. If he wasn't out there, Shane Morris would be in a hospital by now.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||Not one coach did their job this week||
We gave up too many yards and too many easy plays to MSU. Cook had all day to throw. If he was accurate it would have been 50-6.
The oline is terrible, coaching a big reason. Borges couldn't call a play that would work because the players can't execute. THAT IS ALL ON THE COACHES. Hoke can't motivate. He is too passive we need someone who can teach passion and anger to these guys. Dantonio gets MSU to HATE michigan on this saturday every year and we can't respond.
THIS TEAM is SOFT.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||There's no forgiveness for a lack preparation||
this team hasn't been ready for MSU in 5 years. They don't play with passion. The B1G is soft and weak and Michigan is a mid-level team in the weakest conference in football.

This team couldn't beat OSU with a 21-0 lead to start the game.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||The stadium will half empty all next year||
no quality games and no quality coaching. This team has not been prepared to play in any game since ND. They are soft. I decided to give up my season tickets after ND.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||IT'S NOT THE PLAYCALLING!!!||
The OLine can't block anyone. What do you want Borges to call??? There are no holes to run through and no time for a QB to throw. This teram is soft and the Oline coach has to go. I don't care about youth or inexperience.
Dantanio is the best head coach in the state. I hate the guy, but its true. He OWNS UM.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||Why can't Hoke yell at somebody||
His passive attitude has been adopted by the players. They have no passion either. We should have hired Les Miles. He my be crazy and crosses the line sometimes, but he would do whatever it takes to win. Hoke doesn't. We'll never win a championship playing without passion. The days of Bo and being a good guy are over.
Maybe Harbaugh will get bored in the NFL. We're in real trouble. We'll lose a few recruits due to this crap.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||This coaching staff is||
in over its head. They don't bring the players ready to play. There is no fight in this team in big games. They haven't won a tough road game yet and no signature wins. OSU will destroy this team.
Beating INdiana means nothing , Minnesota is crushing them.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||Hoke is supposed to be a line coach||
get a Oline coach who can coach. This OLine is terrible.
SAD to watch a Michigan team get man-handled AGAIN. We get higher ranked recruits and do NOTHING with them
|41 weeks 5 days ago||This isn't on Borges||
This is the OLine, they can't block ANYBODY. If Fitz can't handle anyone blocking, put in someone who can. There doesn't seem to be any fire on this team. State has all the momemntum and they are creating it.
Taylor gets a turnover and offense loses 21 yards. Pitiful.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||Someone on this team needs to get MAD||
Someone needs to get fired up and yell at somebody, light a fire under this team. HOKE needs to YELL at least once or this game is over
|41 weeks 5 days ago||State is not that good||
we just can't block. Youth, inexperience and lack of size.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||The main reason this team struggles is because the||
Oline can't get any push. Fitz looks less than avg because there is no place to run and Devin has to improvise on almost every pass play.
This doesn't look good. The only good thing about that would be that we wouldn't have to play OSU twice.

I have been going to Michigan games since I was two. It's the only school I know and have an impossible time rooting for any other team except those that play against ND, MSU and Ohio. I think Oklahoma would be my second favorite, but there is really no connection.
|42 weeks 1 day ago||Saturday is||
The State of Michigan Super Bowl!
The Gateway to the B1G Conference Championship Game!
Another chance to prove that the RR regime helped MSU gain a foothold in the state
Another chance to prove that Michigan IS, WAS and FOREVER shall be the football power in the state.
A chance for Borges, Mattison and Hoke to prove they have what it takes to get Michigan back to the top of the college football world
It's a chance to give Sparty another year of crap-ass bragging rights
And it opens the door for OSU to prove how much further this program still has to go to get back to dominance in the B1G.
This game means more than it has in years. We can all joke and laugh at Sparty all we want, but they have the defense we crave and the mean streak we need. But most of all they have the easiest road to the conference championship, except for Saturday. If they win, they're in. We win and we still have to prove ourselves every week until November 30.
This game needs to be as big to Michigan as it is to MSU.
|43 weeks 4 days ago||I was behind IUs bench also, 33 rows up, but||
still, I saw how fast the refs placed the ball and backed out of the LOS so the next play could be run. When I watch other games last night, the officials moved much slower.
|43 weeks 4 days ago||to slow down an IU quick spread philosophy with rules||
You can eliminate the O coming to the ball and then waiting for the sideline to scan the D and then call a play by starting a 7-second play clock once the ref steps away from the ball. The offense wouldn't be able to do all the shifting/changing and still get the play off. The ref could stand over the ball for 6-10 more seconds and the defense could sub. The offense would be forced to call two plays each time and then live with the formation and play they chose against the defense that's in. Chess match again.
I like touchdowns too, but I don't really enjoy each team running 80+ plays and getting 600-700+ yards on offense. Defense almost didn't play a part. It was kinda like 7-on-7 or flag football. Speed was the key, not necessarily the players, just the execution.
Until an Oregon plays an Alabama and Oregon embarrasses Bama winning 58-35 and gains 740 yards on Bama's world-class defense, nothing will change.
The point of the "spread" and no huddle offenses is to reduce the 'disadvantage' of not having 340 lb lineman and 245 LBs. By the third or fourth play in a drive at IU's pace, Bama's defense would be gassed and IU has the advanatge. That's the ONLY way IU could ever score on Bama.
If IU is as successful running it's speed offense against OSU. The Buckeyes will be in trouble. They rely on power and big hits from Roby and Shazier. If they can't get squared up, they can't intimidate IU.
|43 weeks 4 days ago||I was there and Indiana's offense||
was light-speed fast compared to what Rich Rod did here. It's much faster than Oregon's as well. It felt like that game was 5-6 quarters long. I thinkthe offense has a huge advantage by being able to come to the line as soon as the ref places the ball and then have the sideline call a play, handcuffing the defense. I don't know what the solution is, but aside from Michigan winning the game, that wasn't very enjoyable to sit through.
The one rule that MUST be changed is that a ball cvarrier be called for face-masking when they stiff arm. It is NEVER called and should be. Why can the offensive player grab a facemask or a helmet and not get penalizied.
Also, the hits like the ones that Roby did today need a stiffer penalty. He made helmet-to-helmet twice before being tossed. I think if a player is kicked out of a game and also the next one, then it might change the way DBs hit.

It will be interesting, as in close and it will not be for the faint of heart. I have taken my Lisinopril - actually FOR blood pressure control, I know I will be frustrated and angry at times. I also know that Michigan is 5-1 and MSU scored 42 on these guys. We CAN and WILL win this game.
Michigan - 38
Indiana - 27
We won't praise Borges, but we won't crucify him either he will redeem himself for this week anyway. The defense will save this one in the second half today.
|44 weeks 2 days ago||I'm as tired of Borges' schtick as the rest of you||
but firing the O-coordinator mid-season is like spilling a 5-gallon drum of blood in the shark tank just before going for a swim.
Mack Brown has dumped a couple of coordinators that the last couple of years and all it has gotten him is a stopwatch ticking down to his removal.
If Hoke is going to change assistants, you do it quietly behind the scenes when no one is looking. Maybe make a back door offer to Cam Cameron when the season ends. If he bites you make a change. Maybe he knows of a great Oline coach as well.
|44 weeks 4 days ago||We offer Cam Cameron whatever he wants to come home||
He should be here, not at LSU. Then we find a real O-Line coach and bring Barwis back as a S & C coach. The Oline is not strong enough or know enough about leverage to move anyone off the ball.
It looked like Lewan got a serious dong punch. I watched that play several times I couldn't see anything else that would cause him to not be able to come back.
|44 weeks 4 days ago||I think he's a quality coach and am glad he's here.||
That being said, I wish he would get mad about something though. Heck, my wife even made the comment last night during the overtime sessions that she can't believe how calm he is. He never yells at anybody. I think he needs to yell at Borges and Mattison. The play calling on both sides were horrific. How does our defense let a true freshman QB drive down the field in less than 30 seconds to tie the game???
I like and respect Hoke, but I feel our players are not progressing fast enough or are strong enough to compete in the Big10 , much less nationally.
|44 weeks 4 days ago||Strength on the Oline and lack of speed||
into the hole. We have been hearing 'youth' as an issue for 5 years. Sooner or later youth isn't the problem. It has been youth or depth or both since Lloyd retired. If it weasn't for Denard's speed and Gardner's occasional elusiveness, this team would be 3-3 at best right now.
Our Oline is supposed to have the best LT in college football, but we can't run that way or any direction. There isn't enough speed in the backfield to get outside or run strecth plays and the interion Oline is young and not strong enough to get a push. Fitz has a tougher time finding a hole than Barry Sanders did with the Lions.
There are so many issues with the line that Borges' 'play-calling' isn't even the main problem. Based on the Akron, UConn and PSu games, it seems that Indiana might beat us, MSU SHOULD beat us and the rest of the games look very scary.
|44 weeks 4 days ago||Why is anyone defending us against the likes of Sparty, NW||
or maybe even Indiana. We turn the ball over more than anyone in the conference, we CANNOT run the ball except for Gardner when a play breaks down. And Gardner accuracy is seriously questionable. Every year since RR arrived, we hear, 'this team is young, wait until 20xx...' Earlier this year we heard this team is young, wait until 2015 and we'll be great. Every class looks great on paper, but they aren't developing into the 'great' teams or players we're told to wait for.
I see 7-5 or 8-4 at best and OSU will be the class of the conference for athe next two years. They keep reloading like Bama and we keep re-building. Sparty has a much better defense and Indiana has a better offense. We are at best middle of the division.
|44 weeks 4 days ago||Don, that shook me to my core||
This fanbase couldn't survive another coaching search for at least 5 more years. I wish we had grabbed Cam Cameron when we had the chance though (OC).
|44 weeks 4 days ago||If Gardner continues to turn the ball over at this||
Denard-like rate, we will be lucky to win ONE game. If Borgess continues to call games like yesterday...and Gardner continues to prove he is color blind, we lose all six.
Either way, at best we win 8 because IU is dreadfull, Sparty is Sparty and Nebraska is led by Pelini. We can't beat Ohio unless their two deep all gets injured between now and then.
It's really sad that we sign all these high 4-star and a couple of 5-star recruits and they are getting turned into 3-stars by members of this staff. It reminds me a lot of the Carr years. The staff would rave about some safety or linebacker only to have them get burned time and time again and the team couldn't tackle anyone or cover a receiver tight.
That crap last night in the last minute of regulation and the entire OT was just stupid. Where did the play for a field goal or run out the clock mentality come from? We were supposed to be better than them, we have 20 more scholarship players than they do! The players can't execute and the coaches can't manage to put them in a position where they can execute. We got beat by a true freshman and a defense that gave up a ton of yards and points to Indiana.
The next 6 weeks will be very scary.
|47 weeks 11 hours ago||Why is this being treated as Rocket-Science?||
Take one section away from the Student section, give the students that purchase tickets their "actual" seat back and sell the extra section to the long list of season ticket waiting list folks.
With the cost of tickets now, non-students that pay full price for tickets will show up under normal circumstances. Full stadium, problem solved. If the students complain that their section of the stadium isn't big enough, then SHOW UP or shut up.
|47 weeks 5 days ago||Now we know what kind of team this||
weak. They can't block, cover or rush the QB. This team looks like a RR team! They won't win more than 8 games this year. OSU will destroy this team. UConn and Akron are two of the 4 worst team in FBS and Michigan can't stop either one.
Goodbye top 25. MSU must be laughing right now.
|47 weeks 6 days ago||52-10||
Michigan wins easily, the outcome never in doubt and the naysayers go back into the darkness, not reappearing this season until the final week in November as the undefeated Bucknuts come calling.
It will be a war of attrition with the winner to play the loser AGAIN the next week for the right to represent the B1G in the Rose Bowl against the second best team in the PAC 12.

money (I figure he has more than enough) but his ego is limitless; and it would be easier to be the best in the Big12 and go undefeated than in the ESS-EEE-SEE.
If he built anything like he has at Bama it would be a walk in the park the top seed in the playoffs every season.
|48 weeks 3 days ago||As much as I like Devin||
and see the potential upside he brings, I feel he has not done enough to warrant wearing the #98. He started a handful of games last season and has had at least six turnovers the last two weeks, including two pick-6s. I saw the hype machine in full-on mode at UTL-2 and it was cool, but until he wins at least 6 games without multiple turnovers and then only 1 or 2 INT's, I think he should go back to #12.
|48 weeks 4 days ago||The NCAA is a money-laundering group||
They will not slap or even breathe on the schools that bring in their cash load. The SEC, a couple of teams in the Big 12 and OSU rake in the $$ for the NCAA. The playing field is not even close to level. If everyone signed 32 players a season and weeded out the weakest of the the previous year's recruits each year, then things might be a little different. The B1G eliminating D-1AA games starting next year will only widen the gap as the perception of SEC dominance will continue to snowball as their schools never play in snow and cold weather.
Speed is the major difference and we don't have it and they do.
|48 weeks 5 days ago||I was there and was amazed at the emptiness of that corner||
It was well into the second quarter before fans were sitting above the wheelchair section. I don't think there was more then 100k until after halftime. The student section is too big. You can't count on 18-22 yr old kids to fill that many seats on a weekly basis. The need to cut one section back from the endzone side, not from the top down. The GA thing is not going to solve this issue.
As a season ticket holder for many years and watching the evolution of the corporate monster push the average fan to their couch rather than the stands at the game, I think this problem is going to get worse. After witnessing the UTL2 last week and the assault on the senses with the constant barrage of noise and endless music (not to mention the fight in my section at half time) and the seriously over priced tickets with the PSD tacked on, it's time to watch the games from my couch. I can easily save most of the $$ and spend more on a one of two 'good' games than see what I saw today.
My PSD costs over $55 per seat per game which means today was $130 per seat, plus parking and food. My seats are outside the 35 yd line and the constant barrage of overly loud music really detracts from the experience. I'm not a get off my lawn guy or a down in front guy either, but the cost of game day is getting seriously out of reach for us middle class fans.
|48 weeks 5 days ago||After watching OSu and Cal, we better||
take over UConn's stadium and run them out of the building early. OSU must have had 70% or more of the seats, it looked and sounded like a home game for them.
A night game may be better than a noon start, but if the emotion and focus isn't there it could get ugly. I figure we drop to 15 or lower in the polls after today's game.
|48 weeks 5 days ago||Big Game Letdown Syndrome||
This happen more often than most remember. After a emotional victory or loss against an intense rival, the next game shows a team that comes out 'flat' much less emotion and intensity and struggles to gain any rythym. Did the team play poorly? Yes. Did many of them make mistakes, including the coaches? Yes. Was it hard watch and brought back memories of the Horror? Most definitely.
I watched most of the the Bama game after getting home from our game, the OSU game tonight and the ND game. This team is a far cry from the Bama, and ND played so-so but not as bad as we did. But From what I saw, OSU is a much better team than we are, more team speed and will test our lines and secondary for 60 minutes. Guiton may be a better QB than Miller.
Depth is certainly an issue still with this team. The depth we have is in the number of bodies, not seasoned talent - YET.
I thought Gardner would have learned from the pick in the endzone last week and he almost repeated it again. He is not fast enough to outrun every pass rush and shouldn't be trying to be a hero on every broken pass play. He had a Denard type of day today and it happens. The interior Oline is very young and the Dline is young. They will learn from this and will get better. Team 134 is not going to go undefeated, but they will get better.
If Gardner conties to turn the ball over three times a game, he should go back to #12 though.
One more thing, DB - cut down the size of the student section, that was embarassing and aside from OSU and maybe Nebraska, it will happen again this season. GA is not the solution, cutting back on the number of seats is a better plan.
|49 weeks 1 day ago||In Sec 44 We had a guy we tried to get ejected||
There was a drunk jerk behind me in Sec 44 that was trash-talking a couple of ND guys through the first qtr and then one of the ND guys apparently said something pretty bad to the guy and from that point on he kept threatening the ND guy and swearing at him and calling him female genital parts and dropping MFs everywhere. I finally turned around and told him to knock it off because there was an 8-yr old girl just four seats away.
Then he kept threatening to beat the guy up and just as the last play of the 1st half ended this jerk climbs over 4 people and attacks the ND guy. I pulled him back and proceeded to berate him for starting a fight in front of 100k people and told him to take it outside or be the bigger man and let it go. Someone else got Security and they removed him, but let him come back in the 3rd qtr. He was quieter, but he sould have been removed permanently.
My 15-yr old heard and saw the whole thing and although we enjoyed the win, the experience was severly tainted. That experience and the constant assault on our senses by the music and noise for 4 hours is making me re-think keeping my season tickets. There wasn't one moment of peace until we left the stadium. I think it's a little over the top.
You don't need to keep the fans engaged for the entire game by bombarding them with sound and video to keep their interest. At least at home I can mute the sound during commercials.

is from the first game to the second. The question is which of these two teams (UM or ND) makes the biggest improvement. Bteween UM and OSU, you can't really compare because they are both lower half MAC teams at this point. OSU always plays down to their competition in the first few games (and at Purdue). Let's wait until after 5 games for each and then start making predictions.
You don't want to look like Herbie did yesterday - predicting Toledo over Florida and being totally wrong.
|1 year 12 weeks ago||I have been a season ticket holder for over 15 years||
and my dad had seats next to mine since 1956. My brother gave those up three years ago and we have been talking for over a year about giving up mine and going the StubHub route. For two grand or more for seats and paying more to park to watch Eastern, Indiana, Illinois etc just so you can be there for OSU, HD and MSU is getting silly.
The average household in Michigan that doesn't have $150k of yearly income can't keep this up. College football and Michigan included are going to see more people stay at home. There is no line for my bathroom, or the kitchen and I don't have to pay to park. My favorite part of the game is when the band and the team come on the field. That is one of the most exhilarating moments you can experience in sports.
But, to justify the expense when I have a 15 yr old that will need a vehicle in a year, college in three more and my eventual retirement , watching on TV is getting more attractive all the time.

The Super Bowl, the World Series, The Stanley Cup, nothing compares to it. Now Michigan playing in a true National Championship game in football would be the only competition. Thank God the two would never conflict with each other.
Today was amazing, exciting, thrilling and everyhting in between. I am so happy for Adam Scott. I had Wisconsin going to the Elite Eight and NM going to the Sweet 16. My final four is still intact. I have 24 of 32 so far, but I am guaranteed to lose at least two this weekend. I'm in the 97.1% on ESPN's bracket.
|1 year 21 weeks ago||My money bracket is toast||
I had Wisco and Indiana in the finals. I was much more conservative in that one than in my online brackets. My Yahoo bracket is fairly swiss cheese as well.
|1 year 22 weeks ago||Based the evidence at hand||
I think this team falls short against VCU. I am hoping we get to Elite 8, but I doubt. The youth and inexperience of this tream, and no inside scoring presence or defensive presence for that matter, says early exit for the Wolverines. I will watch and root and enjoy whatever success they have.
I see Indiana, MSU and OSU going farther. I think Miami may be the best team in the country. I don't know much about Louisville, but the heads at ESPN think they're winning it all.
|1 year 23 weeks ago||At least get to the Final Four.||
Being No 1 and a top ten team most of the season, the last two or three weeks has been very disappointing. About the only thing to make up for it, would be a run to the FInal Four. Like it was said earlier, I don't expect it. I'm being overly realistic, I think they struggle to get to the Sweet 16, but Final Four would make up for what they were unable to accomplish thus far.
|1 year 23 weeks ago||Deppending on how they play in the BIG tourney||
probably a 3 seed in the NCAA tournament. Thes seoncd round is where I see them struggling. The pressure of getting to the Sweet 16 will be just like today. Plus they won't be at home so Robinson will most-likely struggle down the stretch as he has shown a propensity to disappear on the road.
|1 year 23 weeks ago||Can't rebound and can't make FT in the clutch||
Geez, we had this game and let it slip away with no interior defense or rebounding and three different players missed free throws. I think the tournament will be really tough to get past the second round
|1 year 24 weeks ago||Winning out and getting to the elite 8 would be||
but neither are going to happen. This team is VERY talented, no doubt, but I have very little faith that they will beat State at home this weekend with Spring Break hitting (no home court advantage) and NO offense aside from Trey Burke dribbling and everyone else standing around.
I like the coach and the players, but there is no plan, no set plays, they just seem to make it all up as they go. Be honest, aside from Burke and a few from Hardaway, what real offense does this team have? How do you lose a 15-point lead on the worst team in the conference?
Honestly, my prediction is we won't beat State or Indiana, we'll get a #3 or 4 seed and get knocked out in the second round again or maybe get to the Sweet 16. THAT's IT. This team is talented, but very young and gamewise, very immature.
I know it sounds very negative and "hateful", but based on the last five games, do you REALLY think they have a chance against State or Indiana? We have no inside presence, which means no inside/outside game and every shot against a good team is contested. Play pressure defense one step beyond the 3-point line and beating Michigan isn't that hard.
This team needs at least another year of seasoning to be Final Four worthy. Problem is Burke and Hardawya may both be gone after this year, especially Burke.

If the NFL did true random blood tests throughout the season, I bet 60-70% would fail to some degree. MIke Golic said it on Mike&Mike the other day, the only testing they do is at the end of training camp and everyone knows, it's coming, if you fail you're an idiot. His words.
|1 year 28 weeks ago||The kids fought hard, tough loss||
I thought the biggest problem besides the lack of interior defense, is that there is no inside-outside game. There were very few open shots and if Burke wasn't shooting in the second half, it seemed like no one else would. Robinson disappeared and Stauskas couldn't get a decent look all night. It just seems like when a game is tight, there is very little offensive flow. And every team seems to pressure our shooters all over the court now.
The team played hard and it's tough to win at Assembly Hall, but I think we definitely had a shot until the last two minutes. Gotta win on Tuesday. Go Blue!

|1 year 29 weeks ago||As much as I love the winged helmet||
I want all football to go back to leather helmets. If they did, much of this human carnage and senseless tragedy would stop. There is not a player with a shred of common sense that would lead with his head if he wore a leather helmet with no facemask instead of the helmets today.
Today's helmets may very well protect the skull itself from a traumatic injury, but they are simply a sham to cover up the truth that the collisions and the sudden change of direction of the brain inside the skull are the main cause for the brain injuries that are debilitating today's current and former players.
The impact is tremendously violent, but the real damage is done when the head stops moving or changes direction, but the brain continues in its original path and slams against the inside of the skull, that's where the damage is done. NO HELMET ON THE PLANET CAN FIX THAT!
I love football, but this is truly sad and insane. How many great players have to be reduced to shadows of themselves or die before the truth is realized and acted upon?
|1 year 31 weeks ago||I cxould see Kelly going long before Urban goes to ND||
Urban didn't go to ND before because they won't relax the academic standards for the football program. Urban tried to get that deal and they said no. He's not stupid, he coached against Miles and Saban, he knows you can't compete aginst that kind of talent unless the Administration looks the other way when it comes to restrictions and high standards.
Heck, we're going to have a very tough time getting anywhere near Bama's stature because, it's win at all costs down there. Signing 4-6 more kids thanh everyone else and booting the lower end schollie kids that don't make the championship cut. Every year Saban signs 3-5 more kids than we do and has more 5-star and 4-stars than we do. Stars don't guarantee anything, but the potential for greatness is higher and the pct is on his side.
Plus the school will let him hire ANY assistant he wants at any $$$. It's tough to compete against that all the time.
Kelly is fighting for more $$ for assistants so he can get a better defense. That's what ND needs, they'll get the recruits.
Why do you think Brandon let Hoke get whoever he wanted on defense? You have to spend the $$$ to be able to compete today. The playing field has decidely tipped the SEC's way and it ain't leveling out any time soon.
|1 year 32 weeks ago||I predict a defensive/conservative gameplan||
much like Tresselball. I see Bama winning 21-17 or 19-16. The highest score I can see is 27-13, and that's only if Bama jumps out to a 17-3 lead at halftime.
It won't be that great of a game to watch, I am actually hoping for a sloppy monsoon with six to 10 turnovers and 300 yards in penalties culminating a 9-0 win for Bama.
I hate both, but the only school I hate more than ND is Ohio so I have to root for Bama. Besides there is a really hot chick at work that is a huge Bama fan.

2. A Rose Bowl victory over USC, Stanford, Oregon or some WORTHY PAC-12 opponent.

4. Winning the National Championship game in decisive fashion over a favored SEC opponent.
Addendum - beating all of Michigan's biggest rivals in the same season is part of the mix.

Afterwards, Saban admits college bores him and he goes to the Bears. Brian Kelly goes to the Chargers and Chip Kelly goes to KC. Urban Meyer bolts for ND and Douchetonio goes to tosu, where he fails miserably

Perennial underachiever who gets great talent and always seems to fall just short of the playoffs and NEVER goes to the Super Bowl.

Lions biggest problem is no discipline, no talent in the secondary and and old, slow O line that can't open a hole or protect the QB. If it wasn't for the talent of MS and CJ and the Dline, the Lions would be 0-16 again.
If they don't get a shutdown corner, two top Olinemen and a safety, the'll repeat this 4-12 crap.

Big Ten of B1G is starting to seem outdated. I think with all the re-alignments and teams switching conferences, so many traditional rivalries are being destroyed and the uniform lalapalooza going on, traditionis going the way of the dodo.
Let's change the name, the logo and the divisions and be done with it. I'm starting to think that playing OSU in the middle of the season would be to our advantage because they always seem to start slow and are at their best in November. If we played them in October every year, then we might be able to make it a night game and improve the stage and win more often.
