| 19 hours 22 min ago | You forgot to mention the most obvious ACC target |
in Georgia Tech. Atlanta market, good academics, not central to ACC and already not in same conference as in-state rival. |
| 1 day 15 hours ago | No offense, but that might be the worst suggestion ever |
the last thing we need is another Big East/Acc turd on the schedule, especially one that plays in a frickin dome. Terrible. |
| 1 day 15 hours ago | I just don't see a long term series happening |
or at least not one the fans would want. It will be an ever changing series of home and homes or nuetral site one offs for better or worse. I like the variety, and to hell with Notre Dame, but I think the schedule just won't be as good without the annual ND game. At least we will have UM/Rutgers and ND/Duke in its place! Blech. |
| 3 days 14 hours ago | I totally disagree |
I love the thought of a front court with GR3 Mitch and Morgan/Horford. That fits each players skills well, will fare much better in the B1G and gets more experience on the floor. There may be more talent on the wings but it is young talent. |
| 4 days 20 hours ago | None of the starters last year were recruited by this staff so |
I'm willing to wait till they get their guys in to make a judgement. Star rankings are one thing but if they aren't the right fit for the scheme the star rankings don't mean as much. |
| 5 days 10 hours ago | How old are you and how good are your recieving skilz |
Jk |
| 1 week 1 day ago | Good list |
painful of course, but those all have to go down in my top 10 most paingful UM related calls/non-calls. |
| 1 week 1 day ago | That is thoroughly craptastic |
I still can't beleive Brandon scheduled App St. There is nothing good that can come from that even if we win 70-0. It would be like Domino's brining back the 30 minute garuantee as a promotion despite the fact that it arguably caused multiple traffic deaths and cost the company millions in settlements and court judgments. |
| 1 week 1 day ago | Those look pretty sweet to me |
so I'd be happy if they stopped there, not including the obvious technical advances. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | Same. It's great during football season |
But totally unlistenable from April to July. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | That's at least 6 bad giveaways by Smith |
He needs to go the way of Lashoff. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | Seriously I think its time for Smith to take a seat |
in the stands. I'd rather they play White at this point. Smith has zero confidence right now and it shows badly. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | Smith and Quincey are just awful |
Mr Giveaway and Mr Bad Penalty. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | Yet another wasted draft pick by the Raiders |
they might be the only front office worse than the Lions over the last decade or so. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | I love London and I love Deanrd, but |
the idea of an NFL game in England is bad enough, but when it involves the Jags its even worse. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | You have to wonder if those are actually UM fans or |
other fanbases trolling. Why in the world would anyone give Watson crap for choosing Kansas when our coaches stopped recruiting him?
Oh and btw- Twitter is the Devil. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | Maybe the worst/best show of all time |
just check out the awesome airbrushing on that poster! |
| 1 week 2 days ago | Well Hagerup may go the way of Stonum |
but there is no way he would not be granted a 5th year if he does everything that Hoke has set up for his penance. |
| 1 week 3 days ago | Yea that was my other major critique of the schedule |
I love going up to Evanston every winter for what is almost Michigan home game inside a crazy small arean. |
| 1 week 6 days ago | Where's the threat? |
Now all we need to do is win in EL and Spartys little "run" is officially over on and off the field. |
| 2 weeks 1 day ago | It has been said numerous times that Martin paid |
players that did not end up at Michigan so I think its very possible some money went to players who ended up at Sparty. I'm not saying that to excuse what happened at Michigan or to label the Sparty hoops program as dirty, but to remind people that the Ed Martin scandal went beyond Michigan. |
| 2 weeks 1 day ago | Sorry, but this is where the meme of players should be paid |
goes off the rails. I understand why Webber took the money. A lot of it came when he was in high school and he was not from a wealthy family. Many kids do the same thing in the same situation, and even though its against the rules, I get it. I'm also generally in favor of compensating NCAA athletes in some reasonable fashion. That said, I have a big problem with the way Webber handled this whole mess. His refusal to talk set the investigation, and ultimately the program, back years and only compounded the problem. Had he come clean in the beginning he would have saved the University years of turmoil and himself a perjury conviction. So for that, I absolutely think Webber should appologize. On the other side of the coin, I don't see what Michigan has to apologize for at all. They did not tell Webber to take the money, they did not tell Webber to lie under oath and cover things up. They did not set up the NCAA's ridiculous rules of "ametuerism." Just because the NCAA system is outdated and hypocritical does not mean that turns every athlete into a victim and every University into a perpetrator. |
| 2 weeks 2 days ago | Be prepared for this to be the meme unless and until |
someone shows they can beat Urban and the Bucks. As much as I hate it, they have lorded over the B1G for a decade and show no signs of slowing down with Urban at the helm and the B1G down overall. Michigan is the only legit threat at this point but they need to prove it on the field whereas Ohio gets the benefit of the doubt based on the last 10+ years of dominance. |
| 2 weeks 3 days ago | Funny how none of those things mattered |
In the first half against Ohio or in the 2 games before Ohio, or against South Carolina. |
| 2 weeks 3 days ago | Well the only reason I am talking about it |
is because the OP brought it up, but lets not pretend that it hasn't been brought up as a real possibility by Brandon himself. |
| 2 weeks 3 days ago | Sorry, but telling me something could be way worse |
is not a very good argument for accepting something that sucks. |
| 2 weeks 4 days ago | This while episode just reemphasizes what a total dumpster fire |
The Pistons organization has become. Seriously, what the hell are they paying the GM for if they need to keep bringing in consultants? It's even worse that it's a former bitter rival and king douche. It's been obvious that Joe D needed to be canned years ago but Gores obviously can't pull the trigger so instead he comes up with this half assed solution? What a joke. |
| 2 weeks 4 days ago | Didn't they have issues with Levenberry as well? |
Wonder what's going on with LB recruiting down in Tallahassee? |
| 2 weeks 4 days ago | There were rumors of Ringer leaving long before |
We got to 86 scholarships and it would have been easier for Hoke to just tell Hagerup to take a hike given his off the field problems. I think there is nothing to see here. |
| 2 weeks 4 days ago | Sparties love to cherry pick stats like that |
while conveniently ignoring the facts that Michigan had an episode of temprorary insanity, Ohio's official win totals during that period are lessened due to tatgate, Penn State imploded, and well, the rest of the B1G sucks. |
| 2 weeks 4 days ago | That is classic |
kudos to the creator. A Price is Right drop will always get my support. |
| 3 weeks 1 day ago | Ummm its a scouting report |
and an obvious comparison. Some people are WAY too sensitive. |
| 3 weeks 2 days ago | Wtf? |
I want the last 3 minutes of my life back. |
| 3 weeks 5 days ago | No it just means that the Lions screwed up as usual |
The could have had Denard at 132 and gotten me to actually like them again. Maybe that is better for Denard as the Lions are damned to suckitude for our lifetimes. Unfortunately the Jags are pretty crappy themselves. |
| 4 weeks 17 hours ago | Boomer is the worst |
Unfortuantely NFL network has its own dipshits so it can be tough to watch. |
| 4 weeks 1 day ago | Not a half dozen final fours worth |
again, Izzo benefitted greatly, but I don't see how anyone can argue with the results. |
| 4 weeks 1 day ago | Barry is still then most exciting athlete I've ever seen play |
its just a shame that the perpetual Lions ineptitude forced him out of the game early. If the Lions had ever mangaed to put together an average line or an above average QB, Barry would have shattered every rushing record by a mile. Imagine him on Dallas instead of Emmit.... |
| 4 weeks 1 day ago | I agree Vandy is way more appealing than Rutgers |
rutgers was one of the last BCS teams that I wanted to see in the B1G. |
| 4 weeks 1 day ago | Well I agree that the Ed Martin scandal |
no doubt helped Izzo (and btw- it was an Ed Martin scandal, not a Fab 5 scandal), I think you are way understating Izzo's accomplishments. The guy bugs me too, but his record speaks for itself. He has 5 or 6 final fours and an NC. Not many coaches in history can say that. |
| 4 weeks 1 day ago | Not if Payne also goes pro |
He is still deciding and I beleive today is the deadline |
| 4 weeks 2 days ago | This is cool and all but Sam McGuffie was once a youtube |
star. I'll be happy when Nik puts as much time and effort into playing D and working on his handle. |
| 4 weeks 2 days ago | Ummm- are you sure this is what you meant to say? |
"I won't give away the main ingredient of the four, but it rhymes with rum." That doesn't sound so great. |
| 4 weeks 3 days ago | The B1G only has itself to blame |
if there were remotely viable programs at Illinois, Purdue, Indiana or Minnesota, maybe he stays in the Midwest. |
| 4 weeks 3 days ago | Knew this was coming and it shows how desperate |
the tigers are. One inning of single A ball and they run him up? Are you kidding me? Smokey and DD just could not help themselves. How many games does Papa Gascan blow before they finally move on? I'm guessing at least 5. What a joke. |
| 4 weeks 6 days ago | Why do people think Irvin starts at the 3 when |
JB said that Glen will play there, Glen said that's where he wants to play, and playing Glen at the 3 gives us better matchups in B1G play? I'm sure Irvin will get some minutes at the 3, but he is not starting there. And frankly, I'd rather give a few more minutes to seniors in Morgan and Horford even if that means that Caris, Nik and Irvin get a few less. This team will have no problem scoring so I'd rather have Morgan and Horford in there for defense and rebounding. Mitch at the 4 and Glen at the 3 is the way to go for most of the matchups we will face in the B1G. Maybe in the NCAA they will go more with Glen at the 4 and Mitch at the 5 if that's what the matchup dictates, but I don't think that will be our base lineup
|
| 5 weeks 1 day ago | Tom Beaver is a professional |
jackass and world class douche. Its too bad Sam Webb is tied to the Beav. |
| 5 weeks 1 day ago | Thw worst thing Joe did was resign Rip in the same |
week he traded for cap space (aka Iverson) which meant he basically tied one hand behind his back immediately after freeing the other one. It made zero sense at the time and it showed Joe had no long term vision for the rebuild. Since 2008 he has basically been a disaster aside from getting lucky in the draft a couple times when Monroe and Drummond fell into his lap. |
| 5 weeks 1 day ago | I'd prefer they bank the scholly but tht Belein fella has |
had some success with late bloomers so who knows? |
| 5 weeks 2 days ago | my two concerns when Hoke was hired were |
1) it would mark a return to LLoyd ball on the field, and 2) Could he recruit with the big boys.
It appears those concerns were unfounded. |
| 5 weeks 2 days ago | The Pistons have been a complete disaster the last 5 years |
and basically their is not much hope that they will be capable of even winning a play-off series in the next 5 years. I loved him as a player and we will always have 2004, but Joe D has done one of the worst rebuilding jobs I have ever seen. |
| 5 weeks 5 days ago | Boooo |
never liked Tiger, never will. |
| 6 weeks 1 day ago | Jon Voight Car is No More |
/Seinfeld reference |
| 6 weeks 2 days ago | Porcello will always be mediocre at best on this team |
he needs a good defensive infield behind him to become anything more than average which this team will never have while he is here and its the reason why I've wanted him dealt for awhile now. Despite my underwhelming view of Porcello, I'm still surprised DD couldn't deal him for a an average closer or short stop given his age and relatively low salary. |
| 6 weeks 4 days ago | You must not be very old |
The 89 team and fab five teams had as many pros as this team and both likely had more lottery picks than this team. |
| 6 weeks 4 days ago | Defense rebounding and free throws |
They were our bugaboo all year and they did us in again. |
| 6 weeks 5 days ago | Get over yourself |
Seriously, it's sports. It's fun to mock your rival. Spare me the we are above it crap |
| 6 weeks 5 days ago | Unfortunately this shows that every fan base has its share of |
Idots. Including ours |
| 7 weeks 1 day ago | Sample size fail |
The guy saved two games in the playoffs and suddenly he is a closer? I'm fine wih Coke every now and again but he sucks pretty hard against righties so no way can be be a regular. Unfortunately Papa Gascan is terrible against both righties and lefties. |
| 7 weeks 2 days ago | Jesus that's a terrible football conference. |

| 7 weeks 4 days ago | I've seen people selling fix for just the Michigan game |

| 7 weeks 6 days ago | How about a simple |

| 7 weeks 6 days ago | BWWWWWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA |
So your solution to an out of control program that can't deliver in the tourney is to hire one of the worst tourney coaches of all time that oversaw a program of serial rapists at Iowa? Good call |
| 8 weeks 7 hours ago | Exactly right |
Its been Mitchapalooza since hes been a starter. Give Belien credit for making the tough decision to pull an upper class starter for the Freshman and to Mitch for going all HAM |
| 8 weeks 1 day ago | Do what? |
The Wings are in absolutely no position to trade anything of value for a rental player. They simply aren't cup contenders at this point as the last three play-offs have confirmed. I'd rather them be sellers than buyers at this point. White, Carlo, Sammy, Bert, Cleary, Franzen, Filpula, and Miller should all be on the trading block to get as many picks or prospects as we can get. Even though they are all not likely worth much, any long term assets are better than what those guys provide in the short term. Of course someone will bring up the Kings last year, rabble rabble, but anyone who knows and watches hockey will get that this team is not lst years Kings and not capable of getting past the 2nd round. Kenny needs to put this team in the best position possible for a quick rebuild, otherwise we are looking forward to a Pistons-like decade of decline. |
| 8 weeks 2 days ago | No way GRIII should go pro this year |
I can't imagine him going against pros next year. Stay in school another year and he's a top ten pick just like Burke. |
| 8 weeks 3 days ago | Dinardo was pretty critical when RR was coach |
So I don't think he overhypes it all the time. I'm sure there is some pro B1G sugar coating going on at times, but this seems more like legit praise. |
| 8 weeks 3 days ago | Seemed like Neal never wanted to go to ND |
IIRC he wanted to play for RR at Zona but who knows now with a kid at home. |
| 8 weeks 3 days ago | Yea he is related to |
Jag-nus |
| 8 weeks 3 days ago | Well greg Mattison and math disagree with you |
We have no other SAM LB's beyond Gordon and its a position that is much closer to WDE than it is to other LB spots. Mattison also said they made the move becuase of the depth they had at WDE with Clark, Mario and Taco. |
| 9 weeks 17 hours ago | Wisconsin basketball is just plain terrible in every way |
they lumber through the B1G season just battering people with hideous basketball doing damage for the sake of damage and then they get to the big dance and completely poop the bed. So figures. |
| 9 weeks 21 hours ago | Sorry, I should have been more specific |
I was comparing Alford's terrible treatment of people in general to Knight's, and not the tolerance of sexual abuse. |
| 9 weeks 22 hours ago | The Halo was a compelte and utter abomination |
Back to Bolivia with you! |
| 9 weeks 22 hours ago | I've heard the same about Alford and |
his handling of rapists on his basketball team was atrocious. But then again he is a Knight protege so should we really be surprised? |
| 9 weeks 2 days ago | Well how about that? |
I guess the Alvarez/Beilema annual tour of Baby Seal U's is taking a detour. Good to see. |
| 9 weeks 2 days ago | This cracks me up |
"we should be above pointing out such inane things". Why? Isnt that what sports and fandom is all about? Talking about our rivals and vise versa? It is ridiculous to think that we as a fan base are somehow above this or even should be. And yes, I recognize the hypocrisy in always pointing out who Sparty is obsessed with us and frankly I have no problem with that because for the most part, being a fan of one team includes a mostly irrational dislike of the other team and its fans. At the end of the day we are really just rooting for different colors of laundry. |
| 9 weeks 2 days ago | Is it April first? Aaaaarrrrrgggggghhhhhh |
Better now than fall practice I guess. |
| 9 weeks 2 days ago | Herm is that you? |
Sorry, but this is a pretty antiquated notion given the economic realities of modern college football and basketball. |
| 9 weeks 2 days ago | Sorry, but that is a pretty easy critique to dismiss |
If Denard wants to support non-reveunue sport athletes then all he has to do is donate his portion of the royalties to a scholarship fund. He should have the choice whether to do that or spend it on Pizza House or extra shoe laces or what ever he wants.
Why should Delany and others have total control over where to direct the royalies gained from using Denard's likeness? |
| 9 weeks 2 days ago | Great question posed at the end |
and it perfectly highlights the absurd hypocrisy of Delany's comments. I understand this is a complex issue with wide ranging ramifications for college athletics, but I keep coming back to the fact that I dont think I could ever root for Delaney over Denard. |
| 9 weeks 3 days ago | I'm torn on this |
On the one hand, the ammount of time and energy needed to police these things seems like a waste. On the other hand, the last thing teenage recruits need is more attention and sucking up. |
| 9 weeks 3 days ago | Sorry, but "dating" Tyra Banks is a major negative |
sleeping with sure, but dating? Ugghhhh |
| 9 weeks 3 days ago | That is probably what would happen but it doesn't need to |
Each B1G school takes in tens of millions more now than it did just 10 years ago because of BTN. I realize a lot of that money is being pumped into new facilities, but does it have to be? Do we really need a state of that art rowing facility to have a rowing program? |
| 9 weeks 3 days ago | I totally agree- this is beyond awful |
death to Delaney. |
| 9 weeks 4 days ago | Well that pretty much cements it |
Delaney is an enormously hypocritical ahole. |
| 9 weeks 4 days ago | Its hard to argue with the criticism |
hopefully the team uses it as fuel and goes on a long tourney run. That will be the only way to silence the critics. |
| 10 weeks 16 hours ago | Halfway through the B1G season |
this team has been pretty bad at layups and free throws for awhile. |
| 10 weeks 16 hours ago | So glad I am not watching this abortion of a game |
Its hard to beleive we are so average with the best player in the league. |
| 10 weeks 17 hours ago | For a skilled offensive teams we may be one of the worst |
shooting teams when it comes to layups and free throws. You know, the ones they call gimmes. |
| 10 weeks 19 hours ago | Death to marketers |
Yes I know the concept of marketing has been around for as long as humans traded goods, but this endless need to come up with something new just for the sake of being new is nauseating. |
| 10 weeks 1 day ago | Another hole for the Lions to fill |
I can't imagine their starting tackles being Reiff and Fox next year. As nice of a start to the offseason as Mayhew has had there is still way too many holes to consider this a play-off team. Off the top of my head they still need to fill the following spots: 1) Starting OT 2) Starting CB 3) Starting S 4) Starting DE 5) Starting WR 6) Starting LB 7) Starting G 8) Backup WR 9) Backup DT 10) Backup S |
| 10 weeks 2 days ago | Can someone explain what Hoke meant when he said |
that he liked the way Rawls has competed over the winter? What permissible "competiton" is there during the off season? Obviously there is strength and conditioning so perhaps he meant that, but it sounds broader than that. I know that the players organize 7 on 7's and things like that, but I thought it was a no no for coaches to monitor those or even get reports on them. Anyone have any insight? |
| 10 weeks 2 days ago | They have some offensive weapons but the defense is still |
a total mess and I'm not sure you can count on anyone on the offensive line other than Rob Sims. In other words...Same Old Lions. |
| 10 weeks 2 days ago | That surprised me too |
I am glad he is gone, but you would think he could have fetched an ok prospect or two or at least be part of a larger package with Porcello. For whatever reason they thought it was better to save the money than be stuck with him. |
| 10 weeks 4 days ago | Another year? What more is there to see? |
Since about 2007 Joe D has been the league's worst GM. He could not have handled this rebuilding effort any worse if he tried. |
| 10 weeks 4 days ago | What about basketball recruiting? |
It was the biggest visit weekend of the season for hoops recruits |
| 10 weeks 5 days ago | Jedidiah Springfield would be proud of your word choice |
A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man. |
| 11 weeks 18 hours ago | Dan Hawkins would like a word with you | |
| 11 weeks 21 hours ago | Only 1 year in the SEC |
and A&M has already mastered the art of the cheat |
| 11 weeks 1 day ago | Remember when Ziel and Pike were our two top QB targets? |
Maybe it's good we did not take a QB that year |
| 11 weeks 1 day ago | What's your deal? | http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WeS3VeluAmg |
| 11 weeks 2 days ago | This has been the first bit of conference realignment |
that actually makes some sense. The Big East goes back to being a basketball conference and its members will share similar geography, philosophy, and demographics (i.e. mostly urban schools). The former Big East football teams can all go back to obscruity in some Conference USA like mid-major where they belong. |
| 11 weeks 2 days ago | I think RB is another huge question this spring |
with Toussaint out.. One of Rawls, Hayes or Johnson really needs to step up so we don't have to totally rely on true freshman in September. |
| 11 weeks 3 days ago | I'm most interested in the young Offensive skillplayers |
specifically if we will get meaningful contributions from Darboh, Chesson, Drake Johnson and Justice Hayes. Each of them has gotten some practice hype but shown nothing in gamers so far. I think we need at least 2 of them to become quality contributers. |
| 12 weeks 1 day ago | This is amazing |
for so many different reasons. SHE-HULK SMASH! |
| 12 weeks 1 day ago | The talent on this team has been overrated from day 1 |
people were trying to compare them to the Fab 5 which is ridiculous. Its the most talent we have had in 15 years, but that is not saying a whole lot. |
| 12 weeks 1 day ago | Sam is great but Tom Beaver might be |
the world's biggest douche and makes it totally not worth paying the money for access to their site. |
| 12 weeks 2 days ago | I hate Addidas and the constant uniform shenanigans, but |
I frankly have also never really understood the need for a singlet in basketball. With all the new fabrics now I just don't see sleeves being a hinderance. It seems like a convention that has outlived its usefulness.
|
| 12 weeks 3 days ago | Crean is a weasel and an Izzo prodigy |
But the real problem here is the idiotic rule that requires the refs to go to the monitor to review potential elbows. |
| 12 weeks 3 days ago | I totally agree the benefits of moving to the East |
More than outweigh the loss of the Hawks as a primary rival. I'd much rather play 4 original 6 teams than Chicago and a much of expansion trash. And it totally cuts down on travel for the wings and late night playoff starts. |
| 12 weeks 4 days ago | wtf are you talking about? |
serously |
| 12 weeks 4 days ago | Do you wanna do karate in the garage? |
YEP! |
| 12 weeks 5 days ago | I'm with you in finding the references in the Montgomery story |
To have been pretty forced. On the other hand I get that there is a very fine line between witty references and trying too hard. |
| 12 weeks 5 days ago | I've been in favor of benching Nik for a big man |
For awhile. I'd start Mitch and Morgan together and bring Nik off the bench for instant offense. But maybe that is just me. |
| 12 weeks 5 days ago | I completely agree with this. Denard is not a full time WR |
Get him the ball in the backfield in a variety of ways and he will produce but I just don't see him going downfield and running routes. |
| 12 weeks 6 days ago | I prefer the Sklar Brothers |
they are much funnier |
| 12 weeks 6 days ago | I still don't see Denard as a WR. |
Seems like he would be much more useful as a Javid Best like speed back without the concussions of course. |
| 13 weeks 15 hours ago | Now we just need a Leather Tuscadero |
and we will be all set. I don't Pinky would cut it under Mattison. |
| 13 weeks 1 day ago | 40 Minutes of Unnecessary Roughness |
What else would you expect from Arm Bar U? |
| 13 weeks 2 days ago | So we aren't supposed to like our school and |
want recruits to go there becuase we think it is the better choice? I really don't see the problem here. Its not like he ripped the kids choice, which I agree is pretty stupid. |
| 13 weeks 2 days ago | I will now neg every post you make on this board |
No matter the content just because of the infinite dochiness of this post |
| 13 weeks 2 days ago | Cody Zeller is from Indiana and went to Indiana |
so I'm not sure I understand the comparison. |
| 13 weeks 3 days ago | It's hard picking who to root for in this fight |
Two bumbling hypocritical and unlikable organizations squaring off in slap fest. |
| 13 weeks 3 days ago | Sorry, but neither do I |
this is 100% driven by football so football should be the focus and this whole mess totally sucks for football. Sadly it seems inevitable, but once this happens, Michigan will no longer be a part of Big 10 football. We will be in a conference with Ohio and a bunch of east coast teams. Whoopee |
| 13 weeks 3 days ago | So once we add 2 more ACC teams then Purdue and IU |
will move to the Western Division and UM and Ohio will be in a conference with no other original Big 10 teams. Great, thanks Delaney. |
| 13 weeks 4 days ago | Umm wasn't it Smith who decided not to impose a bowl ban |
When Ohio was 6-6 leaving the NCAA no choice but to ban Ohio in what turned out to be a 12-0 season? Yea, what a genius. |
| 13 weeks 5 days ago | Conley was not the same way |
He was rated in the top 20 in Ohio early on and was a legit three star before rising up the rankings. Brady may be a good player but he does not have near the early ranking as Conley did |
| 13 weeks 5 days ago | Seems strange to offer a grey shirt this early in the process |
But maybe Brady just likes Bradys. |
| 13 weeks 5 days ago | That was my point exactly |
Smote played soft at times and apparently did not have the best attitude but he was a big body that could score and he would have provided experience depth which is sorely lacking on this team. Unfortunately he decided to bail rather than tough it out. We might be better off down the road but I can't help but think he would have had an impact |
| 13 weeks 5 days ago | I'm wondering how much better this team would be |
If Smote had stuck around. He had his issues, sure. But I think we might be better able to contend in the B1G if Smote were starting at 4 with either GRIII or Nik coming off the bench. |
| 13 weeks 6 days ago | Tank Gates |
He ran a mean Statue of Liberty play Btw I will be impressed with those who get this reference. |
| 14 weeks 18 hours ago | I met Bo Ryan by chance |
and he could not have been nicer or more engaging in a situation that was of no benefit to him. Just seemed like a naturally decent fellow, but who knows. I can say I certainly hate watching his teams play basketball. Set phasers to "cool story brah" |
| 14 weeks 1 day ago | I don't really understand the Dakich fans out there |
He is totally overrated as an analyst and apparently a complete ahole as well |
| 14 weeks 1 day ago | They are pretty much where I expected them to be |
at the start of the season. Its clear that have a lot of offensive talent, but they are very young and lacking defensive toughness. They pretty much have to win out to have a shot at a split B1G championship which will be very tough to do. That Wiscy game was a real dagger to those hopes. The good news is that there is still a lot of basketball left to make incrimental improvements in their deficiencies. That coupled with the fact that the NCAA tourney is played at nuetral sites with more stringent officiating keeps me optomistic this team has a good shot to reach the Elite Eight. |
| 14 weeks 1 day ago | This is a total red herring |
There was a mountain of circumstantial evidence against Paterno before the Freeh report ever came out. How about the fact that Paterno's top assistant had a 20 year history of sexually abusing children and that for at least 5-10 years he was brazen enough to use PSU facilities for this conduct? That alone is enough to sully Paterno in my mind. But then we know that McQuery at the very least told Paterno that Sandusky was naked in the shower with the kid and Paterno did at most the bare minnimum in reporting it and clearly never did anything to follow up or ban Sandusky from football facilities. Again, that fact alone is enough to indict Paterno in my book. Beyond all that it simply stretchs credulity to think that Paterno never suspected his top assistant, whom he likely spent dozens of hours per week with was a serial pedophile when there were rumors and incidents all around. The Paterno family wants to try this like a court case and poke holes in the Freeh report because its much easier to do that then it is to respond to these simple truths. Their response is almost as sickening as the underlying offenses. |
| 14 weeks 3 days ago | Nice pickup. With it being a down year in MI |
and Ohio depthwise I think it will be key to get a few more national recruits and we are already off to a good start with Mone and Spreight. |
| 14 weeks 3 days ago | I'd rather play in the West than play f&#@ing Rutgers |
and f*&^%ing Maryland every year. What a joke. Death to Delaney |
| 14 weeks 3 days ago | Sadly though, Urbie is right |
Most of the B1G has been pathetic recruiting wise. Some of that is demographics and out of their control but just look at what the Hoops programs have been able to do. The difference is that the Hoops programs have hired top notch coaches almost across the board while football hiring has been a joke outside the top 4.
p.s. good job on the bit Seth. Pretty funny |
| 14 weeks 4 days ago | Who is "Coach Brown?" |
And why are we listening to him? |
| 14 weeks 4 days ago | Say what? |
"As such, they've "closed the gap" to get back to the '90's, when Carr was dominant over Cooper. " Because we beat them once a year ago when they were 6-6 and we were "close" in the last two recruiting classes things are now back to the way they were in the 90's? |
| 14 weeks 4 days ago | What did you expect? Meyer closed with a better class in 2012 |
And he was only on the job for a month. Meyer has 2 NC's, an instate advantage, and a decade of Ohio dominance over Michigan. I don't really see how it was a surprise that Ohio jumped us. |
| 14 weeks 4 days ago | Judging by the earIy offers it looks like the talent in Ohio and |
Michigan is thin. Most of the early offers seem to be outside the Midwest. That means this could be a very tough recruiting year. |
| 14 weeks 4 days ago | Other than ND which we don't play anymore |
when was the last time we played a quality OOC opponent on the road? I'm not sure I will be all that broken up about no longer playing at UConn or Utah. |
| 14 weeks 5 days ago | Yes I am serious |
And not even remotely melting down. Recruiting starts over every year. Last year's recruiting success guarantees them nothing going into this year. ND and Ohio are coming off almost perfect years on the field. Do I believe Hoke and his staff are up to the task? Sure but they have to actually go out and do it all over again. Nothing is guaranteed. We aren't Texas who can just roll out of bed and collect a top 10 class from the state of Texas alone. |
| 14 weeks 5 days ago | I'm guessing we have a good shot at Blake Bars's brother Alex |
And people have mentioned Jabril Peppers and Parker Westphalia a lot but I'm not sure if we lead for any of them. The thing that concerns me is that most of our offers so far are for guys outside of The Midwest. This will be a very tough recruiting year IMO. Hoke and the staff better be rested and ready. |
| 14 weeks 5 days ago | Good to hear |
Hope he's as good of a recruiter as Shane |
| 14 weeks 5 days ago | They were all offered except Krenzel IIRC |
but Hankins and Gholston were not offered until it was too late and we wanted Fragel to play tackle and he wanted to play TE which he did until inevitably switching to tackle. Jackson may have been a casualty of the RR transition but I could be wrong there. |
| 14 weeks 5 days ago | And if we don't? |
Neither guy is guaranteed. Hoke and co need to step up and do it all over again. Recruiting starts over every year and you have to be up to the task. Carr lost his recruiting energy and mojo in the later years and it lead to him getting killed by Tressel on the field. |
| 14 weeks 5 days ago | Probably? He already has twice |
At least according to the scouting services. I guess the true test will be on the field but expect Urban to get higher classes every single year |
| 14 weeks 5 days ago | Just like the games at IU and Minny we can |
Make the bad taste of the Wiscy game disappear with a huge win in EL. Get er done! |
| 14 weeks 6 days ago | We missed Morgan a lot in this game |
Guaranteed he comverts a few of those inside passes that Horford, Biefeldt and McGary fumbled or bricked. |
| 14 weeks 6 days ago | The most ridiculous part of him saying that |
Was that it came right after the refs missed the ball going off a Wiscy players head out of bounds in the first half. So there were two HORRIBLE calls involving Stauskus and the ball going out of bounds. I know Brian likes Dakich a lot but he is just bad as most Espn analysts (Vitale excluded who is his own world of suck) |
| 15 weeks 1 day ago | He is totally right, but |
Urban is right that other than UM and Ohio the B1G recruiting is pretty crappy, but it still sucks having to listen to that douche pontificate about anything. |
| 15 weeks 1 day ago | I feel the same way |
particularly in light of Spreights lack of mobility. All things being equal give me the guy who has the ability to evade the rush and move a little bit. Unless you are Tom Brady or Peyton Manning it is tough to produce at an elite level these days if you are a total statue. |
| 15 weeks 1 day ago | awesome thanks! |
God bless Mgonerds |
| 15 weeks 1 day ago | Thanks for the link, but |
can anyone tell me how to download the video to my Ipad for offline viewing later, rather than watching it as a streaming video? I have an overseas flight later today without WiFi and would love to watch it on the plane. |
| 15 weeks 1 day ago | This might be the best football news I've heard in a while |
Washington, SF, and even Seattle have shown that even in the pros a big and mobile QB can be deadly in an offense that incorporates that mobility into a strong passing offense. Gardner seems exactly like the type of big bodied, strong arm, speedy QB needed to run such an offense. |
| 15 weeks 2 days ago | Meh |
I feel like we should aim for more than 1-2 against Ohio, 1-2 in Bowl games and 3-4 losses per season. |
| 15 weeks 3 days ago | Does anyone know where I can catch the replay online |
Or on Directv? I can't access the stupid WatchEspn app as it does not support Directv. |
| 15 weeks 4 days ago | Trust the coaches and all, but yea I agree |
it seems like we would be better off banking the scholly and evening out the classes a bit. |
| 16 weeks 1 day ago | Sparty lucks out another one |
Its been happening all season. |
| 16 weeks 2 days ago | Yea actually they do |
No those programs arent the sexiest but At least there is some tradition there, particularly with Illinois and Purdue. And they are all close enough for convenient road trips. Rutgers and Maryland are complete shite in every way imaginable. |
| 16 weeks 2 days ago | Fucking terrible |
Death to Delaney if this happens. I don't ever want to play Rutgers or Maryland, let alone every season. We are no longer in the Big 10 if this happens. We are in some weird hybrid monster that pretty much sucks. And I'm sorry but being in the same division with Ohio does not make this in any way better. I've never cared if we were in the same division or not so long as we always played them in the last game of the year. |
| 16 weeks 4 days ago | Yes please |
One Mac school and one traditional power. And it balances out the home and away games. Works for me |
| 16 weeks 6 days ago | This is basically why I've never thought he was coming here |
I'm hoping to be surprised but expecting to be disappointed. |
| 16 weeks 6 days ago | I guess the assumption is that |
Webb is there to cover the announcement and that he would not be there unless be was sure that Green was going Blue. Lots of assumptions there but it seems reasonable. |
| 17 weeks 9 hours ago | I think Tressel should have fired Gee |
Total ass clown. |
| 17 weeks 9 hours ago | No one is hating on the kid. Stop mischarecterizing the posts |
People are 1) criticizing the Dad's public tweet which is fair game, or 2) lamenting the potential loss, or 3) rightky expressing disappointment that a recruit might go back on his commitment. Obviously we won't know where Poggi is going until the LOI is signed and he should sign whereever be wants, but I haven't seen any posts slamming the kid. |
| 17 weeks 10 hours ago | Ohio was coming off of a losing season, an ugly scandal |
a coaching change and NCAA sanctions and it has not hurt their recruiting one bit. I'm sorry, but excuses don't really cut it in big time football these days. If we lose Poggi and Green goes elsewhere we will have only a couple top 100 recruits under most of the rankings (Scout seems like an outlier) which is far behind the top programs. Hell even PSU has 3 top 100 guys and they are a tire fire. Depth is great but at some point you need difference makers. Just rewatch the South Carolina game if you don't agree. |
| 17 weeks 20 hours ago | This guy is a total POS |
if the Lions don't cut him now they have no hope for the future. This is exactly the kind of player they need less of. I hated the pick when it was made and I hate it even more know. Mayhew is Millen 2.0. |
| 17 weeks 2 days ago | One of Carr's biggest failings was not having a coach |
On the staff that was capable of taking over as HC, particularly when he knew for awhile he wanted to retire. Harbaugh would have been a no brainier as a QB coach or a coordinator but Lloyd did not want him. Oh what might have been the last five or six years otherwise. Sure Harbaugh may have left for the pros, but we would have avoided a lot of heartache in the interim. |
| 17 weeks 2 days ago | The real joke is that the NCAA is upset |
Because their agents reviewed too much information. Apparently they were just suppose to ignore that under oath deposition. They might as well just admit they have no power to investigate anything and let program run amok since that is essentially what is happening anyway. |
| 17 weeks 2 days ago | This is what Sparty does and why I have thought all season long |
That they had just as good a chance to win the B1G as Minny, us or IU |
| 17 weeks 3 days ago | They can't even miss a fucking free throw correctly |
Jesus H Christ Sparty luck continues. |
| 17 weeks 3 days ago | So bad in fact they promote spontaneous double posts |
Aarrggghhhhh |
| 17 weeks 3 days ago | Wisconsin is so fucking terrible |
They should be banned from all tv coverage for the rest of the year. Seriously that are making my eyes bleed. |
| 17 weeks 3 days ago | Wouldn't shock me at all. I've never thoguht |
the kid was coming here and frankly won't beleive it until he sends in his LOI. |
| 17 weeks 4 days ago | Helluva shoot out goal by Brunner |
Lets hope he can start doing it in regulation |
| 17 weeks 4 days ago | I couldn't agree more. Holland had a disastrous off season |
For the the third year in a row. As soon as Parise and Suter signed elsewhere and Nik retired they should have changed course and began the rebuilding process. Time to dump the mediocre vets, play the kids and create cap space. Instead Holland went the Joe D route which ensures a long and painfull period of not not competing but not quite rebuilding |
| 17 weeks 4 days ago | I wouldn't expect much from Brunner. His upside is Hudler |
Circa 2010/11. |
| 17 weeks 4 days ago | It wasn't a fluke |
This team is a mess. Time to blow it up and rebuild for the future. |
| 17 weeks 5 days ago | Agreed. This does not bode well for us |
He would have been a really nice addition but as long as we finish with Derrick Green I will be happy. |
| 17 weeks 5 days ago | Well this is not a surprise |
this is the same university that basically swept under the rug a rape/suicide scandal and the death of a student videographer. |
| 17 weeks 6 days ago | Well except that even when the NCAA has something big |
Right under their noses they more often than not powerless to investigate and afraid to bring the hammer unless the school is even more powerless (ie PSU). |
| 18 weeks 12 hours ago | Debord on the market |
Be afraid. Be very very afraid |
| 18 weeks 14 hours ago | My desire not to be in the same division as |
f'ing Rutgers and f'ing Maryland is WAY stronger than my desire to be in the same division as OSU. As long as the Game is the last weekend of the regular season every year, I just don't feel that strongly about being in the same division. |
| 18 weeks 1 day ago | Fuck da Bears |
that is all |
| 18 weeks 1 day ago | Did you listen to the whole show? |
Becasue that was not my take away from Greenberg's comments at all. I did not hear Golic and would not be surprised for him to defend Teo and the program, but Greenberg was much more skeptical as were the other ESPN guests. |
| 18 weeks 2 days ago | The guy has a huge injury risk so |
he is a perfect pick for the Lions! |
| 18 weeks 3 days ago | Are there any propsects you are impressed by? |
just sayin... |
| 18 weeks 3 days ago | Peppers and Hand are long shots and McDowell |
is no slam dunk either. People keep thinking these players are in the bag when their decisions are a long way off. Of course that works in our favor as well, as there is plenty of time for Hoke and Co. to make their pitch. Bottom line is that the recruiting war starts over every year and our coaches have to stay at the top of their game because Meyer and Ohio currently own the B1G until someone knocks them off their perch. |
| 18 weeks 3 days ago | Man are some people dellusional |
they went 12-0, we went 8-5. They have owned us for the entire millenium. Their head coach has 2 NC's to his credit and their program will do anything to win. People may not want to beleive that Ohio is a juggernaut, but they are and will continue to be until we do something about it. |
| 18 weeks 4 days ago | According to Sam Webb today |
Dawson has been under the radar because he came to football late. That could explain the lack of "big time offers" though I think his offer list isn't too shabby. |
| 18 weeks 4 days ago | Yes this happened becuase of McQuay |
which makes it even more annoying as we were his #2 choice. It is amazing how little attention kids and their parents pay to the ethics of the coaching staff when choosing a school. I guess I shouldn't be surprised though as kids fall for slimy coaches all the time. |
| 18 weeks 4 days ago | McGary should have been on the floor more, but |
as a replacement for Stauskus who looked totally ratteld on offense and a liabilty on Defense. Other than that minor complaint though, I am not too worried about this loss. They weren't going undefeated and they almost won despite all of their starters having a bad day. My hope is they learn from this and use that lesson to win a couple tough road games (i.e. at Minny, MSU, IU and Illinois). Do that and we will be fine as no one is winning this conference with less than 4 losses. |
| 18 weeks 4 days ago | Pretty nice offer list |
I'd rather we were getting a speedy WR with that offer list, but I don't think we are in a position to be turning away talent at this point, particularly on offense. |
| 18 weeks 4 days ago | I agree- the tier'ed system is pretty complicated but flawed |
I think winning at Ohio and MSU will be just about as tough as winning at IU or Minny. So I tend to just look at who gets to avoid playing the tough road games.
For example, Minnesota gets a huge break in not having to play us in Ann Arbor. And Ohio does not have to play at Minny. In my mind, that means those 2 teams have the easiest schedules amongst the contenders.
Of course, that is a very simple way to look at it. For any real in depth analysis you probably have to look at Kenpom or RPI, but I think my simplistic view identifies the glaring inequities for Minnesota and Ohio. |
| 18 weeks 5 days ago | The good news is that |
Pretty much every one on the team played poorly and we still almost won. Hopefully they all learn from this experience and play better at Minny. My only complaint was that I thought JB should have replaced Stauskus with McGary for most of the 2nd half. Nick was out of control on offense and a liability on D. |
