Some of my best friends are Browns fans and I can't for the life of me think of why any of you have hope for anything but an abject failure from the Browns front office no matter who's in charge. Sorry, I hope they prove me wrong at some point because they have a lot of loyal fans who deserve to root for a respectable team.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Jeremiah Holloman at #77 (#11 WR). There's plenty of time to get a good replacement, but his decommitment still hurts. Ace was prophetic in his Hello post.
Edit: I got Snake Oil Steve'd on my comment. Guess I should refresh more often!

Glad to see you're still with us Alex. I thought the Washington mods had gotten recruiting revenge on us and stolen you away. Good write up as usual btw.

Tragic that so many died and were injured. I was raised to hate soccer by my dad who called it really slow boring hockey. I wish I had more appreciation and understanding of the game. This is the extent of my knowledge of British soccer fans.

It's interesting that at 11:45 one of the panelists comments "spiked a lot of second basemen too" at the end of Cobb's list of accolades, to which the host replies yeah, he was a mean one. So Cobb had acquired a reputation as a dirty player long before the fictitious autobiography and other books about his alleged life. Was Cobb a devil or angel? I'd say, like many other things in our culture, the truth is somewhere in between. In between doesn't sell stories, so our "news" reporters will continue to laude or demonize people depending on their own agenda.

My first car was a 1973 Dodge Polara that still had the bias ply tires equipped when we bought it in 1992. We put "new" tires on it that were all varying age full size spares my dad had collected over the years (I have no idea how they were all the same size). I was almost to my girlfriend's house on one of the first hot days that summer and had about a foot section of the tread separate from one of the tires and start slapping against the wheelwell. I got to change the tire in her driveway. I was mortified but she actually thought it was funny and we dated the rest of summer.

I went to HS with a kid who would tell people he drove a "vette. . . a chevette". He thought it was hilarious. He also had the back end lifted like a muscle car for good measure. He still had a mullet way after they went out of style too. Thinking back, I'm pretty sure I went to HS with Joe Dirt.

I always admired Cobb's records and production even though he was a "dirty" player. I wonder how casual sports fans will view Tom Brady 30 to 50 years from now. Will he be considered a dirty player because of all the lazy and negative journalism throughout his career? I sure hope not because that would be a terrible mischaracterization of him as a player and person.

This is all just a ploy by the NFL to try to protect their golden boy Peyton Manning's career records. They are basically stealing a quarter season from Brady, who is only a few seasons away from taking the career lead in several major passing stats. I guess Brady will just have to win the next couple of super bowls to make up for the lost games.

I don't have an axe to grind with Jehova's Witnesses or anything - except one of my babysitters, but she was crazy from the inbreeding (her dad was her grandpa) not her religion. I guess I shouldn't have taken the articles I read at face value. Learning more about hip surgery has thankfully not been a need in my life.

I'm not his doctor, but I've read that he needed hip surgery which requires blood transfusions. Not sure how you can do one without the other.

You have either proven that Cardale Jones is not "dumb" or that academics at OSU are even more laughable than I ever imagined. I'm going with the latter.
|2 weeks 17 hours ago||Look at the popularity of||
Look at the popularity of college football vs the other professional minor league systems though. College football isn't going anywhere and I don't think there'd be enough star level players who wouldn't want to "play school" to support a separate minor league system. For all the stupidity of the NCAA, they sure have figured out a way to market a product and make a crapload of money for basically doing nothing.

Good points. I guess when you grow up in a small town where it's expected that you'll get decent grades and go to college, or at least graduate high school, it's hard to relate to kids without those expectations.
|2 weeks 17 hours ago||Jones wasn't smart enough to||
Jones wasn't smart enough to leave for the NFL after they won the championship. I wonder how much money he left on the table by coming back to school. There's a life lesson here kids, strike while the iron is hot. I know we'd all like our favorite players to come back to school, especially when they need further development (as Jones clearly still does), but sometimes a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. I'm out of applicable cliches, so I'll just stop typing now.
|2 weeks 18 hours ago||I know what you're saying and||
I know what you're saying and that there are plenty of genius level people throughout history that struggled in school. That was a different era in education though. With all the IEP's and special consideration given in the modern education system, I don't see how someone who is "intellectual, very smart" can't at least be an average student. Maybe I expect too much from people.
|2 weeks 18 hours ago||This is a serious question.||
This is a serious question. Was Jones ever diagnosed with a learning disability? If not, the statement "... intellectual, very smart, not necessarily very good at school." makes no sense at all to me. It did come from Urban though, so I guess it makes perfect sense.

Ok, then forget the part about getting aid. He is still in state and only needs to cover $5 grand for his first semester at OSU, which may or may not be a big deal to the kid.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||In state tuition is $10,000||
In state tuition is $10,000 while out of state is just over $27,000. I'm not sure if you are right about in/out of state not being taken into consideration for awarding scholarships, but the amount you need to cover as an in stater is basically a third. Also, in my experience, there are many smaller local scholarships that are available if you stay in state for school.
Here's an anectodal example. I know of a kid who is a good HS running back, wrestler, and track athlete. He had smaller schools looking at him for a football scholarship and FBS schools looking at him as a wrestler. His dream is to play football for an FBS school, so he decided to accept a PWO spot at Ohio State. At first glance, I thought he was stupid for turning down the scholarships. However, he will most likely get a full ride due to his academics and financial need, so he's following his dream to OSU (barf).
|2 weeks 3 days ago||I am in no way, never, ever||
I am in no way, never, ever defending Urban Meyer. That said, maybe we are reading too much into the situation. Is the kid even mad about this? Since he's in state, if he has any financial need at all and decent grades, he'll probably get a full ride to OSU anyway. Plus, if he does this as a favor to Urban to free up a scholly, I'm sure that will earn him a spot in the Circle of Trust. Just sayin.
