I know many people will want to pick apart some of the finer details of your system but as you have stated, no scoring system is perfect. There may be some things I am not in total agreement on but it does give us a framework as we debate the candidates.
With that being said, here is my personal comment/critique. I think you need to take the top 7 categories (which are essentially "college coaching ability" metrics), group them together and calculate a score. That score should be the starting point as you move forward and there should be a baseline that a coach needs before even being considered (sorry Teryl Austin). From there you need to look at the scores of those other categories and consider them, but they shouldn't drive your final decision unless they are really stand out - high or low.

Not sure I get the point of this post, but another incredibly important factor to keep in mind is this was pre-internet with ESPN several years away from being considered part of the main stream media. The media scrutiny was one tenth (if that) of what it is today. Coaches like Bo could say pretty much what they wanted without having to worry about it being analyzed to death within minutes of the words leaving their mouth.

So if I post a comment on ESPN or some newspaper's website that organizes a boycot would it be attributed to ESPN or said newspaper? I'm thinking probably not.

And on a completely "unrelated to anything important" note - anyone else think that pic of Norfleet was photoshopped??? Jeebus, dude is small or that ND LB trailing is a monster!

That was actually Terry Glenn. Buckeyes have a long and glorious history of "interesting" WRs. Carter, Galloway, Glenn, Boston.

Good job on your first question. Hoke also did a pretty good job not answering it.

I attended the game at UW in 2001 and I would highly recommend making the trip. Did the boat cruise to the stadium which is a pretty unique scene for a football game. Also caught a game at Safeco on Friday night. Definitely a good destination for an away game.

Nice to see Ann Arbor that high - deservingly so IMO. Am I blind or was Austin, Tx missing from the list? Everyone alwasy seems to rave about Austin. Also, I think Ames, IA at #5 was about 40 spots too high.

I'm glad you don't give a shit. And no, I'm not trying to be cute or sarcastic or anything. It truly is good that people find it to be a non-story. However, I do think there is a pretty reasonable response to your question. First off, "everyone" has not made an announcement about being gay. Not sure, but by my last count we have a total of two active football players (NCAA or NFL) that have made an announcement. The reason that this number is so low is because historically people have felt that they will not be accepted by society if it is know that they are gay. Times have certainly changed and society is much more accepting, but I think these public announcements are a neccessary part of that change. We will probably see a handful more of these announcements. Eventually they will no longer be that remarkable and the media will stop covering them.

|11 weeks 2 days ago||I have no idea the opponent||
I have no idea the opponent but it was 1987. I was a senior in high school and down visiting friends. I know it was early in the season as I was extremely warm walking to the stadium in my varsity letter jacket, which I was wearing so I could conceal and carry in as many cans of beer as possible. I believe I managed 6 - two in each sleeave, one in each pocket. This was not a big thing back in '87. Other than the guy ripping the stub off your ticket (damn I'm old) there was little resistance to the bringing in of contraband.

I do give him kudos for working in the B1G slam. He is definitely a master at that type of thing. But when people bring up the "why don't you play a tougher schedule" question, I don't think it is because we want South Carolina to replace ECU with Purdue (or we want Michigan to replace EMU with Kentucky). We want South Carolina to replace ECU with MSU, Wisconsin, U of M, Nebraska etc. (and Michigan to drop EMU for Georgia, South Carolina, LSU, etc.)

The sooner the NCAA goes away at the D1 level the better.
|13 weeks 3 days ago||A couple thoughts||
1) Television hasn't "figured out how to make a mint out of women's college sports" for two reasons: (A) they haven't figured out how to sell ad space for low rated shows for the same amount they get for ad space in high rated shows (B) they haven't figured out how to prevent people from changing the channels or turning off the TV when something is on that they no longer wish to watch.
2) I have a hard time defining "educational opportunity" through the lens of NCAA D1 athletics, when less than 1% of high school students end up being D1 athletes on full scholarship.
|13 weeks 3 days ago||Ok, I'll bite||
I do have an end game in mind, though it may not be able to satisfy all those constituencies you mentioned. I think the top schools need to either break away or create a "super division" within the NCAA. Limit it to 66 teams. Have 6 conferences each with 11 teams. This gives you a 10/20 game conference season for football/basketball. Allow 2 non-conference football games and 12-14 nonconference basketball games - all played within the 66 teams that make up this "super division". This would eliminate the cupcake games, give us true conference champions and make a football playoff easier (6 conf. champs + 2 at large bids). This would also facilitate dealing with the compensation issue, as it eliminates the Indiana States and EMUs (sorry guys, you really aren't competing with us in revenue sports anyway) As for the specifics on compensation, I'm pretty much open to anything other than "your full ride scholarship is payment enough quit yer whining".
Now, those constutuencie that your mentioned??? No matter what you do many ADs/Administrators/Fans will just not go for it because they like the status quo. No sensible "new system" will ever satisfy sertain people in those groups. But for the non-revenue/title 9 issue. IMO, this is something that the University will need to solve by deciding whether they still want to support non-revenue sports. If they truly believe that these sports are extra-currcular activities which are an important aspect of their college or university (which I would argue they are) then they should support them just like they do anyth else - through the $ received from tution and governemnt aid. Makes sure you support mens and womens equally and that should addres the title 9 concerns as well.
