Just watched his Hudl…

Just watched his Hudl highlights. Definitely looks the part, but I thought it was funny that only 4-5 clips from a 6 minute video were him as a DE or TE. He was a wide receiver, QB, DT, kick returner, etc.

He’s a good guy. I met him…

He’s a good guy. I met him once on a warm summer evening on a train bound for nowhere.

This is the first year I’ve…

This is the first year I’ve paid any attention to this stuff, because McCarthy is an intriguing prospect. It really is a great example of a couple things. 1. How much an industry is made off of BS talking heads making shit up. 2. How much of a draw the NFL is in the US. That people consume this stuff more than other actual sports, thus justifying the demand for idiot talking heads, is mind boggling.

Halfway through that quote…

Halfway through that quote and I was expecting him to say, “No, what I mean is, you can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a butcher's ass... No, wait. It's gotta be your bull.”

Congratulations to Grayson…

Congratulations to Grayson Dee for being TTB’s Mr. Irrelevant.

Just a suggestion, but it…

Just a suggestion, but it would be cool if the cover had a helmet sticker that commemorates the national championship. Not sure if that would pass the trademark lawyers, but would be a really nice subtle addition to the cover.

Buy it. Don’t over think it…

Buy it. Don’t over think it. It will stay with you forever. National championships are rare. This era of excellence is rare. Having a professionally produced contemporary history of the period from the definitive source for college football fandom is something you will look back on in 20 years with profound feelings of nostalgia and contentment. That is priceless.

I caught wind that the dust settles in Kansas.

If I remove my Michigan and…

If I remove my Michigan and recency bias, this is number 1 for me.

I see this same attitude all…

I see this same attitude all the time in my work, even with many peers (executives in tech). They think about money, but fail to realize that money is the outcome of having a great product.

You can argue that the product would be better with teams that have larger fan bases, but that is a very different argument than saying we should do it because it makes more money. The former is thinking in the long term about what is inherently better, the latter is about making short term optimizations that may have negative long term impact.

I’ve actually been pretty…

I’ve actually been pretty good at maintaining my ESPN boycott since the Wyld Stallyns affair. I’ve moved to CBS sports without issue and with many fewer “hot takes”. While tempting, I’m going to not give this one a click.

Do you mean those whi would…

Do you mean those who would willingly vote for someone who has suggested shooting protesters in the street, says the executive is above the law, openly praises despots, and said he’d like to be a dictator for one day?

So you preferred a sport…

So you preferred a sport where all transactions were under the table, only some teams were punished for those transgressions, and players, the real reason the sport is so popular, were artificially underpaid through anti competitive, monopolistic, self-regulation? You, my friend, would have loved the communist block.

As a seattleite, I can say I…

As a seattleite, I can say I saw this coming. The last couple years, Wilson’s success was a function of Carroll and great receivers. He often held on to the ball too long, took costly sacks, and played “Hero” ball. While he was not a bad quarterback, he wasn’t a top  5qb either. He was more likely an aging top 10-15 qb (stats support this). He was worth about half of what Denver gave up.

My $.02.

i learned to…

My $.02.

i learned to snow board in my early 20s and did it for  20 years before switching to skiing 2 years ago.

if you can afford it, I highly recommend private lessons. Much, much more effective for beginners. Group lessons suffer from least common denominator problem. There will be one or two people who suck so bad that half your time will be spent waiting for them. Private lessons ensure you get the attention you need as a beginner and will get you up and riding faster so you can enjoy the trip more.

regarding skiing or snowboarding, they are both great activities and have become a bit of an obsession for me. I find snowboarding to be more meditative for me. I’m one with the board, my movements are all about fluidity, and I leave the mountain feeling like my mind is clear. Skiing is more like golf, in that I have to focus on body mechanics and is a discipline that I will never stop trying to perfect. At my age, 47, I switched to skiing mainly because I find it easier to enjoy with others, especially my kids.  You fall less, you don’t have to unstrap and slowly kick your way through flats, chairlifts are faster and easier, it opens up more terrain, etc.  if it was a perfect powder day and it was just me, I’d dust off my board and head to my favorite mountain for the day. If I’m with friends or family and conditions are more variable, I’m pulling out my skis and having a blast. Either way, I hope you enjoy  it as much as i have. Have fun!

The only pro bowler’s…

The only pro bowler’s opinion that is worth a lick of salt is Ernie McCracken.

Nik Stauskus referring to…

Nik Stauskus referring to the MBB as “kids” just makes me feel that much older.

I believe what you meant was…

I believe what you meant was, “what’s your deal?”

The only thing that is…

The only thing that is different now is that paying players is more transparent which drives up the cost of labor and puts more power in the hands of the most important resource in college football. The rest, I agree, is psychological dissonance from fans.

Not a picture per se, but…

Not a picture per se, but the image that will be blazoned in my mind and how I will remember this team is Blake Corum flashing the 6 5 after scoring against OSU. It personified what this team is about — love, grit, perseverance, and courage.

I feel like you always see…

I feel like you always see the negative side of things. Why is that?

Honestly, at this point I…

Honestly, at this point I wish I knew what that meant.

You'll get paid but you're…

You'll get paid but you're almost automatically a failure.

Shit, I've been failing for free all my life. I'm guessing someone's willing to get PAID paid to do it for a couple years.

The Alabama game will be up…

The Alabama game will be up there for me with the OSU game in the snow 3 years ago for greatest Michigan football viewing experiences over the past 20 years. Last night, I debated watching the national championship game again or the Rose Bowl. I chose the Rose Bowl, because it just felt like a better game. Saban is an all-time best, and we're lucky that his last game was against Michigan at the Rose Bowl.

I saw this vintage rose bowl…

I saw this vintage rose bowl hat earlier today, which is pretty cool considering where we just played and who we are playing this Monday.

Gotta wonder if Day bolts to NFL after seeing what he’s got left in the cupboard for next year.

If by issues you mean…

If by issues you mean homelessness and drugs, I literally just walked past three separate groups of homeless people preparing meth to smoke in view of any passer by. This is a five block walk from my office to the bus. And I avoided the 3rd and Pike shit show. So, yeah, we got problems.

Living in Washington, it’s…

Living in Washington, it’s sometimes easy to forget that the rest of the country forgets about Washington.

I used to have a smart cat. Makes them that much more mischievous. Now we’ve got two dogs. Dumb as rocks, but happy as hell all the time.

I don’t know. In some ways…

I don’t know. In some ways your worst turned out for the best.

I think Kerr and GS made a…

I think Kerr and GS made a poor business decision. They couldn’t keep Poole and Draymond. They chose to keep the one who had zero trade value and didn’t threaten playing time for the old guard in hopes of getting at least something for Poole. Problem with that is they got a dirt old Chris Paul and gave up a bunch of other consideration. So now the team is old, dysfunctional, and lacks future prospects. All because of a loyalty to a sociopath.

Technically it’s a they/them thing.

In my experience,…

In my experience, traditional “big, tough men” are often the most childish and petty. That type of toughness can be a cover for other issues and insecurities.

3. Not a play, but an image. Sad Ryan Day walking up the Michigan stadium tunnel.

edit: I really don’t remember plays from non OSU games.

I would just clone Mikey Sainristil and play him at all positions.

Yes. He is directly…

Yes. He is directly accountable for the murder of a lot of people. I’m guessing that hell is where those people go even if those deaths were good for the United States, a country that I love and where my family sleeps safely every night. To be fair, most statesmen would be in hell based on that criteria and rightly so.
