Agree. I see a lot of quirky…

Agree. I see a lot of quirky and oddball similarities. Wonder if Dan could succeed in the pros though.

It will please you to know…

It will please you to know that in attempt to get my 12,000 steps in, I park by the farthest cart corral in a store lot and return my cart to the corral in Bolivia at every Costco, Kroger, Walmart etc. I’m sure every store cam has caught me on “tape” and I’m a wanted man.

That’s what I don’t get. It…

That’s what I don’t get. It’s like the world’s worst United Way campaign. I have other financial priorities to consider. The NFL doesn’t ask their fans to contribute any more than the cost of game day and tv money.

Not sure you responded to…

Not sure you responded to the right post . Nothing in there about Beleins teams being good on D. My point was he stressed fundamentals to the point where nba guys hated him. But as a producer of improved college basketball players he was superb. This coaching staff has a poor fundamental basketball team. And that’s on them unfortunately

So many fundamental details…

So many fundamental details lacking on this team. Remember how the NBA guys hated Belein for trying to teach those things. In college basketball it matters. Michigan is horrible at passing, has no clue how to box out, doesn’t rotate back to prevent transition dunks. Just awful at all things fundamental

If it ends 3-0 is Moody MVP?

If it ends 3-0 is Moody MVP?

College basketball is a…

College basketball is a weird sport where teams like Creighton, Villanova and Gonzaga and Xavier are ranked higher than a Michigan or Ohio State these days. No idea what role NIL plays with these small schools, I can’t imagine the NIL offers would outpace a huge fan base like Michigans, but a coach with a system, a plan, and eye for talent can go really far. Essentially what Belein did for UM. There are coaches out there that are capable if Warde looks for them diligently. Buuuut….yeah that’s the problem. Lazy guys make lazy hires

The place where analytics…

The place where analytics fails, I’m sure Campbell going for it was supported by the analytics sheets. But analytics can’t take into account momentum and opportunity for stupid shit to happen. It’s like saying there’s only a 1% chance this plane could crash. Sounds good on a stat sheet but I’m not going in that plane. Lions took the chance and the plane crashed.

Home run hire! Better than…

Home run hire! Better than third base

If one gets credit for…

If one gets credit for nothing happening, one also has to take blame for nothing happening. Fact is we don’t know that Warde did ANYTHING to actually keep Harbaugh in 2020 and in fact did the worst of all things by passively aggressively giving Harbaugh a shit sandwich of a contract in hopes Harbaugh would either 1. Leave on his own or 2. Accept shit contract and make it look like he was a “boss” in doing so. Warde put Warde in a win win position in a lazy self preserving fashion. And THAT is why Harbaugh loathed him. It showed zero courage, and zero support. Had Harbaugh left and called his bluff in 2020, we’d be coached by Matt “don’t call me Brady Hoke” Campbell, but Harbaugh is leaving and once again spineless Warde made an 11th hour offer to save face with the public. Sorry Warde, not having it.

Football is an ever evolving…

Football is an ever evolving sport. Coaches have to reinvent themselves every few years as others adapt to their style and tendencies. My hunch is that Shaw rode the wave a few years and then got stuck in the mud and maybe didn’t find innovative new coaches to evolve. Plus at Stanford, once the wheels started to fall off it’s a tough place to recruit your way out. I’m thinking late  Lloyd Carr days where UM played dinosaur football in a spread world and eroded slowly after 97. Moore has the benefit of better recruiting and now we hope he can fill his staff with smart up and coming coaches and not old retreads

It is incumbent on the UM…

It is incumbent on the UM administration and regents and the university community to build off Harbaughs success, Be Smart, be strategic, be the leaders and best with coaching hires, NIL money etc. As a Yankees fan, I’ve watched smart teams like the Astros and Braves and Rays run circles around the Mets, Yankees and Angels, Padres who spend big money on superstars. You see the smart teams in every sport succeed, but the lazy ones fail.

It’s over. No chance this…

It’s over. No chance this staff can fix this, I’ve seen Amaker and Ellerbe. This is the same, Beleins attention. To details made him unpopular in the NBA, but for college it’s so important, This staff is the opposite. Might work in the NBA but not here,

Question about Sanderson. It…

Question about Sanderson. It seems like we used to get more post camp Sanderson photos of players looking jacked compared to the previous season. I’m thinking of Duncan Robinson and Mo and Franz Wagner in particular but also guys like Jordan Morgan and Derrick Walton and Trey Burke. If I recall, “camp Sanderson” was voluntary. It has not seemed like the last few years had the same number of transformations as we saw under Belein. I could be wrong, but just an observation and I wonder if Juwan isn’t as enthusiastic about “camp Sanderson” as Belein was.

Where does baseball get its…

Where does baseball get its money? I’m a huge baseball fan (Yankees..yeah yeah), and I stopped watching in July once it was clear my team wasn’t going to be relevant. I don’t go to games because who can afford $80 and up for a ticket for below average seats for a family with kids who don’t give a rip about anything but the concession stand. I can’t even tell you who the relevant players are on the actual good teams like the dodgers and braves. My kids don’t watch it. I don’t watch it, so where’s the money if nobody is watching and only corporate entities are regularly attending?

Recency bias in terms of…

Recency bias in terms of Alabama has done well in post season playoffs under Nick Saban while I can’t remember the last time Michigan won a bowl game. I’d bet Alabama as an underdog too based on that. I’m hoping Michigans  approach and performance makes that a suckers bet Jan 1

Just an observation and I…

Just an observation and I may be totally wrong, but since Juwan came back it seems the offense is posting up with Tarris more than they did the first few games. Seems to bog down the flow a ton. The free flowing, shoot in rhythm offense of the first few games seems gone. Maybe its opponent, maybe its film on the new guys, but everything feels clunky on both ends of the floor the last 5 games

I thought UM was going to be…

I thought UM was going to be a defensive team this year. Feels like Paul Westhead is coaching

Dug is a shorter Trey Burke…

Dug is a shorter Trey Burke. There I said it. Very similar recruit rankings  who play way above the ranking and their size, I used to cringe every time Burke would drive and score and land on the floor and think “how can this guy land on hardwood over and over without getting hurt. His shot is pure. It swishes the net so pure.  The flare and “it” factor are present and I’m glad he plays for Michigan. Not saying he is Trey Burke, but the similarities are there

Is there a Big Ten rule…

Is there a Big Ten rule against saying fuck and shit on tv? I only wish he’d said Fuck u Pettite as well. I’m sure they’re looking over the sportsmanship handbook as we speak

Tortoise and the hare game…

Tortoise and the hare game. Got off to too easy of a lead and players start thinking about td celebrations, turnover buffs and lose focus. JJ not staying disciplined and a bit loose on his throws. Clean up the blocking too. O line getting sloppy

Maybe. But tonight’s about…

Maybe. But tonight’s about sending messages. I expect the punter to be under siege all night

I’ll also add, they look…

I’ll also add, they look like some grown ass men out there compared to our baby faced teams the last two years. That alone gives me some hope.

It’s not the NCAA that…

It’s not the NCAA that worries me, it’s Michigan! Most schools tell the NCAA to pound sand and like Kansas basketball or Tennessee football the NCAA takes pennies on the dollar for a punishment and moves  on. But not Michigan. They pony up and take down banners, and suspend coaches to show they’re morally superior while the rest of college sports smirks and laughs. Don’t fall for it Michigan. Tell them to pound sand

Well Saban couldn’t win big…

Well Saban couldn’t win big there, why should we think Urbs will?

Not sure I’d bag on McCord…

Not sure I’d bag on McCord too much. He didn’t make mistakes and with the talent around him he can be pretty effective.

Well they can thank Texas A…

Well they can thank Texas A&M for buying all the players that used to go to Bama for a bag of cash from Roscoe  and Bo’s  car emporium. Saban can’t be happy, but Bama used to stash players on their bench with those “ extra” incentives and now it’s more difficult

I was at the Colorado game…

I was at the Colorado game today. Sat right above the tunnel and Deion comes out with a white hoody over his head about an hour before kickoff and just “moseys” the perimeter of the entire field. The energy in that place was insane. Maybe not Ohio state v Michigan energy but pretty intense. Deion brings swagger. Things were a bit chippy too. Be interested to see if they lose their cool against a tougher foe. Shadur was also under duress an awful lot but does the rabbit out of the hat plays that could be disasters against more athletic teams. The Colorado fans don’t expect Deion to be at Colorado more than 2 years, so Bryce Underwood should consider that before being wowed by the coach prime swagger. I saw all the recruits there and Terrell owens and Shannon sharpe etc. it would impress a recruit.

Peacock in booth official…

Peacock in booth official getting everything wrong today. Now we know why on field officiating was always bad

Not sure the other ones were…

Not sure the other ones were fine either. Bit of a knuckle ball kick. Hope it’s just first game stuff

First play should have been…

First play should have been a jj bomb. Nfl you see that all the time. All that open space to run behind the defense. I don’t get it

Sad. Saw him at buckeye lake…

Sad. Saw him at buckeye lake in Columbus of all places. Concert was an all day tailgate like Saturday football games. Had 2 kegs in the truck. Then afterward everyone passed out on the lawn till someone could drive home in the early morning

Was he a Qb recruit? I seem…

Was he a Qb recruit? I seem to recall him as a Wr. Nice to see him doing good things

Is that “our” Nate Johnson?…

Is that “our” Nate Johnson? And remind me why he is not in Ann Arbor?

Do you recall when Harbaugh…

Do you recall when Harbaugh was at San Diego and we thought he wasn’t “experienced” enough and decided that this Brady Hoke guy was fine, I have no idea if Newsome is any head coach material, but never dismiss a guy just on experience

I sat in the opposite end…

I sat in the opposite end zone from all the Braylon TDs. After Sparty went up 27-10, a collection of well meaning smiley blue hairs started filing out saying crap like “we’ll get ‘em next year. Come along dear, we can be first in line for the shuttle”. I said “all you old f—kers leaving are going to miss the epic come back” I remember how much louder it got as we had more room to stand and scream without the stifling old guard around. One of the loudest games I recall given 30% filed out

So hey Juwan, we won’t admit…

So hey Juwan, we won’t admit transfers you want, and uh yeah we won’t get your NIL stuff going, and won’t hang your Fab Five banners for taking less money  than Kansas NIL for Hunter Dickinson wants. If I was Juwan, I wouldn’t blame him for packing up Jace and leaving to join Jett coaching in the league. The blessing of Belein was he was the unicorn that could win under this system. Good luck to anyone else, UM hoops is dead in this era unless they can get this reconciled with the university,

He’s a test taker!

He’s a test taker!

So Zach Harrison former #1…

So Zach Harrison former #1 recruit and UM kicker get drafted in the same round. Who’d have predicted that in 2018?

So how does UM “afford”…

So how does UM “afford” Caleb Love but not Hunter? Because I’m sure Caleb Love didn’t leave UNC for free.

Remember when Belein used to…

Remember when Belein used to destroy Shaka Smart? I swear if his name was Bob Smith he’d never get hired

I recall a certain football…

I recall a certain football coach around here going shirtless. The phrase “white trash” is in poor taste too. Racial stereotypes aren’t cool even for white guys

Why do these mid major teams…

Why do these mid major teams seem so athletic? FDU just all over the place tonight. Blocking shots, dunking in transition. Purdue looked like they had lead in their shoes. Michigan usually does too. Juwan and co better be checking the portal frequently

The youth argument is legit…

The youth argument is legit. My concern is how coach Howard tries to fix it. May not be a quick fix.

Many of Beleins best players were pretty awful as underclassmen. Mo Wagner as a freshman, Caris Levert, Eli Brooks, Simpson, Teske, DJ Wilson etc. Every one of those guys at some point had us wondering if they should be playing, but fortunately they only had to play support roles early on. Then they blew up as upper classmen. The guy I wish we had on this team is Jaylen Wilson at Kansas. Howard couldn’t keep him aboard after Belein departed, but he’d be the upperclass forward this team is missing.

Remember JB left because he…

Remember JB left because he saw the roster attrition nightmare of transfer portal and NIL coming. Juwan benefited by keeping that group together  and then proceeded to deal with what Belein feared going forward. So Juwan needs to pivot on roster management quickly
