We are staying at the Ace Hotel when we are in Kyoto.  Looks like a nice spot in a great location.  I'll definitely be having a drink (or ten) there!

Feel free to do so!  The trip itinerary is still very flexible.

My wife and daughter need to leave a few days earlier than my son and I...so thus the imbalance between Kyoto and Tokyo.  We need to get back to Tokyo so they can fly out...and then my son and I will remain in Tokyo and spend more time doing things that are more to his liking...probably mostly Akihabara.

So, it's four nights in Tokyo, three nights in Kyoto (but taking train back very late to Tokyo...so almost four full days in Kyoto), and then three nights in Tokyo...but only one for my wife and daughter.

We are going to Japan in May…

We are going to Japan in May in celebration of our son finishing up his one-year Masters of Science in Information.

Also looking for any tips from our far-flung community here on MGoBlog.  Spending 5 or 6 nights in Tokyo and three in Kyoto...with day trips to Kamakura from Tokyo and Nara/Osaka and Hiroshima/Mayajima from Kyoto.

Most interested in knowing what "must-sees" we should skip.  For example, I'd advise anyone spending three or four days in Paris to skip Versailles.

Traveling with 1991 UM Grad and 2026 UM Grad (in prayer on this one) and 2023 (undergrad)/2024 (Masters) UM Grad.

Yes!  Get him to commit to…

Yes!  Get him to commit to three years.  Build the program back up.  Immediately have him bring in a successor in waiting and mentor him...and then hand off the program.

Definitely go grab a meal at York, which is on Packard just a mile from campus.  Really great vibe and atmosphere.  A few different restaurants...and lots of wine!  Sort of a mini, fun food court.  The BBQ place - Ricewood - is excellent.

I partially agree and…

I partially agree and disagree with your thoughts.

Certainly, it's become more "professional."

But, for me, the connection isn't so much to the individual players as it is to the entire experience and institution.  Both of my parents went to Michigan.  I met my wife at Michigan.  Both of our kids are current students.

There's nothing like that feeling I get when we exit on to Main Street on football Saturdays...and the buzz of excitement that you can feel as you get closer to Michigan Stadium.  Then, walking in to the stadium and getting settled in to the seats we've had for a very long time.  Finally, the emotions I feel when the team rushes on to the field to "The Victors."   Always brings a tear to my eye and/or gets the adrenaline flowing.

Were it not for Michigan, my life would be very different...and less rich.

The names on the jerseys don't matter as much to me.

Was told by “someone who…

Was told by “someone who would know” that Rutger is most likely coming back for a third year.

Bake Station!  But alas they closed. I miss having easy access to their seven layer cake.

Listen, it's undeniable that…

Listen, it's undeniable that the OSU football team is stacked with talent.  Plus, they went out and picked up a few players at key positions in the portal.

They probably should be considered to be the favorite to win the Big Ten next year.

It's been great for Michigan to be the dominant team the last three years...but let's not pretend that OSU is all of a sudden a doormat or that they don't have the talent to win the Big Ten and/or get to the Playoff.

Backup for Goff?  I’m sure he’d come cheap.

Nice comment, HE.  "S & M Barbie"

Not at all oozing with sexism and misogyny.

These numbers are inflated…

These numbers are inflated. There is no fucking way Keon Sabb got $2 million to transfer to Alabama.

I also do not have an email…

I also do not have an email from February 13.

As a season ticket holder, I've got emails from "Michigan Hockey" dated 2/2, 2/8, 2/9, 2/16, 2/21, 2/22, 2/23....plus dozens more that I received in January and before.

Seems odd that I would've missed or not received this email that was allegedly sent on 2/13.

EDIT:  It looks like a few people received an email this morning.  I also did not receive that email.  The only email I received from Michigan Athletics was a confirmation of my football ticket renewal.

We should enjoy watching him…

We should enjoy watching him over these last few games. I’d be very surprised if he didn’t transfer. A 3rd year Dug would be a great addition to a contending team.

Thanks for doing this,…

Thanks for doing this, TruBlu!

This confirms what many of us saw.  A group of very, very good - but not necessarily elite - players who took advantage of their relative experience, teamwork, and great coaching to win the championship.

It’s not having it both ways…

It’s not having it both ways. White people have not historically been marginalized.

I buy a lot of media in…

I buy a lot of media in metro Detroit. There’s no fucking way I’d advise my clients to spend even $10 or $20 for a commercial on 1270 am. Maybe $5.

Well, up until just a few…

Well, up until just a few decades ago, Black folks watched and listened to media and entertainment provided almost exclusively by White folks.  So, there's your answer!

This is doomed to fail,…

This is doomed to fail, regardless of the talent of the personalities.

Radio, in general, is dying out gradually.  While AM radio is dying even more quickly...especially signals like 1270, which are relatively weak and are at the end of the dial.

Harbaugh had a long-term track record of success as a football head coach.

Howard does not have the same track record of success.

I bet he drives around with a bottle of Grey Poupon in his Rolls...just in case anyone pulls up next to him and asks him if he has any on him.

Does anyone else have the…

Does anyone else have the feeling that the football team's National Championship has created a disturbance in the force?

Seems like almost all of the the other Michigan sports are struggling right now.

Agreed.  Those who are…

Agreed.  Those who are opposed to any common sense gun legislation love the "it's too soon to have this discussion" argument.

Fine, if it's too soon to discuss common sense gun legislation in light of this tragedy, is it too soon to discuss common sense gun legislation in light of the tragedy a year ago at MSU?

How long do we need to wait until it's no longer "too soon?"

This thread will probably…

This thread will probably get deleted or locked, but the argument that "guns don't kill people, people kill people" is so comically and pathetically intellectually dishonest.

Other countries have people.  Other countries have mental health problems.  Other countries have divorces.  Other countries have social media and video games.  Other countries have "bad hombres" and shitty people who don't have any regard for life.

What is the one factor that makes America unique among every country?

The answer to this question reveals why America has by far the most amount of gun-related deaths.

As best as I can tell, you…

As best as I can tell, you are looking for advice about whether you should pay for one hour of work.  Yes?

If so, pay the bill and move on.

I am not an attorney, but no credible attorney could give you advice based on your general description of what occurred.

Not only shouldn't this be a diary, it probably shouldn't have been posted here.

I need a cigarette after…

I need a cigarette after reading that.

This is exactly right.

This is exactly right.

After the top five or six teams, the next 10-15 are only separated by the presence of one 5* player or a slight difference in the ranking of their 4* players.

If Michigan had one 5* player in its class, it would be ranked #6 or so.

I own a boutique ad agency…

I own a boutique ad agency geared to local businesses...so I'd consider myself to be pretty "up" on the current trends in media.

There is some evidence that people are beginning to "uncut" the cord...as they discover the costs and hassles involved with maintaining multiple accounts with multiple streaming services.

I, for one, don't mind overpaying a bit to be able to turn on my TV and have everything I want to watch at my fingertips.

User name does NOT check out in this case!

My wife and I spent about a half hour at MDen a few weeks ago.  Walked around in circles looking at everything.  Left empty-handed.  Didn't like any of the designs and/or the material of the shirts and sweatshirts.  Tacky and overdone designs with too many logos...and cheap material.

Been that way pretty much since the beginning for us since the switch back to Nike/Jordan.

I buy most of my stuff at Underground Printing and at a store near us called Caruso Caruso.  I like this thicker sweatshirts and the tri-blend, more fitted t-shirts.

I'm going to refrain on making "offered" jokes...since I'm late to the party.  I'll be disappointed if I scroll through the comments and see that I'm the first to make the joke.

Like most of us here, I'm just guessing when it comes to my thoughts...

That being said, you'd think Clink and Elston would've both had DC opportunities by now...given their ages...if they had the potential or wanted the opportunity.

I'm guessing either they don't have the skillsets or the interest in being a DC.

Heh heh.  He said "taint."

It's interesting to see…

It's interesting to see people on this blog complain about the attention Swift is getting.

I'm assuming these same people have typically defended Harbaugh against the complaints that he gets too much attention in the media.

It's not Swift's - or Harbaugh's fault - that what they say and do gets so much attention. That's what happens when you are very successful in your field...and do things a little bit differently than what is expected or desired.

The reality is that Swift's following is bigger and stronger than that of the NFL...or any individual team or player.  The thirty seconds (or less) of exposure she gets every Sunday helps the NFL a lot more than it helps Taylor.

I, for one, am looking forward to the halftime announcement that Taylor and Travis are supporting Joe Biden...as has been predicted by various conspiracy theorists in the MAGAsphere.

I had to downvote you for…

I had to downvote you for reminding me of that game.

A friend of mine threw his remote control through a window in his parents' basement when that happened.

You can see by my user name that I came of age with the Pistons Bad Boys teams.  It was exciting to see them get closer and closer to the ring every year.

Sal, that's not accurate.

Sal, that's not accurate.

On the nicest streets, houses are going for $400-800 per square foot, depending on a variety of factors. The higher end ($600-800 per sq ft) would be very large (6K sq ft or larger) brand new custom homes.

Maybe there are some condos going for $1,000 per square foot or more...but not any single family homes.

It's still a key factor.

I've read research saying that the number one way to increase your chances of admission to a competitive university is to be from Montana.  Every university wants a full representation of kids from each of the 50 states.

Admissions to many selective…

Admissions to many selective colleges are no longer done on a rolling basis.

Admission decisions come out on a particular date.  Used to be just before Christmas.  That's when our son (2023 UM Grad) got his acceptance notice.

Due to the pandemic and the increase in applicants, it was moved to the last Friday of January in 2021 and has remained there.  Michigan also has a round of admissions that get announced the last Friday of February and the last Friday of March.

Good luck!

Good luck!

We've got a sophomore and a grad student at Michigan.

Grad student was admitted for undergrad in the first round.

Sophomore was deferred in Jan and Feb but admitted in the third round of notices in late March.  We also know a few people who have had kids get admitted in the spring and summer.

In other words, today's decision is not the last decision.  Bad news today could become good news down the line!

Nice to see you back on the…

Nice to see you back on the blog, Ace.

While I enjoy all of the football analysis we get on MGoBlog, the personal nature of much of the writing is what keeps me coming back.

My father (who was a student manager on the Cliff Keen-coached wrestling team in 1946) passed away on December 15, so I'm in the middle of feeling all of the feels.  He and my mother (who passed away seven years ago) were both Michigan grads.  I met my wife in Ann Arbor.  Both of our kids are currently students at Michigan.  It's a big part of who we are...and to have lost my father in between the victory over OSU and the playoff wins has me on quite the emotional rollercoaster.

I loved this scene in the movie "Parenthood," when the grandma shared this thought with the Steve Martin character:  "You know, when I was nineteen, Grandpa took me on a roller coaster. Up, down, up, down. Oh, what a ride! I always wanted to go again. You know, it was just so interesting to me that a ride could make me so frightened, so scared, so sick, so excited, and so thrilled all together! Some didn't like it. They went on the merry-go-round. That just goes around. Nothing. I like the roller coaster. You get more out of it."

Ace, thanks for sharing your rollercoaster of a journey with us. I'm hoping you start to experience more peaks than valleys.

Wishing you success and happiness as you try to move forward and face the challenges with which you've been confronted.

My favorite part was the fact that I was on camera quite a bit. Was sitting directly behind the podium in the first row above the Maize Rage. You could see me and my wife and son next to Jansen’s head when he was at the podium. Likewise any other taller speaker.
