that's unfortunate, but at least the interest is there on both sides

I'm amazed that anyone really thinks that Beilein will pass up the opportunity to bring in a transformative player in favor of keeping Hatch on the team.
There's no doubt that Hatch's story is incredible and inspiring, but Beilein has already gone above and beyond what could be expected by honoring his scholarship for this year.
Jaylen could make U of M an instant Final Four favorite...and could be the player to get the team to the "next level" of success and reputation...which could have a positive effect on recruiting and performance for many years to come. You don't pass up this opportunity.
There are other ways to live up to the spirit of the promise or obligation to Hatch. Medical scholarship. Team manager. Maybe one year as a walk-on and then resuming the scholarship after this year.
Put yourself in Hatch's shoes. You'd certainly realize the impact a player like Jaylen could have on the team and would be more than willing to give up your spot on the roster to help out the team...while still being able to be involved as a manager, trainer, walk-on, etc.

We're all Jewish. (and please refrain from any cheap Jew jokes)

My in-laws neither offer nor flinch when the check hits the table. I'm like "WTF?!?"
On the other hand, the only way to be able to pay when we're out with my parents is to do the before-the-meal credit card thing with the server.

Not that you care, but we probably couldn't be friends.
1. No shoes allowed in my house. Do you have any idea what's on the bottom of shoes? I can't even imagine and don't want to know.
2. Hair = food goes back to the kitchen. And, yes, I know that it is possible that they simply pull out the hair and bring the same dish back to me.
3. I have a 13 year old son and an 11 year old daughter and I think that participation medals are ridiculous.
4. 90 degrees? Indoor activities, please.

...I'm finding myself to be curious about your wife's rules for what constitutes an appropriate and "fun" table.
What are the criteria? Or is her level of table satisfaction random and/or subject to whims and changing preferences?

I'm reading this on the app so I'm squinting and holding the phone as far away as possible...and the lack of matching is still pretty obvious. Oy.

Finished law school but didn't take the bar as I had no interest in being an attorney and in spending the time necessary to study for the bar.
When I shared this news with my mother, she told me that maybe I should consider therapy because she couldn't understand this decision, based on the fact that I "always wanted to be an attorney."
I responded that it was actually she who wanted me to be an attorney...and that my position was that those who pursued a career in law were the ones who needed therapy.
Unfortunately, you can count me among those young Jewish males who felt obligated to attend either law or medical school...and given that my science classes consisted of "Plants, People and the Environment," the decision was pretty simple.
Not sure if things have changed at U of M, but I always felt as though there should've been more of an effort to provide career guidance for students...to avoid people like me making the decision to go to law school just because I didn't know what else to do after graduation.
(by the way, I'm not blaming my mother or U of M for me making the decision to go to law school)

|8 weeks 1 day ago||Yes to the point about increased property values...||
While acknowledging that the article is poorly written and that she comes across as whiny and clueless, there is some validity to her point.
The reality can be different than how things appear.
We purchased our current home at the depths of the Detroit area housing market just over four years ago. It's now worth 60-75% more than what we paid for it. We are literally living in a house that we could not afford to purchase at the current value.
Plus, she isn't giving us the complete set of facts. What we don't know is when her parents bought their home and what they paid for it. Maybe they purchased it 15 years ago for $500,000. Yes, they have $1,500,000 in equity, but it is equity only on paper, and with their lifestyle and where they live, it is likely that the bulk of their savings is in the house.
So, while if they sold their house they would be wealthy, it is possible that they are living a somewhat middle class existence in their very wealthy area.
And, yes, I agree with those who have argued that they choose to live in this costly area. We live in the community of Southeast Michigan where houses have a very high cost per square foot. And, we live in what is probably the most expensive area within this community. We could have a much larger house elsewhere for less money, but we like living where we live and are willing to make the necessary "sacrifices" to live here. But I'm smart enough to realize that these "sacrifices" are really rich people problems...and not "real" problems as she is portraying them.
I wish she would've had a friend read the piece before it was published or just had the smarts to not go public with such an inane argument.

Seeing The Cars in 1984 was the most disappointing experience of my life. Like undoing a girl's bra and a ton of tissues come tumbling out. So much less than I was expecting from one of my favorite bands. Saw them at Lolla a few years ago and nothing had changed.

One of my friends is a Michigan grad who married an Indiana grad. She is only an Indiana fan when IU happens to beat Michigan in basketball or football. Otherwise, she couldn't care less and probably couldn't even tell you that Tom Crean is their hoops coach.

I agree with you completely. The harm to a student when a school pulls an offer can't be compared to the much lesser harm done to a school when a kid decommits.
