1 day 23 hours ago Your dad...

...is correct.

Dave and Chuck will probably deliver somewhat similar ratings...at a fraction of D & M's salaries.

Lower cost = increased profit margin.

1 week 2 days ago Vet bills...

...are crazy.  It cost us $1,500 to put our cat to sleep.

I've advised both of my kids to become a vet.

-Pet ownership continues to increase.

-People spoil their pets.

-Can't be replaced by the internet or technology.

1 week 2 days ago The wife...

...returns from a three-day business (or so she says) trip, so I'll be looking to get some alone/quite time...as part of my recovery from being a single parent for three days.

The recovery should include a few ciders.

Rest of the weekend will be filled with old married guy stuff...kids' soccer games, Birmingham Art Fair, hosting of Mother's Day festivities, etc.  Although, we're taking the easy route for Mother's Day and bringing in a deli tray.  We'll have some leftovers, so feel free to stop by!

I'll be interested to hear the reviews of non-critics...

1 week 3 days ago Jealous...

...of your stories.  Much like my story re:  getting engaged, my "getting in to Michigan" story is pretty lame.

I applied only to Michigan, knowing I'd get in.  Sometime in the fall of my senior year in high school, the large envelope arrived.

In retrospect, applying to only one school was - of course - a naive and over-confident choice.  Almost thirty years later, I'm still surprised that my parents never forced me to develop a back-up plan.

There was, however, no way this Michigan Man would've attended school in East Lansing.  Maybe Wayne State?  Fortunately, I never had to think about it.

2 weeks 3 days ago Great read

On a related note, the 1989 UM Grad family is bringing home two kittens today! I will be happy to provide you with pictures to use in future diaries.

2 weeks 6 days ago Why?

Why don't you want the media to make him out to be a hero?

There have been probably tens of thousands of gay professional athletes that have come before him...and he's the first to publicly acknowledge his sexuality while still playing the game.

You could debate whether he is a "hero," but we should all applaud his courage and willingness to risk his career.

5 weeks 6 days ago At MIA

Was scheduled to return to the Detroit area from our family trip to Miami.  Diverting to ATL for tonight's game!

My focus has been off since we beat Florida.

5 weeks 6 days ago Wife and Daughter

...both had Michigan winning the championship.  If (when!) Michigan wins, my nine year old daughter will come in 3rd in a 250-person pool.  She also had MSU and Ohio losing in the round of 64.  "I could never root for them, daddy!"

6 weeks 13 hours ago I'm going!

In Miami for a family vacation.  Scheduled to come back to DTW on Monday.  Diverting to ATL!

6 weeks 14 hours ago ATL

6 weeks 4 days ago Spike

I don't know if any of you were at the exhibition game for which Trey was suspended, but Spike played most of the game and looked really good. 16 pts and 6 assists IIRC. He will be more than capable at PG if Walton isn't ready to start next year.

6 weeks 4 days ago Birmingham

My kids are growing up there, too!

6 weeks 5 days ago $3

StubHub had tickets for $3 for Sunday's game...as of Saturday night.  Even the best tickets were going for under $100.  Assuming this was Kansas fans dumping their tickets and scalpers being left in a low-demand environment.

I'm hoping the same thing holds true for next Monday...assuming we're still playing.

Caveats of paperless ticketing, more excitement for a championship game than a regional final, etc.

That's a smile born of 35 years of climbing the ranks, doing it the right way, finally being rewarded for his efforts, and having the "he can't get past the Sweet 16" perception lifted.

What a great moment for him.

6 weeks 6 days ago Rather than recount what I did...

....here is a copy of one of my many posts from Friday night...

"...screeching like my 9 year old daughter and her friends...watching the game alone in the dark in my family room...drunk on the blue drink I was drinking out of my 20 year old Michigan glass.

I've been on the phone with my 45 year old Michigan grad friends and we're all losing our minds.  Between Denard and Trey this is an epic era in Michigan sports.

I'm losing my mind over here."

6 weeks 6 days ago 1989

The weekend we won the championship was also Hash Bash...and the Greatful Dead were in town at Crisler.

Copious amounts of pot and rioting on South U.

6 weeks 6 days ago All of this "which was better" stuff...

...is difficult for me.

You can't compare one great U of M happening to another.

Kansas vs. UTL

Today's FL win vs. Capitol One Bowl

Denard vs. Burke

Fab Five vs. Fresh Five

Etc.

I have great memories of all of them...as well as every major U of M football and basketball accomplishment since the mid '70's (was born in '67 and both parents are UM grads so it's been in my blood since I was a young lad).

Why can't we just enjoy all of them for what they are...without having to compare/contrast or decide which was "better?"

(sorry if this is too much of a "get off of my lawn" speech...but I guess I'm getting a bit tired of the "which is better" discussions...which seem to be proliferating lately)

6 weeks 6 days ago MGoBlog Section?

If we make it to Monday, let's buy tix on StubHub in the same section and sit together.

On the other hand, all of us sitting together might cause the universe to explode...or somehow break MGoBlog.

7 weeks 1 hour ago I'm changing my name to Dennis Bergkamp...

...and playing that audio at the end of each business day.

7 weeks 2 hours ago The original post feels a bit like a troll, but...

...by any substantive measure the Big Ten was the best conference in basketball this year.

In addition to all of the stats cited above, a quick look at Kenpom reveals that the Big Ten still has 5 teams in the top 12, even after our losses in the tournament.

7 weeks 1 day ago If I were...

...drunker, I'd probably post my address.  Thankfully, three drinks isn't quite enough.

Just drive around Birmingham until you see the house with the giant sub that's so big it couldn't fit inside the house and is sticking out of the front door.

7 weeks 1 day ago I was...

...screeching like my 9 year old daughter and her friends...watching the game alone in the dark in my family room...drunk on the blue drink I was drinking out of my 20 year old Michigan glass.

7 weeks 1 day ago Birmingham

I live in Birmingham.  For realz.  Just show up to my house.  There's a ten-foot sub sitting in my kitchen!  I don't care if this is the dumbest thread every started on MGoBlog.  Fuck yes!  It's 1989 all over again!!!!!!

8 weeks 23 hours ago McGary

8 weeks 1 day ago This

is shaping up to be a great thread. I'm in section 210.

8 weeks 2 days ago In the house...

...as you kids like to say. Section 210. Should've brought my glasses. Everything on the court looks a bit blurry.

8 weeks 3 days ago I'm in a panic...

Just did the Wall Street Journal blind bracket and picked VCU to beat Michigan.

I also ended up with a final four made up of all the #1 seeds.

I do have some good news to report, however.  My 9 year old daughter filled out her bracket last night...and she has both Michigan State and Ohio State losing in the round of 64.  When I explained that there is almost no chance that either team will lose and that it would hurt her chances of winning the pool in which we participate, she said that she didn't care...and that she always roots against both teams.  She's clearly being raised the right way.  I'm filled with nachas!

8 weeks 4 days ago Great stuff...

It must be very difficult to keep your "fandom" bottled up while sitting among the other members of the press.  There have been at least a handful of "I can't believe he did that" Trey Burke-inspired outbursts involuntarily emanating from me in just about every game this season.

My son is 11, and he and I have missed very few football and basketball games over the past few years.  It appears as though both Trey Burke and Denard Robinson have created the same feelings of wonder and awe that you felt for Michael Jordan.  He loves to tell me about the moves he makes while playing basketball...that are "just like Trey Burke."

Ace, this is the kind of writing that makes this blog one of my only daily reads.  Thanks!

9 weeks 3 days ago Triangle of Champions

I treasure my "triangle of champions" t-shirt! Went to the Rose Bowl that year and rioted on South U in April.

9 weeks 4 days ago 3rd Seed

Do we know for sure that we'll be slotted in Auburn Hills if we end up as a third seed?

I bought my tickets early in February...and just want to be able to use them!

10 weeks 3 days ago It's all on me...

We started playing better when I muted my tv and stopped paying close attention to the game. I guess I'll spend the rest of the game watching in this manner. I'm currently doing dishes and cleaning our kitchen counters.

10 weeks 6 days ago Not a bracketologist...

...but...

Win the next two games + win the (or maybe just make it to the finals?) BTT = #1 seed

or...

Lose the next two games + early exit in BTT = #4 seed

11 weeks 1 day ago Sarcastic

The whole post was meant to be sarcastic, but then it took a turn for the worse when the OP fixed his mistake.

The multiple errors in the post were done on purpose.  The whole they're their there thing - as well as using an ' in plural words - has become a bit of a running commentary on the board.

I'll put my tail between my legs for my ill-fated attempt at humor.  This also proves that the joke isn't funny if you have to explain it.

11 weeks 1 day ago Alamaba

I think they're coach is Sanab.  Their located somewhat near Aunurb University.  There tradition of football excellence is unmatched by other college's.

EDIT:  Of course, the OP changed the thread title, thereby making my extremely witty comment seem offtopic.  For those of you who missed out on the fun, the OP's original thread title referred to "Alamaba."

11 weeks 1 day ago Parallel lives...

11 weeks 3 days ago Albrecht

Is it just me or does the one announcer keep calling him "Albrite?"

11 weeks 6 days ago Yes

The current state of UM football and basketball is definitely less likely to generate emotional heart-felt writing. There's less to write about.

11 weeks 6 days ago Sandwich

Someone needs to give one to Giuliana Rancic. (Yes, I am watching the E! red carpet pre-show)

12 weeks 1 day ago Ditto

Both parents went to U of M. Only school to which I applied. Met my wife while in school there. Go Blue!

12 weeks 1 day ago Red Mesa Grill

Boyne City. First time here. Very good. Would recommend. Great raspberry mojitos.

12 weeks 5 days ago Defense was driving me crazy

I think the people sitting near me during the game must've thought I was watching a different game.

Everyone is cheering and getting excited and I was sitting there like we were down by 20 throughout the entire game.

Not a satisfying performance...and, like everyone has mentioned, the defense is going to be a huge issue if we don't find a solution (and we need to find one if if J-Mo can't play).

12 weeks 5 days ago Top Five

The reality is that we're likely to be back in the top five a week from now...given how the season has gone thus far.

I haven't looked at the schedules of all of the top six teams, but it's likely that at least two of them will lose or have a shaky victory that bumps them back a few spots.

We clearly need to win out, though, to have a shot at the Big Ten title and at ending the season in the top five.  I don't see how we can lose another game and end up in the top five at the end of the season.

13 weeks 1 day ago Not seeing it...

EDIT:  Never mind.  Just noticed the hand on the chest at the beginning of the gif.

13 weeks 2 days ago Relax...

I never used the word relax.  I agree;  I hate it when people tell me to relax.  It makes me less relaxed.

By let it roll, I meant that you should just cease responding and commenting.

13 weeks 2 days ago Last name...

Assuming you're applying for jobs in the state of Michigan, having the last name "Tressel" may be hurting your prospects.

(note my proper use of you're and your)

13 weeks 2 days ago Dude

Being so defensive is just making it worse.  Anyone who starts any sort of OT thread takes at least some abuse.  Just let it roll.

13 weeks 2 days ago Turn that frown upside down...

EDIT:  Never mind.  The comment to which I was responding seems to have disappeared.

13 weeks 3 days ago I'm a people pleaser...

...so I will edit when I'm in front of my computer again.

13 weeks 3 days ago I agree/disagree...

Yes, it's sad that 18-22 year old kids should have to apologize for their performance.  They definitely shouldn't be held to the same standard as those who are getting paid to play.

But, it's a credit to him for making the statement...and taking responsibility for what was, at best, a very flat performance by the team.  I'm sure Coach B is holding them accountable for their lack of effort...and maybe THJ felt the need to make a public statement as a way of motivating his teammates.

That being said, I still think that this team has the ability to make some noise in March (and maybe in April?!?).

I was actually a little disappointed with myself for using that word more than once in the same post.  I typically take pride in my extensive reservoir of synonyms.

Please feel free to select a word from the below list and use it to replace the last two appearances of the word "inane" in my post.

absurd, asinine, daft, empty, fatuous, flat, foolish, frivolous, futile, harebrained, idiotic, illogical, imbecilic, innocuous, insipid, jejune, laughable, meaningless, mindless, pointless, puerile, ridiculous, sappy*, senseless, silly, trifling, unintelligent, vacant, vacuous, vain, vapid, weak, wishy-washy, worthless

"If you don't like it, don't click on it and comment."

This is an on-going but erroneous response that posters make in response to the complaints of other posters.

I am entitled to express my displeasure about this thread, just as much as someone else is entitled to respond substantively to it.

When you don't like something, you can either do nothing or do something.  In this case, I am choosing to do something.  Maybe if enough people complain about inane threads, they will cease to exist.

The more inane threads that are posted, the more likely it is that interesting threads are moved off of the MGoBoard thread list on the home page.

So, there is a negative impact of these types of threads.

I'd also point out that it's telling that your OP has no upvotes...only downvotes.

(yes, I realize this is just a sports blog, and I don't take it as seriously as it appears by my above comments, but it doesn't mean that I can't be annoyed by these inane/pointless topics)

If he responded in that manner, the questions would subside/stop.

17 weeks 6 days ago Mental preparation

Disagree with this comment re:  mental preparation.

The coaching staff gets too much credit and too much blame in these instances.

We're a young team.   Playing our first big road game of the year.  I don't care what a coach says or does, there's only so much you can do to prepare someone for a game like this.

The players have to execute...and, in the first 15 minutes, they didn't.  Even the normally sure-handed Burke was bobbling and mishandling the ball quite a bit.  They were nervous and, as a result, they made mistakes.  It happens.

Doesn't negate the fact that we clearly proved that we are a top team...one that will contend for the Big Ten title and be a factor in mid-March and beyond.

17 weeks 6 days ago We must've been...

...watching different games.

UM was obviously tight coming out.  Jitters led to poor decision making, turnovers, ill-advised shots, etc.  Understandable with a young team that has yet to face a real road test.

It's a credit to the coaching staff and the poise of the team that we came back from a 20-point deficit and made a game of it.   Yes, we lost.  But, we did "step it up in a big game."

On a side-note, did anyone catch Clark Kellogg's comment to Matta about how much he sweats during games?  Funny stuff...

18 weeks 2 hours ago Bagels

I'm not going to quibble with the original post, as that's already been done quite effectively.  Bottom line is that, to a program like Michigan's, #1 does matter.

What I'm more upset about is your condescension toward what are, actually, non-boring bagels.  A dozen plain or egg bagels would be a much more boring bagel order.

As you can tell by my MGoName, I witnessed both the national championship and Fab Five eras.

Those teams were both incredible, but, somehow, this year's team seems just a bit more special.  I'm not sure if it's because I've been lucky enough to share the experience with my 11 year old son...or because it was somewhat unexpected...but it's incredible to witness how this team plays together.

They aren't quite elite defensively, but I've never seen an offense perform at such a high level.  It's truly like a world-class ballet or symphony.  Each player fills their role almost perfectly.  Very few errors.  Everyone seems to be where they need to be...when they need to be there.

This group is truly bringing the genius of Beilein's system to life.

Oddly, while I can't remember a specific gift, my parents - both Jewish - always left presents for me on Christmas morning. We did light a menorah but I never received daily gifts on Chanukah.

21 weeks 5 days ago My acceptance...

...came via snail mail...back in the fall of 1984.

I knew I had been accepted even before I had opened the envelope, as I received a full-sized thick envelope, rather than a standard envelope that obviously contained a letter and nothing else.

Thank goodness I was accepted, as U of M was the only college to which I applied.  At the time, I would've rather stayed in my job at the mall than suffer what I felt would have been the indignity of attending MSU.

22 weeks 2 days ago Ford Field

I've also abandoned the idea of being able to have an enjoyable time with my son at Ford Field.  We have season tickets to UM football and basketball...and we go to quite a few Pistons/Tigers/Red Wings games.

While I've certainly seen unruly behavior at each of the other venues, the crowd at Ford Field is - by far - the most consistently obnoxious.

I don't mind the atmosphere at Ford Field so much if I'm just with my buddies, but it's so reliably unruly that I'm not sure why anyone would take their kids to a Lions game.  I've watched games in suites and from the club seats, and it's still pretty bad even in these higher-rent areas of Ford Field.

22 weeks 3 days ago Did...

THE_KNOWLEDGE tip you off on this?

23 weeks 3 days ago WJR

I'm quite familiar with the radio business, so I'll chime in with a few odds and ends here...

WJR is owned by Cumulus, not Clear Channel.

And, yes, they are just a shadow of what they used to be, in terms of both ratings and influence.  They still manage to generate a significant amount of revenue, however, due to many older decision makers being among their small but loyal audience.

The relationships between the broadcasters and the colleges are governed by long-term contracts, so WJR would not be able to just "switch back" to carrying Michigan sports.

Also, college football drives these relationships.  Any radio broadcaster is focused on two things...ratings and revenue.  College basketball doesn't generate much of either.  College football does.

There is also a trend toward the teams (whether pro or college) paying the broadcaster to carry the games...and then the team sells the marketing opportunity to the advertisers.  This allows the team to bundle together radio, tv, in-arena, and hospitality.

Plus, this arrangement ensures that the relationship is profitable for the broadcaster.  Due to increased availability of games on tv, internet, etc., the revenue generated by radio broadcasters for in-game advertising has decreased.  This resulted in many of these relationships being unprofitable for radio broadcasters...as the rights fees exceeded the advertising revenue generated.

Some radio stations, however, are willing to absorb a small loss or be content with a break-even situation...in return for the marketing/prestige/credibility benefits that they receive by associated with pro and/or college teams.

Hope this brief primer is interesting to some of you.

23 weeks 4 days ago The sprinting to the huddle...

The comments about his energy are spot on.

I was at the game last night and told my buddy to watch McGary when he goes in and out of the game...or when we go in to a time-out.

He literally runs when he goes in and out of the game.  When he's on the bench and a time out is called, he's the first one to jump up and run out to the players who were on the floor.

I just noticed last night that when he comes out of the game, he also goes down the entire bench to high five everyone.

You can't coach that type of energy, passion and enthusiasm.

Once he harnasses his talents and cuts down on the mistakes, he's going to be very difficult for opponents to handle.

24 weeks 1 day ago Bo and Hoke is correct

While he may have bunched up his undies a bit, the sentiment is accurate. RR recruited all of the players who will be SR, JR and RS SO, so of course his recruits will make up the bulk of our "best" players. My guess is that in two or three years we'll look back at the best RR players as being relatively weak in comparison to the best Hoke players.

24 weeks 2 days ago 2013 NBA Draft

It's starting to look very likely that we lose three underclassmen from this team. Burke, Hardaway and GR3 are all performing like potential first round picks. And what if Staskas continues to make 3's at a 60% clip? I know it's been said many times, but hats off to this coaching staff for identifying and nurturing under-the-radar talent.

24 weeks 4 days ago Not to reply to myself, but...

Despite his negatives, his production overall has been a pleasant suprise over the past three seasons.  There's no doubt that he is a positive factor on the team and will be looked at as a strong four-year contributor when his career at UM is over.

24 weeks 4 days ago Morgan

I somewhat agree with all of the above on Morgan.  Yes, he has overachieved in many ways, but he also does seem to fumble the ball around a fair amount...and is sometimes way too hesitant when he gets the ball underneath the basket.  He seems best when he gets the ball in transition and has an open look for a dunk or lay-in.  His problems seem to arise when the ball comes to him when he's set under the basket.  Many times, he fumbles the pass or the rebound.  Or, if he catches the ball, he'll go up with the ball slowly.  Despite his high FG%, it does also seem as though he misses more than his fair share of bunnies.

27 weeks 3 days ago Oy.

This thread has really degenerated.  I wish I could just downvote my post...or maybe I should delete my comment.  Time to bail out?

That being said, I honestly think the OP brings up a somewhat original/different take on this issue...given the real possibility that Denard may not be able to play QB between now and 12/1.

27 weeks 3 days ago This question...

...is a bit different than the ones that have been posed in the past.

If Denard is unable to play quarterback for the next 3-5 games, is he (or the team) best served by him sitting out or by being put at a different position?

I think you answer it the same way the question of what to do with Devin was answered this year.

Assuming he can adequately grip the ball to avoid fumbling it, he/the team is best served by being out there...whether it be as a KR/PR, RB, or WR.

Could be scary for defenses...with Devin rolling out and tossing a short pass to Denard...or pitching out to Denard....with Denard having some open field in front of him.

29 weeks 5 days ago Not enough points!!!

Wish I had enough points to upvote this.  I may get negged for this, but I think our love for Denard has caused us to ignore his shortcomings.  Borges is calling plays designed to set us up for success and minimize mistakes/turnovers.  When you have a turnover-prone quarterback, the result is conservative playcalling.

I do agree, however, with those of you who have pointed out that the playcalling against Sparty wasn't that conservative.  Denard threw more times than he has in many games...and, yes, the Gallon/Funchess end-zone tosses and the dropped Gardner pass were missed opportunities.

Our connection to the school has really become a very important part of our lives.  My parents both went to Michigan.  My wife and I both are UM grads and met while working at the Michigan Daily.  Our kids are already brainwashed, and my ten year old son and I miss very few home football and basketball games.  He's already announced that even if he can't get in to Michigan and gets stuck going to school in East Lansing, he'll still wear Michigan gear around the campus and at games.  (would this make him a WalMart Wolverine, or does he get an exemption as the son of two UM grads?)

When I first saw the 12 postings, the first thing I wondered was whether McKayla would be impressed. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

This nine pounds that you lost, was that good weight or bad weight?

Maybe you should spell his last name correctly.

Would someone please put away those onions? And the picture looked a bit blurry, too.

42 weeks 5 days ago Plea

The changing of the offense is not at all unusual.   I've been able to have speeding tickets reduced to "blockading traffic," which involves a fine but no points on your record.

43 weeks 14 hours ago UGP!

Stopped in at UGP when I was up for the art fair. My ten year old son has it confiscated in his bedroom so I can't comment on the quality of the publication. Can someone send me another copy?

46 weeks 5 days ago Climax, MI

I used to go to camp in Climax, MI.  Also found it amusing that you could take I-69 to get to Climax.  Even tho I'm now in my 40's, I still go in to Beavis and Butthead mode when I'm on I-94 and pass Climax.

Even when I get to 100 points, I don't think I'll be starting any threads. Too nerve-wracking and scary.

47 weeks 2 days ago 2002 Red Wings

I don't remember everyone being up in arms about the 2002 Red Wings.  The roster was stocked with end-of-career legends who were looking for a Stanley Cup to add to their resumes.  Professional athletes want to win championships.  Yes, they like the $$ and the fame, but, ultimately, they want a ring.

48 weeks 2 days ago Now the father of a middle schooler

Just attended the "clap out" at my son's school.  He just finished 5th grade and is now a middle schooler.  Oy.  On my way to chaperone a pool party for his "graduating" class of about 70 energetic tweens.  This may be an opportune time for a Xanax?

49 weeks 1 day ago Radiohead

Anyone going on Monday? I've never seen them live. Can't wait. I can listen to almost any Zep, Journey, Foreigner, Radiohead, Muse, Arcade Fire, Yes, Strokes, Billy Joel, Who, Arctic Monkeys all the way thru.

Played Play Deep endlessly. Saw them at Harpo's. That was quite an experience.

49 weeks 5 days ago Answering the questions...

1. Potato salad vs pasta salad?  Pasta salad.  I only like potatoes served in a warm format.

2. Hoke vs Meyer?  Hoke, for his pointing abilities.

3. Pornstar kills boyfriend and mails off his bodyparts vs homeless man face ate off.  Homeless man face ate off, because it's a more original method of attack.  The whole bodypart thing is played out.

4. Brisket or pulled pork?  Brisket!  What else would a nice Jewish boy say?!?

5. Stud CB or Stud WR?  Stud CB, because defense wins championships.

1 year 3 days ago Misty eyes here...

I'd point to the games everyone else has listed...especially UTL and Ohio.

At this point in my life, I get misty eyed almost every time the team comes out of the tunnel.

My now ten year old son become very passionate about Michigan sports at the beginning of the RichRod era...and experiencing the games with him has made it much more meaningful for me.

We go to almost every home football and basketball game...and I'm sure some of his most vivid childhood memories will involve U-M football and basketball games with his dad. Realizing this makes each game that much more of a moving experience.

Interestingly, some of the games I remember most vividly (but certainly not in a positive way)  involve losses...Kordell (had left early to get to a dinner), the Horror (was in the car on my way back from Camp Michigania), and FSU in 1991.

C'mon, Magnus.  Don't you know that a recruit is deemed to be "inelligible" when his grades don't meet the NCAA requirements?

Is there any way to determine if this is the first use of the words "endogenous" and "exogenous" in a posting on mgoblog?

Have you considered an evening program? You could maintain your employment, which would reduce your risk factor.

Thank goodness mgoblog and photoshop weren't available when I was in college. How do any of you ever get anything done or find time to get to class?

That can't possibly be real. If it is, it's more proof that people should have to take some sort of test before being allowed to reproduce.

1 year 6 weeks ago Great memories...

It still amazes me that - before the era of instantaneous communication - that so many of us instinctively headed up to South U.  It was as most have described above...huge crowd...some jumping on cars...some broken awnings and store windows.  I remember people hanging from the wires holding up the blinking light at the corner in front of Stucci's.  The Hash Bash/Grateful Dead crowd certainly contributed to the atmosphere...as did the fact that there was still some leftover excitement from our 1989 Rose Bowl victory.  Not to mention the buzz created by the fact that Bo booted Frieder before the tournament...and that we were led to the title by a relatively unknown coach.  It was a great year for U-M sports.  Hoping 2012-13 might be similar.

The South U area was also packed after the Saturday night Final Four games during the Fab Five era.
