I dunno. Minus a 4 year old, that seems like some pretty good entertainment.
|2 days 7 hours ago||I was just thinking...||
Something like this would be a good opportunity for me to take my 4 year old son to his first football game, and if he is bored we can simply leave. Then I remembered the last NFL game I went to. Maybe I'll wait until next fall and catch a college game...

With your style of writing and depth of research, I'd suggest you go the traditional route and make your in-roads at the Freep. Show them this topic, and be ready to be offered grown up columnist money. Which... according to my completely uninformed opinion, is like 26k per year.

Gluten allergies are no laughing matter sir. Some of us have close relatives that have been hypnotised by their excesses. If I meet a celiac person today, I will punch them in their smug little face for recruiting my poor father into their cult of rice bread. I'm not sure if I even consider them people.

I don't know if it's ever meant to be mean, but honestly, the us and them mentality can be pretty hard to shake. I remember making plays on Friday night and people would come up to me on a Monday in class and talk about them. It made you feel like you were on a bit of a pedestal. I'm not the most humble person in the world, but also not the most entitled. I can only imagine what it feels like when millions of people are watching, instead of hundreds... it's easy to feel self important when all eyes are on you.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Wow. That escalated||
Wow. That escalated quickly... makes me think you may have been running this and then saw that I had posted my opinion about it this morning.
I think the data is interesting, in that it is the sort of data that could be used in a political venue to argue either side. I still think that too much is made about big name hires, however, am not surprised that on the aggregate, they work out better. The reason I think that the data may be skewed is because big name programs typically hire big name guys, and Purdue typically hires walruses. So under the radar hires typically work with under the radar resources.
I'd like to see is what happens with truly elite programs that hire big name, middle of the road, or bargain bin candidates. Michigan, OSU, Texas, USC, Alabama, Oklahoma, FSU, etc. When we see that data, we can more firmly understand what it means.
What happens within the same strata of programs when they make these hires?

Miles? No, I do not want Miles here. I don't think anyone on here can give valid input though, as none of us know the real candidates. My opinion on Miles, though, is that he is not a great coach. I will be pretty bummed if he comes here.
I know Brian likes Stitt a lot, but I will never be close enough to a coaching decision to get the information I would need to form a solid opinion. My only takeaway is do not hire big names just because they are big names.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||You are taking my topic||
You are taking my topic WAAAAY too literally. Obviously, I did not mean that we start our job search at the local YMCA. It was an exaggeration to better define my stance. Of course you want someone with AD experience, but just because someone is at CMU or Dartmouth, that does not mean they are not qualified.
Some successful AD's have been successful simply because of their circumstances. It's easier for me to name coaches.
Miles is a strategic idiot. He is only a winning coach because he can draw talent from all over Louisiana, and because he has had strong coordinators and position coaches. If he does not get lucky again with an expert staff, he is a huge flameout at Michigan.
I guess that to restate my stance, some successful coaches are successful because they are good coaches. Many are a product of a perfect storm of recruiting, donors, assistants, and guessing correctly on high school players.
Don't assume that if a coach is successful somewhere, that they will be successful at your school. The transitive property works just as poorly here as it does in football.
On the other side of that coin, don't assume that if someone is the AD at McNeese State, that they cannot flat out direct athletics. What if the AD at McNeese State took all of their programs to new heights? Discovered coaches that now coach at major institutions? You know what that tells me? That this guy won due to his own acumen. He doesn't have a historic school to sell, or funding to go after the big names coaches. He built something out of nothing.
I guess, to wrap it up, even an idiot can keep a train on the tracks, so long as they do not run into any hairbend curves.

I have a better likelihood than Funk to be the OL coach next year. And my resume reads "IT guy and bartender." And I never submitted my resume to the Michigan athletic department. Still. I have better odds.

Politics and all, but wasn't he debating a run for governor? MSU fans... Just show a little gratitude. Michigan fell on a rather large grenade to save the State as a whole. Can you imagine this piece of shit as a politician?
Of course you can. Here's to one less shithead with a future in politics.

The thing that I am curious about is the data retention policy for the University. Do we even know how long DB's emails are stored, outside of his archive file? If the only place they are stored is on the archive file, he may well have deleted the emails. Then, when the FOIA request came through, they would not have been there.
I'm not suggesting that this is the case, but I am opening the conversation to find out if there was some way to circumvent this request.

|4 weeks 4 days ago||You know who else likes to||
You know who else likes to talk about Bo? Hoke and Brandon.
What Harbaugh has is a proven track record at a high level BCS school and in the NFL. He also has the drive to turn a bunch of underachievers into what they can potentially be. Using Bo as an example of how he is qualified is the exact reason we are in this mess. Bo was a great coach and mentor. His coaching tree has been underwhelming, and there is no implied coaching success due to association with him.

I debated that for a bit. When using a plural formal name, what is the standard? I saw two Smiths or two Smith's? And if those two Smitheses each had a beer, then are they the Smiths' beers?
