"The University of Illinois is also in turmoil. The university sports an Interim Chancellor, an Interim Athletic Director, and an Interim Football Coach; the game will be played at Soldier Field, making this an Illini Interim Home Game."

I'd submit that Eleven Swans is the best piece of writing to ever appear on MGoBlog. Though such a statement is inherently subjective...I still think I'm right. The end of that piece is just incredible- "Play. Fight. Win. Please." So, so good. Holds up 9 years later, also.

Classy move by the OSU staff here. My hat is off to them. Some things are bigger than sports.

Such a bummer, and incredibly heartbreaking. My thoughts are with Chad and the whole Carr family.

More incidents than you refer to. Start with a Google search including the word "timeline." Then also see the video that was tweeted by Bomani Jones and others this week of school president. Basically his complete dismissal of the students' concerns, and his attitude of adversarialism, is what has caused this. I'll bet $5 he is out by next Friday.

Hey, I'm glad to see you posting. You offered a lot of good stuff back in the day/around haloscan time.
|5 weeks 1 day ago||Understandable...||
Understandable...but some of that is due to your age. And my perspective is, of course, colored by my own age and experiences: the Fab Five, and Webber in particular, were the coolest damn thing in the world to my 12 and 13-year old self. Therefore, I wholeheartedly disagree with your statement that you'd rather we just didn't have Webber and then not have to give back wins. No, man, just...no. I wouldn't give up what I witnessed for 2 years just to have some modicum of wins put back into record books ex post facto.

I know Hart said this after we beat them in 2007 after coming back from down 10 in the fourth quarter; it's generally cited as the first usage of the phrase vis-a-vis M-MSU: "I was just laughing. I thought it was funny. (The Spartans) got excited, it's good. Sometimes you get your little brother excited when you're playing basketball and let him get the lead. Then you just come back and take it back."

Mustafa: great caller. Hope to hear him again on the show. Loved that guy's perspective, and his outstanding opinion on Drew Sharp.

I have to take issue with the statement that "he sent the video to his phone." The physical evidence does not support this interpretation. If he had completed the "send," it would be found by the forensic investigation. The forensic investigation found no such evidence.
I have some professional experience dealing with forensic investigation of electronic devices in legal proceedings, and will say that if his phone ever received the video, the investigators would find evidence of it in the forensic investigation. Therefore, I don't agree necessarily with the statement that he sent the video without some physical evidence from the woman's phone indicating he either had sent the video to his phone or had attempted to send it but it did t go through to his phone. So far, no word of any such physical evidence from her phone, though of course such evidence may exist.

This comment is so spot-on. I remember listening to Orson's internet radio show about 5-6 years ago, and Big Boutros called in. It was tremendous. I'd listen to him call in to a sports radio show every day. The heavy breathing, the low voice...yeah, good stuff, in a hilariously creepy sort of way. I'd be overjoyed if he called into MGoRadio.

|11 weeks 1 day ago||Compressor||
This is fantastic. Can't wait to listen. One suggestion/request, though: please see if you can get the WTKA sound guy to either: a) use a compressor that also compresses the signal sent through the live stream, or, if he/she is already using one, b) increase its effect. The variance in volume among the different people in the studio makes it difficult to listen via the internet especially. There are times when one person seems to be legitimately 100% louder than others, which causes a lot of issues for those of us trying to find an appropriate volume at which to listen.

One thing that jumped out to me when reading the book (I'm about 70% through it right now) was that it sure seems like Hoke really is the genuine article with respect to being a tremendous father figure for the players. The story about the unnamed player with the alchohol/drug issue, and how Hoke handled that-- shutting down a party at Hoke's own house following a game, kicking everyone out, so he and his wife and daughter could go to the player's house to intervene immediately, and then the description of that intervention-- made me think very, very highly of Hoke.
The guy just didn't win enough. In other areas, and specifically in caring about his players (truly, and not just in the same way every CFB coach cares about his players), he comes across very well. As for the Shane Morris concussion thing, well, there was a breakdown on a few levels, and Hoke bears ultimate responsibility for Shane going back in the game. However, on balance, I was really impressed with Hoke as the sort of father figure; it seems that wasn't just hype.

|13 weeks 1 day ago||I co sign the compression||
I co sign the compression issue and it should be something done easily via the WTKA sound board. If they use software to process the audio, then it's almost certainly a built-in feature (in the software) that is not being deployed. You can literally get a software compressor for free, so it's really a head-scratcher. It's a problem for me too as I listen at work, and it is impossible to find a volume you can just set the steam to-- I always have to adjust it many times throughout the broadcast because of the wide variance in sound amplitude.
