GREAT comeback from Betsa in that inning!
Opportunity to put this to bed now.

Here's my take on how this super regional will unfold:

We may be on to something here. If anyone wants to help start a rival amateur softball organization, I think the Chick That Knocks the Fuck Out of the Ball Award will carry us a long way.

Edit: This was supposed to be in reply to how Betsa stacks up against Haeger / Hawkins. Keep in mind that Haeger is also a good power hitter.

All hail Queen Romo I: Lady of the Seven Inningdoms, Sovereign of All Free Softballers, Conqueror of the Big Ten Conference, Slayer of the Spartans of the North, Tree Nuts of the South, Lions of the East, and Devils of the West.
This is great news! I have to say I'm shocked that Lauren Chamberlain didn't make the cut as I think she would've gotten the most votes had she made it. The award usually goes to pitchers, but I think Romo has a good shot. I know Cat Osterman voted for Romo last season and will almost certainly vote for Romo again, so we've got that going for us.
Edit: Looking over stats, Lauren Haeger is very impressive. Pitching stats are close with Hawkins (Haeger has a slightly better record and ERA, though Hawkins allows fewer hits), and Haeger is also good at the plate with 15 home runs this season (Hawkins has not had even a single at bat). Hawkins, though, has had a bigger reputation for longer, and people seem to rave about her more. Hawkins is also the one big superstar pitcher for Oregon, while Florida also has Ocasio and Gourley. I do think Hawkins is a better pure pitcher, but Haeger is obviously a more complete player. In the end, I hope they'll split the pitching votes down the middle and Romo will get the award.

Thanks for the preview! This post should also get bumped to the front page some time today.
One other thing I'd like to note about Georgia -- this doesn't affect the regional, it's just interesting to me -- is that they're one of the bigger transfer programs in the country. There's no rule in softball that transfers have to sit out a year, and schools like Georgia use this to their advantage. They usually have multiple players transfer out every year (sometimes as many as six), and are able to bring in bigger classes and poach promising players away from smaller programs. One player in the article linked above even says, "Georgia kind of drove me away", and the article notes that over 78 percent of the players to play at Georgia under the current coach have either left the program prior to their senior year or transferred in from another school.
Alex Hugo, their best player, is from Kansas and transferred in from KU.
The Emanuel sisters, likely their second and third best hitters, are from Texas and came by way of Texas Tech. Sydni played a season there and Cortni was a signee who had been committed to TTU for 3+ years.
They were also a victim of this themselves when Geri Ann Glasco, who is from Georgia, transferred to more highly regarded Oregon this season. (Oregon also got Hailey Decker, who led Nebraska in batting average last season.)
Anyway, it's an interesting gray area in softball and I'm glad Hutch doesn't get involved much in it.

Amazing game. Minny got their first two batters on in the 8th, then UA made a pitching change and retired three straight in the heart of Minny's lineup.
Now Groenewegen is pitching for Minnesota.
Edit: Annnnnd Arizona wins. Michigan is the only Big Ten team to reach the last sixteen. Emotional rollercoaster for Minnesota fans.

Two straight errors from Minny. Not looking good.
Edit: They get a huge double play, still a runner on third.

|4 days 4 hours ago||Minnesota just went into||
Minnesota just went into the last inning down two to Arizona and scored four runs to take the lead (three came on a homer).
This is after trailing into the last inning a few hours ago and hitting a grand slam walk off.
Facing elimination in both games. Just crazy.
|4 days 7 hours ago||Going into the last||
Going into the last half-inning down 2-1 to Arizona, Minnesota's Paige Palkovich hits a walk off grand slam!
Final game of that regional will be played later tonight.

They would have had a chance to get it under eight runs. It's only enforced after a full inning.

South Alabama just took the lead vs Auburn 3-2 in the 4th. Still bases loaded with one out. Edit: 4-2 USA going to the 5th.
Florida scored in top 8th to take 1-0 lead on FAU. FAU has chance to tie or win. Edit: they don't. Florida to the supers. Good job FAU. Shows that UF's lineup can be contained if you can hold them to only one or two hit by pitches.
Peter Sagan took the Tour of California by three seconds on time bonus on the final sprint.
|4 days 14 hours ago||Interesting results||
Interesting results today:
Georgia run ruled WKU 12 - 3 in five innings. WKU's ace Kramer pulled in the first inning after walking four batters -- ended up with 6 ER in 0.2 IP. They will play again at 2:30 PM with the winner playing the winner of Michigan - Pitt in the super regional.
James Madison eliminated by Fordham. NC State then beat Fordham to win that regional.
FAU currently tied with Florida 0-0 in the sixth inning. FAU's Amanda Wilson has allowed the Gators only one hit.

Blanco singles in Monty with two outs to tie it 1-1 in the bottom second.
|5 days 12 hours ago||Falk still in the lineup||
Falk still in the lineup today. Swearingen pinch hit for Falk yesterday and drove in the walk-off run, so I wasn't sure which way Hutch would go. I think this is the right move though -- Falk has been very good since becoming the go to DP.

This WKU - Georgia game is insane. I've heard about WKU's pitcher but this is my first time seeing her. She can shut it down.
Not to get ahead of ourselves, but I think I'd rather Michigan play Georgia.
|6 days 8 hours ago||I doubt the scholarship||
I doubt the scholarship situation would allow it anyway. If Sara stayed, that would be two scholarships leaving (I think Garfinkel is a walk-on), and at least four scholarships coming in in Sobczak, Peters, Canfield, and Crockett (I think Nemitz is walking on). Doesn't really work unless there's something I don't know.
